  1. The clash between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was full of surprises and depending upon which side you were supporting, these surprises were either exceedingly delightful or extremely dreadful for you. However, a day after the match, yet another surprise took place that left a sour taste in the mouths of the fans on both sides of the contest. The official website of the tournament released a statement in which they revealed that Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah and Kolkata Knight Riders’ Nitish Rana were being reprimanded by the league. Nitish Rana has been fined 10% of his match fees for breaching IPL's code of conduct. Jasprit Bumrah has been given a warning and no financial penalty on him. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) April 7, 2022 According to the statement, while Bumrah was simply left go off with a stern warning, the league went ahead and fined Rana 10% of his match fees. The problem here is that not a single soul, outside of Rana, Bumrah and the match referee knows what did the two cricketers do to get reprimanded. Even the people who watched the entire match ended up scratching their heads and scoured all over the internet to look for answers and failed to find anything concrete. What did they do? — Vivek Sheth (@vk_sheth) April 7, 2022They haven't told. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) April 7, 2022what did Rana do? — SportRadioAS (@SportRadioAS1) April 7, 2022Reason kya, lade hi hnge https://t.co/BD6v99JtCJ — JC (@JayC1718) April 7, 2022While most speculate that the two cricketers on both sides of the field might have gotten into some sort of altercation during their time away from the field after the match was over, a few are saying that Rana got frustrated by the way he was dismissed and ended up smashing the digital signages just behind the boundary line while walking back to the dressing room. However, there were absolutely no speculations around what Bumrah could have done to get into trouble with the league authorities. During the clash on Wednesday, Bumrah managed to deliver just three out of his four overs, especially after the Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins decided to end the match with four overs to spare and tied the record for the fastest half-century in the history of the tournament. On the other hand, Rana got to play a total of seven deliveries during which he even struck a six but mistimed his last shot which landed straight into the hands of Daniel Sams who was standing at deep mid-wicket to pick the easy catch. 2. The ongoing Test match between India and New Zealand has enthralled us all for the last three days, with players from both sides not giving each other an inch and pushing one another to the limit. Coming into the third day, the Kiwis were in a better position after their openers gave them a brilliant start adding in excess runs for the first wicket but the Indian spinners showed their class and bundled them for 296 runs to take a crucial 49-run lead. View this post on Instagram Apart from India’s terrific bowling performance, there were a couple of other things that made the headlines on Saturday. Ajinkya Rahane faced heat for not going for the review and leaving Tom Latham off the hook. After the replay showed all three reds, Ravichandran Ashwin was seen kicking the turf in frustration. The second big talking point on the day also involved India’s veteran off-spinner as he got into an argument with umpire Nitin Menon after he raised an objection over his follow-through. View this post on Instagram We all know Ashwin likes to try out new things while bowling and he did the same on Saturday but it led to a serious argument with the match official. The 35-year-old spin wizard opted for a unique follow-through going across the umpire and finishing on the other side of the stump. The umpire allegedly was not happy with Ashwin obstructing his as well as non-striker's vision with his follow-through. Ashwin argues with umpire Nitin Menon pic.twitter.com/R5qMxyeDi0 — Sunaina Gosh (@Sunainagosh7) November 27, 2021 However, Ashwin argued that the umpire had no right of warning him unless he was stepping on the danger area in his follow-through, which he clearly wasn’t. The argument between the two dragged on for at least the next three overs, with skipper Rahane also joining in to support his teammate. Not just that, even head coach Rahul Dravid wasn’t happy with the on-field umpire reprimanding his star bowler without any fault of his and he took the matter to match referee Javagal Srinath and presented his opinion on the matter. © BCCI The fact that Dravid, who is otherwise known for keeping a cool head, walked into Srintah’s cabin and raised his objection is enough to prove how serious the matter was. As per the rules, Ashwin wasn’t doing anything wrong and fans loved his animated reaction towards the umpire. Referring to Latham's plumb LBW call, some fans joked that Menon shouldn’t have raised the issue of obstruction because he wasn’t making the right calls anyway. Ashwin: "You are anyways not making any" #INDvNZ | #NZvIND #TeamIndia #Ashwin Anna pic.twitter.com/A4TqljIa3A — Shalini's Googly (@SeamBowling) November 27, 2021Ashwin is not the guy who do mistakes, he is the guy who keep on exploring rule book and ticking every box #Ashwin #INDvNZ #IndianCricketTeam pic.twitter.com/Urjjw1SmM1 — Martin Anthu (@Martin_Anthu23) November 27, 2021Nitin Menon Should be happy that the captain is Rahane and Not Virat.#viratkholi #Ashwin #Rahane — Divyam Poptani (@dvpoptani10) November 27, 2021When ashwin come to bowl, Le umpire Nitin Menon.#NZvIND @cricketaakash badiiya tha guru... pic.twitter.com/HlrATVzzaw — CON_MAN. (@CONMAN_917) November 27, 2021Nitin Menon has a point. For all the masterclass of spin craft Ashwin is putting on, he is completely blinding Menon on his follow through. I am not sure you can blame the ump for not giving LBWs in this case. He can't see it in real time. — IPL 2021 (@iplthebest) November 27, 2021 Menon should consider himself lucky that Rahane was leading the side in this match, and not Virat Kohli as he wouldn’t have dealt with the matter so calmly. However, Ashwin didn’t let the argument affect his bowling and he finished with three wickets and played a crucial role in India’s incredible comeback. After losing early wickets on Day 4, @ShreyasIyer15 and @ashwinravi99 steady ship for #TeamIndia with a fine 50-run partnership. 4. When it comes to Pakistan’s ability to produce thundering pacers who have the ability to take on the toughest batsmen in international cricket, Mohammad Amir’s name must remain in the top-tier, despite the obvious shortcomings and his recent fallout with the Pakistan Cricket Board. One of the biggest reasons why Amir was able to make a return to the international squad and deliver at a high level is the faith he has in himself. It is also his self-belief that leads to comments such as: "I find it easy to bowl to him Rohit Sharma. I feel that I can get him out both ways. He struggles against the in-swinger from a left-armer and as well as against the ball that goes away early on.” Mohammad Amir has had success against the Hitman in the shortest format of the game, having dismissed him twice within a span of seven deliveries. In the ODIs however, Amir has managed to scalp Sharma’s wicket just once. However, for multiple reasons, Amir’s comments did not sit well with Pakistan’s googly expert Danish Kaneria who hopped on his YouTube channel to give his junior an earful. “Mohammad Amir, you want to remain in headlines, no doubt. You have been a wonderful bowler for Pakistan. When you debuted, you made quite a name for yourself. You used to make the ball swing both ways with the new ball. You’ve troubled many batsmen and there’s nothing to take away from it. You troubled India in the Champions Trophy final and gave their batsmen a tough time in the Asia Cup as well,” Kaneria said before showing his protest. Kaneria went on to say, “But such statements are made when players are about to face each other in an upcoming or an ongoing series. Neither are we going to have an India vs Pakistan series, nor are you going to bowl to Rohit Sharma. You’ve said something out of the blue, similar to what Abdul Razzaq had said about Jasprit Bumrah. So, it is fine if you want to be in the limelight by making such statements. I understand that a bowler likes to say such things, express himself by saying stuff like ‘he’s my bunny, I like to get him out’.” “Rohit Sharma is a player who has scored so many double-centuries, and on top of that, he is a run-machine. There is hardly a player who plays spinners and fast bowlers better than him. And as far as you are concerned, you no longer have that pace or swing, because of which you couldn’t perform for the last two years and were axed from the team. So you come back, perform and when he is against you, and then make such statements. It will make for an exciting battle,” Kaneria added. View the full article

  8. A portion of the park near Dar?s Lahore residence had been uprooted to build a road which leads directly to his house. However, the road is said to be prohibited for public use. Photo: file LAHORE: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar reprimanded on Thursday the Lahore Development Authority Director General Zahid Akhtar Zaman for allowing a portion of a park to be uprooted to build a road near the house of former finance minister Ishaq Dar. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court Lahore Registry, headed by Chief Justice Nisar, had summoned the LDA official after taking suo motu notice of the road a day before. A portion of the park near Dar?s Lahore residence had been uprooted to build a road which leads directly to his house. However, the road is said to be prohibited for public use. While referring to DG Zaman, the CJP questioned with whose authority LDA allow the road to be built over the park area? ?Ishaq Dar had requested to make the road outside his house wider for parking,? replied DG Zaman. The CJP then asked if the former finance minister had written an official request to the authority, to which the DG replied: ?Dar had directed me to make the road over the phone.? The response irked Chief Justice Nisar, who remarked that the official should also be investigated as per the law of National Accountability Bureau. ?What kind of officer are you? Just on one phone call by a minister, you uprooted a park? You will have to pay the price. I won't let favouritism work here. You should be investigated as per NAB law.? The DG then apologised unconditionally before the court, but the CJP remarked: ?The time for apologies as passed.? The CJP then ordered DG Zaman to detail how the park was built in a written statement and submit it to the court. ?Bring all the records as well as your oath.? On Wednesday, Chief Justice Nisar had taken the suo motu notice of a portion of a park being uprooted to build a road leading to Ishaq Dar?s residence. Notices were issued to DG LDA, deputy commissioner Lahore and the Punjab government. The CJP had asked the authorities as per what law the park had been uprooted to build the road.
