The situation in Ukraine is grim, it’s the 14th day into war as Russia continues to invade Ukraine. People are scrambling to get out of the country and those who aren’t, are picking up arms to support their country and fight for their homeland. At this time, sitting here, not much is in our hands. However, what is, is evacuating students and people who are stuck in Ukraine. And while ideally, the focus is on evacuating Indians, in times of crisis like this, nationality doesn’t matter, for the Indian embassy helped evacuate Pakistanis stuck in Ukraine, just the same. © Twitter/ANI Reminding us of Tiger Zinda Hai, where both Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif work together to rescue not just Indians but also Pakistani, a video of a Pakistani student Asma Shafique has gone viral, where she thanks the Indian embassy in Kyiv, to help her escape to the western part of Ukraine, from where she can further leave the country, to be finally reunited with her family. #WATCH | Pakistan's Asma Shafique thanks the Indian embassy in Kyiv and Prime Minister Modi for evacuating her. She will be reunited with her family soon:Sources pic.twitter.com/9hiBWGKvNp — ANI (@ANI) March 9, 2022 The ANI video shows her dressed in a hijab, thanking the embassy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their efforts and mentions how none of this would have been made possible, had it not been for the Indian embassy. It is heartening to see that at times like these, when tragedy and terror are striking left, right and Center, our country is not backing down in offering support in ways that it can. The thing that breaks my heart is how thankless and rude was our students' behavior towards our own government. I don't know why they were expecting a 5-star treatment in such vulnerable conditions where people where struggling to save their lives. This is saddening. — Twinkiee (@Urbandesii_) March 9, 2022Our Indian students don't have any gratitude for the country or the government for saving their lives. #studentsinukraine — #SachKaSamna (@yedeshhemera) March 9, 2022While Pakistani students thanking efforts of Indian abbacy and PM. One person commented, “The thing that breaks my heart is how thankless and rude was our students' behavior towards our own government. I don't know why they were expecting a 5-star treatment in such vulnerable conditions where people where struggling to save their lives. This is saddening.” A gesture beyond borders. Charu Sharma, a veteran TV presenter and cricket pundit, was called on Saturday to oversee the IPL 2022 major player auctions. Hugh Edmeades, the auctioneer, fell, forcing the midway change. The terrible situation occurred during the bidding process for Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. BREAKING #IPLMegaAuction2022 Britain's Hugh Edmeades faints out suddenly during live IPL Auction. Hope he is fine . pic.twitter.com/8kiLl6ACbW — arun sharma (@arunsharma0603) February 12, 2022 The attendees in the auction room were in a state of complete disbelief when Edmeades collapsed on the floor. He was taken to the hospital right afterwards and was said to be doing OK. It was agreed to rest the Englishman and get Sharma aboard after the lunch break as a preventive measure. Watching the kind of professionalism with which Sharma managed the first day of the event and guided the flow of the auction without any preparation ahead of the event, fans who were watching the show on television or online were extremely impressed with him. Here’s how some of the viewers of the auction reacted to his brilliance: Appreciation Tweet for Charu Sharma ji pic.twitter.com/rqze3CnKSY — Ashish/ Akiba stan (@ashishayush1177) February 12, 2022And a shoutout to my old friend Charu Sharma for filling in admirably — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) February 12, 2022Nice to see the applause for Charu Sharma, he did a great job. — Johns. Charu Sharma, the Director of the Pro Kabaddi League, is a well-known name in the sphere of sports commentary and television presentation. He has hosted award presentations and business events in addition to being a quizmaster on various television series. He rose to prominence during the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup when he teamed up with veteran actress Mandira Bedi to conduct the pre-, mid-, and post-match debates. Sharma has previously worked in the IPL as an administrator. He was named CEO of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament's debut season in 2008. According to reports, he was forced to resign due to the team's poor performance. Sharma was said to have quit on his own at the time, but he later denied this, claiming that he was fired by then-team owner Vijay Mallya. The league later shared an update on the health situation of the original auctioneer Edmeades and clarified the reason why he suddenly fell on the floor. According to a post from the official Twitter handle of the IPL, the Englishman had a sudden dip in his blood pressure causing him to collapse. He was quickly looked after and was brought back to stability within a couple of hours. View the full article

Amidst the desperate evacuation of citizens and diplomats due to the shockingly rapid collapse of the Afghanistan government, we saw a video of the U.S. Air Force C-17A cargo jet taking off from the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. While the shocking videos showed a dire image of the situation on the ground, we didn’t really know what was happening on the plane, until now. © Twitter/CNN According to a report by The Drive, the Air Traffic Controller could not believe what he was hearing from ‘Reach’ RCH871 on the airwaves after its swift departure from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. “Ok, how many people are on your jet? 800 people on your jet? Holy cow… Good job getting off the ground!” You can hear the controller’s voice from the recording below as he was directing the plane from Delaware-based 436th Airlift Wing. View the full article

The relentless effort of the Indian government to bring back the Indian citizens from abroad continues to be in full swing. Being considered one of the largest expatriation exercises run by any country, India has been at the forefront of the rescue mission of thousands of Indians stranded across different countries amid the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus. So far, India has managed to bring back 6037 stranded citizens from 12 foreign countries in the last five days under the Vande Bharat Mission, according to reports. Thatâs a phenomenal feat, considering the testing time all of us are collectively going through. © IndiainChicago Twitter However, the passengers on these special repatriation flights run by the national carrier have to pay their own fares and register with Indian high commissions or embassies or on specified government websites before they are picked up for the return journey home. Following the strict COVID-19 rules, all the returnees have to go through mandatory screening and even testing at some locations before they are cleared for the flights. They also have to go through mandatory quarantine at their own cost in facilities designated by the government upon their return. View the full article

India's following protocol quite swiftly, with regard to the onset of coronavirus in China and some parts of the world, including India. The first Air India flight that left for China brought back 324 Indian nationals from coronavirus-hit Wuhan on February 1, 2020 at 7:30 in the morning. 220 citizens were sent to the Army quarantine facility in Manesar and the rest 104 were sent to ITBP facility at Chawla camp. © Twitter A second flight took off for China to bring back more Indian nationals stranded there, on Sunday, February 2. 323 Indians were brought back and along with them came 7 nationals from the island of Maldives. We're not sure how the protocol was handled but the flight came back with 7 citizens from the tiny island, and the Maldives Foreign Minister, Abdulla Rashid, took to Twitter to express his gratitude to India and the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The gesture certainly didn't go unnoticed. The Maldives Prime Minister said that the seven Maldivian nationals will be housed in Delhi for a few days before they make their way home. His tweet said the following: â7 Maldivians in #Wuhan are on their way to Delhi on a special #AirIndia flight. Upon arrival they will be housed in Delhi for a period of quarantine. Indian citizens, on the other hand, are urging the government to help bring back the stranded Pakistanis on a humanitarian level. With protests going on throughout the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the entire country divided over it, here's a heartwarming story of an Indian helping another Indian just for the sake of humanity that perfectly shows the spirit of the country. In Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district, Ajay Kumar, a policeman, was surrounded by a violent mob and was getting beaten, but was rescued before any injuries turned fatal. Hajji Qadir, a local resident of the area, became his saviour and rescued him from the mob. © ANI He didn't stop there, though. He even took Ajay Kumar back to his home before taking him to the police station. Talking about the incident and the injuries he sustained on his hand, the cop said, "He came like a God. If he hadn't come, they would have killed me." He added, "Aise log bahut kam milte hain, sahab." It's kind of bittersweet hearing that last line since everyone should be like this, helping another person in need, but it's honestly so rare. Ajay Kumar further added, "He gave me water and his clothes and assured I will be safe. He took me to the police station later." © ANI In an interview, Hajji Qadir said, "I was told a policeman has been surrounded by the mob. He was severely injured, I assured him that I will save him. I didn't know his name at the time, what I did was for humanity." See, this is how it's supposed to be, helping people just for the sake of helping them, just for humanity. With the death toll on a constant rise, thousands of houses destroyed, lakhs of people left homeless and seeking shelter in relief camps and scores missing; the situation in the wake of the deadly Kerala floods is only turning nightmarish with each passing day. Reuters Amid this crisis, we can't stop ourselves from saluting the Indian Navy, the NDRF and the local police for tirelessly working day and night to rescue the people stuck in deep waters. Thanks to the regular updates by the Indian Navy, we can witness the bravery and the courage with which their personnel are carrying out the rescue missions, and the risks they are taking to ensure people's safety. #OpMadad #KeralaFloods2018 #KeralaFloodRelief Some snapshots of Rescue efforts 1/n pic.twitter.com/TzH0hcag7b — SpokespersonNavy (@indiannavy) August 16, 2018 A few days ago, we saw how Naval rescue chopper pilot Cdr Vijay Varma and his men rescued a pregnant woman (whose water bag broke) from the rooftop of her house near Aluva. Nowadays, it's extremely rare to see a person going beyond the call of duty and doing something only for the benefit of others. But Inspector Rekha Mishra is not only an exemplary cop, she is also the reason behind more than 900 kids reconciling with their families in one year © Twitter/PIB Rekha is a Sub-Inspector belonging to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway. She joined the force in 2014 but it was in 2016 when she came into the limelight when she undertook the responsibility of tracing back the parents of three young girls who had fled to Mumbai from Chennai. On spotting the girls getting off a train without adult supervision, she realised that she needs to confront them as to why they were alone. However, when she didn't get any answers from them, she took the help of a translator and discovered that they had run away to Mumbai with the dreams of a glamorous life. That was enough for Rekha to set out on a journey to help runaway and lost kids. © Twitter Her job enables her to spot such kids easily as most of them get off at the last stop of the railway stations. She rescued more than 950 children in 2017 alone, out of which 92 were girls. Since most of these kids belong to the age group of 8-16, she makes sure that sensitivity is a priority when dealing with them. She has also repeatedly taken the help of social media in order to speed up the process. It's difficult to imagine how exhausting- both physically and emotionally, this whole process really is. Dealing with children, especially in cases where there is a language barrier, is definitely not an easy feat. But by now, Rekha has become accustomed to it and has gained massive respect for her work. Meet the guardian angel of lost children.
