It is said that if there are two things our country is obsessed with then it is Cinema and Cricket. Over the years, the Hindi film industry has often tried to get a cricket-based film right on celluloid but most of the time, the result has been underwhelming. One can count the number of successful cricket-based films in India - Lagaan, Iqbal and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. Well, now add one more to the list - 83. Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 is based on the real story of the Indian Cricket Team’s 1983 World Cup win in England. While India is at the top of its game in recent years in the gentlemen’s game but there was a time when they were considered as minnows. However, in 1983, Kapil’s Devils did the unthinkable and as they say, the rest is history. © Reliance Entertainment 83 is a difficult film to execute. To recreate that era, revisit those players, their mannerisms, their attitude, the vibe of that India, and most importantly make it all entertaining, director Kabir Khan achieves it all with ease. Most of the things we see in the movie are well documented, out in the open for the public to consume, but the movie takes us deep into the psyche of the underdog team that nobody believed in. We get to see the humans behind the legends of today. The film not only showcases the underdog story but also how this win united the nation and how it affected the politics of that time. Three major things that work in the film's favour are Kabir Khan’s deft direction, screenplay, and the performance of each and every cast member. In fact, the star cast is the major contributing factor in the film's success. © Reliance Entertainment Props to casting director Mukesh Chhabra for getting the casting right. Ranveer Singh (Kapil Dev), Saqib Saleem (Mohinder Amarnath), Tahir Raj Bhasin (Sunil Gavaskar), Jiiva (Krishnamachari Srikanth), Ammy Virk (Balwinder Singh Sandhu), Harrdy Sandhu (Madan Lal), Jatin Sarna (Yashpal Sharma), Chirag Patil (Sandeep Patil), Dinker Sharma (Kirti Azad), Nishat Dahiya (Roger Binny), Sahil Khattar (Syed Kirmani), Adinath Kothare (Dilip Vengsarkar), Dhairya Karwa (Ravi Shastri), R Badree (Sunil Valson) and Pankaj Tripathi (PR Man Singh) all of them did a splendid job. Considering Ranveer is the major movie star here, there was not one moment where he overshadowed the others. He played a character and was simply outstanding in it. Definitely one of his best performances. While every other cast member gets their moment under the sun, it is Tamil star Jiiva who makes the most of his character. Watch out for his performance during the High Commission meeting scene. Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta and other actors have provided able support. © Reliance Entertainment On the downside, the movie does feel a bit long and could’ve been trimmed by at least 10-15 minutes. Also, the matches while exciting to watch often missed the thrill factor. Overall, 83 is a roller coaster ride of emotions through and through. You will find yourself cheering, laughing and shedding tears, often all at once. Keep those tissues handy and hop on this ride. View the full article

Meet the latest con man on the web – televisions’ favourite actor Ravii Dubey. After a successful run as the ideal husband and son-in-law, he is giving up his title to turn into one of the most entertaining and honourable crooks on the web. We’ve all heard stories of conmen trying to sell the iconic Taj Mahal, but here we have Matsya Thada (Ravii Dubey), a conman who prefers to work his way out of different kaands using aptitude, intelligence, and charm. MX Player’s new series Matsya Kaand is an entertaining potboiler with notorious heists of Matsya, as he pulls off the most unique and biggest cons across the country. And guess what? He always manages to slip past the cops as he moves from one job to the next. But not for long! Fate throws him a new curveball when ACP Tejraj Singh (Ravi Kishan) is handed over Matsya’s case. What Matsya didn’t anticipate is that this ruthless and cunning cop, who doesn’t play by the book would do anything to see him behind bars. Directed by Ajay Bhuyan, Matsya Kaand is an intense cat and mouse chase, and a long con that we just might fall for! Talking about his new role as a conman, Ravii believes that “this role truly challenged me as an actor.” Actor Ravi Kishan on the other hand is overjoyed to be a part of this show. “I’ve always enjoyed watching a good con-thriller and this is a genre that is lesser explored in the web series ecosystem so I’m glad to be a part of something fresh on OTT.” Spread over 11 episodes, Matsya Kaand has been shot across Delhi, Meerut, Sambhar, and Jaipur. Despite all the great work on the web, Matsya Kaand is a unique web series in a thriller-con genre to be produced on an Indian OTT. And by the looks of it, a promising one! The series also boasts of an ensemble cast with actors Piyush Mishra, Zoya Afroz, Madhur Mittal, Rajesh Sharma, and Naved Aslam amongst others in key roles. Action, comedy, thriller, and glamour – the Matysa Kaand trailer has it all! Stream all episodes of this intriguing con thriller starting 18th November, for FREE exclusively on MX Player.
