  1. Conor Mcgregor is a renowned personality in the MMA arena. His much-hyped fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2017 earned him respect all around the world. Though he is a UFC fighter and boxing isn't his major fighting style, he still took on Mayweather and the fight was one of the most awaited and one of the most-watched fights of the decade. © Reuters Conor's physique was also a talking point at the time of that event. In fact, Conor is always in the headlines for his physique before every UFC tournament. He fights in different weight categories and still manages to look lean in every season. Today, we're going to discuss how you can also build an MMA physique like Conor Mcgregor's: Conor Is Not Bulky Like A Bodybuilder You can't call Conor's physique as a bodybuilding marvel. He doesn't have bulky chest or arms like a competitive bodybuilder. Being a martial artist and a UFC fighter, Conor has to be agile, fast and flexible throughout the year to be ready for fights. Thus, he is lean and has decent muscle mass which looks good on him and at his body weight. If your target is to achieve a physique like him, it can be achieved with a disciplined diet and training regime over time. Focus On Building Lean Muscle Mass If you look at Conor's physique carefully, he is not skinny. He is lean and has muscle mass. So, the first thing that you need to do to look at him is to build lean muscle mass. If you're a guy who is skinny, first you'll have to gain muscles. To gain muscles, you will have to go on a calory surplus diet and focus on resistance training at least 4-5 times in the week. Diet should be a little high on carbs and protein with moderate fats. Carbs will help in your training and high protein in your diet will help you recover from your workouts and build muscle mass. On the other hand, if you're a guy who already has decent muscle mass but is bulky, you will have to get lean to look anything like Conor. Conor's body looks chiselled and ripped as his body fat percentage is really low. So, even if you have decent muscle mass but your body fat percentage is high, you will not look lean and ripped. To get ripped, you will have to follow a calorie deficit diet and increase your calorie expenditure over time. This will help you to get lean and your muscles will look more defined like Conor's. © Reuters Include HIIT & MMA Training Conor's workout routine includes HIIT and MMA workouts on a regular basis. This is how he performs explosive moves during his fights. If your target is not just to look like him but also to perform like him, you need to include martial arts as well as HIIT training in your training regime. If you are going to add weight training, schedule your training in such a way that on the days you are training heavy you're not practising MMA. MMA training in itself is demanding and even a few rounds of sparring can drain you out. A good option would be to take martial arts and weight training on alternate days. 2. With the rise in the popular concept of looking ripped, the demand for fitness professionals has also increased ten folds. This has created a unique problem where every Tom, Dick and Harry who has been to the gym for 6 months and stuck needles in his veins to look good, wants to portray himself as a fitness professional to earn a quick buck. A particular profession in the fitness industry that has seen a rise in pretenders masquerading as professionals is personal training. This makes it very difficult for a novice to choose a good personal trainer. © Unsplash There is a common misconception about what makes a good personal trainer: The more ripped the trainer, the more knowledge they possess! It's quite common for people to end up believing that the best-looking people on the gym floor or social media are the most knowledgeable/qualified when it comes to training and nutrition. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the most ripped person can be the most knowledgeable one too, but in most cases, they're not. Think about it, was Ramakant Achrakar a better batsman than Sachin Tendulkar? But it is a well-established fact that he was instrumental in the development of arguably the best batsman ever. © ICC Many players who are very good at their game turn out to be really bad when it comes to coaching and some who might not even play, turn out to be really good coaches, Jose Mourinho being the prime example here. Good coaches are good because they understand the art and science of coaching and communicate in a way that their students/athletes can use to their benefit. The same thing can be said for trainers and coaches. Another aspect to consider here is that the fittest and leanest people are not fit and lean because they have the most knowledge and know how when it comes to fitness and nutrition. © Unsplash They are that way because they live, breathe, eat and shit bodybuilding and fitness. They have created, designed and organised their lives around going to the gym, meal prepping and rest and recovery. So, if you are looking for inspiration and motivation, they are the best resources you can go to but if you looking to fit fitness into your lifestyle and not fit your lifestyle around fitness, they are not what you should be looking for, as they're often not so great to rely on for the intellectual aspects of training. For example, a personal trainer who has put in time and effort to learn the principles of biomechanics, physiology and has gone through the research on individualizing your training program according to your lifestyle, needs and preferences, will always have an upper hand on someone who has just been to the gym and built his own physique. Always consider that someone who spends most of their time in the gym training or cooking for themselves will always have less time to spend on learning the technical and tactical aspects of programming necessary to make that person qualified to provide reliable advice and information to other people. © Unsplash Long story short, these are the qualities that you should be looking for the next time you look for a personal trainer: 1. Check whether the trainer has been certified from a reputed institution or not. 2. Check whether the trainer assesses you and then plans your training schedule or he plans to directly put you on a cookie cutter program. 3. Check the level of professionalism your trainer brings to the table in the beginning and look for qualities such as punctuality, patience and communication skills. 3. In what was considered to be one of the better WrestleManias of the decade, the 35th anniversary of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) consisted of the Executive Vice President of the company, Triple H squaring up against the Guardians of the Galaxy star and former WWE employee Dave Bautista in a 'No Holds Barred' match. According to the narrative behind the rivalry, the two titans of the business wanted to bring an end to 10-years worth of hate, jealousy, animosity and loathing with a bang and they found just the time and place to finally do it at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The brawl between the two former members of 'Evolution' turned ugly in a blink of an eye when Batista tossed Hunter over the announcers' table right in front of his friend Shawn Michaels post which 'The Game' attacked 'The Animal' with a giant iron chain. Yes, they were not kidding around when they said 'No Holds Barred'. The line between the Attitude Era and the PG-13 era soon began to wear very thin as HHH put his creative mind to use. While choking a 50-year-old Batista with a chair, Hunter used a pair of pliers to get a proper hold of his opponent's nose ring and ripped it off with all his strength in front of a live audience. There's nothing @TripleH won't do to save his career... and that includes RIPPING OUT @DaveBautista's nose ring!! #WrestleMania #NoHoldsBarred pic.twitter.com/0lyzWVulHF — WWE (@WWE) April 8, 2019 With a loud “OH, SNAP!” from the audience, Trips rolled out of an agonised Batista, taking his time to bask in the glory of his new trophy, Batista's nose ring. While the match ended in Hunter's favour with some additional help by the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, the world could not get over the horror of Hunter's joy with the sadistic move: pic.twitter.com/bHM6idXXcj — Kevin Thang (@Skip2MyJays) April 8, 2019 pic.twitter.com/bHM6idXXcj — Kevin Thang (@Skip2MyJays) April 8, 2019 pic.twitter.com/lh27pCNPFQ — David ð¬ð§ (@DavidAtkins42) April 8, 2019 pic.twitter.com/36Bc8OLEVh — Shalawn Dillon (@DillonShalawn) April 8, 2019 That made me cringe — Bishop (@HEELBish) April 8, 2019
  4. Abhay Deol has been MIA for a while. However, that is what sets him apart from everyone else in Bollywood, we think. There's this inexplicably charming nonchalance about everything he does - right from not making an effort to get along with the maddening B'town crowd, to not being hesitant in the least while speaking up about important issues like the obsession with fair skin. © © Instagram/Abhaydeol He is never in the limelight but sneakily went through an amazing transformation that should most certainly bring him under it. © Instagram/Abhaydeol © Instagram/Abhaydeol He has been hitting the gym a lot, and it clearly is working wonders. 7. If there's one superhero that embodies the modern day quintessential superhero, it has to be Deadpool. A childish sense of humour, cleverness and no fear of anyone, Deadpool is easily among the most beloved superheroes, although he likes to call himself a mercenary. Ryan Reynolds has been the perfect person to play the part as he embodies the quirky characteristics of Deadpool. The perfect portrayal of the role aside, what's equally impressive is the physique that Ryan has built for the part. A lean, muscular and an athletic physique! This is something every guy wishes to achieve. A physique that does not make them look like mass monsters, and at the same time, have girls drooling over them once they take the shirt off. Here's what you must do to try and build a lean muscular physique like Deadpool: 1. Drop Your Body Fat © YouTube One major mistake that most guys do and even desi gym trainers wrongly preach is, starting to work on bulking no matter what your body composition is. Some idiots even go to the extent of saying that bulk first, as it is easier to cut later. No, it is not. A Couple Of Things Here: a. At a higher body fat, you will gain more fat: The sweet spot to work on a lean bulk is between 8 to 15% body fat. If you are above this, there is a good chance, you will gain more body fat. b. Fat cells do not die off: As you become fatter the number of fat cells in your body will increase. More fat cells mean it is comparatively easier for you to gain body fat or weight in future. So, always do a cut first until you are around 8-10%. If you end up looking skinny, that is okay. It is temporary. 2. Start Eating In A Small Caloric Surplus Once you are at lower body fat, start eating more calories than your maintenance calories to increase your weight. And yes, you have to do this very conservatively. It is not a contest of getting as fat as possible in the shortest amount of time. Aim to gain no more than 1 to 1.5 kilo per month. Which means a surplus of around 200 kcals per day! Ensure you are consuming at least 1.8 grams of protein per kilo of body weight. 3. Do More Of Compound Movements Lift multi-joint movements so that you can get stronger and pack more muscle. Do not waste all your time in the gym doing 100 sets of bicep curls. The more compound movements you pick, the more muscles you work on, increasing the opportunity to grow muscle. And do not do the conventional one body part a day training. Research shows that even when doing the same number of weekly sets, those who trained one muscle 2x per week grew more muscle. Do not be a knob. © Imgur 4. Do This Ab Circuit 3x A Week The one thing that stands out in Ryan's physique in 'Deadpool' is his abs. As abs are a smaller muscle group, they recover faster meaning you can train them more frequently. The primary function of your abs is spinal flexion. The two basic movements which do it is ab crunches and leg raises. Do 3-4 supersets of 12-15 reps of these exercises every alternate day to build muscle and have your abs popping. 8. If you're a '90s kid, it's extremely likely that you grew up with Shaan's songs. From 'Tanha hil' to 'Dus bahaane', his songs have always struck a chord with the youngsters of the nation, and he was a household name. 9. I started my fitness journey nearly 3 years ago. As a rookie, I had no idea how much of a role diet played in the making of an impressive physique. I used to work out before as well but could never be where I stand today. At around 72 kilos, I first stepped into the gym. Through months, I met a number of guys suggesting different diets. Right form Keto to low carbohydrate, I was suggested almost every diet by the gym bros. After reading a lot about Keto, I got on the diet. 8 months down the keto route, I did lose weight but got nowhere close to the physique I wanted. Since Internet was my only source of knowledge, I stumbled upon macros and calories. As my interest grew, I started exploring more and more. I never missed my workouts and ate grilled chicken and salads dreaming about a ripped body. Of course, I was ill-informed and hence my socializing was on the lower side. The Keto Stupidity Being on Keto was one of the stupidest things I have ever done dieting wise. As one of the harshest diets, keto will rob you off a lot of liberty to live and socialize. You simply can't just avoid carbohydrates. You can't keep on eating chicken, eggs and cheese for months on end. Then I was told that it was the all about calories that mattered for fat loss, not specific types of foods. This changed everything for me. While people told me to get on steroids, quit eating salt and what not, I was mentally sold on counting my calories. After Learning The Concept Of Calorie Counting Presently, I weigh and count all the food I eat in a day. It's a very regular thing. There are plenty of carbs in my diet and I almost eat whatever I like in moderation. This has made life extremely easy for me. The diet fits right into my schedule and following it doesn't beat my mental peace. The formula is simple- eat more calories while bulking and eat lesser calories while cutting. You can read this to know how to go about counting calories. While I was struggling to find that ONE perfect diet, it was Pratik Thakkar from GetSetGo Fitness who taught me the above mentioned principle for effective fat loss. It's The Knowledge And Consistency People usually think that excessive exercise and supplements are what you need for building a good physique. The truth is exactly opposite to that. What you need is the right information about effective fat loss from people who know what they are saying and top that up with consistent effort in the gym and in the kitchen. What you will have is a recipe for successfully building a great body. Won't Stop! Fitness is now an integral part of my life. I have worked hard and now I am getting good at working smartly around my nutrition too. A well-built physique says a lot about a person and I suggest everyone to hire a good coach since that's an investment, not an expense.
  10. In 'MXP Body Love', we ask people with amazing bodies the key questions about how to achieve, maintain, and basically take care of our bodies in the best way possible, while seeking their guidance on the same. While we want to know hacks on seemingly superficial topics such as how to look good without clothes, we also want to delve deep and discuss bigger issues such as body positivity, acceptance, how to deal with insecurities, and also how to move past difficulties and strive to reach the best version of oneself. Our 'Body Love' expert here is actor Kunal Kapoor. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 1. One food item you should never, ever eat? I believe one should consciously avoid eating fried food. I grew up eating fried food, and the college I went to had the best Pav-Vada. I, however, have given it up completely, and haven't indulged in it since the past two years or so. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 2. The one body part you should never ignore when it comes to workout? Legs. Unfortunately, in our country, it's always somehow about 'looking fit' than actually being fit. It's always about looking muscular and filling up the T-shirts. So people don't really work on their legs - which is absolutely unhealthy, not to mention unaesthetic. Apart from legs, glutes are also important when it comes to overall fitness, not only to look hot in a pair of jeans, but to maintain a healthy core as well. Also, we should also train the smaller muscles in our body regularly, that often gets ignored, thereby causing muscular imbalances and injuries. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 3. Natural fuzz vs. waxed/trimmed body hair? I'm absolutely comfortable with the natural fuzz, but I'm open to trimming or waxing if a role demands it. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 4. Grooming essentials - what are the products you can't do without? A good face wash, a good perfume (I have a huge collection of perfumes), and a nail-cutter. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 5. Shaving Vs. trimming? Shaving seems to be a lot of work. Trimming is far easier. Anyway I like my stubble, so trimming it is. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 6. Best lighting for clicking shirtless pictures? Till this point, honestly, I never thought about it. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 7. Did you ever face any insecurity about your own body? What did you do to deal with it? I did, of course. Even though the popular belief runs that only overweight people get body shamed, it's not true. I was skinny as a kid, was always conscious of it. I tried to deal with it by taking up physically demanding stuff, in order to prove myself in front of other kids. I discovered the magic of exercising and workouts when I was about 16, and have never looked back since. I started doing martial arts, push-ups, pull-ups, and also started going to the gym. Even though I did it mainly to just look good at that point in time, it proved to be life-changing. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 8. What is the toughest challenge according to you, when it comes to obtaining and maintaining a body in its peak shape? I have a terrible sweet tooth. I can finish off mithhai boxes or bars of chocolates in minutes. Even though I control it well now-a-days, it's still challenging for me. Also, I'm an overall foodie who comes from a family where everything is cooked in desi ghee and food is rich and delicious overall. Ghee is good for you, btw, provided you limit the consumption in case you're trying to build an aesthetically appealing physique. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 9. Not everyone is content with the way their body looks. How do you suggest one should deal with it? I think the only way to deal with that is to look at it with a different approach. One should of course try to look good, but that should never be the aim with which they should plan their workouts. The goal should be to always be stronger than what you were yesterday. That way, you remain consistent, and automatically gain a better physique. I have seen really strong looking, muscular people who can't even touch their toes. What's the point of such shallow satisfaction in terms of how your body looks if it's not strong and flexible enough? Also, you should have fun while working out. Remember how we used to do somersaults and cartwheels effortlessly as children, and can't seem to do it any more when we are adults? Perhaps that's just because we forget to have fun once we grow up. © Instagram/kunalkkapoor 10. The lines are constantly thinning, when it comes to what is beautiful and what is not. Body positivity is slowly catching up, and the 'accepted standards' of beauty and fitness are getting questioned. What are your views about it? One should stop following trends, because they are just that - trends, and they will keep changing. What a body should look like will keep changing, and you can't keep up with that. What one needs to look at is their overall well-being. By that, I don't mean only physical well-being, but their mental and emotional well-being as well, and there can be multiple ways to achieve that. For example, I do an hour of meditation every morning, and that seems to help me out a lot in terms of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. So all one needs to focus on is what they feel about their own physique, and their own health, rather than focusing on what the world thinks about it.
  11. At every gym, you will find numerous people performing the famous 'ab crunch' exercise. Most people do it for burning their belly fat, something which cannot be achieved by merely doing 'ab crunches' (this a topic for another article, but if you are smart you'd already know this). The problem with crunches is that majority of people, even the well-trained athletes fail to harness its full potential. Your legs and arms are only as strong as your core. An underdeveloped core is a weak support for hard-working limbs. © Pinterest The core muscles act as shock absorbers for jumps, rebounds, or plyometric exercises; stabilize the body; and represent a link, or transmitter, between the legs and arms. Also, the best protection against common lower back injuries is a strong back (by doing barbell rows, deadlifts back extensions) and well-developed abdominal muscles. The ab crunch is a powerful exercise to strengthen the rectus abdominis. Here Are Are Alterations To This Movement To Make It More Effective 1) Rest your calves on a bench The rectus abdominis runs vertically and pulls the trunk forward when the legs are fixed, as in ab crunches. To isolate the abdominal muscles, an exercise is required that bends the spine but not the hips. Exercises that flex the hips are performed by the iliopsoas (a powerful hip flexor) and to a lesser extent by the abdominals. Thus, the best ab crunch position is lying on the back with the calves resting on a chair or bench. This position isolates the abdominals since the hips are already bent. © Pinterest 2) Reduce The Range Of Motion In exercise, more science is not always optimal. As in the case of ab crunches, a full range of motion results in reduced stimulation of the abdominis muscles as beyond a certain range, people begin to use their lower back. Note that a crunch is not a full sit up. It is meant to stimulate the rectus abdominis only. Limiting the range of motion is makes the exercise the best way to build strength and endurance in that specific muscle group. Consider moving only 5-7 inch off the floor and perform the eccentric and concentric with a very slow tempo ( 3 seconds up, 4 seconds down) this enhances the recruitment of ab muscles and also increases the time under tension. These two changes will make your ab training slightly harder but a lot more effective. 14. Akshay Kumar has always been 'cool'. No, we're not only referring to his chilled out persona or his down to earth yet super charismatic demeanour - we're talking about him in terms of his style game. Right from embracing his toned physique (along with his body hair, mind it) back in the 80s and 90s when it was not even 'in', to wearing unusual pieces such as fluoro shirts or dungarees, 'Mr. Khiladi' has always managed to impress us, not to mention the ladies. Not a thing has changed even now, at the age of 50, we must say. He just proved it by stepping out in a pair of pants that are the coolest pair we have seen in a long time. Take a look. © Viral Bhayani Time and time again, AK has publicly maintained his affinity towards camo, with his outfits. Taking this forward, he wore a pair of camo pants that stand out in terms of their fit, and the fact that they are ripped at his knees, in a way that mirrors his own badassery. © Viral Bhayani Don't you just love the pair? Not only is it super fashionable, it is super versatile as well. He has sagaciously paired it with a smart black tee, which we think is the perfect accompaniment with the awesomeness beneath. © Viral Bhayani When it comes to his footwear, staying true to his affinity towards comfort, but not neglecting fashion forwardness, he chose to wear a pair of dope AF beige Asics with white detailing. We love the pair! © Viral Bhayani All we can say is that, Mr. Khiladi seems to be getting more and more stylish with time, and he is not hesitant at all when it comes to establishing that too! Bravo.
