  1. Yesterday, a little boy from Mizoram went viral for his simple act of kindness. In case you didn't know, the boy was cycling when he accidentally ran over his neighbour's chicken. He was so scared for the injured chicken that he rushed it to the nearest hospital and asked for help with whatever money he had. His simple act of kindness may not be something extraordinary, but the little kid is definitely a hero in his own right and his actions have taught us adults a huge lesson on humanity. The kid has been identified as 6-year-old Derek C Lalchhanhima from Sairang. In fact, Derek is now his school's hero too and was recently rewarded for his sweet gesture. Here's Derek proudly holding his 'Word of Appreciation' certificate, which he received at his School St. Pio, Sairang today. Reportedly, Derek came home with the chick that he had accidentally killed and did not understand that the chick is dead. He begged his parents, but when his parents told him to go himself, he did exactly that with whatever money he had i.e. Rs 10. The nurse couldn't stop from gushing over the little kid's innocence. Derek's innocent gesture has won everyone's heart and we hope more and more people can learn from this cute little 6-year-old.
  2. Ryan Belcher is a 29-year old Powerlifter who weighs 350 pounds from Michigan. He can squat an impressive 950 pounds and deadlift 800 pounds. View this post on Instagram Nothing impressive. Bent over rows with the Texas Sqaut bar!! Stiff af 415x8 Top set 435x8 A post shared by Ryan Belcher (@iam1him) on Mar 25, 2019 at 4:48pm PDT It was a normal day for Ryan at the gym when he heard a loud crash outside. He rushed out to see that a car had toppled and had pinned a man underneath, who was screaming for help. He saw that four other men were unsuccessfully attempting to move the vehicle and he thought to himself that there was never going to be a better time than that moment where he could use his strength to save a life. The Jeep vehicle weighed 2 tonnes and Ryan knew that he could move it enough to rescue the man. He jumped right in and moved the vehicle enough to remove the victim from underneath. The injured man was rushed to the hospital and was admitted with internal bleeding. The nurses said that had Ryan been not present there at that moment, the man would have not lived. Reacting to the whole scenario, Ryan gave a statement to the local news saying, "I knew if I could swing the vehicle in a certain direction I could free him from that pole. So I just stuck my arms in and I just, I don't know, I just grabbed it and lifted up and started pushing." 3. Seems like Apple was able to save yet another life, thanks to its heart rate sensor as it was able to detect unusual activity in a man's pulse rate. The Apple Watch has been known to be able to save lives via features that are in-built in the smartwatch. In this particular case, the man was diagnosed with tachycardia. © YouTube The man was Science Friday radio host Ira Flatow's brother and the incident was tweeted by him saying “saved by his Apple Watch,” The Apple Watch alerted him to a rapid heartbeat and suggested that he should visit a hospital. My brother was saved by his Apple Watch. After he felt a rapid heart beat >200 bpm, his watch told him to “go to the hospital.” He did and his tachycardia was diagnosed. — Ira Flatow (@iraflatow) March 7, 2019 Tachycardia is a condition when the heart rate exceeds the normal resting rate. Generally, if the resting heart rate is above 10 beats per minute, the condition is considered "tachycardia". Flatlow continued to say that his brother commented on the accuracy of his Apple Watch “and BTW, during the 15 hours I was at the hospital hooked up to the monitors, my the monitors never disagreed with my watch's reading. I checked MANY times.” © MensXP It's not the first time where the Apple Watch was able to save someone's life. Recently, a Norwegian man was saved by his Apple Watch thanks to its fall detection feature. If you want to know other instances where the Apple Watch was able to save a life, you can read all about it here.
  4. A man took a serious tumble in the middle of the night and his life may have been saved thanks to the Apple Watch. Toralv Østvang, a 67-year-old Norwegian man got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and fainted. The Apple Watch detected his fall and alerted emergency services. © Apple The Apple Watch series 4 has been known to save lives in the past thanks to numerous features such as heart rate monitoring, the new ECG app that can detect heart diseases and now the fall detect feature has been credited. The fall detecting feature works when a user falls and is unresponsive for 1 minute. The smartwatch will then automatically alert emergency services so that the user can be rescued. The police found Østvang bleeding on the bathroom floor with three fractures to his face. © Apple His daughter gives credit to the Apple Watch for saving his life, telling NRK: : "It could have gone so much worse. All morning we asked 'What had happened if he hadn't worn a smart watch?' He didn't bring his mobile phone in the bathroom. It's amazing that he got so quick help from the alarm, until the police found him. It was a serious fall..." © MensXP - Akshay Bhalla This is not the first time the Apple Watch has managed to save a life and there have been numerous instances in the past. You can read about different instances where the Apple Watch has saved lives by detecting diseases and even car crashes. You can read about 5 times the Apple Watch saved someone's life here.
  5. The Apple Watch Series 4 comes with an ECG function that was recently released in the U.S. Since it became available for about a month, the feature is already proving to be a useful one. It was able to detect atrial fibrillation with the new feature and saved a man's life in Nashua, New Hampshire. Barry Maden originally bought the Apple Watch to “keep a closer eye on his health after suffering a brain injury.” He bought the Apple Watch for it's Fall Detection feature. “He originally got it because they have a new fall risk app where, if he were to fall and I'm not nearby, the fall sensor will sense that he fell and call 911,” said his wife, Tara Maden. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla He originally thought he was suffering from anxiety due to travelling for the holidays. However, his Apple Watch alerted him that his heart appeared to be in A-fib. It isn't clear if Maden used the ECG app right away to detect the A-fib. However, it was enough for him to double check if he was suffering from something serious. He soon thereafter took himself to the emergency room. © Apple At the hospital, doctors performed their own tests using a more advanced ECG device to verify the Apple Watch's discovery. It was soon discovered that Maden's “heart was essentially stopped and restarted by doctors.” The Apple Watch has been found to save lives previously and recently saved a woman from drowning in water as her car flipped over. 6. There have been numerous instances in the past where the Apple Watch saved lives, thanks to features on board that facilitates emergency services. There have been instances where users were warned of an impending heart attack, indicating heart diseases due to abnormal heart rates and even car crashes. You can read all previous cases of Apple Watch's capability to save lives here. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla Now according to a report from Spectrum Bay News 9, another incident resulted in the Apple Watch saving its user's life. However, this time a woman was saved due to a car crash that flipped several times before it landed in a ditch filled with mud and water. © YouTube (for representation purposes only) During the crash, Amanda Antonio, 20, had lost her phone but managed to locate it using a feature on the Apple Watch that pings the smartphone. She then called 911 and according to the transcript this is what she said “Hi, I've been in a car accident. My car is flipped and I can't see anything and there's water getting in the car. I can't get out. The water level was apparently rising at a fast pace and had reached Antonio's chin level. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla The feature on the Apple Watch lets users ping their paired iPhone that makes a sound to let the user know where it is. It's a nifty feature that not only lets you find your iPhone, but apparently can also end up saving lives. To know more about Apple's latest smartwatch, you can read our review here. 7. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, 'Kedarnath' was released today, as it witnessed the debut of Saif Ali Khan's daughter Sara Ali Khan and also stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead. The movie is based on the tragic Uttarakhand floods of 2013 and has a backdrop of an inter-faith love story. While the reactions to the movie have been mixed in terms of its storyline and the plot, the one thing that everyone agrees upon is the fact that Sara Ali Khan is here to stay and showed her prowess as a natural actor in 'Kedarnath'. 8. Apple Watch Series 4 was announced last month and it brings in a load of new health-centric features. Previously, the Apple Watch has been successful in detecting heart diseases, consistent high/low blood pressure, as well as abnormal heart behaviour. Now, the new watch features fall detection that uses a similar mechanism that tracks complex forms of motion like swimming. The new fall detection alerts emergency contacts saved in your iPhone, in case you meet with a hard fall. This has been achieved by incorporating more powerful and well-calibrated accelerometer and gyroscope. © CultOfMac According to Swedish publication Aftonbladet, 34-year old Gustavo Rodriguez, an Apple Watch Series 4 user is the first person to be saved by the wearable. The watch detected that he had a fall due to severe back pain. The watch offered to call up the Swedish emergency services, even when his phone was in the other room. The report states that Gustavo's wrist pounded and asked: “Do you want to call 112?”. “My Apple Watch had known the case and wondered if it would call an emergency call". The interesting thing here isn't just that the Watch recognized accurately what was going on and responded appropriately. © Aftonbladet Apple has gathered data from people wearing Apple Watches (running customized software) in a movement disorder clinic, assisted living facilities, and friends and family of Apple employees. More than 2,500 people and 250,000 days of data were analyzed to program the system for fall detection. “We learned that with falls, there's this repeatable motion pattern that happens,” Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer, said during the company's keynote in September when announcing the feature. “For example, when you trip, your body will naturally pitch forward, and your arms will go out involuntarily to brace yourself. However, if you slip, there's a natural upward motion of the arms.” © Apple The new Apple Watch now features a 30 per cent larger display and it now runs to the edges rather than floats in a black bezel. It is powered by a new S4 chipset that Apple claims is two times faster. Apple has also added a new feature that can monitor your Electrocardiography Readings or generally called ECG. Unfortunately, the ECG feature required medical approval from local authorities and hence is available only in the USA right now. But the addition of these health features has turned the Apple Watch into a much more capable gadget that is always connected via LTE and acts as a personal health / medical device. 9. An Air India flight suffered multiple system failure, had almost no fuel and faced severe weather conditions while trying to land at the John F Kennedy Airport in New York. The pilot managed to save the life of 370 passengers on board by manually landing the plane on the runway. © Air India Air India 101 was flying direct from New Delhi to New York and faced one of the worst situations any pilot would never want to face in their career. The plane experienced multiple system failure and was extremely low on fuel. The pilot immediately reported the situation to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) as the flight also witnessed other failures such as the malfunctioning of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) receivers. Despite all the problems, the pilot managed to land the plane at a different airport in Newark. The landing instrument that malfunctioned allows a pilot to approach a runway blindly. © Star Alliance According to reports, the B777 aircraft has flown over 36,985 hours and has been in service for almost 9 years. While the incident was transpiring, there was panic among passengers as the aircraft managed to land. A pilot can fly an aircraft without the onboard navigation system, however, the accuracy often suffers. Today, most Airports in the world have different Required Navigation Performance (RNP) parameters. Airports have different separation parameters between aircraft which are in turn defined by the RNP. As the LNAV and VNAV were malfunctioning on the Air India flight, it would have been difficult for the pilot to follow the separation indicated by ATC.
  10. Our men in uniform spend sleepless nights so that we can sleep in peace. While we go home for Rakhi or maybe Diwali, our brave men work 365 days a year, sacrifice their family lives, so our families can celebrate with joy. Major Hemant Raj is no different. He was scheduled to fly to Kochi to celebrate Onam with his family but when he landed in Delhi, he got to know that most flights to Kochi were cancelled due to the flood situation. He immediately knew what he had to do. After requesting the officials to put him on the next flight that was available, Major Hemant went back home and immediately became a part of the relief work. 11. Remember that Disaster Management class you had back in school? If you didn't pay attention to all those safety tips and all the other important stuff, then it really sucks, because they can actually save your life and the lives of so many others in an emergency. Case in point- Zen Sadavarte, a 10-year-old who single-handedly stopped the death toll of a fire from reaching double digits. A massive fire broke out at a residential building, Crystal Tower, near Hindmata Cinema in Parel in Mumbai yesterday, claiming the lives of four people and injuring several others. Any person would have started panicking in such a situation, but this brave little girl used her presence of mind to save the lives of her family and her neighbours. After a huge fire broke out in Mumbai's #CrystalTower building, 12-year-old Zen Sadavarte showed great presence of mind and employed basic #FireSafety tips she had learnt in school and ensured the safety of her family. Real #DisasterManagement pic.twitter.com/NqS2foUA3K — Aniruddha's ADM (@aniruddhasadm) August 23, 2018 As soon as she realized that there was a fire in her building, she remained calm and informed her family and neighbours. Moreover, she made a make-shift purifier for everyone out of cloth and water, so that no one would suffocate from the smoke. Zen Gunratan Sadavarte, a 10-year-old girl helped in evacuation operation during the fire that broke out in Mumbai's Crystal Tower, today, says. 'I convinced people to put wet cloth on their face so that they do not suffocate. I had done a research on this.' #Maharashtra pic.twitter.com/9Gk7vgDao2 — ANI (@ANI) August 22, 2018 Now, that's so simple yet genius. Everyone in that situation should be able to do that but most would panic and run out, hoping for the best. This way, people can breathe while escaping to safety. Zen said, “I had learned this technique while researching for my Class 3 project for Disaster Management. I had also learnt during the project that in such scenarios one should not panic. I told everyone exactly the same. Later, I asked them to wet a cloth and cover their face and breathe through it." This is Zen Sadavarte, a ten-year-old girl who just saved 16 people's lives in a Mumbai building fire. She opened all the windows and knocked on neighbors' doors as soon as she saw the fire, and fashioned air purifiers out of cotton and water for each person present. #pics pic.twitter.com/svSvHFMQly — The Best Pictures (@BeautifuImages) August 23, 2018 It is being said that her technique helped in saving the lives of at least 16 people and if you don't think that's truly incredible, then something's wrong with you. People are applauding her, and rightly so. Zen Sadavarte: true hero! This 10 year old girl is a hero. She saved 14 lives from the fire that occurred in her building yesterday. Kept her cool and guided them to safety. She executed the safety drills she had read about ðð»ðð» — Aaditya Thackeray (@AUThackeray) August 23, 2018 Children like this make our country proud. 12. It's sad that such an unfortunate thing brought the entire country together, but everyone's here and willing to help. As everyone knows, Kerala is going through the worst floods ever and people need any help that they can get. With so many people having already lost their lives and way more people having been displaced, losing everything they own, this is the kind of disaster that couldn't just be prayed away. People have come together to donate whatever they can to help, how much or little they can and that includes children, who have so much compassion for fellow humans, it's so great to see. One such kid is a nine-year-old from Tamil Nadu whose gesture is so beautiful, it's rare to see kids act so maturely. Anupriya from Villupuram had saved about Rs 9000 over the course of four years to buy a new bicycle for herself, but she donated all the money for a better cause. Yes, she gave away all the money to the Kerala relief flood and actually set an example for everyone. “I had saved money (around Rs 9000) for over four years to buy a cycle. But I saw visuals of Kerala flood on televisions and decided to give the money (toward relief activities),” she told reporters. Someone tweeted about her selfless gesture and as soon as more people learned about her donation, they had nothing but respect for her kindness. Way to go, Anupriya!
  13. There have been numerous instances where the Apple Watch was able to save a life, however, this time the Apple Watch was able to detect something entirely different. The smartwatch was able to discover a hole in a man's heart and the man wouldn't have been able to discover it, if it weren't for the Apple Watch. © BCCL The heart rate monitor on the device was able to detect his erratic heartbeat, as it was far too fast while he was asleep. The abnormality caused him to take notice and seek medical attention immediately. "My sleeping heart rate was averaging about 130-140 beats per minute. So that was while I was resting about six hours at night,” Adam Love told the local Australian news website 9News. It was found, that one of his lungs was sending blood into the wrong part of his heart. That meant the blood was sent from the lung to the heart and was being circulated right back — not around to the rest of the body. This was a cause for concern and it was later discovered that this anomaly was happening because of a hole in the heart. © BCCL The 24-year-old man went through surgery and was discharged later but still had weeks of recovery left. Because of this incident, his faith in the Apple Watch increased exponentially and he is now a fan of the smartwatch. "I don't think I'd live without one now. I love it for the convenience but also the fact it just picked up something medically that I had no idea about and it potentially saved my life.” Just back in May, the Apple Watch saved a woman's life in India and countless others in the past few months. In fact, here's a list of people whose lives were saved thanks to the Apple Watch, in the recent past.
