  1. Arguably one of the most iconic openers in Indian cricket history, Gautam Gambhir broke many hearts when he announced his retirement from all the formats on 5th December. Taking to the social media, the left-hander had claimed that the Ranji Trophy clash between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh at the Feroz Shah Kotla will be his final game. But, for a cricketer who has been out of favour with the national team since 2016, Gambhir shut his critics and silenced all the naysayers with a final hurrah. Playing for Delhi in his farewell match, Gambhir slammed 112 runs to help his side take three points from the drawn game. It was arguably a fitting end to a career that would always be remembered fondly by the cricket fans. However, his scathing attack and recent comments on MS Dhoni has made him a subject of immense criticism on the social media. Questioning Dhoni's selection policy during the 2012 CB series, Gambhir recently slammed the former Indian captain after he decided that the left-hander, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag can't all feature together in the playing XI. © BCCL "In the 2012 Tri-series in Australia, Dhoni declared that he can't play all three (Gambhir, Sachin and Sehwag) of us together as he was looking ahead at the 2015 World Cup. It was a massive shock, I think it would have been a massive shock for any cricketer. I have not heard anyone be told in 2012 that they would never be a part of the 2015 World Cup. I always had the impression that if you keep scoring runs, age is a just a number," Gambhir told India Today. "First you decided that you won't play the three of us together, then you decided that you are going to play the three of us together. Either the original decision was wrong, or the second decision was wrong. He took that decision as a captain and it was a shock to all three of us," Gambhir added. While Gambhir, who was vital for Team India in their World Cup winning campaigns in 2007 and 2011, minced no words in expressing his views, the Indian cricket fans felt that the Delhi cricketer was probably settling old scores with Dhoni. Very easy to comment on something after retirement. Very easy to take out the past and crib about it like a baby after retirement. Instead retire like a man and stick to it without cribbing about past decisions #Gambhir #Dhoni — Sam (@sam1223456) December 9, 2018 #gambhir #Dhoni whatever is going in not good for Indian cricket.Though @GautamGambhir is great cricketer but needs to learn behave gently and maturity from various retired cricketers like #sehwag #SachinTendulkar . After 8 years and retirement it's not sounding well being. — preet (@onthesong) December 10, 2018 Gautam Gambhir has once again proven his sickly attitude by badmouthing MS Dhoni. Navjot Siddhu refused to say a word about what happened in the dressing room after he retired midway through the series in England. Which scenario sees the righteousness upheld? Well. — Aswin Balaji Subramanyan (@balaji201288) December 9, 2018 Gambhir phir se Dhoni ke piche pad gaya. Dhoni's decision was absolutely right . If you cant digest a Long term decision that's your problem . IPL se captaincy experts ban jate hai Saab . — Doctor Phd (@iDoctorPhd) December 9, 2018 He was already 31 at that time plus out of form, Dhoni did a right thing to bring in Shikhar dhawan who was in fantastic form at that time. He did all this keeping in mind worldcup 2015 and ct 2013. He knew gg won't survive till wc. — Direct Hit (@bevdashastri) December 9, 2018 Gautam Gambhir claims to be an 'honest' man but he chose to criticize MS Dhoni, selectors etc after his retirement. So, he certainly wasn't honest to them all these years — Hari Sadanandan (@iamharry_88) December 9, 2018 He conveyed in 2012 for a reason , he was forced play them in a desperate situation , but did he ultimately change his decision NO , that was just one match. So stop sobbing about that one irrelevant incident that happened in one tri series. This is proper Drama Queen stuff . — Doctor Phd (@iDoctorPhd) December 9, 2018
