  1. The popularity of Allu Arjun’s latest blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise has broken records not only in India but also worldwide, as fans are showering love on the movie. And now, it seems the craze of Pushpa has taken over the cricket fraternity as well. The likes of Suresh Raina, Hardik Pandya have grooved to the famous track – 'Srivalli' – from the movie while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had shared a photo of him, recreating Allu Arjun’s Pushpa look. View this post on Instagram Australian cricketer, David Warner had also posted a snippet from the movie in which he swapped his face with Allu Arjun. The Pushpa trend has also taken over the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) where many cricketers have performed the ‘Srivalli hook step’ while celebrating a wicket. Nazmul Islam from Bangladesh started the trend in BPL and soon, West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who enjoys a huge fan following in India thanks to his participation in the Indian Premier League, too enacted Allu Arjun’s step after a dismissal. The recent entrant in the list of players who have tried Allu Arjun’s hook step is former Bangladesh skipper and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib, playing for the Fortune Barishal, picked up the wicket of Faf du Plessis in the sixth over of the match and then recreated Allu Arjun’s trademark move from the movie in which the actor runs his hand across his chin. View this post on Instagram After seeing Shakib perform the move, fans labelled BPL as ‘Bangladesh Pushpa League’. Shakib’s own performance with the ball was fine as he picked up two wickets and gave away just 25 runs in his quota of four overs but with the bat, chasing a target of 159, he failed to save his team the blushes as they were bowled out for 95 in the 18th over. Shakib scored just one run after facing four balls. View the full article

  7. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan created yet another controversy with his atrocious behaviour during a local T20 match in his home country. Shakib lost his cool not once but twice at the on-field umpire during the game, something which is least expected from a player of his stature. Having top-scored for his side Mohammedan Sporting Club, Shakib was expected to lead them by example but his actions brought utter not just to his team but the entire nation, where millions of people follow cricket religiously. The first incident happened when Shakib's LBW appeal against his international teammate Mushfiqur Rahim was turned down by the on-field umpire on the penultimate ball of the fifth over. Unhappy with the umpire's decision, Shakib kicked the stumps in anger and brought them down. Who’s this? Is it Shakib al Hasan? pic.twitter.com/kk69rdyyod — Iceland Cricket (@icelandcricket) June 11, 2021 Having broken several codes of conducts with his first action, Shakib was allowed to continue in the game and he went one step further bringing the game into disrepute. Things got really dirty after the umpire signalled towards the ground staff to bring on the covers with only a ball left in the sixth over. Shakib's temper knew no bounds as he charged in towards the umpire and uprooted the stumps and threw them on the ground. Such incidents were never seen before on a cricket field and what made it even more shocking was a player of such magnitude having no regard for the match officials. Hence, the reaction that followed on social media were only natural, with people falling short of all adjectives to describe Shakib's disgraceful behaviour. Shocker from #Shakib.. Surely he's a role model for many young Bangladeshi cricketers. And this behaviour is unacceptable.#Shakib @UTK_019 @Ayush70795293 @james92cricket @indianLoganwa @The_BarberPans @ClownNo69 @cricFan12987 pic.twitter.com/wXFqV8twFI — Mohan Kumar S (@mohan_sachin007) June 11, 2021 After facing the wrath on social media, Shakib posted an apology message on his Facebook account where he rendered his apology describing his actions as "human error" he was really ashamed of. "Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens unfortunately," read Shakib's post. "I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won't be repeating this again in the future. Thanks and love you all SAH," he added. However, fans were in no mood to let him go away that easily and demanded serious actions be taken against him. Absolutely disgraceful from Shakib . He did lose his cool during Nidahas earlier . Mushfiq a couple of times before this. U19 boys were downright pathetic. 10. Not more than three months ago, Shakib Al Hasan's name was on the lips of every fan of international cricket during the ICC World Cup 2019 and how he made a magnificent comeback to the game and took the entire world by surprise. Having played just eight matches during the entire tournament, Shakib was amongst the top three batsmen in scoring and had one of the best bowling figures in an innings with the record of 5/29 (against Afghanistan). Shakib Al Hasan wins the Man of the Match award for his 51 off 69 deliveries with the bat and 5-29 with the ball! #CWC19 #BANvAFG #RiseOfTheTigers #AfghanAtalan pic.twitter.com/p8Kz0cNA9G — Circle of Cricket (@circleofcricket) June 24, 2019 The name of the Bangladesh cricketer continues to be in the news but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. The all-rounder has been banned for two years for failing to report a match-fixing approach which was made to him way back in January 2018 and keeping it a secret from all the anti-corruption bodies that work alongside the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to prevent such occurrences. But here's the twist. Out of the two years of being banned, Al Hasan is only being suspended from playing cricket for just one year and will be set to return to the field as early as October 2020. BREAKING NEWS: ICC imposes 2 years ban on Shakib Al Hasan, with one year of suspension from all forms of cricket after accepting three charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. #ShakibAlHasan pic.twitter.com/mAeXVjGRiK — CricStay (@CricStay) October 29, 2019 Considering the fact that the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the various national cricket boards from all across the globe are trying to prevent such cases of corruption and hold briefing sessions with the players on a regular basis and the fact that Shakib is a seasoned veteran of the team should be enough for the decision makers to go for a severe punishment than just a 12-month suspension. While the BCB is making a case in favour of the cricketer because he accepted the charges put against him, it is important that a better, stricter example should be made out of him just like the former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja wrote on Twitter: So Shakib Al Hasan's ban has a lesson for all sports lovers and sportsmen: if you disregard the game and try to become bigger than the game by sidetracking the laid rules and protocols then be ready for a fantastic fall! Sad. — Ramiz Raja (@iramizraja) October 29, 2019 Make no mistake about it. Shakib knew that the approach made by a certain Deepak Agarwal for “inside information” was illegal and against the spirit of cricket and he knew that it was his responsibility to inform the authorities about the whole incident but he didn't. 11. Arguably one of the best allrounders in modern-day cricket, Shakib Al Hasan, over the years, has proved to be a vital cog in the Bangladesh setup. His ability to stabilise and, if need be, accelerate the innings makes him a key ingredient in the Bangladeshi batting line-up, while his abilities with the ball adds teeth to the Tigers' bowling attack. But, for someone who is almost the first name to feature on the playing XI sheet for Bangladesh, Shakib has found himself in hot waters, which is likely to rule him out of the upcoming tour of India. Going by the media reports, the Bangladesh allrounder is set to be banned for his failure to report a match-fixing approach © Reuters Bangladesh's Test and T20I skipper is reportedly facing a 18-month ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC). There has been uncertainty over Shakib's availability for the India tour after he missed the pre-tour camp, including a practice game in Mirpur. "It was on the insistence of ICC that Shakib has been kept away from practice by the BCB. That's the reason he neither featured in the practice games nor did he join the meeting late on Monday evening with the president to discuss pink ball Test," Bangladesh's leading Bengali daily 'Samakal' reported. While the ICC has, so far, refrained from making any comment at this stage, the daily claimed that Shakib received an offer from a bookie before an international match two years ago, which he did not report to the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). The newspaper further added that the Bangladesh captain also confessed about it to the ACSU's investigating officers in a recent interaction. © Reuters The latest developments surrounding Shakib has further added to Bangladesh's problems ahead of their much-anticipated tour of India which includes three T20Is and two Tests, slated to begin from 3rd November. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to convince its players to agree to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly's proposal for a day-night Test at the Eden Gardens. Shakib had recently spearheaded a players' strike before calling it off after the BCB assured that their demands, including a pay hike, will be fulfilled. While the Bangladesh squad is set to leave for the India tour on 30th October, Shakib is not expected to be a part of the touring party. In the absence of Bangladesh's star player, senior cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim is likely to lead their Test team and the likes of Mahmudullah Riyad or Mosaddek Hossain are expected to marshal the troops in three-match T20I series. 12. Shakib Al Hasan had come to the edge of the boundary and asked his batsmen to come off the field COLOMBO: The International Cricket Council (ICC) Saturday fined Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan over his aggressive behaviour during a thrilling Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka. The sport´s world governing body said Shakib pleaded guilty to the charge of "conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game" at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday. He was also awarded a demerit point. Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by two wickets in the ill-tempered match to reach the final of the tri-nation tournament. The incident involving Shakib took place after the second ball of the final over of the Bangladesh innings when he came to the edge of the boundary and asked his batsmen to come off the field. The Bangladesh team alleged that the square-leg umpire had signalled a no-ball and then changed his decision, prompting Shakib to call the batsmen back to the pavilion. Reserve player Nurul Hasan, who was sent on to the field with a message from the Bangladesh dressing room, was also involved in a spat with Sri Lankan skipper Thisara Perera. Nurul also pleaded guilty to unruly behaviour and was also fined 25 percent of his match fee and awarded one demerit point. ICC match referee Chris Broad said Friday´s incidents were disappointing, and the penalties were imposed without a formal hearing because the players did not contest the charges. "I understand that it was... tense and an edge-of-the-seat match with (a) place in the final on the line, but the actions of the two players were unacceptable and cannot be condoned as they clearly went overboard," Broad said. "Had the fourth umpire not stopped Shakib and the fielders remonstrating, and then the on-field umpires not intervened between Nurul and Thisara, things could have become worse." Shakib had led protests against the umpires when the second ball of the final over was deemed legitimate despite Sri Lanka´s Isuru Udana bowling two bouncers. A bowler can bowl only one bouncer -- above shoulder height to the batsman -- in limited-overs cricket, but the decision lies with the umpire. Needing 12 to win off the last six balls, Mustafizur Rahman was run out on the second delivery and there was pandemonium when Shakib gestured to his batsmen to come off the field. The batsmen stayed put, however, and Mahmudullah steered the Tigers to a thrilling win with a six off the penultimate ball. Bangladesh will face India in the final of the tri-series, which has been organised to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Sri Lanka´s independence from Britain.
  13. AB de Villiers in action during Champions Trophy 2017 KIMBERLEY, SOUTH AFRICA: The return of leading all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan provides encouragement for Bangladesh ahead of a three-match one-day international series against South Africa starting at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley Sunday. But Bangladesh, outplayed in two Tests against the hosts, will have to contend with a South African team strengthened by the inclusion of AB de Villiers, one of the world´s most dazzling limited-overs batsmen. Also back in international action for South Africa is JP Duminy, who retired from Test cricket after a run of low scores, but who remains a highly effective one-day player. In the most recent one-day outings for both teams, Bangladesh reached the semi-finals of the ICC Champions League in England in June, while South Africa failed to advance beyond the group stage. Bangladesh were victorious in their two most recent one-day internationals against South Africa when they won a series at home in 2015. But the hosts will start strong favourites. South Africa have won 14 of 17 one-day matches against Bangladesh and triumphed in all six previous encounters in South Africa by convincing margins. Bangladesh will be under new leadership with veteran bowler Mashrafe Mortaza captaining the side instead of Mushfiqur Rahim, who remains in the squad. Shakib al Hasan Although Shakib´s return from a brief sabbatical will strengthen the tourists, they still rely mainly on the players who suffered two crushing Test defeats. Nor was there any encouragement for Bangladesh when they were convincingly beaten by an invitation team in a warm-up match in Bloemfontein on Thursday, despite Shakib top scoring for the tourists with 68. For South Africa, the series is the first step on a road to the 2019 World Cup. Faf du Plessis has replaced De Villiers as the one-day captain and together with new coach Ottis Gibson will be seeking to build a squad capable of challenging for global honours. West Indian Gibson said the intention was to give opportunities over the next year to a large number of players, effectively serving notice to players currently in the squad that they need to perform to remain in the mix. Squads South Africa: Faf du Plessis (capt), Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock (wkt), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Dane Paterson, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada Coach: Ottis Gibson (WIS) Bangladesh: Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), Imrul Kayes, Liton Das (wkt), Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim (wkt), Mustafizur Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal, Taskin Ahmed. 14. Bangladesh's Mohammad Mahmudullah celebrates at the end of the match against New Zealand, part of 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Group A, in Sophia Gardens. June 9, 2017. Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Couldridge Livepic Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan shared a superb 224-run partnership to lead Bangladesh to a memorable five-wicket victory over New Zealand, who were knocked out of the Champions Trophy on Friday. Chasing 266 to win the Group A game, Bangladesh slumped to 33 for four as Kiwi seamers Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Adam Milne made the new ball swing. Opener Tamim Iqbal, who had scored 128 and 95 in his last two innings, was trapped lbw for nought by Southee in the first over. The 28-year-old Southee ran through the Bangladesh top order, dismissing Soumya Sarkar (3), and Sabbir Rahman (8) before Milne removed Mushfiqur Rahim for 14. But Mahmudullah and Shakib produced a vintage batting display, keeping the required run rate under control as they put together the first 200-run stand for Bangladesh in one-day internationals. Shakib reached his hundred with a massive six in the 46th over before Boult removed him for 114 and Mahmudullah finished on 102 not out to guide Bangladesh home with 16 balls top spare. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat after the match was delayed by an hour due to rain. Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed made an early breakthrough when Luke Ronchi gave a catch to mid-on with 46 runs on the board. Williamson (57) and Ross Taylor added 83 runs for the third wicket before the skipper was run out after being sent back attempting to sneak a quick a single. Ahmed returned to the attack to dismiss Taylor who made 63 off 82 deliveries. Part-time off-spinner Mosaddek Hossain stunned the Kiwi middle-order, removing Neil Broom (36), Jimmy Neesham (23), and Corey Anderson, who was trapped lbw for a first-ball duck. New Zealand managed just 62 runs in the final 10 overs, the lowest tally by any team in the this year's tournament. Bangladesh moved up to second in the standings and will qualify for the semi-finals if Group A leaders England beat third-placed Australia on Saturday.
  15. Cardiff, United Kingdom: Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah both made superb centuries as Bangladesh completed a stunning five-wicket win over New Zealand that kept alive their hopes of reaching the Champions Trophy semi-finals. Bangladesh collapsed to 33 for four chasing a modest 265 for victory after Tim Southee removed all their top three batsmen. But left-hander Shakib (114) and Mahmudullah (102) turned the tide with a stand of 224 -- Bangladesh´s highest one-day international partnership for any wicket, with this result ending New Zealand´s bid to reach the last four. Now Bangladesh must hope that tournament hosts England beat Australia in the final Group A match at Edgbaston on Saturday if they are to go through to the semi-finals. A win for Australia would see them join already-qualified England in the last four and knock out Bangladesh. But if Saturday´s match, as has happened twice to Australia already this tournament, ends in a no result washout it will be Bangladesh who go into the semi-finals. Earlier, Ross Taylor (63) and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson added 83 for the third wicket before the Blackcaps suffered a middle-order collapse. Off-spinner Mosaddek Hossain justified his recall with three for 13 in three overs while placeman Taskin Ahmed, also brought back for this match, took two for 43 in eight overs.
  16. CARDIFF: Bangladesh beat New Zealand by five wickets in their Champions Trophy Group A match at Cardiff on Friday, with Mossadek Hossain marking his return to the Bangladesh side by taking three wickets New Zealand slumped to a total of 265 for eight in a must-win Champions Trophy clash at Cardiff on Friday. New Zealand were well set while captain Kane Williamson (57) and Ross Taylor (63) were sharing a stand of 83 -- their third fifty partnership in as many matches this tournament. But, as happened in their no-result washout with Australia and defeat by England, the Blackcaps? innings collapsed once the experienced batsmen were out in quick succession. Mossadek, chosen ahead of fellow off-spinner Mehedi Hasan, took two wickets in three balls on his way to impressive figures of three for 13 in three overs. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, Bangladesh?s other change to a side that escaped with a no result against Australia, took two for 43 in eight overs. New Zealand, who had been 152 for three off 30 overs, only managed 113 more runs in the last 20 overs. Given 300 is now generally regarded as a ?par score?, Bangladesh were on top at the half-way stage -- especially as Williamson had won the toss. Both Bangladesh and New Zealand had to win this Group A match to stand a chance of going through to the semi-finals, although a victory for Australia against England at Edgbaston on Saturday would see them join the already-qualified tournament hosts in the last four. New Zealand opener Martin Guptill was in excellent touch after the match started an hour late due to rain and drove Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza for six. But Bangladesh?s change bowlers removed both Luke Ronchi and fellow opener Guptill to leave New Zealand 69 for two. The extra pace of Taskin, recalled instead of batsman Imrul Kayes, appeared to surprise Luke Ronchi (16), a mistimed pull lobbing gently to Mustafizur Rahman at mid-on. Guptill?s 33 then came to an end when he was lbw to Rubel Hossain. Williamson, fresh from scores of 100 and 87 against England and Australia, showed his class with several elegant fours. Taylor too drove Taskin down the ground before sweeping spinner Shakib Al Hasan for four. Williamson went on to complete a 58-ball fifty, but he ran himself out as Bangladesh were rewarded for building pressure. Taylor turned Shakib straight to Mossadek at short fine leg and non-striker Williamson set off for a single that was never on. With Taylor not moving, Williamson turned but was run out as Shakib tidied up a wayward throw from Mossadek. New Zealand needed Taylor to ?go on? to a big score but Taskin, spotting the batsman was trying to ramp him, adjusted his length and an 82-ball innings ended with a simple catch to short fine leg. Mossadek then removed New Zealand?s next three batsmen, striking twice in the 44th over when Neil Broom (36) sliced to backward point and Corey Anderson was plumb lbw for a duck. The spinner completed his haul by having Jimmy Neesham (23), yards down the pitch, stumped by Mushfiqur Rahim.
  17. DHAKA: Bangladesh on Saturday appointed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as their next captain for Twenty20 internationals, replacing retired fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza. Mashrafe announced his retirement from the game’s shortest format during Bangladesh recent series against Sri Lanka. Shakib’s appointment was confirmed in a meeting of the Bangladesh Cricket Board at its headquarters in Dhaka. "Since Mashrafe has retired, the board unanimously agreed to appoint Shakib as Bangladesh’s next captain for Twenty20 internationals," BCB president Nazmul Hasan told reporters after the meeting. "A few other names were discussed but in the end we all have agreed to appoint Shakib," he said. Nazmul did not give any timeframe for Shakib, who is expected to assume his role against Pakistan in July. Shakib, who captained Bangladesh in 2009-11 in all formats of the game, has so far led the team in four Twenty20 internationals, which they all lost. With his appointment, Bangladesh have now three separate captains for three formats with Mushfiqur Rahim leading the Test side and Mashrafe at the helm of one-day international side.
