The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently underway in full swing, with 10 teams fighting it out in the group stage. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already geared up to take the tournament to the next level. The world’s richest cricket board has already started issuing the Invitation-To-Tender (ITT) to sell the broadcasting rights for the next five-year cycle 2023-27. © IPL Some of the biggest media companies including Disney, Zee, Sony, TV18-Viacom and Amazon have already purchased the tender documents in the last one week and several others like Apple and YouTube are also interested in associating themselves with the cash-rich league. According to a Times of India report, the American tech giant Apple is expected to pick the tender documents next week. The interest from some of the biggest companies is a clear indication of the league’s immense popularity. Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has grown multi-folds and that’s why everyone wants to become a part of the tournament. © Reuters The world’s biggest phone brand Apple has never bid for any major cricket competition before and their interest indicates that the league has the potential to rival the world’s biggest sporting events in the future. For the Indian cricket board, this is great news. However, fans are not very excited at the prospect of Apple entering the bidding war for IPL’s broadcasting rights. © Reuters The reason is simple, many believe that if Apple succeeded in putting together a successful bid, watching the league would become very expensive. Apple is known for its premium quality smartphones which cost lakhs of rupees and it’s a luxury that not everyone can afford. As soon as the news of Apple showing interest in IPL media rights started doing rounds on social media, the fans started expressing their apprehensions. The usual jokes about “selling kidney” that float around the internet whenever a new iPhone is launched started doing rounds in response to this news as well. In fact, Apple’s digital streaming platform costs only Rs 99 per month which is cheaper than what many other major OTT platforms charge for their annual subscription. It’s not a given if Apple would win the rights but even if they do, rest assured that watching IPL wouldn’t be out of your reach. View the full article

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is currently in progress, and fans have already watched some thrilling bat-and-ball action. At the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, Gujarat Titans faced Delhi Capitals in the competition's tenth match. The match played out like a rollercoaster, with DC looking for a key role while pursuing 172. The likes of Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan, and, especially, Lockie Ferguson, though, were too hot to handle for the Delhi hitters, and GT won their second game in a row. In the meantime, the game drew attention for a different reason. ?????? pic.twitter.com/EJw4LEJPyF — Prayag (@theprayagtiwari) April 2, 2022 A couple was seen kissing in the stands, and the photo quickly went viral. And without taking a lot of time, people started talking about it as if they had never seen anyone kiss both in real and reel life. The camera operators, in particular, have been a talking topic in the IPL. They tend to capture various other interesting happenings at the location, which supposedly become viral, in addition to the on-field action. Apart from him, Shubman Gill hit 84 off 46 deliveries to help the Titans reach 171/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Gujarat's triumph was their second in a row, while Delhi had one win and one loss in two games. Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, was ecstatic at the end. The all-rounder was satisfied with the overall performance, despite his initial belief that the total should have been higher. View the full article

Gujarat Titans, one of the two newcomer franchises this season, will have a lot to prove when they make their IPL 2022 debut. The Titans, under the leadership of captain Hardik Pandya, will have a point to prove in their maiden season of the most famous T20 league in the world when they open their campaign against fellow debutants Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. Having retained Pandya, Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan, the Titans assembled a formidable squad during the two days of IPL auction in February. The Titans' fast-bowling unit is shaping up to be one of their strongest departments. The Titans have several pace unit options, including Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami, and Varun Aaron. Former India bowler Ashish Nehra, who is coaching the Titans this season, appeared pleased with the stocks at his disposal, but he singled out one of his pacers for special attention. Shami, for example... People have offered ten crores, twelve crores, fourteen crores... but here is Shami. Nehra has always believed in him and knows that people might be saying 'Oh, white-ball format, not much impressive numbers'. Numbers in T20 formats areas it is very close. At the end, how you use a player. Here you are talking about a guy who has really bowled well, View this post on Instagram Nehra is so delighted with Shami that he has no reservations about comparing him to fellow India pacer Jasprit Bumrah. While Shami has been outstanding for India in Test cricket, he has been nothing short of amazing in limited-overs cricket. In addition, the former Indian speedster stated that Shami is on par with Jasprit Bumrah when it comes to pace. Even when people see white-ball cricket, be in T20 or ODIs, where Bumrah’s economy rate is 7.5 and Shami can be 8.2, 8.5, but it is his strike rate that amazes Nehra so much. Shami is a wicket-taker. When you have somebody like Shami and his experience, you cannot ask for anything better. View the full article

All the franchises have gone through several changes ahead of IPL 2022. The eight existing teams were only allowed to retain a maximum of four players which made it difficult for them to get hold of all their star players. Given the auction dynamics, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also had to part with talented players like Devdutt Padikkal, KS Bharat, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, among others. View this post on Instagram Sundar, who missed the second half of the season last year due to a finger injury, was bought by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), for a whopping Rs 8.75 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction last month. For the last few seasons, the Chennai all-rounder was at the RCB where he shared the dressing room with the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. View this post on Instagram One would imagine that settling into a new franchise would take some time for any player. Seems like Sundar has made this transition pretty smoothly and is not missing his old franchise even one bit. His response to whether he missed the RCB or found SRH better has angered the loyal supporters of the Bengaluru-based outfit. Oh Washington. Veedu mana Greeku Veerudu. #OrangeArmy #ReadyToRise #TATAIPL pic.twitter.com/n0zXm3u6AC — SunRisers Hyderabad (@SunRisers) March 18, 2022 Sundar’s cheeky reply came when his new teammate T Natarajan asked him “So do you miss RCB, or is this better?” “This is very good,” the all-rounder replied which made many RCB supporters furious. Some were so pissed that they thanked the RCB management for not retaining an ‘unloyal’ player like him. Noo They r Correct — ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲೇನಿದೆ ಬಿಡಿ (@Naneyidupakka) March 19, 2022Just like that, he is not even in the consideration for rcbians, not a loss to us. His statement shows how much intent he had in contributing to the team, to win the trophy. — Pandu_B_01 (@Nayak01Pandu) March 19, 2022There are many benefits of social media but the negativity like this is its biggest drawback. The RCB fans must realise that IPL, at the end of the day, is a business where emotions can’t dictate every decision you make. Before criticising Sundar for his light-hearted response, the RCB supporters must not forget that it was their franchise that parted ways with the all-rounder. The franchise didn’t raise its paddle even once at the auction for the 22-year-old. View this post on Instagram How can you expect him to sing laurels for the management which discarded him completely? It’s natural that he is trying to establish a connection with the SRH supporters before making his debut for them. View the full article

Disheartened father of Deen Mohammad says he has no hope his son's killers will be caught -
Gone are the days when cricket used to be a gentleman's game. Irrespective of their nationality, players these days don’t shy away from sledging their opponents even one bit. They like to be in the face of the opposition all the time, which makes for an exciting watch for fans all around the world. View this post on Instagram But sometimes players get too carried away in the heat of the moment and let everybody down through their on-field behaviours. There is a very thin line between aggression and arrogance and we expect players to honour that every time they step onto the field. © Twitter CPL See I’m not saying players are not allowed to make mistakes. No boddy in this world is perfect. We all make mistakes. This is what makes us human. But the problem starts when people stop learning from their mistakes. View this post on Instagram The point is everything looks good only up to a certain limit. This excessive aggression not just hampers their own image but also maligns the whole sport by portraying it in a bad light. The latest example was the incident involving Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting and Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir during a Pakistan Super League game between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. Both the seasoned campaigners have a long history against each other and on Tuesday night they once again reignited their nearly four-year-old rivalry that began during the 2018 Caribbean Premier League. View this post on Instagram Tanvir had the last laugh as it was his catch on the first ball of the final over of the innings that brought his blistering cameo of 37 runs off just 14 balls to an end. As Cutting began marching back to the pavilion, Tanvir treated him with a double middle-finger salute. How did it begin?Cutting hit a few sixes against Tanvir in 2018 CPL then Tanvir got the wicket of Cutting, he celebrated by showing the middle finger - In 2022 PSL, Cutting hit a few sixes against Tanvir and he showed middle finger later Tanvir caught Cutting and he showed middle finger again. pic.twitter.com/4GhjSbJ1YS — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) February 15, 2022 Their rivalry began during the 2018 CPL when Tanvir and Cutting came face to face against each other while playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots respectively. In that match, Tanvir had shown the Australian middle-fingers with both hands after taking his wicket through a toe-crushing yorker. This reaction was a result of what had happened earlier in the game. Cutting had smacked a six and Tanvir couldn’t digest that. View this post on Instagram Since they are considered to be role models, it’s their duty to set the right examples for the young kids who idolise them and aspire to become like them. Tanvir and Cutting were so high on their ego trip that they perhaps didn’t realise that the whole world was watching them. What’s worse was that it wasn’t a one-off incident. View the full article

Virat Kohli scored his 64th ODI half-century during the third match of the three-game series against South Africa. However, it wasn’t enough to save India from an embarrassing clean sweep against the Proteas as the visitors lost the match by four runs. For a long time, society has kept coming up with different barometers to determine the worth of a man. Sometimes, it’s their profession that makes men important, sometimes, it’s their wealth, and often times the lack of melanin in their skin makes them more appealing. But far too often, a man’s physical attributes seem the easiest to target. While women have begun to find appreciation in all shapes and sizes, it’s not always been the same for men. A physically domineering man is seen as an ‘alpha’, whereas a shorter lad is considered a ‘beta’. Traditionally, it’s always been the taller and more muscular man who’s considered to be superior to the rest. While the entire concept of the alpha-male is quite ridiculous - an ill-informed piece of research that became a marketing gimmick - the impact of such a standard has unfortunately been far too real. But it’s 2022. And thankfully, more and more people are waking up to this scam and we’ve some celebrities to thank for it. While most of them may not be overtly public and honest about their heights like Tom Holland, their superstardom has gone a long way to show that times are changing and that there’s never been a better time to be a short guy: 1. Tom Holland © Reuters Standing a decent 5’8” tall, the Spiderman: Far From Home star has been doing the festival rounds with his towering co-star and girlfriend, Zendaya, by his side. Both Tom and Zendaya have been vocal about the ludicrous standards surrounding men’s heights, where the man is always expected to be taller than the partner. Good for them! 2. Allu Arjun © Allu Arjun Allu Arjun has always been a superstar, but Pushpa: The Rise has increased his pan-India appeal. He carried the entire film on his shoulders, and at no moment did you care about the fact that the stylish star is reportedly 5’6”. 3. Salman Khan © Twitter/ANI In a TV interview, Sushmita Sen had shared a nugget from the sets of Biwi No. 1. Reportedly, Salman Khan asked Sushmita why she wasn’t wearing her heels for the scene when the 5’9” actress replied that Director, David Dhawan, wanted her to wear flats so that she won’t tower over the 5’6” Salman Khan. To which, Sallu Bhai confidently encouraged her to wear the heels as he wasn’t insecure about a woman towering over him. Honestly, we’re a little surprised by this take coming from the Sultan star. 4. Shahrukh Khan © Twitter/ANI 5’7” - The man who’s stolen the hearts of millions across the world, Shah Rukh Khan is undoubtedly the poster-child for men who are comfortable in their own skin. He might be 5’7”, but the shade of his superstardom can dwarf anyone who’s in a room with him. 5. Shahid Kapoor © Shahid Kapoor Apart from playing problematic characters like Kabir Singh from time to time, Shahid Kapoor is actually a fairly charismatic actor. The national heartbreaker is 5’7”, but his fans don’t seem to mind that one bit. 6. Saif Ali Khan © Twitter/ANI Saifu’s versatility is one of his greatest strengths, and as an actor, he has an incredible range. Perhaps it may have something to do with his 5’7” build being easier to frame and shoot. 7. Aamir Khan © Twitter/ANI 5’5” - India’s 'Mr Perfectionist' has delivered hits after hits in his long and fabled Bollywood career. Whether it be as Sahir, the villain in Dhoom 3, or Siddharth Marathe, the scrappy protagonist from Ghulam, Aamir Khan has unequivocally captured the audience’s attention without them ever questioning his 5’5” frame. 8. Ram Charan © BCCL Ram Charan will soon be seen in Rajmouli’s epic RRR as the freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju. The film has gratuitous action sequences and not once does the 5’8” star look out of place amidst all that tension and drama. So, it’s time to throw all your insecurities about your height out of the window. There’s no better way to be an attractive and confident man than to be comfortable in your skin. Disclaimer: Do note, all these heights are ball-park figures as different platforms record their numbers differently. Perhaps it may have something to do with short men being afraid to reveal the actual measurements, in case they’re seen and treated differently by their audiences. View the full article

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan became proud parents to a baby boy named Taimur Ali Khan on December 20, 2016. They had expressed happiness over an official statement announcing the birth of their son. “We are very pleased to share with you all the wonderful news about the birth of our son: Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, on the 20th of December 2016. We would like to thank the media for the understanding and support they have given us over the last 9 months, and of course especially our fans and well wishers for their continued affection. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all…With love, Saif & Kareena. Thank you,” the statement read. View this post on Instagram They had no idea that their one day old baby would fall prey to the vicious trolling. Taimur is an Arabic word which means iron but the name is commonly associated with one of the most feared conquerors in history. People started to dig for the truth about the emperor. Timur or Taimur was a Turco-Mongol conqueror and the founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia. He was a great warrior and was considered to be the last of the great nomadic conquerors of the Eurasian Steppe. He was known to be barbaric in nature. View this post on Instagram Talking about the name Taimur, Saif Ali Khan had earlier told Times Of India, “I’m aware of the heritage of the Turkish ruler and my son was not named after him. He was Timur, my son is Taimur. Perhaps the root is similar but it’s not the same name. Taimur is an ancient Persian name meaning iron. Both my wife and I liked its sound and the meaning. In fact, of all the names I ran by Kareena, she liked this one the best because it’s beautiful and strong. Taimur was the name of a boy he’d grown up with and a cousin too. It’s an old family name like Sara who was also named after a cousin I admired.” Adding further, Saif said, “I should have added a disclaimer, as they do in the movies, that any resemblance to any person, living or dead, is purely coincidental… Yes, there were some people who raised some objections but obviously just to look at medieval history and to make value judgments is, I think, ridiculous, and a lot of people have said that on my behalf. I feel quite confident that we don’t live in a right-wing society. As yet, India is still liberal and people are still open minded.” Cut to 2022, we are appalled to see that nothing has changed. So, Taimur was spotted with his parents and he perhaps was in a playful mood but he surely has no idea in his tender age that people are vicious to some other level. In the videos and the pictures, he is pointing his toy gun and taking aim at the shutterbugs. It’s normal as we have seen many kids playing with toy guns. Here are the videos and pictures: View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram Soon after the pictures and videos started to do rounds of the internet, people didn’t leave the opportunity to troll and bash a five-year old kid. They are calling him a terrorist and a ‘nanha jihaadi’. This is brutally insensitive and disturbing at many levels. It’s not okay and should be called out. Here are the reactions: © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram This shows that we as a society are regressive and have let go of our humanity. We are speechless! The much-anticipated Test series between South Africa and India is set to get underway with Centurioun’s Supersport Park playing host to the series opening Boxing Day Test. The preparations for what promises to be an exciting red-ball series has reached its last stage and with only two days left in the opening match, Cricket South Africa (CSA) released an official promo of the tour, commemorating the 30-year friendship between the two cricket boards. View this post on Instagram The two countries separated by the Indian Ocean have a long-shared history which goes beyond cricket. Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, two of the biggest advocates of non-violence, belonged to these two countries. Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Father of the Nation, arrived in South Africa in 1893 and began working as a local attorney. During his stay there he became the voice of the oppressed and challenged the local authorities by using non-violence as a weapon. The video also features some of the great cricketing heroes from both the countries, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. The video takes us through the journey of when India visited South Africa for the first time in 1993 to their more recent tour in 2018. View this post on Instagram From start to finish, the fans were mighty impressed by the quality of the promo. However, it soon turned into a huge controversy after a few supporters pointed out a glaring mistake in one of the visuals used in the one-minute long video. At around the 11-second mark, the promo cuts into an old clip perhaps from India’s first-ever tour of the Rainbow Nation and it has infuriated many Indian fans. The clip shows two South African presenters eulogising about India’s historic visit to their shore. © Reuters Some fans noticed that the India map that was placed behind them was showing an inaccurate representation of the Indian territory. The Indian government has always maintained that Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the Aksai Chin area in the Ladakh region are an integral part of India but the map used in that clip showed otherwise, which made Indian fans angry. Soon all the praise turned into criticism as Indians flocked the micro-blogging site demanding the South African cricket to not only ratify their mistake but also render an apology for hurting the Indian sentiments. @OfficialCSA get d INDIAN MAP right.. A couple of years back, Hardik Pandya was hailed as one of the best all-rounders in world cricket. But ever since he underwent the surgery to treat his lower back in 2019, the Baroda all-rounder hasn’t been the same. In the last two years, the hard-hitting all-rounder has made more headlines for his lack of fitness and off-field controversies than his on-field performances. He had already lost his place in the Test team but after a disappointing T20 World Cup, the 28-year-old cricketer was dropped from the limited-overs squad as well for the home series against New Zealand. View this post on Instagram As much as we blame Hardik for his recent debacle, the national selectors were equally guilty of rushing him too early into the squad which disturbed the whole team balance and was one of the leading factors why India fared so poorly in the T20 World Cup. The selectors didn’t have the guts to accept that including him in the T20 World Cup squad was a huge mistake but the way they are dealing with his situation now is a clear indication that they have realised that they were wrong. However, it doesn’t look like they have learnt anything from their past mistakes. View this post on Instagram Having made this mistake already, everybody hoped that they would not want to take a gamble on his physical fitness anymore. But it seems like they are ready to show faith in him once again. As per a report published in InsideSport, Hardik has been advised to prove his physical fitness at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and if he manages to do that, he would be drafted straightaway into the Indian team for the South Africa tour but only for the limited-overs format. View this post on Instagram “His recovery from injury will mainly depend on rest. He should be visiting the NCA soon and we will take a call on his inclusion in South Africa tour depending on his fitness,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSports. The common consensus is that Hardik’s body is not ready to take the toll of five-day cricket as of now so there is no way he would be part of India’s Test squad for the away series in South Africa. View this post on Instagram But if he manages to prove his match fitness in time before the squad is announced, there is a high possibility that he could board the flight to South Africa, without having to prove his match form. Fitness was the major concern for Hadik but it wasn’t the only problem he had. His form was another major factor that made him a villain in the eyes of millions of Indian fans who argued that proving match fitness shouldn’t be the only criteria for him to make a comeback to the side, he should also be asked to prove his form by playing in domestic matches. View this post on Instagram If he is included without proving his match form, it would be a grave injustice to someone like Ishan Kishan, Venkatesh Iyer and other youngsters who often warm the bench despite performing in whatever limited opportunities they get. Given his fitness concerns, some people even feel that it’s time for India to look beyond Hardik and groom someone like Venkatesh Iyer with the next T20 World Cup in mind, which is less than 12 months away. Exactly ,, the team should have the fittest and In-form players only — Sanjay Kumar (@sanjaykanted) November 22, 2021Why are we acting like pandya is second coming of ben stokes or Kallis ?? Average international player. Move on — Daksh (@mufcaddict98) November 22, 2021Why should Hardik Pandya get a direct entry into the team for an overseas tour without any practice? It's not fair to others. — MS (@connectwithms) November 22, 2021Don’t take him unless he is fully fit . Can’t risk another World Cup loss . — Praneeth (@Venkatasai85) November 22, 2021And what about form. He neither fit nor in form. He should prove his fitness and form as well before inclusion — Tejas Adake (@tejas_adake) November 22, 2021Let him spend some time in Domestic Circuit and earn his spot... What rubbish is this that if he is fit he will be included? Selectors must learn from their mistakes of T20 WC... — Prasad Malpani (@CAPM174) November 22, 2021He should take Lifelong rest now We have Venky — Eminent Socialist (@wnnabesocial) November 22, 2021Better to take a rest for good 2,3 years. — Syed Osama Hashmi. (@SyedHashmi28) November 22, 2021Keep him out. Let him get hungry setting out. Too much has gone into his head of recent. Only show and pomp - no substance. — Indrajit.Ghose (@IndrajitGhose6) November 22, 2021It’s time for the selectors to learn from their past mistakes and take a tough stance against the all-rounder. By rushing his selection, they would be setting a wrong precedent which could be bad news for Indian cricket. View the full article

Bittersweet is the closest emotion that can be used to describe the photo of a father and son, that was awarded the best photo of the year at the annual Siena International Photo Awards 2021 on Saturday. The father, Munzir, is a Syrian refugee who lost his leg in a bombing in Syria’s Idlib. His son, Mustafa, the child he lovingly holds in the picture, was born without limbs. The recipient of the award is Turkish photographer, Mehmet Aslan, who christened his image ‘Hardships Of Life’. The image was taken outside Munzir and Mustafa’s home, in the Reyhanli area of the Turkish province of Hatay on the border with Syria. © Mehmet Aslan Kataoka Hideko, director of photography for Newsweek Japan and one of the judges on the panel who was moved by the image said, “The happiness of a father and son, even when a man stands on one leg, is precarious,” She continued, “My heart, briefly saved by this moment of joyful love, is overshadowed by the long and hard lives they face ahead, a great cost left by the war.” War is an easy sentiment to process for those unaffected by it. Sitting in our cosh rooms we’re largely unaware of the sufferings of people in war-torn countries. Munzir was walking through a bazaar in Idlib, Syria, when a bomb dropped, injuring him in the process. The accident cost him his right leg, and he now walks assisted by a crutch. Mustafa, aged 5, was born without lower or upper limbs due to tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare congenital disorder characterized by the absence of all limbs. In the young child’s case, his disorder was a result of the medications that his mother Zeynep had been prescribed after exposure to dangerous nerve gas used during the Syrian War. Mustafa will need special electronic prostheses in the future which, unfortunately, are not yet available in Turkey. Winners of the prestigious photography award have had their work displayed in Siena since October 23. View the full article
