From powerplay to field restrictions, cricket has witnessed several changes in the last couple of decades. Most of these changes have made life difficult for the bowlers. All this has been done in the name of spectators. To make the sport more exciting for the viewers. The batters have benefitted immensely from these regulations, leaving the bowlers to suffer. View this post on Instagram It’s no secret that modern-day cricket is heavily titled in the favour of the batters and bowlers are treated like second-class citizens. Despite all this, some people are still not satisfied with this. They often suggest radical changes to make a bowler’s life even more difficult. Former India opener Aakash Chopra, who is a famous name in the Indian broadcasting industry, made one such suggestion on the micro-blogging site. View this post on Instagram The cricketer-turned journalist, who is currently recovering from COVID-19, wrote that batters should be awarded two extra runs for dispatching the ball in excess of 100 metres. 100+ metre six should be given an 8. — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) April 3, 2022 “100+ metre six should be given an 8,” the former opener wrote on his Twitter handle. His comments came after Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Liam Livingstone smashed the biggest six of IPL 2022, hitting CSK pacer Mukesh Choudhary’s delivery for a 108-metre maximum. Liam Livingstone broke his own record for the biggest six in IPL 2022. pic.twitter.com/lue5Bn0VRj — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) April 3, 2022 The kind of bats that are being used these days, hitting a 100-plus metre six is not an anomaly anymore. Over the years, we have seen many power-hitters hitting huge maximums but awarding them extra runs would be a grave injustice to the bowler, who is at the receiving end of that shot. View this post on Instagram Taking a stand for his fellow bowlers, Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal responded to Chopra’s tweet. With utmost respect, the Haryana leggie proposed that to make things even, a batter should be declared out if he played three dot balls. Three wickets in a spell should allow the bowler to bowl an extra over also, Imagine someone trying to hit you for a 100-metre six (because it’s an 8), good chance that he’ll lose shape…risk-reward. — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) April 3, 2022 “Three dot balls should be 1 wicket bhaiya,” Chahal wrote in response to Chopra’s proposal. After Chahal’s response, the former India batter defended his stance saying that not just the batters but bowlers would also benefit if two extra runs are awarded because in order to hit a huge six, he might lose his shape and end up throwing away his wicket. View this post on Instagram “Three wickets in a spell should allow the bowler to bowl an extra over. Also, imagine someone trying to hit you for a 100-metre six (because it’s an 8), good chance that he’ll lose shape…risk-reward,” wrote the former India batter. Instead of making too many changes to the playing regulations, the governing body must work towards ensuring an even contest between bat and ball. Only then will the fans be able to enjoy the match in its full glory. View the full article

Indian Premier League (IPL) has changed the way cricket boards across the world think about their domestic cricket and it has brought a positive change across the world, as now most of the Test-playing nations have their own franchise-based league up and running. There has been a recent comparison doing the rounds on social media where Pakistan fans and Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja have been trying to compare their Pakistan Super League with the IPL, even saying that they offer more exciting and competitive cricket as compared to the Indian franchise-based league. PCB chairman Ramiz Raja plans to move the PSL to an IPL style auction format to replace the current draft system. What are your thoughts? pic.twitter.com/oSuR4i7rMG — Wisden India (@WisdenIndia) March 15, 2022 Echoing PCB chief’s words, Pakistani journalist Arfa Feroz Zake took to Twitter to state that PSL grew in an era where other countries too had their respective leagues and added that IPL grew only because there was no competition. "No comparison between PSL and IPL! PSL started in 2016 while IPL was inaugurated in 2008. However one has to admit PSL gained worldwide popularity more quicker in an era when other boards had introduced their leagues too whereas there was no competitor in the market when IPL was born," he tweeted. Virat Kohli has had a long lean patch with the bat that you do not normally associate with such a quality cricketer. The India Test skipper last scored a century in international cricket back in 2019 and with a string of low scores in the last couple of years, he has been subjected to harsh criticism from fans as well as a few cricket pundits. Kohli has been struggling with his form and to top it all, he missed out on playing on one of his favourites grounds around the world -- Wanderers due to a back spasm issue. day .. pic.twitter.com/kV3tbqlQdp — Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) December 23, 2021 Everything that can go wrong, seems to go wrong for the India Test skipper at the moment. After an average year with the bat in 2021, Kohli missed the first Test match of 2022, clearly not the ideal way of how he would've wanted the year to begin. To top it all, India missed his aggression and energy on the field as they lost a Test match in Johannesburg for the very first time. An Australian broadcaster took to Twitter to claim that fast-bowler Mitchell Starc has better batting average than Kohli, since the start of 2019. While Kohli averages 37.17, Starc, who played a cameo for Australia on Thursday, enjoys a batting average of 38.63. The anticipation around the India-Pakistan clash has been brewing ever since the fixture was announced in July earlier this year. For players it is just like any other game but for fans this one match is even more important than winning the whole tournament. © Reuters It’s been more than a decade and half since both these sides faced each other for the first time in this tournament but so far only Men In Blue know what a victory tastes like. Not just the T20 World Cup, India have a perfect record against their bitter-rivals in the ODI World Cup as well. The reason why India have fared well against their arch-rivals in the multi-nation tournament, especially the World Cup is because rather than making big statements, they always focus on going into the match well-prepared. © Reuters Ahead of every major tournament, the Pakistani media tries to create an atmosphere by making tall claims. Their former players instead of highlighting their own team’s strengths are more focused on pulling the Indian team down by making vague comments. All this build-up creates a huge pressure on their side which their players fail to cope up with. Not learning from their mistakes, a Pakistani news anchor claimed that this year Babar Azam’s side is going to change the date and break the jinx, which has plagued their side for so many years, and register their first World Cup win over India. intl. matches intl. runs Only #TeamIndia cricketer with two Test triple tons Second batsman to score an ODI double hundred World T20 & World Cup-winner Here's wishing @virendersehwag a very happy birthday. pic.twitter.com/kBVgNvhJFf — BCCI (@BCCI) October 20, 2021 Former India opener Virender Sehwag, who turned 43 Wednesday, shut the Pakistani anchor down with a strong response. The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ reminded the Pak journalist that every year their media gives huge statements but after the match they are left hiding their faces. “India are always under less pressure in this fixture because we are usually in a good position in comparison to Pakistan in World Cups. There are always some big statements from the Pakistani side like he [Pakistani news anchor] said at the starting of his show that 'We are going to change the date'. India never says such things because they go better prepared. And when you go better prepared, you already know what the result would be,” Sehwag said on ABP News. “We are hearing the same thing for the past so many years. And the buildup is always the same that it's a huge game and it is. This topic is always in the discussion that Pakistan haven’t won a match against India in the World Cup and the debate about whether they can win this time is the same too,” he added. © Twitter BCCI Sehwag was confident in Indian players’ abilities but at the same time he also knew that if there was one format where Pakistan can challenge India than it’s T20 cricket because this is the format where a player’s individual brilliance can make the difference. “But if we talk about the current scenario and this format then I think this is where Pakistan always has more chances because they might not play that well in the longer 50-over format. In this format, even one player can defeat any team. But still, Pakistan hasn't been able to do that, we'll see what happens on the 24th,” he explained. © Reuters All this build-up will take a backseat once the players from both the teams take the field at the Dubai International Stadium on October 24. As far as form is concerned, Virat Kohli’s men will be entering the match as outright favourites having beaten England and Australia in their two warm-up matches. in for #TeamIndia! MS Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings with great aplomb in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but his batting has been rather disappointing. Throughout this season, the CSK skipper has looked a shadow of himself whenever he has walked out to bat and fans have now started asking how long he will keep on playing like this. © Twitter/IPL The 40-year-old skipper has scored only 96 runs in 14 league games, with 18 being his top score, and based on his batting alone he would struggle to make it to the playing XI of any IPL franchise. For CSK, however, Dhoni is irreplaceable because his understanding of the game is second to none and he has proven that his decision-making is still top-notch. But some people strongly believe that unless he contributes with the bat, he doesn’t deserve to be in the playing XI of a top team like CSK. © Twitter/IPL One such fan, who doesn’t think highly of Dhoni anymore, took to the micro-blogging site and complained about the CSK leader’s poor form in a humorous manner. Tagging Swiggy Cares -- the official support handle of an online food delivery platform, the fan wrote that he was trying to order MS Dhoni from Instamart but was constantly getting the error code saying “unfortunately MS Dhoni is finished”. "Unfortunately they don't make Legends like MSD anymore " — Swiggy Cares (@SwiggyCares) October 6, 2021 “Hello @SwiggyCares I was trying to order Ms Dhoni from Instamart but I keep getting the message "Unfortunately Ms Dhoni is Finished". Can you sort this out please?” wrote one user. The person managing Swigggy Cares’ Twitter handle shut him down with a savage reply saying that players like Dhoni are once in a lifetime talent and it’s hard to find anyone like them. “Unfortunately they don't make Legends like MSD anymore,” the food delivery platform replied. © Twitter/Chennai Super Kings The former India skipper might not be the same batter that he once was but the countless memories that he has given are still fresh in the minds of every Indian cricket fan. Whether it be guiding a young and inexperienced team to the inaugural World T20 title or ending India’s 28-year long drought for an ODI World Cup with a six, these visuals hold a special place in the hearts of every cricket fan in the country. © Twitter/Chennai Super Kings Everybody knows Dhoni doesn’t have much cricket left in him and instead of criticising him, we should enjoy his presence while we can. Known for her strong comebacks to trolls, Taapsee Pannu has not disappointed us as she has again responded to a troll comparing her physical transformation to a 'mard ki body' on Twitter. After a tabloid published a photo of her with the title "Guess who?" a Twitter user claimed that only Taapsee Pannu could have such a macho figure, writing: "Ye mard ki body wali sirf Taapsee hi ho sakti hai." © Twitter Taapsee didn’t take any offense to it and sportingly responded to the troll. She tweeted, “All I will say is... Just remember this line and wait for September 23. And advance mein THANK YOU, I really worked hard for this compliment." The picture in question is from her upcoming movie Rashmi Rocket. © Taapsee Pannu Twitter It was a sassy response but it hasn’t gone down too well with social media users. People felt that the comparison to a ‘Mard’ is not a compliment but indeed a sexist remark. © Taapsee Pannu Twitter © Taapsee Pannu Twitter © Taapsee Pannu Twitter © Taapsee Pannu Twitter © Taapsee Pannu Twitter In a recent interview with The News Minute, Taapsee said that she does not really respond to trolls anymore. “I ignore most trolls because most are bots or unleashed in a coordinated campaign. They have nothing substantial to offer and get triggered when you are successful. It gets amusing to watch. They call me jobless when I don’t have time to take up a film till 2023. But, I’m way too secure to react to that,” she said. View this post on Instagram Previously, in an interview with SpotboyE, Taapsee had mentioned that her family members get affected by the trolls. “Somewhere, my voice counts. I guess I do command a certain power and influence. That’s why they want to shut me down. I don’t get triggered easily. When I do, I don’t stoop down to the level of the troll. I will never lose my dignity in replying. That’s the basic difference between me and the troll,” she said. Talking about Rashmi Rocket, the film is set in Kutch, Gujarat, and stars Pannu in the title role of a gifted athlete. According to the synopsis, “The story follows the tale of ‘rocket’ who finally gets the chance to realize her dream and compete professionally, only to realize that the race to the finish line is peppered with many hurdles. A lot of men struggle with facial hair and not everyone can grow a beard. Some end up having patchy and whisky beards till they are in their late 30s and it’s just normal and natural. However, not being able to grow a beard doesn’t mean you are any less of a man. While a number of men go through this, those in the limelight suffer the wrath of trolls for trivial things like these every day. For example, Tiger Shroff. © Instagram/Tiger Shroff Ever since the actor made his debut in Bollywood, he has been trolled for not having facial hair. Many even pointed out that he didn’t look like Jackie Shroff’s son because he sported the macho look with a glorious moustache, beard and even chest hair back in his day. © Instagram/Jackie Shroff In a recent interview with TOI, Jackie Shroff responded to the comparison and trolls his son faced with the sassiest reply. He said just because he is his son, it doesn’t mean that he will be born with a beard. © Hotstar “About this whole macho-macho comparison, he is young. He is still growing. He is a cub for God’s sake and he is getting there. Also, I am glad that he does not look like what people expect him to. Matlab Jackie ka bachcha hai toh daadhi ke saath hi pait se bahar aayega kya (Did people expect him to be born with a beard just because he is my son?)” he said. © Instagram/Tiger Shroff He added that his son is least bothered by the trolls and memes and is surprisingly very calm. "Being compared to Kareena...so cute. And you should see his replies to those comparisons and memes. He was cool with it. He knows his action well so he knew when he fought on-screen or danced, he looked like a Tiger. It’s tough for a guy to dance well when he is good at action. But he does both well,” Shroff added. © Instagram/Tiger Shroff A while back, Tiger Shroff had also opened up about the trolling he faced in the earlier years of his career. He said, “I was trolled for my looks. People use to say – Yeh hero hai ya heroine? Ye Jackie Dada ka beta lagta hi nahi hai,” added the actor. He further elaborated, “Just the fact that you have the power to say anything good or bad is sometimes scary.” © Instagram/Tiger Shroff That was a pretty good reply to trolls who can’t see beyond an actor’s physical appearance. Good that Tiger is unfazed about the trolling and handles it with maturity and calmness. Well, he is hailed for his fitness, dance moves and action-packed stunts and calmness. Pretty macho, we would say. View the full article

Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri has been receiving a lot of criticism for attending the book launch event before the fourth Test at The Oval. The event came under scrutiny ever since the fifth and the final Test match of the series was called off due to COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. The Ravi Shastri book launch is going to get a fair bit of scrutiny I think. On the one hand, idiotic for players & staff to mingle w public w/o any precautions. But on the other, there wasn't a strict biosecure environment. No rules strictly broken. #ENGvIND — Isabelle Westbury (@izzywestbury) September 10, 2021 Shastri was the first member from the Indian contingent to test positive for the dreaded virus and it forced the bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and physio Nitin Patel into isolation during the fourth Test. Later all three of them also returned positive samples. After the Manchester Test was cancelled, the English media assumed, among other things, that Shastri got infected at the event where his new book ‘Star Gazing: The Players in My Life’ was released and passed it to the other members inside the Indian camp. © Reuters Despite these claims being based on mere assumptions, it started doing rounds on social media and led to a huge backlash against the former India all-rounder. Ravi Shastri-Virat Kohli should be questioned harshly by @BCCI with the book launch in UK when ECB didn't acquire clearance. Its clearly a breach. Shastri and other support staff were found COVID +ve later Such carelessness on official tour#shastri #kohli #ManchesterTest pic.twitter.com/DOqs0Ahtiq — Wickets11 (@Wickets112) September 10, 2021 For the first time, Shastri has reacted to all these allegations and said he did nothing wrong by attending the event as there was no strict biobubble in place and people were free to move wherever they wanted. He further said that since the whole country was open anything could have happened at any point in time and alluded that it was only a coincidence that the Covid cases happened after the book launch event. © Reuters “The whole country (United Kingdom) is open. Anything could have happened from Test One,” Shastri told Mid-Day Rather than dwelling too much on the controversy, Shastri was mighty pleased with India’s overall performance throughout the Test series. He hailed the “unreal show of character” by the Indian players, especially when their backs were against the wall, and described the series as the “best summer of cricket” that England has seen in a long time. “It’s been the best summer of cricket England has seen in a long time, certainly from an Indian cricket team. It’s Covid times, awesome summer though. The boys were fantastic on either side of the Thames,” said the 59-year-old head coach. © Reuters “No team played in Covid times like this Indian team did in Australia and England. Just ask the experts here. Nothing has given me more job satisfaction in the game and I have been around for a bit as you would know,” he added. There is no logic behind blaming Shastri’s book launch event for the COVID-19 breakout in the Indian camp as nobody can say with full certainty that he contracted the virus there. The biggest joke is that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) didn’t put in place a strict bio-bubble and now the English media is hell bent on making Shastri the villain, blaming him for flouting the rules that never existed.
