  2. Over the years, we've seen some of the biggest names in cricket swapping their high-profile roles with the duties of the twelfth man on the field. From Virat Kohli to Steve Smith, cricketers, when not included in the playing XI, are often seen bringing drinks and other necessary refreshments to those sweating it out on the field. But, in what appears to be a first, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison happily became the waterboy during a practice game between the Prime Minister's XI and Sri Lanka at the Manuka Oval. How cool that the Prime Minister @ScottMorrisonMP comes out with the drinks at the Prime Minister's XI game in Canberra pic.twitter.com/tZzobUqivr — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) October 24, 2019 The 51-year-old was probably the first twelfth man who was serving drinks to the on-field players sporting a tie and dressed in formals. The pictures of him carrying drinks for the Prime Minister's XI were met with applause and praise on social media. @bhogleharsha So leadership doesn't come with any 'title'!!!!! Nice gesture from the Australian PM! ð pic.twitter.com/nLRqUr1tDA — ZEE. ðµð° (@iBleedGreenZEE) October 24, 2019 Batting first, the Sri Lankan team struggled to get going before eventually posting a mediocre total of 130 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Prime Minister's XI were aided by Harry Nielsen's batting masterclass, scoring a 50-ball 79. But, a batting collapse did get the hosts in a spot of bother before Fawad Ahmed guided them to a narrow one-wicket win with a ball to spare.
  3. After patiently waiting for seven days in the tournament, the Indian cricket team finally started their campaign at the ICC World Cup against South Africa in Southampton on 5th June. While the Indian fans were forced to wait to see their team in action, the late start for 'Men in Blue' at the ICC spectacle also meant that they had enough time to prepare - something that was in full display at the Rose Bowl stadium. Losing the toss, the Indian team found themselves bowling against the South African batting line-up, focussed on piling up a big score in a bid to record their first win in three games. But, it wasn't meant to be - thanks to a spectacular bowling performance by India. With Jasprit Bumrah getting his angles and seam movement to trouble the South African openers early on, everyone knew that a wicket was around the corner. While many suspected Quinton de Kock to became the first victim, it was Hashim Amla who eventually turned out to be the first scalp for Bumrah. Reuters In the fourth over, Bumrah's good length delivery, pitched just outside off, forced Amla to defend from the crease - a mistake that was eventually going to cost South Africa their first wicket. Deploying his defensive push, Amla couldn't help but edge the ball through towards the second slip where anxious Rohit Sharma got down just in time to grab it cleanly. It was a beautifully set-up dismissal where the bowler's line and length combined perfectly with the field setting, deployed in anticipation of the opposition batsman's shot. If Bumrah's early breakthrough got the Indian fans on the edge of their seats, Rohit's unique celebration after taking the catch doubled the fun on social media. 4. The 1992 World Cup champions, Pakistan, continue to remain an unpredictable brigade which is more than capable of crashing someone's party on their day. The ultimate underdogs at the ICC spectacle, Pakistan might have a fairly inexperienced squad going into the World Cup, but a mercurial side of their calibre still promises to go the distance. While the bowling has undoubtedly been their strong suit in recent times, it's Pakistan's fragile batting that was tipped as a major sign of worry going into the World Cup. And, in their opening encounter against West Indies, it was once again the irresponsible batting display by Sarfaraz Ahmed's men that got them in all sorts of trouble. Treading with caution early on, Pakistan were handed an early blow after Sheldon Cottrell dismissed opener Imam-ul-Haq (2) in the third over. Imam's opening partner Fakhar Zaman (22) looked good for a while but was eventually cleaned up by Andre Russell in the sixth over. Russell returned to haunt Pakistan again when he sent Haris Sohail (8) packing in the 10th over. © Reuters With their team reeling at 45/3, Pakistan desperately needed a partnership to get back on track and the likes of Babar Azam (22) and captain Sarfaraz (8) appeared like the perfect candidates to get them out of trouble. But, it wasn't meant to be. While Azam's lazy waft outside the off-stump led to his demise, Sarfaraz failed miserably in what would've been an easy tickle down to fine leg. With two of their batting mainstays back in the hut, Pakistan had no option but to seek stability from veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez (16) who tried to hold fort at one end, but couldn't save the disaster at the other. As he stood helplessly at the non-striker's end, Pakistan lost three wickets - Imad Wasim (1), Shadab Khan (0) and Hasan Ali (1) - for a mere four runs. © Reuters Hafeez's resistance finally gave in when his efforts of thwarting Thomas's searing bouncer led to simple catch for Cottrell at fine leg in the 20th over. Wahab Riaz was the final nail in the coffin for Pakistan as Thomas picked his fourth wicket to put Pakistan out of their misery in the 22nd over. With Windies pace battery wreaking havoc - Thomas (4-27) and Holder (3-42), Pakistan were bowled out for a mere 105 runs - their second-lowest total in World Cup history. During the World Cup opener between England and South Africa, Matthew Hayden - who was commentating during that game - had predicted Pakistan to finish just above Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the ongoing tournament. While his fellow commentators including Dean Jones, questioned his decision to place Pakistan at such a lowly-spot, the dismal batting show by Sarfaraz's team has surely bolstered Hayden's claims. This is typical Pakistan ... 5. The internet can truly be a weird place at times. No seriously, it's true. A few months ago, people were getting out of their moving cars and even planes to dance to a song. Now, youngsters are uploading selfies with cockroaches as a part of the ongoing #CockroachChallenge. What? Yes, it is just as messed up as it sounds. People are literally taking selfies with the creepy crawlers on their faces. That's right, ON THEIR FACES! This messed up obsession started when a Facebook user named Alex Aung from Myanmar posted a picture with a cockroach on his face last month. He captioned it asking if others can do it? Well, there you go. That's how you start a new trend, folks. Alex posted the picture on Facebook on April 20, and it now has close to 6,000 likes and close to 20,000 people have shared it. Even if it wasn't intentional, his post clearly went viral on social media and it literally started a new trend. Soon after he posted the picture, people are started commenting with their entries for the challenge in the comments. In fact, some people took it upon themselves to find creative ways to get attention. Like this picture of a girl who's swallowing a cockroach instead of putting it on her face. Like, what even? What started off as a trend on Facebook, now seems to have extended to Twitter as well. Youngsters from Myanmar, Philippines and Indonesia are the ones who seem to be taking a lot of interest in taking up the challenge. Did somebody told them how stupid they look in the pictures? #cockroachchallenge #kecoachallenge ð» pic.twitter.com/qzORVWKyYt — hugable! ð» (@yourxhxxxn) April 28, 2019 We're not even going to share anymore pictures of the challenge. They're very creepy. Just look up #CockroachChallenge on Facebook or Twitter if you want to see them for some weird reason. That being said, it's worth pointing out that Cockroach challenge is just as dangerous as Kiki challenge, if not more. PestWorld.org noted that the cockroach feces, saliva, etc. contains certain proteins that can cause allergic reactions or trigger asthma-related symptoms. So, besides looking like an idoit, you're also putting yourself in some serious danger by taking up this challenge.
  6. Yesterday was one of the most memorable days for all the class XII students of the CBSE board. If you ask me, it was a 'Throwback Thursday' for half the people of this country, because once the results were declared, all of us wanted to 'throwback' our own marksheets in some box and bury it in a place where no can find it. THANK GOD, we are not a part of this crazy competition anymore. © Twitter But, first let's take this opportunity to congratulate Hansika Shukla and Karishma Arora, who became the joint toppers of the CBSE class 12 exams by scoring 499 marks out of 500. 17-year-old Hansika Shukla, a Humanities student scored 100 in Political Science, Psychology, History and Hindustani Vocals, and 99 in English. If the fact that she scored 499 out 500 wasn't insane enough, her reasoning for losing one mark pretty much summed up the whole thing. © Twitter Blaming social media for distracting her, Hansika said, "If I would have concentrated more on studies, apart from whatever time I have wasted in doing online chat or playing games, I may not have missed a mark in English." It's still unbelievable that she just missed ONE mark. I was pretty happy with 70%, but today's kids are unhappy despite scoring 98% or 99%. © Twitter Hansika, who wants to pursue Psychology from DU and aims to become an IAS or IFS officer, further said, "There is no time limit and pressure to get success. I go through the books and school notes to prepare for the examination. The NCERT books and study materials are enough and there is no need to confuse yourself by studying other materials available online." While we are proud of Hansika and all the class 12 students, Twitter is busy investigating about that missing one mark. Got 99.8% in CBSE boards.. Not at all happy. With @cbseindia29 why you give me 499/500?? 7. The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been full of excitement. From blistering knocks, majestic bowling spells to electric fielding efforts, the 2019 season has had it all. But, there's another so-called tradition that has been noticed this year. We don't know how or from where it began, but, every time a bowler produces an expensive spell this season, the term 'Dinda Academy' seems to start doing the rounds on the social media. Often, cricket fans have been seen trolling the bowlers who've struggled with the ball by comparing them with Ashoke Dinda while claiming that they're the products of the 'Dinda Academy'. © Twitter Dinda has had a fruitful career in domestic cricket, most notably in the Ranji Trophy, where he played for Bengal. The right-arm seamer has also played nearly 80 matches in the IPL where he has been a part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Daredevils (DD), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in the past. While he hasn't been part of any franchise, Dinda's name continues to be used to highlight the poor outing of a bowler this season. Following RCB's 17-run win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on 24th April, the Bengaluru-based franchise tried to troll their seamer Umesh Yadav's critics by tweeting: "Dinda academy? What's that?". © Twitter After failing to defend 26 runs off the final over in the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 21st April, cricket fans came down hard on Umesh and labelled him as the latest addition to the 'Dinda Academy'. But, Umesh's improved performance against Punjab, where he took three wickets, instigated RCB to take a dig at the trolls. As some of you pointed out, the previous version of this tweet was in bad taste. However, for all of you who have relentlessly trolled this lad, he said #challengeAccepted and bowled his heart out! 4-0-36-3, 15 off his last two overs & 2 wickets in those! #PlayBold #RCBvKXIP pic.twitter.com/sLDnLRtlcf — Royal Challengers (@RCBTweets) 24 April 2019 While RCB's official Twitter handle deleted the tweet soon after attracting backlash from fans, Dinda, in particular, was so frustrated that he minced no words while slamming the management for being "irresponsible". Sharing an emotional message on Twitter, Dinda claimed that he considered RCB as his home when he was playing for them and has high regard for Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. I personally have no hard feelings for anyone and have always had a fondness for the team for legends like â¦â¦â¦@imVkohliâ© , â¦@ABdeVilliers17â© , â¦@henrygayleâ© and also since I had once called it home. You are surely answerable â¦@RCBTweetsâ© pic.twitter.com/qGKEIAhhIT — Ashoke Dinda (@dindaashoke) 28 April 2019 His tweet also carried a rant aimed towards the social media trolls and RCB who seem to have hurt his sentiments. "Following this tweet from RCB I faced a lot of criticism. I didn't felt the need to react. Things aggravated people started abusing my family, using filthy languages for my daughter and wife. Such lewd comment no father could have tolerated. This makes me wonder where we as a society are headed. But my question is how can RCB being franchise be so irresponsible and post anything against any player? I would like to add here: I am among the decent T20 bowlers according to stats to have represented the franchise," his message read. Dinda's tweet struck a chord with the IPL fans who showered their love and support on the social media. Now you know why RCB fail miserably every season even though they have super stars ðð.. don't bother about their words brother enjoy ur game.. ur two good games will shut all haters.. sad part of cricket is bowlers r blamed so easily compared to batsmen ðð» — Telugodu (@AndhraTelugodu) 28 April 2019 That's why RCB is at bottom of the table ð We support you Dinda ðð®ð³ — Singghh (@Singh_iz_Kingh) 28 April 2019 @RCBTweets please have some common sense. More power to you Champion @dindaashoke — Selvam (@AGR_Selvam) 28 April 2019 Rcb academy ?? What's that ??ðð Its 10th time playoff qualification for csk ð — Thanushkar (@Thanushkar19) 28 April 2019 We MSDian Support You, @dindaashoke ðð — Sanjay Msd (@SanjayMsd07) 28 April 2019 Shame on you @RCBTweets ! You guys need to apologize... — JATIN (@Alias_jatin) 28 April 2019 Sports isn't a easy place to be. As a sportsperson, You've good days. You've bad days. You've good years. You've bad years. 9. “Show us pictures or it didn't happen!” We're pretty sure this is something we all have said to our friends at some point or the other. Like, seriously. You went to Coachella and if you didn't upload at least 100 stories and pictures on your Instagram, then did you really even go? But hey, pictures can be deceiving sometimes, and influencers like Gabbie Hanna are here to prove it time and again. She decided to do a little experiment and faked a weekend at Coachella using, well, Photoshop. She also used footage from friends who actually did go to the festival. Better yet, she also made a YouTube video explaining why she pulled off this stunt. She was apparently inspired by other YouTubers who have faked their trips before. But one of the main reasons why she did this in the first place was to prove just how easy it is to lie on social media. As you can see in the video, she hired a photographer to click pretty pictures of her. Instead of spending time at Coachella, she booked an Airbnb and spent her weekend there taking pictures. You can check out all her pictures on her Instagram, the captions of which have now been changed to say, “Oops, I faked it!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by GABBIE HANNA (@gabbiehanna) on Apr 21, 2019 at 2:44pm PDT Hanna goes on to talk about how social media, for most people, has become a platform to post highly curated and manipulated pictures of them having fun. She warns her followers to be careful about what you see online and not get caught up in the hype.
  10. We are at a loss of words following the coordinated series of deadly terror attacks in Sri Lanka that ripped through some churches and hotels, killing and injuring hundreds of people. Well, you know what happens when a nation gets hit with terror attacks? Spread of misinformation, violence, and God knows what else. Well, it's not happening in this case, as the Sri Lankan officials blocked several social media networks, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Viber, YouTube, and more. It was done over concerns that the attacks would trigger waves of misinformation, violence and hate speech. © Reuters Presidential advisor Harindra Dassanayake told The New York Times that the decision to block access to social media sites was a “unilateral decision”. As of now, it's not entirely clear as to when this ban will be lifted, but it does make a lot of sense since most of the panicking often happens on or after reading dozens of articles spreading fake news on social media platforms. The move to ban social media, however, isn't unprecedented. Sri Lanka itself issued a temporary ban on social media sites after the riots fueled by Facebook misinformation spread. In fact, we've seen something similar in India too, and networks like Facebook and WhatsApp were blocked in the wake of riots. © Reuters But is the ban really helping? Well, there's no way to tell, but resorting to such measures does make sense since a lot of countries do struggle with viral and violent misinformation spread on social media during such events.
  11. As smartphones and mobile data have become both cheaper and faster, Indians have started chugging data like never before. From watching Netflix in public to churning out TikTok videos, there's an influx in internet usage in the past few years. Now according to McKinsey's latest report on Indian online trends, Indians are spending the highest amount of time on social media in the world. Yes, in the WORLD! © McKinsey The report noted that Indians spend more time on social media than online users in China or the US. Apparently, Indians are spending about 17 hours per week on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others. It's a world record, which we think, has been set due to access to affordable smartphones and cheap cellular data (read: Jio) . India is also just behind China when it comes to app downloads. As you can see in the report, over 12.3 billion smartphone apps have been downloaded by Indians in 2018. © Pexels After Indonesia, India is said to be digitizing faster than every other mature and emerging economy across 30 dimensions of digital adoption since 2014. McKinsey's report is extremely detailed, and it talks about a lot of other accomplishments of India in the digital space. Check out McKinsey's report right here.
  12. Voting is an integral right that every individual should exercise. With the 2019 Lok Sabha elections knocking on our doorsteps, looks like not just the Indian voters but even the ones living abroad don't want to miss their chance. Joystan Lobo is one such voter, who hails from Mangaluru and is currently living in Muscat, Oman. Recently, Joystan shared a video to flaunt the flight tickets he booked and let the whole world know about him coming home to cast vote. In the video, he openly spoke in support of a party candidate and wanted to encourage his friends and those watching the video to go and cast their vote. Reuters While Joystan was busy flaunting his Air India flight ticket, someone was busy noting down the details from the video and secretly cancelled it. Yes, you read it right! Someone accessed his PNR details and cancelled the tickets that the poor chap had booked in March, causing him a loss of money. BCCL According to DaijiWorld, "One of his friends settled at Puttur streamed this video through WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media. Within two hours from then, the ticket was cancelled without the knowledge of Joystan." Lobo said that he paid over Rs. 21,000 for his round-trip but got a refund of only Rs. 9000. However, this incident didn't stop him from casting his vote in time. Pexels He told a news website, "I was unaware about the cancellation of ticket. Ticket was cancelled on March 30 at around 11:15 am (Oman time). I came to know about the cancellation of the ticket on April 1. I rebooked the ticket on the same day for April 4 and reached India,” Lobo told the news website. Technology is undoubtedly a boon, but if you don't deal with it carefully then it can also become a bane. Sometimes your over-excitement or enthusiasm can land you in trouble, just like what happened with Joystan.
  13. In a move that surprised many, British cosmetics firm Lush has chosen to quit social media. With a combined following across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, Lush has a combined audience of over 1.2 million followers. Lush are being a little cryptic about its reasons but cite having to pay for visibility and getting tired of trying to produce content so just that algorithms will rank it highly. "Increasingly, social media is making it harder and harder for us to talk to each other directly. We are tired of fighting with algorithms, and we do not want to pay to appear in your newsfeed. So we’ve decided it’s time to bid farewell to some of our social channels and open up the conversation between you and us instead." It feels like sacrilege for a brand to come off social media, but I'm not surprised. Social media is about broadcasting more than it is about meaningful conversation. And now, even with a huge following, broadcasting doesn't get the same reach it did a few years ago with platforms pushing paid options more and more. Lush also targets a very young demographic that simply aren't using social media anymore. The firm said it was "cutting out the middleman between ourselves and the Lush community". It remains unclear which direction Lush is going to take to facilitate conversations, but using an independent community platform like Invision Community should be considered. It cuts out any algorithm biased, money hungry platform. It opens up the conversation between the brand and its customers in a meaningful way, and the brand is completely in control of their data and what their customers see. At Invision Community, we're seeing more and more brands looking for a solution outside of social media. Perhaps this will accelerate the trend.

  15. At a time when kids around us are losing their touch with innocence and almost constantly fighting a losing battle to seize the good ol' times of undiluted childishness that we attached to young kids, all thanks to the skewed influences brought in by the idiot box and social media, there has emerged a “woke” and “humane” young mind which has sent netizens into a frenzy. A Twitter user recently shared a photo of a math answer sheet that belongs to a class 7 student, and the student and his answer have since gone viral on social media for the “humane” and hatke approach to the math problem. It is a Maths question. But look at the last line. This student is thinking beyond arithmetic. As can be seen in the shared picture of the answer sheet, the question gives the amount a woman earns over a span of 15 months, which comes to Rs. 18,000. On further inspection, it can be seen that the student has also calculated the woman's earnings in a month, seven months, as well as the amount of time it would take her to earn Rs. 30,000. © Thinkstock/Getty Images We presume that the calculations and the conclusive answer were correct, but that isn't what has won a million hearts online. The student's end remark is what that did it! The kid has concluded his answer with a remark that reads “This woman worker is underpaid”, and it is this awareness, empathy and sensitivity of the class 7 student that the netizens are lauding, and rightly so. © Thinkstock/Getty Images It is good to see that young minds are still thinking loud and clear, despite all the external noise that is constantly trying to distract them. The student has not only made his/her teacher and parents proud but has also given us a sense of hope for our future as an empathetic and caring society. 16. It takes 20 years to build a reputation and just five minutes to ruin it, said a wise man once. This aphorism holds great meaning in the world of modern-day sport for umpires and referees, especially with the increasing advent of technology. A few weeks ago, we witnessed an incident in the quarter-finals of a Ranji match, played between Saurashtra and Karnataka, where Team India's Test batting stalwart Cheteshwar Pujara was not given an out, even after getting a healthy edge. And today, yet another blunder was committed, but this time by a higher authority, the third umpire. This incident took place in the second T20I between New Zealand and India, which is currently going on in Auckland. After losing two wickets by the sixth over, the Kiwis, batting first, were banking on Daryl Mitchell. Check out "Umpire Blunder! How Was That Out?" on Hotstar!https://t.co/cFYBT4j0KF — Abhay (@AbhaySharma_1) February 8, 2019 He was declared out LBW by umpire Chris Brown off Krunal Pandya's bowling. In response, Mitchell, confident of edging the ball, straight away went for a review. But, to the horror of Mitchell and the utter surprise of cricket fans world over, third umpire Shaun Haig ruled the Kiwi batsman out, despite the hotspot indicating a mark on his bat. Both Mitchell and his partner at the other end, Kane Williamson, were in complete shock and instantly condemned the decision. Even after taking his plea to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, the 27-year-old had to return to the pavilion. In the digital age where the introduction of technology in sports was supposed to overcome human error, the latest howler at the Eden Park goes on to show that technology is of little use, unless used properly. Cricket fans took to social media to slam the umpire for this amateur error. Who's third umpire ?? 17. In the world of cricket, there's nothing better than the batsmen producing the sweet sound of the bat after hitting the ball in the middle and the bowlers sending the stumps cart-wheeling across the ground. And, the first Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and New Zealand in Wellington produced both of those things. The thunderous strokes of Tim Seifert had the entire Indian bowling running for cover early on. The 24-year-old, smashing a 43-ball 84, powered the hosts to a mammoth total of 219 and ensured the opposition bowlers couldn't catch a break. © Twitter If the youngster's brilliant batting display impressed the fans, Lockie Ferguson's speed and accuracy with the ball had the social media buzzing. The 27-year-old didn't get a chance to bat, but during India's run-chase, Ferguson played a key role for his side. Even before coming into the attack, Ferguson made his presence felt through a spectacular fielding effort that cut short Rohit Sharma's stay at the crease. Covering significant ground from deep square leg, Ferguson dived forward to pull off a brilliant catch that gave the hosts an early breakthrough. Woah. 150.8km Yorker by Ferguson #NZvIND #T20 @BLACKCAPS pic.twitter.com/TUaggsrXMN — Bas Bolyn (@basbolyn) February 6, 2019 But, Ferguson's best came in the sixth over when he sent Shikhar Dhawan packing. The Indian opener was looking in ominous form and he had just smashed a boundary after slicing the ball over backward point. But, Dhawan had no answer for the next delivery. Exacting revenge, Ferguson bowled a searing 151 kmph, toe-crushing yorker that castled the stumps, much before Dhawan could react or do anything about it. The right-arm seamer struck again in the 18th over to dismiss Bhuvneshwar Kumar and finished his spell with impressive figures of 2-22 to help his side win the match by 80 runs, but his dismissal of Dhawan was arguably the one that struck a chord with cricket fans who were left in awe of the Kiwi paceman. 18. In the ever-changing spheres of life, people encounter multiple challenges to eventually realise their elusive dreams. While persistent hardwork and sheer will to succeed are bound to aid the cause, the idea is to keep pushing, one hurdle after another, till you've reached the destination. But, the life of a celebrity is not that easy. While the challenges remain the same, the fact that they are always under media scrutiny with a million eyeballs watching their every move, further make theirs a difficult task. But, even for them, the mantra remains the same: when life pushes you down to the ground, make sure you get back up stronger and more determined. Embodying the same spirit, Hardik Pandya appears to be tackling the demons of his past with complete focus on the only thing that matters to him - cricket. Twitter Suspended for his objectionable remarks on a popular chat show, the Baroda cricketer has marked a sensational return to the field. Making most of his time on the field, the Indian all-rounder delivered impressive figures of 2-45 in 10 overs in the third ODI against New Zealand, reminding everyone that he's better than how he has been perceived lately. But, Pandya wasn't done yet. Continuing his fine form, Pandya, once again, took the centre stage when he came out to bat after Ambati Rayudu's dismissal in the fifth and final ODI against the Kiwis in Wellington on 3rd February. Hat trick sixes by Hardik Pandya pic.twitter.com/kPI1lg7FMP — MS (@premchoprafan) 3 February 2019 Showcasing his hitting abilities, the 25-year-old whacked leggie Todd Astle for three consecutive sixes in the 47th over. He didn't even spare the in-form speedster Trent Boult, deploying a mighty pull to send the ball sailing over the fence for another maximum. Contributing towards his team's cause, Pandya stroked a 22-ball 45 - including two fours and five sixes - to power India to a 252-run total. Three sixes in a row for Pandya. He loves doing this hat-trick against the spinners. Think it's the fourth time he's done that — Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) 3 February 2019 It was also the fourth time (in ODIs) and fifth (across formats) that Pandya had smashed an opposition bowler for three consecutive sixes across formats. New Zealand's Todd Astle was the fifth bowler to endure Pandya's wrath with the willow, joining the likes of Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Malinda Pushpakumara and Adam Zampa. The only other batsman to achieve the feat four times (in ODIs) in the last two decades is AB de Villiers. For a man who was until recently branded as India's 'Public Enemy No. 1', Pandya - with his blazing knock - had the cricket fans singing his praise on the social media. 19. #LivingItTheWrongWay Why do we feel the constant need to show everyone how 'perfect' our life is? What has happened to the good old concept of “keeping it private?” Why does every great night become our Instagram story? And the nights which are not-so-great, why do we need to make them perfect by using filters? Social media has become the platform which feeds our ego. From morning coffee to evening whiskey, we post every detail like Jack Daniel's would taste like Royal Stag if we don't post its picture online. I get it, once in a while, it's good to let your friends and closed ones know that you're enjoying your life in the way you want. But haven't we gone overboard with it? Posting gym selfies and 'cheers' boomerangs every day have apparently become the new 'in'. We have become so hollow that we need constant validation from our followers to know that we're living a good life! Social media now is a race of likes and shares. It has become a stage where people compete silently about who's living a better life. Envy, jealousy, superficial intellect, and all such things are the product of misuse of social media and are everything that is wrong with our generation. Can you remember the last time you just sat with your friends, had a good time, and didn't post it on the internet? Can't we be happy offline anymore? It might be okay to use social media as a travel journal or to post the highlights of our life. It sure creates memories. But posting fake candid and airport check-ins reflect how attention starving we have become! The world is now an “if you didn't post it, it didn't happen” kind of a thing. It was quite ironic when people who post every minute detail of their life blamed Mark Zuckerberg for invading their privacy. Sure, there is also good stuff out there on the social media platforms. Motivational videos, funny memes, poetry, proses, and every such thing for which social media should be used. But somehow, we have made it just about ourselves. And it has come to a point where it is becoming annoying. Annoying because we think showing off a Starbucks coffee cup and MacBook in one frame is cool. Maybe, once in a blue moon, it is. That too, if you're an amazingly good photographer. But posting it every Monday with the hashtag #mondayblues is most definitely annoying. Can't we try and make our life a little private? Every good evening doesn't need to be posted. Every good moment doesn't need to be clicked. Every relationship doesn't need a #TwoMonthAnniversary hashtag. Live for yourself, not for your followers, and most certainly not for your virtual ego. Life becomes better when you involve fewer people in it!
  20. In the era where the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were leaving everyone behind, Novak Djokovic undoubtedly stepped up his game to give the proven stars a run for their money and stake claim as one of the modern-day greats. His consistent performances on the big stage also helped him forge a partnership with Nadal and Federer as tennis' 'Big Three'. But, apart from running past opponents with his aggressive baseline play, the Serbian star has also struck a chord with tennis fans with his sense of humour. Staying true to his nickname 'Djoker', the 31-year-old continues to be an exciting prospect for his antics both on and off the field. © Reuters His pun and wit were once again in full display during a media interaction following his Australian Open triumph over Nadal in the final. Justifying his World No. 1 ranking, Djokovic proved to be too good for his Spanish counterpart, securing a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win in the all-important clash at the Rod Laver Arena. After winning his 15th Grand Slam title, a joyous Djokovic sent the press into hysterics by imitating an Italian journalist during the post-match media interaction. The Italian journalist was curious about Djokovic's thoughts on his record Australian Open haul. But, before the poor journo could complete his question, the Serbian interrupted midway to pull off a hilarious Italian accent while mocking him. .@DjokerNole sent the press into hysterics ð¤£#AusOpen pic.twitter.com/7blHxlDfHM — #AusOpen (@AustralianOpen) January 27, 2019 “Novak, congratulations. 21. Ever since joining the Reds from Roma in 2017, Mohamed Salah has become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp's rampant Liverpool brigade. Arriving at the Anfield for 50 million euros, the Egyptian footballer justified his price tag with a sensational run last season. With 30 goals to his name, Salah was awarded the Golden Boot and was eventually named PFA Players' Player of the Year in the 2017/18 season. Thanks to his dribbling skills, speed and ball control, Salah raked in goal after goal and played a crucial role in propelling Liverpool to the Champions League final last year. His goal-scoring might have come down a notch this season, but Salah continues to be a key ingredient in the Reds' charge for the title. ð @MoSalah in the @premierleague: ð 72 Games â½ 50 Goals A different class. ð pic.twitter.com/bdx4nomLkb — Liverpool FC (@LFC) January 20, 2019 But, for a man who is loved and cherished by Liverpool fans as much as he is back home in Egypt, Salah shocked everyone after going offline on the social media recently. The 26-year-old, who enjoys a great fan-following, appeared to have deleted all of his social media accounts where his followers numbered in the millions. The Egyptian's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts went offline without warning a day after he posted a cryptic tweet. "2019 Resolution: Time to get in touch, for real," read the final tweet of the Premier League footballer which was later shared widely on the social media platforms. When people tried to go through his Twitter account, they could only see the message: "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!". On Instagram, it said: "The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed". The story was pretty much the same on Facebook. While it's still not clear whether the shutdowns were deliberate or not, and what exactly provoked the Liverpool forward to go offline. Some believe that Salah deleted his accounts owing to a dispute he has had with the Egyptian Football Association over his image rights. Others the footballer's trail and saw it as a possible New Year's resolution. But, despite all the speculation, Salah's sudden disappearance from the social media can also be looked upon as one of the best moves to raise awareness for the real-life communications. In the modern world, everything is digital - sharing information, knowledge and even building relationships. While it allowed us to reach larger masses, it also killed our need for human interactions - something Salah is probably trying to convey here. 22. As per the latest research by global gurus, passion has emerged as a necessary ingredient for daily subsistence. An extension of this Biblical gospel is the emergence of having a particular hobby as the central tenet for human survival. In biological terms, a hobby is the new kidney. You need a couple for proper survival! This article looks at the rise in the number of people trying to manufacture a fake kidney, sorry a fake hobby! 1. The DSLR Addict! The most common group of hobbyists are 'the DSLR addicts' who try to find natural beauty in everything; ranging from domesticated cockroaches to pig poop. This is followed up by a 300-word commentary on each picture on Instagram and personalised messages on WhatsApp. While this is bearable, it becomes creepy when 'the DSLR addict' starts taking pictures of young women in the name of candid camera, salivating over 'such a pataka'. Creep alert! 2. The Metrosexual Farmer After decades of struggling in cities, the countryside and farming seem to be making a comeback. Getting closer to mother nature is the epitome for this breed of hobbyists. Their social media feeds are filled up with pictures of cute puppies in clean looking agrarian fields with tags comprising of natural, organic, green, clean, fulfilment amidst other passion dosed phrases. Some of them are often caught trying to spot potato on the plant stem and gur on sugarcane. Wonder where the North Indian heat, the pesticides, the buffalos and the ugly tractors go? 3. The Palika Bazaar Of Cult Fit Do you have a friend who always poses with medals of having finished half marathons? Their captions tend to hover around, 'finished this race in record time' accompanied with a dozen selfies during the race. Quick question, how did you manage to finish your race in record time and manage to take so many selfies during that time? Also, why aren't you physically active on the remaining 364 days as indicated by your generous flab! A sister profile of this breed is the fake yoga guru! Beware! 4. The Great Lover Of Poverty After the rise in Xiaomi phones, philanthropy has really taken off! Everyone seems to be waking up nights trying to rake up ways to help undernourished children in sub-Saharan Africa. This breed of hobbyists loves to give back to society and hence start social media pages to garner donations for their funds. On a different note, did someone ask for a recommendation for philanthropic work for admission into an American business school? Such a kind-hearted soul! 5. The Nation Builder This group of nation builders can be summarised in a single neat sentence, 'my leader is more virile than yours'. This group of hobbyists can be characterised by excessive vitriolic, sorry passionate discussions on social media about their political leaders and their resultant nation building. This street fight multiplies disproportionately as seemingly sensible people start fighting like your mother and wife! 6. The Adventure Junkie Mankind has seen a massive adrenaline shift after the birth of Instagram. In terms of importance, the birth of Instagram has been chronicled in the annals of history along with the extinction of dinosaurs, the invention of the steam engine and World War 2. Adventures like rock climbing, para-gliding, rafting, bungee jumping, sky diving are so yesterday. The adventure junkie is always looking for the next high. The next in-thing on their list is to spend a night inside a coffin with a skeleton. Apparently, the Google Pixel phone takes excellent low light pictures! 7. The Motivator As you might be aware, India has fared very low on the happiness index. This has led to the birth of 'the motivator' whose single biggest mission is to make people realise their inner potential. To clarify, this is not the group of hobbyists that posts 'Good Morning,' 'I love you' and 'thank you' on all the family WhatsApp groups. The motivator genuinely believes in making people realise their potential; hence their social media feeds are filled up with, 'you can achieve', 'aim for the stars', 'follow your dreams', 'when the going gets tough, you get going' amidst other noble lines. As I write this, tears of gratitude are dripping down my face! 8. The Serial Entrepreneur Once seen as a huge deal breaker in securing matrimonial alliances, the tag of an entrepreneur has come a long way! In common parlance, throw a stone at someone on 100 feet road in Bangalore and you will spot a visionary entrepreneur. This group of hobbyists, who are under the inner torrential frenzy of adding value to everyone, are obsessed with changing the world and making humanity a better place! I am sorry, how many of your startups have ever made a dime in life? 9. The Cat Lover A cat has nine lives and hence it lands up on the ninth spot on this list. Once upon a time, cute pets were synonymous with the Vodafone pug. As the Indian economy has leapfrogged, cats seem to have taken centre stage. Screaming out, 'kitty kitty kitty' at restaurants is perceived to be extremely cool. This group of hobbyists indulges in putting up scintillating pictures of cat love, the success of their cats in a cat grooming race and pictures of cat manicure and pedicure! Please don't bark back at them in retaliation! 10. The Real Warren Buffett It is ironical that Warren Buffett made so much money while this group of hobbyists barely gets any publicity. This group is characterised by their know it all commentary on interest rates, stock market movement, hot picks, cool tips, lukewarm opportunities at dinner tables. It is unfortunate no one has ever asked them, 'mate, how much money have you made on your own?' In summary, there are many more such passionate groups of hobbyists; the enthusiastic historian, the artistic cake baker, the vintage dancer, the pseudo-intellectual educationist, the always right tarot card reader, etc. However, you should be careful while spilling your passion over to your immediate world. You don't want your circles to go, 'fake hobby alert'!
  23. Even after Shaun Marsh's absolute beauty of a performance, the heroics of Indian cricket team's captain, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni along with the crucial role played by wicketkeeper and batsman, Dinesh Kartik proved to be too much for the Aussies to handle as India won the second ODI to tie the series at 1-1. While Kohli's 39th career ODI century was more of a necessity than an occasion for celebration, it was Dhoni who played like he once used to, during his prime, and put on a show to stun critics both overseas and here in India who were sceptical of the inclusion of the former skipper in the ODI roster for the series Down Under and the speculations of him being a part of the 2019 ICC World Cup team instead of Rishabh Pant, as he ended the match in a great fashion with a six to tie the game and then a single to seal the victory in the final over. It all seemed to be just like any other classic win for the Men in Blue until a video of MS Dhoni taking, what is called a 'short-run', popped up on the ever-so-resourceful internet. Did anyone notice that dhoni actually didn't complete the run here? pic.twitter.com/F9KjKiFILc — neich (@neicho32) January 15, 2019 In the video, it appears as if the batsman walked across the pitch for a single but didn't touch the crease with his bat to complete the run. According to the 'Laws of Cricket' (1744) the rule to complete a 'run' requires for the batsman to touch the crease or the area behind the line. If the batsman fails to do so, the run does not count. "If either umpire considers that one or both batsmen deliberately ran short at that umpire's end, the umpire concerned shall, when the ball is dead, call and signal Short run and inform the other umpire of what has occurred,” reads the ICC rulebook. If the umpires feel that the short-run taken by the player is deliberate, they are entitled to tax the offender's team of five runs as penalty. Although, the suspected short-run taken by Dhoni looks completely nonintentional, it could have had some serious consequences, getting him run-out had the bowler realised, being one of them. Run out chance missed! — Sameer Kumar Bhoi (@ImSKBhoi) January 16, 2019 But, somehow, the on-ground umpires and even the third umpire missed the short-run completely and gave the run to Dhoni. It's the small things that matter, isn't it?

  25. While the Indian cricket team has been enjoying immense success in Australia lately, the past few months have not really been kind to the likes of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. While Pandya has been out of the fold due to his injury in September last year, Rahul has faced the wrath of fans and pundits alike for his dismal form Down Under. Following India's historic Test series win, on one hand, where Pandya must have been raring to go in the ODI series after his recovery, Rahul, too, would have been looking to prove his detractors wrong with a fine showing. But, all of those things seemed possible until last Sunday when the duo stirred up a massive controversy with their comments on popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan'. While Rahul was, somewhat, cautious in his choice of words, Pandya boasted of 'conquests' and possessions like a Desperado, with little respect to women. Following a massive uproar on the social media, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was forced into issuing a showcause notice to the duo, expecting a clarification on their conduct within 24 hours. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 After a tame apology on the social media, Pandya issued another statement where the Baroda cricketer reiterated that he will not repeat the mistake again and will be more cautious in future. But, no one was impressed. Not even the BCCI's Committee of Administrators (CoA). And, to make matters worse for the two cricketers, the CoA chief Vinod Rai has now recommended a two-ODI ban on the duo. Calling the comments by Pandya and Rahul "very crass", the CoA chief wrote an email to CEO Rahul Johri. "I have seen the remarks made by these two players on the show in print today. Very crass. No apology can cover it. I had asked Diana (CoA member Diana Edulji) to suggest penalty because I had not seen the clip. I think we need to give both of them a two-match suspension. If Diana agrees, Rahul please draft an appropriate instruction and issue today as their explanations have come in. Separately, please prepare an advisory to all BCCI contracted players and support staff," Rai claimed in the email. "I am not convinced with Hardik's explanation and I have recommended a two-match ban for both players. However the final decision will be taken once Diana gives her go ahead," Rai told PTI. On the other hand, Edulji has also referred the matter to the BCCI's legal cell. "Diana has sought legal opinion whether the duo can be banned. So, obviously a decision will be taken once she gives her nod. As far as I am concerned, the comments were crass, in bad taste and unacceptable," Rai said. © Instagram "The players must be immediately suspended pending a proper inquiry and must be allowed to join the team (if selected) only once they have gone through a proper sensitisation in addition to serving a ban, if imposed upon them," he said. "In any case the entire team and support staff must go through a sensitisation process. The CEO may join them in the sensitisation as well as recommended by Ms. Veena Gowda, Advocate," he added. While the ban is yet to be sanctioned by the BCCI, it has already got the social media buzzing with all sorts of reactions from the cricket fans across the country. Ban them for life and give them tv ðº rights because that's what they are good at,our cricketers use fame to trick ladies and think they are models rather than sports man ,as I said before in England you do not see any sport personalities on tvs or on social media's — Harry (@HarryJethw) January 10, 2019 statements damaging to the game . its important to counsel ,sensitise them before allowing them to wear India colours. — Dr chavez (@Ramesh16276338) January 10, 2019 Minimum 5 match ban.. Pandya wasn't going to play anyway so what sort of lesson he will learn? — Rahul Sharma (@OneRahul_Sharma) January 10, 2019 One person who goes scot free and laughing is @karanjohor. The lads were stupid to fall prey to enticement. Lot to learn from Sachin and Dravid. — Ajit Coelho (@ajitcoelho) January 10, 2019 When Too much money comes your way in too little time and you ain't got enough maturity to deal with it, this is the shit that happens. Both should be banned for IPL 2019 tabhi gosh thikane aayega. And Karan Johan's mindless show should be taken off air forthwith — Anand Broto Bose (@andyboser) January 10, 2019 Net net, both will enjoy an extended vacation in Australia and return, I would vote for a year long ban, that way they would reflect on what they said and what it means to be a role model! — Srikanth Sundararaja (@SundarSrik) January 10, 2019 @BCCI #HardikPandya should be banned for 3 months atleast n should learn to respect women. #KLRahul should also be banned for 6 months. — ankit pandey (@AnkitkrPandey) January 10, 2019 #HardikPandya can sleep with as many women as he wants as long as its consensual Having said that he needs to learn respect and let go of this male chauvinism. As for KL Rahul, if he does not call out such behaviour he too is a part of the problem. But a ban? Nope. — Mriga (@jst_a_scribbler) January 10, 2019 @karanjohar got what he wanted, trp! It's not like this was a live show, kjo would have known how the responses will harm and offend..Def his reputation managers warned him... Obviously he knew it's great noise creator! Why wasn't this reshot? #HardikPandya #KoffeeWithCricketers — Reshma (@reshmabudhia) January 10, 2019 The controversy created by #HardikPandya and #KLRahul clearly asserts the importance of basic education no matter what field one pursues their career in. @BCCI and other councils should probably include a soft skills training and public courtesy course compulsory for all players. — Varun Kulkarni (@vk130795) January 10, 2019
