  3. The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League is not even close to what the fans are used to seeing. For obvious reasons, the global pandemic has not only shifted India's cash-rich Twenty20 (T20) tournament to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but has also brought in place a set of new rules and regulations in these extraordinary times. Major stress on social distancing meant that one of cricket's beloved T20 tournaments was going to be held behind closed-doors, in empty stadiums and with no fanfare. Well, the thought of watching a cricket match with empty seats and no cheers from fans in the stands just seemed wrong. But, no one was really complaining as cricket was back in action after months of hiatus. In the 14 matches that have been played so far, IPL 2020 has adequately made up for the lack of fanfare by producing some of the most exciting contests we've seen this year. From great batting performances, majestic bowling spells, sublime fielding efforts to even the nerve-wracking 'Super Over' finishes, the ongoing season, in its initial phase, has witnessed it all. © YouTube With this year's edition being played in the UAE, Kaviya, amid much fanfare, is carrying out the chores of a fangirl all by herself in the stands. Her team might not have given her enough reasons to cheer for yet, but she is making sure the players get her support. Thus, when Hyderabad registered their maiden win (this season) against Delhi Capitals (DC) on 29th September, Kaviya was ecstatic in the stands. An ardent cricket fan who likes to keep tabs on her team's performance, the 28-year-old has also been making hay as part of her involvement with Sun music, overseeing the content for the FM channels. Last year, Kaviya was also inducted into the Board of Directors of Sun TV Network which marked her debut as a next-gen entrepreneur in the ever-competitive industry. View the full article
  4. The DC FanDome virtual convention gave us the first-ever teaser trailer for The Batman with Robert Pattinson portraying the character of Bruce Wayne. Director Matt Reeves released the 2-minute 23-second trailer and it is safe to say that the fans are not disappointed. From the get-go, the tone of the movie feels really dark, which is a great sign for DC Comics fans who had been complaining about how the filmmakers were hoping to add humour to their movies while trying to mimic the Marvel Cinematic Universe but were shooting themselves in the foot at the end of the day. In the trailer, the city of Gotham is crawling with dangerous criminals and murders and iconic villains from the ‘Caped Crusader’s’ world like The Penguin and The Riddler still climbing up that crime-ladder, still pretty early in their destructive careers. Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne: Robert Pattinson as #Batman pic.twitter.com/5uCZsUibJn — best of robert pattinson (@bestpattinson) August 23, 2020 According to the trailer, Batman works closely with Commissioner James Gordon. He gets stared at but faces no objections by any of the police officers as he makes his way to the dead body in a crime scene. Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne looks shattered and has a slightly more gothic feel as compared to Ben Affleck or Christian Bale’s version of the billionaire vigilante. He is younger but can throw mean punches, even go a little overboard at times. Reeves revealed that the story for the film comes from a time when Wayne has already spent a couple of years as the masked hero but isn’t Batman yet. Having said that, the director also clarified that people are “afraid of him, quite frankly”. I edited in Robert Pattinson’s “I’m Batman” from 10years ago. #TheBatman #DCFanDome pic.twitter.com/ubdYgwUXVW — robert pattinsonioni (@ConverseStew) August 23, 2020 Pattinson’s Bruce is a lot more disarranged which is in stark contrast to the versions played by Affleck and Bale. He doesn’t care about the eye-paint that stays on his face even when he removes the mask, the iconic Wayne Manor is nowhere to be found and he continues to smash his enemies skull even after he is down and out cold. Other Important Characters: Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman in The Batman. That's the tweet. #DCFanDome pic.twitter.com/TZN8YfztzD — Jay.. (@x_warinmymind) August 23, 2020 The trailer also shows us some interesting things about the rest of the characters from the film, such as Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon and Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman. Andy Serkis’ Alfred can also be heard at the back. Catwoman’s make-do mask for a cat-burglar, for example, shows that it has not been too long since they’ve gotten into the dangerous business. Verdict On First Impression: THE BATMAN trailer looks like SE7EN on steroids. It’s dripping in atmosphere and dread. Robert Pattinson’s Batman voice is literal perfection. Yes, this is going to be very good. pic.twitter.com/Az8mdeezb0 — Dan (@Danimalish) August 22, 2020 Many, including myself, believed that the responsibility of playing Batman might get too much for Robert Pattinson. People inevitably thought of his performance as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie franchise and created a belief system around how he was destined to screw up. Having said that, the first look is absolutely amazing. From his vulnerable yet dangerous face to the way he says “I am vengeance” after beating the pulp out of a bad guy, this new and darker take on Bruce Wayne somehow feels refreshing and can work in favour of the English actor. Also Read: Why Robert Pattinson Would Make A Fantastic Batman While the movie was scheduled to come out in June 2021, the coronavirus pandemic caused major delays in production. According to reports, The Batman hopes to be in theatres by October 2021. View the full article
  5. Today was a day like no other. Narendra Modi in his speech had announced that March 22, 2020 is going to be Janta Curfew, wherein people won't step out of their house the entire day. However, at 5 pm, to respect people who are risking their lives amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has taken over the world, people are supposed to step out in their balconies and clap and even use their kitchen utensils to ring in unison as a mark of respect. Around 4.55 pm, people had already started clapping and ringing bells in their balconies, and as the minutes passed the ringing sound exponentially increased. While the street dogs got scared after a relatively peaceful day sans human interaction, people were blasting ringing music on their Marshall speakers. Some people were recording this strange affair and put it up online. The hashtag #5baje5minute is going to be trending for a while now. Here are some reactions online and how celebrities participated today. 1. 6. US President Donald Trump — File photoAmid rising tensions with Iran, United States President Donald Trump made a surprising speech on Wednesday, in which he spoke of additional sanctions against Iran, while hinting at deescalation of conflict at the same time. After the calculated and much-hyped speech, social media users discussed at length the major international crisis. A few took the speech as the 'first step towards deescalation' while others were not so kind in their opinion regarding the US president's speech. Pakistani politician and Senator Sherry Rehman welcomed the notion of peace in the address. Another praise for the speech. Politician Marvi Memon also seconded a journalist on his views. Some were also critical of the US President Trump's address. The speech was also taken as a first step towards de-escalation of conflict.
  7. Have you ever stood up for what is wrong and right? Well, it's a democracy and practicing it really helps us progress. Just recently a gentleman did the same and earned a lot of respect through it, just because he stood up for something he believed was wrong. A video is doing the rounds on the internet of a SpiceJet passenger, arguing with Bhartiya Janta Party MP Pragya Thakur, who held up a Bhopal-bound flight for about 45 minutes because she wanted to change her seat. When the man pointed out that what she was doing was wrong and had a fulfledged argument about it with her, the entire flight as well as the internet deemed him a hero for vocalising what was fundamentally wrong. © BCCL A few days ago, while taking a SpiceJet flight SG2489 from Delhi to Bhopal, the MP stalled the flight for a good 45-minutes, after she was asked by the crew to move to a non-emergency row seat, as she was on an emergency seat. The MP was on a wheelchair and when the airhostess came to request her to move her seat, she refused. A lot of restless passengers requested her to change her seat while most others asked the crew to offload her since she was being stubborn. One of the male passengers, who's also in the video, even told her she's a people's representative and her job is not to 'trouble them'. After a bit of an argument, the MP is heard saying in Hindi: "I said it at the beginning itself that show me your rulebook. If I don't feel comfortable, I will go.” To which the man replies "You are people's representative. Your job is not to trouble us. You should come by the next flight." “You should have the moral compass that even if one person is getting troubled because of you, you should own up because you are the leader. You are not ashamed that you have held 50 people at ransom," the man arguing with her, adds. This wins the Internet:pic.twitter.com/4KFpDpbJYM — santhoshd (@santhoshd) December 22, 2019 The MP also went ahead and filed a complaint with the Bhopal Airport director, stating that she was not allotted the seat she had booked on the flight and that the airline crew didn't treat her well. To which the airline said: "SpiceJet had the privilege to have Pragya Thakur on board on December 21. She had pre-booked seat 1A and had come to the airport in her own wheelchair. The Delhi-Bhopal flight is operated by Bombardier Q400 aircraft (78 seats). On this aircraft, the first row is the emergency row seat and is not allocated to passengers on wheelchairs," Meanwhile people on Twitter all over were overjoyed with the man taking a stand against the BJP MP. 10. Everyone knows who Jeff Bezos is, right? One of the richest men in the world, Amazon CEO, a really big deal? Well, turns out, some people have no clue. Bezos' recent visit to a company-funded computer science class at Dunbar High School in Washington, DC and his interaction with the students there, has now gone viral on the internet. In the video, Bezos is seen talking to the students about Amazon's 'Future Engineer Programmes' which funds the students for courses around the US and while this was happening, a student was seen asking, "who's Jeff Bezos?" twice to another student who was sitting right behind him. Jeff Bezos may be one of the most well-known CEOs in the world, but for this kid, he is just another man. The video was posted by NBC Washington's Caroline Tucker and she tweeted, “This morning @amazon is at Dunbar High School in DC to announce a milestone in its Future Engineer Program. When the teenager got to know that Bezos is the CEO of one of the largest companies in the world, he turned around saying, “Big deal, so what?” Umm...okay! We all want to attain the level of chill this kid has. Caroline Tucker also wrote, “The young man in the class ended up being the only one who spoke to Jeff Bezos about how much he has learned about coding. Later on, he told me he wanted to “seize” the opportunity to talk to the CEO.” FYI...the young man in the class ended up being the only one who spoke to Jeff Bezos about how much he has learned about coding. 11. Yesterday, on February 14, the nation was painted red, not in the colour of love but with blood as nearly 40 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel were martyred in one of the worst terrorist attacks ever in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. AP When half the nation was celebrating the day of love with their partners, there were many families who were mourning the death of their loved ones. Cheers of laughter and joy soon turned into tears and cries of the families of jawans, who were mercilessly attacked when they were travelling in a CRPF bus that was blown up using explosives. Reportedly, a suicide bomber named Adil Ahmad Dar alias 'Waqas Commando' crashed his SUV, laden with more than 350kgs of explosives, into the bus that was part of a 70-vehicle convoy on its way to Pulwama. Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for this terror attack. AP The attack has left the families devastated and the nation in shock. From prominent personalities to commoners, everyone is filled with rage and are now voicing their anger on social media. From Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan, 'Uri' actor Vicky Kaushal to Taapsee Pannu, Alia Bhatt and more, celebrities are standing strong with the families of martyred jawans as this cowardly and despicable act can't be forgotten easily. 13. After a goalless halftime and a tough competition from The Red Devils, France finally clinched victory and an entry into the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals last evening, thanks to Samuel Umtiti. Umtiti's kickass header in the 51st minute turned his team's fate for good and sent them into the finals, where they will now compete with either England or Croatia this Sunday. The last time the French football team won the World Cup was in 1998, so it will definitely be a big deal if they get to pick the trophy this time. © Twitter After 2006, Les Bleus have now got another opportunity to prove their mettle on the biggest stage and probably mute England's 'It's coming home' chants that have been doing rounds for some time now. As expected, after the match the French fans went berserk and they have all the reasons to do so because France just paved its way towards bringing the trophy home after 20 years. Twitter was flooded with hashtags like FRABEL and fans had all sorts of memes and jokes to make on both the winning and the losing team. 21. After MS Dhoni renounced his Team India captaincy, Virat Kohli rose to the occasion and became the new skipper of the two-time World Cup champions. While Kohli's transition into the new role seemed seamless, there was a lot of speculation that it might create a rift between Dhoni and his successor. But, those rumours were laid to rest after the duo were seen sharing a good rapport on the pitch. Today, the two Indian cricket icons share a mutual respect for each other and have often been seen coming to each other's aid in difficult times. While Dhoni was graceful in making way for the Delhi lad to take over Team India's captaincy, Kohli was later seen returning the favour by throwing his weight behind the Jharkhand cricketer when he was being criticised for a poor run with the willow. Despite Kohli being the captain in all formats, the fact that Dhoni is still seen taking DRS calls and setting up the field goes on to show the camaraderie these two cricketers share with each other. But, with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locking horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) later this evening, their camaraderie is expected to turn into club rivalry in the Indian Premier League (IPL). © Reuters While the Kohli-led RCB has found the going tough in this season, CSK - under the tutelage of Dhoni - have been improving with every game. With two wins in five games this season, it's Bangalore who would desperately need a win to boost their Playoff chances than Chennai, who are currently second in the points tally. Though the encounter betwen CSK and RCB - with a thrilling rivalry between Kohli and Dhoni at the helm - makes it a cracker of a match on the field, there's another battle - in the stands - which will be closely watched this evening. The better-halves of Kohli and Dhoni will be seen cheering for their husbands as they get ready to outwit each other on the field. © BCCI While Anushka Sharma has been hogging the limelight for her animated celebrations in RCB's previous game, Sakshi Dhoni, too, has managed to add glamour to Chennai's clashes in the past. The two beauties will once again be seen fighting for the spotlight as their respective husbands lead the charge for their teams in today's clash. © BCCI But, despite their upcoming battle, Anushka and Sakshi share a good rapport just like their husbands. From being snapped together in the stands to accompanying each other on team outings, the two women have been seen hanging out together in the past. © Twitter And, if you thought it was cricket that has bought Anushka and Sakshi together, then you're wrong. In fact, long before the duo fell in love with cricketers, they lived in the same town and also shared the same school. It's already known that Anushka comes from a family with an Army background. And, just like other families of the Indian Army personnel, they, too, travelled quite a lot amidst the postings of her father. © Twitter While they were posted in Assam, Anushka and Sakshi attended the same school together - a fact that was earlier highlighted by a popular fan account that also shared pictures of the two women at different stages of their lives. Apart from the photos, Anushka had also revealed details about her time with Sakshi in Assam, early in her career. In a recent interview, the Bollywood actress spoke about her reunion with Sakshi years after graduating. “Sakshi and I lived together in a very small town in Assam. When she told me where she lived, I said 'wow, I have lived here too'! She said I went to this school, I said I went to this school too. And then I found a picture in which Sakshi is dressed as a fairy and I'm dressed in a ghaghara like my favourite idol Madhuri. Sakshi is extremely funny,” Anushka had said. So as you gear up for the thrilling Kohli vs Dhoni battle, keep an eye out for Anushka and Sakshi in the stands at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
