  1. This handout photo released by the European Southern Observatory shows an artist's impression of the first interstellar asteroid: Oumuamua WASHINGTON: A rocky cigar-shaped object detected in space last month came from another solar system, astronomers said Monday as they confirmed an unprecedented observation. The discovery may provide clues as to how other solar systems formed, said the researchers, who published their study in the British journal Nature. The asteroid, named Oumuamua by its discoverers, is one-quarter mile (400 meters) long and highly elongated --perhaps 10 times as long as it is wide. That odd shape is unprecedented among the some 750,000 asteroids and comets observed in our solar system where they formed, said the researchers. They concluded that the cigar-shaped thing is from another solar system due to data on its orbit. Asteroids like Oumuamua enter our solar system about once a year, these scientists said. But they are hard to trace and had not been detected until now, thanks to stronger telescopes. The detection suggests this object had been wandering through our galaxy, the Milky Way, unattached to any star system for hundreds of millions of years before it ran into ours. "For decades we´ve theorized that such interstellar objects are out there, and now -- for the first time -- we have direct evidence they exist," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA´s Science Mission Directorate in Washington. "This history-making discovery is opening a new window to study formation of solar systems beyond our own," he added. The asteroid was detected by a telescope in Hawaii. Oumuamua means messenger in Hawaiian
  2. PTI chairman Imran Khan ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Sunday issued a statement expressing his reservations over Nawaz Sharif?s plan to travel to Lahore in a cavalcade via GT road. Khan said Sharif?s plan was a ?deliberate attempt to continue undermining the Supreme Court of Pakistan by calling into question its decision on the Panama case,? which was a ?unanimous decision? by the five-member SC bench after a ?thorough investigation?. [embed_video1 url=http://stream.jeem.tv/vod/266232d707de9f66f05ad6068e9ccb0c.mp4/playlist.m3u8?wmsAuthSign=c2VydmVyX3RpbWU9OC82LzIwMTcgOTozNTozMyBBTSZoYXNoX3ZhbHVlPWxINDROZlVzNVVha0R4RnZQYTZETXc9PSZ2YWxpZG1pbnV0ZXM9NjAmaWQ9MQ== style=center] The PTI chief said that by doing so, Sharif was ?attempting to destroy the judicial system in the country? and is now ?prepared to destroy the whole democratic system.? Khan remarked that this ?deliberate attempt by Sharif to attack the judiciary was in complete contrast to PTI?s acceptance of the SC decision on rigging despite the party?s misgivings over the judgment.? ?Sharif?s second purpose in going on the GT Road was to pressure NAB where his cases are to open against his corruption, money laundering, tax evasion, assets? concealment and forgery,? the PTI chairman added.
  3. Virender Sehwag needs no introduction when it comes to his witty commentary on the social media. From uncanny birthday wishes to drawing hilarious comparisons, the former Indian cricketer is probably the biggest bully on Twitter. Whether it's a cricketer or a celebrity, no one seems to have escaped Sehwag's witty humour. And, the latest to come in the firing line is Sri Lankan umpire Kumar Dharmasena. The 45-year-old former Sri Lankan cricketer has been going through a lean patch in his stint as an ICC umpire. Dharmasena's ability to give the correct decision has come under scrutiny of late. His less-than-impressive outing in Bangladesh was followed by a few blunders in the India-England Test series. And now, he seems to have carried on his poor umpiring form to Australia. During the second ODI between New Zealand and Australia on 6 December, Dharmasena once again fell flat on his face after his decision to rule Steve Smith out was overturned by the Decision Review System (DRS). While Dharmasena would surely like to forget his blunders, Sehwag, on the other hand, capitalised on the opportunity to prey on the Sri Lankan. Sehwag, who had invented the term 'Dharmasena Review System' after the Sri Lankan's umpiring howlers, trolled the umpire with a hilarious tweet. Bas itte Se reh gaya,Smith ko sahi decision dene Se. After grand success in India&Bangladesh, #DharmasenaReviewSystem now in Australia too. pic.twitter.com/6wcbDqddNc — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) December 6, 2016 "Bas itte Se reh gaya,Smith ko sahi decision dene Se. After grand success in India&Bangladesh, #DharmasenaReviewSystem now in Australia too," Sehwag tweeted on Tuesday. We are not sure if Dharmasena has seen Viru's tweet, but for his own sake, the Sri Lankan umpire better get his act together knowing that the 'Nawab of Najafgarh' is just lurking around the corner waiting for another slip-up.
