  1. Life can be so unpredictable, and it takes personal experiences to really believe that. So when Swiggy delivery boy Vishal went about taking care of his deliveries, little did he know that one particular delivery to this young man named Nikhil George will change his life and how. Vishal had gone to hand over the delivery to Nikhil when the two started chatting. This eventually led to an exchange that helped the world discover a talented artist who is a “painter by profession and a delivery boy by compulsion”. This is how things went down: This is Vishal. He delivered my Swiggy order today. He's an artist and he is looking for work. Do let me know if you would like to get a painting/wall art commissioned. I can put you in touch with him. Do spread the word and help him out! pic.twitter.com/3HCMaYSuRx — nikhiilist (@nikhiilist) January 6, 2020 No sooner did Nikhil post this update that it caught people's attention on Twitter. People couldn't stop praising Vishal's talent and requests for projects and portraits began pouring in. Bollywood actor-director Pooja Bhatt was one of those who wanted to get in touch with Vishal to get portraits created. Yes please! ð how does one connect with him? — Pooja Bhatt (@PoojaB1972) January 7, 2020 Vishal had joined Swiggy in 2018 to financially support himself and works with the food delivery company on a part-time basis while sparing a large chunk of his day to explore his passion for painting. If he is willing to come to Malda, which we will pay for, we are looking for an artist to paint an Aaganwadi Centre here. Might not get paid as much but would be great exposure for his work. — Naveen Kumar Chandra, IAS (@n_k_chandra) January 7, 2020 According to a HT report, Vishal's Instagram post said, “Hello everybody, I am Vishal. I am a painter by profession and a delivery boy by compulsion. Would love to earn my daily bread thru' my hobby and passion.” He also added that one of his friends helped him create the Instagram account showcase his work and gain more exposure. Hey Nikhil, thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention ð Talent should always be shared, appreciated and supported. It is great to know that such a talented artist is among us and we would want to do everything possible (cont) https://t.co/0Ch5otPksJ — Swiggy Cares (@SwiggyCares) January 7, 2020 As for Nikhil, this is what he had to say to HT, “After delivering the order, he told me that he's an artist and asked me if I needed any paintings done. I asked him to show me his work. I was impressed. I never expected it to get the response that it did. My phone started buzzing non-stop.” View the full article

My love for romantic-comedies began very early on. For the first time, I am doing something in this space. It has been a desire to do something like this. I have always felt that I am cut for romantic roles, others may not have felt it,” Siddiqui said. Well, congratulations Nawazuddin for the award, you deserve it. View the full article
  4. They say a little luck goes a long way, but then we wonder what about all that truckloads worth of talent which holds the promise of taking you places? While it's true that neither of the two can exist without the other, let us give talent the due credit that it deserves. Regardless of the vocation you may be associated with - whether you call yourself a doctor, a graphic designer, an artist, an architect or an actor, plumber or a civil servant - luck alone wouldn't get you to the pinnacle of success that all of us are ultimately chasing. It takes raw, undiluted talent, and unbridled passion for your art or work to really ace it, or in other words, for it to take you places. These five underrated Bollywood actors who have won international awards for their valuable work in the field of acting only prove that talent has no boundaries. 1. Nawazuddin Siddiqui © Instagram/Nawazuddin Siddiqui Gaitonde doesn't really need an introduction anymore, does he? Nawaz went from playing a tiny role of a terrorist in Sarfarosh to shouldering massive box office hits such as Paan Singh Tomar, Gangs of Wasseypur I & II, The Lunchbox, Manjhi, Mom, Manto and Thackeray. Hours ago, Nawaz won the Golden Dragon Award at the 2019 Cardiff International Film Festival for excellence in cinema in the global arena. 2. Rajkummar Rao © Instagram/Rajkummar Rao For Rajkummar Rao his career has been extremely colourful in terms of the kind of roles he has done. Right from Raagini MMS, Kai Po Che, Shahid, Trapped, to Newton, Stree and Bareilly Ki Barfi, he has proved his mettle time and again. For Newton, he was awarded the Variety Asia Rising Star and Best Actor at Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2017. 3. Irrfan Khan © Instagram/Irrfan Irrfan Khan has been a trailblazer for the Hindi film industry in a lot of ways. A powerhouse of talent, Irrfan has delivered some exceptionally memorable performances in recent times such as Maqbool, The Namesake, Paan Singh Tomar, Life of Pi, The Lunchbox, Piku, Hindi Medium and Qarib Qarib Singlle to name just a few. His role in The Lunchbox won him the Best Actor award in Asian Film Awards and Dubai International Film Festival in 2014. 4. Manoj Bajpayee © Instagram/Manoj Bajpayee A multifaceted actor who created a space for himself within the Hindi film industry with fabulous performances as seen in films like Satya, Zubeidaa, Pinjar, Raajneeti and the like, Manoj Bajpayee was awarded the Best Actor Award at the Asia Pacific Screen Award 2016 for his killer performance in Hansal Mehta's Aligarh. 5. Naseeruddin Shah © Instagram/Naseeruddin Shah Another fireball of talent that Bollywood has failed to make the best of and explore to its truest potential, Naseeruddin Shah was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Dubai Film Festival in 2015, and the Best Actor Award at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival Awards 2016. 5. With kohl-lined eyes and long, wild locks, Saif Ali Khan created a rabid curiosity among people to watch his latest movie Laal Kaptaan on the big screen and the verdict is in. Over the years, Saif has evolved as an actor and his idea of experimenting with roles has clearly been working for him. After watching the trailer of Laal Kaptaan, viewers were left wanting and waiting to see what new element the actor is bringing to the table this time. The movie has already hit the screens and as expected, people have some rather strong opinions. While some are saying the movie is most certainly worth a watch as the concept is something new and brave which has been attempted before, some found it to be an absolute waste of Saif's talent. Check out the reactions here: #LaalKaptaan Epic 5/5 Art Brutal@deepakdobriyal brilliant man.#SaifAliKhan class apart Don't believe the critics. — Maddox (@serious_pencho) October 19, 2019 People go & watch #LaalKaptaan it's a brilliant work by @Nopisingh @ErosNow @aanandlrai @cypplOfficial @firozepuriya @deepakdobriyal & above all brilliant performance by #SaifAliKhan #LaalKaptaanReview 4.5 out of 5,my ratings #GoWatchRealCinema — Vivek (@bigvivek) October 19, 2019 #LaalKaptaan is a must watch. Saif has gone the extra mile to look convincing for the role that he had taken up in Laal Kaptaan. Talking about the physical transformation he underwent to play the role of a revenge-seeking saadhu, Saif had earlier said, "I even got my ears pierced for the role, which I was worried about initially. My hair has grown a lot. It bothered me throughout summer when I was shooting in Rajasthan's sweltering heat. It took me 40 minutes to two hours sometimes to just get into hair and make-up for the part." Apart from this movie, Saif will be seen next in Taanaji: The Unsung Hero, which co-stars Ajay Devgn, in Dil Bechara, alongside Sushant Singh Rajput and in Jawaani Jaaneman, which will mark the Bollywood debut of Pooja Bedi's daughter Alaia Furniturewalla.
  6. Kangana Ranaut is unabashed, unapologetic and braver than most people in the country and in Bollywood as well. The Queen bee of B-town always finds herself swimming in a controversy which is brewed either by her sister in tow or sometimes due to her inability to mince her own words. However, that has never stopped her from doing what she likes or speak what she thinks. The woman is an example of dreams working out if you don't give up and has carved her name in the industry without any daddies or friends in B-town to back her. While many mocked her and brushed it off, her true words found support in a lot of people who were working hard in the industry and yet found no work. Continuing her aim to do good work and do what she feels is right, Kangana is now turning proudcer to back small budget movies and also ensure that new talent gets a well deserved break. In a recent interview, she explained her plans and motive. “If JudgeMentall Hai Kya was made without me on a budget of Rs 10 crore, it would have been a blockbuster at Rs 40 crore. However, because it was made at nearly Rs 30 crore, it just about broke even. I want to [back] a few small films and see how that goes. Eventually, I may do something on a bigger level. We will also venture into digital entertainment. My office will be ready by January. Simultaneously, we are readying our projects. There are so many good scripts that come my way and the [makers] want me to feature in them. But there is so much new talent that needs to be given a platform. It's important that these powerful scripts don't get lost and make it to the big screen,” she said. View this post on Instagram A lighter-than-air malmal sari with minimal gold boders is a perfect base for a neo-Indian look. Paired flawlessly with a Lady dior bag and statement sunnies. With her maiden venture, she will join the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma who are already running successful production houses. Let's hope Kangana is able to fulfill what she aspires to do and can be a role model for people who don't belong to filmy families in Bollywood.
  7. Many of us have a number of 'hidden' talents that do not make their way into the outside world for others to see because of a number of reasons. Either we are too shy, or not too confident or too self-critical to even consider it as a talent that can be let out in public. Well it seems that a Karnataka cop called Chandrakant Hutgi, who is a head constable at the Hubli rural police station, is one such person. He has been named as the 'Pied Piper of the Police Department' after he transformed his lathi into a flute and played such melodious tunes, that IPS officer stationed there was inspired to post the video of Hutgi in action online. Chandrakant Hutgi, Head Constable from Hubli Rural Police station has converted his Deadly Fiber Lathi into a Musical Instrument... we are proud of him... pic.twitter.com/gyZWhk1lkb — Bhaskar Rao IPS (@deepolice12) May 28, 2019 IPS officer Bhaskar Rao invited Hutgi to Bangalore and even awarded him with a special cash award. “Rao called me to Bengaluru on Monday with the musical lathi to play for him in his office after he heard from his colleagues that I converted it into a flute. He also rewarded me,” Hutgi told IANS. © Twitter The video has since gained a lot of momentum online and people are thoroughly impressed with head constable Hutgi's talent. As for the man himself, he calls this his hobby. By using simple tools Hutgi made eight holes on his lathi and turned it into a flute on which he loves to play Kannada film songs while he isn't busy working. No wonder he has impressed so many people who cannot stop praising him for his show of unique talent. What innovation we say!
  8. Arguably two of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi share a rivalry like no other in international football. The sport has seen many superstars over the ages, but the decade-long reign of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is arguably something that's going to last in our memories for a really long time. The two footballing greats have made the sport their own playing arena and the fact that they have won a record five Ballon d'Ors, goes on to show how dominant they have been in the last decade. The duel for football's top individual award began in 2008 when Ronaldo pipped Messi to bag his first Ballon d'Or. However, Messi staged a spectacular comeback a year later and went on to bag the coveted award for four successive years. Then, Ronaldo bounced back to clinch the prestigious award in 2013 and 2014 before Messi took his tally to a record five Ballon d'Or wins in 2015. While many ruled the Portuguese out of the race, Ronaldo stunned everyone by bagging the award in 2016 and 2017, once again proving he's second to none. © Reuters While Luka Modric ended their dominance after winning the Ballon d'Or last year, the Ronaldo vs Messi debate continues to capture the imagination of football pundits and fans alike. The latest individual to give his verdict on who's the best amongst the two superstars was none other than Indian football team talisman Sunil Chhetri. Giving his opinion on the subject while picking one as his favourite player and the other as his role model, Chhetri, during a live interaction on Instagram, said: “Who is better? I think both Messi and Ronaldo are amazing but if you ask who is my favourite, it will be Messi for me. But if you need a role model, I would say Cristiano Ronaldo would be a better pick". There was no surprise to see Chhetri admiring Messi's talent, but it was Ronaldo's work ethics that made him select the Portuguese over the Argentine as a better role model. "Messi is more like a god gift. Some of the things he (Messi) does, it is so difficult to learn. He does them so effortlessly. With Cristiano, there's so much of hard work and if you see his graph every year, there's so much to learn," the Indian football team captain said. © Reuters “For example, when he (Ronaldo) was younger, you would see him on the left doing those step-overs but now he takes less touches at the ball, he would pass the ball on the wing and then run into the box. And his running is so good, it's so tough to mark him. His header, his finishing from both left and right – it's just brilliant. He takes less time on ball now but he is as good as ever and so devastating,” Chhetri added further in the video. Apart from Ronaldo and Messi, Chhetri also weighed in on another battle - Mohamed Salah vs Neymar - that continues to throng the social media. "Salah or Neymar? Salah's form has been so good for the past two-three years. But, if I have to pick, I'll pick Neymar, yes," Chhetri claimed. Barring Neymar, who wasn't part of the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) squad which was eliminated in the Round of 16 tie at the hands of Manchester United, the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Salah are all active in the ongoing edition of the UEFA Champions League. While Messi and Salah went goalless in the first leg of their respective quarterfinals, Ronaldo's goal saved Juventus the blushes during the 1-1 draw against a spirited Ajax side.
  9. For someone who was labelled by MS Dhoni as his potential successor, Rishabh Pant has struggled to live up to the hype in the recent opportunities he got. While his wicket-keeping skills are still a work in progress, Pant's batting, where he failed to build on his stats, had attracted a lot of criticism. But, on 24th March, the dashing left-hander silenced everyone by playing one of the most exciting knocks in T20 cricket. Carrying the baton for a new-look Delhi Capitals (DC), Pant smoked an unbeaten 27-ball 78 to power his team to a mammoth 213-run total against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash. Coming out to bat, with his side looking to surge ahead at 112/3, the 21-year-old went about his business in the usual unorthodox manner. For someone who smacked his second ball in international cricket (Test debut against England last year) for a six, Pant took no time to settle at the crease as he began clobbering the Mumbai attack all around the park, with his best shot being a helicopter-flick off Jasprit Bumrah's yorker. © Twitter/@IPL He notched up his fifty in just 18 deliveries and surpassed his idol Dhoni who had achieved the feat against Mumbai in 20 balls back in 2012. Pant's half-century was also the third-fastest fifty in the IPL. KL Rahul currently leads the list of fastest fifty in the IPL, having reached the mark in 14 deliveries last season. Sunil Narine and Yusuf Pathan share the second spot with their fifties coming in 15 balls. Pant's blistering knock was decorated with seven fours and as many sixes, while his strike-rate of over 288 speaks about his big-hitting. To put things in perspective, Delhi's run-rate was 8.61 when Pant came out to bat, and by the time he was done (end of the innings), his side had surged to a run-rate of 10.65. © Twitter/@IPL In reply, Yuvraj Singh's valiant fifty kept Mumbai in the hunt (for a while) and Krunal Pandya, too, chipped in with a 15-ball 32. But, the three-time IPL champions just couldn't break the first-match jinx, losing the contest by 37 runs - an opening game defeat for seventh season in a row. For a man who was recently getting slammed for his exploits on the field, Pant's blazing knock served a stark reminder to his critics that he's here to stay. Just Wow from Pant ! — Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) March 24, 2019 Only one word for Rishabh Pant today. Wow. The sixes were exquisite but the boundary to get to 50 was simply special. — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) March 24, 2019 It was nothing short of breathtaking that from Pant! Two shots off Bumrah were just pure gold. ððððð#MIvDC #IPL2019 — Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) March 24, 2019 Rishabh Pant is a serious player !!! — Nasser Hussain (@nassercricket) March 24, 2019 Just how good is Rishabh Pant. And yes, he's worth investing in. #MIvDC #IPL — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) March 24, 2019 If it was Andrew Russell at Eden, it is Rishabh Pant at Wankhade. 11. Sachin Tendulkar might be the 'God of cricket' but he is also a hardworking and a doting father at the end of the day. He had to work his way up in the challenging world of cricket without any strings, and that's exactly how he has trained his son, Arjun. Arjun Tendulkar's cricket career so far has been both scrutinised and praised from various angles by a lot of people. After the news of Arjun making it to the Under-19 Indian cricket squad for the Sri Lanka tour was announced, it sparked a major debate on the internet. © Twitter While a lot of people are praising Arjun for making it to the team through sheer hard work, there are some who are calling it a classic case of nepotism. Seriously why so much negativity around his selection ? If he doesn't deserve to be there , he will get dropped just like other players ( son of) famous cricketers.#ArjunTendulkar pic.twitter.com/9fP2SKGPtV — Prashant Pareek (@prashan23S) June 7, 2018 If anybody thinks #arjuntendulkar got into the India u-19 team through merit. You are far far away from reality. — yashas (@YashasRonie) June 8, 2018 #ArjunTendulkar Nepotism Zindabaad! — Utsav Chaurasia (@im__utsav) June 8, 2018 Every time #ArjunTendulkar gets hit for a boundary, he can turn to the batman and say, "pata hai mera baap kaun hain?" @sachin_rt — Prasanna Karthik R (@prasannakarthik) June 8, 2018 Someone even compared him to Rohan Gavaskar. #ArjunTendulkar is an average bowler. He runs, and delivers the ball with a weird action. Thanks to his father's recommendations, he is now part of the U-19 squad- and hundreds of more talented bowlers get ignored. Remember, there was someone called Rohan Gavaskar. — Ganeshan Iyer (@ganeshan_iyer) June 7, 2018 And then there was some obvious comparison to the nepotism prevalent in Bollywood. It's upto #ArjunTendulkar to break the trend of Bollywood sons who could not do even half as good as their dad. ð#bachchan #kapoor #khanna — meh! (@_therealNobody) June 8, 2018 To be fair, it doesn't matter if nepotism existed here or not, all that matters right now is how he performs for India during the game. While it is also quite possible that this opportunity might have come Arjun's way in an easier manner, compared to that of an average struggling player, one can also hold the committee accountable if his performance is not justified with the selection. That would probably be the right time to question them. Until then, we can take a breather and see how it Tendulkar Jr. fares.

  16. Unconventional is his other name, breaking rules and carving his own path with no godfather in Bollywood, Irrfan Khan is an example of par excellence. He might not be like our usual Khans but that's exactly what makes him one of the most talented actors, person, and a global Indian. While Indian cinema can be loud and glossy with things that literally makes no sense, Irrfan Khan brought back that subtleness that often goes missing in cinemas. He is undisputedly one of the finest actors in the industry who brings the real to reel. Describing Irrfan's acting can be a tedious task, I bet there is hardly anyone who can attribute what this actor is in just a few words. He is difficult to analyse or describe, so just let settle with that he is the king of method and good acting. (c) Instagram/ Irrfan Khan As the actor turns 51 today, we bring you 17 lesser known facts about the actor that proves he is the story of immense hard work, luck, and colossal talent. 1. Acting Happened To Him By Chance He became an actor out of pure luck. He always wanted to be a cricketer but his parents disapproved of it. Out of sheer luck, he was offered a scholarship to attend NSD (National School of Drama) and to get in, he lied about having past experience in theatre. Well, a lie that's said for good ain't a lie after all. 2. Real Name Irrfan Khan real name is Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan. The actor didn't like how long his name was and brought it down to Irrfan, he also added an extra 'r' in his name. Apparently, he likes the sound of an extra 'r' in his name. So there is no numerology connection here! 3. The Royal Connection Hailing from a village named Tonk in Jaipur. The actor comes from a zamindar family which has some royal connection and has two siblings. His father always wanted him to join his family business and we are so glad he didn't. How He Got 'Salaam Bombay' When Mira Nair chose him for 'Salaam Bombay', the actor was in the final year at NSD. In fact, his role was cut short because of his tall height. 5. He Wanted To Give Up Acting Between 1994-1998, the actor worked in a lot of TV shows. The monotonous work bored him so much that he decided to quit acting. If it wasn't for Asif Kapadia's 'Warrior', he would have left acting a long time ago. Thank god, he didn't...we just have a handful of good actors in Bollywood anyway. 6. He Is Quite Tall Not many know this, but Irrfan is as tall as Amitabh Bachchan. Yes, he is At 6 feet, 1 inch. There are more life forms in a handful of forest soil than there are people on the planet. The Indian Film That Got A TFCA Is His His critically acclaimed film 'Lunch Box' is the only Indian movie till date to have got a TFCA – Toronto Film Critics Association Award. Now that's totally something to be proud of! 8. He Said No To Christopher Nolan The actor turned down a big role in 'Interstellar' because he was required to stay in the USA for four months and Irrfan was already committed to 'Lunch Box' and 'D-Day' at that time. We wonder if any other actors would have done the same thing if they were offered a Christopher Nolan film? 9. His One True Wish He also wishes to gift his mother a suitcase full of cash. How filmy is that? But we hope his wish comes true! His Moment With Julia Roberts It happened that Julia Roberts especially stopped outside Kodak Theatre where Oscars were being held just to compliment Irrfan for his acting in 'Slumdog Millionaire'. 11. His Name Is Similar To A Terror Suspect! Poor chap has been detained twice at Los Angeles Airport just because his name is similar to a terror suspect. And Shakespeare said 'What there is in the name?' 12. Made His Writer Rewrite Script A Dozen Times He is very particular about his script and reads a lot to understand his role. Such is his dedication that his writer-wife Supata Sikdar had to rewrite some episodes of 'Banegi Apni Baat' a dozen times. He is difficult to please we must say! (c) architecturaldigest 13. Meeting His Lady Love He met the love of his life Supata Sikdar in acting school and has two amazing kids Babil and Aryan with her. 14. The Father-Son Joke Irrfan never enjoyed eating meat and disliked hunting even though he was born in a Pathan family. Hence his father often used to tease him saying, 'he is a Brahmin born in a Pathan family'. 15. His True Inspiration During his struggling days to motivate himself he used to take inspiration from actors like Manoj Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah. 16. The Global Indian Irrfan is a global Indian who made his mark in Hollywood way before Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone took that road. He has appeared in more than 5 Hollywood movies including 'The Amazing Spiderman', 'Life of Pi', 'Jurassic World', to name some. First look #QareebQareebSinglle A post shared by Irrfan (@irrfan) on May 30, 2017 at 7:14am PDT The actor is the sheer example of making it big without any support in the industry. For having worked in the tinsel town for almost three decades now, he is one of the most skilled, respected and exceptional actors. On the work front, the actor already has some interesting Bollywood projects and also is working on a Hollywood film named 'Puzzle', which will be a part of Sundance festival's world premiere. Irrfan is a true inspiration and on this special day, we wish the actor all the happiness and success.
  17. As a child, Jeff Bezos lived with his grandparents but he was toubled by one thing there. His grandmother smoked a lot of cigarettes and he could not bear that smell. Somewhere from an advertisement, he got to know that a puff a cigarette could lose you 2 minutes of your life. So, one day Jeff decided to do the calculation for his grandmother and went on to tell her exactly that. He told his grandmother that by smoking cigarettes she had reduced her life by 9 years. To this, he had expected an appreciation for his smart mathematical skills but instead, his grandmother started crying. That day his grandfather called him and spoke to him these golden words,”It is harder to be kind than clever”. That lesson stayed with Jeff forever and he firmly believed his grandfather's wise words. © Hongkiat Jeff says cleverness is a gift and kindness is a choice. He says when you are 80-years-old and in a quiet moment of reflection narrating the most personal version of your life's story, it should compact and meaningful. It will be the series of choices you have made. In the end, we are but a congregation of our choices, so build yourself a great story. © Princeton University In another instance when Jeff decided to quit his job and shared his idea of selling books online with his then boss. When he approaced him, his boss said, “It is a very good idea Jeff but it would be an even better idea for someone who already did not have a very good job.” He asked Jeff to think about it for next 48 hours. The rest is history as Amazon is all over the interne now. Jeff says that you should be asking yourself these basic questions: Will inertia be your guide or will you follow your passion? Will you choose a life of ease or a life of service and adventure? Will you follow a dogma or will you choose to be original? When it's tough, will you give up or will you be relentless? Will you be a cynic or will you be a builder? Will you be clever at the expense of others or will you be kind? You can watch his complete speech below:
  18. Our country is a melting pot of talent and culture. The beauty of having over a billion people in our country is that everyone is unique in their own stride. One such unique story is the tale being brewed by the super talented Sumit Sadawarti. He is the only Indian who has made it to the final of 'Asia's Got Talent 2017'. Sumit is jazz and blues singer/songwriter who is not just brilliant, but is also self taught! His audition tape is not just mesmerising but it forces you to focus on the beautifully encrypted painful melody that his silken voice creates. For people who are acquainted with the jazz circle in Delhi must be aware that he made it to the final of 'The Korean Pop Culture Festival 2016', he even performed for the ' Youtube Indie Music Outreach'. The finale will be showcased on November 30th, Thursday and the voting lines will open soon after. 19. Member of the famous Bollywood clan, Ranbir Kapoor entered the tinsel town a decade ago. From making his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 'Saawariya' as a love-sick traveller to portraying an eccentric spy in Anurag Basu's 'Jagga Jasoos', the man has come a long way. Time and again, he has proved that he has what it takes to be an actor. Be it making the ladies go weak in the knees with his chocolate boy looks or giving severe goals to men in his 'Rockstar' avatar, he is certainly an actor who can portray any character without any hesitation. The last 10 years have been an incredible journey for Ranbir. He has given his share of hits and flops and despite all the turbulence, he has survived and shown an impressive variety. With some great films in the pipeline, it is interesting to see how his career has turned out. Let's take a look at RK's best performances till date. 1. 'Wake Up Sid' © Dhrama Productions You think of Ranbir and this is the first film that strikes your mind. This is one of those films that pretty much summed up the life cycle of most millennials. Ranbir as Sid was like most college kids, who are still trying to figure their dreams and are facing trouble transitioning from childhood to being an adult. Ranbir knocked that role out of the park by making it so relatable. 2. 'Raajneeti' © UTV Movies A contemporary take on Mahabharata, the role that Ranbir played in Prakash Jha's 'Raajneeti' was one of his finest and most underrated performances till date. This was one of those roles that explored a very different actor in him. For the first time, he wasn't your normal chocolate boy but someone who was all out to play a dark and gloomy character. 3. 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' © Dharma Productions Not many loved this film but there were many who could relate to Ayan Sanger, the guy who just couldn't get over the girl he loves. Ranbir's powerhouse acting made your heart hurt for him. He beautifully portrayed the emotions that come with unrequited love. And how can we forget the lesson that this film taught us? “Ek tarfa pyar ki taqat hi kuch aur hoti hai … auron ke rishton ki tarah yeh do logon mein nahi baatti … sirf mera haq hai ispe.” 4. 'Tamasha' © Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Imtiaz Ali explored an untapped territory of Ranbir as an actor in this movie. Yes, we have seen him emotionally vulnerable in various films, but here we got to see 50 shades of emotions. From anger, frustration, irritation and love to helplessness, watching Ranbir here was a glorious sight indeed. 5. 'Barfi' © Ishana Movies We bet all your inhibitions about Ranbir as an actor vanished the second you saw him in 'Barfi'. Playing the titular role of a deaf and mute boy, Ranbir played a role that even actors of great calibre can fail to do. A simple shift could have ruined the essence of the whole character but he played it exceptionally well, keeping all the emotions and mannerism intact. A performance that will remain eternal in his fans' minds forever! 6. 'Rockstar' © Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision It takes a lot for an actor to make you both laugh and cry in one film, and Ranbir did just that in this Imtiaz Ali movie. The narration of the film explores different layers of him as an actor. A man with a broken heart finding solace in music isn't a new concept in B-town but what this actor did with his role was beyond anyone's imagination as he channelled a true rockstar indeed. Saying that he is a good actor would be an understatement, as the man has proven over and over again that he can ace any role given to him. And right now we are waiting with bated breath to see him play Sanju Baba in Sanjay Dutt's upcoming biopic. Kudos Ranbir to have blessed Bollywood with your amazing work!
  20. PARIS: A French television channel pulled a hit talent show Thursday on which Canadian producer Gilbert Rozon is a judge after he was accused of sexual assault and harassment. Rozon stepped down as boss of the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal Wednesday after a comedian publicly accused him of being an "aggressor" following allegations from a number of women. Montreal police have opened an investigation into an alleged sexual aggression involving Rozon that took place in Paris in 1994, Radio Canada reported. The M6 channel said it was suspending "France´s Got Talent" -- which was due to air next week -- "without judging the truth" of the accusations against Rozon, who acts as the Simon Cowell figure on the show´s panel of judges. The 62-year-old impresario is the latest powerful male figure to be caught in the fallout from the Harvey Weinstein scandal, with the Hollywood mogul accused of decades of sexual abuse and harassment. "Shaken by the allegations against me, I want to dedicate all my time to review the matter," Rozon wrote on Facebook. "To all those who I may have offended in my life, I´m sincerely sorry." An M6 spokesman told AFP that the show had not been scrapped. "Its broadcast has been suspended but it will return later," he said.
  21. Actor Manoj Bajpayee is probably not as big a headline maker as some of the other popular celebrities, but when he does, you can be sure it involves something not-so-trivial. He recently made a rather strong statement saying he feels that Bollywood doesn't appreciate great talent when they are alive and only realise their worth after losing them. Now while there is nothing right or wrong about this since it is an opinion, one can't help but ponder over his words. Sharing his thoughts, he said, "I think it's something that always happens in Bollywood... We don't appreciate great talent when they are alive, but we say great things after they have passed away.” His statement came in the wake of the passing away of director Kundan Shah, the man who gave us spectacular films like 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa', 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro', and 'Kya Kehna'. © Twitter "Kundan Shah was a unique director of our times. He was an amazing thinker. If you see his films like 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro', 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa' and 'Kya Kehna', these were incredible films. They didn't just belong to romantic genres or comedy but the film talked about things beyond it. They talked about social taboos and also questioned the unhealthy practices of our society. He never made a film only for entertainment but always gave important messages through his films. The saddest part is that he wasn't appreciated enough when he was alive,” Bajpayee said during a media interaction. We are eagerly waiting to see what other colleagues of his from Bollywood have to say about such strong words from Bajpayee. © Twitter Bajpayee will be starring in 'Rukh' which is set to release on the 27th of this month. The movie is directed by debutant Atanu Mukherjee and stars Bajpayee, Smita Tambe, Kumud Mishra and Adarsh Gourav.
  22. Stokes' ability with both bat and ball makes him a genuine all-rounder LONDON: Ben Stokes has long been thought of as key to England´s chances of success during the upcoming Ashes tour of Australia, and that view has only hardened since his place was put in jeopardy by his arrest. Speculation over Stokes´s future intensified Thursday when England suspended him from international matches until further notice after the publication of a video apparently showing him fighting outside a Bristol nightclub. The Test vice-captain was included in England´s Ashes squad announced this week, despite his arrest on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm in the early hours of Monday, after an incident which left him with an injured hand. The unseemly turn of events has left England in a quandary over Stokes, whose ability with both bat and ball makes him that most highly prized of cricketers -- a genuine all-rounder. That was true in more ways than one when this year saw Stokes became the Indian Premier League´s most expensive foreign player when he was signed by the Rising Pune Supergiant for £1.7 million ($2.2 million). He made good on the price-tag by scoring 316 runs at a strike rate of 142.98 and taking 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.18 in the Twenty20 event. Six, six, six, six Stokes´s on-field failures can be as great as his successes -- the prime example being when Carlos Brathwaite hit him for four successive sixes to snatch a stunning win for West Indies in the last over of the 2016 World Twenty20 final. But Stokes, unlike many other players, has forged a successful career in all three international formats and often demonstrates more guile than is suggested by his all-action approach. Nevertheless, his capacity to score quickly, which excites crowds and frustrates opponents in equal measure, is the most eye-catching of a range of talents that also include excellent close-catching. When Carlos Brathwaite hit Stokes for four successive sixes to snatch a stunning win for West Indies in the last over of the 2016 World T20 final The 2015 Lord´s Test against his native New Zealand -- the 26-year-old was born in Christchurch but moved to England with his family as a boy -- saw his innings of 92 and 101 help England regain the initiative, with Stokes taking three wickets as well. His left-handed batting also yielded a remarkable Test innings of 258 from just 198 balls against South Africa in Cape Town in 2016. Stokes can make an impact with the ball too, as he showed while taking six for 36 in the second innings of England´s Ashes-clinching victory against Australia at Trent Bridge two years ago. He has also thrived in a hostile cricket environment, making his maiden Test century against Australia in Perth during the 2013/14 Ashes series where England suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat. ´Class above´ Stokes´s fiery temperament was laid bare when he punched a locker and broke a bone in his right hand after a dismissal in 2014, forcing him to miss that year´s World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. His judgement in nightclubbing this week, during an ODI series against West Indies, may also be questionable but former Australia captain Ian Chappell was in no doubt of his value to the England side. "Stokes is two things -- he´s a class above the rest, and he´s such a match-winner that he drags the team along with him," Chappell told the Wide World of Sports. "If he gets things right and plays really well, he´s the sort of player who can lift the rest of the team. "Without him they (England) are no chance (to win the Ashes)," he added. 'If he gets things right and plays really well, he´s the sort of player who can lift the rest of the team' That helps explain why Stokes was made vice-captain to Test skipper Joe Root, with England coach Trevor Bayliss -- himself an Australian -- saying he was "a leader within this group when it comes to cricket". "If England must do without him, they will be badly damaged before a ball has been bowled (in Australia)," former England captain Michael Atherton wrote in The Times. In one sense England need Stokes more than he needs them, as he is among the first generation who can play Twenty20 tournaments rather than Tests to enjoy a lucrative career. But no one should doubt his pride in playing for England, or the hurt he´ll feel if he does indeed miss the Ashes.
  23. The time has come, people. Google is officially acquiring talent from Taiwanese company HTC to amp up their hardware game and further research and development in a $1.1 billion deal. HTC has been Google's longtime partner and were also the manufacturer of the original Pixel phone. Many of the employees who worked in the Pixel division will be joining Google, according to a report. © Youtube Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Hardware at Google, said: “HTC has been a longtime partner and has created some of the most beautiful, high-end devices on the market. It needs to be clarified that Google has not acquired HTC and the Taiwanese company will continue to work on their own smartphones and VR headsets. The move has been dubbed as an “acquihire” and will cost Google at least half a million dollars per employee. Google is paying ~$500,000 per HTC staff (2,000 staff). Google will now have more experience and flexibility in the hardware game and will now look to expand their product portfolio. Google also poached Apple's Manu Gulati to build their own processors. Gulati was responsible for building Apple's A10x chips which gave the iPad Pro an advantage over the competition. Apple's chips are built-in house instead of by companies like Intel or Qualcomm. Qualcomm currently supplies its Snapdragon processor for Google's Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones.
  24. The Netflix logo is pictured on a television in this photograph, Encinitas, California, US, January 18, 2017. REUTERS/Mike Blake/Files LOS ANGELES: Sunday?s Primetime Emmy winners will take home shiny trophies and bask in congratulations, but their biggest payoff could come in a call from Netflix Inc or Amazon.com Inc. In recent months, the two streaming networks have lured the makers of pioneering shows from broadcast and cable networks with big cash offers and promises of creative freedom. ?Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and the like are really putting their money where their mouth is,? Melissa Rosenberg ? a former writer on Showtime?s Dexter who moved to Netflix to create the dark superhero show Jessica Jones ? said. ?They?re paying creators, extraordinary actors, and for the budgets of shows equal or better than basic cable or network TV,? she said. Some of the television?s biggest names have deserted network and cable for streaming. Netflix enticed Shonda Rhimes away from her longtime home on Walt Disney Co?s ABC, where she developed hits like Grey?s Anatomy and Scandal. It also landed filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen for a western anthology series after their success with a TV spinoff of their movie Fargo on FX. Amazon lured Matthew Weiner ? who put AMC on the map with his Emmy award-winning Mad Men ? to develop an anthology series called The Romanoffs. It also has brought on Robert Kirkman ? the man behind the basic cable network?s current most-watched show The Walking Dead ? to create new shows. Netflix ? which received 91 Emmy nominations this year ? has a shot at winning its first best drama series award with supernatural mystery Stranger Things or British royal saga The Crown, whose reported $130 million budget is the most expensive TV production ever. Hulu?s critically acclaimed The Handmaid?s Tale could bring the joint venture streaming platform its first major Emmys. Still in the race Cable and traditional television are still forces to be reckoned with, though. ?Traditional media companies are scrambling, saying: ?How do we beat back so much money being thrown at TV?'? said Peter Csathy, chairman of media and technology advisory firm CREATV Media. ?The challenge is about compelling storytelling and keeping talent amid those forces,? he added. NBC?s family drama This Is Us could clinch the first best drama series Emmy for one of the four big US broadcasters since 2006, and the Comcast-owned network?s Saturday Night Live is expected to take home an armful of trophies. HBO ? which led the Emmy nominations with 111 nods ? and FX have capitalized on the limited-series format that streaming platforms prefer, with shorter seasons, cinematic-style storytelling, and A-list talent. HBO?s Big Little Lies ? starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, is a front-runner in this category, as is FX?s Feud, which pits Susan Sarandon opposite Jessica Lange. HBO?s The Wizard of Lies lured Robert De Niro to his first major TV role and Emmy nomination for playing disgraced financier Bernie Madoff. One big attraction for broadcast television defectors is the creative freedom offered by streaming. ?Network (TV) is limited by what it can put on air, and it answers to advertisers, so there are a lot of limitations as to how far you can go, whether a character is likeable, edgy, racy,? said Rosenberg. And all the networks are chasing the next Game of Thrones ? HBO?s popular Emmy-winning medieval fantasy series that has become the pinnacle of prestige TV. ?Everyone is looking for a tent-pole show so that they can scream loud and proud to bring audiences and keep them there,? CREATV?s Csathy said. ?Game of Thrones is a poster child for breaking the rules in terms of storytelling and killing off lead characters with reckless abandon,? he said. ?That?s something we traditionally have not seen in television.?
  25. There's nothing that can’t be achieved with the right will power and determination. Twenty-nine-year-old Mandy Harvey lost her hearing ability at the age of 18 due to a disorder. But that didn't stop her from pursuing her dream and hobby - singing. You'd think how could a person continue to learn singing and croon when they can't hear. That’s also probably what the judges and audience at ‘America’s Got Talent’ thought when Mandy stood on stage to sing. © YouTube But if you love something dearly, and put in all your heart into it, even the universe bows down in front of you. Mandy had been learning how to sing from a very early age. But at the age of 18, she got what started as an ear infection but was actually a connective tissue disorder and left her completely deaf. © YouTube She didn’t give up. She continued to learn music and sing. Much of it was through muscle memory, visual tuners and vibrations. It’s only natural that she chose to sing a song called ‘Try’ that she wrote herself.
