Back when Shark Tank India aired, no one thought it would be the rage it is today. From hearing interesting pitches to getting to know more about the entrepreneurs on the panel, there was a lot to talk about while the show was going on, and it seems like there is plenty to talk about even now. © sony pictures televison Especially in terms of memes that serenaded social media and gave trolls meme-fodder for life. From taking famous dialogues and criticism of sharks like Ashneer Grover whose “bhai Kya kar raha hai tu”, went viral, or Pehush Bansal’s fixation on taking up projects that reinstated our faith in humanity, every panellist got to be known for some or the other catchphrase. And one such shark was Namita Thapar, Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals. Shark Tank India has been one of the most talked about things in the country in recent times. Many, who weren't even interested in the start-up culture in the country or news related to businesses, are now locked in conversations with other people to discuss the contestants, the judges, and other things related to the show. We already know that Ashmeet Grover has been in the news for quite some time, having been one of the renowned sharks on the show's panel. However, the other Shark, Namita Thapar is one too, that has a big fan following amongst fans. Namita is the Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals and is one of the most lively judges on the panel of the show. Everyone’s favourite shark for various reasons, Ashneer Grover surprised us all after he resigned as founder and MD of BharatPe today. "I write this with a heavy heart as today I am being forced to bid adieu to a company of which I am a founder. I say with my head held high that today this company stands as a leader in the fintech world. Since the beginning of 2022, unfortunately, I’ve been embroiled in baseless and targeted attacks on me and my family by a few individuals who are ready not only to harm me and my reputation but also harm the reputation of the company, which ostensibly they are trying to protect,” his resignation letter reads. View this post on Instagram BharatPe has been a strong competition in the UPI space for portals like PayTM, PhonePe and GooglePay. The resignation comes in days after his wife Madhuri Jain Grover accused senior management of unprofessional behaviour and was let gone as head of controls herself. The internet is trying to cope with this information and social media is filled with memes and advices for the guy. The first season of Shark Tank India became a topic of discussion on social media and turned out to be a major success. Besides the seven sharks who appeared on the show, its host Rannvijay Singh Singha too found himself being talked about on social media. Mostly, he was the butt of jokes as there were many who wondered about his role in a show that is all about entrepreneurs. Moreover, a video of Rannvijay from the show had also gone viral where he was seen offering an MBA course to an IIT-PhD graduate. No points in guessing, the star host and actor was brutally trolled. Take a look at the meme below: View this post on Instagram Singh has now finally reacted to the memes that were made on him during his tenure as Shark Tank India host. While talking to ETimes, Rannvijay explained the reason behind offering an MBA course to the IIT-PhD graduate and also why he is fine with the memes and spoofs. He said, “I’ve done Splitsvilla and Roadies and by now, I am used to memes, spoofs. The amount and the level of spoofs that were done on us, people can’t even imagine. In fact, some of them actually made a platform out of it. The first spoof that was made on us by a streaming platform, gave that platform recognition. I know this as I like to keep myself current. When Michael Jordan cried they made memes on it, he became current. He is the guy who I follow for many reasons. When a meme is made on you it means you are doing something which is getting noticed and you are current. I know that it is my job as a host on that show and I’ve to do it. I am not there to judge that if you have three other degrees, I should give you this or I shouldn't. "As per the concept of the show, it is the Sharks who decide that you should be given this. Another point is that there are many engineers, who also do an MBA, it is not connected but it’s because they want to cover all their bases. You can do an MBA or engineering from the biggest institutes but you might not know a lot about digital marketing. There’s a possibility. Like I don’t know anything about the law but if someone offers me a law degree I would love to do it. Because I want to know the contracts I am getting into. I always think that law is one thing that I’d always wanted to do. A person who is well educated, that person will always understand the value of an extra degree or education.” © Instagram/Rannvijay Singh Further talking about why memes on a show are a good thing, he said, “It’s actually funny. I won't deny that somebody is from IIT, you are giving them a course in something else. Meme means that people are so involved in the show and they are watching the show and know everything about that person. I like that factor and it keeps me current. It’s giving me an opportunity for the media to ask me a question and express myself. Further stating how he has absolutely no qualms about the memes on him being spread, Ranvijay further said, "people found that moment funny and meme-worthy and I don’t feel bad about it because I’ve seen a lot during the early stage of my career when I was 20-23 and had just started doing Roadies. People were trying to ban the shows we were doing, people wouldn’t allow the auditions of our shows in the city to happen. Memes are the best thing that can happen to a new show, that's what I feel. Because other people who don’t watch the show, they get their attention as well towards our show. I feel once you start taking jokes on yourself, you can lead a very peaceful life. I love watching the amount of creativity that people put in while creating these memes.” View the full article

Shark Tank India started airing in India on December 20, 2021, last year and ended its season one on February 4, 2022. Ever since the show aired, it grabbed eyeballs, made headlines and became a talking point on social media. Now, the show has found itself in a new scoop after an entrepreneur claimed that he was one of the contestants on the show but his episode wasn’t aired for reasons unknown to him. © Sony TV YouTube He also blamed the “Sharks” and lashed out at them - Ashneer Grover, Aman Gupta and Peyush Bansal, in particular. Taking to Twitter, entrepreneur Akshay Shah, founder and CEO iWeb, went on a rant as he tweeted, “So we had featured in #sharktankindia too but our episode has not been telecast due to reasons best known to the Channel & Sharks however I am putting down a thread for the benefit of all my entrepreneurial brethren and the public in general on Shark Tank India.” He further wrote about the process and how he was asked to present his pitch in Hindi even though “at times your USP can get diluted but that's how the scheme of things is.” He accused the channel of favouritism and stated, “some guys are given more practice and attention from the 1st day and if I can connect the dots I feel they are the channel's so-called recommendation to the Sharks to invest, with whom they spend less time are maybe the backups or wild cards who are left in the tank to test their luck, we were one of them.” © Sony TV He continued saying, “My wife who is also our director sales and my 11-year-old daughter were also called for the side kick and TRPs :)”. Further, he admitted that his “business is not straightforward and with pivots and a business model second to none, we tried our best to make the pitch as simple as possible and had it telecast am sure the Common Man would have understood and fellow entrepreneurs benefitted but where we feel the problem was, is the Sharks! Technically, we have as much business exposure as the Sharks sitting on the other side and since our Business Model is second to none and a bit against one of the Shark's Business Model is where the games began :).” Explaining his business model, he said that it directly went against Ashneer Grover’s business of zero MDR. “So when we said we have 700k students with us, his exact was "Data to Kilo ke Bhaav main Chandni Chowk pe bikta hai!!" My reply to Mr Grover is, sir, this is not a name place animal thing data like you might be capturing in BharatPe to show GMV and gain valuation & funding,” Shah said. © Sony TV He then went on to slam boAt founder Aman Gupta who had a problem with the name and logo of their company. “So my reply to Aman is, Sirjee! yeh koi USB headset nai, that aasani se samaj aa jayega, thoda vakt lagega this is hightech :) Secondly, trust me, till date I have not understood why is boAt called boAt and your company called Imagine Marketing Limited, but I can't ask, right!!!” He then added, “If someday tables turn, I will ask him the same question in the same arrogant tone and with the same expression he did that to us. I mean, we are in SharkTank, selected from over thousands of applicants so the channel and their team would have done some due diligence, right? Thoda to respect do fellow entrepreneurs ko, am here to pitch my business not take a brand name approval from you, Mr Shark!!!” © Sony TV Shah then said that Namita Thapar was kind to them and even debated with Ashneer Grover to be respectful towards their grit but questioned her why she didn’t opt out of other tech pitches as she opted out of theirs after saying she had no understanding of it. He then targeted Peyush Bansal and said, “Next came in was LensKart #PeeyushBansal who had started up an Education discovery platform before he started LensKart and since he could not monetize nor run it nor earn via its marketplace his fixation was that this can't scale up!” Anupam Mittal had an issue with that one Gujarati line that Shah used in his pitch which he claims was the channel's idea. He said, “Last came in the shaadi(.)com hero Mr #anupammittal who also had a serious problem with me pitching 1 line in gujarati which is my native language which I had done only and only at the behest of the channel to make the pitch a bit entertaining. We had rehearsed this time and again with the channel creative and they had even advised me to use a few more gujju words just to keep the pitch light but alas it seems the Sharks were not as well trained as we were and hence twice I was asked by Mr Mittal why did I say 1 line in Gujarati as if that pierced him like a bullet - to which I had to retort that I am a gujju so it came naturally (although I wanted to say go and ask the channel creative sirjee if this hurts u so much as its they who told me to speak this line in Gujarati!” © Sony TV Signing off, he wrote, “Cheers and thanks for reading, hope this helps and remember 1 thing, Raja raja hota hai, chahe bada ho ya chota, doesn't matter, I said the same to Rannvijay post shoot when he asked me how I am feeling, I even told him god willing I challenge the so called Sharks and will replace them in the years to come on the show and do real justice to my fellow entrepreneurs with humility as I have been on the other side of the table too :) Cheers!!!” Take a look at his long Twitter thread below: So we had featured in #sharktankindia too but our episode has not been telecast due to reasons best known to the Channel & Sharks however I am putting down a thread for the benefit of all my entrepreneurial brethren and the public in general on Shark Tank India. — Akshay Shah - Founder CEO, iWeb (@AkshayiWeb) February 5, 2022entrepreneurs benefitted but where we feel the problem was, is the Sharks! Fashion designer Niti Singhal was one of the 198 contestants on the business based-reality show Shark Tank India. She had pitched her business model Twee in One which was rejected by “Shark” Ashneer Grover who was harsh in his criticism. He had said, “Bahut hi ganda fashion hai yeh (It’s terrible fashion). Nobody will wear this in my house. Aap yeh band kar do (You should close it down). Why are you wasting your time?. I am used to it. Even mentors in the fashion industry said a few harsh things over the years. So I have received criticism, of course not as harsh as Ashneer's. But since I have, it has made me thick-skinned. I believe in my product so I have the confidence to face all criticism. And in the end, any PR is good PR, even if people are talking bad about it.” She further added, “They actually cut his speech half. He actually spoke twice so you can imagine the amount of things I heard. They were sweet enough to edit it out. It went on for a long time. But not like unke bolne se mera business band hoga (It's not as if his comments will shut my business). I was just thinking it's good. But the funny thing is that his wife Madhuri was wearing the dress I gifted him on The Kapil Sharma Show. It's kind of funny since he always says, 'Yeh sab dogalapan hai' but I was reminded of that line when I saw it.” View the full article

Season 1 of Shark Tank India swept people across the country with a craze that hadn’t been seen before. And while the first season ended a couple of days back, the series came with its highs and lows, enough for us to still be talking about it. © Twitter While there were many entrepreneurs and engineers who impressed the Sharks and us with their revolutionary ideas, there were some who left us with more questions than answers. Here are some of the weirdest pitches from Shark Tank India that have honestly left us scratching our heads, echoing Ashneer’s words - “Bhai Kya Kar Raha Hai Tu”? © Sony Liv 1. Poo De Cologne Poo de cologne almost managed to impress the Sharks before they were politely rejected by the panel collectively as they believed the product didn’t have the legs to work in the Indian market, at least not in its current form. © Twitter 2. Tween In One A two-in-one dress isn’t really a ground-breaking invention, however, Tween In One missed the mark by having garments that greatly suffered in the fashion department. They might want to get a designer on board before their next pitch. View this post on Instagram 3. Sippline We felt second-hand embarrassment when Sippline was being pitched to the Sharks. The product was touted as a ‘must-have’ in a post-Covid world where everyone’s trying to be safe and careful with their hygienic practices. It’s basically a protective plastic cover that can be attached to the side of one’s glass. But as expected, it didn’t take much time for the entire thing to come down like a house of cards, with Ashneer and Aman being the first of the sharks to opt-out of the pitch. And we don’t blame them for not wanting to invest in solving a problem that barely exists in the place. View this post on Instagram4. Green Protein Ashneer raised alarms around the black currant being too sugary, or “poori cheeni” as he said, while Aman just couldn’t get himself to down the glass he was served, making faces even. 5. Gol Nabhi Hands down the weirdest pitch of the lot has to be the Gol Nabhi by Shrawani Engineers from Nagpur. It was so weird that we can’t even blame the judges for containing their amusement either. And the belly dance or whatever it was only made the whole experience stranger. Which of these products did you find the weirdest? Let us know in the comments. View the full article

Shark Tank India is easily the most watched and the most entertaining show for Indians at the moment. The best part is that the whole family gets to become a couch potato in peace, while beautifully passing judgements to the candidates. Amidst this fun, a new meme has found its way on the internet. As you might know, Rannvijay Singha is currently being seen on the show promoting an MBA degree from Upgrad. Shark Tank India, the Indian adaptation of the popular American reality show Shark Tank started airing from December 20 and caught the attention of the audience in the country. The show features Rannvijay Singh Singha as a host and the “Sharks” include Ashneer Grover (BharatPe Founder), Aman Gupta (Co-founder boAt), Anupam Mittal (founder Shaadi.com), Ghazal Alagh (Co-founder MamaEarth), Namita Thapar (Executive Director Emcure Pharmaceuticals), Peyush Bansal (Co-founder Lenskart) and Vineeta Singh (Co-founder Sugar Cosmetics). Ashneer Grover trolled Rannvijay saying they are having a wrap party later this week and maybe the host wasn’t invited. He jokingly said, “There is a party on the 4th. Rannvijay, tere ko bulaya nahi lag raha hai (Maybe you aren't invited)” leaving others in splits. Responding to Grover’s roast, Rannvijay added, “Nahi bulaya (I'm not invited). Main party ke baahar flyers bech raha hounga (I'll be selling flyers outside the party).” View this post on Instagram During the chat, Rannvijay asked about the thing they will miss the most as the show comes to an end. Agar nahi bulaaya I'll say bekaar tha sab (Now let's see whether they call me next year or not. If they don't, I'll say it was all rubbish)”. On the other hand, Anupam Mittal said, “Will miss the entourage, make-up wala, stylist, two bodyguards and all that”. To this, Namita Thapar added, "I want to put it on record that the men took longer to get ready than the women. The thing about putting 5 to 7 influential, super successful and competitive entrepreneurs in a room - apart from brewing some interesting and top off the chart business ideas or controversy, is that it also often gives rise to ego clashes. Yes, the show is about people like you and I coming to pitch their ideas and seek funding, but the other aspect of it is also to get at least one shark or more sharks on board, and that can lead to some unfiltered debates between the sharks on the panel as well. © Sony Pictures Television As was the case recently when Anupam Mittal, Shaadi.com CEO and founder got hurt over something that BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover had said while trying to woo a contestant into choosing his offer over Anupam’s. Ashneer said, “Isne ek brand banaya, maine do brand banaye. Maine BharatPe bhi banaya, maine PostPe bhi banaya, pehle maine Grofers bhi banaya, toh brand ki toh baat mat karo mere se (He built just one brand, whereas I built BharatPe, PostPe and before that, I built Grofers. So, don’t try to teach me about building a brand).” And while he was just stating a fact, perhaps his way of delivering that truth bomb was a little too insensitive and that is what ended up hurting the sentiments of Anupam Mittal, who is one of the most successful entrepreneurs at his age right now. Talk to me once you build that.’ I said it on the show, I am not saying it behind his back. When you tell yourself that, you understand, ‘People will tell you anything to feel better, it doesn’t mean…’ You can only be put down if you allow yourself to be put down. I don’t give anybody that privilege.” And while such tough words were exchanged over the topic where Ashneer Grover might have rubbed Anupam Mittal the wrong way with his brazen words, no love was lost between the two ‘Sharks’.
