  1. Shadab Khan, Asif Ali dropped Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s catch while bumping into each other with a force which became a subject for memes
  2. The T20 World Cup 2021 will start just three days after the Indian Premier League 2021 final will in the United Arab Emirates. As a result, the Indian cricket team does not have a lot of time to make replacements in the squad, if they wish to make some. View this post on InstagramHowever, reports have emerged that the chances of Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya getting dropped from the roster have increased significantly, especially after the previous match played between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Even though Pandya batted magnificently as he scored an unbeaten 40 off 30 deliveries, concerns about his ability as a bowler remained unchecked as Rohit Sharma didn’t allow him any overs. The Chairman of Selectors had said Hardik will bowl 4 overs in games. He hasn’t bowled even 1 yet. He is the pace bowling all rounder and India has gone in with 1 fast bowler less. — Boria Majumdar (@BoriaMajumdar) September 26, 2021 According to MI’s bowling coach Shane Bond, the reason for Pandya not bowling is because the franchise is trying to look out for the needs and requirements of the Indian cricket team ahead of the world cup, while also looking out for the franchise as well. “We’re obviously balancing the needs of our team and the needs of team India as well. It’s the one thing that this franchise does really well… is look after its players with an eye not only to win this competition but an eye to the World Cup that’s coming up as well,” Bond had said. View this post on InstagramUnder such circumstances, Shardul Thakur’s name has appeared as the front-runner to serve as a replacement for Pandya, especially due to the kind of similar roles the two cricketers play for Virat Kohli - a pacer with the ability to bat in the middle order. While there is no denying the fact that Pandya, at his best, remains a clear-cut pick for the Indian squad, the facts that he failed to even show up on the field during MI’s first two matches in the second leg of IPL 2021 and that he hasn’t been in the best of forms in international cricket for a while, increases the possibility of him getting left out of the Playing XI. View this post on InstagramAlternatively, Shreyas Iyer’s name has also emerged as the better replacement if Pandya’s selection criterion was based purely on his batting skills. Iyer’s shoulder is completely recovered and he has been in great form ever since his return to the field in the second half of the IPL. View the full article
  3. Ajinkya Rahane has finally decided to drop the ‘good boy’ avatar and has started addressing or responding to his critics who do not feel he belongs in the Indian Test cricket team anymore. Before the third Test between India and England in Leeds’ Headingley Carnegie cricket which begins on Wednesday, the Team India deputy-in command spoke about how he is enjoying the fact that the haters are talking about Cheteshwar Pujara and his position in the squad. View this post on Instagram "I am happy that people are talking about me. I have always believed that people talk about important people, so I am not too concerned about that. It's all about contribution for the team," Rahane said. "I always believed in contribution and that contribution was satisfying. You think about your own game but team performance is ultimate. You think about your methods, your good innings and what suits you but ultimately whatever team needs we focus on that." View this post on Instagram "The communication was all about short targets and build it on from there. Cheteshwar, we always talk that he plays slow but that innings was really important for us. He batted for 200 balls. We back each other," he said. Up until the first innings of the match, Rahane’s form looked dicey as he was unable to put runs on the board and ended up losing his wicket to England veteran James Anderson on the 23rd delivery after scoring a solitary run. View this post on Instagram However, it was the second innings in which Rahane forced the critics to eat their words when he anchored the batting order with his steady and masterful batting alongside Cheteshwar Pujara after the top order of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dismissed for a total of 55 runs. Pujara and Rahane stitched a 100-run partnership during which the former scored 45 runs while eating up 205 deliveries while Rahane struck 61 runs in 146 balls to not only help India reach a respectable total but also spend the crucial moments of the penultimate day, which could have made the victory easier for the hosts had he gotten out sooner. View this post on Instagram "Cheteshwar and I have been playing since long, we know how to handle pressure, how to handle certain situations. Whatever we can't control, we are not thinking about that," Rahane said. View the full article
  4. According to the recent reports by IANS, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has a net worth of a whopping Rs. 14,489.80 (at the end of financial year 2018-19) and earned over Rs. 4,000 crore during the said FY. Almost half of this income (Rs 2,407.46 crore) came from the Indian Premier League season that they held in 2018, making it not only the most powerful cricket board in the world but also the wealthiest. According to IANS, BCCI was worth ₹14,489.80 crore at the end of the financial year 2018-19. #Cricket — Usman Akhtar (@usmanakhtar_) January 6, 2021 However, after the conclusion of the 13th season of the IPL in the United Arab Emirates, news of the Indian cricket board expanding league became mainstream. BCCI confirmed that they will be looking to add two more franchises in the league making the total number of teams go up to 10. While the addition of the two teams was to be done to the 2021 season of the league, the lack of time due to the coronavirus pandemic threw that plan out the window and the 2022 season looks to be the big one. The BCCI has signaled the likely addition of two new teams to the #IPL ⤵ — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) December 3, 2020 But how much will it cost for potential team owners to get associated with the illustrious organisation? According to reports, it would have to be at least Rs. 1,500 crore. “Nothing has been officially discussed about the base price as yet. But during BCCI AGM we discussed the matter informally. Ownership of IPL team is now a very prized asset and we feel the base price for the new IPL team will be nothing less than 1500 Cr or probably more,” the official said as quoted by Inside Sport. “IPL GC will decide the base price and tender timelines. In 2018, JSW took 50% of Delhi Capitals (At that time Delhi Daredevils) at a valuation of 1100 Cr. We know the valuation for the teams are increasing by every edition. Moreover, our new Media Rights tender is due, it will further enhance the valuation for teams. So the base price of 1500-1600 cr is not far fetched,” added the official. View the full article
