  1. Anwar is Pakistan?s only left-handed batter to compile more than 10,000 runs in international cricket
  2. From Ravichandran Ashwin’s tactical retired out to Marcus Stonis’ batting position, the Match 20 of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) gave the fans plenty of things to talk about. The entertainment was not limited to the field. Even the commentators were in a jovial mood during the match and we saw that during the hilarious banter inside the comm box between two renowned commentators. Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar poked his fellow commentator from England Alan Wilkins over the issue of the world-famous Kohinoor diamond which now sits on the throne of Queen Elizabeth 2. Another instance that became a talking point on social networking sites was the voice of the TV umpire Paschim Pathak. The reason why people were confused was that Pathak sounded like legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who has a very unique voice. 4. On Wednesday, batsman Sachin Tendulkar praised the Marylebone Cricket Club's (MCC) decision to remove run-out at the non-striker’s end from unfair play laws, but experienced England pacer Stuart Broad criticised the decision as "unfair". The MCC, as the custodian of cricket laws, has chosen to relocate the law dealing with non-end striker's run-outs from its "unfair play" section. It refers to hitters backing up too far at the non-striker’s end which has frequently sparked heated discussions about the spirit of the game. Several players, including Ravichandran Ashwin, India's top off-spinner, have argued that it is a fair method of dismissal. However, Tendulkar has always objected to the term "Mankaded" being used to describe his dismissal. The MCC committee introduced new rules in cricket, and he was supportive of a handful of them. ‘Mankading dismissal’ is the first one. Tendulkar expressed his displeasure with the term "Mankaded" being used to describe his dismissal. Cricket is a beautiful sport. It allows us to challenge existing norms and help refine laws of the game. Some of the changes introduced by MCC are praiseworthy.#CricketTwitter pic.twitter.com/bet0pakGQM — Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) March 9, 2022 In a video shared by his from his official Twitter handle, the Indian legend expressed his delight at the move to a clear and basic run-out, claiming that it should have always been run out in his opinion. He also stated that he was not at ease with everything, but that would no longer be the case. Englishman Broad, on the other hand, called the MCC's decision to legalise 'Mankading,' a run-out dismissal at the non-end, striker's "unfair," claiming it needs "zero skill." Every One Know that Kapil Dev ManKaded Peter Kirsten in Tour Of South Africa 1992-93 & @therealkapildev looks angry after that. For instance, until now, any fielder who moved in an unsportsmanlike manner was simply given a 'Dead ball,' potentially cancelling a perfectly executed shot by the batter. The batting team will now be awarded 5 penalty runs because the action was both unjust and intentional. The new rules also make it illegal to use spit on the ball, removing any potential grey areas that could exist if fielders ate sugary sweets and then altered their saliva to apply to the ball. The use of saliva will be treated the same as any other unethical method of modifying the state of the ball. View the full article
  5. Throughout his stellar career, former India captain Virat Kohli has been compared to batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on several occasions. Kohli's stats and consistency at his best were so impressive that many predicted he would match, if not surpass, Tendulkar's Test and ODI records. While Kohli has denied any parallels, claiming that Tendulkar is one of the greatest cricketers of all time and one of the reasons he began playing the game, the comparisons have remained anytime Kohli smashed a record held by the Little Master. Tendulkar has now weighed in on the subject. He has not, however, prioritised one over the other, as is usual for the 48-year-old. When asked which of the two of them is the best cricketer in a rapid-fire set of questions, he said to Graham Bensinger in an interview on the latter's YouTube channel, "How about having both of us in one team." This is where Virat Kohli fans have gotten upset with the Indian legend. They feel that instead of taking the easy way out of such a debate, the ‘Master Blaster’ should have acted like the bigger person and called Kohli the better player. While suggesting that if and when Kohli is being asked this question, he has always maintained that Tendulkar has been greater and better than him, they suggested that it is this difference between the two cricket superstars that makes the 33-year old the better pick. If you any time ask the same question to Virat, he will definitely say Sachin. Difference. https://t.co/W208gpTwoD — Suhit Data (@suhit_data) February 17, 2022People saying in comments/quotes that he should say Sachin only since he is junior. Many even expressed that while the two players are great in their respective eras, the fact that Virat has formerly expressed that Sachin was his idol growing up, simply renders the question ineffective and ends the debate even before it starts. Because Sachin Tendulkar is inspiration of virat not other way — #Gorkha #MI (@AkkiSrt) February 17, 2022The kinda expecation to expect everyone to speak the same line endorsed by self is why indian cricket twitter is such a toxic space. Wtf should sachin not say what he wants and say what you want? — All things cricket. (@Allthingscrick4) February 17, 2022Those who r saying virat is better or saying stuff like this difference nd all these r perfect examples of blind pans Sachin is on another level je can't be compared to anyone nd those who show numbers remember Sachin player with rules which favoured bowlers more than rules today — Daisy's Assistant || Saw NWH (@quakecoulson) February 17, 2022Because virat started playing cricket after watching sachin,SACHIN is the sole reason why cricket became famous in india, sachin was is and will be the GREATEST EVER. — Harshit (@6forty8) February 18, 2022 Kohli had previously stated that comparing the two is unfair to Tendulkar. While talking to Gaurav Kapur in Breakfast With Champions, he had expressed that only those who are worthy of comparison may be compared. If people were comparing him to someone who inspired him to take up cricket in the first place, it does not even make sense. Kohli said that he felt that Sachin was the most well-rounded batter in history. He added that the Mumbai legend doesn't deserve to be compared to the current generation of cricketers because of the kind of contributions he has made for Team India and cricket as a sport. 6. Sports fans love to compare players from different generations. Rather than admiring the greatness of all the top players while we can, for some reason, fans always enjoy pitting one great player against the other. The same holds true for cricket as well. Earlier, the debate used to be between Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar and now, the pendulum has shifted to Virat Kohli. © Reuters Who is a better batter among Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli? Although their international careers overlapped, both the players belonged to different generations, which makes it an extremely difficult question to answer. In a career spanning nearly a quarter of a century, Tendulkar shattered all kinds of batting records and entered the record books. For many, he is the greatest player to have played the game. © Reuters His achievements are enough to make anyone feel small in front of him but not Kohli. The former India skipper is one of the best players of the modern generation and his stellar records explain why people love comparing him to the player who is regarded as the ‘God Of Cricket’. No other batter has dominated the world of cricket like Kohli in the last decade. What sets him apart from his counterparts is that he has scored runs all over the globe, across all three formats of the game. © Reuters If there is one player who is expected to overhaul or get anywhere near Tendulkar’s record, it’s Kohli, which makes him an automatic choice for the comparison. During an interview with Australian journalist Graham Bensinger, on his YouTube channel, the world’s leading-run scorer was posed the same age-old question – Who is a better cricketer, Sachin or Virat? The ‘Master Blaster’ gave a simple one-line answer which clearly expressed what he thought about this whole comparison thing. He replied: “How about having both of us in one team?”. Both the players have an enviable record. But there are several reasons why we shouldn’t compare them. First and foremost, while Tendulkar has retired, Kohli is still playing. © Twitter/BCCI Secondly, they both played in different eras with different sets of rules and regulations and faced different bowling attacks. Us fans should at least wait for Kohli’s career to end and only then we can have a clear idea of where he stands against the world’s most prolific run-scorer. View the full article
  7. There hasn’t been a more influential figure in Indian cricket than Sachin Tendulkar. The ‘Master Blaster’ ruled the hearts of every Indian cricket fan for nearly a quarter of a century. In a cricket-mad country like India, living up to people’s expectations is not easy but the Mumbai-born did that exceedingly well throughout his international career that spanned 24 years, starting in 1989 and culminating in 2013. © Reuters The day the world’s leading run-scorer retired from international cricket, it was a sad day for all of us – not just in India all over the world. Most of us had grown up watching him play cricket and the very thought that we would not be able to see arguably the world’s greatest cricketer don the India jersey ever again had made all of us pretty emotional. © Reuters As much difficult it was for us, it was equally painful for the legend himself. After all, he was walking away from one thing that had formed an important part of his life all these years. Recalling the emotions he went through on the day of his retirement back in 2013, the 48-year-old said that it was hard for him to control his emotions and tears kept flowing down his eyes, while he was sitting inside the dressing room. © Reuters Not just us fans, it was an emotional day for the whole team, especially those young players who had started playing cricket because of him. One such player who was lucky enough to share the dressing room with him in his last match was Virat Kohli. During an interaction with Graham Bensinger on his YouTube channel, the former India opener said that sitting in a corner with a towel on his head, he was wiping his tears and that is when Kohli came to him and gave him a sacred thread that his late father had given him. “I was sitting in one corner alone with a towel on my head and wiping tears and I was really emotional. And at that time, Virat had come to me and Virat gave me the sacred thread that his father had given him,” Tendulkar said during the candid chat. It was a wonderful gesture from young Kohli but given what it meant to him, Tendulkar said he just couldn’t take it as it was given to him by his late father as a blessing. © Reuters “And I kept that for a while and then returned that to him again. I said, ‘This is priceless and this has to stay with you and no one else. This is your property. And you should have it till your last breath.’ And I gave it back to him. So that was an emotional moment, something which will be always there in my memory, forever,” he added. It was the most valuable possession Kohli had with him, and the fact that he was willing to part with that just goes on show how much respect and admiration he had for the legendary batter. 8. Arjun Tendulkar once again, as expected, went to the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians. Arjun, son of legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, was also a part of the Mumbai-based franchise last year but he did not get to play a single match as he was ruled out of the tournament midway due to an injury. Even before his name went under the hammer, fans and probably all the franchises expected him to go to Mumbai Indians. However, scenes were different this time around as a cheeky bid by one of the new franchises saw Mumbai having to pay 10 lakh extra to get back Arjun in their side. 10. Amitabh Bacchan, the veteran actor, has apologized to his followers for distributing a false commercial. The 79-year old, who is also the Legends League Cricket's brand ambassador, appeared in a promotional video for the next competition. The name ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ was also included in the teaser, as supporters awaited the return of the former Indian batsman, the master blaster. However, Tendulkar's management business, SRT Sports Management Private Limited, later clarified that the batting legend will not be participating in the competition. Fans were enraged at the error, and social media was swamped with criticism of the organisers. Big B was also investigated for disseminating false information. Following Sachin's company's clarifying tweet, Amitabh apologised to the fans and posted the updated commercial, which did not include Tendulkar's name. “T 4152 – CORRECTION : Legends League Cricket T20 , FINAL promo .. apologies .. and regrets for any inconvenience caused .. the error was inadvertent .. #legendsleaguecricket #bosslogonkagame,” the legendary actor wrote on Twitter. 11. Sachin Tendulkar is arguably one of the finest ever to have played the game of cricket. In a career spanning over two decades, Sachin achieved almost every record that is there for the taking by a batter. In such a long career, Tendulkar, on many occasions, was on the receiving end of some harsh calls by the on-field umpires. Despite dealing with howlers throughout his career, Tendulkar was never a fan of introducing technology into the game. It was largely because of him that India didn't trust the decision review system for a long time before it was made mandatory by the ICC. View this post on Instagram With the game becoming more and more favourable for the batters, an incident that took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday prompted a suggestion from the Little Master. In the fourth Ashes Test, Ben Stokes survived a close call after a Cameron Green delivery came back in sharply and hit the off-stump, but fortunately for the England all-rounder, the bail didn't come off and he continued his innings. partnership #Ashes #PinkTest pic.twitter.com/Ai2yAverEv — Jane McGrath’s Barmy Army (@TheBarmyArmy) January 7, 2022 It was such a shocker of an incident that the on-field umpire Paul Reiffel thought the ball had hit Stokes' pads and gave him out LBW. Stokes immediately challenged the call and once the replays confirmed that he was not out, he couldn't stop laughing looking at the turn of events. Tendulkar posted a video of the incident on Twitter and came up with a suggestion to introduce a new rule in a bid to make the game fairer for bowlers. "Should a law be introduced called ‘hitting the stumps’ after the ball has hit them but not dislodged the bails? What do you think guys? Let’s be fair to bowlers," Tendulkar wrote on Twitter. 13. The trailer of filmmaker Kabir Khan’s 83 has caught everyone’s attention on social media. Starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Pankaj Tripathi among others, the trailer has been receiving a lot of love from netizens as well as celebs. While many are already in awe of Ranveer’s portrayal of legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, there is one Twitter user who spotted a rather interesting and unexpected character in the trailer of the Kabir Khan directorial. Besides featuring several iconic cricketers of the 70s and 80s, 83 trailer also features a shot of a character based on young Sachin Tendulkar. It is a known fact that 83 is based on the Indian cricket team’s historic World Cup win in 1983, which means at that time Sachin was barely 10 years old. At the 3-minute mark in the trailer, there is a shot of the general Indian public celebrating the Indian cricket team’s win. The focus of that shot is on a young kid with curly hair. A Twitter user shared the screenshot from the trailer and asked if it was supposed to be young Sachin Tendulkar. Turns out, it is in fact a character based on the legendary Indian cricketer. The editor of 83, Nitin Baid responded to the tweet with a simple “Yes”. 14. As the Mumbai Indians exited the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League having failed to make it to the playoffs this year, an old video has been going viral in which wicket-keeper and batter Ishan Kishan could be seen behaving like a nervous schoolboy in front of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Kishan, who was struggling to have himself a decent run in the initial days of the season, managed to return to his form with just a couple of matches remained for Rohit Sharma’s squad. View this post on InstagramFeeling confident and showing faith in himself, the southpaw was showing off his swag in the MI dressing room. After the match between MI and DC earlier this month, the 23-year old had his earbuds on, his bag over his shoulders, his phone in his hands, and sunglasses on his eyes. This is probably why it took him some time to realise that Tendulkar was also present in the room and that he was out of line for behaving like a child in front of the man who is known as ‘The God of Cricket’. View this post on InstagramHaving said that, once Kishan spotted the all-time great sitting in one corner of the dressing room, he quickly got rid of the bag, took off the earbuds and sunglasses almost as if he had seen his angry school principal. With a boyish smile, the Patna-born fixed his hair as well and walked towards Tendulkar, presumably to seek an apology. View this post on Instagram As the rest of the teammates witnessed the whole episode unfold, it was evident that Tendulkar was also enjoying being present in front of the young batter during such a hilarious moment. Without hesitation, the 48-year old offered a smile, making other MI teammates loosen up a bit. Vice-captain and West Indies great Kieron Pollard was also seen laughing at the whole scenario but banging on his knee hysterically. View this post on Instagram Kishan’s return to form could not have come at a more opportune time, especially with the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 about to start in the same Venue as IPL 2021. 15. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and his family members are among several high-profile Indians who have been named in ‘Pandora Papers’ -- the biggest ever leak, exposing the offshore financial records of some of the world’s richest people, including world leaders, politicians, celebrities, and billionaires. The former India cricketer along with his wife Anjali Tendulkar and father-in-law Anand Mehta have been named as Beneficiary Owners (BO) and Directors of an offshore company in the British Virgin Islands-based company (BVI) Saas International Limited, said a report in The Indian Express, which was one of several media outlets part of this investigation. The firm was liquidated in July 2016, three months after the Panama Papers leak. View this post on Instagram The world’s biggest expose of offshore financial assets was done by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), which included 150 media outlets in different parts of the world. “People linked by the secret documents to offshore assets include India’s cricket superstar Sachin Tendulkar, pop music diva Shakira, supermodel Claudia Schiffer and an Italian mobster known as ‘Lell the Fat One’” the ICIJ said in its report as stated by news agency PTI. The report stated that Tendulkar’s attorney has said that all the investments were legitimate and that the same was declared to the Indian tax authorities. © Twitter Sachin Tendulkar “Mr Tendulkar’s attorney said the cricket player’s investment is legitimate and has been declared to tax authorities,” it added. In a country where many consider him the ‘God of Cricket’, watching his name in the world’s biggest financial expose has left people divided. 18. The Indian cricket team was caught by surprise on Day 1 of the third Test against England at Leeds’ Headingley Carnegie cricket ground as they were all out at 78 and the skipper Virat Kohli was made to look like an amatuer after getting caught behind once again on a James Anderson delivery. Kohli scored just 7 runs off 17 deliveries before having to hang his head and walk back to the dressing room. Once again, it was an Anderson masterclass of swing and control which showed why he enjoys the reputation he has in the longest format of the game for over decades. View this post on Instagram Kohli’s tried certain “jugadu” tactics as well in which he had marked the stumps on the crease to stop himself from overcommitting and going for the balls falling fifth or sixth stump channels. That has clearly had no impact on the batsman’s instrict to play these shots. After watching the captain get outsmarted by his greatest rival on this tour once again, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar had some advice for Kohli - to call the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, accept the fact that he needs help, and follow what the master blaster did when he was going through a slump to remedy it as soon as possible. View this post on Instagram “He should give a quick call to SRT (Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar) and ask what should I do?," said Gavaskar on air on Wednesday. “[He should] Do what Sachin Tendulkar did at Sydney. Say to himself that I am not going to play the cover drive". “That is a bit of a worry for me, because he is getting dismissed at the fifth, sixth and even seventh stump. In 2014, he was getting out more around the off-stump," added Gavaskar while pointing to the fact that he is being drawn into playing outside the off-stump. View this post on Instagram This is for the third time in four innings that Kohli has played during this Test series in England that he has gotten dismissed while trying to play a loose shot and gave away an outside edge for a caught-behind. It was also for the 23rd time that Anderson got the better of Kohli in the red-ball format, making him the co-owner of the record for most Virat Kohli dismissals by a bowler in Test cricket, which is also shared by Australia’s Nathan Lyon. 19. Skipper Virat Kohli is hogging all the limelight ever since India defeated England in the second Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground to go 1-0 up in the five-match series. With this win, Kohli has once again established his position as one of the best captains in world cricket and he deserves all the praise that he is receiving. View this post on Instagram While his leadership skills have made everyone a fan, one should not forget that Kohli is going through a lean patch for quite some time now. His failure with the bat in the first two Test matches has been a major cause of concern for the visitors, something they would love to sort out before heading into the third Test in Leeds. Not just fans but even legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaksar are worried because Kohli has started making the same mistakes which he made during his first tour of England way back in 2014. © Reuters Kohli has played three innings so far on this tour and the mode of dismissal has been the same on each occasion -- an outside edge straight to the wicket-keeper or the slip cordon. ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar feels Kohli is struggling because his anxiety levels are high due to slow start to the tour and his mind is forcing him to overcompensate his movements inside the crease that we generally don’t expect of a player of his calibre. “Virat hasn’t had a great start. It is the mind that leads to technical errors and if the start isn’t good you start thinking about a lot of things. Because anxiety levels are high you tend to over compensate your movements,” Tendulkar told PTI in an exclusive interview. © Reuters “When a batsman isn’t in good form you either go too far across or don’t move your feet at all. That happens to everyone. Form is also your state of mind along with the body working in harmony,” said Tendulkar, the leading run-scorer in world cricket. More than England fast bowlers’s brilliant bowling, Kohli’s dismissals are of his own doing, says Gavaksar, because he is lacking confidence and is getting out reaching out for deliveries which are bowled way outside off stump. © RCB Tweets "That method has been successful for him. He has got 8000 Test runs with that back and across movement. But he is playing at deliveries way outside off stump and a little too early in the innings. This time around, the foot is somewhere else, the bat is somewhere else, which means that he hasn’t really played well. It could be about this much-talked-about word intent but in a five-day game, every batsman goes in to score runs. It’s the method that differs," Gavaskar said on the Sony Sports Network. Kohli has been key to the team's success in the longest format for several years now and if he wants to beat England in a Test series in their own backyard, he can’t afford to make the same mistakes again and again and give his wicket to the opposition.
