Never in their life the Ukrainian athletes thought they would have to drop their gears and instead wear bullet-proof jackets and take up arms just so that they could live freely in their own country. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has left the normal Ukrainians with no choice but to grab a rifle to protect their motherland. © Reuters They say desperate times call for desperate measures and we are now seeing more and more Ukrainian citizens, including some of their well-renowned athletes, taking up guns to stop the Russian troops from making further inroads into their territory. A few days ago, former Ukrainian tennis star Sergiy Stakhovsky also posted a picture on Instagram, where he could be seen wearing an army uniform and holding an assault rifle in his hand. Through his post he told the whole world he has taken up arms to stop Russia’s aggression in his homeland. View this post on Instagram Stakhovsky said he had never imagined a situation where he would have to wear a bulletproof vest in the capital city of Kyiv. Calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “disaster”, he urged the whole world to unite against the Russian President Vladimir Putin. View this post on Instagram “Never in my life I would expect that I will have to wear bulletproof vest in #Kyiv. It’s a disaster the way RUSSIA invaded Ukraine…. Bombing cities…killing innocent people. World we must unite to make it stop.. to put putin where he belongs.. PRISON CELLAR,” read Stakhovsky’s Instagram post. The news of Ukrainian athletes joining the armed forces have melted the hearts of millions of people around the world. © Reuters On Sunday, the former tennis star posted a screenshot of WhatsApp messages he received from world number two men’s tennis player Novak Djokovic, who had reached out to him enquiring about his well-being and assuring him that he was open to helping in whatever way possible, whether financially or by any other means. View this post on Instagram “Stako, how are you man? Are you on the field? Thinking of you…hoping all calms down soon. Please let me know what would be the best address to send help, financial help, any other help as well,” read Djokovic’s texts. “Nole thanks a lot, I’m on the ground, Kyiv is pretty silent,” he replied. View this post on Instagram Stakhovsky first moved his family to Hungary to ensure their safety and then came back and joined the armed forces to defend Kyiv. Although he doesn’t have any formal military training, he says he knows how to operate a rifle. It’s been over a week since Russia started bombarding various cities in Ukraine and it has resulted in hundreds of innocent people losing their lives. Kudos to the valour and determination of the Ukrainian people from all walks of life who, instead of fleeing to safety, have taken up arms to protect their motherland. View the full article

After having done ever so well in Bollywood, Alia Bhatt is finally looking to make her mark in Telugu Cinema as well. The 28-year-old actress is in line to be making her Telugu movie debut in SS Rajamouli's RRR. © DVV Entertainments So far, Alia, despite being so young, has already experimented with a lot of films, having done Bollywood films like Highway, Student Of The Year, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Raazi, and so many others. This definitely showcases her exceptional ability to sink any role and do justice to it. Now, while Bollywood obviously would have come naturally to her, considering she's been born in the industry family, Telugu Cinema as it appears, is a completely different ball game altogether. However, it certainly looks like Alia has taken up the challenge, and will be looking to prove herself, even more, when RRR finally comes out. Alia will be seen playing the role of Sita in the movie alongside the star cast of Ajay Devgn, and Telugu stars N. T. Rama Rao Jr., and Ram Charan. © DVV Entertainments Now, shedding some light on the experiences of working on the sets of the film, Alia told Free Press Journal that there would be times she would be with Ram Charan and Jr NTR, and she would be clueless, as the actors would speak in complete Telugu. “Jr NTR and Ram were always talking to each other in Telugu in front of me. I used to look like I was watching a tennis ball here and there waiting for someone to translate it for me,” said Alia. She also opened up on how the pressure of giving her best in the film would make her nervous on the set. “I was very excited, but I was also very nervous. I had by then known a bit of the Telugu language and had very well studied the given part and mugged up my lines sitting every day with my coach. But at the end of the day, I think maybe in English or Hindi but not in Telugu. I was nervous and wanted to portray my character well and give the right pauses,” she said. View this post on Instagram Alia also revealed how working with a director like SS Rajamouli made things easier as he would make her feel comfortable. “Rajamouli sir had done everything for me. He made it so much easier because he is so clear in what he wants with every line, every shot, and every emotion. And then I was just observing. I was just like an audience watching him perform it, and I would try and imitate him. So then, the emotions were excited to get it right. But once it was done, I was quite sad because my experience with sir was over. Hopefully, I will have another one,” said Alia. RRR will release on January 7, 2022.
