  3. Let’s be honest here, Koffee With Karan is a very entertaining show. Watching your favourite celebrities getting grilled by one of Bollywood’s biggest gossipmonger, Karan Johar, is fun. Truth be told, watching the show is a guilty pleasure for a lot of people. © Star World India But what makes the show even more fun to watch are the instances when celebrities push back and savagely troll Karan instead. Whether it was Kangana’s take on nepotism and calling Karan Johar “the flagbearer of nepotism”, or the time when Twinkle Khanna roasted Karan over his writing skills and obsession with Fawad Khan, the show has given us some golden moments. © Star World India However, none of them compares to that epic moment, when one of Karan Johar’s closest friends, Abhishek Bachchan, teamed up with Farah Khan, and decided to give Karan the most epic backhanded comment on the show. © Star World India In one of the segments of the show, Karan Johar was a little too interested in Farah Khan’s conjugal life, and made a few comments on “bad *** life.” Upon being asked a question, Farah just responded, by saying that it is time for everyone to stand up and observe a moment of silence. Now, we know that at times, Karan, thanks to our obsession with a celeb's *** life, behaves just like a nosy neighbour. Naturally, there is no such thing as boundaries in his dictionary. © Star World India So, Karan commented, saying “Why, for your *** life? Is it that bad?” Well, he now must certainly wish that he didn’t. Abhishek Bachchan, being the witty guy that he is, quickly retorted, saying “For yours as well Karan.” Now, that’s one savage burn. Farah then took things up a notch and added the most savage burn of that episode. Addressing Abhishek and the rest of the crew, she threw the ultimate barb, when she said, “For him, we will have to stand for the entire show.” © Star World India Even though there have been a number of instances when his celebrity friends have massively trolled Karan for his rather invasive comments and questions in the show, one has to say that this exchange was epic. 4. Indian music legend Bappi Lahiri passed away on 15th February 2022 after succumbing to a sleep-related breathing disorder. The singer and music composer was a fan favourite due to his contributions to music for the past 50 years and of course, his glam sense of style. Bappi da was more than just any other music icon, he was also admired for his effervescent personality as well as his distinct look. Yes, you know the one we’re talking about. © Instagram/Bappi Lahiri It’s almost impossible to imagine the Jalpaiguri native sans the gold chains that adorned his neck. In a country that prefers to have its singers adopt a simpler demeanour, Bappi Lahiri chose to be extravagant. And his maximalist lifestyle extended to the tunes he created as well, with catchy hooks and heavy synth bass providing the bedrock to some of his biggest hits across the year years. His relevance to global music can never be underestimated. In fact, some of the world’s biggest musicians looked up to Bappi da as a peer beyond any need of recognition, such was his impact worldwide. © Instagram/Bappi Lahiri Musical superstars such as Akon and Lady Gaga were some of the international talents who had worked with and admired Bappi Lahiri’s music. Sri-Lankan rap artist MIA had also sampled ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ for her 2007 album Kala, and the same song had even featured in Adam Sandler’s 2008 cult classic Don't Mess With The Zohan. Needless to say, his impact was felt far and wide. However, one of his biggest fans was none other than the late legendary prince of pop - Michael Jackson. During MJ’s 1996 visit to India, he had a chance encounter with India’s disco-king, where the latter humbly introduced himself as a “music composer”. Recalling the incident on an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, Bappi da had said, “Jab woh Bombay mein aaye the, main ek jagah pe baitha tha. Michael Jackson aaye aur mera yeh gold chain, Ganpati wala, unko bohot nazar aaya. Unhone bola, ‘Oh my God, fantastic! What’s your name?’ Maine kaha Bappi Lahiri (When he came to Mumbai, I was sitting somewhere. He came up to me and noticed my gold chain with a Lord Ganesha pendant. He said, ‘Oh my God, fantastic! What’s your name?’ I introduced myself).” © BCCL He further elaborated on their conversation, “‘You’re a composer?’ I said, ‘Yes, I have done Disco Dancer.’ Jaise hi Disco Dancer bola, woh bole (As soon as I said Disco Dancer, he said), ‘I like your song Jimmy Jimmy’,” he had added. While Bappi da initially had considered parting with the Ganesha chain, however, he decided otherwise as it was his lucky charm. He said, “But then I thought, he has everything, whereas I have only this gold that is lucky for me. There was one more thing — I was born in Kolkata but it is the soil of Maharashtra that gave me its blessing. If I gave Michael the Ganesh, then maybe the blessing would leave me too.” Bappi Lahiri was truly one of a kind, and there won’t ever be another like him. View the full article
  5. Bappi Lahiri, an icon of Indian music passed away on Tuesday night after succumbing to a sleep-related breathing disorder. The veteran composer had a career that spanned a length of 50 years, influencing millions around the world. His contribution to Bollywood’s disco era with the use of heavy synthesis and memorable hooks led to international artists looking to him for inspiration. © Bappi Lahiri Instagram One such artist who may have borrowed a little too much from Bappi da for his comfort is none other than Hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre - who is also the founder of the famous Beats by Dre headphones - who ended up being sued by the Indian music legend for copying his song 'Thoda Resham Lagta Hai' which was later remixed as 'Kaliyon Ka Chaman'. © Dr. Dre ‘Thoda Resham Lagta Hai’ was a song composed by Bappi Lahiri for the 1981 film Jyoti, which ended up fading from relevance for a while before American producer DJ Quik sampled it for the Truth Hurts song ‘Addictive’ in 2002. The lyrics were written by Steve "Static Major" Garrett wrote the song's lyrics, while Dr Dre was the Executive Producer. For Quik it had just been an instrumental track he’d overheard on TV one morning, however, the tune turned out to be 'Thoda Resham Lagta Hai' by Lata Mangeshkar, and their team’s failure to clear the rights to the song ended up making them open to a lawsuit. Sargema had filed a massive $500 million lawsuit against Aftermath and Universal Music Group on September 12, 2002, further requesting the team of ‘Addictive’ to cease all performances and broadcasts of the song. This legal dispute was eventually settled in 2003 after Bappi Lahiri won the lawsuit against hip-hop legend Dr. Dre, and riding the song’s newfound popularity, it was remixed by Indian composer Harry Anand as 'Kaliyon Ka Chaman', with Assamese singer Shaswati Phukan lending her song for the record. Bappi da is survived by his wife Chitrani, daughter Reema, who is also a singer, and son Bappa Lahiri, who has a successful career as a music composer. View the full article

  7. The Indian cricket team couldn't have begun their ICC Champions Trophy any better following a convincing 124-run (D/L) win over arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game. While the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma impressing with the willow, it was the swashbuckling knock of Yuvraj Singh that grabbed the limelight. The Indian southpaw smashed the Pakistani bowlers all around the park during his blistering 32-ball 53. Thank to his artistry with the willow, Yuvi also bagged the Man of the Match award after the one-sided contest. And, if Yuvi's breathtaking knock didn't win out hearts, his decision to dedicate his innings to cancer survivors surely earned him a lot of respect on social media. My innings on #CancerSurvivorDay is dedicated to all the heroes & survivors. Also my thoughts & Prayers to all impacted in #londonattack pic.twitter.com/x9sFn6OMf1 — yuvraj singh (@YUVSTRONG12) June 4, 2017 Clearly, the Indian team is on a high and their activity on social media undoubtedly describes the mood in the camp. Yuvi, too, was in action as he brought back memories of his early days by sharing a photograph on Instagram. In what looks like a pre-selfie era image, Yuvraj can be seen in the company of a younger Ashish Nehra alongside another youngster. Serious throwback ! Mr nehra that is my jacket? love the hairdo," Yuvraj captioned the picture, which has already got a lot of response from his fans. While the fans couldn't stop commenting on Nehra's hairdo, the identity of the third individual in the photograph continues to remain a mystery. © Twitter Yuvraj and Nehra have been teammates for a long time now, having played for India at U-19 level, for North Zone in domestic cricket and also in the senior team. The duo also shares the same dressing room for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
