  1. Labelled as one of the most unpredictable sides in the tournament, West Indies looked at their menacing best during a seven-wicket triumph over Pakistan in their ICC World Cup opener. The Windies pace attack turned out to be the nemesis for the Pakistani batsmen who were hurried on by the pace and bounce of the opposition bowlers. Amongst the multiple pace options in their armoury, Sheldon Cottrell is arguably the one that stands out. The left-arm seamer can not only generate serious pace, but his searing bouncers and control on length make him more lethal. But, Cottrell isn't just famous for his bowling capabilities, in fact, if anyone has seen this man bowl, they'd have found his unique and animated wicket celebration just too hard to go unnoticed. The Windies speedster's short march and a salute to the pavilion is a mark of respect and tribute to the Jamaican Armed Forces, where he was earlier employed as a soldier. “It's a military-style salute. I'm a soldier by profession. Me saluting is just to show my respect to the Jamaica Defence Force,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC earlier this year. 2. Rajkumar Gupta has a rather unique way of projecting real stories on the big screen. This time, he chose to dig out the arrest of India's Osama Bin Laden, Yasin Bhatkal or as he is called in the movie, Yusuf. Despite its flaws, 'India's Most Wanted' does make it a point to keep you hooked and engaged in how a small group of officers from the Intelligence Bureau, carried out India's most covert mission. In bits and pieces, Rajkumar Gupta has given us crucial information about the serial blasts that ripped across the country over these years and the mastermind behind it all. © Fox Star Studios The movie has shunned the entire idea of how one thinks an IB officer should be. Instead of going all guns ablaze with James Bond-esque fight scenes and lines dripping with vengeance, 'India's Most Wanted' has completely normalized the scenario, giving it a very raw and realistic aesthetic and you have five very normal-looking people who have normal lives, taking up the almost impossible mission of finding Yusuf. Let me tell you the movie is most definitely worth the watch, despite falling short in a few areas. The first half sets the base for the plot to develop and can get a little dragged-out at some points. But it's the second half of the movie that is more interesting as we get to see the real meat of the story. Of course, the movie could have been better, considering Rajkumar Gupta was the captain of the ship. But, let's take a moment to applaud the director's attempt at something different. Arjun Kapoor has also tried something that's way too different from his regular roles and has surely tried to break out of his shell. He has a certain calmness in his attitude as the man leading the manhunt for the wanted terrorist, but at times, you feel he is a little disinterested and some scenes have come out in a very linear way. If you are wondering the supporting cast has nothing to add to, then you are probably wrong. They have done a brilliant job. The script has been written in such a way that every character has its own space and is justified. Arjun's character Prabhat has got the perfect shield from the supporting cast. The entire mission is carried out in Nepal and somewhere, the movie also goes into details about the relationship between India and the neighbouring nation. Cinematography is one of the major highlights of the movie, as it has beautifully captured the scenic beauty of Nepal. I feel that Sudev Nair, who played the role of India's Most Wanted, Yusuf, could have been a bit more believable. The introduction set for him is pretty strong in the movie, but when you see him at the end, you feel as if all efforts have gone down the drain, as he isn't that convincing as India's Osama. Obviously, I won't give away the climax but I feel that somewhere there the storyline took a fall and failed in packing the perfect punch. Arjun has delivered a very different sort of character, but in the climax, I feel he failed a bit in coming through. Dialogues in the movie follow a pattern. Sometimes, you would feel they are on point and give you goosebumps and sometimes, they seem rather off the mark. But, the idea is not to show jingoism on the screen. Despite all its shortcomings, the movie still managed to instil faith and hope in our Nation and its forces, who may not always get the credit for serving the country. In conclusion, the movie is worth the watch and is a fitting tribute to India's unsung heroes.
  3. Over the years, the world of cricket has witnessed numerous stars who've managed to capture the imagination of fans and etch their respective names in the history books, owing to their success on the field. But, no one comes close to the stature or popularity of great Sachin Tendulkar. His perfect balance and precision in stroke-making didn't just help the 'Master Blaster' to terrorise the opposition bowlers, but also allowed him to be looked upon as a case study for budding talents across the globe. But, his greatness wasn't derived from his exploits on the field alone. The right-hander's batting genius was backed by a calm and composed demeanour, both on and off the field, which is why he continues to be an adept role model, almost six years after his retirement. Here's wishing the Master Blaster a very happy birthday ðð° On this special day, we take a look at his iconic ODI double ton against South Africa ðð Watch it here ð¹ð¹https://t.co/Ca2j3GWhEW #Legend #HappyBirthdaySachin pic.twitter.com/9YBfJlyGYR — BCCI (@BCCI) April 24, 2019 So, on 24th April, when Tendulkar turned 46, there was no surprise to see cricket fans and pundits across the globe pouring in heartfelt wishes for arguably the biggest cricket icon the game as ever known. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wished Tendulkar with a throwback video of his iconic ODI double ton against South Africa, the International Cricket Council (ICC), too, had something special up their sleeve. The international governing body used the pictures which were earlier shared by Shaw who is often labelled as the next Tendulkar. On the other hand, Indian cricket stars also wished the batting great with touching messages on the social media. 4. On February 14, when most people were celebrating the day of love i.e. Valentine's Day with their respective partners, some families were weeping and mourning the death of their loved ones, who were in the Central Reserve Police Force. The nation has not forgotten their death and never will, and in order to salute their courage and bravery our Bollywood actors recently took out time to pay tribute to the martyrs. AP In memory of the bravehearts, actors Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor recently paid a soulful tribute, called 'Tu Desh Mera'. The official Twitter account of CRPF posted their BTS pictures on social media and thanked them for their tribute. CRPF wrote, "Commendable work has been done by @SrBachchan, @aamir_khan and #RanbirKapoor for the tribute song #TuDeshMera dedicated to the Martyrs of Pulwama. We would like to thank you all for showing your support towards the Martyrs." Post that, things have worsened between India and Pakistan with reports of attacks coming almost every other day.
  5. Shahid Kapoor is back on the circuit with his next adventure 'Kabir Singh' which is a remake of the original Telugu hit 'Arjun Reddy'. The movie is helmed by ace director Sandeep Vanga who is also the man behind the original movie. The movie follows the story of a man who chooses the path of self-destruction after the woman he loves marries another man. © T Series In the teaser, you get to see a glimpse of Shahid from his performances in 'Kaminey' and 'Udta Punjab'. Clearly, there's no second guessing Shahid's capacity to take on the role of an intense, powerful, young, disturbed and an angry man. This time, once again, he doesn't disappoint us at all. In fact, the one-minute teaser makes us believe that the movie will be a super hit. Kiara Advani plays his love interest and the movie will hit the theatres in June this year. Can't wait for the full trailer now.
  6. If your team had to make 54 runs off 18 balls to win the game, you'd probably be thinking about your plans for the next match, having already taken this one to be a lost cause. Alternatively, you'd be a lot more confident about trying to chase such an outrageous goal if your team was Kolkata Knight Riders and you have the Jamaican beast, Andre Russell on the crease. On Friday, in what can be considered to be Royal Challengers Bangalore's best game of the season so far, skipper Virat Kohli played an impressive 84-run innings while off-form batsman, AB de Villiers seemed to have found his mojo back as well. Firing on all cylinders in the first half of the game, Kohli and de Villiers helped RCB establish a more-than-great score of 205 in just 20 overs. Things were finally looking good for the men in red and gold as they were looking forward to celebrating their first win of the Indian Premier League 2019 after losing four straight matches and sitting rock bottom on the points table. All they had to do was hold Dinesh Karthik's KKR below 205 under 20 overs and victory would have been theirs. But, as they say, “if it's too good to be true, then it probably is.” After successfully dismissing great batsmen like Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana, the only person standing between RCB and the win was Russell. Taking not too long to settle in, the Windies allrounder literally smashed the ball in all directions. Hitting seven maximums and one four, Russell was able to score 48 runs in just 13 deliveries which not only made him the man of the match but also led him to score the required 54 in just 13 balls instead of 18. As gratitude for his otherworldly performance, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who also happens to be the co-owner of the franchise, shared this image on Twitter: Well played boys @KKRiders @lynny50 @NitishRana_27 @robbieuthappa . Each one in the team did so well but you all will agree all words of praise r worth less than this picture... pic.twitter.com/bak2zQ9NqD — Shah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) April 5, 2019 “Well played boys @KKRiders @lynny50 @NitishRana_27 @robbieuthappa . This photoshopped image obviously comes from the movie 'Baahubali' in which Amarendra Baahubali shows superhuman strength to overcome his obstacles. As befitting as the comparison is, it led to some brilliant reactions by the KKR fans on Twitter: AndreBali ðpic.twitter.com/N2G2eoKQF2 — ââ The Club SRK ââ (@TheClubSRK) April 5, 2019 @KKRiders @Russell12A 2nd innings of #RCBvKKR pic.twitter.com/tMaTFQLCbfð¥ð¥ð¥ #KKRHaiTaiyaar — Tá´á´Êá´á´á´ ♠á´°áµáµ (@iamSrkfanking) April 5, 2019 Fantastic play @KKRiders ðð» Jai Maahishmathi. 8. The biggest festival of India aka the IPL 2019 starts today, with two of the strongest teams playing against each other - Chennai Super Kings (RCB) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Honestly, there couldn't have been a better way to kick-start the 12th season of the Indian Premier League, than pitting Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni against each other. The ground at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium is gearing up to witness an epic match, as every cricket fan is now sitting in front of their TV waiting with bated breath for the clock to strike 8 PM, and people are gearing up to fill the stadium with chants of 'Chickoo' and 'Mahi'. Twitter However, one of the most attractive events of IPL i.e. the glittering opening ceremony will not be happening this year. In the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, where the nation lost more than 40 CRPF bravehearts, the BCCI has decided to pay them a tribute. There won't be an opening ceremony this time, instead, a military band will perform at the stadium ahead of the first T20 match. In fact, the money budgeted for the ceremony will go to the families of the martyrs. Twitter According to the Indian Express, an official close to BCCI said "It's about a 15 to 20-minute show which will happen. The band will perform just before the felicitation happens. The toss is being advanced by 10 mins." The official further added, "the game will begin at 8 pm and toss will be at 7:30. From 7:20 to 7:30 the Madras Regiment band will perform for the audience." Twitter Reportedly, the Madras Regiment Band based out of Chennai will be performing at the stadium before the felicitation programme for the Indian Armed Forces. The BCCI will also contribute Rs. 20 crore for the welfare of the Armed Forces. The captains of the 8 IPL teams have, in fact, pre-recorded a video message for the performance.
  9. This article is in memory of Late Major Dhruv Yadav and every father who has lost his brave son to Mother India. © Namrata Yadav In the dark recesses of the night, I look at my son who wriggles in his sleep - partially hungry, partially in discomfort as he has started teething and wonder what it is like to lose a child. I knew the pain of having lost someone but the pain of losing a child is perhaps unimaginable. It is nature's way and God's plan to take away people to make space for a new life on earth; a loss of life only makes way for new life and that is the absolute cycle of life. But knowing that and acknowledging God's plan I still wonder how you say goodbye to your own child. I look at my son only to realize, my precious gain could be someone's devastating loss. Thus, in a way, as life continues, I often wonder of nature's harshness and kindness in the same stroke. Loss can never be compared, but I have often wondered does the honourable death of a young soldier make the pain any less for a uniformed father, after all, wasn't it nature's plan for a son to immerse the ashes of his father and not the other way round? Does watching his body wrapped in the tricolour, while listening to a thousand boots march to show respect to this brave son of India, make the pain any less for an absolutely heartbroken mother? © Reuters Is the sound of the bugles intended to be the last lullaby this brave son hears, as his parents lay him to rest? Amid all this pride and honour that this brave son of India bestows on his parents, there is immense pain. I once saw an old soldier march behind the casket of his young brave son of India and as he lit his pyre - bugles were sounded, a gun salute given to this fallen comrade, the father transformed into a true soldier and saluted his young soldier goodbye. At that moment, it was not a father saying goodbye to his son, it was the soldier within the father saying goodbye to a young fallen comrade, who happened to be his blood. In death and loss, he was no longer his, he was yet again his country's first – the loss compounded once again. This memory was only to be etched deeper within me, when a few days later on this very father's birthday, he immersed his son's ashes on the banks of the river Ganga. In that final goodbye, before Ma Ganga took this young boy away on his final journey having defied the circle of life as nature intended, the flowers among his ashes touched his father's feet as if to take his blessings one last time, draw strength from his father as he took those very last steps and made his final journey into the afterlife. At that moment, I saw what nature intended - a relationship in its purest form of a 'father and son'. I sit at the edge of my son's cot looking at him, imagining the joy I may feel when he takes his first steps, only to think of this father who helped his son take his last... Author Bio: Namrata Yadav graduated with a joint Masters degree in Law and Anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, UK and currently works as a freelance consultant in New Delhi. She is the sister of Late Major Dhruv Yadav's who was killed in the line of duty in September 2015.

  11. Marvel fans are still mourning the loss of the legend that is Stan Lee and he obviously needed an amazing farewell from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they managed to pull that off with 'Captain Marvel'. It's the first MCU movie to release after Stan's passing, so obviously, a fitting tribute was in order. Warning, slight spoiler ahead. Remember the Marvel logo intro from every movie? With all the superheroes from the MCU? Well, a lot of people were expecting to see Captain Marvel herself join that but Marvel had something far more special planned. It was a Stan Lee tribute, and a beautiful one at that. The intro had already made people emotional and then made them sit at the edge of their seats waiting for one of the last Stan Lee cameos ever. People on Twitter shared their reaction to that Stan Lee tribute and how everyone in the theatres started applauding almost everywhere. They did a quick tribute to Stan Lee at the beginning of #CaptainMarvel & everyone clapped. It was beautiful. — ð ð¤ ð ð ð (@Tanya_HanaKim) March 8, 2019 Yes, it is. #CaptainMarvel has an awesome Stan Lee tribute, had the theater cheering from the very start. 12. Russo Brothers are super sadistic and we always knew that. We all watched 'Infinity War' and sure, that nearly killed most of us, but they're still continuing to mess with all the Marvel fans. I mean, their Twitter display picture is still this - © Twitter Now that 'Avengers: Endgame' is inching closer and closer, looks like their trolling is also getting more frequent. We all know that Captain America's potential death in the movie is a dark cloud that has been looming over us for a long, long time and even Chris Evans is not helping us feel better. Chris Evans already shared his emotional message with everyone the day he wrapped up the shooting of 'Endgame', basically telling everyone he's done playing the role forever. Now, the Russo Brothers are sharing an emotional tribute video for the beloved Captain America which was made by a fan. 13. Losing a loved one is the most painful thing I can think of, and unfortunately, all of us have to go through it at some point in our lives. But, no one can understand the extremities of that loss like the people who work in the Defence, and their families do. Yesterday, the last rites of Squadron leader Siddharth Vashisht, who died in a Mi-17 chopper crash in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district, were performed with full military honours in Chandigarh. His family, including his wife Squadron Leader Aarti Singh and other fellow officers, were present to bid farewell and mourn the loss. His wife stood in full uniform as his father lit the funeral pyre. The Air Force personnel present gave a gun salute in the presence of officials from the IAF, the civil administration and all the people who turned up to pay their last respects. People couldn't help but salute Squadron Leader Aarti Singh's bravery at this difficult time while mourning for him. Her head was held high, as she clutched the tricolour to her chest, and the internet hailed her stoic spirit. 14. One year ago today, the nation mourned and woke up to the tragic news that Bollywood's legend and one of the most beautiful women this world had seen, Sridevi, left us after her untimely demise. Her family, friends and fans are still numb and find it hard to believe that the veteran actress left the world too soon, leaving behind a legacy and a million memories for her loved ones. 15. The brave men, who guard our country, lose sleep so that we can sleep in peace and also sacrifice their lives for the love of the nation, deserve more than just our respect. No amount of love or words that one pours to thank our soldiers can suffice the work they do for this country. However, it's not just them who make this sacrifice. One cannot even imagine the strength their family members show in enduring the risk of sending their bravehearts to the border. It is not easy being a wife of an army officer but it is an honour for sure and Gauri Mahadik is one such hero who is proving to the world that she is a woman of steel. She is the wife of Major Prasad Mahadik, who was martyred in 2017 at the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. While life definitely must have stopped for a while for this brave woman, it definitely didn't deter her from facing it with all the strength she had. Gauri is now all set to join the army herself as a tribute to her brave husband. Gauri will be inducted as a lieutenant in the army once she completes her training in Chennai. Gauri cleared the service selection board (SSB) exams and qualified for the rank by actually topping the exam with great score. Talking about some kind of serendipity and a beautiful twist of destiny, Gauri was allotted the same chest number (28) which was also allotted to her husband when he was undergoing his training. She is a qualified lawyer who quit her job to pursue this dream in memory of her husband. It is stories like these which fill your heart with strength and courage and make you believe that every storm is followed by a rainbow.
  16. Ranveer Singh's 'Gully Boy' has turned everyone into a rapper, a skill people didn't know they had until they saw the movie. 17. The Pulwama terror attack has shaken the entire nation but the ones most affected by the consequences are the ones who lost their loved ones in the attack. From mind-boggling fan theories to crazy fans going out of their way to prove their loyalty, 'Games of Thrones' can boast of it all. © HBO However, much like it is the case with most fandoms, GOT fans have also proven their allegiance to the show time and again. So HBO recently released its own 'Fan Anthem' #ForTheThrone on GOT's official YouTube channel, ahead of the premiere of the last season in April. The video is a visual montage of tributes GOT fans paid to show, and the best part is that it includes the musical tribute of a 18-year-old Kashmiri boy. Sufiyan Malik from Srinagar in Kashmir can be seen in the video, playing the traditional Rabab, which has been taken from his Game of Thrones tribute video called 'The Cure'. As if the haunting and soulful musical tribute itself was not enough, the video play out is absolutely stunning with its picturisation, and choice of location. 23. It's Bollywood's OG superhero, Krrish aka Hrithik Roshan's birthday today. Although age is just a number for this Greek god, who was ranked as the world's most handsome actor last year, he turned 45 today. © Instagram From his ex-wife and BFF Suzanne Khan to Sonali Bendre, Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi, celebrities have flooded social media with birthday posts. 24. Back in November, when the selectors announced the Indian squad for the T20I series against West Indies and Australia, the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni had left many fans and former cricketers bemused. But, amid all hue and cry, the former Indian captain clarified that he had excluded himself from the two series in order to allow young Rishabh Pant some much-needed gametime. Dhoni further backed the youngster and called him his potential successor behind the stumps. And, if anyone witnessed Pant's exploits in the recently-concluded 1st Test between India and Australia, they'd agree that the Delhi cricketer didn't disappoint. The scores of 25 & 28 (across the two innings) might not do justice to the left-hander, but, given the ever-changing match situations at the Adelaide Oval, Pant's knocks surely helped India's cause. He might not have scored a fifty or a hundred, but his biggest contribution in India's 31-run triumph, as predicted by Dhoni, came from behind the stumps. © BCCL Repaying the faith of Dhoni and the selectors, Pant made everyone proud by equalling the world record of most catches taken by a wicket-keeper in a single Test match. The Delhi cricketer took 11 catches against Australia in Adelaide and matched the heroics of Jack Russell and AB de Villiers - both of whom were earlier standing tall with the unique feat. The 21-year-old caught six batsmen - Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Travis Head, Tim Paine, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood - in the first innings and then took five more catches in the second. Pant equalled the world record for most catches in a single Test in the 101th over when Mohammed Shami got Starc to edge one through to the Indian wicket-keeper. For someone who considers Dhoni as his role model, Pant, then, came up with a brilliant tribute to the Jharkhand cricketer. "He's (Dhoni) the hero of the country. I've learnt a lot from him as a person and as a cricketer as well. Whenever he's around, I feel more confident as a person. If I've got any problems I can share it with him and get a solution right away," Pant told cricket.com.au. © AP "As a wicket-keeper and a player (he's taught me) to be patient in pressure situations like this (in Adelaide). You have to keep calm and keep composed and try to give 100 per cent," he added. Talking about equalling the world record, Pant said: "I never thought of the record but it's good to take some catches and put it inside my kitty. It's good to have milestones, but I'm not thinking about that too much".
