  1. The best time of the year has finally dawned upon us. The festive fervour is floating all around and it's officially the time for friends and families to plan those much-awaited weekend getaways! While planning a vacation, the best way to unwind is to visit a luxurious location with the perfect mix of culture and soul. The one city that is the epitome of all three things is Jaipur. The 'pink city' is the ideal destination where old-school-charm and modern novelties meet. For most of us who have already been to the city, our experiences have been limited to royal landmarks like the Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort. However, there's a lot more that the city of maharaja has to offer! Here's how you can turn your little getaway to Jaipur into a perfect vacation filled with luxury and culture- 1. Fly Above The City: What better way to experience the city than flying above it and enjoying some splendid views of the city. Take in Rajasthan from a unique point of view, flying over the glimmering pink city of Jaipur on a hot air balloon ride. It's an exhilarating way to experience India and get a different perspective of the country. There are two flights each day; one in the morning, one in the afternoon. So buckle up for this manificent luxury. 2. Elephants For the Win: If you want to side-step routine touristy activities and try something unique, this point is for you! Anchored by the conviction that an Elephant Sanctuary provides a critical foundation for breaking the cycle of elephant tourism in Jaipur, Elefantastic works for domesticated elephants of Jaipur with low-income, marginalised caretaker families to run a sanctuary, to provide welfare services and to raise awareness for Asian elephants. 3. A Palace In The Middle Of It All: With its unique setting in the middle of a lake and the attractive backdrop of the temple-dotted Aravalli hills, Jal Mahal is the perfect spot to sit with your loved one and watch a beautiful sunset. As you look across to the palace from the water's edge on your boat ride, try to count the number of stories. There are five in total, but during monsoon season, it often looks like the palace has only a single story, as the lower four levels are submerged beneath the water's surface. 4. The Perfect Mix Of Luxury And Culture: Nestled amidst the majestic Aravalli hills, with 245 rooms and suites elegantly appointed. Fairmont Jaipur is an ode to the pink city. With its awe-inspiring architecture and decor, inspired by the Mughal dynasty and Royal Rajput's of yore it reflects a perfect blend of traditional Rajasthani décor and modern amenities. The hotel takes each guest on an opulent journey through large verdant gardens, elegant lobby and beautifully designed rooms. It is a perfect location to spend a day at the luxury spa or have the royal wedding of your dream. It offers a scenic luxury getaway for the discerning traveller. Book your rooms here. 5. Relish Local Cuisine In Luxury: When in Jaipur, one can't miss out on authentic Rajasthani cuisine. We are talking about laal mass, atta raab, nalli nihari, and well, the options are endless. The authentic flavours of Rajasthan come to life at a restaurant called Zarin. This quaint and classy eatery at Fairmont Jaipur is the perfect blend of luxury and culture. With experienced chefs, local flavours and Insta-worthy interiors, Zarin should be on every tourists list! In addition to these 5 pink city must-dos, there's lots more that Jaipur offers. All that's left is for you to pack your bags and let the adventure begin!
  2. Payal Singhal is a name that needs no introduction. At least not anymore. She is one of the finest fashion designers in South Asia, who has carved a niche for herself in the world of contemporary Indian Wear. Payal, who was once known for her bridal wear, has now forayed into menswear with her first ever clothing line, PS Men. The collection is a versatile mix of sherwani, bandi sets and silk kurta in her signature prints and colours, rendered with minimal embellishments. And to complement the clothing selection, there are men's accessories like ties, pocket squares and safas. MensXP interacted with Payal Singhal on her collection and how it is changing the current scenario of Indian menswear. 1) Three words you'd use to describe your latest menswear line. Contemporary Indian, Quirky and Playful. © Payal Singhal 2) You use history and culture as your starting points while creating a new collection. What is your favourite historical era in terms of menswear, and why? My favourite era is the Mughal era for menswear because I love the rich textiles, elaborate silhouettes and accessories spotted in menswear during that era. © Payal Singhal 3) Do you think traditional Indian menswear is evolving? If yes, in what way? Yes, Indian menswear has evolved over the years. Men are now more experimental and willing to try new things. They are understanding fashion and spending more time and money on shopping even for themselves. There are several trends like prints, accessories and matching outfits with the brides that can be spotted. 4) One celebrity who can teach everyone else a lesson or two on how to pull off the Indian aesthetic elegantly, when it comes to menswear. I think Ranveer Singh pulls off any look under the sun but especially Indian wear. He is the epitome of an Indian metrosexual man who expresses himself through fashion. © Payal Singhal 5) What are your thoughts on Indian-Western fusion in terms of menswear? Indian fusion works great for menswear as it goes easily from day to night or from an Indian occasion to western wear. You can also dress up or down the look. © Payal Singhal 6) One thing men should never do while dressing up in traditional Indian wear. Wear shoes that don't work with the outfit or wear Indian kurtas with pants and chinos. 7) One menswear trend you just don't understand or agree with. I personally don't love the draped kurta look for men. I feel very few men can carry it off without looking ridiculous. © Payal Singhal 8) One traditional Indian menswear item you believe every Indian man should have in his wardrobe, and why. A classic Bandhgala – it's classic, contemporary as well as traditional. © Payal Singhal 9) Opulence and grandeur make up the essence of the Indian aesthetic, but how much is too much? I think keeping the overall aesthetic is very important and editing the look also. So don't overdo any look if you are wearing a heavily embroidered sherwani, keep the accessories simpler or if you are wearing a simple kurta pyjama, you can dress it up with an embroidered broach. On that note, all we can say is that her collection is exactly what you need to wear at your friend's wedding. You can thank us later!
  3. The trailer of 'Kabir Singh' dropped yesterday and let's just say Shahid Kapoor has us shook. One look at the 2 minutes 45 seconds video and you know that people will remember this movie for multiple reasons, and not just for being a remake of 'Arjun Reddy'. © T-Series When most people were busy comparing it to the superhit Telugu movie 'Arjun Reddy' starring Vijay Deverakonda, some people on the internet were busy dissecting the trailer and churning out funny memes out of it. © T-Series In fact, the desi engineers seemed to have struck a chord with some of the dialogues and scenes from the trailer, and these memes are too damn relatable. 4. Amazon has now made a device that lets you use any speaker and add Alexa services without compromising on your setup. Instead of using Amazon's own speaker, you can now add Alexa to any speaker that you use in your home. This can be a home theatre, a bookshelf speaker setup or in my case Sonos. © Amazon Amazon's new Echo Link Amp basically replaces the need of an amplifier or a receiver that is basically used to power speakers. Amazon Link and Link Amp are the perfect devices if you want to convert your home system smart. Having said that, neither of the two comes with in-built microphones which are essential for a standalone smart speaker. You will need to use an existing Amazon Echo device or the Alexa application on your smartphone in order to take advantage of these devices. © Amazon What's cool is that you can use an Echo dot and power a set of speakers with Amazon's new offering. I hooked up my Sonos Play 5 to test the Echo Link Amp and it was fairly easy to set up. However, the Amazon Link and Link Amp require a physical internet connection via an ethernet cable. It would have been awesome if it had some sort of wireless support but for now you will need to have your router nearby in order for the Link and Link amp to work. Performance In order to test the two devices, the best testing ground is at a house party. I hosted one a few days ago for my birthday and used the two devices to see how it fared in the real world. I connected the devices with my Sonos setup and an Echo dot to see if there was any noticeable difference in sound quality. © Amazon While using the Echo Link and Link amp, it was easy to switch audio sources with a simple press of a button. We played typical house party music i.e. some Hip-Hop, chill out and electronica. To be honest, there wasn't any noticeable difference between the Echo Link and the Echo Link amp even though the larger brother is supposed to be more powerful. We connected the speakers directly into the amp and the sound quality remained the same. The highs were the same as it would be without the amp variant and the story remained the same for the lows and mids. The main difference between the Echo Link and Link Amp is quite obvious, the larger brother has an in-built amp while the smaller Echo Link needs to be connected to an external amplifier. The Echo Link is probably my preferable choice simply because it is easy to set up with any speaker you own and is small enough to be discrete. Overall, it improves the audio quality of generic speakers. © Amazon The Echo Link Amp, on the other hand, does the job but we found it a bit disappointing simply because it did not affect the sound quality much. Even though it has an in-built amp, the output remained the same with no major noticeable improvements. The cool thing is that you can use the Echo Link amp for various purposes thanks to the available connections at the back. There's a dedicated connection for a sub-woofer or you can always use a generic aux connection to relay sound. If you want a more reliable and warm sound, you can hook up bookshelf speakers with an RCA wire. You can add additional speakers to the amp as you would on a home theatre with pan control. You even have the option to hook up the Echo link amp with an optical cable, a feature that many devices seem to ignore these days. Overall, the Echo Link amp is quite versatile even though you will get the same audio output as your speakers without an amp connection. The Final Say The Echo Link and Echo Link Amp are probably meant for audiophiles who want the added benefit of Alexa. It's an easy way to add core Alexa functionalities to any speaker without compromising your existing setup. Though both products don't offer much difference in sound quality when hooked up, it still is a great way to incorporate smart features. Alexa as a platform can be used for various purposes and it's great to see Amazon marry the two technologies together. The Echo Link retails in India for Rs Rs. 19,999 while the Echo Link Amp retails in India for Rs 29,999.
  5. Whether you're watching 'Game Of Thrones', 'Avengers: Endgame' or working on any important presentation, leave everything aside for a moment and focus on today's hot topic - Met Gala 2019. View this post on Instagram Met 2019 A post shared by Priyanka Chopra Jonas (@priyankachopra) on May 6, 2019 at 8:59pm PDT The 2019 "Foreigners Ka Fancy Dress Competition" aka Met Gala just took place at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year's theme was 'Camp: Notes on Fashion'. While everyone tried to look their best at the event, the moment Priyanka Chopra Jonas walked the red carpet, no one else mattered anymore. Priyanka wore a Dior gown. View this post on Instagram Met 2019 A post shared by Priyanka Chopra Jonas (@priyankachopra) on May 6, 2019 at 8:54pm PDT Priyanka, who is attenting the Met Gala for the third time, came with Nick 'Jiju' Jonas. Given the kind of looks that Priyanka and everyone else have been serving since the past few years, one thing is confirmed - Met Gala is basically an opportunity for every troll out there to showcase their talent by churning out hilarious memes. This year, too, Priyanka did not disappoint desi Twitter. © Reuters While it took Priyanka hours to get that perfectly outrageous look in place, it took people on Twitter only seconds to turn her Met Gala look into a meme. From comparing Priyanka to The Mad Hatter from 'Alice In Wonderland' to comparing Nick to Littlefinger from 'Game Of Thrones'; people had all sorts of jokes to crack on this power-couple. 6. Start reading this article only and only if you have watched 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Episode 4, for there are major spoilers ahead. Now, with that out of the way, let's get to the point. Episode 4 was all about the build-up to the final war against Cersei Lannister, and it ended on a note that left the audience hanging and hungry for answers, not to mention distressed. Daenerys Targaryen lost another dragon, but that perhaps is not the death that will haunt everyone. We lost Missandei of Naath, Dany's advisor, best friend, and confidante that she trusted more than anyone else. She was undoubtedly one of the most liked characters in the show, who was intelligent as well as loyal beyond measure to her queen. Just as her love story with Grey Worm started blooming, she met with a gruesome death. © Hotstar One question that everyone is asking, however, is what her final words meant. Cersei asked her to say her last words before ordering The Mountain to execute her, and Missandei uttered a single word, one all too familiar to us: 'Dracarys'. As we geared up for Drogon to rise up behind Cersei and rain fire from the sky in a possibly badass twist like Arya's attack on the Night King from the previous episode, we were disappointed because nothing happened, and The Mountain sliced off her head leading to a miserable, anti-climactic end to the episode. © Hotstar We, however, think that her uttering that word can have far-reaching implications, that are enough to turn around the fate of the Seven Kingdoms. The word 'Dracarys' means 'Dragonfire', and it also is the same word Daenerys utters every time she wants her dragons to attack with fire. Before we get into how and why it will possibly change everything for Westeros, let us revisit a scene from season 3 episode 4, where Daenerys frees the slaves in Astapor, and kills the master. Missandei was the translator, and that was the first time she saw the rage in Daenerys - something so ruthless and destructive, that even the most formidable leaders sometimes lack. She wanted to remind her of her own power at a time during which she was at her most vulnerable, having lost two of her dragons, the entire Dothraki army, as well as Ser Jorah Mormont. © Hotstar She knew that Daenerys has it in her to burn everything down to the ground and raze anything that comes in her way, and that is what she keyed in, as a final goodbye to the realm. She could have said goodbye to Grey Worm, the love of her life, but instead, she chose to give one final piece of advice to her queen and her best friend, which is to burn everything. © Hotstar She wanted Daenerys to get rid of all the diplomacy and all the hesitation that prevents her from raining fire down on King's Landing, and she made sure that now the barrier is broken. Daenerys, as well as Grey Worm, will now spiral down a path of vengeance, and that might just lead to Daenerys ignoring all the advice from Tyrion and Varys and she will perhaps turn into something everyone always warned her against transforming into - a mad queen. She is now anyway susceptible to her rage, something that runs in her family and ended up consuming her father Aerys II Targaryen, famously known as 'The Mad King', who had shouted "burn them all!" during his final moments. © Hotstar Missandei, by uttering 'Dracarys' just before her death, essentially told Daenerys to ignore everything else and burn Cersei down to the ground, just like she obtained all her major wins along with the Dothraki and her dragons by her side. It was a reminder, as well as a solid piece of advice.
  7. A trailer comes out, becomes a meme - everyone knows the drill. It's obviously expected when the movie has Salman Khan in the lead. People love to troll him and his movies and most of the time he makes it a little too easy. Remember 'Race 3'? But, this time when the trailer for 'Bharat' dropped, it wasn't Salman Khan that was the star of the memes, but Katrina Kaif who got that honour. She basically said only one dialogue in the entire trailer but one was more than enough. Katrina saying “Itna bhaari gyaan dene ki zarurat nahi hai” was honestly just waiting to be turned into a meme. Who knows if it was in the trailer just to get even more free publicity online? If that's the case, they've succeeded. 8. Music is one of the greatest markers of any civilisation. It grows, changes and evolves into something entirely different at the turn of every decade that comes to a close. Every new beginning welcomes new changes to the realm of music and the end result leaves a lasting impression on our minds. Yet, even with the constant evolution that music undergoes from time to time, certain compositions simply strike a chord and stick with us. Why? Maybe because the beats were catchy, or the film was one of your favourites from that year, or simply because the music got under your skin for no particular reason. But what we can't deny is the fact that even after so many years since the first time we heard those songs, we love them just as much even after a gap of 10 long years. We list down 10 such uber popular Bollywood songs from 2009 that were crazy hits and will soon be completing 10 years. So get ready to feel really old and find some of your favourite tracks on this list here, because frankly, we didn't see this coming. 1. Emotional Attyachaar (Dev.D) The absolute upheaval that this composition caused to the music charts in 2009 doesn't need much recollection. Emotional Attyachaar from 'Dev.D' came handy during so many situations besides a heartbreak, it quickly became a classic. 2. Dhan Te Nan (Kaminey) One of Vishal Bharadwaj's best compositions, this was from Shahid Kapoor starrer 'Kaminey' was played at every house party and discotheque with equal enthusiasm. Edgy and entertaining, with high-rolling beats this one kept everyone pumped. 3. Tera Hone Laga Hoon (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani) This song from 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif sort of became the romance anthem of the year. Well, what can we say, guys took to it pretty quickly. 4. Iktara (Wake Up Sid) This one was a popular choice not only then, but even to this day, as we can find this song in a lot of people's playlist. And when we say a lot, we mean it. This soulful song not only fetched the singer the best playback singer award but also became a major hit. 5. Chiggy Wiggy (Blue) Even though 'Blue' tanked at the box office big time, this song was a major crowd-puller in 2009 because it saw Australian-British pop star, Kylie Minogue's first ever Bollywood collaboration. Apart from the song and music, those moves Kylie pulled off with Akshay Kumar were too good! 6. All Izz Well (3 Idiots) This one doesn't need any introduction for obvious reasons. This became a raging anthem with the younger lot of the time, and still continues to be a very popular number even after 10 years since it first came out. 7. Genda Phool (Delhi-6) Ask your mother and you will know exactly how much every mother and aunt in the country came to love this song, and relate to some or the other part of it. Regardless, there is no denying this was a popular number in 2009. 8. Paisa Paisa (De Dana Dan) The lyrics of this one, as well as Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif grooving to this song, got to the guys. If you haven't heard this one, you better. Then you will know exactly why. 9. Hai Junoon (New York) This one was meant for the squad and everybody appreciated it. People instantly connected to it because it reminded them of their friends and that is always a winner! 10. Twist (Love Aaj Kal) If you didn't dance to this one at least at five different parties, then did you even have any fun in 2009? This one took all the parties and dance sessions by storm!
  9. While there are certainly plenty of 'rich people' who choose to spend money on expensive houses, sports cars, and luxury hotels, there are plenty of millionaires who choose not to spend all their money frivolously on eye-candy items. They have other plans like recreating a battle royale game in real life. That's right, an unnamed millionaire with deep pockets is planning to set up a real-life 100-person PUBG battle royale event on a private island. Ya right, talk about PUBG addiction. © YouTube According to an advertisement on HushHush, a luxury product marketplace dubbed the 'Amazon for millionaires', an anonymous rich guy is looking for a gamemaker who can help organize the three-day battle royale event. There's still a lot that we don't know about this competition, but we do know that it'll happen on a private island and the last person standing will walk away with £100,000. It'll apparently be a 12 hour competition during which the players will also get food and camping equipment. And don't worry, nobody's getting killed in the game because the players will be using airsoft gun instead of a real gun. Well, that's all the info that we have with us about this event right now. Hopefully, the richie rich will talk more about it as things begin to take shape. In the meantime, interested gamemakers who are willing to help making this a reality can apply for the position at the HushHush website, and the project pays around £45,000 for a six week contract. Yeah, this person is literally spending close to £150,000 (over Rs. 1 Cr) setting up this event, so let's see how it goes.
  10. The trailer of Karan Johar's magnum opus project 'Kalank' dropped yesterday, and so did our jaws after we saw how the movie is basically an ode to some of the classic Bollywood movies. In case you missed it, you can watch the trailer here. Is it just me or you too felt like it was basically most of us copying our friend's assignment, and making subtle changes in it before submission? The trailer didn't give us anything that we haven't seen before. Especially this particular train scene from the movie. Oops! Sorry, we got confused. This one we meant. © Dharma Productions But, how else can one board a train, right? Well, this 'iconic' scene and a few more have now turned into internet's favourite meme and we are guilty of laughing at them. The dialogues that were meant to move us are now leaving us in splits. © Dharma Productions From trolling engineers, exam pressure to IPL, none were spared during the process of making memes and probably that's what we love about desi Twitter, they don't differentiate. 11. For all who swear by Uber India, another episode of verbal harassment killed the sweet joy-ride for a woman and her husband, who'd taken the cab on a hot sultry day in the national capital. The woman, Amrita Das, who is a Delhi-based-journalist, experienced lewd comments and misbehaviour from the Uber driver, while she and her husband were travelling in his cab. She took to Twitter to share her ordeal. © Twitter "Rude and creepy driver. I demand action. First, he refused to turn on the air conditioner, then says garmi lag rahi hai to aage mere godi me baith jao [If you are feeling hot then come and sit on my lap]. He also ended the trip, moments after starting to drive and forced me out. This is when I was with husband," she tweeted. @Uber_Delhi @Uber @Uber_Support rude and creepy driver. I demand action. First he refused to turn on ac then says garmi lag rahi hai to age mere godi me baith jao. He also ended trip moments after starting to drive and forced me out. This is when I was with husband. @DelhiPolice pic.twitter.com/qE40ib3B5d — Amrita D (@amritadas) 19 March 2019 And yes, Uber did respond to her Tweet but it was not the kind of response we were hoping for. They said: "We're so sorry to hear about this. Our team has recently responded via email. Please reply there if you have additional questions." We're so sorry to hear about this. Our team has recently responded via email. Please reply there if you have additional questions! — Uber Support (@Uber_Support) 19 March 2019 This isn't the first time an Uber driver has shown misconduct towards a female passenger in Delhi. There have been numerous cases reported of women being molested or being talked back rudely to, while riding an Uber. Just recently Mallika Dua encountered an Uber driver who chose to abuse her when she asked him to increase the temperature of the air conditioning. But this incident with Amrita Das is a new low altogether, wherein the Uber driver isn't just insulting her request, he's being lewd and inappropriate with her as well. Although, Uber has received the complaint, just like always, their complacency over this matter will also rule the roost, just like the rest of them have in the past. They probably won't take action against the driver and he'll carry on driving in the city, passing horrible remarks to other women who hail his cab. © Twitter The need of the hour is for Uber to step up on their hiring operations and also take vital responsibility towards several complaints they receive about their drivers. The drivers should be thoroughly scanned before they are hired and if they misbehave, they should definitely be fired, on the ground. We're not sure why Uber dictates such apathy towards these issues but we're hopeful they'll change their ways soon before something more drastic happens. Meanwhile, Twitter came out in support of Amrita and this is what most of them had to say: Worst part is..Uber doesn't have an emergency contact number in India.. happened to us as well...hope you are okay.. — Naren (@shipsdeet) 19 March 2019 This is serious. No response from @DelhiPolice @DelhiTrafficPol ? No action taken even after having multiple harrowing experiences. Sack this driver! — Dylan San Delo (@theparambhole16) 19 March 2019 Uber has gone worst in NCR. If u'd ask to turn on AC, they'll lecture you on whether. Cab drivers in their 'prime category' are even worst. — Piyush Hans (@HansPiyush) 19 March 2019 That's why girls still hesitate to travel alone.. When will this change ð — Divya Sharma (@DivyaSh92292336) 19 March 2019 Why @DelhiPolice u aren't responding U must learn from @MumbaiPolice who are prompt in responding to public calls, they respond to even every smallest tweet — âsâ (@arieotic) 20 March 2019 Sorry from @Uber_Support isn't an answer. @DelhiPolice must take action against the driver. https://t.co/ENCI3ty20t — Mohd Mustaquim (@Mustaquimm) 20 March 2019 This is genuinely a very common occurrence. Uber should definitely suspend such drivers. — AARUSHI005 (@Aarushiwith2As) 20 March 2019 The most pertinent question though is when will women feel safe in this city? Put aside single women travelling alone, even women travelling with male companions face such threats too. Unless Uber India decisively takes action against their drivers, the situation's not going to change for sure.
  12. Majority of Indians residing within the geographic coordinates that map out the boundary of the subcontinent, fall under the category of medium to dark wheatish or “olive” skin tone. By most “English” or Western standards, we are the perfect specimen of “brown people”. While such demographic segregation and racism prevalent in the West aren't new to Indians, there is a painful truth to be experienced in the kind of off-handed racism that is practised within India, by Indians and for Indians. © Instagram The Indian subcontinent's collective blind love for the “fairer ones” is something all of us are aware of. For ages now, Indians have drooled over and craved for the lighter shades of skin tone one might find on those shade scales they proudly show off in TV commercials. However, while Indian women have had to suffer from and live under the constant scrutiny of old hags nagging them and lamenting over their “dark skin” colour for ages, they found solace in their grandmother's home remedies, that promised to lighten their skin and make them “look more desirable” as per the requirements of the Indian marriage market. © Instagram Enter commercialisation, and the home remedies were quickly replaced by magical tubes of modernised (albeit chemically formulated) “ubtan” recipes that had made their way to fancy fairness creams and lotions that thrived on women's insecurities and constant pressure to match up to the (unrealistic and cruel) social standards of beauty. The “fairness” furthering business opened a gold mine of money making opportunity that these fairness cream companies exploited for years. But things took a new turn when they made a discovery that would forever change how we saw the fairness cream industry. © Instagram Until the mid-2000s shaving creams and deodorants were the primary grooming products that were sold to men through commercial ads. However, the market study showed there was a solid opportunity of expanding men's grooming range, and soon, fairness products for men were launched. Dheeraj Sinha, chief strategy officer at Leo Burnett told QZ India that, “The men's fairness segment came about because almost one-third of users of women's fairness creams were men.” Even a Vice News report aired on HBO stated that around 60% of women and 10% of men say they use fairness products. © Instagram This led to a boom in the men's skin-care industry and as of 2017 the market grew by 40% and the industry was said to be worth around rupees 5,000 crores. That's not all, a 2015 research study by Nielsen showed that men got into the bandwagon because they believed that a fair complexion could improve their professional prospects. This only confirms that the “idea” of fair as handsome is both personal and is slowly making its way into people's reflection of themselves professionally. Yet, there also exist a lot of aware men who realise that companies are feeding on people's insecurities to cash in on more money and jump the success ladder. Bollywood actors such as Nandita Das, Kangana Ranaut and more recently Abhay Deol, have joined in to call out such companies and their products, and even fellow actors who endorse such brands and their skin whitening products. © Instagram However, since awareness is growing by the day, and more men (and women) continue to realise that they are being fooled by these companies and their products, brands are coming up with more cunning ways of selling their products to consumers. According to Sinha, “My sense is that brands will wake up to the new reality, and you will see propositions reworked around clearer skin (and) glow, rather than pure fairness,” and honestly we have already seen that happening lately. © Instagram It's disheartening to see how society's idea of “normal” and “beautiful” can disrupt people's perception of themselves, wherein they come to think of themselves as inferior to someone, merely because their skin is a shade or two darker than that of others around them. We often hear women say “love and accept yourself for who and how you are” and we hope men also follow this thumb rule and come to take pride in what has been given to them at birth. Trust us, women love that in a man, the ability to be comfortable and confident in their own skin.
  13. The Pulwama attack has shaken the country, and pulled a few raw strings that should not have been meddled with. Kashmir is a sensitive issue for the Indian subcontinent, merely because we consider it a part of us and one of our own. While some notorious elements continuously try to turn the youth of the valley against their own brethren, and often succeed in brainwashing them into believing otherwise, the mutual sense of belonging-ness and unity continues to blow strong in the valleys. © Facebook In a show of solidarity and love for the nation, its people and the armed forces, over 2,500 young men from Jammu & Kashmir turned up for army recruitment drive in Baramulla. An official spoke to ANI and said that, thousands of young Kashmiri boys turned up to serve their nation, for recruitment for 111 vacant posts in the Indian Army. Apart from earning a livelihood and protecting their families, these hopeful young men also told ANI that getting hired would also give them the opportunities to share their side of the story with the rest of the country, raise awareness and sensitise fellow Indians about the crisis in the Kashmir valley. © ANI "We cannot go outside Kashmir. This is a great opportunity for us. We wish that more vacancies are offered to us. If Kashmiri personnel will be deployed in the sensitive areas then they can talk to the people and deal with the ongoing crisis", an aspiring candidate was quoted as saying to ANI. 15. One of the privileges of my job is the relentless back-breaking travel across the length and breadth of India. Being a foodie, there are few cities that are more generous to the human palate than the 'City of Joy'. via GIPHY Across breakfast to snacks to dinner, across price points, across the year and across festivals; Kolkata has something to offer for everyone. If you haven't feasted on the following dishes during your visit, you haven't felt the spirit of 'Didi'land! Potato Of The 'Phuchka' (Not 'Gol Gappa') & 'Churmur' © Shutterstock When you see a roadside counter serving delicious crunchy tangy 'phuchka', your mind automatically forgets concerns around organic sourcing, healthy water and low-calorie food. The speciality of the Kolkata 'phuchka' is the rich potato base in addition to the sweet and tangy tamarind juice. A sister act of this dish is the 'churmur', which is crushed 'phuchka' along with its fillings. In my personal opinion, the 'churmur' is a tastier dish than its sister 'phuchka'. For a city obsessed with bibliophiles, this culinary experience is best gulped down in the narrow by-lanes of 'college street'! Somehow the chefs in the premium restaurants never get the taste of 'phuchka' right; the common consensus being the real taste comes from the salt dripping from the hand of the roadside vendor! Revenge Of The Rice Dish The generous belly lines of the working population are often attributed to rice being the staple diet of the city. Rice is served during breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. Being the undisputed non-vegetarian capital of India, the mutton biryani, for instance at Arsalan, is best tasted rather than written about. © YouTube The biryani is well-cooked with a humongous potato and is sweeter than its Lucknow counterpart. The other biryanis of the city seem like poorer replicas of your best friend's hot girlfriend! As part of your snacks, 'jhaal muri', puffed rice with generous heaps of vegetables and spicy sauces is as nutritious as economical. A walk across the Victoria Memorial without 'jhaal muri' wrapped in that day's newspaper almost seems akin to blasphemy! Most Bollywood movies shot in the city will always have a scene of a conversation with 'jhaal muri' in the background! Language Of Sweetness It is popularly believed that Bengali is one of the sweeter languages spoken around. Apparently, even the abuses tend to sound like Shashi Tharoor eloquently speaking about the morning sunrise. via GIPHY This perceived sweetness, naturally, permeates to the sugar-based products of the city. Any visit to the local sweet shop is incomplete without the mandatory 'mishti doi' (high-calorie sweetened curd), the Bengali 'rosogulla' not the Oriya one, along with the multitudes of variations in sandesh, chamcham, rasmalai. © Reddit Needless to say, most of this is affordable, even by the minimum wage standards set up by the Modi government! Not Just Deep, Really Really Deep There is one element that is deeply ingrained about local Kolkata food; it is oil, lots and lots of oil! via GIPHY In case you are looking to witness an animated philosophical conversation about the future of India between 'bhodroloks' (gentlemen), look no further than a roadside stall that makes 'beguni' (brinjal in deep-fried batter), 'aloo chop' (potato in deep-fried batter), 'vegetable chop' (beetroot and a mash of vegetables in deep-fried batter), 'mocha chop' (banana flower in deep-fried batter). © YouTube For an artificial lover of the animal species, you can always concentrate on 'fish fry' (fish fillets in a deep-fried batter), 'fish kobiraji' (deep fried fish fillets) and 'mutton chop' (lamb in a deep-fried batter). If you are keen on great oily food without the intellectual conversations, hop on to a tram and head to a local sweet shop at 7 am for 'daal puri' (lentils with deep fried bread). © wiki By now, you should have got the gist of why companies manufacturing cooking oil always want to 'look east' as part of their corporate strategy! Roll Baby Roll In case you are not in an oily food mood but are looking for local Mexican burritos for binge-watching the latest season of 'Narcos', it is imperative to bite into a Kolkata Kathi roll. © wiki Coming in various fillings of vegetarian, egg, chicken and mutton; they can give any Spanish or Mexican adaption a run for their money. The most delicious ones tend to be made around the 'pujo' (Durga Puja) time! After your binge watch, if you are not sure of the unclear ending of Narcos, wash your ambiguity away by biting into a 'Kolkata paan' (betel leaves with sweet & salty fillings)! Cauldron Of Cosmopolitan Cultures Although the local cuisine and street food in Kolkata is mouthwatering, an equally important aspect is to witness the modified versions of other cuisines which have transformed themselves into an extremely rich experience. © TheCalcuttaGirl Walk alongside New Market, adjacent to the Grand Oberoi Hotel, for a modified version of Chinese noodles, typically thinner noodles with a generous dosage of vegetables and sugar crystals, along with the healthier momos. © Tripsavvy Curiously, I have found the South Indian food in Kolkata to be delightful. While this adaptation might be a horror for the patrons of MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, Bangalore) and Sarvanna Bhavan (all across the globe), they reserve their own place in your not so flat tummy! © Wiki In conclusion, a trip to Kolkata is a culinary experience in addition to being a cultural one. Food is a great way to experience the city politically, culturally and to witness its pride in being a city that has something for everyone without any grain of bias!

Fast fashion entails all those multinational clothing brands that spring in the new seasonal trends weekly in the stores near you at mysteriously dirt cheap prices. There is an obvious hidden cost that you pay when you buy these clothes. What you don't realise is that you're harming the environment around you as these mass-produced clothes, which are not meant to last long in your closet, only create junk that makes the environment a toxic place to live in. This collection, however, brings sustainability to gym wear. Entirely made out of recycled polyester sourced from PET bottles incorporated with the latest technologies like dry-tech, anti-odour and anti-static, the collection features T-shirts, joggers, bombers, blazers, layered jackets and leggings in prints inspired by Indian textiles and Indian art. 17. When life becomes dull, it's not easy to find your spunk and fight back. In order to succeed in life, one has to make it fun, positive, and full of motivation! If you find your life boring and unmotivated, you simply won't be able to make any progress. There are many reasons why you might not be feeling any enthusiasm in your life. And there are even more ways to overcome it. Following are 4 such reasons why you might not be feeling motivated and ways to overcome it: 1. Lack Of Purpose It's very important to have a goal, to have a purpose in life. Following it keeps you sane and sorted. If you don't have a purpose, you won't find any reason to move forward in life. Set a goal, fix a target! When you wake up, you should have a goal in your head, and if you are able to successfully create one, you'll be automatically motivated to achieve it. 2. Procrastination This is the worst thing you can do to yourself. When you start postponing your affairs & chores, your mind adapts to procrastination. You won't be doing any work on time and would always feel too tired and lethargic to do so. Procrastination kills the motivation to do anything. Luckily, it's not difficult to come out of this state. Remember two things – 'the 5-minute rule' & 'schedule'. Apply the 5-minute rule in your life. Whatever task can be done under 5 minutes, don't postpone it. Do it as soon as it comes to your mind. You will see a big change in your life by applying this small rule. Small chores will be done, your mind will be happy after completing a task, and slowly, it will start to procrastinate the procrastination. Next is, schedule. Fix a schedule and strictly follow it. Decide at what time you're going to wake up, have breakfast, leave for the office, and every other thing in your everyday life. Give some time for light exercise. Sticking to a schedule would make you punctual, as you would be completing all the tasks within the deadline and this would eventually push you to aim for higher goals. 3. Lack of Money Believe it or not but lack of money can also be de-motivating. If you have gotten accustomed to a lower salary or lower returns, then you won't need the feel to work hard. You would trick yourself into thinking that two square meals & a roof above your head are good enough for you. If that has happened to you, you should become a little materialistic. Set your eye on something, something out of your budget. Convince yourself that you should buy it. You'll see yourself wanting to work harder to be able to buy it. And you would have it eventually. When that happens and you get your motivation back, work smart. Set another milestone, and in your free time, look for other sources to earn. Pick a hobby and try to turn into a profession. You would not only be enjoying your time but would be utilizing it in the most perfect way. A little extra cash would be great for your savings account or for the latest Play Station. Leave the TV Shows and booze for the weekend. On weekdays, focus on improving your income. It is not that hard to find a hobby and become good enough in it that it starts paying you. You just need to be determined. 4. Social Circle Your social circle makes a huge impact on your life. If you surround yourself with positive & happy people, you would also feel happy and motivated. However, if your friends and colleagues are unmotivated and have negative opinions on everything, then this would impact you on a great level. Their constant criticism of the world would make you look at the world the same way. You would start finding fault in everything which would give your brain a great excuse to become slothful. This is when your motivation to do anything would die and you would just spend your time doing nothing. If this is happening to you, you need to get out of such a company. Join some activities like trekking, or dance classes, or yoga classes, basically anything which would help you meet new people. This change will bring a positive impact on your life as you would not only be interacting with new people but will also be joining an activity. This will bring back the motivation you need in your life. Now that we have told you every major reason why you might be becoming an always tired – demotivated person, you should start doing the aforementioned things to achieve greatness in life. Everyone can be a hero, you just need to fight your battle and come as a winner! May the force be with you!

  20. Your sun sign impacts in more ways than one way. Ever had a creepy feeling after looking at your sun sign's tropes of how you fall under the same category? Sharing the same behavioural traits like your sun sign only suggests that in the larger scheme of things, astrology might help you function in a way that helps you be in control. You can obviously steer clear from the astrological narrative if you want to, but if you believe in sun signs and the significant impact that they might have in your life, then read further. Recently, people have begun to dress according to their sun sign which gives them a better sense of expression or makes them feel more positive or might attract their crush. Dressing by your sun sign means putting your best foot forward and expressing your best, unique self. Once you do that, there will be people who will get attracted to that kind of irresistible energy. Aries (March 21-April 20) An Aries man tackles the world head-on with no reluctance. He is confident and makes sure the world around him knows that. Take Robert Downey Jr. for example, he knows his mind and isn't afraid to put himself out there. Aries men are also extremely spontaneous. Dressing like an Aries would mean power dressing that necessarily doesn't have to be conventional. We're talking power blazers, statements ties, signature shades, and seductive colognes will work really well for you. Take a cue from Robert Downey Jr., he finds formals the best way to express himself, however, he's always added a little spunk with unconventional undertones to mark his signature style. © Instagram Taurus April 20-May 21 Taurus men are calm and gentle. They would prefer a conversation rather than locking horns in times of conflict. They're determined and stable and are sure to achieve their goals. One such Taurean is David Beckham. Dressing like a Taurean means cleaning up well. Detail matters a lot to the Taurean man. 22. Imagine living in a world devoid of the many alphabets and symbols that make up your mother tongue. A world where a,b,c or the Hindi varnmala cease to exist and one syllabic sound replaces the loaded words of our rich vocabulary. Yeah, it would be like the times of our most dated ancestors, who got through life one sign language at a time. Now that doesn't sound like much, does it? There is so much to be said, discussed and communicated on a daily basis, that spending our days pointing at stuff and making sounds in the hopes that the other person would magically read our thoughts, would hardly help to get things done. via GIPHY A language might not be the basic necessity of life, but it is something that was once feared even by the Gods, if the story of the Tower of Babel in the Book of Genesis is to be believed. No wonder it is said to be the greatest boon known to mankind, as every community on the face of this earth marvels and prides itself on the language it uses to communicate with its peers and get things done in life! And things were going exactly according to plan, until the English-speaking 'whites' came wielding the ropes of colonisation. Suddenly, English gained prominence and people were forced to learn, use and adapt it, for the benefit of the colonisers. Today, colonisers might have left, but the white man's burden has found a new home in the minds of the people living in these former colonies. Like they say, “angrez chale gaye, angrezi chhor gaye”. A recent proof of this hangover was witnessed on the global platform of Miss Universe pageant this year. A few days ago, Miss USA made certain comments about two fellow contestants' English-speaking capabilities in a live Instagram video. View this post on Instagram Regina George, is that you? This is basically like the most dramatic reality show, but condensed into 1 minute lol. @sarahrosesummers hopefully will prove that ignorance will not win you a @missuniverse title...whatever that means these days. This is basically what normalized xenophobia looks like. If she's trying to show empathy, the condescending, intolerant tone tells a different story. A reminder that you're participating in a competition in a country/continent where English is NOT the primary language. Post the virtual uproar over the matter, Summers took to Instagram to make her position clear and apologised for having hurt people's feelings 'unintentionally'. View this post on Instagram @MissUniverse is an opportunity for women from around the world to learn about each other's cultures, life experiences, and views. We all come from different backgrounds and can grow alongside one another. In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another. I am grateful for opportunities to speak with Nat, Miss Cambodia, and H'Hen, Miss Vietnam, directly about this experience. These are the moments that matter most to me. A post shared by Sarah Rose Summers (@sarahrosesummers) on Dec 13, 2018 at 9:41am PST Though Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia have come in support of Summers stating that she didn't mean any harm by her comments, many are looking at the incident as an underlying leftover of the white supremacy, which extends beyond the colour of one's skin. Language was developed for the purpose of communication, but incidents such as this one remind us of the superiority that the English language has come to enjoy over the years. Why even look at the West when we have ample amount of incidents to quote here in India? Before we go around bashing and shaming the Miss Universe contestants in question, can we please take a moment to consider the number of times we have judged another person for their inefficiency to converse in fluent English, or for having a desi accent to it when they speak? Before we point fingers, let us remember the number of times we have witnessed a person's calibre being judged on the basis of how “English” his/her persona is, how “polished” their manners are and how confidently they make their way around a discussion/presentation given in English. @MissUniverse i wonder if you will still allow Miss USA, Columbia, and Australia to continue in the competition after their racist/ bigoted remarks toward fellow contestant Miss Cambodia. I can't believe these ladies will be repersenting their countries! — Damien D.L. Johnson (@Il_Malandrino) December 13, 2018 This incident is a gentle reminder and a prime example of how not to treat those who may not be very great/confident with the English language. Because English is just another language like the 1621 languages spoken in India or the 6500 languages spoken around the world. So, let us not treat the non-English speakers with contempt, for not knowing the colonizer's language or holding on to their own. English isn't the superior language of the lot, so let's not try to turn it into one. Not being well-versed in English shouldn't turn anyone into a laughing stock. It should be as normal as saying one prefers to have coffee over tea or vice versa. Don't you agree?
  23. The latest star-kid on the block who is set to take her first step in the industry is Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh's daughter Sara Ali Khan. Her debut movie 'Kedarnath' is being produced under the Balaji banner along with KriArj Entertainment, and stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the male lead. The makers of 'Kedarnath' have now launched the first look poster of the film, and going by the poster it seems that the movie indeed holds a lot of potential for the debutante. No tragedy, no wrath of nature, no act of God can defeat the power of love! The tale narrates the story of love's raging tides as it washes over Mansoor and Mukku, played by Sushant and Sara respectively. Director Abhishek Kapoor posted, “No tragedy, no wrath of nature, no act of God can defeat the power of love!”, along with the film's first look poster. The plot traces the love story of Mansoor, a pithoo, and Mukku who stirs up a storm by coming into his life. Here's the teaser that released this noon: While the plot seems promising and the chemistry between the lead pair looks convincing, we aren't too sure about the special effects that have been put to use in the movie. The tragedy of the flood peeks through the love story that is set to unravel this winter. Nonetheless, the teaser sure seems like this would be a great debut movie for Sara, and as co-producer Ekta Kapoor said in a DNA interview, “When we heard the story, we knew this was it. It's Sara's debut opposite Sushant. That makes it a fresh pair and adds an edge to the project. 'Kedarnath' is an emotional and riveting tale that blends India's beauty with a love story from the heartland.”
