  1. Despite what the internet might have you believe, being stylish doesn't require you to stay abreast of all the latest fashion trends, or break the bank to keep up with them. The simple truth is that if you're looking to up your style quotient, there are several quicker, easier, and more affordable ways to go about it. Rather than hopping from one trend to another, upgrading what's already in your wardrobe can make quite the difference. Often overlooked in favour of some of the more recognised staples of the male wardrobe, we've put together a list of some underrated fashion upgrades you can make to instantly look more stylish. Whether it's the best underwear for men , the finest men's socks, or other fashionable accessories to embellish your overall appearance, here's what you need to invest in. Upgrade 1: Pull Up Your Socks © Pexels Although this article is all about pulling up your metaphorical socks in terms of your style quotient, we're going to start off by encouraging you to do so quite literally as well! While putting together a stylish outfit, a lot of men commit the fashion faux pas of not paying enough attention to their socks. You can pick out the perfect clothes and the finest shoes, but you'll never feel completely at ease if your socks are too itchy, too loose, or simply too garish (which often ends up being the case). Save yourself the trouble by building up a collection of the best socks for men , allowing you to finish off any ensemble with a final flourish of footwear. The wide range of colours, patterns, and prints out there even affords you the opportunity to move away from your plain old black or white cotton variants, and put your best foot forward! Upgrade 2: Indulge In Some 'Waist' Management © Pexels Even though most men wear one quite often, a belt also happens to be one of the most criminally underused fashion accessories in any man's wardrobe. In fact, most men tend to have just one in their wardrobe at any given time, wearing it everywhere and only bothering to replace it when it's almost falling apart. In reality, a well-chosen belt can even be the literal centerpiece of your outfit. And while owning black and brown leather variants is just the bare minimum, an additional colourful option (preferably in a woven fabric) will offer a more laid-back option, especially if you're going for a relaxed summer vibe. Upgrade 3: Take A 'Brief' Pause To Up Your Innerwear Game © Wikimedia Commons Even though they're meant to be hidden from public viewing, that doesn't give you a free pass to persist with the same old underwear style that you've owned for years. There will always be a more snug fit, a more flattering cut, or a more comfortable fabric that you're missing out on if you don't overhaul your underwear drawer from time to time. That's why investing in some of the newer styles, such as the best boxer briefs for men is a smart fashion upgrade. Even if you want to stay true to the classics, the best briefs for men have moved on from what you're used to, and the newer variants can undoubtedly help up your innerwear game. Upgrade 4: Jazz Up Your Suits © Pixabay Whether you wear it to an important meeting or a wedding (or the same one to both), almost every man's wardrobe includes a smart suit. With every other man wearing the same thing, how can you stand out from the rest? As it happens, it's the small details that make all the difference. Investing in quality accessories like cufflinks, pocket squares, lapel pins, and tie bars can set you apart from the Barney Stinsons of the world. Not only do they speak volumes about your superior sense of style, they even allow you the opportunity to give your suit a personal touch and make it unique.
  2. 'Game of Thrones' has everything- wars, deceit, conspicuous plot line, twisted relationships and the Stockholm syndrome! How, you ask? Well, the two most 'uninitiated' characters when it comes to love are secretly falling for each other and it all happened when one of them was captive! I am talking about Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth and just how obvious their equation seems to us now. If you look at their character build up though, both are similar in many ways. They both are quite practical when it comes to war and strategies, both are extremely emotionally unavailable and detest confronting their feelings, both have egos mightier than their own sword, both do have a soft spot for each other and they both share a sword each, yielded out of a common sword! And yet, their story is remarkable the most unanswered, yet anticipated yet. © HBO Yes, Jon and Dany were already decided as the star romance when the show even began. It just took Jon to come to Dragonstone where they fell in love almost immediately and their story unfolded in a rush. But Jaime and Brienne's underrated romance began a lot before that, with a subtle yet beautiful built up in their narrative together as two highly unlikely souls, who'd feel a certain way about each other. © HBO But their romance is not just a declaration of two characters feeling a certain way for each other to build a story in GoT, it actually teaches us a lot about resilience and respect. Right from when Brienne met Jaime till the day he knighted her, both felt an unnerving need to protect and respect each other. GoT has taught us a lot but this one equation is something that has evolved over time, beautifully and unexpectedly. © HBO (1) The Sense Of Protection Jaime initially met Brienne when Brienne took him as her prisoner to take him back to King's Landing on Catelyn Stark's orders. Jaime then was a pompous egoistic knight, who'd barely think of anyone but himself and that didn't make the journey easy for Brienne. Along the way, they were kidnapped by House Bolton loyalists and on an account of saving Brienne being raped, Jaime ended up losing his right hand, while trying to save her, in his first act of kindness for anyone else, other than his sister. In another situation, Jaime's rode back to Harenhal to save Brienne from the bear pit, where she was left to fight a bear alone and not allowed to go back to King's Landing with Jaime. Jaime came back for her, rescued her and took her back. This need to protect someone so fiercely is only palpable when there is a certain amount of love present for the person. Even Brienne spoke up for Jaime when he was questioned by Daenerys in season 8 episode 2. She spoke up to protect his honour and tell the queen that she can trust him. © HBO (2) The Endless Respect The character build-up for the two of them together started on the fundamentals of respect. Both gave each other enough space to grow and cherish the other. If you remember in season 4, before Brienne was leaving King's Landing, Jaime gifted her a suit of armour from the mix he made from remembering her measurements! It goes on to say, both were playing on each other's vulnerabilities beautifully. If you remember their bath scene from Harrenhal, Brienne let him be at his vulnerable best while he opened up to her. And since she was naked with him there, he remembered her measurements to make her the perfect armour! This aspect of respect and honour is very rare and Martin tried his best to cultivate it from these two characters on the show. © HBO (3) The Beautiful Vulnerability & Honour Of that famed Harrehal bath scene, Jaime confesses the truth behind killing the Mad King, something he's never done before with anyone. He's sad and he's lonely and she literally holds him in her arms at his vulnerable best. That binds the simplicity of their relationship in a way, that's comforting and warm. The act of love is the strongest when you open up to someone and they embrace you right after you finish talking about it and that's what Jaime did when Brienne held him at the bath. Not just that, in season 8, episode 2, Jaime calls Brienne out to knight her. She's sceptical about it because in season 5 she tells Pod “I don't want anyone following me. I'm not a leader. All I ever wanted was to fight for a lord I believed in.” But here when Jaime asks her to come forth and become a knight, Brienne in her vulnerable moment looks at Pod, who nods in assurance of her becoming a knight. It's a beautiful scene, where someone Brienne looks up to thinks she's worthy of an honour this high. © HBO We're not sure what's next for Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister. Both are warriors who will do their duty wilfully. Jaime is thankful towards Brienne for changing the way he sees things and Brienne is thankful to him for always protecting her. It seems unlikely both with survive the Night King's army but if they do, we know what true love will really look and feels like. But let's face it, nothing lasts forever in GoT and all we can do is reminisce some good times both Ser Jaime and Ser Brienne shared together.
  3. Marvel has given us a lot of friendship goals, and not just on-screen. The entire cast, especially the OG Avengers, love each other and are always very wholesome and pure on social media. They never shy away from showing how close they are to each other. While most of the time, we're focussed on Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr and their Twitter bromance, there's someone else out there taking over RDJ's spot as the best BFF for Chris. Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans have always had such a cute friendship and it's so underrated, to be honest. But, we have to thank Mark Ruffalo for bringing it up again and getting this friendship the recognition it deserves. Recently, Mark shared this behind the scenes picture from the sets of 'Avengers: Endgame'. #FBF to our long days on the #AvengersEndgame set ð¾ @ChrisEvans Only 2ï¸â£ more weeks to go! pic.twitter.com/yNYSUhHi6v — Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) April 12, 2019 It obviously got a lot of people excited in the replies but the best reply came from Chris himself. As it should be, Chris. This is my new favorite picture. https://t.co/ZUUueSDG6b — Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) April 13, 2019 But, he didn't stop there. They have been friends for years, even before the MCU even existed. In the spirit of my last tweet, here's an oldie. 4. (This copy doesn't contain any major spoilers but I would recommend you watch the show before reading it. Watch it with a fresh perspective, great things deserve unbiased applause!) The show is mostly about the Titans: Raven, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Nightwing - the first Robin. Mostly because it has the shadow of Bruce Wayne all over it, and that intriguing background makes it the best TV show of 2018. I was never much of a fan of Robin. The reason being, I admired Batman and his one-man-army approach way too much to digest the fact that Batman is working with a sidekick. But this show changed my opinion about Robin. Now, I think that Bruce needed Robin as much as Robin needed Bruce. Batman is one of the darkest characters of DC, “all about rage and violence.” Robin became the “echo chamber for Bruce's pain.” He saved Batman from slipping! That's what this show portrayed. 'Titans' is the show where DC showed who they truly are! In fact, with it, they touched a whole new level of darkness and it was a delight to feel it in each episode. The show has a gripping story, the acting couldn't be any better, and it has the right amount of thrill to make you say to yourself, “just one more episode.” What I absolutely loved about the show was how they so smoothly introduced the stories and struggles of side characters. In just eleven episodes they covered so many stories in a very neat way. Be it the birth of Hawk and Dove, or the comparison of the upbringing of Wonder Girl with Robin's, DC hit the perfect spot! “Wonder Woman was born to protect the innocent. Batman was created to punish the guilty.” Ohh how perfectly they conveyed why Wonder Girl and Robin are the way they are! Raven was the one who had darkness inside her, literally, but still, somehow Robin came out to be the darkest character of all! Talking about Raven, Teagan Croft nailed the role. Anna Diop and Ryan Potter were amazing as Starfire and Beast Boy as well. I won't be touching their stories, might give away spoilers. But I can tell you this, as soon as you're done with this show, you would want their individual shows to be made. Not just theirs, but Hawk and Dove's as well. To sum it up, if I had to dedicate a famous line to this show, it would be – “It's getting dark, too dark to see. Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door!” And that's DC for you, people! Dark, too dark to see, still feels like heaven! P.S. For all the DC fans, there's a “rich” surprise for you in the last episode.
  5. Comedy is just a funny way of being serious but there is nothing harder than doing comedy. Laughter is a big part of our lives, we must try to laugh as much as possible because life is too short to be grumpy and irritated. In recent years, TV Series' have become an essential part of our lives. A heartfelt thanks to all the writers and actors who put a smile on our faces with their humour and wit. Comedy isn't only about being funny, it is a perspective on greater problems in a jovial way; it questions the long-standing, archaic human emotions. Feeling low? Watch a funny show, you will feel positively better. Whenever it comes to comedy shows, 'Friends' and 'Seinfeld' among others always take the cake. But, there are a lot of other shows which don't get their due because of not enough fanfare or publicity, even if they are funny and have good material. Under the more popular opinion, these shows tend to get underrated. Being a 'Friends' fan myself, I can't possibly think that there is some other show which might come at par with it; this is where I stand wrong. If you only eat a particular type of food, you wouldn't get to experience the taste of others. So, branch out! Here are six of the best comedy shows (unfortunately underrated) which deserve a much bigger fanbase and greater popularity: 1. Grace and Frankie (2015-): What would you do if you found out that your partner of 40 years was gay? This is what happens to Grace Hanson and Frankie Bergstein who are well into their early 70s and find out that their respective husbands, Robert and Sol (played splendidly by Michael Sheen and Sam Waterston), are gay and have been cheating on them with each other for the past 20 years. Crazy, right? To top it off, Robert and Sol want to divorce their respective wives and get married. © Netflix / Skydance Television / Okay Goodnight This starts a series of hilarious incidents with Grace and Frankie leaving their husbands and moving into a beach house owned by both families. What follows is a funny train wreck. With starkly opposite personalities, the prim and proper Grace and eccentric, scatter-brained Frankie who hate each other and have never got along well, clash at every opportunity which ends up with comedic results; Frankie being declared officially by government offices, Sol becoming a theatre artist, Grace exploring her sexuality and dating pool, eventually Grace and Frankie becoming best friends and starting a vibrator business! If you think what a show with two old women could have in store for a young person like you, then you will be mightily surprised by the comedic elements and situations of the show; which is the main theme. Just give it a try! Why do we recommend it? - Jane Fonda is superb as Grace Hanson, the no-nonsense, uptight intelligent blonde and Lily Tomlin as the lovable, doofus, hippie-inspired Frankie Bergstein and they carry the whole show on their shoulders. - Their comedic timing is impeccable and their camaraderie from the “9 to 5” (another movie in which they starred together) days is fun to watch and effortless. © Netflix / Skydance Television / Okay Goodnight -An ensemble cast with June Diane Raphael and Brooklyn Decker as the Hanson daughters and the Ethan Embry and Baron Vaughn as the quirky Bergsteins are a hoot. - It shows how you don't need to worry about age to have fun and start afresh. Nothing more to be expected from Marta Kauffman, who gave us 'Friends'! You are sure to get a lot of 'Friends' vibes. No. of seasons: 4 Total no. of seasons: 5 (4 released, 1 to be released in 2019) 2. Schitt's Creek (2015-): Don't judge a show by its title! :D © CBC / Not a Real Company Productions When the uber-rich Roses lose their multi-million fortune to tax evasion, they are forced to leave their mansion and settle in a town, Schitt's Creek, which they once bought as a joke for their son's birthday. Follow the Roses as they try to adapt to their new life in this dilapidated town in America; starting with living in a descript, cheap motel and the town's horde of quirky characters; Roland Schitt, the creepy mayor and his innocent wife, Jocelyn among others. The series further follows the lives of the individual characters, and how they evolve; Johnny Rose: The patriarch, previous owner of a chain of video stores, Rose Videos, who is trying to come to terms with his loss and his new business ventures which mostly have funny repercussions. Moira Rose: A former TV star of a mildly successful show called 'Sunrise Bay' who can't cope with the sudden shift of fortunes and is still trying to maintain her lifestyle, complete with her over the top costumes and precious wigs (which she has individually named). Alexis Rose: The spoilt, slightly dumb and utterly selfish daughter who has breezed through life till now and been everywhere in the world, with her various rich boyfriends and is trying to be okay with her situation because she likes the vibe. :P David Rose: The gay, sassy son of the Roses, who needs everything in order and is not very happy with how his life has turned out and is trying to find some direction in life and also friends and love (and does so with the motel receptionist, Stevie Budd). © CBC / Not a Real Company Productions Why do we recommend it? -The iconic pair of Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, who play Johnny and Moira, gives the laughs and the feels for the show. Their camaraderie is unbreakable. Catherine's Moira is superlative. Only she can pull off all those different accents and the whole uptight, classy lady act. For all the troubles they face, the love for each other doesn't diminish in the slightest. Eugene is Eugene, the affectionate dad from American Pie. -The episodes are funny and earthy; they have captured the essence of human relations and portray them through comic scenarios. -“Eww David!”, Alexis' (Annie Murphy, who plays the character brilliantly) catchphrase will make you laugh every time and will make sure that you won't be able to say and hear “David” normally again. Stevie (Emily Hampshire) and David (Daniel Levy) are friendship goals; they are adorable together. -Chris Elliot as the mayor, Roland, provides the creepiness required which is balanced by his counterpart, Jocelyn, played by Jennifer Robertson. No. of seasons: 4 Total no. of seasons: 5 (4 released, 1 to be released) 3. Full House (1987-1995): Even though it was a popular show, I somehow find that it doesn't get its fair share, being termed as a family comedy. A comedy about a recently widowed guy, Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), who along with his best friend, Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier), and cool brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis, tries to raise and care for his three daughters. © WB Television / Miller Boyett Productions The series focuses on the crazy antics of the Tanner family and the hysterical situations they fall into owing to the kookiness of Joey, the OCD which Danny has and his obsessive nature and the cool dude factor of Jesse. The girls, DJ, Stephanie and Michelle, aged 10, 5 and six months, add to the charm of this family comedy. Why do we recommend it? - Before Joey Tribbiani was asking women how they were doing, it was Jesse, played by John Stamos who was making women go weak in their knees with his “Have Mercy!”. The character is tailor-made for John, with his obsession with his hair and music, he is the cool uncle we want and the guy everyone wants to be. Get a few pointers from him but follow them at your own risk! :P - Joey and Chandler are iconic, no doubt about that but so are Jesse and Joey. Their bromance will make you laugh all the way through its 8-season run. You could say that they were the “Chanoey” of the 80s. Aunt Becky (played by Lori Loughlin), Jesse's wife, doesn't have a chance. © WB Television / Miller Boyett Productions - The show features the now reclusive Olsen twins: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen as Michelle Tanner. Starting out at the age of six months, it was their stairway to success. Prepare to get sappy with their adorable acting and laugh at their fights with her on-screen older siblings. - Danny Tanner, with his penchant for cleaning, will remind you of Monica. They are basically the same person; Type A, nerdy, cleanliness freaks, I can go on and on. You will find yourself relating to him. - Dave Coulier's impressions are legendary, and you get to hear Ted Mosby's 2030 voice before it became cool, i.e. the voice of Bob Saget. No. of seasons: 8 Total no. of seasons: 8 4. Community (2009-2015): This show is what we would call the runt of the litter. Even though it has intelligent writing and superb performances, it doesn't get featured much on the comedy scene. It has an unconventional brand of humour, mostly meta humour which most people don't get or are not used to in the conventional sitcoms. It features a sarcastic former lawyer, Jeff Winger, who has been disbarred owing to his lie about having a law degree from Colombia University, as a result of which he enrols into Greendale College in order to obtain an authentic law degree. After starting a fake study group to spend more time with his new crush, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) who is an activist for various causes, his plans go awry as she invites other students into the group. © NBC / Sony Pictures What follows is a laugh riot comprising of his struggle to finish his degree with minimum effort and having to deal with a host of weird fellow students and teachers while trying to enjoy his time as a student. © Pinterest Why do we recommend it? - Joel McHale as the glib, manipulative, suave ex-lawyer, Jeff, is perfection. His chemistry with classmate Britta is believably sweet. - Abed and Troy are poster boys for friendship. Their scenes together are tummy-tickling funny and the best thing about them is that they bring out the best in each other, Abed's influence and pop-culture mania make Troy carefree and different from his bully demeanour and Troy helps Abed to become more sociable. -Ben Chang, the eccentric teacher who is constantly changing his behaviour, played by Ken Jeong (of 'The Hangover' and 'Dr Ken' fame) is hilarious. Also, Shirley and Annie add to the insanity with their antics. No. of seasons: 6 Total no. of seasons: 6 5. Psych (2006-2014): A detective comedy which centres around Shawn Spencer (James Roday), a crime consultant who has made people believe that he is a psychic and is then mainly hired by the Santa Barbara police department for solving complex crimes. What no one is aware of is that he is no psychic, but he has just heightened observational skills and a strong eidetic memory. He is joined by his best friend, the only one on the secret, Burton Gunser (Dulé Hill) who is extremely intelligent and apprehensive about joining him initially. Together, they solve crimes with hilarious incidents preceding it. © NBC Universal Television Studio / Universal Cable Productions Why do we recommend it? - The comedy is not derivative and very real. There is no canned laughter and the series relies on the comic timing of the leads completely. - The episodes are not over the top and unlike other comedies has a story. The stories are well-executed and don't drag on. - The episode starts with a memoir from the childhood of both leads usually ending with a life lesson which further helps them in cracking the case. © NBC Universal Television Studio / Universal Cable Productions No. of seasons: 8 Total no. of seasons: 8 6. Everybody Loves Raymond (1996-2005): Created by the talented Philip Rosenthal, with events inspired by his own life, it is an uproarious comedy about Raymond Barone (Ray Romano), a successful sports writer for the newspaper “Newsday”, who is sarcastic and irresponsible and as a result constantly finds himself in the middle of some or the other funny argument or jam, a creation of his own callousness. The constant struggle between his wife Debra and his mother, Marie, keeps throwing him in a tight spot, from which there is no easy escape without offending one of them. Yet again, if not these two women, he is bound to get in the middle of some familial argument, which doesn't go well for him due to his indecisiveness on any matter which sure entertains the viewer. Raymond's knack for joking even in serious situations also lands him in hot waters; he doesn't know when to crack jokes and this makes him adorable. © CBS / HBO Independent Productions / Where's Lunch Why do we recommend it? - The dry humour is a respite from the slapstick humour recent shows provide and are heavily dependent on. You are bound to get a 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai' vibe while witnessing Debra (Patricia Heaton) and Marie (Doris Roberts) arguing. - The sibling rivalry between Raymond and his older brother, Robert, a giant of a man with a sweet disposition, who is not so famous and is clearly not the parents' favourite, will surely remind you of your sibling! They keep arguing throughout the show because Robert is constantly jealous of Raymond's celebrity and likability but loves him deep down. - The show explores how family is important and how much it matters to have a loving one and how it changes you. Frank Barone, typical of his American-Italian heritage is shown to be tough but is a loving father under the surly exterior; which Raymond has adopted in a way which is a bone for contention in his and Debra's marriage. No. of seasons: 9 Total no. of seasons: 9 Now that you know that there are better shows out there, go get your fair share of laughter!
  6. Action movies are a great watch if you're really into some heavy duty stuff. I know a lot of peeps love spending a lot of time doing some crazy action movie marathons. But we've all seen those marathons, haven't we? Be it 'Die Hard' or the 'Bourne Series' or even 'Kill Bill', 'Terminator' etc. we've cued them together sometime in our life and binge watched them till we've had enough! © Warner Bros. Pictures But let's just focus on the lesser known action flicks you can spend your weekend watching instead . After all, it's our job to make your weekend a bit more interesting isn't it? Here are 7 underrated action flicks you can cue for the weekend. (1) IP Man (2008) © Mandarin Films 'IP Man' is a biographical martial arts movie based on the life of IP man, the grandmaster of martial arts-Wing Chun, who was also Bruce Lee's teacher. The modern classic action flick truly has us believing that Donnie Yen can take on an entire mob all my himself! Definitely watch this one if you're heavy into martial arts. (2) Ong Bak 2: The beginning (2009) © Sahamongkol Film International 'Ong Bak 2' is a follow up to the first part- Muay Thai Warrior and as the name suggests it's another Thai martial arts movie starring Tony Jaa. Although the names are the same, 'Ong Bak 2' has nothing much to do with the first part and is set in 15th Century Thailand, and is a fully fledged take on a historical epic, with a few elements of fantasy combined. 'Ong Bak 2' remains the single best showcase for Jaa's abilities as a great martial artist. You can literally see him beating up half the population of Thailand, with the help of his partner of course! (3) Haywire (2011) © Relativity Media With a kickass cast, 'Haywire' is a great watch if you want some sorted action flick for the weekend. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the movie revolves around Mallory Kane (Gina Carano), who works for a company that handles sensitive 'black operations'. The movie is in the same vein as the Bourne franchise , with more understated and fierce fight scenes. Gina Carano gives a stellar performance though, with her willingness to perform her own stunts, giving the actions sequences more authenticity. (4) Dredd (2012) © Lionsgate 'Dredd' is based on the 2000 AD comic strip Judge Dredd and if you've read the comics you'd know how classic this movie really is. Directed by Pete Travis, the movie unfortunately didn't fair too well because it released simultaneously with 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'The Avengers'. But fans will remain faithful of course since it's the best adaptation of the Judge Dredd comics. (5) The Grey (2012) © Open Road Films 'The Grey' is directed by Joe Carnahan and it stars Liam Neeson, Frank Grilo and Dermont Mulroney. The story is about number of 'oil-men', stranded in Alaska after a plane crash, who have to fight grey wolves who're out to get them amidst extremely cold weather conditions! The movie is the fight for survival and no one could have done it better than Neeson himself. I mean, he's the only middle-aged action hero who still looks good on camera and this movie surely falls in the same league as 'Taken'! (6) Edge Of Tomorrow (2014) © Warner Bros. Pictures 'Edge of Tomorrow' is a science fiction film starring Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise. The screenplay is adapted from a Japanese novel called 'All You Need Is Kill'. The film is futuristic and shows most of Europe invaded by Aliens. With some great action sequences, the film deserved a lot more love than it got back in 2014. But it's a great watch regardless. (7) Everly (2015) © Dimension Films The film has Salma Hayek, who obviously steals the show any given day! The film didn't have a chance to make it in the league of some popular action movies but it definitely has Hayek proving that she can play a gun-toting action heroine without any trouble. The movie revolves around her being a *** slave for the brutal Japanese criminal overlord Taiko, until Taiko realises she's been working with the police to bring his cartel down. So we've given you one busy weekend in front of your television sets/laptops, to binge watch these crazy and very underrated action movies. If you make out alive by the end of the weekend, you know you've had a successful run!
  7. We cue his movies any season or reason and there isn't a dearth of them at all. Yes, I am talking about the undisputed king of Bollywood- Shah Rukh Khan and the best of him, throughout our growing up years and now. Since it's his birthday today, we decided to celebrate it like everyone else is in Bollywood and maybe give away nuggets of his brilliant work, throughout the day. But even other than that we don't really need a reason to write about King Khan, do we? From giving us crazy blockbusters like 'DDLJ' & 'K3G' to standing in his quintessential pose, making all the women go weak in the knees, SRK has literally done it all. No wonder he's the king. He displays everything a king needs to have, doesn't he? © Twitter We love all of SRK's hits. Literally all of them! But there are some movies he's done which haven't really fared too well in the box office but have had a good script and some extremely good acting by the man himself. We'd classify that as some of his most underrated work, which needs to be seen more to be appreciated just as well as his hits. So, here's listing 5 of the most underrated movies SRK has ever been in, which are definitely a must watch. (1) Swades © UTV Motion Pictures I honestly don't know why this one failed in the box office. This is hands down one of SRK's best work. Based on a true life story about an NRI who comes back home in search for his true calling. Shah Rukh nailed the role to the T and gave us a brilliant performance. The music has definitely done great justice too. Remember, 'yun hi challa chal rahi'? Watch trailer here (2) Paheli © Red Chillies Entertainment Paheli is another brilliant scrip that didn't fair too well in the box office. It's the first of its kind fantasy film, done really tastefully, it makes your heart melt with the sheer benevolence. A ghost (played by SRK) falls in love a woman and does everything in his power to be with her. The movie is a remake of a 1973 Hindi movie 'Duvidha' by Mani Kaul. The cast is stellar and the story is beautiful. Definitely watch this when you want to watch a good Shah Rukh Khan movie. Watch trailer here (3) Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na © Shemaroo Video Pvt. Ltd. Come on, we've all loved this movie and watched it umpteen number of times when we were kids, didn't we? SRK's playful, boyish love stuck character definitely stood out and we hated the fact that he was left heartbroken in the end! But ,we still watch the movie any chance we get and definitely sing along to all its songs too! This one's a must watch if you're looking for a fun movie. Watch the trailer here (4) Yes Boss © Venus Records & Tapes Yes Boss was a simplistic drama of the 90s, which was really heart-warming and was liked by everyone who saw it. SRK plays the 'yes man' in the movie who literally does anything his boss asks him. But when his boss asks him to set him up with the girl Rahul (SRK) has the hots for, the movie takes a serious twist. We still love the songs from the movie and of course Shah Rukh and Juhi's adorbale onscreen chemistry. (5) Rab Ne Banaa Di Jodi © Yash Raj Films One of Shah Rukh's commercial endeavours under the Yash Raj Banner, this film was well put together and thought out. At least I enjoyed watching it thoroughly. It also happened to be Anushka Sharma's first ever in Bollywood. The film revolves around Anuhska marrying the introverted and timid SRK, against her will of course and SRK doing anything in his power to make conversations and keep her happy but she isn't happy with him. While enrolling in a dance competition, she's looking out for a dance partner and SRK dons the role of the extroverted and fun loving 'Raj' to win her love over. The only thing got me wondering was the fact that Anushka (Tanni) didn't realise Raj was her husband all through the movie! But it was a good watch regardless. Watch the trailer here So, there we have it. 5 most underrated SRK movies. Has he ever been an inspiration to you in anyway? I remember I had male friends when I was younger, who loved watching his movies and thank him today for teaching them that it's okay for men to show emotions and for them to cry. Kudos SRK, we wish you a 100 more years in Bollywood and in life!
  8. There is a popular opinion that does rounds in the misinformed section of the fitness community regarding walking. Some even go to the extent of creating stupid videos for some hits and likes on these misinformed topics that make claims like 'walking will not help you lose weight', 'walking is just an activity and does nothing as your body easily adapts to it', so on and so forth. © Pixabay True, walking does not help you lose weight. In fact, any particular exercise does not make you lose weight. To oversimplify it, what makes you lose weight? Eating less and moving more helps you lose weight. Create a caloric deficit, follow it, you will lose weight. Add protein and weight training to the mix if you want to be muscular and look good naked after losing the weight. Now let's see how walking can be a super beneficial thing to do to lose weight and how it changes the game completely. Caloric deficit = Energy expenditure > Energy intake Energy intake is the food that you eat and Energy expenditure can be broken down into four components: 1. RMR - Resting metabolic rate 2. TEF - Thermic Effect of Feeding 3. TEA - Thermic Effect of Activity 4. NEAT - Non-exercise Activity Thermogenesis RMR is related to your bodyweight, TEF to the amount of food you are eating, TEA to your exercise schedule. All of these are variables you understand and have certain control over. The NEAT is where things become tricky. NEAT or the non-exercise activity thermogenesis stands for all the subconscious activity that you do during the day that is not considered as exercise. © Pixabay Due to the sedentary lifestyle and the office jobs most people have these days, they are sitting on a desk for 8 to 12+ hours in a day. Even though they might be working out hard in the gym and considering themselves active, the 40 to 50% of the day spent on a desk still makes them sedentary. For this very reason, your NEAT can vary anywhere between 15 to 50% of your RMR. Let's say your RMR is 1500 kcals, your NEAT could be anywhere between 250 to 750 kcals per day. Another thing that has been documented by studies is that your NEAT increases with overfeeding and decreases with underfeeding or when trying to lose weight. As you can see, this reduction in NEAT can reduce your energy expenditure anywhere between 250 kcals to 750 kcals in the above example. This is a significant number and can reduce your weight loss to absolute nil and make you think that your metabolism is damaged. How Do You Counter This? By consciously increasing your sub-conscious activity! Insert the superhero of activity here that is walking. You can simply push your NEAT up by keeping a count on the number of steps you are taking per day and slowly pushing it up. You can buy a lower-priced step counting wearable or simply install an app to count your steps for the day. Walking also makes to the top of the list as it is not physically straining and does not hamper your recovery in any way. You can listen to a podcast, connect with a long lost friend or simply take a family member with you and have a conversation with them. So to those coaches who think walking is useless, you need to educate yourselves a bit better and those who are struggling to lose weight and thinking their metabolism is broken, it is not. Just push up your NEAT. Author bio: Pratik Thakkar is the co-founder and director of GetSetGo Fitness, an online fitness company.
