  1. Karan Johar recently opened up about how Bollywood industry has evolved in terms of the depiction of sexuality in films. Speaking at an event in context with his much-awaited upcoming film, Dostana 2, the filmmaker said that it will treat the topic of sexuality with utmost sensitivity. Dostana 2 is a sequel of the 2008 film Dostana, and features Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and debutant Lakshya among others in significant roles. The 47-year-old filmmaker was speaking at 'We The Women' curated by Barkha Dutt and he said, “Dostana was caricaturish, even in a cinema that I had produced but today I wouldn't do that. The evolution is from one Dostana to the other. Dostana one that was released in 2008 and the Dostana 2 that's releasing in 2020, you will see that the representation is accurate, non-caricaturish and on point, talking about sexuality in a way that will not make you cringe while watching it.” He added, “So therein lies the fact that in the last 12 years, there has been a solid change in the way we depict gay characters. Even in Kapoor & Sons and the way it was depicted.” View this post on Instagram For #wethewomen today!! He said he didn't think there were going to be repercussions. “I didn't think that there were going to be repercussions. Cinema is such an impressionable medium. It was just things that you didn't think of and then when you're told, you realise that they are true. You've to apologise to the society that you possibly scarred as a result of what you put out there,” he said. “I can't take back those songs that I put out there in cinema that have objectified women but I can say for a fact that I will not do it again,” he added. Dostana 2 is helmed by Collin D'Cunha and is written by Navjot Gulati, Sumit Aroraa, and Rishabh Sharma. View the full article
  2. A pair of axe-wielding thieves pulled off what might be the greatest art heist in decades, after breaking into one of Europe's most valuable vaults and escaping with treasures worth upwards of $1 billion. The heist took place at Grünes Gewölbe (The Green Vault), a museum in Dresden, Germany. Dresden has been a historical capital of culture and the arts for Germany, surviving through horrific bombings during World War 2 and retaining a legacy that has lasted since the early 1700s. It has since been used as a display venue for a collection of about 3,000 antique jewellery pieces, and many consider it to be one of the oldest and most valuable collections in the world. So How Did They Do It? At the heart of any good heist story is a good plan, and the people behind this theft were clearly well-prepared to deal with potential challenges. The plan was set into motion at 4am on a Monday morning, when the thieves set a controlled fire at Dresden's Augustus Bridge. © There has been a bridge at this very spot for nearly ten centuries - a testament to Dresden's rich culture. (Wikimedia) The fire was a carefully planned move to destroy a nearby power box. Once the unit failed, it cut off power to all security systems in the museum, except for the CCTV cameras. Soon, the thieves snuck their way towards the 'Jewel Room' window, cut its iron bars off, and entered the vault within. NEW: Surveillance video from Dresden's Green Vault museum shows the moment two thieves smash open a cabinet before stealing three historic jewelry sets reportedly valued over $1 billion https://t.co/R810RswOdt pic.twitter.com/BaNHmfTkjv — CBS Evening News (@CBSEveningNews) November 25, 2019 The Jewel Room itself had 10 sets of priceless jewelry, three of which were nabbed after the thieves smashed their casings with axes. The stolen items include the diamond-laden breast star of the Polish Order of the White Eagle, a hat clasp with a 16-carat diamond, a diamond epaulet and a diamond-studded hilt containing nine large and 770 smaller diamonds, along with a matching scabbard. That's a lot of goddamn diamonds. According to German tabloid Bild, the jewels are worth around $1.1 billion, or nearly Rs 8,000 Crores. Marion Ackermann, General Director of Dresden's state art collections, said it was likely impossible to estimate the price of the stolen items due to their historic cultural value. The loot could have been even more ludicrous if the museum's 41-carat 'Dresden Green Diamond' wasn't on loan to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art - the incredibly rare gem was mined from Kollur in Andhra Pradesh some 300 years ago. Taking off with the goods, the thieves fled the crime scene just about an hour after beginning the heist, at 5 AM. Naturally, the heist has drawn immense interest on the internet. Many people were taken aback by how easy the heist actually seemed: In this age and times they still keep valuables behind 2mm glass? — Thomas Okumu (@okumu_thomas) November 25, 2019 I thought they use cutting edge laser technology for glass, doors and wall. Still a hammer works ð pic.twitter.com/H6tHwbPBY6 — chandrasekhar (@sekhar11235) November 26, 2019 While others inevitably drew some movie comparisons - this story is right out of a Hollywood blockbuster, after all. :) pic.twitter.com/ssgrSe4vkd — Marcin WÄtrobiÅski (@mar_watrobinski) November 25, 2019 Many compared the heist to the wildly popular Oceans series. The ensemble-cast thriller starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon and more centers itself around high-profile heists - usually in casinos. What's truly fascinating however, is that the value stolen by these 'Dresden thieves' amounts to nearly thrice the amount stolen in Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve combined! via GIPHY Currently, police and the public at large are speculating who the mastermind behind the heist is. No prime suspects are currently in play, though. View the full article
  3. Shahid Kapoor and his stylist have been giving us one dapper style statement after the other for quite some time. However, throughout the year, some of the ensembles that the wonderfully talented stylist has curated for the Kabir Singh star has been truly wonderful. © Instagram/theanisha Well, for a recently organised award ceremony, Anisha one-upped the designers and presented a really zany and head-turning ensemble, that, honestly, should become the yardstick of how printed suits should be. © Viral Bhayani Shahid was seen in a rather kitschy black and white suit, complete with a co-ordinated shirt that quite simply is a masterpiece in itself. The suit's a courtesy of Sahil Aneja, a New Delhi based menswear designer who has been known to push the envelope every now and then when it comes to reimagining a classic suit. © Instagram/theanisha The suit that Shahid is wearing is traditional only in terms of its silhouette, which, to be quite honest, is hard to take note of, thanks to the zany and eccentric print. © Instagram/theanisha As for his choice of accessories, this is a classic example of why, more often than not, less is indeed more. A very basic watch from Tommy Hilfiger is perhaps the best thing that could have been added to the suit, and that's exactly what Shahid did. The watch, with its minimalistic, but overtly pronounced dial size does work well with the ensemble. © Instagram/theanisha And finally, there are the black, studded lace-ups that Shahid has paired with the ensemble. They certainly add an edge to his ensemble and complements the suit itself, rather well. They seem to be a bespoke pair of lace-ups from Shutiq. © Viral Bhayani The studs sit really well against the patent leather that makes up for most of the shoe's construction. © Viral Bhayani For men who are all set to get hitched this year, or are even invited to a wedding, this is a really nice look to base their outfits on. Kudos Shahid & Anisha! View the full article
  4. It's been months since Avengers: Endgame came out and people took their time to deal with Tony Stark's death. Everything was going okay, but no, Marvel had to come back and break everyone's hearts once again. Remember the widely talked about deleted scene with Tony Stark and his grown-up daughter Morgan? It takes place right after he snapped his fingers and saved everyone in the universe while sacrificing himself. The setting is just like when Thanos talked to a younger version of Gamora right after he snapped in Avengers: Infinity War. Well, we knew that scene would be extremely emotional, but oh no, we didn't know what was coming our way. The scene is out, it was released on the Disney Plus streaming service, and trust me, you are not ready for all the feels. Here you go, might induce some tears. IM SOBBING pic.twitter.com/AQzuFgBq8m — ⨠(@natstarks) November 12, 2019 I feel like it was a good idea to not put this in the final cut of the movie, otherwise, the entire theatre would just be sitting there crying. It's a very meaningful scene, and Tony can finally rest now knowing his daughter gets to grow up. Moreover, it feels even more emotional if you take into consideration Tony's relationship with his father. He can be at peace knowing his daughter loves him and is proud of him, something he never heard from his own father. Also, that 'I love you 3000' at the end was just there to make sure literally everyone cries, right Marvel? Well, you got what you wanted. Talking about this scene in the video commentary, Joe Russo said, "We felt it ground the movie to a halt and we felt he did something similar in the next sequence when he gives his own eulogy. What can happen in a film this big is you can have ending after ending after ending and it starts to feel like the movie's never going to end. When you have too many [ending] sequences in a row, you can dilute the value of each one of them." That's actually true, too many endings would have ruined the movie and the perfect goodbye and send off for Tony. On the bright side, we can all cry together at this particular scene now. “I love you 3000” I did not expect to be crying like a baby after watching the morgan and tony deleted scene but i AMpic.twitter.com/L17oPoQwlu — bi-derman (@IR0NSPIDEY) November 12, 2019 Yeah, she's not...good. okay but i don't like her at all as morgan and a part of me is glad they cut this scene ð — sara (@carolsalouette) November 12, 2019 "Welcome to your tape." 5. Knowing how to apply a perfume might appear to be a no brainer for you but perfume is an integral part of your personal style and people tend to remember you by your fragrance. There are so many different ways of applying it and the risk is you will either end up smelling worse or give an overwhelming whiff to every person. But, you can quickly master the art of applying it. Thankfully, this guide will come handy and let the fragrance last the whole day. 1. Buying The Right Cologne © Istock The first thing you need to know here is to not look for a cheap scent that will wear off straight after a minute of its application. We recommend you try out fresher summery fragrances like woody or spicy colognes. They work well for winters too! Use the samples between your wrists and wait for a minute. This will help you understand how the perfume matures over time. 2. Applying It The Right Way © Istock The better you are at applying it, the chances of it lasting longer are higher and you will also get the most out of every bottle. Ensure your skin is dry when you are done with your shower as this will allow your fragrance to get trapped. Next, you need to identify your heat spots and those could be your neck, inner elbows, wrists and armpits. Spray only onto these areas but from a distance. Apply it lightly on your heat points. Bonus tip: Don't rub your wrists. 3. The Lasting Effect Of Your Cologne © Istock Your perfume's ability to last longer totally depends on the way you keep it. Many people tend to get sloppy when it comes to storing the fragrance. Never keep it near the bedside table as it will be exposed to different temperatures that will turn down the fragrance level. Keep it in a dark, cool place. This quick tip will let you smell great all day long! 4. Wear It At An Appropriate Time © Istock Applying cologne is your best bet to be confident, no matter where you are. But you need to be aware of how it blends with your natural oils. For example, if you are going to a party, apply only a few sprays. Your body odour can get mixed with the cologne that will only make you stink and not smell fresh. 5. Dab It Well © Istock If your cologne doesn't include a nozzle, use the dabbing process to apply it the right way. Once you have opened it, cover it with your fingertip. Take the liquid on your finger and dab it on your pulse points. One dab of it is enough and once you are done, wash your hands thoroughly. 6. Don't Apply It Too Often © Istock Once you start using a particular cologne, you will get used to the fragrance and you might think it has worn off. But, that doesn't mean you reapply it more than twice a day. Apply it before you head out and use it later when you actually feel there's a need, spray it and make sure to keep it light. 6. While growing up, we learnt some basic and fundamental manners in school which are still engrained deep within our psyche. More than manners, the values we were taught went a long way and sometimes, they got infused in us through autopilot conditioning. For example, respecting those who are elderly, helping others in need, being honest, so on and so forth. But the thing with teaching these values in school was, there was no testing ground for them there. Our real test was always in the real world when we started growing up, post-school and applying these lessons in values and manners in the outside world. © Livemint This school in Tamil Nadu, though, wants to test the lesson and values it teaches its students in school and hence, it conducted a rather unique social experiment. In a bid to test how honest, sincere and value-imbibing the students are in this Panchayat Union school in Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, the staff set up an 'Honesty Store', to test kids on their sincerity, through the most practical way ever. The Honesty Store is a stationery shop which works on the principle of free will. The students can come to pick any item of stationery like books, pencils, erasers etc. and drop an amount for whatever they've purchased in a box placed there. This way, the student learns a good lesson in honesty, if he or she picks out. This concept was first perceived by Mekela, a math teacher in the same school. There is no one present at the store to monitor payments and so, children are left on their own discretion to pay, teaching them an erstwhile lesson in honesty and basic civil responsibility. © Edexlive "The main idea behind the 'Honesty store' is to teach children life-orientated lessons. We want the children to be self-aware and honest" said Mekela in an interview with a popular publication. Even though teaching them to be honest and responsible is through an experiment, the parents can actually see a stark difference in the kids' mannerisms towards social responsibility and being more honest. "Many times, students come and ask for particular items, which are not sold in their villages. In those cases, we purchase whatever is required. Every month we sell items for anywhere between Rs 1000-1200 at least,", said S Baskaran, an English teacher in school. © Amar Ujala The concept of 'pay what you will' is not a new one. It's an ardent way to ensure the people realise the value of the services they've endured. It first started in Auroville, Tamil Nadu, a community space where people got together to build a sustainable lifestyle. Every coffee shop and restaurant at the place has a box where you can put in any amount, if you liked the service. Even though that's not a social experiment but is a way to enhance gratitude, this school in Tamil Nadu has definitely taken it a notch up and made it into an experiment. The kids actually use the money box wisely and put in a sum of whatever they think the product is worth, and never take anything for free. “They make sure to speak the truth and we are happy about it. A little act of honesty can help shape their career drastically,” parent of a Class VI student told a popular publication in an interview. © The Hindu The school has a strength of about 126 students, currently, and the program is about a year old and still running successfully. We feel it should be implemented in more schools, especially schools in most cosmopolitan cities of India. View the full article
  7. There isn't a doubt that Shah Rukh Khan is one of the most loved celebrities in India and also, across the globe. The Badshah of Bollywood's birthday was celebrated all across the globe. Burj Khalifa was also lit up with a special message for Shah Rukh on his birthday yesterday. Meanwhile, the whole Bollywood wished SRK for his special day, from Karan Johar to Ayushmann Khurrana, Madhuri Dixit, Kartik Aaryan, Bomana Irani and many others. However, here's how SRK's neighbour and a colleague took to Instagram to share a warm birthday wish for Shah Rukh Khan in the cutest possible way. 8. Days after he lit up the Adelaide Oval with his action-packed innings against the visiting Sri Lankan side during the first of three T20I matches, Glenn Maxwell requested to be granted an indefinite break from playing international cricket due to mental health struggles. Even though the cricketer was performing against Lasith Malinga's men like he used to in his early 20s, Maxwell came out and let Cricket Australia know about the things that were bothering him and was “proactive in identifying these issues and engaging with the support staff,” according to Michael Lloyd, the team's psychologist. Not taking this situation lightly and understanding where the 31-year-old was coming from, the team showed their utmost support for the cricketer and granted him the leave without making a big fuss about it. © Reuters "The well-being of our players and staff is paramount. Glenn has our full support," said Ben Oliver, CA's general manager of national teams. "Cricket Australia will work collaboratively with Cricket Victoria's support staff to ensure Glenn's well-being and his reintegration into the game. "We ask that everyone gives Glenn and his family and friends space; and respects their privacy at this time. He's a special player and an important part of the Australian cricket family. We hope to see him back in the team during the summer. It's important we look after Glenn and all our players." The Head Coach of the Australian side, Justin Langer commended Maxwell for his ability to come forward and let the world know that “he wasn't OK”. © Reuters "It took great courage for him to tell us he wasn't OK," Langer told the reporters in Melbourne. "In one way, it's really good for him to do that. Behind the mask of the great entertainer and the great talent and the great team man and everything we see publicly, a lot of these guys are human and they're hurting a bit. Hopefully, he's going to be fine." This is where the Australian cricket team managed to win hearts of not only their fans but of their own players as well. Ever since the sandpaper gate that led to the suspension of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameroon Bancroft, the “win at all cost” atmosphere of the dressing room was heavily slammed. © Twitter This transition to becoming such a player-friendly side is worth the praise. The Indian cricket team, better yet the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) must learn a thing or two about the necessity to give importance to the athletes' mental health. The Indian women's cricket team have been requesting the Indian cricket board for months to have a psychologist added to the Indian support staff who can travel with them but the BCCI have been constantly ignoring them. © Reuters Mental health and its impact is real as well as serious. If you expect your athletes to perform at the highest level, the focus on mental fitness should be equal to physical fitness. View the full article
  9. At 34 years of age, Pankaj Advani has already achieved everything there is to achieve in the world of snooker. A 23-time World Champion who has an amazing hat-trick of hat-tricks in English billiards, with the World, Asian, and Indian National Championship titles simultaneously in his name in five different years, yet the man is as humble as one can be. Always the first to extend his hand for a handshake and introduce himself even though the world knows about him, one wonders where does he get his humility and meekness from? Scared and all out of money, afraid for their lives, they somehow managed to make it back to India. However, their suffering had not ended yet as a couple of years later, Pankaj's father expired. “That's when my mom made the conscious decision of raising the two of us (Pankaj and his elder brother, Shree) instead of working. Every day after school, Pankaj would follow his brother and his friends back to a snooker parlour, where he'd just watch them play for hours. For the first three weeks, he didn't even touch the cue because he was short and underaged. So he sat in a corner and tried his best to understand the game. “I am really good at observing things so I'd watch my brother play and try to understand the technicalities of the game. I would notice his stance and the way he bridged,” he said. Finally, Pankaj decided to give the game a shot. He has clearly come a long way since then. Now, he believes that if there's something that needs to be said, he would say it. “I feel like If you are holding yourself back all the time, you are living in a world of pretend,” he said. It would not be after he wins a certain number of world championships or when he reached a particular age. It will happen when he believes that he is ready to retire. As a fan of Tennis legend Roger Federer, Pankaj feels that there is a need for individual athletes to think beyond their own good and work towards having a bigger impact their sport and society. It is because of this very reason that the 34-year-old has started an initiative called Cue School by Pankaj Advani, with a mission to introduce cue sports in schools and ensure that young kids get the chance to start playing as soon as possible. It's literally impossible for him to not make anything and everything he does funny or sarcastic, he will always be there to make everyone laugh with his movies and his social media posts. This time, he had a great congratulations poster for another comic book movie. Basically, Joker crossed Deadpool to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie and well, Ryan took that in his stride. He found a great way to commemorate Joaquin Phoenix's Joker breaking Deadpool's record and it's just so in character for him. Just look at the poster he especially got made for the iconic villain. R-Rated box office congratulatory posts aren't like the ones you're used to... pic.twitter.com/OTy2BqIP4f — Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) October 25, 2019 The picture does go perfectly with what Ryan had to say about losing the record, but he also didn't forget all the other high-grossing R-rated movies in the process. © Twitter There's Deadpool, of course, then Neo from The Matrix, Pennywise from It, Jesus from The Passion Of The Christ. Next up is Ryan's BFF Hugh Jackman, and I love how it just says his name instead of his character. There's no Wolverine, it's just Hugh. Then, there's The Wolfpack from The Hangover, Mr.Grey obviously from 50 Shades of Grey, and finally, there's Ted. © Twitter He just said 'You motherfucker' to Joker and it's like the message is signed by all the characters mentioned above. The heart emoji is a good touch. Along with poking fun at Deadpool's record being broken, he's basically making fun of the entire concept of filmmakers and directors sending out congratulations posters when another movie surpasses there. A recent example for that would be the posters James Cameron shared after Avengers: Endgame beat Titanic and Avatar. Coming back to the poster, this obviously got a lot of love. I mean, it's Ryan, he'll always get a lot of love for anything he does. @GraceRandolph And you called it. Aperfect, very RR response with a hunk of respect and humor. — Shannon (@Super_Shanko) October 25, 2019 Exactly. The way I see it, he's comedically talking down to the film. Like, he's jealous that Deadpool isn't on top anymore. But again, in a funny way. He's actually congratulating it. — David Mirea (@davidm_logan) October 25, 2019 Martin Scorsese, what's good? When the top 2 highest grossing R rated movies of all time are both based off of Comic Book Characters: pic.twitter.com/p16A5YqU4y — Gates Guarin (@GatesGuarin) October 25, 2019 Yes, for sure. 11. Ibrahim Ali Khan has everything to make it big in Bollywood. Drop-dead good looks, genes from the quintessential royal family of Bollywood, and a family name that almost certainly guarantees a huge fan following. © Instagram/abujanisandeepkhosla Even before his Bollywood debut, Ibrahim is a favourite among designers, who are lining up left, right and centre for him to showcase their latest collections. And if Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are an example of the zeitgeist in tinsel town, Ibrahim is doing a pretty good job. Recently, Ibrahim shot for Abu & Sandeep and their latest collection, called Mard, which had a really awesome collection of striped sherwanis and bandhgalas. Here, take a look. © Instagram/abujanisandeepkhosla The striped jacket and trousers with accents really go well with the patterned mules. Furthermore, the abstract manner in which some of the areas have been made to clash with the generally horizontal stripes should allow for an interesting visual aspect. © Instagram/abujanisandeepkhosla The bandhgala also, with its frilled neck and bejewelled cuffs, look classically regal, all the while carrying a modernistic undertone with it. The array of medallions that are being used as brooches, further add to the aristocratic appeal of the bandhgala. © Instagram/abujanisandeepkhosla The brooches in themselves are a work of art, replete with traditional designs and motifs. Another bandhgala from the collection that's worth mentioning is this one, with a simpler aesthetic. The striped placket, and the similarly striped lower half of the bandhgala have an understated appeal. © Instagram/abujanisandeepkhosla But our favourite piece from the collection has to be this shacket. © Instagram/abujanisandeepkhosla The stripes and the silhouette, combined, give it a very kitschy feel. The ultra-large pockets and the stripes flowing in the opposite directions give it a very militaristic or utilitarian appeal.
  12. Lewis Hamilton, the guy who rules the asphalt race circuits all around the world recently took to his Instagram account to announce that the world would soon come to an end if we continue to eat animals. "Hey world, I hope everyone's enjoying their day. I'm sad right now with the thought of where this world is going,” wrote the 34-year-old Formula One world champion. i am lewis hamilton, lewis hamilton is me pic.twitter.com/PTOqMM3aEu — ðððð (@lovelyleclerc) October 15, 2019 "Extinction of our race becoming more and more likely as we over use our resources. The world is a messed up place. World leaders either uneducated or don't care about the environment at all. I urge you to do some research, find the compassion I know you have within you to recognise what you are contributing to in terms of what you eat which keeps the meat and dairy industry flourishing and therefore deforestation, animal cruelty, our seas and climate decaying on a daily basis. Go vegan, it is the only way to truly save our planet today. It can be done so quickly, all you have to do is put your mind to it. Honestly I feel like giving up on everything. Shut down completely. Why bother when the world is such a mess and people don't seem to care. I'm going to take a moment away to gather my thoughts. Thank you to those of you who do give a damn about the world." This is where the hypocrisy steps in. Formula One as a whole burns approximately 7 million gallons of jet fuel during just one season just to bring the “sport” to the fans all over the world. Which essentially means that even before the race begins and the “super fast”cars turn on their engines, F1 has already emitted a staggering 147 million pounds of carbon dioxide. A single formula 1 car emits 17 tons of carbon dioxide a year. So F1 is dull and bad for the planet too! — Jonathan Baldwin â (@jbaldwin) April 1, 2009 Personally, Hamilton turned vegan a couple of years ago in hopes of contributing to the cause of saving the planet. However, according to a Daily Mail report, the racer has his dog Coco fly from his Malibu house in his private jet to “catch up” with Roscoe, his second dog who prefers to live in the UK. The 5,400 mile flight between Los Angeles and Heathrow generates 1.67 tonnes of CO2. Lewis Hamilton concerned about climate change. Sweet coming from a man that fly's his dog around the world on his private jet... — Neil Johnson (@neil66johnson) October 16, 2019 So, maybe there's another way to save our planet other than turning vegan? Maybe Hamilton himself can contribute towards filling the personal hole that he has dug in our Ozone layer by simple having his dogs live together and reduce the number of trips his private jet makes? I mean, if he can ask us to turn vegan for the sake of our planet, we can at least ask him to reunite his pets Coco and Roscoe, albeit it will cause some initial discomfort the bulldogs. Alternatively, the sudden urge to write such a heartfelt appeal to his fans to boycott all animal-based products could be to promote the vegan burger joint that the Englishman recently invested in? @LewisHamilton goes VEGAN. Feels like giving up on everything. Well that's a shocker ðð I wonder if he will give up on his new business venture = VEGAN Restaurant ð NEAT BURGER £23 for 2 for shite (McDonald type) food + another £10 for drinks. ðhttps://t.co/tKjOhlFrja pic.twitter.com/AjULPAppH5 — Vin©ï¸ent Harris (@Vhtempopro) October 16, 2019 Which simply makes the whole scenario even more disappointing because that would mean that Hamilton doesn't actually care about the environment and just wants to make profits off the ongoing climate crisis. Twitter users called BS on the racer's phony appeal: @LewisHamilton I am super fan of yours. But this #Vegan malarkey from you is utterly unjustifiable. I mean how can I when you Drives cars that you do with tries and fuel you burn through, The jet that you fly in around the world in. I mean Seriously mate think about it?? — Munawwar Ashraf (@Munawwar_) October 16, 2019 Will you go to Berlin by air? Please have the vegan meal on-board as that will offset the rest of the emissions causing climate change. You'll be a real hero if you do. — Martin Lopez (@Martin_Lopez) October 16, 2019 You need to get @LewisHamilton on and ask him about being a vegan and wanting to save the world and then ask him how much co2 his car gives off at his work place @piersmorgan @susannareid100 — Kenny newey (@NeweyKenny) October 16, 2019 Opens up a vegan restaurant then uses his platform to extol the virtues of veganism - rather transparent ulterior motive there @LewisHamilton — Troglodytarum Vos (@sbbjenny) October 16, 2019 @LewisHamilton So you want everyone to go Vegan to save the planet BUT it is fine for you to earn millions driving a F1 car while jetting around the World??? Why not lead by example. — Paul Lister ð¬ð§ (@Paul_Lister73) October 16, 2019
  13. As a child, I've always dreamt of appliances that I could control with a remote; simply because I am lazy and don't want to get up to switch off my lights or fans. Now that IoT devices are becoming more affordable, we now have smart bulbs that don't cost a bomb. Xiaomi is one of those companies that makes a smart bulb that costs a fraction of whatever else is available to buy. Xiaomi already makes Air Purifiers, LED strips and now has brought the 'Mi Smart Bulb' to India via crowdfunding. It costs Rs 999 for people who choose to back the product while the retail price could be anywhere between Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,500. Other companies such as Philips and Wipro do make similar products but are not as aggressively priced as Xiaomi's offering. © Xiaomi Unlike Phillips Hue smart lights, the Mi Smart Bulb does not require a bridge to operate. It connects directly to your Wifi and can be controlled from either the Mi Home app or the Yeelight app. You can use the app to customise the different moods for your room straight from your smartphone, as long as there is an internet connection. Setting it up is quite rudimentary and easy as you will have to first switch on and off the bulb five times. The bulb will then light up with rainbow colours signifying that is ready to pair with your smartphone. You then need to open the Mi Home app, find the bulb and pair the two devices. © Xiaomi Please note, the Mi Smart Bulb uses an E27 base which means you need to screw in the bulb into your lamp. If you own an older lamp with a B22 base, you can buy the converter from any local electrical shop. I hooked up the Mi Smart Bulb with one of my floor lamps and my bedside lamp with automated schedule and custom scenes. While watching a movie, I could simply change the mood to a preset from the app that is apt for movie viewing. Similarly, the Mi Smart Bulb can produce up to 16 million colours. You can set any colour you want as it uses 4 Red, 4 Green, 2 Blue and 12 White LEDs and adjust the intensity of the light according to your preference from the Mi Home app. © MensXP Now, about that childhood dream of mine of not wanting to get up to switch on or off my lamp; the Mi Home app gives you the option to schedule the on or off timings. You can even turn it off manually from your phone but it's just easier to have a schedule in place. For example, both my floor lamp and the bedside lamp are scheduled to switch on at 6:30 PM every day. You can also assign a specific colour or scene in the same schedule. There are 9 preset scenes you can choose from but my go-to scene is the “Warm Home” scene. It gives a bright yellow hue that almost matched with other bulbs in the house. The intensity is slightly brighter by default which can be adjusted from the Mi Home app. Similarly, both smart bulbs are also scheduled to go off at midnight, the time everyone in the house is either in bed or is already asleep. If you want to be even lazier, you can even hook the smart bulbs with Google Assistant or Alexa and control it by using the virtual assistants. The Xiaomi Mi Smart Bulb is probably the most affordable and easiest way to make your room smart. Currently, it is the cheapest option to buy and works flawlessly with Xiaomi's Mi Home ecosystem. For Rs 999, it is by far the best option in the market right now and you can keep expanding your setup to make your entire home smart. The only drawback is the E27 base, however, you can always buy the converter to make it work with all your older lamp bases.

  15. Virat Kohli is arguably the best ODI batsman in the world of cricket for the past year or so and has enough silverware to support this argument. 2018 was probably his best year as a professional athlete ever since he was picked as one of the Men in Blue in 2008 and slowly escalated to become the leader of the team late in 2014. Having said that, the Delhi born had made a name for himself as a bit of a hot-head in the early years of his cricketing career and when he was made the captain of such a prestigious and famed team, people began to criticise his overzealous attitude and inability to control his temper. Indian fans of the game thought that Kohli's abusive language on the field brought disgrace to the uniform he wore, the same uniform that all-time great skippers like Sourav Ganguly, Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni had donned so proudly in the past. But according to the skipper, ever since Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and he tied the knot in December 2017, his methods of both playing the game and leading the team have changed for the better. Today we have promised each other to be bound in love for ever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey. pic.twitter.com/aobTUwMNAK — Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) December 11, 2017 “You become extremely responsible in your life and you start putting things into perspective a lot more. It has not only made me a better player and a better captain but also a better human being outside the field,” said Virat Kohli about the changes in him after marriage, in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC). And surely, the 30-year-old has transformed his etiquette as a cricketer and put a lid on his anger, especially under pressure situations and foreign soil in the presence of a hostile audience. Be it bowing in front of a shrewd Australian crowd or asking the cricketing fans to stop booing Steve Smith (for the sandpaper gate in South Africa) and urging them to cheer for him instead for the brilliant cricketer that he is, Kohli has taken a 180 degree turn. Sure, there are times when Kohli lets one or two 'gaalis' out in excitement or frustration, but that's the competitive nature of an elite sportsman that will not (and should not) ever get away from him.
  16. ICC World Cup 2019 started out on a great note, with fans from all corners of the cricketing world tuning in to witness some of the best teams take each other head-on at the greatest platform there is in the sport. Sadly, the infamous English weather took over and literally washed out all the excitement and entertainment right out of the quadrennial tournament. Exactly how bad are the weather conditions in England? Well, in the last four days, we have only seen one match and less than eight overs of another match in total with eight teams getting one point each without putting in zero to negligible effort all due to the rains disrupting some of the greatest matches of the Cricket World Cup, one of which included the clash between the two teams that remain undefeated during the ongoing contest ie, India and Pakistan. Things have become so frustrating that it is almost comical now. Indian bowling all-rounder Kedar Jadhav even pushed out a video on the internet requesting the heavy, non-stop rains to move to Maharashtra and let them play cricket. Haha Kedar Jadhav asking rains from England to shift to Maharashtra ðâ¤ï¸ #INDvNZ #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/ZcdoKcypkT — Saurabh (@Boomrah_) June 13, 2019 In the same comical tone, the fans of the Men in Blue have begun a fun banter with the supporters of Sarfaraz Ahmed's Pakistan cricket team, letting them know that their chances of winning against Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team are extremely slim. They went on to say that the only way for Team Pakistan to save themselves from a horrible and humiliating loss at the hands of the Bleed Blue army, is to pray that the downpour happens once again at Old Trafford, Manchester on Father's Day, this Sunday. This Sunday, the best way for Pakistan to avoid defeat in the match against India is to pray for rain, which is likely to spoil the game. Otherwise, Pakistan's defeat is sure. — Dr. Ashok Dhamija (@ashokdhamija) June 14, 2019 There is possibility that Pakistan will have a happy memory in this world cup. And may gain points against India There is plenty of chance for rain and match being washed out. — Chowkidar Vikram Joshi (@vikyjoshi3) June 14, 2019 Pakistan praying for rain and India showing them way to a na pakistan Train — MUKESH SURANA (@mukeshsurana) June 14, 2019 Pakistan team praying for Rain on Sunday against India because Baap rocks on Father's Day #ShameOnICC #ShameOnICC pic.twitter.com/B6Dkg62RJD — manish Agrawal (@MkAgrawal003) June 14, 2019 Only rain can save pakistan team from team india..#CWC — Puneet Suri (@Puneetsuri1) June 13, 2019 All jokes aside, India versus Pakistan is arguably the biggest match of World Cup 2019, maybe even bigger than the tournament final and if unfortunately, the rain does washout the Father's Day main event, the World Cup might lose out on whatever viewership it is enjoying right now.
  17. If there is one thing that never fails to unite the entire Indian subcontinent, regardless of their many differences, it is the possibility of watching India and Pakistan butt heads on the cricket field. The excitement is buzzing at all times, the anticipation is almost palpable as the arch rivals get ready for the face-off, while the cheering can get bad enough to numb the ears. Literally. © Twitter People from both sides of the border wait with bated breath before every delivery, and after every shot that is played, let alone the times when the third umpire gets involved. There's no denying that both India and Pakistan feel very strongly about any and every cricket match between the two countries. © Twitter However, now with the ICC World Cup kick-starting in just a few hours, and with the Indo-Pak match scheduled for 16th June, the pheromones are only expected to get crazier with each passing day. But, what's crazier still is that so many people are willing to spend a fortune to catch the Indo-Pak clash LIVE in Manchester. © Twitter If you happen to be one of those who are considering (no matter how last minute it may seem now) to fly down to England in the new couple of days to catch the ICC World Cup LIVE, here is the cheapest way to get it done. Two-Way Air Ticket Expenses © Getty Images Managing the travel expenses will be the biggest concern while putting this trip together. The distance as well as the growing demands for tickets due to the World Cup might force you to shell out a good amount of money to reach your destination. The round-trip air fare for Economy tickets from Delhi to London and back, will cost you Rs 55,000 approximately. Two-Way Air Tickets Per Head (Approx.): Rs. 55,000 Lodging Expenses © Getty Images Since the Indo-Pak clash is scheduled to take place in Manchester, ideally one should look for a place that is as close to Old Trafford as possible. However, that means excessive expenditure because of the surging hotel fares. So we suggest opting for the cheapest AirBnB option instead. An AirBnB lodging in someplace like Failsworth will cost you approximately Rs 2,600 per night. Depending on how long you plan to stay after the Indo-Pak match (and how good or bad the result of the match is), you'd better do the required math for your lodging expenses. AirBnB Lodging Per Night (Approx.): Rs 2,600 © Twitter Those two would be the two of your major expenses apart from inter-city commutation, sightseeing and food expenditure which again depends on personal preferences and cannot be generalised. However, given that the value of the pound is touching the sky at Rs. 88 we presume that's also going to add bulk to your trip in a lot of ways. Estimated Total Travel & Lodging Expenses For 2 Night/3 Days (Inclusive of Food,Sightseeing, etc): ≤ Rs. 1.20 Lakhs That ain't cheap, but if it's last minute and you wish to make the most of the trip to London, it can't get cheaper than this.
  18. This story is not going to be about some hard-hitting facts about some sport or a shocking revelation about an athlete's past. No, this story is about the essence of sports and how it transcends every limitation and restriction that bounds a person in his day to day life from achieving greatness. I am talking about a video that went viral on social media and for all the right reasons too. Uploaded on Twitter by @YoungBullBlade, the video shows his uncle standing in front of a basketball ring with a ball in his hands, in the family's backyard with his family members surrounding him with their cameras ready. So what was all the fuss about? Turns out the man was completely blind and it was his first attempt of trying to score a basket. With his nephews cheering him on, getting him hyped up about his first shot, this man looked ready to let that ball fly. “Shoot towards my voice, uncle. Right here. Right in front of you.” @YoungBullBlade said, to help his uncle get a sense of direction of where the ring was and without lingering on too much, the man released the ball which landed on the ring, hit the backboard and eventually sunk into the basket. At this point, the blind uncle found himself smiling ear to ear, surrounded by his family members jumping all around him, brimming with excitement and sheer love. My uncle blind y'all, and made a free throw on his first try pic.twitter.com/aHYSFmm9Ri — ä¹ã¥åáªä¹ ðª (@YoungBullBlade) May 28, 2019 And I know what you are thinking right now. “What's such a big deal with a blind man scoring a basket which is not even a part of competition?” To which I say this: It is not always about competing, or playing only to decide who wins or loses. Sure in the world we live in now, sports, like any other profession, has gotten itself an ugly face of aggression and ruthlessness but every once in a while, somewhere, in some corner of the world, something like this happens that reminds us of the true purpose of sports. Kudos to his family for making him feel so great about himself and allowing us the opportunity to get involved in celebrating his life

  20. The good folks over at Tencent Games have been working hard to bring some of the most popular games to mobile phones. They first started off with PUBG Mobile, which turned out to be a staggering success. The company also worked with Activision to bring 'Call of Duty' to mobile phones. Now, if the new reports are anything to go by, then it looks like Tencent is working with its US unit Riot Games to develop a mobile version of 'League of Legends', the world's most popular game. That's right, it looks like you'll soon be able to play 'League of Legends' on your mobile phones, and it's a huge deal. © Riot Games According to Reuters, multiple sources have confirmed that the mobile version of 'League of Legends' is Tencent's next big project. In fact, the company is said to have been working on the game for over a year now. The sources noted that Riot Games had declined Tencent's proposal to make the mobile version of 'League of Legends' years ago, following which the developer made multiple similar offerings like 'Honour of Kings', 'Arena of Valor', etc. The 'Honour of Kings', in case you don't know, was launched back in 2015 and became the world's highest grossing multiplayer online battle arena game. © Riot Games 'League of Legends' is nearly ten-years-old and is said to be the most popular title with a long history. “'League of Legends' is like the World Cup, whereas 'Honour of Kings' is just the Asia Cup,” one of the sources said. Right now, we're not entirely sure when this mobile version of the game will launch. However, it'll most likely bring in more Asian players, who're known to play more mobile games over desktop or console. Needless to say, it'll also pour in more revenue. 'League of Legends' brought in $1.4 billion in revenue last year, which is just insane. Source: Reuters
  21. With less than 48 hours left for the finale of probably one of the most-watched TV shows in history, 'Game Of Thrones', a lot of fans are waiting with bated breath to see how it all comes to an end, however, the drama revolving around the gloomy dullness throughout this season seems to be like a looming threat for the final episode, and people are genuinely concerned. Multiple theories, many deaths and even a petition to remake the final season has been the mood throughout this month. But it seems like we are not alone in grieving over this disappointment, as the writer of the original book series himself, George RR Martin, also expressed that he wasn't too happy with how the show is ending. Twitter “The series has been… not completely faithful. Otherwise, it would have to run another five seasons. You know, it's complex. I'm a little sad, actually. I wish we had a few more seasons. It can also be… traumatic. Because sometimes their creative vision and your creative vision don't match, and you get the famous creative differences thing — that leads to a lot of conflict. You get totally extraneous things like the studio or the network weighing in, and they have some particular thing that has nothing to do with the story, but relates to 'well, this character has a very high Q Rating so let's give him a lot more stuff to do”, Martin said in an interview. The cast and crew were also a tad bit upset over some characters being killed off. The actor who plays Varys, Conleth Hill, expressed his dismay on how his character met his end. “I took it very personally. I took it as a person, not as an actor or an artist. I understood the reactions of previous actors who had been in the same position a lot more than I did at the time. You can't help feeling that you failed in some way, that you haven't lived up to some expectation that you didn't know about,” he said. HBO Well, love it or hate it, the ending is sealed and we shall witness the action the coming Monday morning.
  22. The next launch of a brand new iPhone is a few months away but a new patent has popped up that may give us a hint about a new feature. Ever since iPhone X was announced, Apple phased out the Touch ID biometric system in favour for an edge-to-edge design. We still got to see the feature on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. However, it was later replaced by FaceID on the iPhone XR. © Apple The iPhone XS and XS Max uses the same FaceID unlock system as its predecessor but a notable feature was missing. It seems like Apple is now looking to bring back TouchID according to the patent. The Cupertino giant is developing a fingerprint sensor that lets users unlock the smartphone by touching anywhere on the screen. The patent was granted to Apple earlier this week and was spotted by Patently Apple. © Patently Apple It would be a cool new feature if seen on the upcoming iPhone 11 and we have something similar to Apple's version developed by Vivo for a concept phone. The patent calls Apple's version as an "acoustic imaging system”. Another weird feature spotted in the same patent was the new sensor's ability to map a user's ear. The system would simply map your ear and unlock the smartphone for seamless call answering and other features. As usual, patents don't really translate to a final product every time and we would not keep our hopes high until its fully revealed or made official by Apple. We sincerely hope this feature does come to the iPhone 11 as many users still prefer to unlock smartphones with a fingerprint or at least want the option. Source: Patently Apple
  23. It's almost time for one of the biggest launches of the year and there's now a new leak which has nothing to do with the phone. Instead, we get to see everything that will be launching alongside the new OnePlus smartphones. The leaked images look more like the reviewer's box which includes everything from the smartphone to the accessories. © Twitter_Ishan Agarwal The leaked image gives us a glimpse of everything else OnePlus is planning to launch. At first glance, you see the OnePlus Wireless Bullets 2 which is rumoured to be a triple-driver Bluetooth earphone similar to what 1MORE makes. Apart from the wireless OnePlus bullets, the Chinese company is also looking to launch a Warp Charge 30 car charger. © Twitter_Linus Tech Tips The OnePlus 7 Pro also reveals that the in-car charger will be based on the Warp Charge 30 charger that was introduced with the McLaren edition of the OnePlus 6T. This also kind of confirms that the wall charger will be the same as the McLaren edition as well. © Twitter_Ishan Agarwal The leak of the images came from an accidental tweet by Linus Tech Tips and more were shared by Ishan Agarwal on Twitter. The images shared by Mr Agarwal show more details about the packaging; however, the actual device has not been pictured yet. The packaging has the 'Go Beyond Speed' tagline we've seen in previous rumours. However, the accessories in the box are what impressed us the most and we can't wait to check them out ourselves.
  24. A couple of weeks back, I attended one of India's biggest eSports event called ESL One. It was an amazing experience and I wrote all about it here. The ESL One event was backed by Intel, and I got to chat with a few Intel executives who were present at the event. At the event, I met Frank Soqui, VP & GM of Intel gaming, Lee Machen, GM of gaming sales at Intel, and Prakash Mallya, VP & MD, sales and marketing group Intel India. We had a great time discussing gaming, hardware, OEMs and more. © MensXP/ Karthik Iyer One of the questions that popped up during our conversation was about the rise of cloud gaming services like Google Stadia in the market. Well, for those of you who don't know, cloud gaming services are just like your streaming services, but for games. These cloud game streaming services will essentially let you play any game on any compatible device, as long as you have a strong internet connection. Yes, it's a phenomenal idea, but the rise of these cloud game streaming services will only lead to the downfall of hardware makers like Intel. I mean, think about it. Who'd be interested in buying expensive chipsets and build a gaming rig, when one can simply stream the games over the internet without worrying about system requirements? © Reuters Well, to my surprise, Frank Soqui seemed pretty optimistic about the arrival of cloud gaming. According to him, cloud gaming is going to introduce a lot of people to gaming, which means more potential customers for Intel. “After getting a taste of cloud gaming, more people are going to want to upgrade their rig and step up their gaming experience at some point in the future”, said Frank. Further adding to this topic, Frank also noted that computers are not meant for just gaming, and there are a ton of other things you could on a PC like content creation, for instance. “It's still a multiple purpose device. It doesn't just play games. It's just that it can also play games really well among other things”, said Frank. © MensXP/ Karthik Iyer And then, there's the whole argument about enthusiast gamers not wanting to compromise on the gaming experience. I am pretty sure there are a lot of gamers who would be interested in getting the best experience, and they might not compromise by relying on cloud gaming solutions. So, is cloud gaming going to affect hardware makers like Intel or is it going to be a smooth sail like Frank says it will be? Well, I think it's too early gauge the success and adoption of cloud gaming. I am sure we'll have a lot more to discuss once these services reach at least the major markets.
  25. The atmosphere in the country is pretty charged at the moment, courtesy the ongoing 2019 General Elections, which have been unravelling in phases all across India. Elections in India happen to be a rather sensitive issue, even though most people would want you to believe otherwise. © Getty Images It has a very interesting way of segregating people on the basis of favourite (which are only a handful) politicians, favoured political ideologies, “promises” and what not. Let alone the verbal crusades that are carried out on national television every night, elections have the power of creating a divide on dinner tables, and provoking long lost relatives to resurface of the family WhatsApp group with all guns blazing. © Getty Images And that is not all. It will not even spare your friends, who on most other situations stick to you like that college backlog which simply wouldn't give way. Many friendships have come in the line of fire when it comes to sticking to our guns and proving our loyalty towards a certain political party we approve of, much against the better(or rather differing) suggestion of our dear buddies. © Getty Images Recently, a photo of a few friends travelling in a car, bearing different party flags went viral on social media. The photograph shows a bunch of youngsters sitting together in the car and the boot of a car, who hit the roads bearing party flags of Congress, CPI(M) and the BJP with broad smiles on their faces. The picture was widely shared across all social media platforms because of a simple message it sent out to every onlooker. That, regardless of the mini, semi-aggressive political discussions we end up indulging in every now and then, there is still a bigger scope of peacefully existence with people and friends with conflicting political inclinations. © Getty Images It is proof that it is simply not worth it to allow political differences to come in the way of valuable friendships. Let us celebrate the democracy that we live in by respecting one another's political choices, whether we agree with them or not. Let's have more of those healthy (and much-needed) political arguments with each other that always help us gain insights, and thereby make more aware decisions. © Reuters But most importantly, let us all head out to vote together and do our heart's bidding anyway. The right to vote is one of our biggest means of getting heard by those who shall eventually hold positions of power by becoming our representatives. What we do that day holds the power to decide the fate of not only the country but our personal futures too. © Reuters But regardless of the political ideologies we choose to align with, or the differences we fight on with our buddies, let us cherish those friendships and keep politics and elections from getting in the way of all the good times gone by, and yet to come. And those young men have just showed us how that is supposed to be done, and virally so. What do you guys say?
