Losing a loved one is the most painful thing I can think of, and unfortunately, all of us have to go through it at some point in our lives. But, no one can understand the extremities of that loss like the people who work in the Defence, and their families do. Yesterday, the last rites of Squadron leader Siddharth Vashisht, who died in a Mi-17 chopper crash in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district, were performed with full military honours in Chandigarh. His family, including his wife Squadron Leader Aarti Singh and other fellow officers, were present to bid farewell and mourn the loss. His wife stood in full uniform as his father lit the funeral pyre. The Air Force personnel present gave a gun salute in the presence of officials from the IAF, the civil administration and all the people who turned up to pay their last respects. People couldn't help but salute Squadron Leader Aarti Singh's bravery at this difficult time while mourning for him. Her head was held high, as she clutched the tricolour to her chest, and the internet hailed her stoic spirit. The brave men, who guard our country, lose sleep so that we can sleep in peace and also sacrifice their lives for the love of the nation, deserve more than just our respect. No amount of love or words that one pours to thank our soldiers can suffice the work they do for this country. However, it's not just them who make this sacrifice. One cannot even imagine the strength their family members show in enduring the risk of sending their bravehearts to the border. It is not easy being a wife of an army officer but it is an honour for sure and Gauri Mahadik is one such hero who is proving to the world that she is a woman of steel. She is the wife of Major Prasad Mahadik, who was martyred in 2017 at the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. While life definitely must have stopped for a while for this brave woman, it definitely didn't deter her from facing it with all the strength she had. Gauri is now all set to join the army herself as a tribute to her brave husband. Gauri will be inducted as a lieutenant in the army once she completes her training in Chennai. Gauri cleared the service selection board (SSB) exams and qualified for the rank by actually topping the exam with great score. Talking about some kind of serendipity and a beautiful twist of destiny, Gauri was allotted the same chest number (28) which was also allotted to her husband when he was undergoing his training. She is a qualified lawyer who quit her job to pursue this dream in memory of her husband. It is stories like these which fill your heart with strength and courage and make you believe that every storm is followed by a rainbow. -

Every man who is a part of the armed forces and serves the country has a story behind his journey. The story depends on his walk of life and how he perceives it, to fulfil his duties. Compassion is an ardent part of any army-man's life, without which protecting one's nation is absolutely redundant. An altogether heroic and compassionate stance was also taken by Major Shashidharan Nair before he breathed his last at the LoC last week and we're as gutted as we're proud about his story, to keep up all his responsibilities well intact. (c)Times Of India Major Nair was a native of Khadakwasala and studied from Fergusson college in Pune. He was a kind and compassionate soul, full of love and armoured responsibility and he did his best to fulfil the ones he wore proudly on his shoulder. One of them was obviously love and he met the love of his life, Trupti in Pune through some mutual friends. Their friendship nurtured into love and they soon got married to fulfil their dreams together. Trupti was a working woman with a masters in computer application and Nair boasted of being a 'captain' and they started living their life like they had planned to. But it wasn't easy for them. It never really is, is it? (c)Twitter Just a few months into them being engaged, Trupti was diagnosed with multiple arteriosclerosis. Arteriosclerosis is the hardening and narrowing of arteries which can lead to heart conditions and strokes and that's exactly what happened with Trupti. Everyone around Nair was against him getting married to someone suffering from a disease like that, but love made Nair stick to his guns and he finally married Trupti in 2012. But their happy married bliss was short-lived, when a few months into their marriage, Trupti suffered a stroke, which paralysed her lower body completely. (c)Twitter But that never deterred their spirit to love each other unconditionally and stand by each other through thick and thin. especially for Nair, who was a constant pillar to her weaknesses--both physical and emotional at the time. Their love story stands out as a well known romance in the army and everyone remembers their love and the fondness they had for each other, very well. They would often attend parties together, with Major Nair wheeling Trupti or carrying her in his arms, throughout, with valour. (c)Twitter Unfortunately, like I said it wasn't easy for them and their love was short-lived. Before joining back on duty on January 2nd, Major Nair took leave to spend a month with his wife. He went back to the LoC where he was posted in Nowshera, Jammu & Kashmir. Trupti being a concerned wife was a little sceptical about his posting there, but he like any ardent and caring husband promised to be back home soon. And he did live up to his promise. But not like how we'd expect him to. (c)Twitter Turns out, the promise he made to his motherland overpowered the one he made to his wife when he laid down his life for the nation, while on patrol on the LoC. He was the victim of coming in between an IED (improvised explosive device) laid down by terrorists there, and he breathed his last, at that very moment, with another Indian army soldier. (c)Twitter His body arrived at the National War Memorial in Pune, wrapped in the tricolour and Trupti sat there, quietly, bidding her pillar of strength a final goodbye. (c)Twitter His demise broke many hearts. His family and friends were left devastated but that's the thing about the men in the forces. Somewhere deep down you have to know that one day they may never come back and finally make peace with that fact. I believe Trupti did the same. Although, she counted on him to return and be with her and share a happy life but somewhere inside her heart she knew he may never return and she would have to carry on with life without him. That's the power of love. Withstanding every challenge that may come your way and step up and be invincible together, for as long as two people can and we definitely found that invincibility in Major Nair and Trupti. -

After the Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai's recommendation of a two-ODI ban, the duo was charged with misconduct and indiscipline before being suspended from all forms of cricket pending a detailed inquiry into the controversy. Neeru got married to the late rifleman Ravinder in 2013 and in 2015, he died while serving his regiment. Not one to break down in such difficult circumstances, Neeru not only took care of her two-year-old daughter but also decided to join the Indian Army. Sure, she'll find it romantic and stuff at the time, but just imagine breaking up and then being married to someone else, who spots that very romantic gesture you did for some other woman. What will she do? Beat you up, of course! That's exactly what a newly-married couple in Tamil Nadu just went through. What probably was supposed to be their honeymoon period turned into a literal nightmare for the husband, after his wife beat him up for having an ex's name tattooed. The 22-year-old wife was waiting at a bus stop with her 20-year-old husband when she noticed some other girl's name on his arm. (I mean, arms are a pretty visible area, she should've seen it before, but never mind, let's continue.) Okay, yes, what he did was stupid, but the wife's next step was not at all cool. Yes, you can be angry but beating up someone is never the answer, violence against anyone should be discouraged. But, she was so enraged that she ended up brutally beating him, that too in public. After a point, the husband even tried to run for his life and even feigned a heart attack, but nothing stopped her and her fists of rage. Some onlookers then took the couple to the police station, after first recording the incident, of course. A police officer revealed to TOI that this was the woman's second marriage. “After separating from her first husband, she and her child were staying with her parents. میاں بیوی میں کسی نکتے پر لڑائی ہو جایا کرتی ہے۔ لڑائی کا مطلب یہ نہیں کہ دونوں میں سے کسی ایک نے غلط انسان سے تعلق جوڑ لیا ہے یا یہ رشتہ اب مزید نہیں چل سکتا۔ طویل المدت اور انتہائی قریبی تعلقات میں تنازعات کا پیدا ہونا حیرت کی بات نہیں ہوتی۔ تاہم لڑائی کی نوعیت اور شدت سے اندازہ لگایا جا سکتا ہے کہ ازدواجی تعلق کس قدراطمینان بخش ہے۔ زیادہ تر جوڑے یہی کوشش کرتے ہیں کہ کم سے کم تکرار ہو، چھوٹی چھوٹی باتوں پر جھگڑا نہ ہو اور شامیں سہانی گزریں۔ لیکن پھر آخر لڑائیاں ہوتی کیوں ہیں؟ اس حساس سوال پر بلجیم میں حال ہی میں دو تحقیقات ہوئی ہیں۔ ان کے نتائج جواب تلاش کرنے میں مدد فراہم کرتے ہیں۔ ان میں سے ایک تحقیق کا محور وہ ضروریات تھیں جو پوری نہ ہونے سے میاں بیوی کے درمیان تنازعات جنم لیتے ہیں۔ یہ کام گائل وانہی اور ان کے ساتھیوں نے کیا۔ محققین کو معلوم ہوا کہ مذکورہ انسانی تعلق میں جب مندرجہ ذیل ضروریات پوری نہیں ہوتیں تو جوڑے زیادہ لڑتے ہیں۔ وابستگی: زندگی میں جن افراد کو اہم گردانا جاتا ہے ان سے مضبوط تعلق ایک ضرورت ہوتا ہے۔ کسی سے اظہارِ وابستگی (اٹیچمنٹ) کیسے کرنا ہے، یہ کافی حد تک ہم بچپن میں سیکھ لیتے ہیں۔ کسی سے مناسب انداز میں وابستگی کو ظاہر کرنا مضبوط اور طویل المدت تعلق قائم کرنے میں انتہائی معاون ہوتا ہے۔ جس تعلق میں وابستگی کا عنصر شامل ہو وہ زیادہ تسلی بخش، قریبی اور گہرا ہوتا ہے اور اس کے خاتمے کا امکان بھی کم ہوتا ہے۔ قبولیت: جب یہ احساس ہوتا ہے کہ دوسرے فرد میں قبولیت کا جذبہ موجود ہے تو تعلقات اچھے ہونے لگتے ہیں۔ قبولیت کا مطلب دوسرے کی سب باتوں کو مان لینا نہیں۔ ہم کسی فرد کے کچھ فیصلوں یا اس کے کسی انتخاب سے اختلاف کر سکتے ہیں، لیکن ساتھ ہی ہم اس کا بھرم رکھتے ہیں اور بیشتر کو تسلیم کر لیتے ہیں۔ ازدواجی زندگی میں قبولیت بہت اہم ہوتی ہے۔ یعنی بہت سی صورتوں میں اپنے جیون ساتھی سے اختلاف کے باوجود اس کی بات کو تسلیم کرنا ہوتا ہے۔ توجہ: محض اختلاف کو قبول کرنا کافی نہیں ہوتا، جیون ساتھی یہ بھی چاہتا ہے کہ دوسرا اسے پسند کرے۔ جیون ساتھی رشتے کی حدت کو پانا چاہتا ہے۔ صرف یہ کہنے سے بات نہیں بنتی کہ میں تمہاری بیشتر خامیوں کو قبول کرتا ہوں۔ خود مختاری: انسان کی ایک اہم ضرورت اپنے اعمال کے فیصلے خود کرنے کا اختیار ہے۔ ہم چاہتے ہیں کہ جو ہم کرنا چاہتے ہیں وہ کر سکیں۔ مذکورہ تحقیق سے معلوم ہوا ہے کہ سب سے زیادہ عدم اطمینان ان جوڑوں میں پایا جاتا ہے جن میں دونوں میں سے کوئی ایک دوسرے کو کنٹرول کرنے کی کوشش کرتا ہے اور اس کی خودمختاری کو کم کرتا ہے۔ قابلیت: یہ احساس ہونا چاہیے کہ ہم جو کچھ کرتے ہیں وہ اچھی طرح کرتے ہیں۔ اس طرح ہم خود کو قابل سمجھتے ہیں۔ لیکن اگر میاں بیوی میں سے کوئی ایک کسی شعبے میں مسابقت میں پیچھے ہو تو یہ تعلق میں عدم توازن اور بالآخر کشیدگی کی وجہ بنتا ہے۔ اگر شریک حیات میں سے کوئی دوسرے کو نالائق سمجھتا ہے تو تعلقات میں بگاڑ آ سکتا ہے۔ اگر جوڑوں میں یہ مندرجہ بالا ضروریات پوری نہ ہوں تو منفی احساسات جنم لیتے ہیں۔ اس سے تنازعات کو بڑھاوا ملتا ہے۔ مثال کے طور پر کسی پر سخت تنقید کرنے یا رد کرنے سے دوسرے کو لگتا ہے کہ اسے قبول نہیں کیا جا رہا۔ اس سے شرمندگی اور اداسی پیدا ہو سکتی ہے۔ ان احساسات کا اظہار زیادہ تر براہ راست نہیں ہوتا اور پھر یہ غصے کی شکل اختیار کر لیتے ہیں۔ تب اس سے منفی گفتگو شروع ہو جاتی ہے جس سے تنازع بڑھ جاتا ہے۔ اب سوال یہ ہے کہ شریک حیات کی ان ضروریات کو کیسے پورا کیا جائے۔ اس کی ابتدا یوں کی جا سکتی ہے کہ شریک حیات ہی سے پوچھ لیا جائے۔ ہو سکتا ہے اس نے اس بارے میں سوچا نہ ہو لیکن کم ازکم اسے یہ پیغا م ضرور ملے گا کہ اس کے بارے میں فکر کی جارہی ہے۔ اپنی ضروریات پر بھی غور کریں اور اس بات پر کہ تعلق میں کون سا عنصر غائب ہے۔ پھر ان پر مثبت انداز میں باہمی گفتگو کریں۔
