  1. A prolific wicket-keeper, greatest finisher and an astute leader, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will go down in history as one of the greatest contributors to Indian cricket. The calm and composed cricketer achieved everything there is in international cricket, including the rare feat of winning three major ICC tournaments. Today, the Jharkhand cricketer may no longer be in the fray for Team India selection, but there is no dip in his popularity or fame. He was expected to feature in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) season, widely tipped as his swansong, but the indefinite suspension of the thirteenth edition has left the cricket fans fearing the worst. View this post on Instagram2020 with this man â¤ï¸ !A post shared by (@sakshisingh_r) While 'Captain Cool' might have remained away from the field and continues to be missed by fans in these times, another Dhoni, his wife Sakshi, is adequately making up for her husband's absence. With the cricket fans desperately missing MSD on the field and on social media, Sakshi is keeping them occupied with her mesmerising poems. Married to one of the most popular cricketers on the planet, Sakshi has carved her own niche on the back of her creative writing. The 31-year-old, over the years, has developed a special liking towards penning down short poems which have struck a chord with fans. From sharing the pain of Pulwama attack victims to endorsing the frustration of many amid the COVID-19 outbreak, here's a look at 5 mesmerising poems by Sakshi Dhoni in times of crisis: 1. 'How Many More' View this post on InstagramMy thoughts! #nomore ðð»A post shared by (@sakshisingh_r) In what proved to be the deadliest terror attack on India's state security personnel in Kashmir since 1989, 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel of the 76th Battalion were killed and many were left injured, after a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into one of the buses carrying the soldiers at Lethpora (near Awantipora) in the Pulwama district. The dastardly terrorist attack, carried out by the Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, sent ripples across the country, sending over a billion citizens into a state of mourning. State funerals were organised to put the slain CRPF soldiers to rest as Indian mourned their dead. Highlighting the mood of the country, Sakshi paid a touching tribute to the martyrs by penning down a beautiful poem on Instagram. Titled 'How Many More', the heartfelt poem talks about the plight of soldiers and the never-ending grief endured by their family members following their death. 2. 'The Silence' View this post on InstagramSilence !A post shared by (@sakshisingh_r) For someone who took Team India to new heights in international cricket, Dhoni has not featured in the iconic 'blue' jersey since the semifinal loss against New Zealand in 2019 World Cup. Sadly, he doesn't seem to be in the fray for selection in the national team either. This year's IPL season was looked upon as his return to the field, but even that seems impossible now. Owing to his long hiatus from cricket, former greats, pundits and fans have all been speculating Dhoni's future, fearing a sad end of the career of one of the Indian cricket's greatest hero. While everyone was busy giving their respective opinions, Dhoni, remaining calm and composed, didn't indulge the gossip-mongers. But, unlike her husband, Sakshi, in her own creative way, came to the aid of her husband and wrote a beautiful poem to shut the naysayers. Titled 'The Silence', the poem talks about the importance of being quiet and takes a subtle dig at Dhoni's critics. "Shallow waters make noise, deep ones remain calm in silence," the verse pretty much sums it up. 3. 'The Blue Sky Above' View this post on InstagramThe Blue Sky above !A post shared by (@sakshisingh_r) On 30th January, India reported its first case of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), putting in motion the biggest challenge faced by the central government in ages. On 22nd March, the Indian government ordered a nationwide lockdown and, since then, with little relaxations, the citizens of the country continue to remain indoors as a preventive measure. With travel restrictions, curfews and a subsequent lockdown, the environment has come out as the biggest winner. The lack of vehicles on the road has improved air quality. The absence of human beings from the streets has also been a blessing to birds and animals. It's as if the COVID-19 lockdown has helped everyone, but human beings. Taking note of the flourishing world around, Sakshi penned a beautiful poem highlighting the mood of the environment. She wrote how the clear skies must be surprised and, thereon, elated to see the changes below on earth. A beautiful thought, bringing a sense of satisfaction in the ongoing times of great crisis. 4. 'Lockdown Ki Double Roti' View this post on Instagram#troublerotiA post shared by (@sakshisingh_r) The Coronavirus lockdown has disrupted normalcy as we know it. Confined to their respective homes, people are literally running out of options to kill all the idle time at hand, they once craved for before the global epidemic. While some are embracing the opportunity to get closer to their inner self, others are counting the days for the lockdown to get over. The situation for homemakers, who were not exposed to the idea of entertaining their family members 24 hours a day, isn't great either. Catering to the whims and fancies of their family members, they currently find themselves in no man's land as the food preferences of the ones around remain divided. Highlighting the plight of such individuals, Sakshi wrote a hilarious poem titled 'Lockdown Ki Double Roti'. Written in Hindi, with a witty rhyme scheme, Sakshi shared her own troubles while catering to the needs of daughter Ziva and hubby MSD. 5. 'Caged' View this post on InstagramArenât we all caged !!A post shared by (@sakshisingh_r) For as long as we can remember, mankind has been the dominant species on this planet and, sadly, also the worst threat to it. The humans have domesticated animals, locked them up and killed them for sport. We have polluted rivers, filled the beautiful blue skies with smoke from our factories and robbed mother earth of the essentials she once provided. Free will is what separates us from the animals, and how the tables have turned. Restricted to their respective homes, human beings have been given a glimpse of what it feels to be at the receiving end. While we are caged, animals, birds and even the environment are all thriving. Sakshi captures all those things beautifully in her poem titled 'Caged'. View the full article

  4. We didn't know we needed any weekly dose of watching random celebrities and people fighting over nothing, until Bigg Boss came into our lives. We didn't even know there were people who religiously watched it. But it looks like there were some who were "asking for it, dying for it..." and that's why we are here talking about the winner of the 13th season of Salman Khan's Bigg Boss, which is by far one of the most controversial victories of all time. After five months of unlimited, pointless drama and controversy, Bigg Boss 13, or how the loyal fans like to call it one of the most masaledar reality shows in the history of Indian television, has finally come to an end last night with Sidharth Shukla taking home the trophy. View this post on InstagramA well deserved picture with the one who gave him birth and the other who has taught him the basics of life..these pictures summarise those multiple emotions aunty, Di and Sidharth felt while missing each other in those 5 long months! Whoa! Sidharth won all that for fighting with Asim, dealing with Shehnaaz's 'sachha pyaar' and showing off his angry side? After winning the trophy, Sidharth shared a video on Instagram thanking his fans for the victory with a special message. He expressed his gratitude to people for supporting him. 6. It is a well-acknowledged fact that Brad Pitt is the frontrunner this award season, courtesy his role as Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Timeâ¦in Hollywood. This marks Brad's seventh Oscar nomination. And while recently he won the Best Picture for 12 Years Of Slave, he's never actually won an individual acting Oscar. It's strange he wasn't even nominated for iconic roles in films like Fight Club or Se7en! One can draw parallels to Leonardo DiCaprioâs Oscarless-phase which was filled with memes on the internet before his triumphant win for The Revenant in 2016. It is funny how films like The Curious Case Of The Benjamin Button too weren't enough to get him an Academy nod. So here's a list of Pitt's nominations over the years that could've won him an Oscar but didn't and also the only time he won an Oscar for the team effort. Nomination 1: Best Supporting Actor (1996), 12 MonkeysBrad Pitt scored his very first nomination for 12 Monkeys for playing Jeffrey Goines in Terry Gilliamâs sci-fi thriller. At the time he was already popular and a household name, courtesy iconic films like Se7en, Legends of the Fall and lastly Thelma and Louise. He lost the award to Kevin Spacey, who worked on The Usual Suspects that year. © Getty Images Nomination 2: Best Actor (2009), The Curious Case of Benjamin ButtonThe second nomination for Pitt came after a considerable time gap. Benjamin Button (an Oscar nomination after a 13-year gap for Pitt), his character ages in reverse, from a shrivelled, seemingly aged baby to an adorable infant by the end of the film as he ages in reverse. He lost to Sean Penn, who starred in Milk that year. © Getty Images Nominations 3 and 4: Best Actor and Best Picture (2012), MoneyballBrad Pitt's next nomination at the Oscars was in the film, Moneyball (as Oakland Aâs manager Billy Beane) based on the book by Michael Lewis. Unfortunately, he lost to Jean Dujardin for The Artist and the same film took Best Picture as well. © Getty Images Nomination 5: Best Picture (2014), 12 Years a SlaveFinally, 2014 was a lucky year for Brad. He was able to hold his very own (yet shared) gold statuette for 12 Years a Slave (a period drama in which he has only a small part as a Canadian laborer who is anti-slavery), a film he also produced, had won Best Picture that year. © Getty Images Nomination 6: Best Picture (2016), The Big ShortIn The Big Short, Brad Pitt plays the character of Ben Rickert, a retired securities trader, and a sage crash predictor. The film is a deep dive into the 2008 housing bubble that led to the terrible global recession the same year. Unfortunately, he couldn't win the Acadamy Award a 6th time in a row despite his brilliant performance in the film. The film lost to Spotlight that year. © Getty Images Nomination 7: Best Supporting Actor (2020), Once Upon a Time...in HollywoodAt 56, Brad Pitt may have given his best performance yet in the film, Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood. This role deserves an Oscar, but he's also up against a list of talented and deserving actors likeâTom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. While we're rooting for Pitt and hope he finally makes it to the other side and he probably will, at the end of the day it's great to see how the statuette acknowledgment has never deterred his impeccable performances over the years. 7. Badminton, shooting, long jump and hockey - this yearâs Khelo India Youth Games, 2020 brought an immense level of young sporting talent to Guwahati, where throughout January, dozens competed in 20-odd sports, although within one particular competition, a rather unique young girl rose to the top of her game. Three medals - two silver, one bronze hang around the neck of Upasha Talukdar, just twelve years old. âLook at the shape of my arm. See how my feet bend,â she said to The Indian Express, gracefully pointing towards her curved elbow, at her home in Guwahati. Upasha is a rhythmic gymnast - a form of gymnastics that combines dance, callisthenics and acrobatics in a stunning display, usually performed with a prop such as a ball, ribbon, rope or hoop. Upashaâs talent is near-natural. Sheâs been called the ârubber band girlâ at school - able to perform feats such as scratch her ear with a backwards-bent toe - having picked up the art at the age of eight. Eventually, after having been trained in artistic gymnastics for a few years, she hit a major hurdle in her journey as a gymnast - one that could have stopped a lesser person. After being told that she had the aptitude for rhythmic gymnastics from her coaches, Upashaâs family struggled to find a viable coach to train her in Assam - even the entire Northeast. © Khelo India Luckily, her father, Nikunja Talukdar, wasnât willing to give up. âFor months, she would just while away hours sitting in the corner of the gymnasium waiting for her turn,â he said. It was then that Talkudar, a pharmacy owner by profession, got the bright idea to turn to the internet. Together, the father-daughter duo would seek out videos exhibiting the work of the top gymnasts in the world, and after studying their technique, Upasha would set off to the gymnasium to learn through mimicking their moves. Meanwhile, Nikunja would reach out to any gymnasts he found on the internet, hunting for a suitable coach for his daughter. âThe moment I saw someone was a gymnast, I would send a friend request,â he says, âI told them that I had a daughter and I needed someone to guide her.â Over time, the pair developed relationships with gymnasts around the world - ranging from France, Russia, Australia, Uzbekistan, and Georgia. Russia, and the east-bloc in particular, has the greatest legacy in rhythmic gymnastics - the Olympic medal tally is led by USSR/Russia with 37 medals, followed by neighbour Romania with 22. The USA is at a distant third place with just 10. It was from there that Upasha finally found her guide - 16-year-old rhythmic gymnast Olesya, who decided to train Upasha through Skype. âWe didnât understand Russian, they did not understand English!â explains Upasha, âWith the help of Google Translate and a very shaky internet connection, we managed.â By the end of it, Upasha managed to prepare her first routine which led her to participate in a number of national-level junior competitions including the CBSE National Gymnastics (Haryana, 2017), Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education games (2018) and the sub-junior games organised by the Gymnastic Federation of India (2018). She won medals in all. Finally, after several hurdles in finding practice areas and perfecting her technique, Upasha was able to shine on the national circuit at the Khelo India Youth Games - an even greater achievement considering that she competed and won medals in the under-17 competition, despite being just 12 years old. On the horizon are dreams of Olympic standards, of course. In the meantime, however, Upasha wishes for better practice conditions so she can improve and compete at greater levels. âMany people think rhythmic gymnastics is just a âdanceâ, but it is actually so much more,â she says. âYou need strength, you need balance, you need to be flawless - you have to look like you are almost doing magic.â Here is hoping Upasha finds the help she deserves from the Sports Ministry and can fulfil her dream of making it to the Olympics. 8. Decisions donât get the kind of importance they should. The entire prospect has gained such a flavour of triviality that you and I have come to take this âpowerâ vested upon us for granted. There is power in decisions to change lives, alter realities and make one's wildest dreams come to life. All it took for four-time CrossFit Games champ Vedharth Thappa, was such a decision that helped him carve out his own path and go places. Vedharth is currently the only Indian to be representing the country at the 2020 CrossFit Games in the US, and has won the title of fittest 'CrossFit man in India' for the past three years consecutively. The Backstory View this post on InstagramThe strongest warriors have the the most scars. @tflindia #Feedyourfocus #slowissmoothsmoothisfast #fitness #headdowneyesforward #onedayatatime #FaithA post shared by (@vedharththappaofficial) Always a sports lover, Vedharth was a state-level volleyball and cricket player as a school student. However, it was during his engineering days that he stumbled upon CrossFit which allowed him to stay fit within a tight academic schedule. His experience with CrossFit had such a deep impact on him, that Vedharth decided to switch to fitness full-time. The Big Decision It was his new-found love for CrossFit that pushed Vedharth to take the big leap of deciding to give up his family business in favour of making it big in the fitness industry and focus on the CrossFit Games. View this post on InstagramA zillion thoughts in my head right now. Iâm sorry to let everyone down. That wasnât me. That did not define all the hard work put in. Just want to thank everyone for the love and wishes. I am going to take this as a learning .Lots of love. #FaithA post shared by (@vedharththappaofficial) To prove his loyalty to fitness and as a measure to give back to the industry, Vedharth went on to open a gym at the tender age of 21 and there has been no looking back for him since then. Talking about these life-altering decisions Vedharth told MensXP, âAt 21 when I opened my first gym and was certainly unaware of business ethics and what it takes to have a successful business. I devoted all my time and efforts towards building what I believed in and worked tirelessly towards achieving it.â The Journey So Far When it comes to staying fit, Vedharth says that his regular fitness routine involves âtwo sessions a day for about 90-120 minutes each, five times a week. Like they say, fitness is a combination of exercise and proper nutrition, hence I equally dial into my food and try not to eat things that do not help me reach my goals.â View this post on InstagramOld jungle saying :-Find what youâd die for and live for it. #Lifestyle #living #FearandgreedA post shared by (@vedharththappaofficial) Additionally, Vedharth also adds that mental health is of utmost importance to him. He tries to stay positive and practices gratitude for all the opportunities that have come his way and whatever he has achieved so far. And when the days donât look as sunny, Vedharth surrounds himself âwith positivity which keeps me aligned towards my goals.â Champion In The Making Vedharth, who has been named the âNational Championâ of 2019 is all set to represent India at the CrossFit Games 2020 to be held in Wisconsin, US. Before the competition kickstarts in February, Vedharthâs goal is âto be the best version of myself. I want to prepare with all my heart and give it my all. What happens there is destiny, hence, for now, I believe in controlling things I can control and that is my training and my approach leading to the games.â View this post on InstagramI started CrossFit about 8 years back never with an intention to get competitive.I was partying ,Living life to the fullest and thoroughly enjoyed working out.For a fact I was never training but just working out.I never understood the difference between training and working out without purpose. Today I am one week out from taking part in my sixth CrossFit open..Still get butterflyâs in my tummy like itâs my first one. Never in my wildest dreams I would have imagined to participate at the crossfit games. Sometimes I think how life takes a full circle and takes you to places physically and mentally that you never see coming. Irrespective of the outcome.. itâs going to be fun just like every year..Full faith and all heart. This one is for the boys:) #letsrollA post shared by (@vedharththappaofficial) And for all those who wish to follow in his footsteps and represent India on international platforms, Vedharth says, âHave faith and chase your dream with all your heart and passion. It may take time, but nothing worth having comes easy. Time and hard work beat everything. So have patience, put in all the work and your time shall come because if I can do it trust me anyone can.â We wish him the best for this season, and hereâs hoping he makes it to the top this year. 9. 2434.52 metres, that is how much Virat Kohli ran between the wickets during the three-match ODI series against the visiting Australian team. The first match in Mumbai turned out to be an unlikely outing for the Indian skipper, who gave away his wicket to Adam Zampa in a caught and bowled, early in his innings. While smashing a solitary six, the batsman could only manage to put up 16 runs in Indiaâs below average total of 255. Even then, 10 of his runs came from singles. Kohli falls to Zampa once again...for the 4th time in the ODIs. No spinner has dismissed Kohli more than 4 times in the ODIs. The best ball ever bowled to Kohli in the ODIs is also from a leggie. When Adil Rashid cleaned up Kohli. #INDvAUS â slowyorker (@slowyorker1) January 14, 2020 The other two matches were a completely different story altogether. In the second ODI in Rajkot, 78 runs came off Kohliâs bat in 76 deliveries as he helped opener Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul build a mammoth total of 340 after being asked to bat first by Aaron Finch. Out of Kohliâs 78-run stint, he scored 54 of them by taking singles and changing strikes with his partner. Yesterday Shikhar Dhawan Was Disappointed He Missed His 100. But Virat Kohli Was Even More Disappointed.! That's Virat Kohli For You Perfect Team Man.!#ViratKohli #KingKohli #INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/2U8icUILA3 â Tamil Viratians ð¥ (@Tamil_Viratians) January 18, 2020 And in the third ODI in Bengaluru, 57 runs of his 89-run innings came the same way as well. Even though the top-order batsman is known for a variety of qualities such as his textbook cover drive and the well-documented capacity to chase big total, Kohliâs ability to take singles often goes unnoticed. The biggest, most recent example comes from Indiaâs win over the Aussies at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday when the Men in Blue were to chase down 286 runs in 50 overs. Rohit Sharma was having his typical high-scoring game amidst which Kohli stepped onto the pitch after KL Rahul got trapped with an Ashton Agar LBW. Understanding that his deputy-in-chief was in the zone, Kohli tried to give Sharma more and more opportunities to reduce the gap as much as he could. The duo maintained a run-rate closer to what was required throughout the middle overs and prevented any massive gaps in scoring which would have returned later to haunt them. Best thing about kohli is no ego. He is happy to be silent when Rohit is playing. He is just taking singles and hitting odd boundaries. Making this partnership as big as it can. #INDvsAUS â Nishant Singh Parihar (@nsp2607) January 19, 2020 Once the opener gave up his wicket on a Zampa leggie after a masterful 119-run knock, the skip decided to take it upon himself to carry his team all the way to victory. With Shreyas Iyer on the other end, Kohli pushed for quick singles amidst a boundary every now and then. The strategy was simple. Choose the bowlers youâd like to score against and those you would just want to end their spells. For Kohli, it was Zampa, who had dismissed him five times in the last eight innings. Even then, Kohli managed to sneak four or five runs during his overs as well. It was because of Kohliâs activity between the wickets that the target felt more like cakewalk for Team India. Even though he got bowled out at the hands of Josh Hazlewood after being found to be a bit greedy for his century, it didnât affect the final result of the match. India now needed fewer runs than balls left to win, the damage was already done. Champions ð®ð³#INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/168H5qeSSa â BCCI (@BCCI) January 19, 2020 A couple of boundaries by Manish Pandey and a surprisingly good innings by Iyer and India finally won the match and the series to carry along the glory of beating one of the better Australian sides in the recent past. Kohliâs singles made it happen. They not only kept his side closer to the required run rate but also created a sense of frustration amongst the Australian fielders who couldnât stop these pesky singles from taking place. ð®ð³ð®ð³#TeamIndia ð pic.twitter.com/IQmm5Vrf8I â BCCI (@BCCI) January 19, 2020 These are the kind of things that Virat Kohli brings to the team. Things like the willingness to share the crease with his partner, watching him score big runs while standing on the other side of the pitch, and motivating younger cricketers amidst immense pressure. These qualities not only make him a great batter but also a phenomenal captain. View the full article
  10. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt became the talk of the town after they were sighted at the prestigious Golden Globes’ award ceremony side by side this year, seated at tables only feet apart. However, the former couple did not really make an appearance together at the glitzy award night and left their fans craving for more. To treat their fans today, we stumbled upon an old video of the former flames attending the Golden Globes together, and supporting each other in taking home the coveted award. The video dates back to 2003, two years prior to when Jen and Brad called it quits on their marriage. It shows the loving husband cheering his ladylove on, as her name gets called out amongst the nominations for 'Best Actress TV Series Musical or Comedy' category for her role in hit sitcom Friends. As Jen beat actresses like Sarah Jessica Parker and various others, an elated and gleeful Brad looked at her from the audience as she delivered her acceptance speech. An overwhelmed and speechless Jen began by thanking her co-stars, “I have to thank these five people; Matthew Perry, David Shwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc. I love you guys. You started out as my colleagues, and you are my friends, and you are my family,” she said. Jen added, "This wouldn't be even happening if it was not from what I learn from you guys everyday," while paying tribute to the creators and writers of the show too. “I love my job,” Jen ended her speech as Brad applauded from the audience with a warm smile on his face.

  13. Slowly but steadily, Esports is getting some well-deserved attention. And what's interesting is that it's not just the adults who are making it big in Esports these days, as even kids are making a big name for themselves by playing games like Fortnite and PUBG. You remember the kid who won $4 million by winning the Fortnite World Cup, right? Well, now, we're looking at a team of kids from Indonesia who walked away with a hefty cash prize by winning the PUBG Mobile Club Open Fall Split Global. Yes, Team Bigetron RA from Indonesia just won the tournament and walked away with a whopping $180,000, which roughly translates to about Rs 1.29 Crore. Let that sink in for a moment. You just can't keep them down! @realbigetron takes their 5th(!) Chicken Dinner of the #PMCO2019 Fall Split Global Finals sponsored by Vivo in Round 12. It roughly translates to about Rs 65 Lakh. That being said, winning such a tournament isn't an easy thing to pull off. It takes a lot of practice since you'll essentially be competing with the best teams out there. India's Team SouL also competed in a different split, but they couldn't get through to the finals. Team SouL participated this year as well, but they only managed to put a score of 103 on the board after 16 matches, whereas the winning team had 303. Nonetheless, we're incredibly proud of the team and we hope they'll win it next time. There's a huge scope in this field and since it's still evolving, there's a lot of room for growth. It makes us really happy to see these young talents getting all the attention they deserve. We really hope more parents will come across such achievements and let their kid pursue a future in gaming, instead of making them feel bad for gaming. View the full article
  14. Didier Drogba was seeking in all the glory at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris when he was given the envelope that carried the name of the 2019 Ballon d'Or winner on Tuesday. When he peeked inside, he knew that he would be creating history when he would announce who had won the prestigious title, it was Lionel Messi's name. The Argentine footballer won the Ballon d'Or for a record sixth time and has overtaken his long-time legacy rival Cristiano Ronaldo after a one-year stalemate when both Ronaldo and Messi had five and the award was given to Luka Modric in 2018. Not Messi or Ronaldo fan. Just a football fan. But this guy makes football looks like simple 1+1=2. Six ballon d'or is unreal!! pic.twitter.com/CLEAoX1Vcc — WAN-BEASTSAKA !ð. (@hussainimk) December 2, 2019 “I would like to thank the journalists, who voted me to have this prize. Of course, thank you so much to my colleagues both club and country, who have contributed to this amazing prize,” Messi said after receiving the award. “10 years ago I received my first Golden Ball in Paris. I remember that I came with my three brothers. I was 22 years old, it was unthinkable for me. Today, 10 years later, I receive the sixth, at a special time with my wife and three children," he said. Messi has had a spectacular 2019 which makes it very difficult to argue that the 32-year-old did not deserve the honour. 41 goals in 44 games to lead Barcelona to the La Liga title last season and a visit to the Champions League semis alongside a Copa del Rey finale make a solid case for the all-time great. The man who albeit doesn't have any individual statistics to be justifiably compared to Messi, was the major reason behind his club's illustrious season. With van Dijk leading the defense, the Reds only gave away 38 goals in 45 games in the year which is far better than the rest of the teams in the entire European continent. He has the best solo record than any other defender in the world and has to be credited with the major portion of Liverpool's defense despite having Joel Matip and Joe Gomez to support him. "It was amazing. He (Lionel Messi) is pure natural. He is a six time winner so I need to respect that. I hope we can do again what we did with Liverpool and Netherlands last year," he said afterwards. While Juventus' No. 7 failed to show up at the event just like he did when Luka Modric was to be given the award last year, van Dijk was not only there to support Leo Messi but also had genuinely positive words to share about the Barcelona legend's monumental achievement. 16. They say a little luck goes a long way, but then we wonder what about all that truckloads worth of talent which holds the promise of taking you places? While it's true that neither of the two can exist without the other, let us give talent the due credit that it deserves. Regardless of the vocation you may be associated with - whether you call yourself a doctor, a graphic designer, an artist, an architect or an actor, plumber or a civil servant - luck alone wouldn't get you to the pinnacle of success that all of us are ultimately chasing. It takes raw, undiluted talent, and unbridled passion for your art or work to really ace it, or in other words, for it to take you places. These five underrated Bollywood actors who have won international awards for their valuable work in the field of acting only prove that talent has no boundaries. 1. Nawazuddin Siddiqui © Instagram/Nawazuddin Siddiqui Gaitonde doesn't really need an introduction anymore, does he? Nawaz went from playing a tiny role of a terrorist in Sarfarosh to shouldering massive box office hits such as Paan Singh Tomar, Gangs of Wasseypur I & II, The Lunchbox, Manjhi, Mom, Manto and Thackeray. Hours ago, Nawaz won the Golden Dragon Award at the 2019 Cardiff International Film Festival for excellence in cinema in the global arena. 2. Rajkummar Rao © Instagram/Rajkummar Rao For Rajkummar Rao his career has been extremely colourful in terms of the kind of roles he has done. Right from Raagini MMS, Kai Po Che, Shahid, Trapped, to Newton, Stree and Bareilly Ki Barfi, he has proved his mettle time and again. For Newton, he was awarded the Variety Asia Rising Star and Best Actor at Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2017. 3. Irrfan Khan © Instagram/Irrfan Irrfan Khan has been a trailblazer for the Hindi film industry in a lot of ways. A powerhouse of talent, Irrfan has delivered some exceptionally memorable performances in recent times such as Maqbool, The Namesake, Paan Singh Tomar, Life of Pi, The Lunchbox, Piku, Hindi Medium and Qarib Qarib Singlle to name just a few. His role in The Lunchbox won him the Best Actor award in Asian Film Awards and Dubai International Film Festival in 2014. 4. A good parent is not someone who just splurges on you, but is someone who lets you believe that they are not judgemental of the primitive choices you make in your life. Howie Dittman, a 44-year-old man living in Pittsburgh is also a parent, but last week, he ended up being the internet's favourite dad. When Howie found out about a pride parade in Pittsburgh and saw his friend volunteering to give 'mom hugs', he decided to do something similar and participated in the parade, offering 'dad hugs' to the kids who were rejected by their own families. He shared his experience and how impactful a small gesture can be. "Imagine that, parents. Imagine that your child feels SO LOST FROM YOU that they sink into the arms of a complete stranger and sob endlessly just because that stranger is wearing a shirt offering hugs from a dad," he wrote. Either we are too shy, or not too confident or too self-critical to even consider it as a talent that can be let out in public. Well it seems that a Karnataka cop called Chandrakant Hutgi, who is a head constable at the Hubli rural police station, is one such person. He has been named as the 'Pied Piper of the Police Department' after he transformed his lathi into a flute and played such melodious tunes, that IPS officer stationed there was inspired to post the video of Hutgi in action online. As for the man himself, he calls this his hobby. By using simple tools Hutgi made eight holes on his lathi and turned it into a flute on which he loves to play Kannada film songs while he isn't busy working. No wonder he has impressed so many people who cannot stop praising him for his show of unique talent. What innovation we say!
  22. They say travelling broadens our horizons, and exploration is the most honest teacher in town. We wouldn't question that simply because we have personally witnessed, on multiple occasions, how exposure to new landscapes and cultures can transform people for good. We end up admiring the person they become, and whether we admit it or not, we wish to become like them in a lot of ways. Why? Because that kind of goodness never goes out of fashion, and here's proof. It had been just another family vacation for 19-year-old Malhar Kalambe, who was visiting Bali during the summer of 2017. The pristine beaches and clear water surrounding the Indonesian island left Malhar mesmerised until the bigger realities back home in Mumbai shattered Malhar's bubble. © Malhar Kalambe The beaches in Mumbai lay in a wretched state, and the disillusionment from this bigger ground reality hit him hard. He almost blamed the government and municipality, like most of us, and gave up on the situation. However, the damage had already been done, and Malhar simply couldn't move on from what he had witnessed. The Epiphany © Malhar Kalambe It was one such day, when he was sitting with his mother and discussing the sad state of Indian beaches, and wondering why it is so. “I was discussing the state of affairs with my mother and believed that perhaps it's because of the BMC and the government were not doing their job. That's when my mother suggested that if you feel so strongly about this, instead of complaining about it, do something about it. Clean the beach,” Malhar told MensXP. Malhar took up his mother's advice and decided to do something that would make a difference. That's how the Dadar beach clean-up came into existence. Malhar reached out to some of his school friends and together, they set to work. The Start Of A Bigger Movement - 'Beach Please' © Malhar Kalambe Malhar recalls the first time he headed to the beach for a clean-up, “The first time we went to the Dadar beach, we didn't even know that clean-ups should be taken up on the days of low tide. We got together one Sunday and headed to the beach. But due to the high tide, we couldn't do much. So we came back the following weekend and loved the results. That's when we decided to do this for the long haul. Over the next few it became a continuous process and soon turned into a movement.” That's how 'Beach Please' came into existence. The Journey Hasn't Been Easy © Malhar Kalambe Malhar admits that it's been a roller coaster journey. It wasn't easy for the then 19-year-old to convince the people or the BMC officials about the cleanup drive. It took him months to convince them and to be taken seriously by them. The next challenge was to manage the finances required to take the initiative forward. Since Malhar and most of his volunteers are students, and with no funds to back this initiative, all of them pool in their pocket money and arrange all the required props for the clean-up. © Malhar Kalambe Some days, they have over a thousand volunteers, while on other days it's not even a handful. Yet, regardless of the number of volunteers, their personal and academic commitments, Malhar and his friends made the decision to show up for the cleanup every weekend. No excuses. “It's been 88 weeks since we started, and we have never skipped a single weekend,” a proud Malhar shares. Up Next © Malhar Kalambe The Dadar clean-up turned out to be a huge success and caught the attention of lots of people. Over the last 88 weeks, 20000 odd people have been associated with the cause and 'Beach Please' has removed over 1000 tons of waste so far. But Malhar didn't just stop there. He decided to move to the very source where all this waste is collected. Mithi River in Mumbai, one of India's most polluted rivers, was next on his to-do list. © Malhar Kalambe However, it wasn't easy convincing his team to clean up the river, “It took me 3-4 months to convince the team. The reason being, 70% of the river bank is covered with small scale industries which directly dump their waste into the river. So here it wasn't just about plastic waste but included medical waste and chemical waste too. Open defecation in the area also posed as a major problem. But eventually, we took it up and started the Mithi river clean-up in November last year.” The Big Moment For Malhar & 'Beach Please' © Malhar Kalambe 'Beach Please' became Malhar's passion, as his love for the environment found a physical manifestation with it. A B.Com graduate and CA aspirant, Malhar's efforts earned one of the biggest recognitions in the country through UN India's V Award for change makers. “It was the first ever award I have won, and it was huge. You can only imagine how great that felt.” Malhar's parting words are most insightful. He says, “Awareness and lack of civic sense is our biggest flaw as a society. We keep blaming others/government. Whereas we also have to perform their own civic duties and pressurise the authorities to take ownership. Public participation is key, paying taxes is not enough, people have to step out and get their hands dirty if they wish to see a significant change. © Malhar Kalambe As for that one thing that each one of us can do to make our environment cleaner and better, he says, “Segregation waste at the source will solve 50-60% of the problem. Segregating the waste at home is the basic thing each one of us can take up at a personal level.” 21-year-old Malhar has come a long way and made “tonnes” of difference to the world. More power to you Malhar.
  23. It has been more than a day-and-a-half since Lasith Malinga delivered that extra slow ball as the final delivery of the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League, which not only provided the Sri Lankan with the most important wicket of the league but also his team their fourth title, making them the most successful IPL franchise in history. Sure, social media hailed the unorthodox pacer as the saviour of Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians and yes we had a good laugh with whatever MI owner Nita Ambani was chanting during the final stages of the match, but there was one person whose heroics went unnoticed amongst all the noise. When Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings failed to come up with a steady batsman on the crease, former member of the Australian cricket team and one of the most celebrated cricketers in the history of the IPL, opener Shane Watson remained the unshaken cog of whatever competition CSK were able to give MI. © IPL - Twitter Even though the Aussie did not have the most consistent season this year, Watson returned to his old self, as the man who helped the 'Whistle Podu' team win the championship exactly one year ago. Scoring 80 off just 59 balls, Watson almost won Chennai their fourth title, single-handedly had it not been for that failed attempt to score an extra single that got the all-rounder run out. What makes his efforts a lot more impressive is that Watson played a good portion of his innings with an extensively bruised and bloodied left knee. After losing the final, CSK's veteran spinner, Harbhajan Singh put up an Instagram story talking about Watson's injury: © Instagram - Harbhajan Singh “Can you guys see the blood on his knee... He got 6 stitches after the game...Got injured while diving but continued to bat without telling anyone,” wrote the 38-year-old athlete. The Super Kings consist of the oldest cricketers of the league on an average and despite the fact that in the past two years, they have won one title and reached the final once again, which, if you ask us, sounds like a great team but replacing older players like Watson, Singh and MS Dhoni is inevitable.
  24. After a nail-biting match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the IPL 2019 came to an end with Rohit Sharma's team lifting the coveted trophy for a record fourth time. That last-ball thriller was literally everything. © Twitter While Mumbai Indians fans are dancing with joy and celebrating this victory, others are busy debating whether the team members had anything to do with the victory. I know it sounds lame, but these tweets have people convinced that it's not Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya or Jasprit Bumrah, it's actually Mumbai Indians' owner Nita Ambani whose prayers made the team clinch the IPL 2019 trophy. © Twitter In case you missed it, a 'tensed' and praying Nita Ambani has now caught people's attention and has been doing rounds on social media, since last night. Nita Ambani was spotted praying in the later half of the match, especially in the last over and now that her team won, people want to know what 'mantra' she was chanting.
