  1. Over the years, cricket as a sport has been often labelled as the gentleman's game. But, ask an ardent fan and you'd quickly realise that the lines of being a gentleman in cricket have for long been blurred. We've seen players using expletives against each other. The game has witnessed cases of spot-fixing and ball-tampering. There also have been a rare case of a cricketer almost beating a fan with his bat. While the International Cricket Council (ICC) continues to monitor such situations and has managed to curb such incidents that may bring disrepute to the game, the demon of sledging and verbal abuse, every now and then, somehow manages to crawl back into the sport. Thanks to the ever-increasing levels of competition in cricket, every team including some players resort to verbal exploits to upstage the opponent. The strategy of putting sledging to good effect has been associated with Australia's aggressive brand of cricket for decades, but, today, it is a widely common practice that allows teams to upset the temperament and disrupt the focus of the opponents to gain an upper hand. But apart from sledging, there have also been those occasional and rare moments where teammates, too, have been seen engaging in verbal exchanges on the field. From hurling verbal abuses, pointing fingers at each other, charging in anger to heated exchanges, here's a look at six Indian cricketers who lost their cool at their own team members on the field: Nehra Blasts Dhoni Ashish Nehra is undeniably the name that automatically comes to our mind at the first mention of an Indian cricketer abusing his own teammate. The exploits of a furious Nehra during the 2005 ODI between India and Pakistan might have been almost 15 years old, but the fact that he abused none other than MS Dhoni remains one of the hardest pills to swallow for fans. During the 4th ODI at Ahmedabad, Dhoni, who was fairly new on the international circuit, had done his part with the willow, scoring 64-ball 47 in India's 315-run total. But, during the fourth over of Pakistan's run-chase, Shahid Afridi, who was batting on 10, edged a delivery outside the off-stump and the ball flew past Dhoni who was keeping behind the stumps. The left-arm Indian seamer was clearly miffed with Dhoni's efforts before giving him his piece of mind with some expletives. While Nehra recently rendered his apology claiming he was not proud of his behaviour, the fact that Dhoni went on to become one of the most popular and successful cricketers in the country, further makes this incident unforgettable. Laxman Fuming At Ojha Who would have seen this coming? Throughout his career, VVS laxman was known for his composure and grit that reflected in his invaluable innings more often than not. An orthodox batsman who appeared like a diligent pupil of textbook strokes, Laxman was and is still considered to be a man who can do no wrong, let alone lose his temper and blast a fellow teammate. On the final day of the Mohali Test between India and Australia in 2010, tension was soaring at an all-time high in the frenetic closing stage of the match. The hosts were just six runs away from a memorable win against the then World Champions. But, sadly for India, the team had just one wicket in hand, with Laxman and tail-ender Pragyan Ojha at the crease. Batting despite back troubles, Laxman, who was batting with Suresh Raina as his runner, was India's only hope and knew he needed to tread with caution. Keen on retaining the strike, Laxman drilled the ball to mid-off and called for a single, but Ojha, standing at the non-striker's end, got confused and refused to run. Ojha's antics left Laxman fuming at the other end as he screamed more than a few words at his teammate in absolute rage. Luckily for India, Ojha managed to hold fort at the other end and the hosts eked out a thrilling win from jaws of defeat. Laxman, who remained unbeaten on 73, claimed that he apologised to Ojha for his behaviour, but never disclosed exactly what he said to him. Dhoni 'Abuses' Manish Pandey © Twitter/@BCCI Over the years, MS Dhoni has established himself as one of the most respected and iconic cricketers to have played the gentleman's game. Apart from his skills, Dhoni's calm and composed demeanour has earned him plaudits from fans and pundits alike. Thus, in 2018, in a rare incident when the camera caught Dhoni allegedly abusing Manish Pandey, no one really believed it. The 2nd T20I between India and South Africa saw Dhoni and Pandey stitch a crucial 98-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The final over of the Indian innings saw the stump mic picking up Dhoni having a crack at Pandey, who was standing at the non-striker's end, looking somewhere else. "Oye, Bho***ke, idhar dekh le. Udhar kya dekh raha hai? (Look here. What are you looking at there),â was the initial impression of Dhoni's stump-mic recording. But, cricket fans still remain divided over Dhoni's comments. While some believe he did abuse Pandey, others feel that he said: "Oye, Bhoot**ke, idhar dekh le. Udhar kya dekh raha hai?". Jadeja Riles Up Raina Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja are well-known for their close friendship and mutual respect for each other. The duo had thrived under the leadership of MS Dhoni in Team India and still remain the best of buddies. Thus, the sight of Jadeja and Raina exchanging verbal volleys and bickering in the middle ground in 2013. During the Tri-Series that featured India, Sri Lanka and West Indies in the Caribbean, Dhoni was sidelined during the group stages of the tournament. Amid Dhoni's absence, young Virat Kohli was asked to lead the Indian team during the clash against the Windies. During the West Indies innings, Raina had dropped Sunil Narine on two occasions. But, Jadeja dismissed the left-hander in the 34th over to make up for Raina's errors. After dismissing Narine, Jadeja walked up to Raina and pointed out his mistake. Unhappy with his fielding, Jadeja took it a bit too far by taking a jibe at Raina for losing Team India captaincy to Kohli. "Because you've lost the captaincy, you've also lost interest in fielding?," he reportedly told Raina. The comments left Raina fuming in rage as the duo continued to exchange words until Kohli intervened. "Raina and Jadeja have spoken to the team manager and tendered unconditional apology for their on-field behaviour. They have promised that this type of an act won't be repeated again. Both the cricketers have understood that their conduct is unbecoming of a national team cricketer," a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI in 2013. Harbhajan Provokes Rayudu © Twitter/@IPL Ambati Rayudu and Harbhajan Singh might not have played a lot of games together in the Indian team, but the fact that they played with Mumbai Indians (MI) from 2008 to 2017 and played key roles in their team's three IPL title triumphs hints at the good rapport they share. The duo are still teammates while plying their trade for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). But, in 2016, the two cricketers looked far from good mates on the field. During the 2016 season of the IPL, Mumbai Indians were playing against Rising Pune Supergiant when Harbhajan was bowling to Saurabh Tiwary. The left-hander had pulled the off-spinner to the fence where some confusion between Rayudu and Tim Southee saw the ball going past the boundary line for a four. Bhajji was unimpressed by Rayudu's efforts. Harbhajan, who had not conceded a single boundary in his spell till then, was livid as he gestured with his hands to Rayudu and emitted a loud yell evidently in uncharitable language. The verbal volleys of Bhajji provoked Rayudu who charged in from the fence towards the off-spinner as the duo exchanged a few words. Moments later, Bhajji tried to make peace with Rayudu by wrapping his arms around him, but Rayudu was having none of it as he shrugged off the reconciliatory gesture. While Mumbai Indians eventually won the contest on the back of Rohit Sharma's blazing 85, the unusual and surprising on-field spat between Harbhajan and Rayudu left a bit of a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Jadeja Takes On Ishant India's tour of Australia in 2018 will always be remembered for their historic Test series win - their first Down Under. But, during the Perth Test, the only match India lost in the series, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma found themselves taking on each other in a heated on-field exchange. While there is no clear explanation behind their spat, it is believed that Ishant was apparently unhappy with Jadeja's fielding position. The two cricketers initially exchanged a few words from a distance before getting close while continuing to engage in the animated conversation. âWho knows what theyâre talking about, it does seem very animated, thereâs lots of finger-pointing. Things have obviously got a little bit heated between these two,â Ponting said while commentating for Channel 7. As Australia went on to win the Test by 146 runs, the incident of two Indian cricketers bickering on the field remained the topic of great discussion on social media amongst fans. But, the incident was eventually overshadowed - thanks to Virat Kohli-led India's triumph in the next game that saw them winning the Test series. View the full article
  2. The novel coronavirus has claimed many lives and created havoc across the world. While the scientists are finding it extremely difficult to find an antidote to it, the Hindu Mahasabha recently stirred a controversy by claiming that the epidemic is not a virus but an âavatarâ to punish non-vegetarians. According to IANS, Swami Chakrapani, the National President of All India Hindu Mahasabha said, âCorona is not a virus, but avatar for the protection of poor creatures. They have come to give the message of death and punishment to the one who eats them.â © BCCL/Virus As bizarre as it may sound, the National President also drew analogy of Lord Narsingh and said he has taken an avatar to kill people who torture innocent creatures and teach âChinese a lessonâ to not do this anymore. Besides, Swami Chakrapani went on to claim that there is a way out of this epidemic, for the Chinese. He said they need to make an idol of Corona and apologize for harming and killing the innocent animals and and all non-vegetarian Chinese populace "pledge of not harming any innocent creatures in future, then the anger of Corona will come down". © BCCL/Virus However, the Hindu Mahasabha Chief thinks that Hindu shouldnât fear the deadly virus as people who worship God and Gau Raksha believers are immune to the novel coronavirus. 3. No matter how much you envy the star kids and their dreamy and fairytale-like world, there is no denying that being born to famous celebrities comes with its own pressure, media attention, fanfare and scrutiny. While most people would love to switch places with them, let's face the reality that their lives are far from being perfect or ideal. And no one knows or understands this bitter truth better than 20-year-old Sara Tendulkar, daughter of 'The God of Cricket' Sachin Tendulkar. Instagram/ Sara Tendulkar Official For the longest time, Sachin's son Arjun has been hogging the limelight for his budding steps in the field of Cricket and how people can already envision him shaping up to become another great Cricket star. However, this time it was Sachin's daughter Sara, who found herself grabbing media's attention after she was recently targeted by a stalker, who even threatened to kidnap her, if she didn't give in to his requests. Here's the back story. Reportedly, 32-year-old Debkumar Maity from West Bengal, started bombarding Sara with phone calls, where he passed lewd comments and expressed his desire to marry her. Annoyed and scared by these threats, Sara filed a complaint against him and the man was soon arrested. Maity's actions were deemed as the result of his mental instability by his family and everyone else went back to their respective chores as Maity was held under police interrogation. Instagram/ Sara Tendulkar Official However, there's now a twist in the story – apparently, Maity was guided to fall in love with Sara. Do you want to know who that guide is? *Drumroll* According to Maity, he was guided by 'lightning' to fall in love with Sachin's daughter. You read that right and there's no exaggeration involved here. Honestly, bizarre would be an understatement for this epic explanation from the man, who took Bollywood romance to a whole new level with his crazy actions. Instagram/ Sara Tendulkar Official According to him, lightning acted as a wingman to confirm his love while he was watching her on TV. He reportedly said, “I looked up in the sky and asked, 'Is Sara Tendulkar my wife?' and lightening struck to confirm it. I said it on the phone when I called Tendulkar's office.” He further said, “I used to say, in broken Hindi, 'Sara Tendulkar is my life and I want to marry her.” While this man has the guts to call Sachin Tendulkar his father-in-law and even get a tattoo with Sara's name, many people might share a good laugh over this, but there is no way one can justify his actions; even if he did that due to the loss of mental balance as his family claims it is. Stalking and threatening people is not cool guys. It is high time people open their eyes and their mouth against everything that's wrong, instead of keeping their mouths shut.
  4. We all are quite familiar with the fact, that most parks in India have pretty much lost their value as a recreational spot for families and children. What earlier used to be regarded as an everyday spot for playing and even for school picnics, has now turned into a place dreaded by adults and children alike. While most people pretend to be cool with PDA, couples spending some 'quality time' can be attributed as a major reason as to why no one likes to visit public parks anymore. However, one such park in Coimbatore has pretty much crossed all limits to stop couples and even bachelors from entering. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore has banned the entry of unmarried couples in its ever-so-famous and beautiful Botanical Garden. © Facebook Bachelors with even female friends cannot enter the premises anymore. A staff member has also been quoted saying that only couples who show their marriage certificates or are accompanied by children can be allowed. The reason for the same was explained by M Kannan, professor and head of the floriculture department at TNAU. © Agritech TNAU He said in an interview, "Fed-up with the couples using the park as their hiding and recreation area, the university has come up with this rule. We initially tried to put up rules and regulations such as seeking their ID proofs and asking details such as phone numbers. Despite all that, couples continued to behave inappropriately causing a lot of discomfort to other visitors. Students and families have also complained many times.” © Facebook Besides taking this extreme step, an entry register is also maintained in the park where all visitors are 'requested to' enter their personal details - like name, address and phone number. There is also an information board that requests visitors to 'maintain their dignity' at the park. What's more is that even the school and college students who used to visit the park for educational trips are not allowed anymore which has obviously led to the outrage. © Facebook While we understand the concern that the university authorities have, we do have to say that this step is a little too extreme. Asking someone to show their marriage certificate is downright absurd and we now think, the requirement of Aadhaar card to enter public places doesn't seem too far-fetched anymore.
  5. Until last year or maybe a few months back, memes were a source of humour and entertainment. However, of late, memes have only turned into a fodder for controversies and with each passing day, the curators are finding themselves falling in deep sh*t. Earlier, AIB suffered a wrath of Indians when they posted a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Snapchat's dog filter along with his lookalike, and now one of our favourite Disney characters has fallen in trouble for something that wasn't even its fault. According to some Chinese trolls, ‘Winnie The Pooh' looks like their President Xi Jinping and this irked the authorities so much that they banned this adorable yellow bear on Chinese social networks. © Walt Disney Wow, what did the poor bear, who cares for nothing but honey, do to China's censors that they took that character away from the kids. Well, these comparisons have been doing rounds since 2013 when Jinping's meeting with former US President Barack Obama was compared to Pooh walking with his friend Tigger. Later, a handshake between Jinping and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe was compared with Pooh and his friend Eeyore. While, these memes were adorably funny, they clearly didn't go down well with the censors. In fact, GIFs of Winnie the Pooh have been deleted from China's instant messaging app WeChat and if you write a message mentioning the bear, you will get an error message. © Twitter Twitter was definitely not in the mood to let this pass and started giving their opinion on the social media. RT @benyunmowang I really should read Winnie the Pooh... #Xi #Abe #APEC2014 #China #Japan @EleanorFreund @mwings17 pic.twitter.com/W9nr0Hx1XA — Nancy 韵 (@NancyYunTang) 10 November 2014 Pooh was blacklisted in China because of the popularity of this photo. Earlier, in India a cartoonist from West Bengal was called out for making cartoons on Mamata Banerjee. Wow, so much in the name of censorship. Time and again, all these incidents have proved that we people are still not ready for taking jokes the way they should be taken.
  6. After Pakistan beat India on Sunday taking home their first Champions Trophy, Pakistani anchor Aamir Liaquat lost his shit and launched an insane rant against India, Indian players, Indian actors, and Indian Prime Minister (basically everything Indian) on his current affairs show titled ‘Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga’ on BOL News. Instead of staying on topic, the anchor starts criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian captain Virat Kohli and Rishi Kapoor. The show starts with the following – “Indian mothers would tell their children, be afraid of the Pakistani team because when they arrive they would defeat you by 180 runs.” Highlighting the entire baap-beta trend over the internet, he rants “tumhaare asal baap hum hai, baap baap hota hai aur paap paap hota hai”. He goes on addressing the Prime minister as Darindar Modi, asking him to drown in the ‘chullu bhar paani’ that he has banned Pakistan from using. Watch the video here – The anchor does not even spare Bollywood actor, Rishi Kapoor by saying, “We don’t use Kapoor in our names, we eat Kapoor”, in response to the actor’s tweets taking a dig at Pakistan prior to the contest. 7. After the tremendous success of ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, our expectations were touching the sky. So it was clear that this wait of almost two years won’t go in vain, and one can get a fair idea of how big the second part is, by looking at the madness among the people. While the cast and crew members of the second installment aka ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ were enjoying their cake of success, there was one guy who was sheepishly trying to sneak away the cherry placed on top of the cake. That guy is none other than director Ram Gopal Varma who left no stone unturned in raising an eyebrow or two by making startling comments on the movie and the entire film fraternity. © Arka Media Works When our beloved RGV is not busy making shitty movies, you can find him cooking up controversy on Twitter or any other social media platform. This time around director SS Rajamouli and 'Baahubali 2' seem to be the fodder for controversy as Varma has gone all out to praise the movie, even at the stake of calling other film makers and movies dogs. Recently, he tweeted saying that calling 'Baahubali 2' a storm will be insulting. He furthered that it’s a typhoon having ‘intercourse’ with a volcano to produce baby earthquakes. Now either someone gift him a science textbook or a big tape because that’s way too much for us to handle. 8. Japan has a weird tradition of a ***** parade that takes place every year. Many Japanese women sit on a carved out phallic symbol for good luck and it is completely normal. 9. For any student his or her merit certificates like mark-sheets and graduation certificates are the most treasured documents and a statement of pride of their hard work, but for a certain student of Mumbai University, her convocation certificate will remind her of the major f**k up that hilariously turned her name into object. Nikita Kite (pronounced as Kee-tay), a BMM student from Ramnarain Ruia College was in for a shock when she held the certificate in her hand only to find her name written as ‘Patang Nikita’ in Marathi. © Twitter MU got to know about this mistake when Nikita tweeted about this tagging the university’s officials. Well, we can’t really blame the 160-year-old University because this f**k up happened due to language software that translates from English to Marathi. Placing the blame on a software, Deepak Wasave, the in-charge controller of examinations, said “When the dictionary is on, the names get automatically translated. Certificates are usually proofread, so there may not be many such cases.” Wow, isn’t this ironic that despite being proofread this error managed to dodge several eyes. Deepak further added, “One student approached us and we have rectified the error in her certificate.” © Twitter While Nikita’s certificate has been rectified, all you people out there who have names like Pant, More, or Joy, be extra careful while receiving documents that have been translated from English. Basically they translated it word to word instead of transliteration. But that’s slightly foolish on their part because they didn’t see the error and let it go like that. Source: The Times Of India
  10. Ever since the Supreme Court issued an order that National Anthem should be played in the movie halls across the country, some ‘patriots’ have taken it on their shoulders to turn moral police and reignite that lost spark of nationalism in the citizens, and they don’t even care about the extent to which they go to make their voices heard. Just in case you are feeling good about this, let us tell you punching an elderly man in the name of nationalism is not something to be proud of and we wouldn’t refrain from saying that it’s really shameful on your part. © BCCL In Mumbai’s Goregaon area, a 59-year-old man, Amalraj Peter Dasan, was attacked by a drunk for not standing up during the national anthem tune that was being played in one of the scenes in the movie ‘Dangal’. To set things straight, Dasan dutifully stood during the national anthem that played before the beginning of the movie. Ironically, Dasan and his wife were the only ones who stood up during the national anthem as the hall was empty. So is this some sort of a new symbol of patriotism where you aren’t nationalist enough if you don’t rise each time the anthem is played, even if it’s just in a scene? Or does rising during the anthem make you more patriotic, while you can walk out and talk sh*t about the country later? Traumatized by the event, Dasan and his wife requested Mumbai Mirror to appeal to all the actors, producers and the Censor Board, on their behalf and alert the audience if there were any scenes related to the national anthem. © Mumbai Mirror The accused has been identified as Shirish Madhukar, a 52-year-old man who has now been booked under the IPC sections 323 and 504. According to an officer from Goregaon Police station, the accused said that he was under the influence of alcohol and “taken over by patriotic zeal that reflected in the movie.” Wow! Recalling the traumatic incident, Dasan said “It was the scene where the protagonist's daughter wins the gold medal and the national anthem's tune is being played in the background. Suddenly, a man who was obviously very drunk, started screaming at everyone. He was shouting filthiest of abuses and asking people to stand up.” He further added, “I didn't realise he was demanding that people rise to the national anthem tune. Before I could react, he landed a punch on my cheek. My wife was horrified as I took a few seconds to recover from the blow. By this time, the movie hall's security managed to pin him down and the cops took him away.” © BCCL Agitated over this wrongful questioning of his patriotism by an “overzealous patriot”, Dasan said “I didn't know the movie's plot. How was I to know the national anthem would be played in the background in one of the scenes? Today it is me, tomorrow another unsuspecting movie-goer will be assaulted by an overzealous `patriot'.” “Mr Aamir Khan or the Censor Board should put an alert before the scene. We live in the times when people don't think twice before assaulting anyone, be it women or senior citizens,” Dasan said. Although he does not want his attacker to be punished any further, he did mention that there needs to be a proper mechanism to protect the people and we do agree with him. © BCCL The Goregaon police said that the investigation would still continue, despite the family willing to forgive Madhukar. Apparently, the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a circular last year stating that when an anthem in playing in a film, one is not expected to stand, “When in the course of a newsreel or documentary, anthem is played as a part of the film, it is not expected of the audience to stand as standing is bound to interrupt the exhibition of the film and would bring in disorder and confusion rather than add to the dignity of the anthem.” Well guys, we just have one thing to say, your hearts might be brimming with patriotism but that does not give you the power to beat anyone. 12. There’s crap, a pile of garbage and under it all, is our infamous Godman Swami Om. ColorsTV The man is stirring some sexist shit up in the Bigg Boss House right now and even getting away with it all. It’s disgusting to know he’s one of the strongest contestants on ‘Bigg Boss 10’. In the very first episode, he narrated how he kicked Elizabeth Taylor for wearing a ‘revealing and inappropriate’ outfit. Later, he went on to slut shame women in the house and put everyone off in general with his misogynistic mindset. ColorsTV But of course, sexism isn’t the only thing that’s wrong with him. He’s the biggest example of religious intolerance too. The internet dug up this interview of him wherein he threatened to kidnap Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Aamir Khan if they didn’t convert to Hinduism. He even went to the extent of suggesting that Sharmila Tagore, Gauri Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan married their men for money, nothing else. Watch the whole video here, and wish you could punch him right in the face.
