ZODIAC

  1. The fixture marks the start of the three-match ODI series which is part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League
  2. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batters held their nerves in a low-scoring thriller and registered their first win of the ongoing IPL 2022 . The Faf du Plessis-led side defeated two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets in a nail-biting encounter at the DY Patil Stadium. View this post on Instagram From bowling spells by Wanindu Hasarnga and Harshal Patel to Dinesh Karthik’s finishing skills, there were plenty of positives for the Bangalore-based franchise, who had failed to defend a mammoth 205-run total against Punjab Kings (PBKS) just a couple of days ago at the same venue. pic.twitter.com/oa1YHk995c — That-Cricket-Girl (@imswatib) March 30, 2022 For the majority of the match, the former Proteas skipper did a fanatic job, setting the right field and making right bowling changes at the right time. However, RCB’s one poor DRS call made the whole squad butt of jokes on the micro-blogging site. On the last ball of the 16th over, Harshal Patel, who had already picked up two wickets, was up against KKR’s number 11 Varun Chakaravarthy. In search of a third wicket, the 31-year-old medium pacer attempted a yorker which was successfully defended by the KKR batter, right from the middle of his bat. DRS king RCB #RCBvKKR pic.twitter.com/XElYjxaO9I — ᴀʙʜʀᴀɴɪʟ ᴅᴜᴛᴛᴀ (@The_AbD22) March 30, 2022 What followed was a chain of comical events which resulted in one of the worst reviews of all-time. Harshal was convinced that the ball had hit the shoes first and looking at his strong appeal the RCB captain also didn’t think twice before going upstairs. The replay on the big screen indeed confirmed that Chakaravarthy’s boot was nowhere near the ball and the shot had come off right from the middle of the bat. View this post on Instagram The people were left in disbelief when du Plessis opted to challenge the on-field decision and they trolled him mercilessly on the micro-blogging site. Some described it as one of the worst reviews of all-time, while others joked that it was a side effect of du Plessis sharing the locker room with Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli, whose DRS record was not very encouraging. Worst review ever seen...have seen few horrible ones in the past but this one — movieman (@movieman777) March 30, 2022Rcb using DRS like , Me using my dad’s money — Rahul Ramu (@RahulRamu33) March 30, 2022This review from RCB is a Mockery of the review system after this next over Siraj coaxed Faf for an other review he denied with a wry smile. — Venkatraman sreedharan (@Venkatramansre3) March 30, 2022WTH faf has done Taking review that hit middle of bat, worst DRS taken. KKR were nine down and RCB had two reviews left in their account. That’s why the RCB leader didn’t ponder much and straightaway went for the DRS. Some even believed that it was a tactical move to kill time and avoid the slow over-rate penalty. Whatever the reason maybe, the decision sure allowed the fans to laugh at their expense. 3. Moviegoers in Austin, Texas, got to see more than one type of bat during a screening of 'The Batman'
  4. Warning: This copy contains spoilers about The Batman. Before I'm falsely taken for a Marvel fanboy or as a Batman hater, I want to establish the fact that Batman is one character that I've loved and cherished a lot throughout my childhood. There is something about Batman that sets him apart from the rest of the superheroes, and it's more than the fact that he's a mere mortal who had a hard childhood. I've been fortunate enough to witness a lot of amazing tales of Gotham's caped crusader through the insanely abundant DC Comic books and graphic novels like the Knightfall series, Hush, Batman: The Killing Joke, Batman: The Long Halloween, and Batman: The Dark Knight. © Mansij Asthana This is in addition to Rocksteady's amazing Batman: Arkham games and Batman: The Animated Series, which clearly have had different takes on the origins of Batman and the Bat-Family. © Rocksteady Games © Warner Bros I specify this just to ascertain that, for me, there's nothing more wonderful than to see a new re-adaptation of The Dark Knight on the big screen. Like you, I had been waiting anxiously to witness the new Batman movie by Matt Reeves. © Warner Bros To see Robert Pattinson don the iconic Batman cowl and cape was something that hugely excited me, having been a big fan of Robert's work in films. His history of working in amazing films like Harry Potter, Good Time, Remember Me, The Lighthouse, and The Devil All The Time, made me feel that he was perfect to become the next Batman, an opinion not a lot of people shared at the time. © Warner Bros However, what I saw in the theatres was a massive disappointment, and here are the reasons for it: 1. Meet The Most Talkative Batman Yet © Warner Bros If there's one thing that we know about Matt Reeves' Batman, it's the fact that he sure loves to talk. Be it when he's with Lieutenant James Gordon (not Commissioner yet), the Catwoman, or even while he's all by himself, he just keeps talking. If there's one thing known about Batman from the comics, TV Shows, and even some of the good movies, it's that he's a man of few words. You'll never see him glorifying himself. But unfortunately, that's what he keeps doing throughout this film. Even in the opening sequence running up to his appearance, he can be heard saying things like, 'They Think I'm Hiding In The Shadows. But I'm The Shadows'. Okay. Cinematically, this may sound like a cool idea. However, he keeps coming up with stuff like: 'I Need To Save This City' 'Someone Has To Do It' No. Stop. Do you need to save the city? Yes. But do you need to talk about saving the city all the time? No. 2. Cliched Beyond Belief © Warner Bros This is where the movie truly went south for me. At the backdrop of the movie being shown as something that would challenge your intellect with Riddler's countless Riddles, the plot is just very mundane. Of course, Paul Dano's Riddler does well to create an air of mystery by shedding light on the dirt that lies under the nails of Gotham's famous policemen, judges, and other people at power. However, there are far too many loopholes throughout the film to suggest otherwise. First of all, the relationship between Batman and Catwoman is weird as hell. This is not to mention the fact that she repeatedly refers to him as 'Vengeance' (something he mentions once to a gang of goons at the start). © Warner Bros I swear, for every time Catwoman (Oh god! I could make a better mask out than her) calls him 'Vengeance', I felt like I wanted to push her off the roof myself! Now, getting back to the point of their relationship, Batman literally meets her once, and now he just happens to care a lot about her. "Take Care Of Yourself, Selina", he appears to say a couple of times in the film. Dude! She's Catwoman. She'll be okay. You look after yourself! I get it. The movie is an attempt to show a more humane part of Batman, who himself is a prisoner to his own fate and past scars. However, that is no way of showing it. Not just that, the scene at the end, where he deliberately jumps onto the loose electric cable to save people underneath has to be the most cliched means of showing that the hero would sacrifice himself to protect others. I mean, Batman could have easily thrown his Batarang to cut the cable without wanting to look heroic in the scene. Also, the one where he uses a flare and rescues people from the water too is something that was too damn cliched from start to finish. 3. Robert Pattinson's Batman Is The Slowest Batman Ever! © Warner Bros Oh boy! One of the reasons why the movie was around three-hours long was the fact that this Batman does everything in slow-mo! Whether it is searching for clues, chasing criminals, or even fighting them while facing a loaded gun, he'll make sure to take his time. Now if you can remember the fight scene at the very end where he's taking on the Riddler clones, he almost deliberately gets shot because he takes way too much time to punch the one trying to shoot him. I mean, that was incredibly stupid considering he's got a city to save from drowning. Not only that, even the time when Falcone is shot in the head by Paul Dano's Riddler, Batman clearly sees Riddler go for the run, but instead of running after him so that he doesn't escape, the Batman stylishly walks towards the apartment, only to find that he's not there. "He's Gone," he says to the police. Yeah, No, Sh*t, Batman! Now, if the Riddler hadn't miraculously tried to surrender himself at the coffee shop, we're sure Batman had absolutely no chance of catching him at the apartment. Batman is a vigilante who strikes fast, and strikes hard, having been trained by none other than Ra's al Ghul, the leader of the League Of Assassins. © Warner Bros Sure! There can be countless renditions of Batman, but Robert Pattinson's Batman is hands down the slowest of them all! 4. The Most Gullible Batman Ever © Warner Bros Okay! Let's establish another fact about Bruce Wayne AKA The Batman! He is a Master Detective, Master Combatant, Master Weapons Specialist, Master of Stealth, and has Genius-Level intellect. Not just that, Batman is of a scientific mind, which means that he believes in nothing other than cold, hard facts. This is what makes him a great detective, an area which Matt Reeves' noir film was set out to explore. However, while we were busy seeing Batman pick up clues and solve riddles left by the Riddler, it was surprising to see him become so damn naive. I mean, of course, it was a big shock for him to find out that his father Thomas Wayne, was also a part of the rotten history of Gotham City, especially considering the reason why Bruce Wayne chose to be Batman. However, it was still shocking to see an anguished Bruce Wayne just walk up to Falcone and ask him about the truth about his father, only to then believe whatever a crook like he had to say about it. If that wasn't gullible enough of Master Bruce, he then happily agreed to change his mind when an injured Alfred had a word with him at the hospital. For someone with the intelligence of Batman, you'd expect a lot better, won't you? Well, unfortunately, we didn't get to see that quite often! 5. Don't Let The Movie Fool You Into Believing It's An Artistic Masterpiece © Warner Bros Okay! There are some great shots in the film, with the moment between Batman and Catwoman on the top of the tower being one of them. As you must have seen on social media platforms like Instagram and others recently, there's much more emphasis on the importance of the use of colour palettes in films to make them appear more aesthetically pleasing. Of course, if the movie looks beautiful, it's always a plus. But what is not okay is to put so much emphasis on it that it starts affecting the movie adversely. This is what I think happened with The Batman. Now, while the continuous rainy, dark, and dingy landscape of Gotham City rightfully painted the truth of it being a place where criminals breed, there were times when it was just overdone. On top of that, the overuse of the Batman soundtrack or other background music in almost every scene, led to the scenes becoming less impactful, something that I'm sure was the opposite of what was intended. Think of this, when the Batman soundtrack comes on the screen, you're bound to get goosebumps. But, in the case of the film, the soundtrack was just used everywhere, with different renditions of the same Batman music being played throughout the movie. If that didn't throw me off, it was the crazy loud levels at which it was played that made it almost impossible to hear anything else. I mean, when Batman is dodging bullets and punching the villains, you'd want to hear that, right? Well, Matt Reeves was of a different opinion! 6. The Stupidest Car Chase Scene Ever In The History Of Car Chases © Warner Bros "Hey, Penguin! I'm getting really angry now! Why don't you get in the car so that I can chase you?" "Oh, sure, Batman! Just give me a minute!" Honestly, I was super psyched about the new Batmobile, having seen bits of it in the previous trailers. And, to be fair, the iconic beast of a car sure did not disappoint. However, it was the 'supposedly cool' car-chase scene between Batman and the Penguin that left a lot to be desired. I mean, while it was a great sequence, it sure felt like a pushed one. If I can recap, Batman was lying on the ground after being shot at during his chit-chat session with Catwoman. Now, while it would have been so much easier to just take on Penguin and the rest of the mob using his fighting skills, Batman just goes and hides into his Batmobile. Now, let me remind you, the Penguin was not even in the car by this time, however, after seeing Batman in his Batmobile, he comically gets into one to run away. © Warner Bros For me, this was clearly a forced action sequence that maybe looked cool, cinematically speaking, but was one that could have and should have been done very differently. 7. Alfred Was Just A One-Dimensional Character In The Film © Warner Bros The casting of English actor Andy Serkis, the guy who played Golem in the Lord Of Rings, as Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth, was clearly one of the most exciting news that came out back when the movie was still developing. However, just like Rob Pattinson, it looked like the movie did not make use of Serkis' incredible acting ability. Alfred is one of the most important characters in the Batman universe and has a lot of history to him. However, in contrast, the Alfred that we saw in the film was a very one-dimensional one. Yep! As seen in the movie, he really didn't have much of a role. Not just that, some of the things were so un-Alfred-like. For instance, he opens up a letter for Bruce, something that the real Alfred would never, ever do. Not just that, he's then naive enough to actually fall for Riddler's trap for Bruce/Batman. What happens next is even more appalling. We see a scene in the hospital where Alfred talks to a flustered Bruce. Now, we know that there has always been a special relationship between Bruce and Alfred, with the former English Special Forces soldier almost a father figure to Bruce. But that still does not explain the atrocious and almost cringe-worthy scene between the two where they attempt to hold each other's hands. Again, this would have been touching, had they really explored more of their past relationship, but just in the context of the film, like the car-chase scene, this too, was unwanted, unnatural, and extremely corny. 8. The Awful Batman & Catwoman Bike Race At The End © Warner Bros It sure looks like Hollywood has made a big deal of showing protagonists 'go separate ways' at the end of the film. I mean, you can only look back at the very emotional Paul Walker and Vin Diesel scene from the Fast & Furious 7 movie to know that it has worked in the past. Now, while it obviously can be a moving scene that people take back home and ponder upon for days, the scene at the end of Matt Reeves' Batman film was far from it. In the end, it can be seen that Batman and Catwoman have an emotional moment between them before they get on their bikes and hilariously ride next to each other. Now, while this could have been a powerful scene, the way it was carried out, looked comical to me. Also, the way in which Batman's cape just floated behind him while he rode the bike, presented more chances of the Dark Knight getting killed in a road accident than actually at the hands of a super-villain like Joker or the Riddler. To conclude, there were a lot of expectations out of the film, and while many clearly enjoyed the film, personally, I felt, The Batman was very, very disappointing. View the full article

Back when Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to their second IPL title, it was the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee who felicitated the skipper and the squad at the Eden Gardens in 2014. Alongside Lucknow, the Gujarat Titans will be the second new team that will debut in the 14th season of the cash-rich league. Former Zimbabwe cricketer Andy Flower will coach the Lucknow franchise, and Gautam Gambhir will serve as a mentor. Before the mega-auction, Lucknow chose three prominent players: elegant opener KL Rahul, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Rahul, who was the captain of the Punjab Kings for the last two seasons, will lead the new team. View this post on Instagram However, during the auction, some big names like Deepak Hooda, Jason Holder, and Krunal Pandya were among the multi-dimensional talents that the team owners bought, ensuring that the batting order has ample diversity. Quinton de Kock (6.75 crores), the South African wicketkeeper-batsman, is anticipated to start the batting alongside Rahul. Kyle Mayers of the West Indies has been selected as a backup. The franchise also chose Manish Pandey for a fee of Rs 4.6 crores. Pandey has struggled in the IPL in recent seasons and considering that he will play the position of an anchor at No. 3, his performance will be key to Lucknow's success. 7. The captain of the Indian cricket team in Test cricket, Virat Kohli is known to be an aggressive player and is never the one to back down from any kind of fight. He has shown a lot of grit and loyalty while standing up to the opposing sides like the Englishmen and the Australians whenever they’ve tried to get under Kohli or his teammates’ skin. However, things weren’t quite the same during Day 3 of the third and final Test match of the India-South Africa series in Cape Town when Kohli acted as the aggressor and started commenting and mocking the rival skipper, Dean Elgar. Virat Kohli's reaction after Dean Elgar survived an LBW call by using DRS #viratkholi #elgar #SAvsIND @lolgraaaam @ICC @ICCMediaComms pic.twitter.com/h9Kw1pWf3D — Akash Rajput (@AkashRa66) January 13, 2022 Kohli can be heard throwing some brutal sledging towards Elgar in one such instance from Day 3, which went viral on Twitter. The Indian skipper attempted to insult the tough Proteas leader by suggesting he is avoiding India's best seamer, Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli didn't stop there, telling the 34-year old batter that he has been doing this for the last 13 years and reminding him of India's previous visit to South Africa in 2018. "Chirping for 13 years Dean Elgar, you think you can keep me quiet?." - Virat Kohli to Dean Elgar — CricketMAN2 (@man4_cricket) January 13, 2022 Normally, Kohli gets a lot of support from the young Indian fans when he starts showing his aggression on the field because he is usually the one who lets his bat do all the talking and only opens his mouth when the other side tries to sledge him first. However, the skipper got heavily criticised for being the aggressor in this scenario and was called out of showing desperation on the field with such words because he knew that he had not done a good job with the bat and that the dream of winning the first Test series in South Africa was hanging by a thread, despite a convincing victory that they had picked in the first Test. Ahead of Day 4 of the final Test, India needs eight wickets to win the match meanwhile South Africa needs to score just 111 runs more in order to win the third and final match and therefore the series as well. 8. On Day 3 of the third and final Test against South Africa in Cape Town, Rishabh Pant spearheaded India's drive, slamming his fourth ton in the lengthier version of the game. India set a tough 212-run goal for the hosts in the series finale, with the left-handed batsman scoring an unbeaten 100. Pant just needed 133 deliveries to achieve the triple-digit mark, thanks to a good strike rate. During his excellent performance, he also garnered a lot of admiration from people online for his heartfelt gesture. View this post on Instagram Pant lost control of his bat with the first delivery of Duanne Oliver's 60th over, as he tried to shift gears in pursuit of huge hits and lost control of his bat. Although the hitter was able to make contact and the ball travelled towards the square-leg region, his bat flew in the other direction. Pant quickly ran up to his bat and began petting it before placing a kiss on it shortly after. Fans reacted positively to Pant's generosity, with many taking to social media to express their gratitude. Have seen batsman throwing bat in anger... Not even Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper could manage to put up over 29 runs, despite an impressive 79-run knock in the first inning that guided the Men in Blue’s total to 223 on Day 1. The Proteas managed to dismiss the entire Indian batting order to just 198 runs on Day 3 of 5 and even managed to score 101 runs for the loss of just two wickets. Ahead of Day 4, the hosts need just 111 runs to win the third match and the series, meanwhile India requires to dismiss 8 more wickets to book the series in their name. View this post on Instagram Although an extremely difficult task to complete, if by any miracle, the Indian bowlers do manage to dismiss all the South Africa batters before they chase down India’s total, it would be their very first Test series victory in the country ever since the two sides started playing red-ball cricket against each other since 1992.
