  1. Shocking video of bunch of students, mostly girls, crying and screaming for no apparent reason at govt school in India has gone viral
  2. Ahead of every new season of Indian Premier League (IPL), the expectations from Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are always sky-high for they are the two most successful outfits in the tournament’s history. Due to their rich legacy, everyone expects the two franchises to rule the show all the time. However, the 15th edition of the tournament has given both sides a massive reality check that their glorious past can’t improve their present. View this post on Instagram Having lost their first four matches on the trot, defending champions CSK and record IPL winners MI are languishing at the bottom of the 10-team points table. Their latest defeat came on the same day. While CSK lost to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the afternoon clash, Rohit Sharma’s men were thoroughly outclassed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who clinched the tie with seven wickets in hand. View this post on Instagram With this defeat, MI and CSK are now the only teams who haven’t won any matches in the IPL 2022 and are yet to open their account. As far as their table position is concerned, CSK who have an inferior net run-rate are rock bottom while MI are just above them. Had they performed this poorly in any other season, they would have faced immense criticism from fans and pundits alike. But for some reason, this year nobody seems to care. And the reason is simple. Fans are not that frustrated because both CSK and MI have performed equally bad and are giving each other company in the bottom half of the points table. Being the two most successful sides in the competition, it’s no surprise that there is a huge rivalry between Mumbai and Chennai. Whenever these two sides go up against each other, the contest is marketed as the biggest game of the season – the ‘El Clasico’ of IPL. Some fans have even started joking that they are eagerly waiting for that high-voltage clash between MI and CSK but for a different reason. Till last year, the contest would give the winning team the bragging rights but this year, given their dismal situation, it could help them collect their first couple of points. It would have been really hard if CSK was alone. — Johns. 4. Gautam Gambhir, the former India batter and opener, remembered being suspended from school for two months after a confrontation with a rival cricket team and how an irresponsible ‘shoe fight’ led to a headmaster being left in tears. The southpaw told the story of how a dispute with a rival cricket team resulted in him being suspended for two months during his senior year in high school. Due to the incident, Gambhir's 'prefect' badge was also taken away from him, and he was only permitted to sit for the board exams, as narrated by the cricketer on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube show Over and Out. View this post on Instagram Gambhir admitted that he was involved in numerous fights in school. He was suspended for two months in the 12th standard, when every youngster wants to go to school, attend the last days, and he was also playing Ranji Trophy. After that, he appeared for the board exams right away. His prefect badge was also removed. Gambhir and his team had travelled to Mayo College to compete in the ITSC event, and we got into an altercation with DPS. The New Delhi lad also mentioned another incident in which a shoe battle nearly destroyed a great portrait at the 'Oman House,' which he later regretted. After seeing the photo, the headmaster of Oman House, who had gotten it from Oman, was in tears, according to the former India opening batsman. View this post on Instagram His team and he were staying in Oman House, according to the former Kolkata Knight Riders captain. The man whose name was given to the house had brought from Oman a big portrait with a massive frame. Everyone started having a "shoe fight with spikes" late at night, like a bunch of careless kids, and it spoiled the picture. That House's headmaster started crying. Gambhir's fury and aggression would go on to become essential aspects of his success as an Indian cricketer in the future, as fate would have it for the young and notorious cricketer. Making his debut for Team India in April 2003, the hot-headed cricketer declared his retirement from cricket in all formats in 2018. Gambhir played in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20Is during his playing career, scoring over 10,000 runs in all three forms. View the full article
  5. We Indians are obsessed with the English language. Call it the influence of the West or a parting gift from our colonisers, the British (or Britishers, as said in ‘Indian English’), we love to walk and talk in English even if it’s incorrect, wrong or broken. © Red Chillies Entertainment Well, we are still learning. However, we are so used to saying some terms and phrases in day to day life that now, they just seem right and legit to us. Recently, a Reddit thread discussing common English mistakes that Indians make made us realise how our English completely sounds sensible and correct even when it’s not. © Colour Yellow Productions The OP wrote, “Because some sentences might sound correct, but it's not. And some sentences are technically right but they sound funny. i.e Hindi speakers often literally translate "Main aisa/aisi hi hun" as "I am like that only" Or "Tu pagal hai kya ?" as "Are you mad or what ?" these sentences are technically correct, but damn... sound so basic convent school kids' English.” © Dharma Productions Here are some phrases or words that we Indians mess up without realising and it’s hilarious how they still make sense: 1. “What Man? (equivalent to KYA BE/Bhai). What Sir? (More formal variant of the same)” –Vapourhands 2. “Noticed lots of people end the sentence with "only". Example - P1- "You should do it this way" P2- "yeah, I have done it this way only" This is so common that even I started using this!!” –kj_venom11 3. “In a recent Instagram post, Parthiv Patel (Indian cricketer) posted the following - "Happy Anniversary @wife, may you continue to take my load forever" I hope the post was deleted or updated, was appalled when I read this post .” –atulshanbhag © Viacom 18 Motion Pictures 4. "Slowly slowly" is good example. No one uses this except us. –philosophucker88 5. “Referring to a wedding as 'marriage'.” –faahqueimmanutjawb “I swear, our head professor got so triggered when a classmate, once said that he "went to [his] cousin's marriage". Our professor spent the next half-an-hour elucidating on the difference between "wedding" and "marriage"; and the correct use of both. Lol –cherrybombvag 6. “Over usage of “basically” “Basically my name is Sara” “I am basically a computer science student” I will basically slap you in the face. (Sorry for the aggressiveness, I read and evaluate letters from the students to department at Uni im so tired lmao)” –SLakshmi357 7. “Give exam - incorrect Take exam - correct” –medguy_15 © ALT Entertainment Well, we basically use wrong English every day but we make it work only. While Advani did attend a screening of The Kashmir Files, the video that is currently doing the rounds on the internet is from the screening of Shikara. Interestingly, Shikara, produced and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, is based on the love story of a Kashmiri Pandit couple at the peak of insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. It was released in 2020. Back then, the now-viral video was posted on the official social media accounts of Vidhu Vinod Chopra films, describing how the senior leader was in tears after watching it. 8. Ask anyone and you'll know that growing up, Salma Hayek was one Hollywood actress who had quite the *** appeal. Be it her acting in movies or just her exceptionally good looks, Salma really developed a crazy fan following from her American and Mexican movies. It was really in the 90s and the 2000s when she truly made a name for herself having worked in films like Traffic (2000), Frida (2002), and Midaq Valley (1995). © Apple TV She also starred in popular Hollywood films like the Spy Kids Franchise and others, thereby enhancing her status as a top actor. However, one film that really stood out for many of her fans was her 1995 film, Desperado. The film starring Salma and Antonio Banderas revolved around the story of a musician, El Mariachi (Banderas), who goes out to take revenge on a drug lord who killed his lover. © Netflix The movie was quite a success at the box office grossing around $58 million worldwide and was Salma's breakout role. One particular feature in the movie revolved around the *** scenes between Antonio and Salma's characters. © Netflix However, while the scenes played out very well and seemed romantic and full of passion in the film, the reality was pretty far from that. Salma, in an interview, revealed how she was scared of doing the *** scenes in the film. Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast, Salma said, "One of the things that I was afraid of was Antonio. Because he's an absolute gentleman, super nice and we are still very close friends, but he was very free." "It was scary because for him it was nothing and that scared me because I've never been in front of someone like that. In that situation, I started crying. 'Oh my God, you're making me feel terrible.' I was so embarrassed I was crying. I was not letting go of the towel, and they would try to make me laugh. I started crying again but we got through it." However, Salma revealed that the whole cast and crew made were very supportive throughout the film. "They were amazing though, they were amazing. We did the best with what we could do at the time," she said. "They were so magnificent, this group of people. He [actor Robert Rodriguez] never put pressure on me." 9. My brother and I, even though always at each other’s throat, ready to hurl insults at each other, even in sleep if we were asked to, love each other more than we love anyone. But I guess, that is the kind of a bond that siblings usually have, they’re tied to by blood and a bond that is hard to shake off. Even after 74 long years... We are talking about the two brothers who were torn and kept apart from each other for 74 years due to the partition and only recently found their way to each other. ‘Kartarpur - the abode blissful’ has reunited two octogenarian brothers from across the border of Punjab after 74 years. Muhammad Siddique held his elder brother Habib in his arms, as tears gushed down both their faces, in a visual that was as emotional as the moment of embrace. The video that was captured is now making rounds on social media and going viral for all the right reasons. After a long time, I watched something that really made me a little emotional. Two brothers, one from India's Punjab and the other from Pakistan's Punjab, met in Kartarpur 74 years after they were separated. pic.twitter.com/AIlfPpDEPy — Roohan Ahmed (@Roohan_Ahmed) January 12, 2022 Back in 1947, Siddique’s mother had gone to Pakistan with Habib to meet her parents and after only two days, the partition happened. Siddique kept waiting for his mother and brother but neither of them returned. However, the long wait finally ended as their meeting was arranged by an NGO called "Punjabi Parchar". Several people and torn-apart relatives have been united through this corridor and it is but a heartwarming sight to behold during such bleak times. View the full article

  11. Superstar Rajinikanth is one of the most celebrated and sought after actors in South cinema who every director wants to work with. However, he is also one of the humblest and down-to-earth stars. The actor recently talked about his latest film Annaatthe and how it came to life. © Rajinikanth “When Siva met me, he said it was easy to make a hit film with me. It left me stunned, because nobody had said that to me before. He said that I should star in a story-based film and that it should be set in a village,” he said talking about his meeting with Annaatthe director Siva. © Sun Pictures He gave him 15 days to come up with a good script for him and Siva obliged. He said, “In 12 days, he came with the script. He told me he needs two and a half hours of my time and three bottles of water.” He further said that after hearing the script of Annaatthe, he cried and hugged Siva. “At the end of the narration, I started crying, and I hugged him,” he added. © Sun Pictures The actor was impressed with the director’s previous work in the film Viswasam which was released at the same time as his film Petta did. Both films did well and Rajinikanath expressed his interest in watching Viswasam. © Sun Pictures He said, “Petta showed me in a stylish avatar, and it was released alongside Viswasam. Both the films were super hits at the box-office. When I was keen on watching Viswasam, its producer arranged a special screening for me. I liked the film till the interval, but it still amazed me how it turned out to be a huge success. It was in the climax that I understood why it was so successful, and I started clapping.” © Sun Pictures It was then that Rajinikanth met Siva and Annaatthe was conceptualised keeping the tamil star in mind. In the film, Rajinikanth plays a village president who believes in doing good. 12. With just four days left for Virat Kohli’s final assignment as the T20I captain of the Indian cricket team, a BCCI official has confirmed that vice-captain Rohit Sharma will be assuming the role and responsibilities at the end of the T20 World Cup 2021. “It’s no secret who is going to take over. Rohit Sharma has been in the leadership group and will take over from Virat after T20 World Cup. An official announcement will be made after the World Cup,” the BCCI source told InsideSport on Tuesday. BCCI official (in InsideSport) said "Rohit Sharma will be the captain of T20 format after the World Cup, announcement will be made after the mega event". — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) October 20, 2021 Last month, Kohli had announced his resignation from the T20I captaincy following the World Cup citing workload management as a crucial reason. He wished to continue to work on his skills as a batter and hopefully bring back his supernatural form in the coming months. “I’ve decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October… Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all three formats and captaining regularly for the last five to six years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian team in Test and ODI cricket,”- Kohli said in a statement on his Twitter page. View this post on Instagram Ever since his announcement, it was speculated that Sharma would definitely be the one to take command of the team. It is also being speculated after a brief period of time, Kohli will also give up his role as the Indian captain in One-Day Internationals. However, as human beings, forgetting our own petty differences for the good of all mankind is a characteristic that both sides need to nurture and put in a lot of work in. View the full article
  14. Falling on the wrong end of the results after a closely-contested clash is perhaps the worst feeling an athlete can experience, and the Indian women’s hockey team players went through the same emotions after they came up short in their bronze medal match against Great Britain at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Every player on the Indian team wanted to end their historic Olympic campaign with a bronze medal but their hard work couldn’t yield the desired result and they broke down completely after the final hooter. The visuals of the players shedding tears in the stadium melted every Indian supporters’ heart, including that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. © Reuters After their match, PM Modi made a phone call to the Indian women in Tokyo and conveyed that the entire country was proud of their campaign and they shouldn't be disappointed with the loss because they were able to accomplish so much in the last few days that their predecessors couldn’t. Heart breaks for @ImRaniRampal & team. You can see it in their faces here as they get a call from PM Modi. You all have worked so hard for the last 5-6 years and each one of you lived and breathed hockey, leaving everything behind. Your sweat didn't fetch you a medal but your hard work has become an inspiration for millions of young girls in the country. I congratulate all the players, support staff and the coach and you all shouldn’t be disappointed,” PM Modi told the players over the phone. © Reuters Hearing PM Modi’s motivational words made the players even more emotional and many of them couldn’t hold back their tears and broke down while the call was on. What followed was the genuine care that PM Modi showed towards the women’s team and people loved how he consoled the players and tried to help them deal with the result of the match by highlighting the positive outcome of their campaign, including how it revived the sport in the country, which used to be India’s identity at one point in time. © Reuters Another instance that highlighted PM Modi’s genuine affection for the players was when he enquired about the injury that Navneet Kaur suffered in the previous game and how shocked he looked after being told that she received four stitches in her eye. “You all should stop crying. I can hear you all crying. The whole country is proud of you. There is no reason for you to be disappointed. Hockey, which once used to resonate with the Indian identity, has been given a new life after so many decades, just because of your sheer hard work and performances,” he added. 16. Some people cry easily while watching an emotional scene in a movie, like the hero reuniting with his long-lost brother or finally getting the girl in the end, while some are like Chandler Bing who can’t get themselves to shed a tear over a fictional scene. Although not every sad movie has the potential to make you weep like a child, there are some that have done a great job in evoking emotions even in the most apathetic of people. © Aamir Khan Productions We have listed down some Bollywood movies that moved us to tears with just one really, really heart-wrenching scene. We are sure even you have bawled your eyes out watching these 5 tear-jerking scenes, whether or not you are a crier. If you haven’t, you are probably dead inside. © Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures Take a look at 5 extremely emotional movie moments that can make even grown men cry like a baby: 1. When Somu Tried To Remind Reshmi Of Him (Sadma, 1983) © N C Sippy This was the moment when we wanted to pull our hearts out because we couldn't bear to see Somu desperately trying to get Reshmi’s attention. He took care of her when she was mentally regressed due to an accident. But when she is recovered, she forgets about him. Somu, covered in mud, dances like a monkey (which made her laugh before) to remind her but she thinks he was some crazy beggar. 2. Ishaan Being Sent To Hostel (Taare Zameen Par, 2007) © Aamir Khan Productions I have never met anyone who hasn’t cried their eyes out watching Ishaan’s family leaving him in the boarding school. He sees his parents drive away as he is left behind in a strange place. He is scared, sad and all alone. The song ‘Tujhe Sab Hai Pata, Haina Maa’ and his mom helplessly crying made it even more heart-wrenching. 3. Deepak Finding Shaalu’s Dead Body (Masaan, 2015) © Drishyam Films When Deepak said “saala yeh dukh kaahe khatam nahi hota be,” we just wanted to lend our shoulder to him and let him bawl. He found out that his girlfriend had died in a bus accident by finding her dead body in a crematorium his family worked in. Although the scene has turned into a meme material lately because of the famous dialogue, it does bring tears to our eyes every time we watch the movie. 4. The Dog Visiting The Grave Of His Master (Teri Meherbaniyan, 1985) © BMB Productions The dog in this movie was a star and the epitome of loyalty. He visits the grave of his master yearning for him to return and even avenges his death by killing his murderers. The bond between Moti and his master Ram and his loyalty brings tears to our eyes. This was even more saddening for pet parents because after watching this movie, we just wanted to hug our furry friends. 5. The Gang Getting Killed (Rang De Basanti, 2006) © Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures Not every movie has a happy ending, but we weren’t prepared for the tragic deaths of the guys at the end of this movie. The climax still remains one of the most upsetting scenes in the history of Bollywood and reflects on the reality of the system. It was Sharman Joshi’s ‘Sukhi’ dying unmarried that hurt us the most though. View the full article
  17. The fact that food dominates every single area of our lives as Indians (or Asians, if you want me to be more apt here) irrespective of the region we live in or the language we speak, is a no-brainer. I recently lost two of my family members to COVID, and while saying goodbye to them, I had to eat whatever they loved to eat, for 10 days, as a part of the rituals. If that doesn't count as the biggest reminder to what food means to us, I don't know what does. View the full article
