  1. On 29th April, Australian all-rounder James Faulkner was busy celebrating his 29th birthday when his social media post sparked a massive uproar amongst fans. The Aussie cricketer shared a picture of himself in the company of his mother Roslyn Carol Faulkner and "boyfriend" Rob Judd on social media. Birthday dinner with the boyfriend @robjubb and my mother roslyn_carol_faulknerâ¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸ #togetherfor5yearshttps://t.co/n9hJYTepX0 — James Faulkner (@JamesFaulkner44) April 29, 2019 Taking to Twitter, Faulkner shared the picture with the caption: "Birthday dinner with the boyfriend @robjubb and my mother roslyn_carol_faulkner". As soon as his post surfaced, cricket fans poured in their wishes and lauded the Oz star for his courage to come out on social media. His teammates also joined the chorus while wishing him a 'Happy Birthday'. Commenting on his post, Glenn Maxwell wrote: "Happy birthday mate! Great courage". On the other hand, Shaun Tait, too, replied: "Great courage mate, bet u feel better". However, Faulkner's post wasn't what everyone interpreted it to be, and he was definitely not revealing that he was in a same-*** relationship. View this post on Instagram There seems to be a misunderstanding about my post from last night, I am not gay, however it has been fantastic to see the support from and for the LBGT community. Let's never forget love is love, however @robjubbsta is just a great friend. Last night marked five years of being house mates! Good on everyone for being so supportive. A post shared by James Faulkner (@jfaulkner44) on Apr 29, 2019 at 5:07pm PDT In a subsequent post on 30th April, Faulkner clarified: "There seems to be a misunderstanding about my post from last night, I am not gay, however, it has been fantastic to see the support from and for the LBGT community. Let's never forget love is love, however, @robjubbsta is just a great friend. Last night marked five years of being housemates! Good on everyone for being so supportive". But, unfortunately, Faulkner's explanation came a tad too late. His clarification post wasn't received well by some fans, especially the LGBT community. "Yeah, I don't think you're getting support from the LGBT community from this, pal. We're not a joke. Struggled to be taken seriously (let alone acknowledged legally) for years. "Gay lol" is pretty infantile from an elite athlete wearing the national colours," commented blakeerickson. "Disappointing that you & your cricketing mates can make a joke out of what is a struggle for many..Next time you post a 'joke' try to make it funny and not an insult to a community," wrote themikeycole. © Instagram/@jfaulkner44 "Highlights how behind cricket Australia is and the culture surrounding sports at the moment. It may have been a facetious post but there are a large number of men in sports that have been and continue to be ostracised and ridiculed for their sexual orientation. To use that as a joke is definitely not a hate crime but is in poor taste a few news outlets, which may not be credible but have a huge impressionable audience broke the headline "Australias first openly gay cricket player", it's a shame that something considered groundbreaking and significant was due to some guys having an inside joke. As someone in the public eye and a role model to young men, you should take accountability and also highlight the problems surrounding your sport and the issues the LGBTQI community face. Not just brush it off as a post taken out of context," said goodgrlmimi_. "Can I just say in response that I am so pleased and happy for you that the relationships and marriages we had fought for so hard, and for so long, provide you with such a fun punchline for your social media," commented stephensander. "Did you miss the homophobia rampant in the comments? I went to that post thinking 'Shit, I don't know of any professional cricketers in this hemisphere who are like me!" It was one of those moments when the feeling of otherness goes away. And then the homophobia hit me. And then it was just a joke. Just banter. Mate, I get it was an unintended consequence of a personal in-joke. But when you chuck it on a public platform, invite the bigots to express their disgust over a sexual orientation you don't even have? It's pretty bloody painful for those of us who have to live with that every day," wrote jackremiel. © Instagram/@jfaulkner44 "Then why didn't you write best mate instead of boyfriend?," wrote r.gregor17. "Why would you joke about that...?," said reecey1988. "It's a shame you think it's okay to mock GLBTIQ relationships. I have removed my "like". Young people who are struggling with their sexuality might have seen hope and support in your post. It's not a joke. You're the joke. Your mother must be so proud," wrote thebassetthound_au. "Completely understand that you did not intend to cause any harm. However, your post is an example of the "ladsy" sporting culture that needs to be eradicated so players can authentically be themselves. The post made a mockery of any closeted gay/bi athlete, thereby mocking the LGBTIQ community. It's 2019. Ignorance is no longer an excuse," wrote gagagreene. "Very disappointed. How can you really be that clueless that you "coming out" on social media is not going to be treated like a big moment? The LGBTQ community continues to struggle with mental health, with family and so many other things. This is not something to joke about. I hope you have learned a valuable lesson from this major screw up," said lpfpod. © Instagram/@jfaulkner44 "Wouldn't call it a misunderstanding. It was a poor joke," wrote laurenfarrell17. "You are an absolute cretin mate, taking the piss like that and now that grovelling back tracking post. No wonder barely any pro athletes have the nerve to come out. Sexuality is never a laugh," wrote another Instagram user. The backlash on social media, later, prompted Cricket Australia (CA) to intervene and release a statement. The Australian cricket board claimed that Faulkner's post was a misguided attempt at humour. "Cricket Australia does not consider the social commentary this morning from James Faulkner to be a joke, nor does James," the CA statement said. "His comment was made as a genuine reflection of his relationship with his business partner, best friend and house mate of five years. He was not contacted for clarification before some outlets reported his Instagram post as an announcement of a homosexual relationship," it added. "James and CA are supportive of the LGBQTI community and recognises coming out can be an incredibly emotional time. The post was not in any way meant to make light of this and, though the support from the community was overwhelming and positive. Cricket Australia apologises for any unintended offence," CA concluded.
  2. On the morning of 29th April 2019, Australia's renowned all-rounder cricketer James Faulkner uploaded an image from his Instagram profile on the occasion of his birthday. © Instagram - James Faulkner In his caption, the Aussie wrote: “Birthday dinner with the boyfriend @robjubbsta and my mother @roslyn_carol_faulkner... #togetherfor5years” As soon as the image was made public, the world took to Instagram, Twitter and the rest of social media in congratulating the former international cricketer for 'coming out', taking this post as Faulkner's way of opening up about his homosexuality. The former international-level cricketer was even greeted by ex-teammates for 'gathering enough courage' to finally let the world know about his sexual orientation. While all-rounder Glenn Maxwell commented: “Happy birthday mate! Great courage,” Australian rules footballer, Dale Thomas wrote: “Well done brother, so happy for you both.” By the time the sun set Down Under, Faulkner realised that his post had sent out a wrong message to his followers on the internet and he felt the need to clarify that he was not gay and that the 'boyfriend' post was a “joke” that was “taken out of context”, as reported by Cricket Australia (CA) last night. In statements released by both, CA and the cricketer, it was clarified that the “boyfriend”, Rob Jubb, was, in fact, a long-time best friend-turned-business partner of Faulkner's and that was the only relationship they shared. The athlete, who turned 29 yesterday, uploaded another picture from his Instagram profile, clarifying all the misunderstanding: View this post on Instagram There seems to be a misunderstanding about my post from last night, I am not gay, however it has been fantastic to see the support from and for the LBGT community. 3. Powerbeats Pros is now official and was announced recently by Apple and will be the company's other true wireless earbuds. The new earbuds are said to have a better fit and sound quality when compared to the AirPods. The earbuds will be available this May; however, the new earbuds have already been spotted in the wild. © Twitter/Complex Lebron James was spotted sporting the new Powerbeats Pro at an event in Los Angeles. The picture was taken by Adam Pantozzi, a photographer based in Los Angeles. Apple has been known for giving out some of their products to athletes for better visibility. The Cupertino giant followed a similar strategy during the FIFA World Cup as many athletes were pictured sporting AirPods and Beats headphones. What's cool is that the company won the brand wars during the world cup without ever shelling out a single penny. You can read all about how Apple won the brand wars during the World Cup here. We can already see Apple following a similar strategy with the Powerbeats Pro as the wireless earbuds are targeted towards athletes and fitness enthusiasts. If you want to know more about Powerbeats Pro you can read all about it here. © Apple The Powerbeats Pro is expected to last longer than before and comes with Apple's new H1 chip that can also be found on the new AirPods. The H1 Chip enables the new AirPods to fire up Siri by simply saying the command “Hey Siri”. The better fitting design is also supposed to reduce sound leakage which has been a known issue with AirPods. The Powebeats Pro is expected to last for up to nine hours or up to 24 hours of playback time with the charging case. The charging case also has a fast-charging feature that can give the earbuds an additional 1.5 hours of usage after five minutes of charge.
  4. People have been having some mixed reactions about the infamous 'mankading' incident that took place between the Indian Premier League and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur last week. Ravi Ashwin's Mankad garnered widespread condemnation from the cricket world. But there's another key side to the debate. MORE: https://t.co/OHfU7KCorD pic.twitter.com/U35w475JYS — Fox Cricket (@FoxCricket) March 26, 2019 When KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin went in to bowl in the 14th over of the game, he turned around half way through his routine, walked up to the wicket of the non-striker's' end and knocked the bails right followed by a cold appeal to dismiss in-form English batsman, Jos Buttler. After taking some time to realise what had happened, the umpire asked for the appeal to go upstairs where after reviewing the footage, the third umpire found out that Buttler was indeed out of crease and Ashwin's appeal was justified. Not taking long thereafter, the big screen displayed a decision in favour of the Indian allrounder and asked an agitated Buttler to leave the field. The incident caused a major riot on social media with people abusing and praising the Indian cricketer for his decision to 'mankad' the Englishman. The situation got a lot more heat especially when two of the more renowned names of the game, Shane Warne and Harsha Bhogle got into a fierce Twitter feud. “No real argument on that and it was pretty instinctive. I didn't even load and he just left the crease. We ended on the right side of the coin, but I definitely think that those are game-changing moments and batsmen need to be wary of it,” Ashwin had told Harsha Bhogle after the game. Reacting on the incident that took him out of the game in a rather unique fashion, Buttler said: "At the time, I was really disappointed with it. I didn't like the style of it," as reported by Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper. "What was more disappointing is that suddenly over the next two games I found myself being really conscious of it and it is quite distracting." The 28-year-old has also appealed to the officials to put up a proper structure of the concept of 'mankading' and put it in the rule books of the game. Buttler told ESPNcricinfo: "Of course, a 'Mankading' has to be in the laws of the game, because a batsman can't just run halfway down the pitch trying to get a head start." "But I do think, the way the law is written, there is a bit of a grey area in that saying 'when a bowler is expected to release the ball'. That is a bit of a wishy-washy statement." Following Buttler's relieve of frustration, his English teammate James Anderson was seen sharing his thoughts about Ashwin and his 'mankading' in a video: EXCLUSIVE: @jimmy9 give us his unique take on @josbuttler's controversial run out last week... More rows should be settled like this. Full story on this week's #Tailenders https://t.co/YOQ4PMSwiu pic.twitter.com/hYCPpdSqJm — Greg James (@gregjames) March 31, 2019 In the video uploaded by the English Radio DJ, and television presenter, Greg James, Anderson can be seen shredding a picture of the player in his Indian kit as a response to Ashwin's move. After watching the video, the Indian cricketer did not hesitate in responding. He said: “Today Jimmy Anderson might feel that whatever I did was wrong. Maybe, tomorrow he might end up doing it [a 'Mankad']. Who knows? It is a question of perception of right and wrong. I don't think in this case it is necessary because it is in the law and I did.” “Everybody who knows me, it is very clear (to them) that I don't do anything that is illegal.”
  5. Just a few months ago, Disney fired James Gunn, the director of both the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movies, and that too very famously, might I add. It was all because of a bunch of problematic tweets by the director and despite the outpouring support from fans and the cast of GOTG, Disney stayed firm in their decision. But, that was months ago and so much can happen in that time. Well, he got rehired. Today, James Gunn tweeted a message thanking everyone for all the support they have shown for him. â¤ï¸ pic.twitter.com/gdMQjlqIjs — James Gunn (@JamesGunn) March 15, 2019 While a lot of people are happy that he's back to direct the third GOTG movie, a lot of people have also shown their disapproval of Disney basically backtracking. People are divided over this development and a lot of them are calling out Disney for just waiting for the controversy to die down so they could hire him again. They did lie, tho. disney explicitly saying that they were not going to rehire james gunn but then just waiting a few months for the whole situation to die down is so disgusting — saz (@syndullatano) March 15, 2019 The jokes were not okay. even if they were just 'jokes' (which it's much more than that anyway) this behaviour is what leads to the normalisation of these awful things happening in real life and someone like james gunn shouldn't be given a platform like that in any circumstance — saz (@syndullatano) March 15, 2019 Some people are willing to give him a second chance. I'm not exactly a fan of James Gunn's movies or their messages. And making jokes about sexual abuse is harmful because it contributes to rape culture. However, it's imperative we allow people space to grow and change! It appears Gunn has sincerely learned from his past mistakes. https://t.co/dh8iIBsPbL — Jonathan McIntosh (@radicalbytes) March 15, 2019 Do people change so easily? Disney re-hires James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy 3! The controversy was real (and understandable IMO) but I agree there needs to be a way for "redemption" for people like Gunn who have shown remorse and proven over *years* they are not the person those tweets were painting. https://t.co/3UnFLHJLYo — Patrick Beja (@NotPatrick) March 15, 2019 But, is an apology enough? I am incredibly happy about this. Gunn said some Fucked up shit. He was also taken to task about it during GotG vol 1 and apologized. I am cool with punishing people for shit. I HATE double jeopardy. Glad to see this. https://t.co/JNcQ9FLzvx — Ben ðð ðð¦ (@BeninBiloxi) March 15, 2019 Okay, then. I understand if you don't like this and disagree. Trust me I get it. I'm not gonna become a James Gunn stan account but yes I do believe what he said is forgivable. If it ever turns out he really has ever hurt children I'll pour the gasoline FOR you and light the match. — Ben ðð ðð¦ (@BeninBiloxi) March 15, 2019 Let's hope so. this whole situation is very complicated because he wasn't a teenager talking shit on the internet, he was a grown man... but he also apologized more than once. also, the cast is so loyal to him, it makes me think he indeed changed and is a better, decent human being + — ananda (@pilotdanvers) March 15, 2019 Yes, it is. it just feels cheap of marvel/disney dismissing him and then rehiring him less than a year later and even accepting his terms of directing ss2 first... like? much to think about — ananda (@pilotdanvers) March 15, 2019 Dave Bautista would be happy. A lot of us stood by #JamesGunn when all this shit went down. The whole cast stood by him, but no one, not one person, did so more than @DaveBautista who I hope feels vindicated tonight. Watching him stand by his friend was incredibly touching. And now we all get GotG vol.3! — Dantooine (@Danburden1138) March 15, 2019 Quite possible. James Gunn is back on Guardians 3. Bautista must've been standing outside Bob Iger's house like pic.twitter.com/JSTDTa3HmZ — Issa Deadman (@CPerry404) March 15, 2019 Well. The #RehireJamesGunn worked, even though Disney confirmed it like 3 times in a row that that wouldn't happen. I even told some people online that it wasn't worth it. So if that can happen, #ReleaseTheSnyderCut @wbpictures @WBHomeEnt !!!!! — Leonardo Oliveira (@Leo_Rafael99) March 15, 2019 Everyone's happy, I guess. The best thing about this story, besides him getting a second chance, is that he's still going to do both films. https://t.co/zjnDNtTps1 — Mike (Insert Game Here) (@mpallard329) March 15, 2019
  6. Throughout his 15-plus seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Lebron James has been considered to be one of the most 'Non-Tradable' basketball players. Every year, each and every NBA franchise wishes to bring the King to their home court and every fan dreams of watching him play in the league wearing their city's colours. His basketball IQ and ability to make the players around him better has made James quickly climb the success ladder in the highly competitive league and his unbelievably well-maintained physical condition has allowed him to remain on top for the better half of the decade. Ironically, his greatness has also become the biggest bane of his future endeavours in the league. In an era of super-teams when gifted athletes like Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Demarcus Cousins join hands to come up with the practically undefeatable Golden State Warriors, Lebron's image as the best player in the world has somehow restricted other stars of the game to combine forces with him because of the fear of losing out their legacy under the shadows of someone who is fighting a battle with the ghost of Michael Jordan. This might as well be the reason why the thought of trading Lebron James himself during the league's trade season for a younger star-athlete of the game like Anthony Davis came to the mind of President of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jeanie Buss. © Reuters According to a Bleacher Report report, another theory is that Buss wanted to trade James in order to cut ties with his agent Rich Paul, who, she believed, was the man behind leaking the details of Anthony Davis' trade request to the New Orleans Pelicans. While it sounds outrageous to trade the team's best player based on a grudge with his agent, the Lakers would be foolish to not consider trading an aging Lebron James (who will be 35 years old by the time the next season begins) if they happen to strike a deal with some (maybe the Pelicans) who could offer a younger but similar talent in return. The league seems to come to a complete halt every time there are talks of Lebron James switching team. It is highly likely that the basketball world would freeze once again come off-season when the Lakers try to bring in more talent in hopes of becoming a title contender.
  7. Over the years, the Indian cricket team has seen numerous sides of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. His leadership skills saw Team India scaling new heights in international cricket. His batting prowess earned him the reputation of world's best finisher. His unorthodox wicket-keeping skills made him a nemesis for opposition batsmen from behind the stumps. Whenever the former Indian captain features for his side and comes out on the field, everyone, from commentators, pundits to fans, knows that something spectacular is just around the corner. If he misses out in one of the facets of the game, Dhoni makes sure he makes up for it in another. Such has been this man's reputation in the Indian team that his know-how of the game has allowed him to still take calls on the field (from DRS to placing the fielders) despite stepping down as captain. Dhoni's presence of mind was once again in full display during India's clash against New Zealand in the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) at the Westpac stadium in Wellington. Returning to the side after missing the fourth ODI, Dhoni was expected to bolster the middle-order in crisis situation - a new role where he has thrived lately. AP But, contrary to popular perception, Dhoni was bowled for a mere one run by Trent Boult's ripper of a delivery. While Dhoni couldn't do much with the willow, as Ambati Rayudu (90), Vijay Shankar (45) and Hardik Pandya (45) stepped up for India, the Jharkhand cricketer made up for it with his own unique way of wicket-keeping. It was the 37th over of the New Zealand's run-chase when James Neesham (44) went for a sweep shot and missed the line of Kedar Jadhav's loopy delivery. Hitting the pads, the ball tricked down the leg-side as Dhoni let out a loud appeal (for an LBW) which was soon backed by his teammates. Cleaver run-out of James Neesham by MS Dhoni is the turning point of game. What a great "Presence of Mind"! ð This is why we call #MSDhoni the X-factor of #TeamIndia. Congrats for 4-1 series victory. Mohammed Shami is the best bowler for India ð pic.twitter.com/2BuiDYmlbh — ARMAN ارÙا٠â®ï¸ (@arman_armu_) February 3, 2019 Watching the Indian cricketers engrossed in appealing, Neesham tried to capitalise by sneaking in a quick single. But, just as the left-hander got out of his crease, Dhoni with a quick reflex, picked the ball and fired it on the stumps. Referred to the third umpire, replays suggested that Dhoni caught Neesham out of the crease when the bails were dislodged. As soon as the decision was revealed on the big screen, Dhoni was congratulated by his teammates for his presence of mind. Later, his insane exploits in effecting Neesham's dismissal got the social media buzzing with cricket fans lauding the former Indian skipper for quick thinking. 8. Lebron James, aka 'The King' has been at the pinnacle of competitive basketball for more than a decade. The 34-year-old continues to show the same level of athleticism and strength as back in 2003, his rookie year. While most of the NBA players of Lebron's age are considered to be 'veterans' assuming the job of a role-player in their teams, James is still one of the leading MVP contenders of the league. The three-time NBA champion has been considered to be one of the greatest ballers in the world and is giving the all-time NBA legend Michael Jordan a run for his money for the 'Best Ever'. Everything the man has achieved, he's achieved through sheer commitment and against the strongest of opponents. Be it the 2012 All-Star-studded Boston Celtics or the 2016 Golden State Warriors, who went 73-9 in regular season, James has been able to outdo all of them. Lebron was nicknamed 'the King of the East' as he won eight consecutive Eastern-conference titles and made it to the NBA Finals every year since 2010, before he moved to the West to join what is probably the most prestigious and celebrated team in the history of the league, the Los Angeles Lakers. View this post on Instagram ð¤ð.. #headbandthoughts A post shared by LeBron James (@kingjames) on Nov 7, 2018 at 8:50am PST What makes Lebron James stand out of the lot is not only his on-court brilliance but the amount of social work he does for the underprivileged and the less fortunate. While other athletes waste their money on expensive cars and unreasonably huge mansions, James realises the power his position in the society actually possesses. “I mean too much to the society, I mean too much to the youth, I mean too much to so many kids who feel like they don't have a way out. I will not just shut up and dribble,” James said in a pre-game interview. He's been using his popularity to reach out to the masses and deal with some of the most adverse socio-political issues of our time. Not shying away from showing his disapproval towards the current US President Donald Trump, James has, time and again, challenged the condescending notions put towards the African-Americans to the best of his abilities. Raised by a single parent and coming from humble beginnings, James understands the importance of education and hard work in life. As a gesture of giving back to his community, the 14-time NBA All-Star opened the 'I Promise' elementary school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio in July this year with a motto that reads, “Nothing is given. Everything is earned,” which echoes his take on life. 9. James Gunn, the celebrated director of the super hit 'Guardian Of The Galaxy' franchise, is facing severe backlash and heat at the moment for something that happened almost a decade ago. The Walt Disney Studio has taken the decision to fire Gunn from the franchise, after some of his old tweets from 2008 and 2009 have resurfaced and sent shockwaves across the globe. © Disney The director apparently had tweeted offensive jokes earlier about rape, pedophilia, the 9/11 attacks and even the Holocaust, which have left everyone disgusted on the social media. #WalkAway pic.twitter.com/cI8BdWxedu — Jack Posobiecðºð¸ (@JackPosobiec) July 20, 2018 Gunn has officially released a statement accepting the decision and has offered an explanation, as well as an apology for the same. The statement reads as follows: “My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don't reflect the person I am today or have been for some time. Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies.”. The social media is abuzz with a lot of mixed opinions over this shocking development. While some feel the decision was obvious because of the nature of the tweets, some are calling it simply 'hypocritical'. James Gunn made awful "jokes" years ago, and eventually grew up & apologised for it. Disney knew this, didn't care & happily hired him Someone starts screaming about it, so Disney happily fired him, not because of his "jokes", but because people were talking about them — Brett Tear (@TearofGrace) July 21, 2018 The problem I have with Disney firing James Gunn is not the reasonn because what he did tweet 10 yrs ago was disgusting. But the fact that they keep Johnny Depp and John Lasseter in their business is hypocritical. Be consistent. At least Gunn didn't beat up or rape anyone. — wth?! (@just_a_walk) July 21, 2018 Meanwhile, Dave Bautista, who plays the character of Drax in the GOTG franchise, has lashed out against this decision and has come out in strong support of Gunn. I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this..@JamesGunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met. He's gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He's made mistakes. We all have. Im NOT ok with what's happening to him — Dave Bautista (@DaveBautista) July 21, 2018 For now, the fate of the next installment of the movie is on hold, while the whole world is still coming to terms with this piece of new information.
