With Marvel singlehandedly stamping their monopoly over the superhero movies market in the recent future, Warner Bros are looking to give DC the best chance to get some of the shares back where it belongs. They are doing just that with the release of the much-anticipated Batman film starring Robert Pattinson. © Warner Bros Now, it has already been reported that the new Batman film, directed by Matt Reeves, will be very different from the previous films. It is said to be a lot darker in terms of the plot and in the context of Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight, who in the previous trailers, has already looked to someone who will beat the life out of his enemies without holding back. Now, Reeves has given us some more interesting information about the film, which is likely to keep you at the edge of your seats, as and when the movie finally gets released. According to Reeves, the new Batman film is 'almost a horror movie'. The movie stars Robert as Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle or Catwoman, and Paul Dano as The Riddler. Now, Reeves has revealed that the character of The Riddler in the film is actually based on the real-life Zodiac killer. © Warner Bros © Tenderfoot TV “The premise of the movie is that the Riddler is kind of moulded in an almost Zodiac Killer sort of mode and is killing very prominent figures in Gotham, and they are the pillars of society. These are supposedly legitimate figures. It begins with the mayor, and then it escalates from there.” said Reeves. Now, for all those who are unfamiliar with who the Zodiac Killer was, it was actually the pseudonym of a serial killer who operated in Northern California, United States in the late 1960s. © Wikipedia The unidentified serial killer was believed to have murdered at least five people in between the period of 1968 and 1969. The Hollywood film Zodiac (2007) starring Marvel movie actors Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, and Jake Gyllenhaal, was one of the movies actually based on the real-life case. © Netflix In Matt Reeves Batman, Paul Dano's The Riddler, who is a serial killer is seen giving nemesis Robert Pattinson's Batman an intricate puzzle to solve in order to save Gotham city and its citizens. “In the wake of the murders, [The Riddler] reveals the ways in which these people were not everything they said they were, and you start to realize there’s some kind of association. And so just like Woodward and Bernstein, you’ve got Gordon and Batman trying to follow the clues to try and make sense of this thing in a classic kind-of-detective story way. “This idea of a place that is corrupt, and you try to swim against the tide in order to fight against it and make a difference, is quintessential Batman. At the centre of those noir stories is almost always the detective, right? And that’s why he is the world’s greatest detective. And so, this story is, in addition to being almost a horror movie, and a thriller, and an action movie, at its core, it’s also very much a detective story. It’s very narrative.” said Reeves. Interestingly, Reeves has also revealed that Robert's Batman is also based on Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain. Very interesting!
