  1. Earlier this week, Facebook and Instagram were out of commission for several hours. Facebook said the outage was a result of a server configuration change, which has now been taken care of. But for those several hours, most of the internet freaked out staring at their blank screens. A lot of people, who genuinely wanted to communicate with others, switched to alternate services like Telegram. But the rest of the people, who didn't really have any alternate medium to waste their time, headed to, wait for it, Pornhub. © Pornhub Yes, that's right. Pornhub seems to have received a lot of traffic during the Facebook and Instagram outage. The porn site reported that its traffic immediately spiked by 11 per cent and kept increasing until it hit 19-percent above the average. Additionally, Pornhub also noted that the users specifically searched for 'Instagram' and 'Facebook'. Apparently, the website registered a 323-percent spike in searches for 'Instagram' and a 221-per cent spike in searches for 'Facebook'. Looks like social media addiction is a real thing. © Twitter On a totally unrelated note (or maybe not), people were also searching for terms like 'tentacle porn' among other terms like WWE, Marvel, and Fortnite. Why would there be a spike in search for these terms when Facebook and Instagram went down? Well, that's not on us to figure out.
  2. We don't watch the Super Bowl here in India - I don't think it's even broadcasted here - but it's one of the biggest sporting events in the USA and somehow, also becomes international news. The highlight of this year's Super Bowl, though, was Adam Levine and his nipples. Yep, his nips. © Twitter But, to understand why that's causing so much backlash, we have to remember a Super Bowl halftime show from a few years ago, 15 years to be exact. The infamous show from 2004 featured Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, and a controversy that is still talked about. During the show, Justin went to remove Janet's corset but accidentally tore off her bra too, exposing her bare breast. What followed was a widespread criticism for Janet Jackson which affected her career tremendously, but Justin Timberlake moved on unscathed. But, the infamous 'Nipplegate' is being talked about again today because well, didn't Adam Levine do the exact same thing, but just intentionally? People are questioning why Janet Jackson's nipples were such a problem when Adam Levine is not being pulled up for the same thing. While offended, people haven't lost their sense of humour and are tweeting sarcastic funny thing. Here's what everyone is saying: Eww, nips. now I have to explain to my children that adam levine has nipples — ziwe (@ziwe) February 4, 2019 Exactly the same. adam levine took off his shirt like an uncle at thanksgiving when kid rock comes on — elijah daniel (@elijahdaniel) February 4, 2019 There were a lot of home decor comparisons as well. Wait a damn minute!! Janet Jackson show's a tiny bit of nipple, and all hell breaks loose. He takes off his shirt and nothing?!! What??!!!! I'm outraged! #Super Bowl #PepsiHalftime — sans Care (@Madjora77) February 4, 2019 It's almost as if it has something to do with sexism. 3. The mention of Diwali evokes glorious images of multi-hued Chinese lights dotting every building in the vicinity, a mixed array of lamps and candles gracing all the flat surfaces along the way, and of course the loaded plateful of sweets and the sparkling new clothes which complete the prep for the celebrations. What? You think I forgot to mention something? Yes, the puja, right? Of course, no Diwali celebration can begin without the blessings of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Laxmi, on this auspicious occasion. What else? You certainly aren't hinting at those loudmouthed elements that wreak havoc on Diwali, are you? © Wikipedia Well, seems like you are talking about the firecrackers after all. Well, given Delhi's current air quality and its inhabitants' constant struggle to take the next breath of air, besides of course the Supreme Court's ban on everything except green crackers, I'd say that petitioning for free-use of firecrackers at this point is a little ill-timed. The national capital is literally choking on its own air even as you read this. The latest CPCB data on Tuesday states that the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 394, which falls in the 'very poor' category, and warning has been put out that the situation will only get worse. Yet, here you are questioning my decision to do away with the mention of firecrackers on a Diwali post, and challenging the wisdom of the SC judges who called for the partial ban and even gave a free pass to bursting of green crackers between 8 pm to 10 pm tomorrow, in the spirit of the celebrations. © Tipping Points Film Anyhow, before you go any further to bash me over my cause to discourage you from bursting crackers, maybe you'd like to know that bursting crackers on Diwali has never been a part of ancient Hindu tradition. It simply happened to be a result of social interactions with China, which were adopted by Indians. Don't believe me? But history has proof. History shows that firecrackers were first invented in China, which made their way to India and other neighbouring countries due to trade movements. Historian P K Gode talks about the existence of gunpowder in 1400 AD and the first evidence of which could be found in the Tang dynasty in his 'History of Fireworks in India between 1400 and 1900'. © Flickr According to Chinese belief system, loud sounds and bright light helps to ward off evil, and therefore it was a popular practice in that part of the world. However, higher price initially prevented commoners from accessing it easily, thus was usually the royals who made use of fireworks for their personal entertainment. Numerous travelogues by ancient travellers validate this fact, as can also be seen in Marathi chronicle text 'Peshwayanchi Bakhar'. But the Chinese belief soon made its way to India and found acceptance as the signifier of victory of good over evil. Thus, people chose to light crackers during Diwali to mark their celebration of Ram and Sita's return from exile, after having defeated the evil Ravana. © Wikipedia Diwali was always meant to be a celebration of lights, the crackers came much later. Apart from deafening sounds and loads of air pollution, is only brings you smog (and a little more closer to your death). So go green this Diwali, it'll help us all in the long run.
  4. Okay, so before you start judging me and think that 'this is the same guy who earlier told us not to use mass gainers', let me make it very clear that I am not promoting extensive use of mass gainers. I am still a firm believer of clean bulking and that it can get you jacked without a lot of fat gain. In this piece though, I will discuss a few situations where you can put your mass gainers to sensible use. So, if you have a mass gainer tub you bought and never used, here are some tips that will help you put them to use, right alongside your diet. Mass Gainers As A Supplement © Thinkstock Images Mass Gainers are simply supplements that help you consume extra calories. This leads to increased daily caloric intake, which is essential for putting on muscle mass. But what usually happens is that dudes consume it way too much and end up getting fat, not muscular. They are generally sold in big sizes like 6lb and 12lb tub with huge per serving sizes that can go up to 250gm per serving. Each scoop can easily fetch more than a thousand calories. The composition is moderately high in protein and very high carbs. The only problem with mass gainers is that they contain more sugar than you actually need. The amount can go up to 20gm of sugar per serving in some products. It is almost like consuming sugar syrup along with your shake. Simply horrendous! How To PROPERLY Use Mass Gainers © Thinkstock Images Like I mentioned above, mass gainers are loaded with calories. So for someone who is looking to gain muscle mass, this can be useful if used mindfully. While Travelling You can use your mass gainer as a complete meal replacement in some situations. A serving of mass gainer has almost, if not less, the nutrition of your 'gaining diet'. So at times, when you know that you are about to miss your diet due to a busy schedule or travelling, you can actually put your mass gainer to use. Just have a serving of mass gainer to complete your macro intake, that's it! This way, you will be able to maintain your required daily caloric surplus with ease. This comes in very handy while travelling especially. © Thinkstock Images Consuming In Smaller Quantities Another wise use of mass gainer is to use it in smaller quantity, instead of the recommended servings. The recommended serving of a mass gainer is generally very high and feeds you around 1200-1500 calories in a single serving. Majority of people would actually feel bloated after consuming such a large number of calories in one go. So instead, use a smaller portion of this recommended serving. Let's say, one-fourth of the recommended serving and add some whey protein to increase its protein content. That way you can consume mass gainers to increase your calorie intake slightly, while not drastically increasing daily calorie intake. 6. If you happen to travel a lot to work every day, I feel you. I am also in the same league as yours. I spend almost 4 plus hours in traffic every day. It gets frustrating when you want to stick to a regular workout and dieting schedule. It seems that all the valuable time was spent stuck in the traffic. Well, it is what it is. The job puts the food on the table and you have to show up. No way around that. Now what you can do are these following things that I have devised over the past 3 years of struggling with travelling for long hours and still getting in the best shape of my life. 1) Always Cook In Advance. Always! Cook all your meals a night before. I do that and it works like a breeze. Wake up, freshen up, pack your meals and you are good to go. No cooking hassles in the morning. If not at night, do it whenever you find the time to do so. But do it a day in advance. This will save you time, energy and mental peace. 2) Leave Home And Work On Time Now this is one of the most crucial aspects. Give your best while you are at work but don't overstay unnecessarily. If the day's work strictly demands your presence, do it. If it doesn't, don't stick around and waste your time small talking to your colleagues. Pointless smoke and coffee breaks won't get you fit. Same applies for showing up at work on time. Try this and you will see an ocean of change in your daily life. © YouTube 3) Stick To Your Diet Like Glue. Office Snacking Can Quickly Add Up Calories Without You Even Realizing Dieting will make or break your health goals. It all boils down to how strictly you diet, even in tough circumstances. Office snacking, a couple of pizza slices, a can of coke, all this will only add up to extra calories. At work, temptations are many but you have got to stay strong. Stick to your daily caloric limit with bare minimum cheats. This will keep you on track and guilt away. 4) Sleep On Time, Almost Every Day I won't stress on how important sleep is, you already know that. Sleeping on time will save time in the morning, kill the feeling of sluggishness at work and make you very, very productive. © YouTube 5) Have A Workout Plan To Follow. Don't Waste Your Time At The Gym Probably the most overlooked thing. Walking around staring at the mirror, small talking with gym monkeys and walking on the treadmill isn't time invested, it's time wasted. Get yourself a training log with all your workouts listed down. Walk in with an aim and walk out satisfied.
  7. Making an account on a website is one of the simplest things out there, as we all do it so often, without facing a problem. But, as it turns out that a lot of us were just taking this simple everyday task for granted and some people don't have that privilege. Are you confused? Let me explain. A woman named Natalie Weiner just wanted to make an account, like all of us do, but she faced a problem we could never even imagine. Her own name is apparently offensive and cannot be used online on that site. Imagine some random website telling you that your name, your whole identification is offensive. That's gotta hurt. But, Ms. Weiner here couldn't help but enjoy this hilariously absurd situation and even called it the 'best thing that has happened to her'. this is without a doubt the best thing that's ever happened to me pic.twitter.com/rnVkmhB2dy — Natalie Weiner (@natalieweiner) August 28, 2018 She soon realized she wasn't alone in this cruel world and had so many people with unfortunate names to give her company. 10. I think it's safe to assume that all of us want to be fit. Whether it's because we want to be the best version of ourselves, because we want to be strong, or because we just want to live a healthier lifestyle, staying fit has - thankfully - become a lifestyle choice that more and more people are adhering to. And while going to the gym is certainly the most effective way of staying in shape, going for a run has its benefits as well. In fact, most people who choose to not go to the gym usually rely on their morning or evening runs to stay fit. But running can often seem like a monotonous route (pun intended!) to take, one that can seem pretty basic and mundane. So with that in mind, here are 5 running tips you should adhere to if you want to make it more fun (and safe!) for you. 1) Use Quality Headphones For Running © Pexels Just like any other workout, listening to music while you go for a run can actually help energise you. As such, owning a quality pair of wireless headphones and listening to your favourite songs is a great way of pumping yourself up during your runs. When searching for the best Bluetooth headphones for running, you should keep an eye out on ones belonging to premium brands (JBL, Boat and Skullcandy come to mind) that offer a good wireless range and optimum battery life. 2) Invest In The Right Shoes © Pexels While it may not involve you having to go to a gym, you shouldn't forget that running is a physical exercise. And just like any physical exercise you do, the risk of injury is always there. As such, investing in the best running shoes is mandatory. There are many factors that you should keep in mind before you purchase a pair of running shoes - your weight, the drop of the shoe (which is basically the difference between the forefoot measurements and the heel) and the cushioning that the shoe will provide you. If you make an informed choice, not only do you make running more fun, but you also ensure that you don't get accidently injured. 3) Switch Things Up A Bit It's not for nothing that people say that variety is the spice of life! As such, you can also mix in some cardio exercises in the middle of your runs to break the monotony and make things more fun. For instance, adding a few jumping jacks, butt kicks, squat jumps and jumping lunges to your run can make things less boring. 4) Take A Walk Or Jog Break © Pexels Nowhere is it written that you should run for 30 minutes straight without taking any breaks whatsoever - after all, you're not Usain Bolt! So it's advisable to take walk/jog breaks while you're running. Not only will doing so ensure that you don't run out of stamina, but it will also help you be gentler on your body. 5) Don't Do It Alone Just like having a gym partner can make working out less mundane, going for your runs with a friend or family member can make them a lot more fun as well. Apart from ensuring that you'll always have a source of motivation right next to you, you can rely on your running partner for some healthy competition as well.
  11. Way before Varun Dhawan stepped into the move biz, his father David Dhawan was re-defining fashion with every movie he directed/produced. Truth be told: 'Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya', 'Jodi No. 1', 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi' were way ahead of their sartorial eras, after all. But this is like starting the conversation in the living room and ending it in the bedroom (of the same house). Because in no time, his son, Varun Dhawan started to give fashion a new meaning through his outings and movies, one outfit at a time (as he became an actor) and even today, is always game for taking his style for a spin, even if it's for just a small apparel detail. From pop-coloured kurtas, PVC jackets, mesh bombers, metallic bottoms to even just a plain, simple graphic T-shirt — Varun has given celebrity menswear a face of its own. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani © Instagram/Akshay Tyagi So well, when he recently uploaded a still from 'Sui Dhaaga' (his upcoming movie) on his Instagram, featuring a perfect summer-shirt (read: linen) with a contrasting placket, we were quick to notice the small detail and bring it onto the pedestal. For a fact, contrasting plackets have been a major part of menswear for a long time, but are hardly given any recognition, really. Or shall we say, importance? ममता à¤à¤° मà¥à¤à¥ सॠमिलनॠà¤à¥ लिठतयà¥à¤¯à¤¾à¤°? 28th September #SuiDhaagaMadeInIndia | @AnushkaSharma | @yrf A post shared by Varun Dhawan (@varundvn) on Jul 24, 2018 at 10:53pm PDT As seen here, Varun's solid pink linen shirt bears a print on the inside of the placket, going all the way up and around the collar. What's to notice, however, is that the print is on the flip side of the shirt and gains visibility only if you open a button or leave your collar button, unbuttoned. However, note: While the contrast on the flip side of the placket on Varun's shirt is quite contrasting, a few shirts also come with a muted approach. Like this one here: © Oliver + S It won't be strange to mention, that this detail is quite prevalent in a lot of polo T-shirts in the market too. Since most of the polo T-shirts worn by men are solid coloured, a contrasting placket gives them a lot of personality. © Paul Smith All we're saying is, the devil really is in the details. And while picking a shirt for any occasion, don't be that devil who doesn't notice the details.
  12. Lucknow is one of the most beautiful cities in India. More than its beauty, it's the cuisine there that rules every foodie's heart. From the delectable Tunday Kebab and Galauti Kebab to the succulent Mutton Rogan Josh, the city of Nawabs is home to some of the delicious and mouth-watering dishes ever made. But now, Lucknow will also be known as the place where Bollywood's legendary Jackie Shroff cleared the jammed roads once as a traffic cop on a busy weekend. © wikimedia For those who aren't aware of Jackie Shroff's upcoming projects, he is currently busy shooting for the Hindi remake of 'Prassthanam'; which also stars Sanjay Dutt, Ali Fazal, Satyajeet Dubey and Amyra Dastur. In fact, last Saturday, the public saw the actors shooting near the Clock Tower. © BCCL (Aditya Yadav) Usually, when we meet or come across a celebrity or an actor, there is someone or something hovering around them. Either it is their over-excited fans, 4 to 5 bulked-up bodyguards or a certain aura around them that makes them appear special. © BCCL (Aditya Yadav) Probably, this is the reason why most of us couldn't come to terms with the fact, that no one could recognize Salman Khan when he was spotted inside a shopping mall in Dubai. © BCCL (Aditya Yadav) Anyway, coming back to our Traffic 'Bhidu' cop, Jackie Shroff is different. He did not have any celebrity-ish (for the lack of a better word) air around him when he got out of his car to help clear a traffic jam on the streets of Lucknow. 13. Right after you wake up from what we call 'bliss for 8 hours', unfortunately, a lot of tasks lie ahead of you. Including, an important grooming and cleansing routine, that'll define your appearance for the rest of the day. But since every thing requires a minute or two (or maybe more), it all comes down to your efficiency and the pace you're working with. Take for example, the process of shampooing your hair. There's just no alternative to it, right? Enter dry shampoos, that are almost like shampooing your hair, but without the hassle of getting wet, foaming it and most importantly — investing a lot of time. Agreed, shampooing your hair doesn't take an hour anyway (unless you have a long, long mop), but it's worth saving a few minutes, man. © MensXP Let's begin with versing you with what we love about dry shampoos. First off, they take 30 seconds to spray (yes, a dry shampoo is literally just a spray bottle). Two, they absorb all the excess oils in your scalp in and well, even reduce the advent of greasy strands through the course of your day (which results in oil trickling down your forehead too). So clearly, dry shampoos are a grooming shortcut you didn't know you could take. Which in reality, is also a very practical option too. © MensXP It wouldn't be unusual to mention, that there's an alternative to dry shampoos too. Known as 'texturing sprays' — something we'd recommend for sure — also come with added incentives, in fact. They leave a much-better fragrance in your hair, makes hair styling easier and also add a hell lot of movement and volume to your strands. But besides replacing your shampoo-regime with a dry shampoo/texture spray, texture powders exist too. Just sprinkle some into your mop, and you'd notice it disappear almost instantly. And while it's indulging in the act of invisibility, it also eats up all the oil/grease from your scalp and hair, leaving you (almost) oil-free. Here's our edit of the best out there: 1. 14. Years from now, when football fans get together to reminisce about the 2018 World Cup, a lot of different adjectives will be used to describe what we've witnessed so far. However, one word which best described this edition of the World Cup is, exhilarating. The 2018 World Cup will forever be remembered as the year of the underdog, as pulsating matches leading to huge upsets became the norm while the underdogs charted their historic runs. Two such teams who had brilliant runs in the World Cup are Belgium, and England. After their heartbreaking losses in their respective semi-finals, they will now look to secure the third spot in the St. Petersburg Stadium. A missed opportunity for Belgium's 'Golden Generation' With Belgium, it can be argued that with the strength and depth in their squad, they were hardly the underdogs heading into the tournament. However, at the start of the World Cup, nearly all experts had predicted that the quartet of France, Spain, Brazil and Germany will make up the semi-finals. While Belgium knocked Brazil out en route to the semi-finals, they eventually lost out to France who are now favourites heading into the finals. In fact, right up till the time they came up against France, Belgium had dominated each of the teams they had come up against. Eden Hazard, the Belgium captain and one of the contenders for the Golden Ball, was at his evasive best as no defence looked like they could stop him. Kevin De Bruyne pulled the strings in midfield, as the defensive trio of Kompany, Vertonghen and Alderweireld were as resilient and reliable as ever. Source: Reuters However, despite all the hysteria they created, Belgium's “Golden Generation” eventually came up short against France. By the time the next World Cup is around, the defensive trio, Kevin De Bruyne, Hazard, and a few other squad members will have touched 30 years of age. An optimist will say this Belgium might have another realistic shot at the world's biggest stage, but a realist will hold back on any such claims. As the Belgian fans lament their best chance gone by, they will now seek salvation by achieving the third place in Russia. England are an opponent they've already beaten in this tournament, and despite England's heroics in this World Cup, they should prove no match for a Belgian side which is significantly superior. It might not be coming home but pride is Meanwhile, the English are not renowned for doing things quietly. As the English team fell short against Croatia, the English fans and pundits who loudly proclaimed “It's Coming Home”, were made to eat their words. However, despite the embarrassment, most English fans are not complaining. Not even in their wildest dreams did the English fans imagine that they'd reach the semi-finals with a side that enthused no confidence at the start of the tournament. From Kieran Trippier's crosses and set pieces, to Jordan Henderson's tireless running, the English have surprised all. Thanks to his teammates' industry, the English captain Harry Kane is now on his way to winning the Golden Boot. Source: Reuters Surely, England were “lucky” with their draw in the tournament, not even their most ardent fans could comfortably say that they would beat Colombia and Sweden in the manner that they did. After a tournament of massive overachievement, England will look to go back home with pride by securing third place. However, it can't be denied that England will be the underdogs going into the third place playoff. England has the second most inexperienced squad at this year's World Cup, while the Belgian squad is full of world beating veterans which might be enough to see the Belgians through. However, no matter the outcome, England fans can genuinely hope that this World Cup marks the start of something special.
