  1. Thanks to the fast-paced lives that we live, it isnât always possible to head home after work, get changed, and then go and attend a party. Or a date for that matter. With that being said, we also donât want to skip that party. After all, is there any easier way to climb the social ladder other than hanging around with the whoâs who of social media? Even if thatâs not the case, why would anyone skip of unabashed drinking and hanging out with their friends? © iStock We got celebrity stylist Akshay Tyagi to share some basic and easy-to-follow tips that should help us, men, look formal and sharp in the office, and head to a party, looking all dapper and suave. The best thing is, you actually donât need to do much, just a few basic things and youâre good to go. © Instagram/thetyagiakshay 1. Carry A Deodorant © iStock First and foremost, always carry a deodorant. Ideally, you should always keep deodorant in a drawer at your office, along with a basic grooming kit . However, if you donât have an independent drawer, get a sample or tester bottle of a good deodorant, or a roll-on stick. Remember guys, smelling nice is the first thing that should be on your mind. You donât want the stench of your workplace to ruin a well going and smooth party now, do you? 2. Get A Watch © iStock An accessory always goes a long way in accentuating and uplifting a basic outfit. The easiest way to accessorise, and jazz up a formal outfit, is to go with a watch. No need to go for anything fancy actually, just a basic, simple watch, that does not shout for attention, is not one of those childrenâs watches that has cartoons drawn all over it. Although they may be a great conversation starter, you will come across as a little creepy. 3. Take Care Of Your Shoe © iStock Ideally, you would want to carry a pair of shoes in a gym bag, but just in case thatâs not possible, at least get them thoroughly polished and shined. If you commute to and from work in your own car, there actually no excuse why you canât have a fresh pair of shoes and socks in your car. Yes, you need to change your socks, definitely. Especially if they start stinking. 4. Sort Your Hair Out © iStock Now, you have everything sorted, you have put on a rather quirky pocket square and everything is all set. However, just as you're about to exit the elevator of your office, you decide to take one final look at yourself and realise that your hair looks like it has just witnessed a category 4 hurricane. A sense of Déjà vu, guys? Well, there are a few basic things that you can do to get your hair all right and set. First of all, if you are one of those people whose jobs entail spending some time outdoors, like marketing and sales, get a dry shampoo and thoroughly apply it on your hair. Now, whether you shampoo your hair or not, definitely go for a good leave-in conditioner that will allow your hair to retain the moisture, and look healthy. Finally, follow it up with a good hair mousse or a styling product if you need it. Simply running your fingers under a tap and using them as a comb is a neanderthal thing to do, and you will look like a caveman, trust us. 5. Change Your Jacket, If Possible © Instagram/thetyagiakshay Finally, you need to do something about your jacket. If youâre wearing a tie and everything, just get rid of it and open the first two buttons of your shirt. Also, try and change your jacket. Again, if you travel to work using your car this should not be a task, but if you donât, try switching up the way how youâve styled your jacket - try pulling your sleeves up a little, up to just right below your elbow, if you have a sleeve wide enough. Alternatively, you can always stick with jackets with a shawl or peaked lapel instead of the regular notched lapel. They work well both in the boardroom as well as party lounge. View the full article
  2. Photo provided by: PIA spokespersonThe Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Air Marshal Arshad Malik’s plea seeking the court’s intervention in allowing him to continue as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The PIA chief had approached the apex court against the Sindh High Court's order which had stopped him from performing his functions as the airliner's CEO. In today’s hearing, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that PIA was not someone’s private property, and reminded the petitioner that the airline was a national asset. “We will not allow anyone to play with PIA’s fortune,” remarked Justice Ahmed, and questioned how the national flag carrier was being run. The chief justice also remarked that a case regarding the appointments in the PIA was already filed as a human rights case. The apex court while disposing off the petition said that all cases related to the PIA will be merged into a single case. The bench also summoned the record of the pending case in the SHC. The apex court directed the PIA's board of governors to run the the affairs of the airline. Case against Arshad Malik's qualificationOn December 31, the SHC had barred Malik from discharging his duties as CEO on a petition filed by Safdar Anjum, the general secretary of the airline's Senior Staff Association (SASA). The petition stated Malik did not fulfill the educational requirements of the post neither did he have any relevant experience for the job. The court also stopped the airline from transferring, hiring or firing employees. The high court also stopped the PIA from buying or selling assets. The bench said the national flag bearer could not sell assets worth over rupees one crore or make policies. Before joining the PIA, Malik was serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff. He is a graduate of the National Defence University (NDU) and qualified in Air Command and Staff Course from the US. Malik has served for more than 40 years in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) before he was appointed as the airline's chief executive officer. He was appointed as PIA chairman on October 11, 2018, by the federal government. On April 2, 2019, he was appointed the national flag carrier’s CEO.
  3. US-based Ashley Hall's dream of having a destination wedding in India was about to shatter when she was told that she will have to change the venue of her wedding and all she has was 48 hours to find a new location. As President Ram Nath Kovind as visiting the venue on the same day, the security team notified her to change the venue due to safety reasons. Ashley took to her Twitter saying, “Sometimes you plan a destination wedding for 8 months at an elite hotel in India. Sometimes the President of India makes an impromptu trip to that hotel on the day of the wedding. Sometimes you get 48 hours notice to plan an entirely new wedding.” Sometimes you plan a destination wedding for 8 months at an elite hotel in India. 4. For someone who started his journey as a waiter and whose early days in Bollywood were full of struggles, Akshay Kumar has come a long way in his cinematic journey. He has not only given back to back hits in the last year, but the 52-year-old actor has also created history by becoming the only actor in the industry to mint Rs. 700 crore at the box office in a single year. The latest report by Bollywood Hungama suggested that Akshay went miles ahead of actors Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh to reach at Rs. 700 crore mark in a year. This is a first of its kind. The actor clearly follows a strategy and does four movies a year which makes him stand apart from all the other biggies in the industry. In 2019, he had back to back four releases and with all the movies being hit at the box office, he not only entered the Rs. 500 crore-in-a-year club but was also able to make it to the first ever Rs. 700 crore-in-a-year club. With Kesari (Rs. 154.41 cr.), Mission Mangal (Rs. 202.98 cr.), Housefull 4 (Rs. 194.60 cr.) and Good Newwz (approx. Rs. 188 cr. expected), Akshay has managed to collect a whopping Rs. 700 crore in a single year at the box office, added the report. 5. In another bizarre robbery incident that went wrong, a bunch of thieves tried their luck in Delhi, only to get the opposite of what they bargained for. A group of thieves planned a smooth robbery and drilled a hole in a post office wall to steal all the money, however, fate had something else in store for them. While they did successfully manage to dig a hole in the safe and get away a bag of money that was left by the cashier the previous day, much to their chagrin, all the bag had was Rs 487, and that too in coins. © BCCL According to TOI, the hole in the wall was around two feet wide and one foot long which also made the investigators reckon that the heist also involved a slim, minor boy who helped the robbers. DCP East Delhi told HT, “It is likely that the dilapidated condition of the building gave the thief the idea to commit the theft. It wouldn't have taken him much effort to break a hole in such a wall.” The official also added, “The hole is so narrow that only a slim child could have entered it. We are probing whether it is the role of an individual boy or he was used by someone to carry out the theft.” The robbery took so much effort to be pulled off and the ridiculous outcome somehow makes us feel a little bad for the robbers. Nonetheless, a case has been registered and the police are on the lookout for the suspects. View the full article

Employees of the electricity department were seen wearing helmets while doing their routine jobs on their desks. The decrepit condition of the building, with holes in the roof and papers and files scattered across a room that doesn't have any cupboards and drawers, forced the employees to take such a bizarre step. According to ANI, the employees said they wore helmets as they thought the roof of the building would crash anytime on their heads and the helmet was the only way to protect themselves. ANI also tweeted a picture of the incident and that's how the whole thing surfaced on the internet. “Banda: Employees of electricity dept wear helmets to protect themselves from any untoward incident while working in a dilapidated office building. 11. Some movies continue holding a special place in everyone's heart for various reasons. Sometimes it's the leading pair's chemistry, sometimes it's the storyline and some movies are magical because of the love you can witness on screen between the actors. However, some movies also end up being a catalyst for breaking up relationships off-screen for these actors. After all they, too, are human. Here are 5 movies which broke more relationships than box office records: 1. Jab We Met One of the best works of Shahid and Kareena mixed with the brilliance of Imtiaz Ali's epic story telling, this movie continues to be everyone's favourite love story thanks to how 'real' it is. Sadly, the sparkling chemistry between the real life lovers back then turned sour as it was rumoured that during the final lap of the shoot, they broke up. Soon after the release, Kareena was known to be dating Saif, which was not a rumour. 14. Salman Khan has always maintained that he does not give much credit to the reviews by the critics, instead, it's the box office collection which is the key validating factor to a movie's success. Salman's latest release 'Bharat', which is an official remake of the South Korean film 'Ode to My Father', started off on a great note but then lost its pace at the box office market and now, it looks like it has run out of steam. The movie has managed to earn Rs 188.65 crore at the ticket windows and is struggling to cross the Rs 200 crore mark. The movie opened to mixed reviews from critics, as some called it bland while some termed it the perfect Eid blockbuster. We wonder if the movie will be able to make Rs 200 crore at the box office. 'Bharat' was released on 4,700 screens in India and on over 1,300 screens overseas. In one of the group interviews, while promoting the movie, Salman said, “My validation comes from the box office collections... that the people have liked or not liked a film. It doesn't make a difference if someone (a critic) has given it so many stars (ratings) or ridiculed the film. It's their bread and butter. 15. There's no need to bet on the fact that 'Avengers: Endgame' is surely one of the most anticipated films of the year 2019. Just two days are left for the release and the fans can't keep calm. If you have booked your tickets well in advance, then you're probably bubbling with anticipation over how the movie will turn out. There's a rush among fans to see the movie on the very first day and if you are a hardcore Marvel fan and you have not been able to book the ticket, we can totally understand your pain. It's common knowledge that the barometer of any film's success rate is the box office opening. The more the movie mints, the more it attracts the audience to watch it on the big screen. Interestingly, 'Avengers: Endgame' will wrap the storylines that have been shown in the last 21 films. It's the ultimate finale and that's why the craze. Since the box office is one of the biggest parameters of the success rate of a film, we got in touch with Trade and Film Expert, Girish Johar, to know the Day 1 prediction for Endgame. © Twitter/girishjohar "The craze for 'Avengers: Endgame' is unprecedented. It's not only in India but we can see it globally. In China, the midnight screenings broke the record of 'Fast and Furious' by three times and that's not really a small thing. It has crushed the previous records and the same is expected in India. Advance bookings have gone berserk and fans have gone crazy. I, honestly, expect mayhem at the box office. They have already cloaked in a million tickets in advance which is great. It will shatter the old box office records and new ones will be set with 'Avengers: Endgame'," Girish said. "The screenings are yet to be locked by today. I envisage around Rs 50 crores plus on Day 1 including all the languages. The screens are being increased by each passing day. The audience is hungry and wants to see it. Even after ticket pricing being high, fans are still thronging so it shows the craze the people have for the franchise," added Girish. Are you excited to watch 'Avengers: Endgame' this weekend? Tell us in the comments below.
  16. Salman 'bhai' is back with his 'Eid' gift for fans all over the globe. The trailer of his much-awaited 'Bharat' finally dropped a few minutes ago and before we talk about it, let's have a look at it. Ali Abbas Zafar is back with Katrina and Salman as a team in a tried and tested formula which looks like it will be a super hit. The movie also stars Disha Patani and Sunil Grover in pivotal roles and is a remake of the Korean hit, 'An Ode To My Father'. The movie follows a chronology of India over six decades and Salman Khan will be donning five different looks in the movie. Salman's character is also named 'Bharat' which is like a metaphorical representation of the country itself. SKF The trailer stays true to a typical Salman 'bhai' movie. It has good background score, the enigma of Salman himself, lovely ladies to add more value to the script and a whole 'over the top' vibe. The movie is releasing on 5th June this year, so we have something grand to look forward to this Eid, like every Eid. Get ready to witness the journey of a man and a nation together.
  17. John Abraham's second innings as an on-screen spy in espionage thriller 'Romeo Akbar Walter' has finally hit the theaters today. After his successful streak of good luck with a number of patriotic films in the recent times, the audience was looking for a similar experience even this time around. © Viacom 18 The audience was looking for a film with a good plot, strong characters, and a direction that's capable of driving the story, but unfortunately, the initial Twitter reviews have called Abraham's 'RAW' a “raw” deal. A disappointment across the spectrum. © Viacom 18 The recurrent complaint related to the film was that the plot's dullness, and that the film seems to just drag on and sluggish to the point of boredom. While John Abraham has often been called out for this stoical acting, of lack of it, in front of the camera, this time film-goers seemed to have found better things to bash in the film instead of John's acting calibre. © Viacom 18 Movie-goers have found worse elements that plague the film. 'RAW' director Robby Grewal is being bashed by Twitter users for his unsatisfactory vision and execution. The screenplay and even the theme is said to be questionable, and people are simply not buying into the makers' half-baked nationalism. After seeing disappointing reviews of #RAW I can now understand why it took Robby Grewal 10 years to direct another film. His last movie as a director was Aloo Chaat in 2009. 18. The financial year end is here and you would be stuck in the office for long hours neck deep in work. You would barely be getting enough sleep let alone the time to go to the gym. via GIPHY Here is what usually happens during such time, you end up gaining weight, your waistline increases horizontally and you lose the motivation to go to the gym altogether. Well, guess what? If you are gaining a lot of weight and getting fatter during this time, it is YOUR fault. via GIPHY Yes, you read that right. Now, I am not here to blame you. Rather, I am saying that it is you who has control over these things. If you are smart enough, you can manage your fitness just right at this time and get back to progress as soon as the workload drops. 1. Add Some Activity To Your Sedentary Routine via GIPHY Most jobs require you to sit all day long and this drops your activity all day long. You can include very simple things like taking the stairs in place of the elevator, getting up from your desk whenever you get a chance and get a 5-minute walk, and so on. Just increasing this activity can help you burn 100 - 200 extra calories a day. 2. Get In A Quick Workout Session via GIPHY Cannot get to the gym? No problem. Understand that during this stressful time, your goal is to maintain and do enough. Do simple things like having a quick 15-min workout in the morning by doing 50 push-ups and 50 body squats. It is not comparable to the gym but it is something. The extra benefit being you will feel fresh and have a great start to the day. 3. Stop Mindless Binging via GIPHY I have worked in a corporate structure and they do little things to make your life a bit more comfortable there. And yes, most of this comfort is adding to your waistline. I have seen pantries filled with biscuits and chips and most employees walking to the pantries and getting these things to the table and mindlessly eating them. One simple thing - Out of sight, out of mind. Do not stock your tables with these high-calorie foods as you never know you may end up eating a 1000 extra calories a day. 4. Use Low-Calorie Beverages via GIPHY At times when you are stressed out, you do feel the need to eat or drink something. Instead of going with the juices loaded with a lot of calories, you can pick low-calorie beverages like salted lemonades, lemon sodas with salt, diet coke, green tea, or black coffee. These little things will simply help you maintain your fitness during these stressful times and you would not go down that road where you start ignoring your health and pile on a ton of weight in the future and regret it. They were usually something like 'types of fruits' or 'types of flowers' but there were some particular charts that had directions to become the ideal child. We all remember the 'adarsh balak' and now even Stephen Fry does. The English comedian, actor, and writer stumbled upon a framed 'adarsh balak' chart at his doctor's office and was so confused by it that he decided to share it with his 12.7 million followers. 23. Office party… Seems like an oxymoron, doesn't it? A party is supposed to be a fun place to be and usually, the office is the opposite of such a place. © Deedle-Dee Productions/ NBC/ Universal Television Also, the thing more taxing than going to an office party is deciding what to wear for it. You can't go all out in party mode because after all, it has the word “office” in it, but you also don't necessarily have to put on your boring business suit because it's supposed to be a "party''. So, what can you wear to such an event? Ah, if only you had a fairy godmother who would just “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" your dressing woes away. The office today isn't what our parents used to go to. The crowd is younger, trendier and more updated about their fashion sense. Also, unlike the claustrophobic environment of the old days, there is room for letting your hair down. © Weiner Bros./Silvercup Studios/Lionsgate Television/ AMC With the advent of globalization and modernization, the definition of an office and its connotations have drastically changed (for the better); there are parties, events, meetings where one needs to put their best foot forward, and that too impeccably dressed! © Hypnotic Films & Television/ Universal Cable Productions/ USA Network The dress code has also changed; no longer are you required to wear stiff formal clothes, there's a new term on the block; business casual. Though it may sound easy, breezy it isn't as easy as it sounds. Business casual does let go of the traditional formal wear, but it still has its clutches on the way you dress (Yes, you still can't wear your favourite ganji to the office). An office party is a crucial event where you can show your personality without going wild and can push the envelope without going overboard. © Weiner Bros./Silvercup Studios/Lionsgate Television/ AMC It is also an opportunity to socialize and network with other people from work and gives you a way to see the buoyant, merry side of your colleagues (sometimes too merry a side! :P). © Weiner Bros./Silvercup Studios/Lionsgate Television/ AMC In fact, office parties can be a great way to meet new people and indulge in a conversation other than deadlines and projects. Though, you might also have to put on a fake smile when meeting your exasperating co-workers (Don't lie, we all have at least one! Loudmouth Lokesh from Finance, perhaps?) Also, you can finally talk to the person on whom you have been crushing hard and even flirt nonchalantly while looking your best. © Weiner Bros./Silvercup Studios/Lionsgate Television/ AMC The party theme can range from one end of the spectrum to another: black-tie formal to cocktail chic to casual soirée. Yet again, it is a time to show your sartorial prowess and have fun while dressing up. © CBS/ Bays and Thomas Productions/ 20th Century Fox Television Whatever you do, follow the theme and dress code of the party; wearing a sherwani at a black-tie dinner party is not the way to go! (Sorry, Justin Trudeau! :P) Feeling apprehensive about your choices? Worry not, we got you! Here, are some of the essentials which you need in your wardrobe for such an occasion: 1. A Great Pair Of Cufflinks: Yes, those things in a dress shirt which secure the cuffs! A cufflink is a great accessory; it shows that you take your appearance seriously and they have a quintessential charm to them. (Nope, they aren't pretentious!) Now, cufflinks can be both formal and casual; it depends on the type of party that the office is throwing. Formal/tuxedo cufflinks; these are prevalent for evening wear and show a classier version of you. Remember to only use them if it is a dressy event, i.e., a black-tie office party or a fancy dinner party where you need to whip out your tux. Go for the solid coloured ones; in hues of grey, silver or onyx. View this post on Instagram Don't taste the white chocolate, they said. BE the white chocolate. And thus, I became. Cufflinks today come with a plethora of options: various sizes, fabrics and styles. Semi-precious stones, metal, silk, you say it, you get it! © Unsplash Keep in mind to choose a good motif; something which isn't very conspicuous or obnoxious and stays away from the tacky, loud, heavily embellished ones. A solid, monochrome, metallic one without OTT detailing is always a safe option. Cufflinks are expensive, but they are worth the investment. 2. Turtlenecks: A great piece of clothing if you use it well and makes you nail that elusive smart casual look. A turtleneck with a blazer/jacket goes a long way in making an impression; it looks fabulous without being too formal. View this post on Instagram #TIFF A post shared by Vicky Kaushal (@vickykaushal09) on Sep 12, 2018 at 7:58am PDT The best thing about a turtleneck is that is in that grey space between formal and casual, which makes it your safest bet for a party! Another good thing is that you can pair it up with most types of pants; chinos, trousers, jeans. Go for darker colours; black, aubergine, brown, dark green are the best options. It makes for a sleeker silhouette and gives you a sharp frame. Stay away from flashy colours. You can also go for neutral colours to push the envelope. Ready for the #LuxGoldenRoseAwards ð¹ A post shared by KARTIK AARYAN (@kartikaaryan) on Nov 18, 2018 at 6:55am PST Make sure that it fits you correctly; not too snug or too loose, it should hug your frame without appearing shabby or weird. Layering is always a good option; throw on a bomber jacket or a wool blazer to increase the appeal of the turtleneck; it makes you look dapper in an understated way. Another sartorial inspiration would be to ditch the shirt and wear it with your suit! With the onset of winters, it is the perfect way to keep warm while looking suave. Whatever you do, please, never tuck in your turtleneck. 3. Bomber Jacket: No, this isn't a typo, you read it right. Regarded mostly as a casual jacket, a bomber jacket can transform into a credible business casual/office party piece, provided you pick out a good one. Go monochrome; black, white, brown, grey without any kind of embellishments or over the top detailing (this is your office, remember!). View this post on Instagram “During college, I decided to interview for an IT job just for the thrill of it. I wanted to experience the 'nervousness'–wearing a tie & showing your resumé. I already knew that I wasn't going into that profession, even when I got a job offer. My dad's an action director & despite his hope that 'Kaushal parivar ka chirag' will get a 9-5 job with stability— I announced that I wanted to be an actor. But, I didn't know struggle like my father had. He went into films to survive. When my mom married him - they lived in a small room, with a chattai & a chair. My father built everything from there. It wasn't easy - he had to hunt for our next meal. So he made sure to let us know where each piece of furniture came from. That's why when I told him I wanted to act - he said be sure. Acting as a profession couldn't be a '?' for me. I needed to put 120% & not have a back up waiting. So I tore up that offer letter from the job & set out for auditions. My 1st one was horrifying. It was for a small role & I realised how far from everything I was. On my way home, I was like 'Vicky, ab toh tune job letter bhi phaad diya!' I was afraid, but I literally couldn't give up. So the next day, I set off to more auditions. I even started theatre & evolved as an actor. I wanted to learn the practicality. Finally Masaan released in 2015. That's when my dad saw my performance on a big screen. He was so proud- when he got a phone call from a friend - saying 'Vicky ke papa' He called me in 10 mins boasting 'you know what happened? Someone called me Vicky's dad today!' So that's it. The journey from being my father's son to him being Vicky's dad was what gave me hope… things were changing. My happiest moment since then was when I 1st bought a car with my own money. When you're younger, you say things like 'I'll have my own Mercedes someday!' Never knowing when it'll happen. So I took my mom to the show room & she said - 'you remember when you were younger, you used to point out toy cars in shops? And today you're making me sit in your car.' She had teary eyes. That's the moment I knew that I've retained my title as being the 'Kaushal parivaar ka chirag,' & I did it on my own terms!" A post shared by Humans of Bombay (@officialhumansofbombay) on Sep 30, 2018 at 5:00am PDT Remember that it should fit you well, akin to a blazer; your shoulders should fit snugly into it without being too tight on the rest of the body. I would say perfectly dressed for a nice drive in the countryside with the Aston Martin DB5 @astonmartinlagonda which first appeared in the 1964 Bond movie “Goldfinger”. #piercebrosnan #jamesbond #007 #irish #actor #gentleman #dapper #debonair #brogues #therake #astonmartin A post shared by The Traveling Gentleman (@travelinggentleman) on Nov 13, 2018 at 6:01am PST They are beautifully crafted and go exceedingly well with evening wear. If it is a formal party, you can easily pair it up with your suit and the whole look becomes a statement. In fact, they also gel well with traditional wear. For a casual party, brogues paired with chinos and a classic shirt spell elegant chic with a fun side. Funny how these shoes, once considered country shoes and not formal, have taken over not only the business arena but the casual space as well. A pair of brogues is now an icon of high-end fashion. If you are not the fan of the detailing, go for oxford brogues (remember Colin Firth from Kingsman) which do not have the indentations (or less) which a brogue does. 6. Perfume: The elegant (read way classier) version of deodorants; perfumes make you feel confident about yourself. A cliché in nearly every post you read about grooming, a perfume is the best way to smell better. Their fragrance is different and more intense; no, the girls won't be fawning all over you if you use a perfume, they sure will be fainting in your wake if you don't though. Invest in good quality perfumes and be sure to try it out on yourself. What smells good on someone or in its pack might not smell the same on you. © Unsplash Wait a while when trying out perfumes, so that you can judge how it smells once it mingles with your natural scent. No one likes a Smelly Solomon; you wouldn't want your office colleagues to talk of you as the guy who smells! But remember, you need just a few sprays on the correct parts of your body (chest, wrists, back of the ear, inner bicep), don't drench yourself in the perfume; you'll end up making everyone breathless in the wrong way: with a sneezing fit. With Christmas and New Year around the corner, you must surely have a few office parties to look forward to; indulge yourself in these fashion essentials and become the debonair gentleman who is the toast of the party. Best of Luck! Thank us later. :D

    Manto In Office

What would Manto be like if he had worked in an office? Let's find out.
  25. From Munna's 'jaadu ki jhappi' that became synonymous to every grateful/friendly hug we passed around amongst friends, to Rancho's 'aal izz well' that popularly transformed into a national emotion, every film under Rajkumar Hirani's direction bears an interesting sentimental connect, only few other Bollywood directors have been able to deliver. The Lesser Known Backstory Regarded as one of India's most successful and critically acclaimed filmmaker, Rajkumar Hirani is a commerce graduate, who became exceedingly interested in the films and theatre much against his parents' wishes. © Twitter An active participant in theatre groups during college, Raju Hirani's father got him enrolled in an acting school in Mumbai, but he ended up staying there for just 3 days. Later he ended up getting a scholarship for a film editing course, and thus began his filmy journey - or so he thought. Destiny At Play Destiny seemed to have a different path laid out for Rajkumar Hirani, as initial failures and rejections saw him shift base to the advertising sector. He tasted some big successes in the industry, but his passion to make films pushed him to break away from advertising. This is when he started working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra as an editor in films, but his big break came with 'Mission Kashmir' in 2000 where he was taken onboard as the film editor. © Twitter The Big Directorial Debut Rajkumar Hirani made his directorial debut with 'Munnabhai MBBS' in 2003, which was a major hit with the audiences nationwide, and became a classic cult movie of sorts. This was followed by 'Lage raho Munnabhai' in 2006, which brought Hirani a significant amount of critical acclaim. The cultural impact of the movie, which popularised Gandhigiri all across the country, put him on the national radar of directors to watch out for. What Makes Him Special When friends in the industry refer to him, their vocabulary comprises of words such as 'sincere' and 'modest' - he is known as the man who is unperturbed by the fame he enjoys. He is seems to enjoy his disconnect with the temporal world - the unworldliness which also transfers to the characters in his movies. Be it PK, Rancho or Munnabhai, all of them bear an air of unworldliness around them. Boman Irani was quoted by Business World as saying that, “He is no different on the sets than he is elsewhere. He is a great conversationalist. But the reason why he's a great filmmaker is that he considers the opinion of everyone. He's very open to criticism. There is nothing highfalutin about him, despite all the success." This only seems to reflect the larger opinion that people hold about the filmmaker. Not just that, Hirani's movies seem to be a manifestation of his personal ideologies that resonate with the masses. © Reuters No matter which movie you wish to consider, the well-crafted cultural bridges evident in Hirani's movies, along with the socially poignant messages that he throws in with his direction, screenplay and dialogues make for a stellar watch every single time. Film critic, Rajeev Masand also points out the ideosyncracies that are innate to every Raju Hirani movie, and had this to say about Hirani's style of direction as seen in 'Sanju', “In trademark Hirani fashion, the film is both moving and humorous,” which again is a recurring trope that marks most of his movies. Hirani's strength lies in building a connect with his audiences, and offering something for every audience age-group. The message and story that Hirani therefore translates onto frames is commendable and thus, it doesn't come as a shock when you find out he is one of the few directors who have the maximum amount of hits in the box office! The Best Of Raju Hirani Rajkumar Hirani carries the name of some of the best movies Bollywood has ever produced, under his belt. 'Munnabhai MBBS' based on the life and struggles of the goon who had his heart in the right place was an exposé on rampant discrimination in the medical sector. On the other hand, 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' is a rewriting of Gandhigiri in contemporary times, whereas '3 Idiots' was a scathing criticism of the India's current state of education. Similarly, 'PK' was a direct attack on India's obsession with religious fanaticism and love for superstitions. © Reuters More recently, 'Sanju' brought Hirani critical acclaim for his vision and more than perfect execution of it, to tell a story that needed to be heard. Whitewashing or not, the movie made for a good watch. Rajkumar Hirani has presented the Indian film-goers with marvellous stories that shall be cherished by movie enthusiasts for many years to come.
