  4. Indian film stars and cricketers wearing insanely expensive watches isnât exactly anything new. Quirky Patek Phillipes, zany Audemars Piguets, Rolexes with cases made of gold - these have, somehow, become the norm for Bollywood if they want to be taken seriously by Indian horologists. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 Having said that, every once in a while, someone, wears something so exquisite, that we just have to take a step back and take a good hard look. This time around, it was Ranveer Singh, who wore a watch so rare and exclusive, that even the 1 per cent-ers in India couldnât buy one. © Instagram/ranveersingh Ranveer was recently spotted outside the Mumbai airport with Deepika Padukone, wearing a rather simplistic and basic outfit. However, with Ranveer being Ranveer, there was bound to be a quirky element with that as well. © Viral Bhayani The light washed denim jeans that Ranveerâs wearing has a belt of sorts thatâs incredibly long, much like the one that Aparshakti wore. The manner the belt hangs out in a quirky manner from the side is quintessentially Ranveer. © Viral Bhayani However, as we said, it was his watch that caught our eye. Given that Ranveer endorses Franck Muller, the Geneva-based watchmakers, seeing wearing a piece from them, shouldnât be that surprising. © Viral Bhayani But this time around, Ranveer was spotted wearing their one of their rarest timepieces. Ranveer is wearing the Franck Muller Vanguard Yachting Watch Number 64716. What makes this watch so exclusive and rare, is the fact that the case, apart from being made of white gold, is also covered in tiny diamonds. Even the numbers on the dial are covered in diamonds. © Viral Bhayani Speaking of the dial, it is again made of precious metal and has a glossy finish to it. The band of the watch is made using finely quilted leather, which gives it an exquisite appeal. As for the technical aspects, it is a classic piece from Franck Mullerâs Yachting series. With a fair number of complications, the watch is a highly coveted collectorâs piece and already has a cult status among ardent horologists. © TraxNYC The reason why we say that even Indiaâs top one per cent couldnât buy one even if they wanted to, is again because of rarity. Some experts say that the watch is worth somewhere in the ballpark of $300,000, which converts to about Rs 2.1 crores. © TraxNYC However, considering how rare the watch actually is, and how difficult it gradually becomes to get your hands on legacy pieces as time flies by, if you were to try and buy this piece today, you would have to shell out at least Rs 2.6 crores. Add to that your regular import duties and taxes, and youâre looking at a figure thatâs ridiculously high. Almost as if it would cost you the Earth, all your bodily fluids, kidneys, lungs, and then some more. If you find someone who is willing to sell you this piece, that is. © TraxNYC Seriously, this just goes on to show that Ranveerâs operating in a different reality altogether. View the full article
  5. Recently, Indian business tycoon Ratan Tata posted a picture of his younger self on Instagram which broke the internet as people started to realize the younger version of one India's biggest Industrialist, may as well have been a Hollywood star. This is also because if you take a look at the younger version of Mr Tata, you'll realize how the picture clearly suggests that cleaning up well can do a lot. And, especially, for Mr Tata, who stuck to basics especially when it came to his style game and made sure that even wardrobe staples like a basic crisp white shirt looked stunning on a regular day. Here's proof: View this post on Instagram I was going to post this yesterday, but I was then told about “throwbacks” and how they occur on Thursdays. So here is a throwback from my days in LA, not long before I happily returned to India. #throwbackthursday A post shared by (@ratantata) Post this picture, people just can't get over how good Ratan Tata looked in his time. For the uninitiated, Mr Tata is the great-grandson of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of Tata Group. He is also an alumnus of the Cornell University College of Architecture. After returning to India, he succeeded J. R. D. Tata upon the latter's retirement in 1991. During Mr Ratan Tata's chairmanship of 21 years, Tata Tea acquired Tetley and Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel acquired Corus, this was done in an attempt to take Tata from a largely India-centric group into a global business brand. So, we scouted for rare pictures of Ratan Tata from his days in the US as a student to his early days in India when he was stepping into heading the Tata Industries. These pictures will convince you that he was definitely very handsome (still is ) and has been on top of his style game at all times. 1. 9. Apple I was the first computer hand-built by Steve Wozniak way back in 1976 originally for $666 (Rs 47,000) where it came with a board that could be hooked to a TV and keyboard. The original computer never came with a casing which is why this particular version was sold in a briefcase. © Wikipedia Commons Today, the same computer was sold at an auction for $471,000 (Rs 3.3 Crore) and came with a built-in keyboard, original manuals, a handful of magazines with articles about the Apple I. The auctioned piece also came with compatible hardware such as an SWTPC PR-40 dot matrix printer, extremely rare photocopies of the original Apple founding paperwork and other items. © YouTube Nobody knows the exact number of Apple I computers that were made; however, some estimate only a total of around 200 devices were made. As of today, only 68 such computers exist in the world according to the Apple-I Registry run by enthusiasts. This particular Apple I computer that was auctioned off has been listed as number 10. The Apple I plays a significant role in Apple's history as it was the first product that helped in financing the creation of the company. Production of the Apple I was discontinued on September 30th, 1977 and was felled by its successor in the same year. © Wikipedia Commons According to the Apple I Registry “Both Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak have stated that Apple did not assign serial numbers to the Apple l. Several boards have been found with numbered stickers affixed to them, which appear to be inspection stickers from the PCB manufacturer/assembler. “ Source: TechCrunch, Christies
  10. A couple of decades ago, Limba Ram was the personification of focus and unshaken resolve. His dedication and the will to make his country proud even led him to represent the nation thrice in the Olympics and a 30-m World Record shared with Japan's Takayoshi Matsushita with a score of 357/360 that got him the gold medal at the Beijing Asian Archery Championships, 1992. He was even conferred with the Padma Shri in 2012 by former president Pratibha Patil. © PIB Today, he has lost the ability to keep his hands steady and the cognitive ability to join two sentences together with a hollow stare and a confused look on his face. At the age of 46, Ram is suffering from a neurodegenerative disorder called Parkinson's disease, which impacts the cells present deep inside a human brain that are majorly responsible for transferring messages to the rest of the body for movement purposes. The athlete, who almost won the bronze medal for India back in 1992 currently lies in a six-bed general ward of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) without the funds to limit the spreading of the disease that only gets worse with time leading to the eventual loss of all motor functions and a bedridden living. "The doctors say his illness is not curable but is very much controllable. All my husband needs is good medical treatment which he is getting here with all doctors so supportive and sympathetic towards him. It's just that we need financial support to continue his treatment. Private hospitals in Delhi will charge a fortune, so we can't take him there,” Ram's wife, Merian Jenny said, as reported by the Times of India. The secretary of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), SS Chhabra wrote a letter to the Sports Ministry on 25th April 2019 about the deteriorating condition of the former Indian Olympians, seeking funds to be able to treat his illness in a more fruitful manner. However, the ministry has not reverted yet. While Jenny has faith in the Sports Ministry, her anger is directed towards the Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC), where Limba was working before the infamous disease caught hold of him. "Medical bills of Rs 1 lakh are pending with the council and they are not giving us the money. We spent Rs 1.5 lakh on his treatment at the Sawai Man Singh hospital in Jaipur last year. We submitted the bills for reimbursement later on, but only Rs 50,000 has so far been released. It will be of great help if we get that money.”
  11. In a rare show of affability and camaraderie between Indian politicians, the country saw two senior politicos of the leading rival parties in India, Shashi Tharoor and Nirmala Sitharaman, coming together to show that regardless of one's political loyalties, we must always place humanity first. We are aware that Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram legislature, Shashi Tharoor had to cancel his election campaign on Monday, following a freak accident during a Thulabharam offering at the Gandhari Amman Kovil temple in Thampanoor. #Visuals from Kerala: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been injured while offering prayers at a temple in Thiruvananthapuram and has been shifted to General Hospital there. He was rushed to the hospital where the Congress leader received 11 stitches and was kept in observation. Millions have done Thulabharam before. pic.twitter.com/xtxlhZjfbY — Charudatt Fadnisð®ð³ (@CFadnis) April 16, 2019 However, yesterday, BJP leader and Union Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman paid a visit to Tharoor in the hospital, wishing him a speedy recovery. This simple humane gesture and show of politeness touched Tharoor, who took to Twitter to express his appreciation. Touched by the gesture of @nsitharaman, who dropped by today morning to visit me in the hospital, amid her hectic electioneering in Kerala. Civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics - great to see her practice it by example! pic.twitter.com/XqbLf1iCR5 — Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) April 16, 2019 He posted a photo of his meeting with Sitharaman at the hospital, and wrote that “Civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics - great to see her practice it by example!” We agree to what Tharoor has pointed out as we have witnessed enough muck being tossed between Indian politicians regularly and this gesture indeed deserves a word of praise. On her part, Sitharaman told ANI earlier today, that she hadn't informed anyone about her visit to the hospital and did it simply because it felt right. Defence Minister to ANI: I got to know that he (Shashi Tharoor) injured himself while performing some ritual(in Trivandrum)so I thought I should go&wish him well. I hadn't informed anybody, not even in my party circle. On my way back to airport, I thought I should go to hospital. pic.twitter.com/fYSfwE0WZn — ANI (@ANI) April 17, 2019 The society, and therefore the country at large will be such a better place if politicians decided to simply stick to their job in all honesty, and behave more like the civilised citizens they claim to be. What a utopian existence that would be. Don't you agree?

  13. Animated characters are our first real introduction to cinema. They're entrusted with a very important responsibility. Shaping the minds of children. Yes, the influence animated characters have on us when we were children tends to stay with us for the rest of our lives. That's why it may not seem like much, but animated characters really do matter. When we speak of animated characters there is one name everyone knows, Mickey Mouse. For the last 90 years, Mickey (and his friends) have been educating kids while also keeping them entertained. From our grandparents to our parents, us and our kids, Mickey Mouse is going to be a part of our lives. Better believe it. So, for the 90th anniversary of Mickey's first appearance in Steamboat Willie, we thought we'd take you down memory lane and look at how the character has evolved over the years. Yeah, just like the times, Mickey too has seen some changes over the years. So, here are some fun facts about the world-famous mouse that not many would know: Here's one of the first images of Mickey from way back in 1929. Source: Disney India Initially, it was Walt Disney himself who voiced the character. Source: Disney India He was the first animated character to speak. The first words he said were, “hot dogs!” Source: Disney India Mickey was the first animated character who got his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Source: Instagram Mickey was originally supposed to be called Mortimer. Thankfully, that didn't happen. Instead, his arch enemy was called Mortimer. Source: Disney India
  14. One of the best things about Irrfan Khan is that he has never ever kept his fans in the dark, no matter what he's going through. As everyone knows, the actor has been MIA because he's undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with Neuro-Endocrine tumour and has the entire country praying for his speedy recovery. He posts any message he has for everyone on Twitter and always keeps the people who have always supported him in the loop. We are all curious about his treatment and we want to know what he's going through and that's why he gives interviews and updates whenever he's up for it. We got one open letter just a little over a month ago and now he's further explained all the procedures and everything in an interview with Associated Press. © Twitter When asked how he's doing in general, he said, “I've seen life from a completely different angle. You sit down, and you see the other side and that's fascinating. I'm engaged on a journey.” Talking about what he went through after the diagnosis, he said, “There are challenges which life throws at you. But I have started believing in the way this condition has tested me, really, really tested me in all aspects — physical, emotional and spiritual. It has put me in a rapture state. Initially I was shaken. I didn't know. I was very, very vulnerable. But slowly, there is another way to look at things that is much more powerful and much more productive and much healthier and I just want people to believe that nature is much more trustworthy, and one must trust that. The problem with me initially was everyone was speculating whether I would be out of this disease or not. Because it's not in my hand. That's nature that will do whatever it has to do.” © Twitter He also emphasised how his perspective has changed during this. “What is in my hand, I could take care of that. And it offers so much that you feel thankful. The way it is opening your windows to look at life. I would have never reached that state even if I had done meditation for 30 years, I wouldn't have reached it. But this sudden jolt has put me into a platform where I could look at things in a completely different manner. And for that I am really thankful. It sounds strange, but they should trust nature rather than feel sad, and trust that whatever the outcome, it will be for good and it will be for the best.” When asked about work, he said he's not reading any scripts and not focussing on that right now, rather he's embracing the unpredictability of life: “I'm just spontaneous. And I'm loving this experience. There was something missing in my life. I was feeling a little manipulated by myself, by my own mind. There was a kind of disharmony in myself. It was bothering me. And I think this is what I was missing, this spontaneity.” © Twitter He also mentioned he's already gone through four cycles of chemo, and still has six more to go. And, he ended by saying, “Clarity came like lightning. You stop your contemplation, you stop your planning, you stop the noise. You see the other aspect of it. It gives you so much. Life offers you so much. That's why I feel like I have no other words but thanks. There are no other words, there's no other demand, there's no other prayer.”

  17. Who wouldn't love to own an American muscle car? We've seen so many in movies and would kill for a chance to drive one. Yes, The Ford Mustang did finally make its way to India, but it's nothing like the muscle cars on this list. If Vin Diesel were to go through this list, we're pretty sure he would approve. These cars are just that damn good! 1. 1970 Buick Skylark GSX Stage 1 1970 can be considered one of the best years ever for muscle cars. The Buick was late to this party but that doesn't mean they were going to be left behind. There were only 400 built and getting your hands on one of these can be a little tricky. But, driving one is going to be one hell of a ride! © YouTube The Skylark GSX Stage 1 produced 510 lb-ft of torque which was a record it held among American production performance cars all the way till 2003. 2. 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda Hemi Super Track Pack When the Baracuda was redesigned in 1970, it got rid of all commonality. It was available in convertible and coupe. No one was calling it the 'economy car' anymore, that's for sure. © YouTube They were among the first muscle cars to earn some serious money at the auction. This isn't going to change anytime soon. 3. 1969 Chevrolet Camaro COPO ZL1 Chevrolet offered quite a few different types of engines in 1969 but, the aluminium block on the ZL1 was, by far, the most powerful. These cars were only available on special order and were mostly ordered by professional drag racers. © YouTube There were only 69 cars that were sold and that just adds to the exclusivity of owning one. If you can find an owner eager enough to get rid of it… 4. 1970 American Motors Rebel Machine Did you know there was a car manufacturer called American Motors? Well, it's not a big name today, but in 1970, it was machine for every rebel! It wasn't the fastest out there but it could beat 'a Volkswagen or your old man's Cadillac' any day of the week. © YouTube There's a neat way to check if the AMC Rebel Machine you buy is genuine too. The unique placement of the VIN on the frame rail proves you might be able to copy the looks, but there are some details that just can't be copied. 5. 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Drag Pack The first Ford on this list and boy is it a pretty one. The car came with a 429 Super Cobra Jet engine and 4-speed transmission that shifts effortlessly. © YouTube But, let's face it, the only reason you would want to own this one, is because it's a cool looking Ford Mustang that not too many people own. 6. 1963 Chevrolet Z-11 Impala Chevrolet knew what the public wanted way before anyone else. The Chevrolet Z-11 Impala is everyone's dream come true in just about every department. This is the car that resulted in the Chevy becoming the best-selling car in the United States, a record it held for over 10 years. © YouTube While the 2018 version is no longer the beast that it used to be, the 1963 Impala will always be remembered for its unique look. Good luck trying to find one.

  19. Every person, at least at some point in his/her life, thinks about how to give back to the society, about how to make a difference, even if it be a small one. The world is not all that bad. Every once in a while you come across someone who is extraordinary, someone who has a heart of gold, someone who can touch lives and make them infinitely better. One such hero is 81-year-old James Harrison who hails from Australia. The man has saved 2.4 million infant lives in his whole lifetime. He has donated blood a whopping 1,172 times. For this reason, he is fondly called as 'the man with golden arm'. © Twitter/Kristie E. DePaul At the young age of 14, Harrison had to get one of his lungs removed. He had to go through numerous blood transfusions during the procedure. "I was in the hospital for three months and I had 100 stitches,” he was quoted by NPR as saying. One would think after such a traumatic experience at a young age, the man would have forever sworn off needles and hospitals, leave alone donating blood. But this is the difference between an ordinary person and a great one – it was this very trauma that made James Harrison become a regular blood donator. He decided to help others and, despite his dislike for needles, went on to donate blood 1,172 times in his life. From the age of 18, he began donating blood – a habit he ritually followed over the years. After over a decade of donating, it was discovered that his blood was rare – researches found the presence of a rare antibody called Rho(D) or anti-D in his blood. Mr Harrison's blood was indeed special. © Twitter/Danny Gonzales The antibody is produced in women who have Rh-negative blood and an Rh-positive foetus – the phenonmenon is called Rh incompatibility. The antibody in the mother's blood can prove fatal for the baby when it attacks the child's cells as an immune reaction. This antibody, that can also save the lives of babies, was found in abundant quantities in Mr Harrison's blood. The cause of his rare blood type is not certain but it is speculated that he could have received a wrong blood type during his blood transfusions. In such cases, the person often develops the antibody Rho(D) as an immune reaction. Every fortnight for sixty years, James Harrison has been making the trek to the Red Cross to donate blood. #9News | https://t.co/ZiY2jT1X46 pic.twitter.com/sivoQoKz5a — Nine News Sydney (@9NewsSyd) May 11, 2018 And so, the man kept donating his blood without fail, till the age of 81, for now he is well over the limit recommended by doctors. He recently donated his blood plasma for the last time, after doctors suggested him to stop donating for he was too old to be a donor now. The man now holds a Guinness World Record for his noble contribution. Here is a man who literally saved lives with his blood, and yet Mr Harrison is humble enough to dismiss it as something that was easy to do. And yet how many of us do the same? Not all heroes need capes.
  20. Ranbir Kapoor, like most actors in Bollywood, doesn't break a sweat while slipping into some dope-arse sneakers. He's what we'd call a 'sneakerhead', with a part of his head fixated on Alia Bhatt lately (pardon our humour). But that's like moving away from the core of this discussion. All we're saying is, if his recent outings are any indication, even today, the actor's hell-bent on scoring some iconic kicks and wearing them left, right and center. For his lunch date with mama Neetu Kapoor on Mother's Day yesterday, the actor stepped out in a rather casual outfit (a polo T-shirt + ripped jeans) and brought it to a close with his penchant for owning capital-F pair of sneakers. As a carry forward from his last sneaker-outing, that featured a pair of Off-White x Air Jordan 1s in an all-white colour way, this time, he took his Chicago-themed white, black and red pair for a spin. © Viral Bhayani As a matter of fact, Ranbir's worn these sneakers a couple of times in the past (in the year 2017). And his obsession with Air Jordans in life, is quite well-known anyway. Whether he's at a promotional event or is just even driving around in his Rover, on most occasions, you'd find him taking his Jordans out for a casual ride. Factually, the collab this pair belongs to (Off White and Air Jordan) ideally, was one of the biggest collaborations of 2017 and with Virgil Abloh (founder of Off White) and is informally also known as "The 10 edition". © Nike Its features broken down, there's a presence of deconstructed leather throughout the pair, a medial side with the branding "Off-White for Nike Air Jordan 1, Beaverton, Oregon, USA © 1985" on it and flappy ankle collars with "85" written on the inside, "Air" on the midsole and the Nike swoosh on lateral sides. All summed up, this is a dope pair of kicks, man. © Nike When the pair was launched in 2017, it retailed at a price of $190, unfortunately today, you'd find it really hard to score one. As the rule of popularity goes, since there are hardly any pairs left right now, there's been a major spike in the price of the pair. While on a few websites, you can pick the pair for around $600, the StockX (literally like the Sneaker Stock Exchange) says that the last bid for the pair was at $2,249. Phew. © Viral Bhayani But all said and done, thanks to the actor's knack of styling casual wear like casual wear, Ranbir went for a safe palette here, complimenting his baseball cap with the polo T-shirt. Of course, his signature sunnies were involved in the process and his black/gold timepiece was no far behind.
