  1. The long weekend is here and in case you're not doing anything, just being a couch potato, nursing bad health or loaded with work which barred you from leaving town, then my guess is that like most of us, binge-watching will be the only plan you'll have. Here are 5 interesting suggestions for you for this weekend: 1. Hanna- This drama series follows a 15-year-old girl, Hanna who is being hunted down by a CIA agent. This dark show could be a good binge watch for you! 2. The OA 2- Brit Marling is back with her brilliance. If you followed Prairie and her friends travelling across dimensions of time in the 1st season and were left shook with what followed, this one is more layered and complicated like something you didn't imagine. 3. McMafia- Nawaz fans already devoured it last year but in case you haven't, this is a good show to binge watch. The BBC drama has Nawaz playing a Mumbai importer, Dilly Mahmood. The series revolves around Alex Goldman who is brought up by Russian exiles. Makes for a good binge watch. 4. Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé- You don't need any more reasons to watch the madness and the sheer dedication that goes behind the planning of a Beyoncé concert. This is basically a testament of her persona, just watch it already. 5. Our Planet- This series explores the wonders of the world in eight parts. This insane project was in the works for over 4 years and was shot in over 50 countries. Just prepare to be mesmerised.
  2. The Indian cricket team comprises of numerous players who share more than just a good rapport with each other. And then, there are Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul whose bromance probably overshadows the camaraderie shared between other players in the team. From hanging out together on tours to exchanging their jerseys on the field, it's needless to say that the young duo is inseparable. However, the year 2019 started on a disastrous note for the Indian stars. The two cricketers were reprimanded for their demeanour on the popular TV show 'Koffee With Karan'. There was a lot of backlash on social media that in turn led to their respective suspensions at the hands of the Indian cricket board. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 It was arguably the lowest of lows in their respective careers. But, the two cricketers didn't let it affect their mindset as they won the fans back with spirited performances, upon their return, on the field. While Rahul looks determined in his batting approach for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Pandya, too, appears more focussed while carrying out his responsibilities for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. Their fall from grace seems to have brought the much-needed maturity into their approach towards the game. And, with the chat show controversy behind them, both Rahul and Pandya are looking to make the most of the opportunities with positive intent - something that was highlighted in the latter's latest Instagram post. View this post on Instagram Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year A post shared by Hardik Pandya (@hardikpandya93) on Apr 17, 2019 at 11:34am PDT On 18th April, Rahul turned 27. From his fans to teammates, everyone poured in heartfelt wishes for the Karnataka batsman. But, the one from Pandya clearly stood out. Taking to Instagram to wish his best mate, Pandya wrote: "Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year". Both Rahul and Pandya have been included in Team India's 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While Rahul will either provide a back-up option as an opener or might just get to play at the much-debated No. 4 slot, Pandya will add teeth to the Indian line-up with his all-around abilities.
  3. It's been 4 years since I cut the cord and if you're looking to switch from traditional TV to streaming content, you will probably need a streaming device for your TV. Yes, you can watch content on your smartphone but nothing really beats the big screen. I personally own almost every possible streaming device that you can buy in India, in every room. If you are looking for a streaming device for your room, look no further than this list: 1. Apple TV © BCCL It's probably our go-to streaming box that supports every App out there. As a part of the Apple ecosystem, you get access to thousands of applications on Apple's App Store. Apart from applications, Apple TV can also support casual gaming and with Apple Arcade on its way, you will be able to play console-level games on this device. The Apple TV plays host to every essential app such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube and Hotstar. Apple is also launching its own video streaming service which you can read more about here. You can even get the 4K version if you own a 4K television. 2. Google Chromecast/Ultra © BCCL Chromecast is by far our favourite casting device that can take care of every streaming need. You can even mirror your Google Chrome tabs if you want to stream content from third-party sources. In fact, some of the video players on websites have direct native support for Chromecast. Applications such as Netflix, YouTube, and Hotstar can also stream content directly to Chromecast via your smart device or the Chrome browser. It even supports Google Assistant which is a nifty feature to have if you want to stream content effortlessly. Even though Google doesn't sell Chromecast Ultra officially in India, you can still get your hands on one through unofficial channels. It supports 4K streaming across all applications. 3. Amazon Fire TV © Amazon It's probably our least favourite streaming device on our list as we find the operating system clunky and slow. It does not have native support for YouTube, which is a big negative point for us. The original FireStick TV's remote is also notorious for draining out batteries extremely quickly. Make sure you always have spare batteries or rechargeable batteries handy. In terms of content, FireStick TV does have native support for Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Hotstar. You can even use Kodi to manage your own library if you know what you're doing. There's also a 4K version available to buy which takes the viewing experience up by a notch. 4. Nvidia Shield TV © Nvidia Nvidia Shield is a device that is focused on streaming video but also appeals to gamers who own an Nvidia GPU. Nvidia Shield TV supports 4K resolution and HDR streaming based on the Android TV platform. You can play games from Android's app store or stream your PC games over WiFi. For 4K streaming, it supports all the major OTT services besides Hotstar.
  4. The early phase of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw a casual Jos Buttler getting a stark reminder of the forgotten and less-talked about 'Mankad' rule when Ravichandran Ashwin paused in his delivery stride before catching him short at the non-striker's end. Since then, the cricket world has been divided over upholding the spirit of the game and the advantage batsmen tend to gain by leaving the crease early. While the debate is still on, David Warner has showed everyone how a batsman can save himself from embarrassment that mankading tends to supply in abundance. During the 22nd match of the ongoing season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were slowly, but surely trying to consolidate on a key partnership between Warner and Vijay Shankar. WATCH: No, Warner doesn't want to get 'Mankaded' Full video ð¹ð¹https://t.co/feeK6QM0Nt #KXIPvSRH — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 8, 2019 The seventh over of Hyderabad's innings saw Warner taking extra precaution against Ashwin who seems to have left a doubt in the minds of opposition batsmen after mankading Buttler. In a bid to make sure he didn't follow in the footsteps of Buttler, Warner was seen leaning behind and stretching out his bat to keep it inside the crease as the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) captain delivered the ball to Shankar. How Warner backs up at non-striker's end for Mujeeb (head down pitch) vs. how Warner backs up at non-striker's end for Ashwin (head craned back at bowler's hand). pic.twitter.com/diDmlCo6sI — Peter Della Penna (@PeterDellaPenna) April 8, 2019 When Mujeeb Ur Rahman came into the attack, Warner was once again seen backing up at the non-striker's end by his head remained forward, facing down the pitch. However, during Ashwin's over, the Australian opener appeared more cautious as he turned his head around, carefully watching the bowler's hand. And, thanks to Warner's awareness, Hyderabad was aided with yet another brilliant knock by the Australian. Despite beginning the innings at a slow pace, Warner's 62-ball 70 powered the visitors to a 150-run total at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Chandigarh.
  5. Delhi Capitals (DC), the team which has seen a different side of themselves after the change in their name, have given a decent performance in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Winning three games out of the six they have played so far, Delhi have managed to maintain the fifth spot in the league table, courtesy the skipper; Shreyas Iyer. Always leading the team from the front, Iyer has been a crucial part of the DC in all the matches they have played till now. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Delhi Capitals (@delhicapitals) on Apr 7, 2019 at 7:23am PDT Starting off by scoring decent 30's and 40's in the first few matches, the DC captain managed to score a mind-boggling 67 against the wounded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their home ground on Sunday. Handing RCB their sixth consecutive loss by defeating them by four wickets, Iyer did not only win the match but also earned the third place in the race for 'The Orange Cap' by scoring 215 runs in all the six matches he has played. Now, settling with the perfect combination of his team, the Mumbai lad is at least expected to take his team, Delhi Capitals to the top four by the end of the season, if not winning the trophy.
  6. Diljit Dosanjh and Lilly Singh are two celebrities who are most popular with millennials all over the world. While Lilly Singh is a social media sensation across the globe, and enjoys huge following even in her motherland India, Diljit Dosanjh needs no introduction as such since his every other song has been doing all the talking for this terrific singer-turned-actor. While our man Diljit Dosanjh has been in the news for his upcoming Bollywood project 'Good News' which also stars Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and Kiara Advani. The video is on-point and totally relatable. © Instagram Lilly's caption for the video pretty much sums it up perfectly well: “When you meet someone from the motherland. This is DEF how Punjabis greet each other, complete with a 5 minute long hand holding session and family tree check in. To be honest, @diljitdosanjh and I aren't even acting... someone was just rolling when we met up.” Lilly was recently in India for the YouTube Fanfest and met up with Diljit who happens to be an old friend. These two go back a long way, and we totally love what they have whipped up.
  7. If you have been an ardent fan of the Indian cricket team in late 1990s and early 2000s, you would despise it whenever Matthew Hayden took to the crease against our bowlers. Hell, even the Men in Blue needed to rattle their brains in order to get this legend of a cricketer to return to the locker room. Such a terror was the former Aussie skipper. However, ever since the Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008, Hayden, who batted for Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings for the first three years (2008-10) before retiring, was welcomed by the people of Chennai with open arms because of the level of success he brought to the “whistle podu” franchise. Finally, when Hayden took to the commentary box to stay connected to the game he loves so much and show off his speaking skills, he truly became one of our favourites. Also, there is something about tall, international players in 'lungis' that no Indian fan can get over, period. We have to make them one of our own once they have worn lungi in public, it's an unspoken code. Well, that's exactly what the 6'1'' athlete from Down Under did a couple of days ago when he was spotted at Chennai's heavily populated area of T Nagar, shopping. Disguised in fake beard and mustache, Haydos covered his head with a fisherman's hat, looking all dapper in a brand new lungi. View this post on Instagram Bit of undercover shopping at T Nagar Street Mall in Chennai @starsportsindia @iplt20 @chennaiipl A post shared by Matthew Hayden (@haydos359) on Apr 1, 2019 at 8:10am PDT “Bit of undercover shopping at T Nagar Street Mall in Chennai,” wrote the Australian on his Instagram post. But, why go through the trouble to stick fake hairs to your face, only to head out in the public? According to an interview with the Times of India, Hayden was challenged to do so by his buddy and former Australian teammate Shane Warne. “It was a challenge by Warne to buy items for under Rs 1000. That's why I went around the market to buy some lungis, shirts, Rajini sunnies and a watch,” he said. Hayden was also assisted by a local boy, whom he remembered to thank for winning the bet: “I paid the boy Rs 100. And I can proudly tell you that I won the challenge (with Warne).”
  8. Hardik Pandya might have courted controversy on his last TV show appearance. He may have deservedly attracted flak and, later, suspension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his comments. And, more recently, he might have been summoned by Indian cricket board's Ombudsman, Justice DK Jain, to be present for the hearings in relation to his controversial remarks about women. But, despite all that, hand this young lad a cricket bat and he'll show you what an absolute nightmare he can be for the opposition bowlers - something that's becoming more of a trend in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. The 25-year-old began this season with a forgettable duck against Delhi Capitals (DC) who eventually shocked the three-time IPL champions with a 37-run triumph. But, since then, there's been no looking back for Pandya. Twitter/@IPL He smashed a 14-ball 32 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and, then, a 19-ball 31 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). But, he saved his best for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who bore the brunt of Pandya's willow at the Wankhede stadium on 3rd April. Against RCB, Pandya's blitzkrieg allowed Mumbai to accelerate from an average-looking 145 after 16 overs to a competitive 187 after 20. And, at home against CSK, the swashbuckling right-hander, once again, got a meandering Mumbai innings out of a ditch with an absolute carnage of an innings. Coming out to bat in the 17th over, Hardik swapped places with elder brother Krunal and was looking to give more strike to settled Suryakumar Yadav. He couldn't score a run on his first delivery and then a single on the second got him off strike in the 18th over. But, after Yadav got dismissed on the last delivery of the over, the right-handed batsman knew it was time to unleash the beast. Twitter/@IPL He smashed Shardul Thakur for a towering six over square leg on the first delivery of the penultimate over and followed it up with a single. With Hardik off strike, Kieron Pollard could only manage seven runs off four deliveries including a six on the fifth ball. At 141/5, with just six deliveries to go, both Hardik and Pollard knew they needed to up the ante to help Mumbai post a competitive total. M15: MI vs CSK – Hardik Pandya Six https://t.co/GjfmMNB7va via @ipl — Dixit Bhargav (@dixitbhargav09) April 3, 2019 While Pollard smashed a six on the third delivery (a no-ball) and ran three runs on the legitimate ball (a free-hit), Hardik went hammer and tongs at Dwayne Bravo on the last three balls of the final over. He helicoptered Bravo's yorker into the top tier - something MS Dhoni would have also enjoyed - on the fourth delivery. Then, he punched a drive through extra cover for a boundary. And, finally, slashing a fuller delivery over third man to finish with a six. MUST WATCH: The Pollard-Pandya last over carnage ð®ð® Full video here â¶ï¸https://t.co/7kgiaB3Nsc #MIvCSK pic.twitter.com/pLdU2pyRID — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 3, 2019 A staggering 29 runs came off Bravo's final over wherein Hardik was responsible for 17, Pollard scored 10 and two came as extras. From reeling at 119/4 in 17 overs, Mumbai romped their way to 170/5 - thanks to a slambang 8-ball 25 from Hardik and 7-ball 17 from Pollard. In 37 innings since the 2017 edition of the IPL, Hardik has come in to bat with roughly 26 balls remaining in the innings, which is extremely low for a hitter of his ability in a T20 game. While that may raise questions on Mumbai's decision to keep him much down the batting order, it undoubtedly highlights what kind of an influence, in just a few deliveries, this young bloke can have on a game - something Team India would need in the all-important ICC World Cup, slated to begin from 30th May.
  9. John Abraham's second innings as an on-screen spy is just about to begin with his upcoming spy thriller 'Romeo Akbar Walter' ready to hit the theatres this Friday. However, unlike last time in 'Madras Cafe', John will be seen in eight different looks in 'RAW'. Now since that seems like quite a task to pull off in a single film, all with prosthetics, heavy makeup and costumes in place, the makers of the film did not leave any stone unturned to do justice to the character's many requirements. © Viacom 18 Consequently, the makers of the film brought National Award-winning makeup and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh onboard to work his magic on John and create his looks in 'RAW'. Recently, John took to his Instagram to share the journey of his transformation with his fans. The video shows John getting ready for one of the most difficult looks in the film, that of a bushy old man. View this post on Instagram I would like to thank my team who made this happen! Preetisheel has done a commendable job on John with this one. 'RAW' is set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pak war of 1971, and traces the journey of a bank employee trained as an Indian spy. He is sent to Pakistan to gather intel for the Indian forces, when the two countries are on the verge of war. The trailer of 'RAW' created quite a buzz with its intense and riveting cinematography. Also starring Jackie Shroff as a RAW Chief, Sikander Kher as John's nemesis, Mouni Roy as the female lead, there are a lot of intriguing aspects which will come unravelled in 'RAW - Romeo, Akbar, Walter'. The film is set to hit the theatres on 5th April, 2019.
  10. For a team that has often been labelled as the underachievers of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals (DC) made a roaring start to shrug off past disappointments in the 2019 edition. The Shreyas Iyer-led side stunned three-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in their opening match before a narrow loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). But, a spirited show against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) that saw them record their second win of the season after surviving a nerve-wreaking one-over eliminator, highlighted Delhi's improved character this season. Having secured two wins out of three games, Capitals were on their way to record their third triumph before Sam Curran's sensational hat-trick turned the game in Kings XI Punjab's favour. Sam Curran, you beauty ð¥ð¥#VIVOIPL pic.twitter.com/3ls47GBt0t — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 1, 2019 Chasing a total of 166 runs, Delhi were cruising at 144/3 in 16.3 overs before suffering a massive batting collapse. The visitors lost seven wickets in a mere 17 deliveries as Punjab pulled off a 14-run win out of the jaws of what initially seemed like a certain defeat. Mohammed Shami and Sam Curran were the heroes for Punjab, but it was arguably the young Englishman whose figures of 4-11 (including a sensational hat-trick) made the difference. For someone who had earlier slammed a 10-ball 20 before rattling Delhi's line-up with the ball, Curran was rightly adjudged the 'Man of the Match'. But, after impressing everyone with his batting and bowling, the 20-year-old saved the best for the last as he was seen flaunting his 'Bhangra moves' with KXIP owner Preity Zinta after their cracking win. ðºðºðº Some bhangra moves there, courtesy @realpreityzinta & @CurranSM ðð pic.twitter.com/VAeXq3I07o — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 1, 2019 A brief video of the Curran's dance with Zinta was, later, shared on the official handle of the IPL. 11. Netflix is a Pandora's box which keeps spoiling us with a million options to choose from. This week, if you're in for a bit of a sci-fi kick just like us, then here are 5 show recommendations that will give you a pretty edgy visual experience: 1. The OA If you didn't watch the first season when it came out around 3 years ago, then please prepare to binge-watch that first. For everyone else who was left on a cliffhanger with that weird metaphysical ending and hated Prairie for not letting us in on her fate, the second season is finally here and is supposed to be crazy. 2. Love, Death + Robots This is probably the most trending sci-fi show that everyone is talking about even if they haven't really watched it. This animated series has episodes with major underlying themes in all of them and is supposed to be worth your time. 3. The Order Consider this as a borrowed Harry Potter concept twisted with the sci-fi world. The series follows a college student who discovers a whole new world of scary creatures and is surrounded by only werewolves for company. 4. Russian Doll Not that it's a new addition to Netflix. It's been there for a while, but if you still haven't watched it, save it for a weekend binge. It will make you cringe and boggle your head when you follow the lead character's life span cycle which is like a roller coaster stuck on repeat. If you want to question scientific multidimensional reality and also like a bit of existentialism like 'Waiting For Godot', then just watch this. 5. Travellers This show follows a bunch of travellers who send their consciousness back in time to actually save the society from a downfall. A secret time travel show with a heroic mission thrown in? sure, sounds like a good watch.
  12. A couple of days ago, the cricket fraternity found itself split into two when Kings XI Punjab's captain Ravichandran Ashwin 'mankaded' Rajasthan Royals (RR) hitter Jos Buttler in an exciting matchup during the first week of the twelfth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). For the better half of RR's batting, it felt as if Jos Buttler was single handedly going to win the team's first match of the season as Punjab bowlers grew restless. Finally, in the 13th over, Ashwin did something cricketers from all around the world frown upon. Halfway into his bowling action, he stopped and hit the stumps at the non-striker's end to appeal for a run-out as Buttler was a step outside of the crease. Cricketing fans from all over the world had some strong opinions about the incident. People like Dale Steyn and Eoin Morgan were absolutely livid with Ashwin's actions, calling him out in public for his lack of sportsmanship, and of setting a bad example for the future generation of talented cricketers India will be producing in the coming years. He ain't winning any spirit of cricket awards is old ashwin — Dale Steyn (@DaleSteyn62) March 25, 2019 On the other hand people came of Ashwin's rescue saying that whatever he did was not illegal and was well within the ICC rules of cricket and therefore should not be bashed so much. Former Test opener for the Indian side, Aakash Chopra even promoted the idea of more and more bowlers mankading after the match between Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday. Missed Opportunity....more bowlers need to start running batsmen out at the non-striker's end. It's a 22-yard pitch...don't let them make it 20 yards. #Unfair pic.twitter.com/qeGBDocU8G — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) March 27, 2019 The issue snowballed into something so dramatic that legends of the game like Shane Warne and Harsha Bhogle indulged in an ugly Twitter battle as well. Believe it or not but this isn't the first time Ashwin has 'mankaded' someone. Back in 2012 in an ODI match against Sri Lanka, Ashwin did the same to Lahiru Thirimanne. However, back then the leadership of the roster was in the hands of legends like Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, who overruled Ashwin's appeal when asked by the umpires and asked the Sri Lankan batsman to return to the crease. Such was the class with which the Men in Blue used to play the game. Players like Tendulkar, Sehwag and even MS Dhoni for that matter have grown as elite cricketers and respectful athletes who have the heart of a champion, sure, but did not settle to sell their morals in order to win a game. The 'win at all costs' notion that has plagued sports in recent years has completely gone against the very ideals of sports. Discipline, honour, mutual respect, everything goes out of the window as soon as the greed of getting that extra number in the points table takes over. What Ashwin did was well within the rules as Harsha Bhogle's gone on and on about in the past three days but would players like Tendulkar and Sehwag do something like this, or better yet, be proud of it? We think not.
  13. Have you ever witnessed a fashion show IRL or on TV/social media and wondered who these elaborate designs were meant to target, or why these shows are all filled with seemingly unwearable clothes which would not work in real life at all? © Studio picsing But here's the thing, everyday fast fashion brands like H&M, Zara, Nike or any other mass-market brands will never showcase something like that in their stores or campaign about it. We are talking about high, creative fashion labels here, created by designers and marketed off as luxury goods and de rigueur fashion. But realistically speaking, obviously, every label and every designer intends to sell what they're making. No fashion house can survive if it were only manufacturing unwearable clothes, considering the kind of budget and effort it takes to organise a show. So, you should calculate by now that these ridiculous pieces seen on the runway will never end up in boutiques or department stores of the label. So, how does the production of bizarre clothes add up? Firstly, not every label plays the game of exhibiting dramatic theatrics. Most labels don't even throw individual shows. A singular example of a show being thrown individually by a label is Shantanu & Nikhil. Most fashion houses can't even afford a runway and are limited to a showroom they open during the Fashion Week. © Studio picsing But for the labels who do have a runway, a lot of them organise to the mark Prêt-à-Porter collection, (i.e ready-to-wear, clothes that can be bought right off the rack). For example, for LMIFW, there was a separate exhibition area for buyers to access and cherrypick the clothes that they like. But coming to clothes that are designed in a fashion incomprehensible by many, we're talking huge sleeves or alternatively narrow skirts that cinch the knees that would restrict function, or ginormous hats etcetera. Fashion is not only about looking pretty and staying up to date with trends, but it is also art, just like any other major streams like literature. Think of it this way, your go-to work wear or a plain white tee are not fleshed out enough to be turned into powerful artistic exhibits. A great analogy would be the kind of things you see in the museum of modern art. Aside from the paintings, most structures and moulds are not intended to be bought and displayed in homes because that's not practical or long-lasting to that effect, considering how fragile some of these pieces might be. Secondly, runway shows have to have elements and themes that send across the message that label wants its audience to know, to that effect, they introduce props, background music, graphics and sometimes even fantastical elements to put the theme across. Think of a runway sans these elements, people who go to the fashion week sometimes have to sit through six to eight or more a day, and if there is no unique individuality to each label, these shows might be bland for the spectators. Labels for that reason also, curate a theme that sets the tone and creates a vibe for shows in order for them to stand out. For example, LMIFW saw Prashant Verma's musical runway in which he too participated in the way of singing Harold Arlen's classic 'Over the Rainbow' while women of all ages received an 'Oscar' in their Victorian-esque grand tulle and satin gowns. © fdci Which brings me to my third point, taking Prashant Verma's A/W19 runway into consideration, sometimes through their clothes and the runway, designers sometimes set out to make a statement. Prashant Verma's show, called the 'Miracle Show' could be interpreted in many ways of which one could projecting the walk of life in five minutes on a runway or the struggles that people face in life and that each struggle deserves an award for it. Sometimes, shows shouldn't be taken at face value and should be considered "l'art pour l'art", a French slogan which translates to 'art for art's sake'. Realistically speaking, these shows do, however, render the label with publicity and media coverage on a level that otherwise improves the visibility of a label and works well for the designer profitably that way too. © fdci Lastly, a lot of times the overly dramatic runway pieces are made subtle and more realistic for the racks. The runway piece is an exaggeration of a trend that the label might want to incorporate in their own collection. By making the motives clear far and wide, the simmered down versions of the collection are obviously made wearable for the buyers. So, to answer your question, you will probably not spot runway pieces on the street, especially ones that restrict any kind of movement unless it's an exhibit, in which case, so is the runway in more ways than one.
  14. If the subject intrigued or interested you then welcome, my friend, to this world of complexity where our minds entangle in a web of ignorance, our relationships are going haywire, egos are inflating higher than the diesel prices and life is one big sad joke which keeps us grooving anyway. Well, fiction is a great escape from reality but what happens when you binge-watch shows which mirror the confusion of your life? Here are our personal 6 recommendations which show the complexity of modern relationships with a lot of humour. 1. How I Met Your Mother If you have already watched it and you're looking for something on similar lines, then hold on, this can be a list for your next 'binge watch'. Barney Stinson and Ted Mosby taught us a lot about how relationships work, if you can look beyond the fact that many rule it out as something similar to 'FRIENDS'. 2. Rules Of Engagement Okay, this will give you a major HIMYM déjà vu, so consider it like a home remedy of that hangover. Two couples and their single friend embark on a journey called 'life' with the complexities of their relationship pushing and pulling them. 3. Happy Endings This is another modern day, super relatable show about six friends who find it difficult to keep their relationships intact when the couple who got them all together decide to break up. 4. You're The Worst Probably my favourite on the list and a well kept secret which is actually a 'millenial gem', if I may call it. This one involves two narcissistic, selfish humans, who, despite their insecurities and mental health issues, try to mend their relationship time and again. This one is so relatable, it will be hard for you to believe it's actually fiction. 5. Lovesick This British comedy looks at the dark side of millennial relationships, which often involve the subject of sexual health of our partners. Dylan is a 20-something man who is diagnosed with an STD. The adventure begins when he peeks into his past and goes back to all his lovers to know their diagnosis. 6. Friends From College This one deals with people in their 40s who appear to be slightly better than their so-called millennial counterparts, but are equally screwed in the head. Well, modern relationships do have their shortcomings and these shows take full advantage of that reality.
  15. After losing the 2-match T20I series in a rather disappointing fashion, Indian cricket fans saw a ray of hope when the Men in Blue went on a great run, winning the first two ODIs in the five-match series, with Indian batsmen--including Virat Kohli, Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni playing some brilliant innings. However, after losing the Ranchi ODI by 32 runs, all eyes were on Kohli's men giving their best in order to come out victorious in Mohali, winning the series with the Delhi game still in hand. After scoring a massive total of 358, the win looked almost certain, all we had to do was bowl the 50 overs as there was no way the Aussie were going to chase such a score. Who knew Aaron Finch's men would get some extra boost as the Indian cricketers created some major goof ups in the form of dropped catches, misfields and dropped catches (so many dropped catches). And then the unthinkable happened. Not only did the Australians chase the massive total, they did it with more than two overs to spare. Following the loss, one of the Indian cricketers who found himself taking a major share of the blame was the Indian wicket keeper Rishabh Pant who missed out on major stumping opportunities at crucial junctions of the game. To make matters worse, the 21-year-old also dropped a couple of catches behind the wicket. The fact that veteran keeper and former captain of the team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni wasn't a part of the playing XI and Pant had to replace his presence led to all the MS Dhoni fans putting on a barrage of brutal criticisms, taunting his inability as a wicketkeeper whilst comparing him to a veteran like Dhoni. As the day ended, a lot of people came forward to show their support for the player who had suffered a lot of firing in the past 24 hours. While his childhood coach, Tarak Sinha called all the comparisons between Dhoni and Pant completely unfair, the Delhi-born cricketer got support from a rather unexpected source. He's just 21 and represents India in all 3 formats. Let's introspect and see what we were doing at that age. Give him a chance. @RishabPant777 u are pure talent keep the focus, you got this ! pic.twitter.com/GDySpRgiGU — Suniel Shetty (@SunielVShetty) March 11, 2019 Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty came to the young athlete's rescue reminding everyone of the fact that having been only 21 years old, Pant is one of the top choices for the team in all three formats of the game. Shetty also goes on to urge everyone who's criticising the talented star to introspect and realise what they were doing when they were of his age. Finally, he requests the ever-so-passionate fans of the game to give Pant a chance as he is destined for greatness and great things are in store for him. Wise words.
  16. The much-awaited first teaser of the upcoming period drama 'Kalank' is finally out amidst much hype. The movie marks Dharma Production venturing into the Sanjay Leela Bhansali genre with a period drama that is set in the pre-independence era. The onus lies on the love story between Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, but the teaser shows a heart broken Alia marrying Aditya Roy Kapur instead. © Dharma Productions Besides the three leads, the movie brings together Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Diixit after an insane hiatus. Also Sonakshi Sinha will be seen in a pivotal role. Sure, the teaser ensures us that this will be a stunning visual delight but however, it's not something you feel like you haven't already watched before. The movie is directed by Abhishek Varman and is set to release on 17th April.
  17. The Men in Blue are currently guests in the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's hometown of Ranchi for the crucial third of five ODIs against Team Australia, scheduled to take place on 8th March 2019. It is a well-known fact that a major reason why the Jharkhand capital is known globally is because of the inspirational ascend of the wicket-keeper batsman, who rose from the streets and went on the win big trophies for the country, in a game which is treated as a religion. Dhoni is a star, nay, a god in Ranchi. Tourists from all over the world visit the city literally to be a part of a 'Dhoni Tour'. Where he went to have tea, his locker room, his favourite place to sit back and experience Ranchi cricket in all its glory, everything has been well documented by the cricketing world. Now that the prodigal son has returned, the streets are his to rule. An automobile enthusiast, Dhoni has a massive garage of beasts like Ferrari 599 GTO and GMC Sierra 3500HD but the car that our 'Captain Cool' is particularly fond of, is his silver Hummer H2 (probably because that's the only car out of his collection that would move on Indian roads and over monstrous speed-breakers). Whenever Dhoni is in Ranchi, he loves to move around in his shiny Hummer. Remember the time Thala rode past the New Zealand squad in his supercar while Kiwi batsman Ross Taylor's jaw dropped to the floor? Remember when Dhoni drove to the ground with his Hummer and NZ players were left in awe ðð. Look at Ross's face. Mass pic.twitter.com/6JpE1AdWEY — Naveen (@ImNsamy) March 6, 2019 This time around, ahead of the third ODI against the Aussies, Dhoni decided to take the youngsters of the team, Rishabh Pant and Kedar Jadhav, for a spin in the H2. As expected, the car was surrounded by Dhoni's most ardent fans making it difficult for the cricketers to even get inside SUV. 18. Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, better known as The Mountain from the hit HBO franchise, 'Game of Thrones', is a big man. Weighing in at 195 kg, Björnsson, has not only made us skip a beat with his massive structure in the show, but is also making headlines all over, as the strongest man in the world. That is not an exaggeration. In 2018,'Thor' Björnsson went on to win the Arnold's Classic, followed by Europe's Strongest Match. He capped the year by winning the most prestigious competition of them all, 'The World's Strongest Man', as he became the first person to win all the three highly reputed competitions in a single year, according to his website. While The Mountain set a world record in deadlifting last year when he did a WR Elephant Bar Deadlift (471.69 kg/1039.9 lbs), he decided to outdo himself by an extra five pounds at the 2019 Arnold's Classic, as he shattered his own world record, which now sits at an impressive 474 kg/1044.9lbs mark which is nearly two and a half times his body weight! "Very happy with day 1 here at The Arnold Strongman Classic even though 501 will have to wait for another day. Looking forward to day 2. I appreciate all the support guys, thank you!" Yes, you guessed it. Around the same time next year (or even sooner), Björnsson might try to deadlift weights worth half a ton! Just to put things into perspective, that's how much an elephant weighs in his teenage days. In another Instagram upload after the win, Björnsson thanked his sponsors, best friends and nutritional coach for their constant support during his exceptional journey. He did not forget to thank his wife Kelsey Henson, who he considers to be the lucky charm for him. 19. Tennis is a sport in which you don't lose the match until the last point. We have seen players turning around the game from the match-point and winning the match. Making a comeback is what makes the crowd and fans go wild. Something similar happened yesterday in the Mexican Open where, arguably the most notorious player on tour, Nick Kyrgios came back from a set down to win the match 3-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(6). The Australian didn't seem completely in-sync with his game in the first set, which was mainly because he was feeling sick. Once the first set was over, Kyrgios called out the trainer and said that he felt unwell but would play on as he feared the media would "blow it up". © AP The Kyrgios that we all have known for these many years has done what he has wanted without caring what the people would say. There have been many instances where he has forfeited the match just because he didn't want to go ahead with it. But surprisingly, here we witnessed a side of Kyrgios which we haven't seen ever before. Despite feeling sick, he didn't quit and returned for the second set completely changing the momentum of the game. The revelling in the atmosphere caused a frustrated Nadal to call for the crowd to settle down. But the warning didn't seem to affect the 23-year-old. He produced some fantastic shots throughout the second set and broke the Spaniard in the tie-breaker. After calling for the trainer again between the second and third sets due to a sore back, Kyrgios went on to save five break points in the sixth game of the final set. He once again fought over his weakness in the deciding tiebreak, particularly on the second match point when his volley caught the tape but toppled over and landed on the line. The win against Rafa meant a lot to the Aussie as it was for the first time that he came back from behind to defeat the World No.2. This sole incident has definitely overshadowed all his nitty game antics and has made people praise him for his game. View this post on Instagram THIS is what it means to @k1ngkyrg1os ð . 20. MWC 2019 is in full swing and it's all about 5G and foldable phones. Even before the tradeshow started, Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold alongside the S10 and grabbed everyone's attention. This was soon followed by Huawei's Mate X, however, the two folding phones have a different approach and are the hottest products in town. Now, OPPO has also joined the bandwagon and revealed the images of their "concept" folding phones. OPPO VP Brian Shen shared a few pictures of the concept phone on Weibo and said the company isn't planning on shipping the phone unless there is sufficient demand. The most interesting part of the phone is its design though. © Weibo The pictures reveal a phone that looks eerily similar to Huawei's Mate X. A single large OLED panel wraps around both the sides when folded, instead of folding towards the inside (like the Galaxy Fold). A bar on the outside houses a dual camera setup and offers grip in holding the tablet-cum phone. Shen said, that he doesn't think a foldable phone brings significant improvement in user experience and hence OPPO is refraining from mass producing the phone right now. Basically, OPPO intends to let Samsung and Huawei launch their offerings, analyse the market response, and then decide whether the product is viable in short-term. © Weibo Xiaomi has also confirmed that it is working on a foldable phone with dual-fold technology. We've previously seen them teasing a similar prototype, and expect the brand to join the trend in the coming future. OPPO hasn't named the concept yet and even the internal specifications remain unknown. With so many companies trying to make their mark, it's ultimately going to be good for the consumer. Samsung and Huawei are charging upwards of US$ 2,000 (Rs 1,42,000) for the foldable phones right now, and with more companies joining the trend and investing in development, the costs are bound to gradually come down. © Weibo So far, OPPO has announced it will launch a phone with 10x "lossless" zoom technology in the second quarter of this year. The phone will have a triple-lens camera structure including a 48-megapixel main camera, 120-degree ultra-wide lens and a telephoto lens. "Our 10x Lossless Zoom is mass-production-ready and will appear in a product soon," said Chuck Wang, Product Manager, OPPO.
  21. In the last two months, on a couple of occasions, former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has found himself in one of the most tricky scenarios for any batsmen. When the middle order collapses faster than melting ice, Dhoni's ability to stay on the crease has forced him to try and build partnerships with tailenders, especially when the Indian cricket team is not doing so well coming up with a respectable total to pose a real threat to the opposition. Under such 'Do or Die' circumstances, Dhoni is known to often stick with the third option: stay on the line and try to build a good total, even if it means that his knock is relatively slower than how it should have been; the alternative being getting out while going for a hasty shot. During the first Twenty20 match against the visiting Australian cricket team, Dhoni was put under a similar situation yet again. With Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and Krunal Pandya sent back to the dressing room for cheap, Dhoni had one and only one objective in his head: Help India play till the end. Agreed, his pace was too slow, especially for a T20I match, even then India played all 20 overs and were able to put a number which was a lot more than it could have been if Mahi had gotten out in foolishness. If we had won the game, the narrative towards Dhoni's batting would certainly have been a lot different but because all wasn't rosy at the end, he was scrutinised by the self-proclaimed cricket pundits online: Ball to Dhoni ð #INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/XPqVIHoh3B — Roshan Rai (@RoshanKrRai) February 24, 2019 #INDvAUS Waiting for Dhoni to hit his first boundary of the innings pic.twitter.com/zzZ2kh6I3s — Faking News (@fakingnews) February 24, 2019 Does MSD think only he can bat..?.. Doesnt good sight to see that he can't even give strike to #9 and he himself won't score.. not good at all..#Dhoni #INDvAUS — Akshay Hegde (@AAkshayHegde) February 24, 2019 However, Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell came to the veteran's rescue when he said it was “fair enough” for Dhoni to turn down singles with his innings coming to an end, especially due to the slow and low nature of the pitch. According to cricket.com.au, Maxwell said: "MS is obviously a world-class finisher and even he was finding it hard to hit the middle of the bat… I think it was right of him to try and farm the strike and he hit a six in the last over… If you're holding MS to one boundary in the last few overs it's a pretty good effort and also a sign of the conditions as well.” There is not doubting Dhoni's abilities to finish games for the Men in Blue. More often than not, we have seen the man perform to the best of his abilities in clutch situations while also winning games with massive sixes on the last ball. It was just one of those days when things didn't turn out to be the way one hoped for. Even then, the fact that the Indian side was able to hold off the Australians to a nail-biting last-ball game winner was made possible with a great deal of credit going to MS Dhoni.
  22. Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team have been on a roll ever since the beginning of 2019. Having won the Test and ODI series in Australia and the ODI series in New Zealand has not only led to a number of individual awards for the Men in Blue but also gave a confidence boost to the team. Kohli himself has been on a tear with 2018 being his year without doubt. For his brilliance as the captain of a very capable Indian side and his exceptional skills with the bat, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to honour the athlete with three of the most prestigious awards during the ICC Awards last month. ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year â ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year â ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year â Captain of ICC Test Team of the Year â Captain of ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year â Let's hear from the man himself, @imvKohli! #ICCAwards ð pic.twitter.com/3M2pxyC44n — ICC (@ICC) January 22, 2019 Currently ranked number 2 in the ICC Ranking for ODI teams, India consists of some very talented batsmen in Virat Kohli (World Rank 1), Rohit Sharma (World Rank 2) and Shikhar Dhawan (World Rank 10) and bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah (World Rank 1), Kuldeep Yadav (World Rank 4) and Yuzvendra Chahal (World Rank 5) who have helped immensely in restricting the opponents to lower totals. There is no doubting that the Indian cricket team is one of the greatest sides in today's era and is considered to be one of the favourites for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. However, there is another team that has been having one of the most iconic runs in the modern age. The England cricket team has literally been on top of their game throughout 2018. Ranked number 1 on ICC ODI team rankings, Eoin Morgan's team might as well be the greatest team England has ever cheered for. While hitter Joe Root (World Rank 4) and one of the finest English all-rounders in Moeen Ali (World Rank 5) have contributed heavily towards keeping their side on top, players like Adil Rashid (World Rank 8) and Chris Woakes (World Rank 12) have been a terror for the rival batsmen. In the latest display of their brilliance, during the first of five ODI games to take place against the Windies, England chased down a massive score of 360 runs with extremely ease nullifying Chris Gayle's heroic comeback innings in which he scored his 24th ODI century while hitting 12 long sixes. What an incredible victory for England! They've chased down 361 – it's England's highest successful run-chase in ODI cricket! Winning with an over and a half and 6 wickets in hand, England get the world know that they are already world cup-ready. While teams like New Zealand and South Africa along with a replenished Australian side (with in return of Steve Smith and David Warner) will make for some tough competition, it will be Morgan's men who will surely pose the greatest threat to Virat Kohli's dream of lifting the world cup as the captain of the Indian cricket team.
