  1. It's Father's Day tomorrow and while a social media post doesn't quite suffice for thanking the most important man in our life, it won't hurt to let him know that you love him. Since fathers are the source of our inspiration and the light of guidance for all of us, here are 5 TV characters who played the role of absolute badass fathers and nailed it: 1. Walter White in 'Breaking Bad' A chemistry teacher going through a mid-life crisis and fighting deadly cancer turns into a complete badass when he realises that selling drugs is his only escape to make ends meet for his family to survive. 2. Brad Wolgast in 'The Passage' Brad Wolgast is a federal agent who, even though is not the biological father of Amy, loves and protects her like his own. He saves her from being a pawn in a medical experiment, which is being conducted in a medical facility aided by the government. 3. Logan Roy in 'Succession' He gives his kids a hard time but that is because he believes they need to go through it, as the world is unfair and you have to be strong. Logan makes sure his kids know the value of what they inherit. 4.David Budd in 'Bodyguard' A war veteran suffering from PTSD works in the police protection force as a bodyguard, and he knows how to protect his kin, fiercely. His kind yet strong personality makes him a great onscreen dad. 5.John Winchester in 'Supernatural' John was blinded by revenge and spent most of his time hunting and drinking. He sometimes looks like he's a callous dad but he is very protective of Sam and Dean and even gives up his life for his sons. It's that very tough upbringing that made Sam and Dean one of the finest hunters in the world.
  2. There's nothing better than finding a sharp comeback or quoting something wise when your back is against the wall. Words can indeed be mightier than a sword. Following are some of the most awesome comebacks from famous movies or TV series which you can use on one occasion or the other: 1. When You Tell A Joke And Your Friend Doesn't Laugh: “I'll explain and I'll use small words so that you'll be sure to understand.” —The Princess Bride 2. When Your Friend Does A Silly Thing: “You are what the French call, les incompetent.” – Home Alone 3. When Someone Goes Below The Belt: “You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.” – Toy Story 4. When Your Crush Asks You If She Should Laugh At Your Silly Joke: “Go ahead, make my day.” – Sudden Impact 5. When Someone Roasts You Badly In A Group: “You talking to me?” – Taxi Driver 6. When Your Girlfriend Complains You Drink Too Much: “Well, nobody's perfect.” – Some Like It Hot 7. When Your Bae Asks Why Are You Visiting The Friends/Relatives You Hate: “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.” – The Godfather II 8. When A Guy You Hate Tells You He'll Destroy You In Front Of Your Bae: "You come at the king, you best not miss." – The Wire 9. When Someone Is Trying To Roast You: “You're boring me.” – Blackish 10. When Your Drunk A*s Gets Into A Fight With The Bouncer & Your Friends Ask You To Chill: “I laugh in the face of danger!” – The Lion King Whatever the situation is, a wise-ass reply will make you savage!
  3. On Sunday, when the Indian cricket team faced off against Aaron Finch's Team Australia at The Oval in London, Virat Kohli's batting order showed its true potential with three batsmen scoring half-tons and Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan leading the charge from the front, scoring 117 in just 109 balls. After getting his thumb broken, thanks to a scary bouncer in the middle of his innings, Dhawan played through the excruciating pain of a broken bone to accomplish his third World Cup century that helped the Men in Blue establish a grand total of 352 runs in 50 overs. Once Dhawan was dismissed at the hands of Mitchell Starc in the 37th over, he rushed to the medical room where he was diagnosed with a fractured thumb and was asked to rest for the next two games. Eventually, the severity of the injury came to the fore which benched the athlete for at least two weeks. But the fighter in Shikhar Dhawan did not allow him to sit back and compromise on his fitness for long. Five days since the lefty broke his thumb, Dhawan was back in the gym, working on himself, making sure that he will be ready to serve his country in the blue uniform whenever the time comes. You can make these situations your nightmare or use it an opportunity to bounce back. ð Thank you for all the recovery messages from everyone. ðpic.twitter.com/mo86BMQdDA — Shikhar Dhawan (@SDhawan25) June 14, 2019 “You can make these situations your nightmare or use it (as) an opportunity to bounce back. Thank you for all the recovery messages from everyone,” Dhawan wrote in the video caption on Twitter. That's what Shikhar Dhawan is all about. Bouncing back from an injury or bad form and returning to the pitch with a bang. That's what he has been doing for years and that's why we love the guy. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Team India's Gabbar.
  4. Forbes just dropped their annual and much-awaited list of the world's 100 most highly paid sportsmen in the year 2019 and while some of the rankings were obvious, others were straight-out shocking and gave a sense of reality about the fan-following of various sports both inside and outside of India. To begin with the list-toppers, Lionel Messi became the highest paid athlete in the world at a whopping $127 million, which is $18 million more than the second person on the list, Cristiano Ronaldo, followed by Brazil sensation, Neymar Jr. at $105 million. This makes it for the very first time that footballers have dominated the top three spots of such a list. Global soccer icon Lionel Messi is only the 2nd soccer player to rank No. 1 on Forbes' list of World's Highest-Paid Athletes, after longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo pic.twitter.com/4cLyTSZHtT — Forbes (@Forbes) June 11, 2019 Other world-known sports celebrities to make it in the top 10 include names like Roger Federer (Rank 5; Pay $93.4 million), Lebron James (Rank 8; Pay $89 Million) and Stephen Curry (Rank 9; Pay $79.8 million). Moving past the traditional endorsement model in many cases, LeBron James is the 8th highest-paid athlete in the world, and the highest-paid NBA player pic.twitter.com/A2CW3RvGsy — Forbes (@Forbes) June 11, 2019 Some of the shocking rankings include Serena Williams who is not only considered the unofficial face of women's tennis but has a massive payout of $25 million, thanks to her sponsors like Nike, Gatorade and Wilson. Having said that, Williams has had a bad year on the court, resulting in her 2019 'salary' plummeting to $4.2 million and bringing her down to rank #63. Tied for the No. 63 spot with Miguel Cabrera, Serena Williams is the only female on this year's list of the world's 100 highest-paid athletes pic.twitter.com/fkXrrAxMFX — Forbes (@Forbes) June 11, 2019 But to us Indians, the biggest disbelief probably came considering the ranking of the captain of the Indian cricket team and currently the best ODI batsman in the world, Virat Kohli who just made it to the Top 100, positioned dead last in the list at the 100th spot with the annual salary of $4 million and sponsorship worth $21 million, mounting his 2019 worth $25 million. Virat Kohli is the only cricketer among the forbes 2019 world's highest paid athletes.#CWC19 pic.twitter.com/cExJKRrhvw — Akki (@akkiakki973798) June 11, 2019 Now, make no mistake, a year worth $25 million is a GOOD year and being named is the list of the world's most highly paid athletes has to be an honour in itself but the fact that Kohli is last on the list and is the only cricketer in the list, says a thousand words about the popularity of the game of cricket outside of India. While our nation has put the game of bat and ball on a pedestal and given birth to the money-minting business that the Indian Premier League has turned out to be, cricket is still nowhere as popular as sports like football or basketball worldwide and therefore, do not bring in many international sponsorships and bigger deals. Having said that while the Indian cricket team is doing well on their ICC World Cup 2019 journey, having defeated both their opponents, we would like to congratulate Virat Kohli on this feat. 5. Shorts are one piece of clothing that men of all ages must have in their closets. No matter what the occasion, they can be a part of the ultimate outfit, no matter what sort of a fashion statement you are trying to make. And, if like Varun Dhawan, you have the physique and the legs to rock them, even better. Take notes, guys... 1. Dress According To Your Strengths © Instagram/varundvn Just look at him and tell us you don't envy that. You can't, can you? Varun, in these white ripped denims and white and blue trainers, goes on to show how you can flaunt your legs, as well as your washboard abs by dressing right. On a side note, who would've thought wearing denims to a gym would actually work? Kudos Varun, way to go! 2. Loose Fits Are Dope © Instagram/varundvn A loose-fitting pair is the key to a super hip look. Pair it with an oversized jersey, and matching trainers, and you have the ultimate athleisure trifecta. And if you can add on a sports cap or a beanie, well, that's the cherry on top of an ultra-hip athleisure sundae. Just make sure that the pieces you pair are loose-fitting, not overtly oversized. That just does not look good. 3. Consider Your Colours © Instagram/varundvn As awesome as Varun looks with his pet, his outfit simply takes the cake here. Pairing a denim jacket and pair of coloured shorts worked wonders for him. Add to that, the fact that his sneakers happen to match the primary colours of his outfit. That was just a masterstroke. We seriously suggest that you go for something like this for your next casual outing with your gang of bros. 4. Khaki Shorts Can be Funky © Viral Bhayani Earthy tones and hues do not necessarily have to be all sober and uncool. Case in point would be this distressed khaki shorts, that Dhawan pairs with a black suede jacket and flip flops. Looks perfect for a lazy evening spent around, or a casual dinner with your gang. What's more, because this look is rather simple and subtle, you can always add an element or two to funk things up a bit. Like Dhawan's flip flops. 5. Prints Are Fun © Viral Bhayani The pair of shorts that Varun wore to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja's birthday bash was a class apart, along with the way that he combined his outfit. A maroon shirt with embroidered and printed flowers, with a white denim shorts, with abstract print stains? Count us in. A rather cool and artsy look, the sombreness of the outfit gets offset thanks to the ragged edge of the short and the blue NHL cap.
  6. Ever since the first trailer for the live-action remake of the Disney classic and my all-time favourite movie, 'The Lion King' dropped, I have been literally counting the days until its release. I'm going to be honest, the wait is killing me! It physically hurts! via GIPHY Watching furry little baby Simba sneezing in the trailer, damn near broke my heart, as it was exactly like the animated version from 1994. Every detail was perfect! via GIPHY via GIPHY What I like about the live-action version is that it seems to be sticking to the old recipe, and is not trying hard to be different or pull out some crazy tricks from a new hat in an attempt to set itself apart from the original. via GIPHY Why fix what isn't broken, right? Sigh…wish someone had told that to the makers of 'Aladdin'. via GIPHY Okay. I don't wanna go there now. It's a Pandora's Box, and I am still trying to get over what my eyes witnessed in the hall! Anyway, last week, we finally got to hear the voice of Beyonce as Nala, and man! She sounds good. I mean, when has she ever not? That was a convincing bunch of seconds when we got to hear her asking Simba to come home and finally take his place as the rightful king of the Pride Lands. via GIPHY Oh man, I just can't wait to 'feel the love tonight' between these two! via GIPHY A few days ago, a new Japanese trailer for the movie was dropped and it contained some deliciously fresh clips, giving us a taste of what was in store for us. Besides the iconic “everything the light touches” scene, the new clip shows baby Simba and Mufasa rolling about and having a fun father-son moment, which was so freaking adorable! (I am going to have such a hard time controlling myself from squealing when I see little Simba on the big screen!) via GIPHY Mufasa is seen trying to teach Simba the art of tracking prey and poor Zazu becomes the casualty! via GIPHY This took me right back to the 'I just can't wait to be king' track, which focuses on the push-and-pull chemistry between the two. via GIPHY Guys, keep mentally preparing yourself for July 19th 2019. You need to be ready for the freight train of feels and emotions that's gonna hit us. For us 90s kids in particular, it's going to be a landmark day. So, 'Be Prepared'. via GIPHY The movie is directed by Jon Favreau. The cast includes Donald Glover (Simba), Beyonce (Nala), James Earl Jones (Mufasa) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar).
  7. We all knew Tony Stark would be a big part of 'Spiderman: Far From Home' but were we prepared for that? I don't know. Every new trailer or any footage since the release of 'Avengers: Endgame' has talked about Tony - and the fact that he's dead now - and well, now we're learning more and more about him still. In the Iron Man movies, we've seen Tony spending a lot of time in his lab working on his suits and well, 'Spiderman: FFH' shows his 'ward' Peter Parker working in his lab in one of Tony's planes. Remember Peter wearing Tony's glasses in the second official trailer? Now, we get to see what they actually do. Here's a compilation of a bunch of international teasers and trailers that have come out till now. So many new scenes, yet we still don't what the f**k is happening with the multiverse. That will be exciting to watch in just a few months. Actually, here's another set of teasers. Along with all of that, there's apparently a 'leaked' trailer as well which has a bunch of new footage along with everything we've seen before. BROTHERS AND SISTERS I PRESENT TO YOU pic.twitter.com/nC7iNu18i7 — *â§ï½¥ï¾* ð¤ðð²ð¥ð *ï½¥ï¾â§* (@suitedspidey) June 1, 2019 Yes, it's not exactly leaked since it looks like it probably played at some theatre before a movie. ('Endgame', I'm guessing) 'Spiderman: Far From Home' is almost here but it still seems so far away, and we really are dealing with some serious MCU withdrawal right now. July 2nd cannot come fast enough.
  8. Virat Kohli is without doubt once-a-generation player of the cricketing world who has taken over every fan of the game with his charisma, angry young man attitude and most importantly the perfection in batting that the cricketer has achieved having put years and years of practice into his craft. Now, as the captain of the most influential cricketing team in the world, Kohli is in pursuit of immortalising his name amongst the greatest men of the sport through the years as he looks to bring India it's third World Cup title. And it is safe to say that the 30-year-old's determination to become a legend has already paid off well as on Wednesday, the ever so famous wax museum Madame Tussauds of London unveiled his statue at Lord's Cricket Ground in the English capital, symbolising the inception of the ICC World Cup 2019. Credit: Madame Tussauds Starting Thursday, the Indian skipper's statue will be displayed at Madame Tussauds until July 15 or the day of the final of the quadrennial tournament. Steve Davies, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: “Cricket fever is set to sweep the nation in the coming weeks so what better way to unveil our new figure of Virat Kohli than with the help of our neighbours at Lord's. “We hope that cricket fans will enjoy not only watching their hero on the pitch but taking to the crease with him here at Madame Tussauds London.” The effigy also boasts of the official kit of the Men in Blue, launched especially for the 2019 World Cup alongside pairs of gloves and shoes that were donated by the cricketer himself. Tarah Cunynghame, Head of Retail & Tours at Lord's Cricket Ground, said: “Lord's is the perfect backdrop to reveal this fantastic figure of Virat Kohli on the eve of the Cricket World Cup. The anticipation of the exciting summer of cricket has already started, with thousands of visitors coming to the Ground and enjoying a tour of Lord's and around the MCC Museum." “The figure of the famous batsman will delight any cricket fans visiting Madame Tussauds London.” A man who grew up watching his inspirations such Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar achieve greatness on the field, now has a statue that will be placed next to theirs says a thousand words about how far the Delhi local has come. Credit: Madame Tussauds Virat Kohli and Team India are to begin their 2019 World Cup journey on 5th June 2019 against Faf du Plessis' South African team.
  9. Playing cricket for the most dominating force in the game, Team India, is not easy. More than the opponents, the passionate fans of the Men in Blue stay ready with a mouthful when an athlete does not perform, is struggling with a bad form or fails to win matches for his side regardless of how difficult the situation was when he got to the crease. One such athlete is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has been questioned, taunted and criticised about the way he plays in the hour of need for the Bleed Blue side. The fact that the former skipper is getting old, does not help either. But during India's second warm-up match in the ICC World Cup 2019 which was against Bangladesh, Dhoni looked like his old self. Like a stallion, with nothing but brute strength flowing through his veins. Scoring his ton in just 78 deliveries, the Ranchi born was making the ball fly left, right and centre on command, bringing the Indian batting order back in line with the help of KL Rahul, after an abysmal start to the innings with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma disappointing yet again. So when Dhoni scored his century in fashion with a strong six over the bowler's head and raised his bat in the air to an awestruck audience, an overjoyed Virat Kohli was seen abusing in excitement, acknowledging his teammate's achievement. Indian stand-up comedian Papa CJ uploaded this video from the friendly match between India and Bangladesh last evening: Classic Dhoni and classic Virat ððð pic.twitter.com/jplLRvAVPy — Papa CJ (@PapaCJ) May 28, 2019 Albeit, Dhoni has been struggling a little bit with his form in the 50 over format of the game lately, but he is no stranger to hitting big shots. Likewise, Kohli is no stranger to expressing his emotions with the help of some cuss words. Therefore, Papa CJ's caption: “Classic Dhoni and classic Virat” makes absolute sense. And while parents would have had a tough time explaining their kids what the Indian skipper was caught mouthing on national television, his emotions were well understood by the fans of Indian cricket and those of MS Dhoni. Twitter joined in and congratulated Dhoni on his brilliant knock: Dhoni is such a beast. — Saqib Mansoor (@wearyscribe) May 28, 2019 Mahi maar raha hain — #@ππ|£ #$@vv@n+ (@AmitSawant4686) May 28, 2019 What a knock from Dhoni! ððLove you so much ðð #MSD pic.twitter.com/Ig4bVXsjvM — HARSH Chopra (@imchoprahc) May 29, 2019 Dhoni dispatched ball out of the park for a 6ï¸â£ in style. Kohli: Wow man... 10. "He may have aged, but he's still a lion uncaged!" We are not saying this, the makers and scriptwriters of 'Bharat' are, in this latest dialogue promo that was released today. Well, we don't know when Salman Khan's transition from being a 'Tiger' to a lion happened, but he's fierce regardless. And this promo is just a glimpse of how 'Bharat' is going to be much more than Salman romancing and dancing with Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani. T-Series In case you didn't know this already, the movie is a remake of the South Korean hit film 'An Ode To My Father' and will see Salman Khan in different characters ranging from an 18-year-old to a 72-year-old. T-Series We have already seen in trailers and teasers how Salman will look like as a circus artist or as a Navy officer, now it's time for us to see how an old Salman (probably in his 70s) will look like, while fighting with goons. T-Series The 20-second video shows a grandpa Salman being bullied by some goons. As expected Salman's 'andar ka boodha sher' awakens and he thrashes all of them with his bare hands (something only he can do). Is it just me or the action scenes and Salman looked strikingly similar to how he was in 'Kick' (only some years older)? Maybe, if 'Kick' makers ever plan to make a series, here's how Salman will look like in 'Kick 20'. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, 'Bharat' is releasing on June 5 and also stars Sunil Grover, Jackie Shroff and Nora Fatehi.
  11. Virat Kohli-led Indian Premier League franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore were literally the least impressive team to play in the league in the past month and a half as they finished at the bottom of the points table with 11 points, 5 wins and 8 losses under their name. The men in Red and Gold ended their IPL 2019 journey with a meaningless 4-wicket win against a depleted SunRisers Hyderabad on 4th May 2019 as Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Mann rallied RCB to victory in the final over, but that was the end of the road for the Play Bold Team this season. The byproduct of the match, however, was an RCB fan getting all the fame in the world overnight. While the match was in progression, the big screen present at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium displayed Deepika Ghose, a die-hard RCB fan, cheering for her side. Soon after, her video took over the internet and made her go viral, bringing in more than 2,75,000 followers on her Instagram account within the span of a day. View this post on Instagram #RCB girl forever â¤ï¸ð A post shared by deepika (@deeghose) on May 4, 2019 at 12:51pm PDT Her following became so crazy that fake Instagram accounts began to pop up in her name, displaying some of her best images online. However, when the good kind of fans were done idealising her, the bad, vulgar and unruly trolls of the internet got their eyes on the fan who became famous as 'The RCB Girl'. Concerned with all the negativity, the vulgarity and the horrific things she got to read about herself led her to come out and address this issue openly: View this post on Instagram My name is Deepika Ghose & that is probably the only thing that is being said about me which is 100% TRUE. It all started on the Saturday of the RCBxSRH IPL match. I have been attending RCB matches for many years. It has become a family tradition to watch, cheer and support our Bengaluru team. When we went for the match on May 4th, I did not expect it to be different. I did not want any recognition or realise the number of times that I was on camera. I am no celebrity, just an ordinary girl who was enjoying the match. I did nothing to warrant the kind of attention that ensued after the TV images appeared & I certainly did not seek it. I have much to be proud of - I am a kind, artistic & hardworking woman. I am well educated, well-travelled and well loved by my friends and family. I have many talents and have excelled at my work as a stylist and as a dancer/teacher/entrepreneur. I do NOT consider being seen on TV at an IPL match an achievement. Many people ask me how my life has changed. It has NOT! The only thing that has changed is the number of my Instagram followers. I am as much in shock as all of you. While I am grateful for the love, I am disturbed by the unnecessary negativity. It has been an extreme case of abuse, trauma and mental torture. I am confused as to how people found my name/profile. My identity, privacy & life have been hacked in an instant. A lot of the overnight followers are men who have used this platform to be crude, vulgar, vicious & entirely disrespectful. Even more shocking is the hate I have received from women. How quick & cruel you have been to say mean things to & about me without even knowing me. I AM ONE OF YOU! The world desperately needs more women supporting & uplifting each other. I am appalled by how I have been judged & condemned instead of being given a compassionate hearing. Stop & think about how it is as a girl to have been subjected to this unwanted attention. So many people have asked me why they should follow me - and you are right to question this. Now that this has happened, I am going to turn this into something genuine, meaningful & fabulous. Yes, I am #theRCBgirl but I am SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. 12. History is never a person's first choice for TV viewing unless you genuinely love history. The problem lies in the initiation: learning history. All those dates and years. The lineage and progeny of a thousand different kings, their affairs, the way they held court. And the wars! The wars! History is interesting; what is faulty is the way it has been taught to us: mugging up dates, names and facts with tedious prose instead of getting to know the story behind the events. A round of applause for our superb education system! History is an extremely important part of our culture; it teaches us not to repeat the mistakes of our predecessors. It is imperative to understand history in order to know ourselves better and learn from it. History can be fascinating, and it sure is. But history is made of facts, which can get boring easily. And those huge hardbound books make the task even more daunting. Visual representation has often proved superior to textual description. We understand better when we see. That is where TV comes in. In today's age of streaming, easily accessible internet, and exceptional talent, the entertainment industry churns out numerous historical or historically influenced series catering to everyone's palate: gory, romantic, gothic, amorous, dramatic or good old factual. Even if these series may be historically inaccurate (because what fun is plain fact-telling?), they present the story which we had once read in an intriguing manner (Hello, Drama! Adds panache, doesn't it?). And who doesn't enjoy a good visual tale? Here are 5 such historical fiction shows which portray history in a new light: 1. The Borgias: (2011-2013) No. of Seasons: 3 © Myriad Pictures/ Bell Media/ Showtime Networks Beautiful sets, fantastic locales and exquisite medieval era costumes come together to make this magnificent historical saga. Backed by a powerful narrative and commendable performances, follow the rise and fall of Pope Alexander VI and his children, as they navigate the complexities of living as the first family of the Roman Catholic Church. Previously known as Rodrigo Borgia (Jeremy Irons), the new Pope 's climb to the papacy is a fascinating one, bringing to fore the rampant bribery and intrigues of the Catholic Church. But does his privileged position safeguard him from troubles? No. Because every other failed papal candidate is out to tarnish his image and see him fail as Pope. Adding drama to the story is the forbidden romance between Lucrezia and Cesare, the elder son and daughter of Rodrigo. (Did someone say Cersei and Jaime? :P ) As the series moves forward, the true nature of the characters is revealed which propels the narrative forward. Pope Alexander doesn't shy away from using every weapon in his arsenal: whether it is sending his sons off to wars to keep his position safe or using his daughter as a sacrificial lamb for political alliances by marrying her off to unworthy suitors. Laced with lies, deceit, conspiracies, and wars, the story is a captivating look into the manoeuvrings of religious faith by people for personal gain. Will the Borgias reign supreme? 2. Vikings (2013-): No. of Seasons: 6 (6th to be released) © Shaw Media/ Chorus Entertainment/ MGM Television/ History If you are fascinated by 'GoT', you will be absolutely hooked to 'Vikings'. Based on Scandinavian folklore and Norse mythology, it focusses on the Viking Age: the period of terror when Northern Europe was raided by Scandinavian forces in order to impose their stronghold on the mainland through wars and conquests. In the limelight is Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), one of the most famous of Norse heroes. The series charts his journey of becoming King and focuses on the raids he carried in England and France, which earned him the notorious title of “The Scourge of the North”. The series focuses on his family, eventually shifting the attention to his sons, and on Lothbrok's friends and fellow warriors who play an important role in enforcing his power. Though the plot isn't an extremely convoluted one, the character development and the easy flow of the show is bound to keep you interested. The characters are well-written, the war scenes are superbly executed, which make the story compelling without becoming tiresome. 3. Rome (2005-2007): No. of Seasons: 2 © HBO Another show with a high production value, an intriguing plot and stunning backdrops, Rome is one of the best historical shows out there. Giving competition to its sister show, Game of Thrones, in terms of story and complexity, it is quite a fantastic show. Focusing on the Roman Empire, the show chronicles the lives and times of history's most prominent figures of Rome: Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, Octavian, Cleopatra among others. At the heart of the series are two soldiers of Caesar's army: Titus Pullo (Ray Stevenson) and Lucius Vorenus (Kevin McKidd), through whose eyes the series is perceived. Titus and Lucius, with their unique personalities and dispositions, propel the story of Rome as it transitions from a Republic into an Empire. As a new era dawns upon Rome, changes are made, loyalties are tested, rules are broken and the legendary Roman Empire comes into existence. The series interlaces key events of Roman history; the overthrow of the Optimates, Julius Caesar's dictatorial rule, the Gallic war, Caesar's assassination, Octavian's rise and his feud with Mark Antony resulting in the Battle of Actium, with the lives of the two warriors, who sometimes are shown as the harbinger of change: they seem to influence some important events in history Though not historically accurate, the series doesn't completely obliterate the facts. Its lucid storyline and the powerful portrayals are what you make look forward to the tale on screen. 4. Medici: Masters of Florence / The Magnificent (2016-): No. of Seasons: 2 © Lux Vide/ Rai Fiction/ Netflix/ Big Light Productions Based on the powerful political dynasty, the House of Medici, who were also a famous banking family of Florence, the series follows Cosimo (the Elder), played by Richard Madden, as he tries to unearth the secret behind his father's mysterious death. Set in the 15th century, responsibility is thrust on Cosimo as he inherits the Bank of Florence. As he reminisces about the time of his father, Giovanni de' Medici (Dustin Hoffman), the mystical veil on the Masters of Florence is lifted, and the audience is treated to the drama that the family is famous for: the exile of Cosimo, his various extramarital affairs, the Medici influence on culture, the family's patronage of the Italian Renaissance and (also due to) their endless wealth. With themes of suspense/thriller, this historical drama delves into the enigmatic family's past. Though the premise of Giovanni's death by poisoning is added for theatrical flair, the series stays true to historical accounts for the most part. Season 2 (Medici: The Magnificient) is set 20 years after Cosimo's time, and centres on his grandson, Lorenzo (Daniel Sherman), who now has the keys to the Medici fortune. © Lux Vide/ Rai Fiction/ Netflix/ Big Light Productions But will he succeed in keeping his family's name untarnished while other powerful enemies try to drag it through the mud? As Lorenzo (the Magnificient) tries to keep up with the increasing pressure, especially on the banking front, Jacopo Pazzi (Sean Bean (Yes, Ned Stark!)), the head of a rival bank, leaves no stone unturned to make Lorenzo more miserable. Does this spell doom for the legacy of the Medici? 5. The White Queen (2013): No. of Seasons: 1 (10 Episodes) © Company Pictures/ Czar Television/ BBC One As the War of the Roses rages on, three women take on the task of changing history forever. One of England's most infamous of wars between its two great houses: The House of York and The House of Lancaster, both contesting for the throne and wishing to gain the upper hand. (Based on Philippa Gregory's historical novel set in 15th century England) When Yorkist King, Edward IV, secretly marries Lancaster House's beautiful Elizabeth Woodville (Rebecca Fergusson), the English court is struck dumb with disgust. The decision is most forcefully resisted by the Earl of Warwick, Richard Neville, aka the Kingmaker. But Elizabeth Woodville is no fool; she has her own plans for the throne, guided by her resourceful mother, Jacquetta. On the other side, we have Margaret Beaufort (Amanda Hale), the influential Tudor matriarch, who wants the throne for her son, Henry, and uses her power to restore the glory of her house. The Kingmaker's naïve daughter, Anne Neville (Faye Marsay), is another player in the game, whom her father uses to safeguard his position in court. As the series progresses, Anne's true nature shines. The three women, seemingly sheltered and innocent but actually behind-the-screen heroines are the real influencers and form the crux of the story, setting into motion a string of events that change the course of the war. Manipulation, seduction, sexual intrigue, and betrayal run rampant in this drama-filled story as the struggle to seek power intensifies. Disclaimer: Watching these shows do not guarantee good marks in your history paper! :P
  13. It's 2019, a ballpark year where millennials are taking over new ways to think and act freely and as a rejoinder to that, a recently conducted survey on Tinder suggests that most millennials prefer being single than in relationships. It's apparently cooler flying solo than choosing a partner to spend time with and most young people agree. © Pinterest Back in the day, being single was looked down or lamented upon and everyone was trying to find the 'right partner' or get back in the game till they hit jackpot but now, it's out of choice, men especially, like to remain single and dabble in either light dating or just hooking up once in a while. The fair assumption of ending up with 15 cats or as a loner ceases to exist as people embrace singlehood more willingly. © Excel Entertainment Being single does have its perks though. You can roam about freely without having to check with your significant other if you can! You don't have to share your dessert and you don't have to try hard to look good for someone else. Maybe just do that for yourself instead. Men and women between the ages of 18-25 are selectively choosing to remain single and live life on their terms and it's certainly a good evolutionary curve and a step away from getting married at a particular age. The results from the survey are quite fascinating, to be honest. So much so, they inspired Tinder's new 'single is a terrible thing to waste' campaign, promoting the single life to be fun, fascinating and aspirational. © Eros International The survey was conducted by the consultancy firm Morar HPI and over 1000 young people from the age groups of 18-25 were asked about their attitude and ideas of singlehood and dating. About 72% of men and women claimed they had made a conscious decision to be single and not because they didn't have a choice and that's quite a high percentage for a survey like this! About 81% of them agreed to the fact that being single benefited them as they had more room for personal growth, platonic friendships, scope to find new people all the time and time and space to work on themselves. More than 17% of men felt the need to stay single and not give relationships a thought, in general. Most of them were a little apprehensive on commitment and getting hurt in the longer run of the relationship. © Eros International The fear of becoming 'boring' in a relationship made at least 39% of the population a little wary to get into one in the first place and about 55% thought being single opens up new and fresher experiences than being in a relationship! Apart from these reason, 66% didn't want to get into a relationship because of a cultivated fear of being with the wrong person. Of course, single friends have friends in relationships that could have gone absolutely south, making them believe it's better to be single than to end up with the wrong person. A lot of men believe that they don't want to compromise on their independence so they choose to be single instead of tied down to another person. © UTV Motion Pictures So, mostly the reasons the millennial generation prefer staying single in this day and age is to be more independent, make selective life choices without anyone else's intervention, the fear of heartbreaks and ending up with the wrong person and establishing an identity that's synonymous with being fun and exciting rather than boring. Well, in my opinion this is a progressive standpoint taken over by the younger generation today and unlike before, this view will help the generation understand how to make relationships work a lot better, whenever they do decide to get into them.
  14. Whether it's international cricket or T20 leagues, Mahendra Singh Dhoni needs no introduction at all. Over the years, the former Indian skipper has carved his own niche on the back of unorthodox cricketing skills. If his batting might allowed him to earn the tag of one of the world's best finishers, Dhoni's lightning quick glovework left everyone in awe. If that's not enough, his leadership skills have allowed Team India to scale new heights in international cricket. And, even if Virat Kohli has replaced him as India's new captain, Dhoni's know-how of the game has allowed him to still call the shots on the field. But, Dhoni is much more than just a good cricketer. He is a great human being. From paying homage to the tireless ground staff personnel, indulging in charitable work to obliging fans for selfies, there have been so many incidents when Dhoni's humility has been in full display. But, his love and admiration for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans, who worship the Jharkhand cricketer like their own, once again came to the fore during their 80-run triumph over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). WATCH: Do not mess with MSD's gloves ð¨ð¨ Full video here ð¹ð¹https://t.co/sMOfRRfxfu #CSK pic.twitter.com/KXtcTcxbca — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 1, 2019 Hosting Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chepauk, Chennai amassed a competitive total of 179 runs - that had Dhoni's 22-ball 44 stamping his authority. In reply, the visitors were bundled out for a mere 99 runs following the spin wizardry of Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja who were supported by Dhoni's ninja-like moves behind the stumps. Following their emphatic win which helped them improve their Net Run-rate (NRR), Dhoni spoke about a number of things during the post-match press conference, but like a true leader, he reserved the final part of his victory speech for the CSK fans, who were closely listening to him at the Chepauk stadium. The name #Thala is very special and I'm thankful to the fans for the love bestowed on me ð pic.twitter.com/ZN9VTUe0vM — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 1, 2019 Paying an emotional tribute to the CSK fans, Dhoni said: "I have always said it's very special to get that kind of a nickname. It's a big nickname that they have given me. It feels really special. I didn't realise that it was part of the first CSK song. The way I got accepted and the whole of Tamil Nadu - whenever they see me they don't call my name, they call me 'Thala'. It feels very special and they have always supported not only me but the whole team," Dhoni said at the post-match presentation ceremony. The @ChennaiIPL thanking their fans at the #AnbuDen ðð with a victory lap. pic.twitter.com/SRlFHSTzSk — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 1, 2019 If Dhoni's kind words enthralled the fans inside the stadium, his post-match lap of the ground where he distributed autographed tennis balls and T-shirts to the crowd, further had everyone singing his praise. Since it was CSK's last home game this season, the gesture was aimed at thanking the fans for their support. After marking a sensational return last year, Dhoni-led Chennai have arguably been the team to beat in the tournament as they continue to take big strides towards successfully defending their title this season.
  15. Spoilers. Kinda. Everything 'Avengers: Endgame' related has been a secret for the longest time, just because of how important of a movie it is. From manipulating the trailers to not even giving the actors entire scripts, the Russo Brothers did everything in their power to keep everything under wraps. But, there will always be rebels. This time, it was Chris Pratt. It's pretty understandable why no one would be allowed to film anything while on the set of the biggest Marvel movie ever, but obviously, the actors know how to sneak around and do something 'illegal'. Remember the whole 'Infinity War' is the biggest crossover ever? Well, it ain't got nothing on 'Endgame' because 'Infinity War' had all the actors, but the actors and their characters never shared any screen time together. Now, in 'Endgame', for people who've seen it, watched literally everyone come together and fight the giant purple grape. So, when they shot the final battle, it was probably the only time every MCU character was together and it's such a rare moment, of course. To remember that once-in-a-lifetime moment, Chris Pratt recorded a secret video of everyone on the set. View this post on Instagram I remember being blown away in this moment on the @avengers set. Nobody was allowed to film anything on their phones. I said screw it. No rule was going to stop me from seizing this once in a lifetime opportunity to capture this collection of stars, a groupthat likely will never be in the same room again. We are so blessed. A post shared by chris pratt (@prattprattpratt) on Apr 29, 2019 at 12:57am PDT Thank you, Chris, but sorry, you're still my least favourite Chris. Chris Evans being a cutie in the video will obviously take the top spot. He wrote in the caption, “I remember being blown away in this moment on the Avengers set. Nobody was allowed to film anything on their phones. I said screw it. No rule was going to stop me from seizing this once in a lifetime opportunity to capture this collection of stars, a group that likely will never be in the same room again. 16. As the date inches closer for the epic finale of the 'Avengers' series, I must confess that I am pretty close to losing my Goddamn mind! Also, it doesn't help that Marvel has decided to launch a flurry of TV spots every freaking day with second-long new footage from 'Endgame'. The latest TV spot finally gave us a taste of what all of us were desperately waiting for: Cap & Tony Vs Thanos. Yes, we also got the first look of Valkyrie, but let's be honest here, there was only one thing in this sport that left us salivating for more. We all know that this epic battle is going to leave some major casualties…okay, let's not go there now. But this one-second shot has already given us an idea of how epic, mind-blowing and incredible this the final battle is going to be, even though we may lose some of our beloved heroes forever. Here's hoping you guys have already booked your tickets (I have!), and if not…well, ab milne se raha!
  17. 'Games of Thrones' is literally everywhere now. It's everywhere on social media, it's taken over our YouTube sub boxes and it's all over the news portals too. It's clearly a great time to be 'Game of Thrones' fan. But what about those people who don't really care about the show? What if you don't care who gets killed and who sits on the Iron Throne? Yes, it's totally cool to be someone who doesn't care about 'Game of Thrones'. So, what to do when it's the only show everyone seems to be talking about and you want to watch something different? Well, don't worry! We've got you covered. Here are five other shows you can watch if you don't care about 'Game of Thrones' - 1. Vikings © History Channel 'Vikings' is a great show to watch if you don't really like 'Game of Thrones', but want to watch something with conquests and sword fights. The plot of 'Vikings' isn't as complicated to understand as, say, 'Game of Thrones', but there's still a lot to look forward to. It tells the tale of a Norse hero Ragnar Lothbrok on his journey to becoming a Scandinavian king. The story is set in a medieval era, and the show does a phenomenal job of representing it with costumes and sets. Also, the cast has done a commendable job and the character development is on point too. Where to watch: Netflix 2. Outlander © Netflix 'Outlander' is yet another period drama, which should definitely be on your watch list. It's based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, and it follows a World War II nurse who finds a portal (yes, a portal to travel in time) to 1743 Scotland. It's a show which combines historic action and drama with some interesting tidbits of time travel. Unlike the 'Game of Thrones' series, the books are a quick read, which makes this show all the more interesting. If you end up missing something on the show or you feel like getting a better understanding of the things happening on the show, then it's very easy to catch up. Where to watch: Netflix 3. Westworld © HBO 'Westworld', when it came out back in 2016, was one of the most-discussed shows. Literally, it was everywhere. In case you don't know, it's a sci-fi series set in a futuristic theme park where celebrities and wealthy people show up to bring their wild west fantasies to life. We're two seasons in, and the show just keeps on getting more interesting. Guess what? It looks like it's only going to get crazier from here since it looks the life-like host robots are up to something. The show is due for the third season, but it's not coming anytime soon. So, you still have a lot of time to catch up. Where to watch: Hotstar 4. The 100 © Netflix What do 'Game of Thrones' and 'The 100' have in common? They both are shows in which no one is safe. So, if you're planning on watching this show, then make sure that you don't get attached to any of the characters. That, however, is the fun part. 'The 100' is based on the Kass Morgan young adult series, but it's no longer following the original storyline and has now become a thing of its own. The show is about a nuclear apocalypse, where the remaining bunch of people are living in a space station. When the station's life support starts showing the signs of failure, they send 100 young prisoners to determine alternate safe shelters. Where to watch: Netflix 5. Frontier © Netflix Honestly, you can watch this show just for Jason Momoa. As Khal Drogo, he got killed off fairly quickly in 'Game of Thrones' and you can get your Khal Drogo fix from this show. 'Frontier' is essentially a show about the 18th-century North American fur trade, where the protagonist takes on Hudson's Bay Company. Where to watch: Netflix
  18. The long weekend is here and in case you're not doing anything, just being a couch potato, nursing bad health or loaded with work which barred you from leaving town, then my guess is that like most of us, binge-watching will be the only plan you'll have. Here are 5 interesting suggestions for you for this weekend: 1. Hanna- This drama series follows a 15-year-old girl, Hanna who is being hunted down by a CIA agent. This dark show could be a good binge watch for you! 2. The OA 2- Brit Marling is back with her brilliance. If you followed Prairie and her friends travelling across dimensions of time in the 1st season and were left shook with what followed, this one is more layered and complicated like something you didn't imagine. 3. McMafia- Nawaz fans already devoured it last year but in case you haven't, this is a good show to binge watch. The BBC drama has Nawaz playing a Mumbai importer, Dilly Mahmood. The series revolves around Alex Goldman who is brought up by Russian exiles. Makes for a good binge watch. 4. Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé- You don't need any more reasons to watch the madness and the sheer dedication that goes behind the planning of a Beyoncé concert. This is basically a testament of her persona, just watch it already. 5. Our Planet- This series explores the wonders of the world in eight parts. This insane project was in the works for over 4 years and was shot in over 50 countries. Just prepare to be mesmerised.
  19. The Indian cricket team comprises of numerous players who share more than just a good rapport with each other. And then, there are Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul whose bromance probably overshadows the camaraderie shared between other players in the team. From hanging out together on tours to exchanging their jerseys on the field, it's needless to say that the young duo is inseparable. However, the year 2019 started on a disastrous note for the Indian stars. The two cricketers were reprimanded for their demeanour on the popular TV show 'Koffee With Karan'. There was a lot of backlash on social media that in turn led to their respective suspensions at the hands of the Indian cricket board. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 It was arguably the lowest of lows in their respective careers. But, the two cricketers didn't let it affect their mindset as they won the fans back with spirited performances, upon their return, on the field. While Rahul looks determined in his batting approach for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Pandya, too, appears more focussed while carrying out his responsibilities for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. Their fall from grace seems to have brought the much-needed maturity into their approach towards the game. And, with the chat show controversy behind them, both Rahul and Pandya are looking to make the most of the opportunities with positive intent - something that was highlighted in the latter's latest Instagram post. View this post on Instagram Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year A post shared by Hardik Pandya (@hardikpandya93) on Apr 17, 2019 at 11:34am PDT On 18th April, Rahul turned 27. From his fans to teammates, everyone poured in heartfelt wishes for the Karnataka batsman. But, the one from Pandya clearly stood out. Taking to Instagram to wish his best mate, Pandya wrote: "Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year". Both Rahul and Pandya have been included in Team India's 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While Rahul will either provide a back-up option as an opener or might just get to play at the much-debated No. 4 slot, Pandya will add teeth to the Indian line-up with his all-around abilities.
  20. It's been 4 years since I cut the cord and if you're looking to switch from traditional TV to streaming content, you will probably need a streaming device for your TV. Yes, you can watch content on your smartphone but nothing really beats the big screen. I personally own almost every possible streaming device that you can buy in India, in every room. If you are looking for a streaming device for your room, look no further than this list: 1. Apple TV © BCCL It's probably our go-to streaming box that supports every App out there. As a part of the Apple ecosystem, you get access to thousands of applications on Apple's App Store. Apart from applications, Apple TV can also support casual gaming and with Apple Arcade on its way, you will be able to play console-level games on this device. The Apple TV plays host to every essential app such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube and Hotstar. Apple is also launching its own video streaming service which you can read more about here. You can even get the 4K version if you own a 4K television. 2. Google Chromecast/Ultra © BCCL Chromecast is by far our favourite casting device that can take care of every streaming need. You can even mirror your Google Chrome tabs if you want to stream content from third-party sources. In fact, some of the video players on websites have direct native support for Chromecast. Applications such as Netflix, YouTube, and Hotstar can also stream content directly to Chromecast via your smart device or the Chrome browser. It even supports Google Assistant which is a nifty feature to have if you want to stream content effortlessly. Even though Google doesn't sell Chromecast Ultra officially in India, you can still get your hands on one through unofficial channels. It supports 4K streaming across all applications. 3. Amazon Fire TV © Amazon It's probably our least favourite streaming device on our list as we find the operating system clunky and slow. It does not have native support for YouTube, which is a big negative point for us. The original FireStick TV's remote is also notorious for draining out batteries extremely quickly. Make sure you always have spare batteries or rechargeable batteries handy. In terms of content, FireStick TV does have native support for Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Hotstar. You can even use Kodi to manage your own library if you know what you're doing. There's also a 4K version available to buy which takes the viewing experience up by a notch. 4. Nvidia Shield TV © Nvidia Nvidia Shield is a device that is focused on streaming video but also appeals to gamers who own an Nvidia GPU. Nvidia Shield TV supports 4K resolution and HDR streaming based on the Android TV platform. You can play games from Android's app store or stream your PC games over WiFi. For 4K streaming, it supports all the major OTT services besides Hotstar.
  21. The early phase of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw a casual Jos Buttler getting a stark reminder of the forgotten and less-talked about 'Mankad' rule when Ravichandran Ashwin paused in his delivery stride before catching him short at the non-striker's end. Since then, the cricket world has been divided over upholding the spirit of the game and the advantage batsmen tend to gain by leaving the crease early. While the debate is still on, David Warner has showed everyone how a batsman can save himself from embarrassment that mankading tends to supply in abundance. During the 22nd match of the ongoing season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were slowly, but surely trying to consolidate on a key partnership between Warner and Vijay Shankar. WATCH: No, Warner doesn't want to get 'Mankaded' Full video ð¹ð¹https://t.co/feeK6QM0Nt #KXIPvSRH — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 8, 2019 The seventh over of Hyderabad's innings saw Warner taking extra precaution against Ashwin who seems to have left a doubt in the minds of opposition batsmen after mankading Buttler. In a bid to make sure he didn't follow in the footsteps of Buttler, Warner was seen leaning behind and stretching out his bat to keep it inside the crease as the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) captain delivered the ball to Shankar. However, during Ashwin's over, the Australian opener appeared more cautious as he turned his head around, carefully watching the bowler's hand. And, thanks to Warner's awareness, Hyderabad was aided with yet another brilliant knock by the Australian. Despite beginning the innings at a slow pace, Warner's 62-ball 70 powered the visitors to a 150-run total at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Chandigarh.
  22. Delhi Capitals (DC), the team which has seen a different side of themselves after the change in their name, have given a decent performance in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Winning three games out of the six they have played so far, Delhi have managed to maintain the fifth spot in the league table, courtesy the skipper; Shreyas Iyer. Always leading the team from the front, Iyer has been a crucial part of the DC in all the matches they have played till now. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Delhi Capitals (@delhicapitals) on Apr 7, 2019 at 7:23am PDT Starting off by scoring decent 30's and 40's in the first few matches, the DC captain managed to score a mind-boggling 67 against the wounded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their home ground on Sunday. Handing RCB their sixth consecutive loss by defeating them by four wickets, Iyer did not only win the match but also earned the third place in the race for 'The Orange Cap' by scoring 215 runs in all the six matches he has played. Now, settling with the perfect combination of his team, the Mumbai lad is at least expected to take his team, Delhi Capitals to the top four by the end of the season, if not winning the trophy.

These two go back a long way, and we totally love what they have whipped up.
  24. If you have been an ardent fan of the Indian cricket team in late 1990s and early 2000s, you would despise it whenever Matthew Hayden took to the crease against our bowlers. Hell, even the Men in Blue needed to rattle their brains in order to get this legend of a cricketer to return to the locker room. Such a terror was the former Aussie skipper. However, ever since the Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008, Hayden, who batted for Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings for the first three years (2008-10) before retiring, was welcomed by the people of Chennai with open arms because of the level of success he brought to the “whistle podu” franchise. Finally, when Hayden took to the commentary box to stay connected to the game he loves so much and show off his speaking skills, he truly became one of our favourites. Also, there is something about tall, international players in 'lungis' that no Indian fan can get over, period. We have to make them one of our own once they have worn lungi in public, it's an unspoken code. Well, that's exactly what the 6'1'' athlete from Down Under did a couple of days ago when he was spotted at Chennai's heavily populated area of T Nagar, shopping. Disguised in fake beard and mustache, Haydos covered his head with a fisherman's hat, looking all dapper in a brand new lungi. But, why go through the trouble to stick fake hairs to your face, only to head out in the public? According to an interview with the Times of India, Hayden was challenged to do so by his buddy and former Australian teammate Shane Warne. “It was a challenge by Warne to buy items for under Rs 1000. That's why I went around the market to buy some lungis, shirts, Rajini sunnies and a watch,” he said. Hayden was also assisted by a local boy, whom he remembered to thank for winning the bet: “I paid the boy Rs 100. And I can proudly tell you that I won the challenge (with Warne).”
  25. Hardik Pandya might have courted controversy on his last TV show appearance. He may have deservedly attracted flak and, later, suspension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his comments. And, more recently, he might have been summoned by Indian cricket board's Ombudsman, Justice DK Jain, to be present for the hearings in relation to his controversial remarks about women. But, despite all that, hand this young lad a cricket bat and he'll show you what an absolute nightmare he can be for the opposition bowlers - something that's becoming more of a trend in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. The 25-year-old began this season with a forgettable duck against Delhi Capitals (DC) who eventually shocked the three-time IPL champions with a 37-run triumph. But, since then, there's been no looking back for Pandya. Twitter/@IPL He smashed a 14-ball 32 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and, then, a 19-ball 31 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). But, he saved his best for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who bore the brunt of Pandya's willow at the Wankhede stadium on 3rd April. Against RCB, Pandya's blitzkrieg allowed Mumbai to accelerate from an average-looking 145 after 16 overs to a competitive 187 after 20. And, at home against CSK, the swashbuckling right-hander, once again, got a meandering Mumbai innings out of a ditch with an absolute carnage of an innings. Coming out to bat in the 17th over, Hardik swapped places with elder brother Krunal and was looking to give more strike to settled Suryakumar Yadav. He couldn't score a run on his first delivery and then a single on the second got him off strike in the 18th over. But, after Yadav got dismissed on the last delivery of the over, the right-handed batsman knew it was time to unleash the beast. Twitter/@IPL He smashed Shardul Thakur for a towering six over square leg on the first delivery of the penultimate over and followed it up with a single. With Hardik off strike, Kieron Pollard could only manage seven runs off four deliveries including a six on the fifth ball. At 141/5, with just six deliveries to go, both Hardik and Pollard knew they needed to up the ante to help Mumbai post a competitive total. He helicoptered Bravo's yorker into the top tier - something MS Dhoni would have also enjoyed - on the fourth delivery. Then, he punched a drive through extra cover for a boundary. And, finally, slashing a fuller delivery over third man to finish with a six. From reeling at 119/4 in 17 overs, Mumbai romped their way to 170/5 - thanks to a slambang 8-ball 25 from Hardik and 7-ball 17 from Pollard. In 37 innings since the 2017 edition of the IPL, Hardik has come in to bat with roughly 26 balls remaining in the innings, which is extremely low for a hitter of his ability in a T20 game. While that may raise questions on Mumbai's decision to keep him much down the batting order, it undoubtedly highlights what kind of an influence, in just a few deliveries, this young bloke can have on a game - something Team India would need in the all-important ICC World Cup, slated to begin from 30th May.
