  1. Apple created waves around the internet last year by becoming the world's first trillion dollar tech company. Then Amazon joined Apple's new-found trillionaire's club in just a month, becoming the second US-based company to cross the mark. Now, Microsoft has become the third US company to pass the market cap of $1 trillion after a jump in stock price following strong fiscal Q3 earnings. Yes, the tech company led by Satya Nadella briefly topped $1 trillion in value for the first time after executives predicted continued growth for its cloud computing business. © Google Stock Microsoft's stock price opened at $130 per share yesterday, which was up around 4-per cent from the closing price the day before. It swooped past Apple Inc's $980 billion market capitalization. The credit for Microsoft's immense stock growth goes to its cloud business. Azure, Microsoft's flagship cloud product competes with Amazon Web Services (AWS), who is a market leader. Azure is currently second behind Amazon, but it's ahead of Google's offering. © Microsoft Microsoft was once heavily reliant on the Windows operating system but things started changing once Satya Nadella took over as the Chief Executive. The company has seen significant growth in selling cloud-based services. It is, however, worth pointing out that Microsoft's market cap has dipped below the $1 Trillion mark. At the time of writing this, the market cap is currently standing at $990.87B. However, it's more than that of Apple, which currently sits at $967.95B.
  2. 1st April a.k.a April Fool's Day has always been the day on which all brands try to put their best foot forward and lie to us for the sake of, well, comedy. You definitely shouldn't be believing what you see or hear on April Fool's day, but it's also the day that brings out the best in the tech space. Well, 2019 was no exception, and we got to see a lot of interesting stuff from big name companies. But here are the best April Fool's Day pranks, which we wish actually real: 1. Notifications That Literally Follow! Duolingo's pesky notifications bugging you every day to take your language test can get super annoying, which is why we're sure you end up ignoring them. But this April fool's day, the company took a step further by introducing the idea of having a large green owl appear in real life and follow you around to remind you to practice your language lessons. Heck, they even come in three modes - encouraging, disappointed, or passive aggressive - and it's downright hilarious. Check it out - 2. A Smart Assistant For Gaming? Sure. Nvidia also took it a step further by announcing a GeForce RTX smart assistant called R.O.N. The company claims it can give you cool tips when you play games like Apex Legends, telling you to hide, etc. R.O.N. can also use its brains to leave comments on sites like Reddit and Twitch for you. But be careful, R.O.N. can become a serious troll. The best part, however, has got to be the device itself, which throws a really cool holograph. Check it out - 3. RGB CPU, Anyone? Newegg's new CPU for April Fool's day makes us wonder - “How much RGB is too much RGB?” Seriously, the company showcased an RGB CPU for people who just can't have enough RGB in their life. It costs a hefty $4,999.99, and it comes with a whopping 100 cores and 200 threads. Its base clock is a supposed 1.4 Petahertz and overclock, well, if you overclock it, Newegg says you “might create a small black hole inside your CPU.” It's not something that we want, because the CPU will anyway be tucked inside a cooler, but it's a hilarious idea. Check it out here - 4. Do You Like Cup Noodles? Yes, that's what HyperX and Nissin came up with. Needs no explanation we suppose? They even claim that you can detach the fork and slurp some noodles while gaming. Sounds just about right. © HyperX - Noodles 5. Like Sharing Your Music? If you don't like HyperX's idea, then how about something more practical? Like this Jabra Earbud(dy) headphones, with which you can share the music that you're listening to. It apparently comes with an ultra-light headband that can be extended “seamlessly to accommodate the perfect fit for every pair of buddies.” © Jabra 6. An App Find Your Lost LEGO Bricks? LEGO's “Find My Brick”, as the name suggests, is a parody of Apple's Find My iPhone app. It will help you find your bricks for you in a pile of miscellaneous blocks. Image how simple your life would be with such an app, and that's exactly why we think this should actually be real. The long search is finally over... ð± #FindMyBrick pic.twitter.com/3yBIPJ2OPk — LEGO (@LEGO_Group) April 1, 2019 Well, that wraps our list of April Fool's pranks. Of course, there were countless other pranks by the likes of OnePlus, Razer, Tinder, etc., but these are the ones which we truly wished existed in real life, especially the Nvidia R.O.N. and LEGO app.
  3. Reddit, as we all know, is known to be the “front page of the internet”. There are all kinds of goodies in there… too many, in fact. But don't worry. We're here to help. If you're someone who likes to geek on 'techy' stuff, then here are some awesome “tech” subreddits you can follow. Gadgets © Unsplash Gadgets, as the name suggests, is a community that's devoted to all kinds of gadgets related to news and talk. Be it about an old Nintendo gaming console or about the latest iPhones, this is the place to be. No kidding, this community is filled with some talented and helpful minds who're always ready to help you queries. Robotics © Unsplash Robotics is a subreddit that's centered around the topics of professional robotics. It's not only a place where you can get your robotics fix, it's also a growing community filled with people who're interested to have discussions around the topic and share their work. Trust me, you'll find some interesting content here even if you're not into robotics. AskTechnology © Unsplash This one's an ask-based subreddit, where you can ask any, and I mean any, tech-related question. To my surprise, I found the community to be very active, which is one of the reasons why I see myself going back here all the time. So if you have tech-related question, which you're hesitant to ask someone in real life, then hit this subreddit right now. Futurology © Unsplash Need a hand getting acquainted with futurology? This subreddit is the place to be. This subreddit will expose you to the world of technology and beyond. It's mostly all speculation, but hey, it's all really fun to read and it's only a matter of time till you start dabbling with “evidence-based speculation.”
  4. There has been a lot of hype surrounding Apple's second-generation AirPods as they're expected to be significantly better than the original AirPods that debuted back in 2016. The new ones are said to have improved sound, always-on Siri support, and wireless charging, among other features. © YouTube/Airpods Yes, there's quite a lot of buzz around the wireless charging support, but a new leak suggests that the new AirPods could also support rapid charging which will allow you fully charge them in just 15 minutes. A tweet sent out by XDA member Max Weinbach claims that the battery level of AirPods 2, both the carrying case and the AirPods themselves, can go from 0-per cent to 100-per cent in just 15 minutes. It's way better than the current generation AirPods, which take hours to get charged. © Reuters The charging case is said to use Qi charging, although that can't be confirmed just yet. In his tweet, Max also noted that the case will be both bigger and heavier than the current one. As is the case with any other leak, there's no way to confirm this, so we suggest you take this information with a pinch of salt. Apple's first press event of the year is scheduled to be held on March 25 at Steve Jobs Theater at the Apple Park campus. Additionally, the company is also expected to make a few more interesting announcements like a video streaming service to compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and more. Source: Twitter
  5. Vivo has been one of the most innovative company in the past year and has been trying to achieve a full-screen experience with its pop-up camera mechanisms. It was first introduced with the Vivo Nex last year and it had features that were not seen in a smartphone before. It had an in-display fingerprint sensor and pop-up selfie camera. We've now seen that tech trickle down to a more affordable smartphone that makes innovation available to everyone. The Vivo 15 Pro packs a 48-megapixel primary camera and a 32-MP pop-up selfie camera. It's the first smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 675 chipset which strikes a perfect balance between performance and battery conservation. We've been using the smartphone for a while and here's our review of the smartphone. Design And Display © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla Vivo has managed to deliver a product that stands apart from anything else you've seen in the market. It has a near bezel-less screen and has a triple camera setup at the back. The camera module protrudes a bit as it houses both the camera sensors and the pop-up camera mechanism. The Vivo V15 Pro comes in two colours i.e. Topaz Blue and Ruby Red and has a plastic body at the back which may not be the best for people who want a premium finish. Vivo also supplies a case with the smartphone which protects the smartphone from scratches and drops and has a strategic cut-out to accommodate the pop-up camera. The smartphone also comes with a dedicated button on the left that can be used for launching Google Assistant. The Vivo V15 Pro also comes with an audio jack and has micro USB port for charging. In terms of display, the Vivo V15 Pro sports a 6.39-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Display and has a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. The display itself is similar to what you've seen before however, it has the feature of an in-display fingerprint sensor. The screen itself is vivid with accurate colour representation. The deep blacks are a delight as it accentuates other colours when watching videos. The near bezel-less display is also a delight to use while gaming as we can see more information on the screen and have more real-estate as compared to a smartphone with a notch. The in-display fingerprint sensor has also been improved upon since we first saw it on the Vivo Nex. The sensor is more accurate and faster at unlocking the smartphone. You will need to place your thumb on a specific part of the smartphone that reads fingerprints. Camera The Vivo V15 Pro has a triple camera set up at the rear which consists of a 48MP primary sensor, 5MO depth of field sensor and an 8MP wide angle lens. Having said that, the Vivo V15 Pro basically combines four smaller 0.8μm pixels into one large 1.6μm pixel, effectively giving a final result of 12MP pictures. You can, however, shoot in 48MP by adjusting the resolution from the settings. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla The triple camera setup on the Vivo 15 Pro can let the smartphone take portrait shots and even 120-degree wide angle shots to get a bigger perspective in images. The camera has different modes where you can adjust different portrait lighting like you can on iPhones. The rear camera was able to take some awesome shots especially when it came to portraits. It even performed well in night mode which was kind of unexpected. The camera captures the right details without overexposing the images or without any noise. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla The selfie camera is also a delight to use even though it may sound like a gimmick at first. The 32-MP selfie camera uses the same method as the primary camera to capture images that are accurate. Selfies were extremely accurate and captured everything we expected. There are some interesting filters and effects you can use for selfies where our favourite was the rainbow effect. The pop-up mechanism works fast and it takes about 0.5 seconds to start. The selfie camera can also be used for the face unlock feature. View this post on Instagram Images shot using the #VivoV15Pro A post shared by Akshay Bhalla (@editorinchief) on Feb 22, 2019 at 1:50am PST Performance When it came to performance, the smartphone exceeded our expectations as it's powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 675 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. It even comes with 128GB of internal storage which is more than enough to store media. The phone runs rather smoothly and we did not face any bugs or lag while trying to use multiple apps at the same time. Having said that, we aren't a big fan of FunTouch which may have caused a few app crashes and glitches. While gaming, we could run PUBG Mobile on the highest settings possible however there were a few noticeable drops in frame rates. In terms of benchmark scores, the Vivo V15 Pro scored 2394 in the single-core stress test whereas it scored 6502 on the multi-core test (Geekbench 4). The Vivo V15 Pro also has a 3,700 mAh battery that can easily last 1.5 days on moderate use. However, when combined with gaming and heavy navigation usage, you can see the battery life drop down to 17 hours. The Final Say The Vivo V15 Pro offers a lot of for Rs 28,990 as it has innovative features and a good camera to back up the price tag. It performed well during the course of our review and offers awesome battery life for a power user. We particularly don't like FunTouch OS however that can be customised according to your liking with a compatible launcher. If you are looking for a smartphone that screams innovation and backs up its claims, the Vivo V15 Pro is a great mid-budget smartphone.

  7. Apple recently filed its annual proxy statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for 2018 and the documents give us a full-disclosure for the Cupertino giant's finances. It includes everything from expenditures, compensations and everything else. © YouTube The document also detailed expenses such as personal security for Apple CEO Tim Cook. These expenses are included in the “other compensation,” category and a new report by Wired reveals Cook's personal security cost. Apart from a Tim Cook, the report also revealed figures for other CEOs that need protection and its subsequent costs. Apple spent an estimated $310,000 in 2018 which seems quite a lot but is nothing compared to what other companies are spending. Wired provided further details via an info-graph that cites similar SEC filings by companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, Intel and others. These numbers will shock you as Apple spent the least when compared to these tech giants. Alphabet, Google's parent company spent more than double than that of Apple's. Google spent $637,538 to protect its current CEO Sundar Pichai. © Reddit Amazon spent a whopping $1.6 million to protect Jeff Bezos and Larry Ellison however you won't guess what tops the list. Facebook spent $7.3 million to protect Mark Zuckerberg, in addition to around $2.7 million protecting its Chief Financial Officer, Sheryl Sandberg. This was probably because all the negative publicity both Zuckerberg and Sandberg have received in the recent past. © BCCL Of course, we can't be entirely sure if the negative publicity was the sole reason for the Social media giant to spend so much more than its counterparts on personal security. It could be possible that Facebook spends, even more, to protect Zuckerberg as one leading industry consultant says that “Zuckerberg's personal security detail is expected to surpass $10 million this year.” If you want to know how much other companies like Intel, Oracle; you can check out WIRED'S full report to know more. 8. The ARPANET (predecessor of the Internet) was launched almost half a decade back, and the American, as well as the European research community, is widely credited for the Internet we use today. Modern computers have improved remarkably; just a decade back a 2GB microSD card was an amazing thing for the end consumer, today we're launching 1TB microSD cards. Until the 90s, India was relatively new to computers. Even after the boom, India emerged as an outsourcing country. While the developed world is committed to researching and developing, India has its own set of problems that prevent it from heavily investing in R&D. The country is at a nascent stage and lacks the all-around community support a researcher requires. This does not mean the country has failed to contribute at the international level. We've compiled a list of Indian born inventors who have marked their name in history thanks to their widely adopted technology invention. 1. Ajay Bhatt © BCCL He is credited for inventing the most widely used data transfer standard, the Universal Serial Bus (USB). He is a graduate from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and completed his post graduation from The City University of New York. Bhatt joined Intel in 1990 as a senior staff architect on the chipset architecture team in Folsom. He is the chief architect and co-inventor of technologies such as USB, Accelerated Graphics Port, PCI Express, platform power management architecture and various personal computer enhancements. The USB port has been defined and developed by several other companies such as Apple and Microsoft. It continues to reign as the unchallenged choice of connection for all gadgets out there today. 2. Vinod Dham © BCCL Vinod Dham is popularly known as the Father of the Pentium chip, for his contribution to the development of highly successful Pentium processors from Intel. Dham did B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious Delhi College of Engineering and then pursued an MS degree in Electrical Engineering, where he specialised in Solid State Electronics. He is called the “Father of Pentium” for his role in the development of the Pentium processor. He is also one of the co-inventors of Intel's first Flash memory technology (ETOX). The tag Intel Inside had almost become a trademark for all the computers. Currently, he is the founding Managing Director of Indo US Venture Partners. 3. Pranav Mistry © Pranav Mistry Pranav Mistry is a computer scientist and inventor, he heads the Think Tank Team and is best known for his work on SixthSense, Samsung Galaxy Gear and Project Beyond. He has previously worked at Microsoft, Google, CMU, NASA, UNESCO, Japan Science & Technology before joining Samsung. SixthSense is an innovative augmented reality (AR) technology which allows users to pop up a screen on the wall by moving their fingers and control it with their fingertips in the air. He has also worked on various other projects like SPARSH, QUiCKiES, BlinkBot and more. 4. Anadish Pal © Gulf News He is credited with inventing the fuel-efficient internal combustion engine along with his contribution and patents on Rail Gun technology, gravitational waves, portable power sources. Today, he is the country's sole independent inventor with the maximum number of US patent grants. The patents include research on induction motor as a sensor, a Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV), a contact-less non-optical computer mouse suitable for 3D applications, a robotic platform, an electromagnetically controlled valve-less internal combustion engine, and more. 5. Krishna Bharat © Stanford University Krishna Bharat is a Principal Scientist at Google Inc, working in the area of user interface and algorithmic support for Web search and content analysis. He is an IIT Madras pass out and has a Ph.D. from Georgia Tech University, USA, Krishna is the person behind immensely popular Google News. Google News was one of Google's first endeavors beyond offering just plain text searches on its page. Also, he received the 2003 World Technology Award for Media & Journalism. Krishna is the acting head of Google's new R&D Center in Bangalore India.
  9. Apple has officially become the world's first trillion-dollar company as a rise in its share price made it all possible. Apple was able to beat its closest rival i.e. Amazon as Apple's share price reached $207.05. (c) Reuters The company sells everything - from the iPhone to services that was co-founded by the late Steve Jobs in 1976. The feat was accomplished a day after Apple published the company's financial results. Apple's share price has grown by 2,000% since Tim Cook replaced Jobs as the chief executive seven years ago. The company has been able to hit $1 trillion in total value 42 years after it was founded. The company managed to rake in profits of $11.5 billion in three months with a record sales of $53.3 billion in revenue. To put things into perspective, Apple generated less than $20 billion in sales before the first iPhone launched in 2006. (c) MensXP Apple could, however, lose its top position to other tech companies like Alphabet (Google) or Amazon if the company is unable to introduce a groundbreaking product or service this year. Companies don't necessarily have the same number of shares over time as they frequently buy back some of its own shares to boost up the stock price. This, in turn, reduces the number of outstanding shares which generally increases the value of each share. For now, Apple is the world's first publicly traded trillion dollar company and we can only wait to see if the company can maintain this momentum or get overtaken by one of its competitors.
