  1. Thrillers always make for an enticing watch when the mind is running amok, given how a good rom-com just does not cut it and watching comedy doesn't suffice either. Whenever I want to exercise my mind a little bit, watching a good thriller helps a lot. While shiny expensive cars, a big ensemble cast, magnificent locations definitely add on to the aesthetics, a good storyline doesn’t need all that jazz. Here are 5 underrated Bollywood thrillers which managed to keep us hooked more than any big-budget blockbuster did: 1. 13B Probably one of the most underrated movies of all time, this thriller is a must-watch if you still haven’t given yourself the opportunity to be enticed by a good story. © Big Pictures The film follows a family which moves into a new apartment but suddenly things start going awry. Watch it for the gripping scenes. Also, with a budget of merely Rs 6 crores, this film is insanely well-made. 2. Manorama Six Feet Under With a budget of around Rs 13.4 crores, the movie follows the story of a woman named Manorama who requests an officer (played by Abhay Deol) to find proof of her husband’s extramarital affair. © Shemaroo Entertainment However, when the investigation begins, the officer ends up digging way more than just this one truth. 3. Samay One often wonders how much does it take to make a good movie. Well, for this Sushmita Sen-starring thriller, a budget of less than Rs 4 crores proved that a strong script can manifest regardless of the money. © iDream Productions The plot follows an ACP who is trying to unravel the murder mysteries in town and looks for the serial killer behind them. 4. Kahani Trust Vidya Balan to work and deliver excellence on any script she chooses. The first instalment of this two-part movie franchise was a super hit and fantastically directed. © Boundscript Motion Pictures Vidya plays a pregnant woman who is looking for her lost husband in the streets of Kolkata. With many more strong performances thrown in together, this thriller kept everyone on the edge of their seats right till the end. Oh also, all of this was made under Rs 8 crores. 5. Badla You’d think that with Big B’s name attached to a movie, the budget would be crazy high. Not really. This crime thriller was the surprise package of 2019 which had no fancy backdrops, no extensive ensemble star cast and yet, managed to leave a strong mark on the minds of the audience. With a budget of Rs 10 crores, this film gets a little predictable in some parts but always leaves you wanting more, courtesy the strong performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu. 2. There was something special about the '90s. Whether it's the nostalgia kicking us in the gut on a particularly difficult day, or simply a glimpse of the nonsensical madness going on in TV sets today, a walk down the memory lane to the '90s always seems special. © Youtube/Dabangg TV Sudesh Berry as CID Inspector Bharat was absolutely on point with his investigations, as well as his outfits - with sharp suits and other well-tailored apparel. © Balaji Telefilms The protagonist of this unique horror/drama/comedy show was a friendly ghost. Narendra Jha, with his extremely handsome and stylish self, even in that black and white uniform, managed to impress us as the dead but super fashionable Captain without breaking a sweat. (Do ghosts sweat though?) © Youtube/Doordarshan Classics & Movies A Mouthful Of Sky was the first serial in English to be produced in India. If one wants to experience how serials in the '90s were way ahead of today's shows in terms of quality as well as execution, they need to check this out. Milind Soman, Rahul Bose, and Samir Soni gave us style as well as demeanour goals through this one, way before we knew what 'cool' meant. © Youtube/DD Classics Who doesn't remember idolizing Milind Soman as the super strong and charming Captain Vyom? Sure, the costumes were a little amateurish, but it was 22 years ago - and even then Milind made it look like a million bucks with that physique. Good old days! © DDClassic Blogspot Not only was Dekh Bhai Dekh one of the most entertaining shows DD has ever produced, the entire cast was fashionably aware, with a sense of quirk along with their sense of humour. What we won't give to get back those days of relatable fashion! View the full article
  3. We know that Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man drives around in a supremely delectable Audi R8, an Audi e-tron GT & an Acura NSX. In real life though, he is a proper petrolhead, who actually prefers some really cool vintage sports and muscle cars, over the self-driving, electric cars. © AFP We take a look at his current garage, which will leave even the most ardent of car collectors and petrolheads, green with envy. Now, do keep in mind, RDJ loves modifying his cars, and gets some really cool customisations done, like all true petrolheads. So, putting a price on them would be nearly impossible. © AFP 1. 1974 BMW 3.0 CS (Modified) © SpeedKore Robert just recently took possession of this car. He basically took a 40-year-old car, had it modified with a 21st-century engine and drivetrain, updated the interiors and the suspension. This is a cracker of a car and shows just how well Robert knows his cars. 2. 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 (Modified) © SpeedKore Until the BMW rolled in, this was the crown jewel of Robert Downey Jr’s garage. He got it back in 2017, and again, had it customised - a new engine, new wheels, new bodywork, and a touch screen infotainment screen. A little odd if you ask us, but hey, if that’s how he rolls, so be it. 3. 1965 Corvette Stingray Convertible © Reuters This is a dream car for many collectors around the world. Downey did not go bonkers crazy with this car, he just had it restored, the engine tuned a bit, and the wheels replaced. Admit it, it does look super cool, doesn’t it? 4. 2009 Audi R8 © Audi Of course, given how often he has driven the R8 on screen, he was bound to fall in love with the car and buy one. His R8 has one of those original V8 engines that Audi made in partnership with Lamborghini, before upgrading the heck out of it for their newer models. 5. Ferrari California T © AFP As far as we can tell, this is the only Ferrari that Downey has. The California T had become a rage in LA, given that it was the cheapest Ferrari money could buy. Instead of a loud and brash colour that would stand out, Downey went for blue. Not a fan of the Ferrari, it seems. 6. Bentley Continental GT © AFP Apparently, Robert was gifted a matte green coloured Bentley Continental GT as a gift for his performance in Iron Man 3 in 2013. Talk about perks and bonuses. This certainly is a bonus that would put a smile on a face. 7. Audi e-tron GT Concept © AFP Robert Downey Jr has gone on record and said that he often takes things from the set of his films. One such “thing” that he was actually offered to take with him from one of the Avengers films, is one of the Audi e-tron GT Concept that the carmakers gave Marvel Studios for the film. Yup, that’s a concept car, which means that firstly, the car is worth millions, and secondly, that it is an extremely unique car. 8. 2012 Nissan GT-R © Reddit/r/Nissan In case you ever wonder just how amazing the Japanese are in terms of engineering, you’ve got to see, or at least look up the original GT-R. Downey bought his GT-R for about $80,000, and apparently, spent another $90,000 to get it modified, tuned and customised. 9. 2017 Audi R8 Spyder © AFP Finally, there is this, the 2017 Audi R8 spyder. Robert got himself a more hardcore version of the two R8s he already had (yup, he has 3). The red one is a spyder, or in layman’s terms, a convertible. Such an exquisite collection of cars shows that Robert is no slouch when it comes to cars. We just wonder, how much are all these cars worth, and how much did he spend modifying the ones he did. 4. Google's Pixel line up has been somewhat lacklustre in terms of the hardware. We didn't even get the Pixel 4 in India this time and we're still waiting for the Pixel 4a to come here. Well, in the meantime we're now hearing new rumours about the Pixel 5. In case you didn't get the memo, it's worth knowing the Pixel 5 is expected to be a mid-range device. It's said to have a 90Hz display on the front, a Snapdragon 765G SoC, and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage. Another leak from Reddit showed an image of the Pixel 5 alongside the Pixel 4a and it looks, well, just like the larger Pixel 4a. © Reddit The disappointing part is that the Redditor said the Pixel 5 will have an additional camera but it'll be a wide-angle lens instead of a telephoto. The main camera is said to be a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor, which is the same as the one seen on Pixel 2 that came out like 3 years ago. Yes, the Pixel camera has gotten better thanks to the software features, but it's been slacking in terms of the hardware. Round-Up Now, if you round up the rumours from multiple sources, it looks like the Pixel 5 is going to be a mid-range phone with a mid-range processor. It means it's going to be slower than the Pixel 4 that comes with a Snapdragon 855 SoC. And in terms of the camera, we're apparently looking at a very old sensor from the Pixel 2. © YouTube/Android Authority This whole comparison is because of Google's decision to transition from flagship to a mid-range phone. That's what is making people make these weird comparisons but it'll be sad to be if these turn out true. But with all that being said, all these are still rumours and we still have to wait for an official announcement to know exactly what's happening. Source: Ars Technica View the full article
  5. After Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot and Batman actor Ben Affleck joined the DC Comics fans’ movement to force the Warner Bros. to release the Zack Snyder version of the highly-criticised Justice League we got in 2017, and the studio finally released a full trailer of the cut and it definitely looks a lot better than the original. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut pic.twitter.com/wssMmlPqEK — Gal Gadot (@GalGadot) November 17, 2019 Here are five major takeaways from the 2-minute 42-second clip that instantly captured our attention (SPOILERS AHEAD): 1. Bruce Wayne’s ‘Knightmare’ Comes True © Warner Bros - YouTube Snyder had plans of making a total of three Justice League films and had envisioned our heroes losing the battle to Darkseid in the first one. This is why he added the much-talked-about and confusing ‘Knightmare’ in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was completely forgotten in Justice League when it came out. According to the first few frames of the trailer, the Synder cut is looking to revisit the director’s idea and eventually, turn Bruce Wayne’s nightmare into reality. 2. Cyborg’s Football Match & Accident © Warner Bros - YouTube The thing Snyder was most excited about while releasing his version of the film was his freedom to develop Cyborg’s character. According to the trailer, we might be able to see Victor Stone’s football match that he wins before getting in a car crash that kills his mother and him. Later, Victor’s father resurrects him with the help of the mother box as the original story shows (although a few minor details may have been changed). 3. Superman’s Black Suit © Warner Bros - YouTube Snyder wished to introduce Superman’s black suit in Justice League but after Joss Whedon took over, he thought it would have been too dark for the movie and instead, made the Man of Steel return to his blue and red costume. Zack later announced that he was gunning for the black suit because it allowed the Kryptonian to absorb the radiation of the sun (where his powers come from) more vigorously. 4. Flash Saves Iris West © Warner Bros - YouTube While Flash got a decent introduction in Justice League, Snyder wished to do so with some more details and wanted to make Barry Allen’s love interest, Iris West debut in the movie. Iris’ scenes were removed from the Whedon cut as the director believed it wouldn’t add a lot of weightage to the movie’s story. Zack, on the other hand, wished to introduce and establish her as a proper character for the independent Flash movie in 2022. 5. The Cosmic Treadmill © Warner Bros - YouTube One final thing that we might have seen during the final seconds of the trailer was the DCEU’s rendition of Flash’s Cosmic Treadmill that he uses to travel through time (Snyder had teased the fans about the introduction of the device in his version of the movie). This would also answer how Flash was able to travel back in time to warn Wayne about the possibility of the global destruction at the hands of Darkseid. View the full article
  6. If you’ve ever wondered how far we’ve come when it comes to mobile phones, we would like to take you back to 1973. It was the time when Motorola showcased the first mobile phone of the world that weighed 2 Kilograms and was bigger than any phone we’ve used in recent memory. While this phone was still a prototype, it was used to demonstrate cellular technology almost 47 years ago. © Wikipedia Commons Due to the development of large-scale integration (LSI) technology and metal-oxide semiconductors; it led to the development of the world’s first affordable mobile communications device. While the first commercially available mobile phone didn’t arrive before 1984; the first-ever mobile device was shown by Martin Cooper of Motorola almost eleven years before. The company later released the world’s first commercially available handled cellular phone called the Motorola DynaTac 8000x. It was a more refined version of the prototype that weighed considerably less and was a bit smaller as well. The refined version weighed around 790 g which is still quite heavy and unwieldy by today’s standard. © Wikipedia Commons To put things into perspective, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x is still considerably large when compared to phones today. The phone was also quite expensive as it retailed for $3,995 ($9,831 in today’s money) at the time and was not considered a mass-market item in 1983. The phone was powered by a lithium-ion battery, something we still use today in our smartphones. The phone was also used to place the first commercial wireless call as David D. Meilahn called Bob Barnett, former president of Ameritech Mobile Communications from his 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL. © Motorola Legacy Archives While we may consider the phone to be extremely bulky today and quite unwieldy; the phone was considered to be revolutionary at the time. Mobile telephones were limited to cars or heavy briefcases at the time and the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x was the first true wireless handheld mobile phone. The phone also did not need any assistance from a mobile operator and users could directly call people if they knew the number. The phone was extremely popular as well and Motorola couldn’t make them fast enough to meet the demand. The phone wasn’t really made for teenagers and somewhat became a necessity for business owners that led to this phone’s success. © Motorola Legacy Archives The DynaTAC series phones are all but obsolete today as it used analogue networks or AMPS which are not used by network providers. The phone has now become more of a collector’s item for enthusiasts. What do you think about the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x and would you be able to use it today? Let us know in the comment what you think about the godfather of every mobile phone that followed. View the full article
  7. PUBG, Counter-Strike, and Dota are said to be some of the most popular titles on Steam. They account for millions of active players every single day. But every so often, we see a game that just steals all the attention. Well, Fall Guys is one of those games. Fall Guys is essentially a Battle Royale game in which you enter the arena with a lot of other players and your objective is to survive till the end. But instead of surviving with weapons and smarts, your objective here is to make it through all the obstacles. © Devolver Digital Playing Fall Guys is basically as close as we'll ever get to going on Takeshi's Castle. You drop in with 59 other players and the rest is all about having fun out there. Here, watch this trailer - Each Fall Guys session takes place over five rounds of elimination contests. In every round, you control a bean-shaped "fall guy". You'll jump through obstacle courses, swinging between platforms and pendulums trying to throw you off the game. It's a lot of fun to play, especially with your friends. The team behind Fall Guys said they saw 1.5 million players within the first 24 hours of the release. That's an insane number considering the fact it came out of nowhere. Steam database numbers reveal that Fall Guys is more popular than GTA 5 and has a more concurrent number of players. When we say Fall Guys is experiencing a lot of traffic... We had over 1.5 million new players in the first 24 hours! We're working on our first patch for the game, listening to ALL of your feedback and ideas, and are super grateful to everyone who's supported so far! ️ pic.twitter.com/OpD714xu26 — Fall Guys (@FallGuysGame) August 5, 2020 Fall Guys even comes close to PUBG. It may not have surpassed PUBG, but the fact it's already up there on the top means that it's a lot more popular than PUBG too. There's also a lot of buzz around it online, more than PUBG ever had. Fall Guys is available for just Rs 529, which we think is a really good price. It's a lot of fun to play and we think it's one of the best online games out there right now. Be sure to check it out if you're looking for something new to play with your friends. The game is available to play on PC and PS4. Check out Fall Guys on Steam View the full article
  8. Rakshabandhan marks an important day in the annual Hindu calendar. It’s an auspicious day when the bond between brothers and sisters is formally celebrated. Now, although certain aspects of celebrating the ‘vow to protect’ associated with Rakshabandhan is up for debate, let us utilise this very traditional understanding of the festivity to serve a greater cause. What I mean to suggest is that, this Rakshabandhan, let us make a few extra promises and extend protection and support to certain matters of great significance without limiting ourselves to vowing about protecting and supporting just our sisters. © Flickr Listed below are 5 such crucial matters that are affecting thousands of lives in our country and need our attention and support to turn over a fresh leaf, to grow and prosper or just exist happily and live to their fullest potential, because that is what they deserve. Let’s promise to protect and support: 1. Our EnvironmentThe on-going coronavirus pandemic might be the most obvious sign of distress that our planet and mother Nature could have given us. After centuries of exploitation and abuse, our environment, including the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we need to sustain and the resources we require to grow, is losing its power and purity. © Twitter - minatracks Glaciers are melting away at top speed, temperatures are constantly rising, sea water levels are going up, the air quality around the world is plummeting, massive wildfires, hurricanes and floods have become the new normal… The Earth is requesting us to slow down, introspect and change our destructive ways before we lead this beautiful planet down a road of devastation there would be no coming back from. So perhaps the least we can do is to welcome small and positive changes that would help heal and revive the environment and this planet. 2. The Minority Communities © indiatomorrow There is enough on-going talk around minority issues in the country. But without getting into that debate, let us instead do our bit to educate and amplify the needs of those who do not have the numbers to make themselves heard. Be it linguistic, religious or even cultural minorities comprising numerous tribes and castes, we need to admit that a majority of Indian population isn’t ‘privileged’. So let us try to learn, understand and help them make their lives better by saying no to discrimination in every form, by rejecting oppression of the backward and poor, by speaking up against exploitation and threats whenever we witness it. That’s the best way to keep our social fabric intact and allow age-old cultures and communities stay alive and thrive. 3. The LGBTQ+ Movement © Reuters Our fellow brothers and sisters from the LGBTQ+ community have just started to experience the taste of freedom. After years of struggles and innumerable instances of discrimination, attacks and ill-treatment, they are now finally living without fear. But is that all they deserve? Should they be content with only this win? No. They deserve so much more. They deserve to be respected and acknowledged, they deserve to feel safe and accepted, to be treated as equals and given the same rights and opportunities each one of us enjoy (and often take for granted) by virtue of being humans and citizens of India. The least we can do is support their fight to claim what rightfully belongs to them and help them live as happy, prospering individuals. We need to protect and build a future where they can truly live happily, regardless of who they choose to love or what their gender orientation is. 4. Those Who Can’t Speak For Themselves © Twitter Smaridh Raj By this I mean to draw your attention to the plight of harmless animals (and birds) who are abused and killed by selfish, cruel and diabolical humans who think they are the lords of the world. Recently, so many instances of animal abuse came into light, such as feeding elephants and cows food filled with crackers, which led to the end of innocent animal lives. That’s not all, so many pets and street animals have had to suffer in the hands of insensitive humans since the coronavirus outbreak with several owners disowning their pets and many others turning a blind eye towards hungry street animals or attacking those who tried to rescue/feed them. It’s time we truly and honestly start thinking about our responsibility as humans and do our bit to protect those who cannot speak up for themselves. These are just a few ways how making just four new promises this Rakhi can make this world a better place. Would you be making these promises? View the full article
  9. Be it fashion or grooming, Ranveer Singh is extra AF. This is becoming a universal truth, no matter what you believe. Quirky hairstyles, OTT outfits, ensembles that someone would wear only on a dare - these have been routine for Ranveer. And might we add, Ranveer does pull them off with swagger. © Instagram/ranveersingh As far as fashion is concerned, Ranveer’s competitor from the west would be someone like Jared Leto, or Billie Porter for that matter. However, in terms of grooming, it has always been the former One Direction star, Zayn Malik. © Reuters Why, you ask? Well, in case you haven’t stalked both of them on Instagram, you wouldn’t know that both of them redefine the meaning of going overboard when it comes to grooming. Thick, heavyset kohl, crazy experiments with hair and beards - these are just some of the stuff that they have tried out. Here are 4 Instances when Ranveer trumped Zayn, and out-groomed the Dusk Till Dawn hitmaker. Wearing Kajal/Kohl In Public © Viral Bhayani If your grandma often put kohl under your eyes when you were a child, you’re not alone. However, if you’ve actually stepped out of your house, with a layer of thick, but properly applied kohl under your eyes, you are confident on a whole new level. As for Zayn, although we really appreciate a major star like him normalising cosmetics and makeup. But here, Ranveer takes the cake. © Instagram/zayn Pulling Off A Traditional Quiff © Instagram/ranveersingh Well if you had assumed that after all those years of being energised and charged up like nothing else, Ranveer wouldn’t know how to pull off a basic quiff, well you certainly aren’t aware of his skill as a master of disguise that he is. When Zayn decided to go for a quiff, it was cool. Just not as cool as Ranveer. © Instagram/zayn Shaving Their Heads Off © Instagram/ranveersingh If you’re going to shave your head off, you better have a solid beard and stache game going. Human beings look very weird without any hair above their necks. We have often seen Zayn with a shaved head, and sporting a stubble instead. However, you ought to have a well-set beard, or a thick moustache or some sort of facial hair to offset the balance, especially when you have a thin face. © Reuters Going Bonkers Crazy With His Hairstyle © Instagram/ranveersingh And Finally, we have this gem. Of course, Ranveer is using some hiar extensions, but he has had to braid his hair as well for the extensions to work. Now that’s a bonkers style to go for. And here are 3 Instances When Zayn had Ranveer by the ropes. Unkempt long hair © Instagram/zayn This right here is the reason why we suggest you stalk Zayn on Instagram. Seriously, this is the best personification of a devil may care attitude that we have ever seen on anyone. Ranveer though, not so much. The point clearly goes to Zayn. © Instagram/ranveersingh Dyed Hair © Instagram/zayn Ranveer has had dyed his hair a few times, mainly for commercials and films, but nothing, and we seriously mean nothing, can even possibly come close to what Zayn has had done to his hair. The Ponytail © Instagram/ranveersingh And finally, there is the ponytail. Throughout his musical career, Zayn has experimented with a number of different styles of ponytails. Needless to say, he knows which ones work, and when your hair is best left open. Ranveer’s version of the short ponytail was a disaster and looked comical at best. Still, we love that he at least tried something different and befitting for an outfit that was all out bonkers. © Instagram/ranveersingh Say what you will about the two though, they are visionaries when it comes to creating statements out of their grooming choices. 11. Sony's PlayStation 5 is not out yet, and we don't even have an official launch date for it. However, we already know quite a bit about the console. More recently, we've learned that the new console is going to have a shorter life cycle than the previous console. For those of you who don't know, the PS4 was launched in November 2013, which means people have been using the console for seven years now and it's still going strong. But from what we've learned, it looks like the PS5 life cycle could 'live' for just five years. © Sony According to DigiTimes, sources from Sony's back-end supply chain in Taiwan made the five-year claims for the PS5. That, as you can see, is less than what we've been seeing with the previous generation consoles. Obviously, there's no way to confirm this but five years sounds like less considering the fact that it's said to be a super-powerful console. Additionally, the supply chain folks over there claimed that Sony will ship between 120 and jio170 million consoles throughout its lifespan. That's an incredibly ambitious number given the fact that Sony has hit 110 PS4 units over the last six years. As to how it'll compare against Microsoft's Xbox Series X, Sony is expected to get double the numbers. Will We See A New Console? © Sony So what's going to happen after the end of the expected five-year period? Will we get a new console from Sony? Maybe. Sony has already filed trademarks for the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and the PS10. So it's safe to say that Sony has tentative plans to continue releasing new consoles. Honestly, it's too early to dwell on this topic. We haven't got our hands on the console yet, so let's not speculate. We hope Sony announces release date for the console soon and we get to use it to see exactly how powerful it really is. Source: Digitimes View the full article
  12. Friends are a blessing. Well, for the most part, until they aren’t. You don’t want us telling you exactly why since you are here reading this article. With that kind of headline in place, it is pretty evident why you may have ended up here: a. You have been blessed with such a 'friend'. b. You think your partner may have such a friend. c. You believe you may be that friend, and want us to prove otherwise. © T-Series Well, no matter what made you decide to click on this story, let me just say that many people around you may have, or know such individuals who are very invested in their friend’s relationships, so much so, that, often they take it upon themselves to decide the couple’s fate. However, it isn’t always easy to identify or be sure if you have such a friend(s) in your own friend circle. So, here are 5 signs to look out for which prove that your friend is dictating your love life: 1. They Know Every Small Detail About Your Relationship As Much As You © Dharma Productions One of the most obvious signs is that you often find yourself filling your friend(s) in on every little detail related to your relationship. How this understanding comes to pass isn’t always clear, though in most cases, it stems from a pre-established norm where you two share a history of sharing everything related to your life with each other. But we need to realise that this case is different. A romantic relationship between two grown-ups is a private affair and therefore demands a sense of sanctity, exclusivity and trust which shouldn’t be breached. Not even for a friend. 2. You Can’t Make Decisions Own Your Own & Need To Consult With Them © Maddock Films Do you often find yourself second-guessing your own decisions related to every other aspect of your relationship? Is this accompanied by a need to take a second opinion from your friend on how to manoeuvre through your own relationship? Well, that’s a big bold sign that you’ve given way too much inside access to your friend to decide on your behalf. While consulting your friend on important decisions is totally fine, but when you find yourself turning to them to help you decide or decide on your behalf every other time, that’s saying something. 3. They Tell You How To Feel Or What To Think In Your Relationship © Eros International A direct spillover from the previous point. Granting too much access to your friend and discussing every aspect of your relationship with them on a regular basis bears the risk of having them turn into an active partner in the relationship, which involves you and your SO. This can often shift the dynamics with your friend guiding you on how to feel or think about something related to your relationship. Yes, friends can always offer their words of wisdom whenever needed, but when someone is too invested in your relationship, they might try to impose their beliefs and reactions on to you, because they feel they know what needs to be done. And that isn’t healthy for your romantic relationship at all. 4. They Make You Feel Guilty For Not ‘Sharing’ Private Details © Red Chillies Productions So, there have been times when you held back from sharing some more serious or private details from your friend, only to have them take offence and make you feel guilty for not ‘sharing’ stuff anymore. They almost seemed oblivious to the fact that it’s your personal relationship and you have the right to not make everything about it public. So they insist and persist and eat at your brain to ‘spill’. Well, that’s a sign, isn’t it? 5. They Want You To Prioritise Your Friendship, Always © T-Series Yes, they know you have a partner. Yes, they seem happy that you’ve found yourself a SO, but all this excitement seems to come with some conditions applied. It’s almost as if everything is cool so long as you don’t make too many plans with your partner. Alternatively, they either want to tag along, or expect you to ignore your partner for the rest of the days and just be their friend first, ‘like old times’. You telling them that you can balance both doesn’t sit well with them, and they’d rather be at the top of your priority list, come what may. Doesn’t always work that way, right? So that’s your cue. Can you think of someone who fits the bill? What do you plan to do now that you know? Let us know in the comments section below. View the full article
  13. We're only six months into the year, but 2020 has already been quite an eventful year. From a possible World War 3 to a full-blown pandemic, we've seen it all. While we're still struggling to get out of a pandemic, it looks like there's already a new disease coming out of China. According to a new report, a city in Northern China sounded an alert after a suspected case of bubonic plague was reported. A level 3 warning of plague prevention and control came out of Bayannur, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The suspected case was reported by a hospital in Bayannur. © Reuters The warning period will apparently continue until the end of 2020. The local health authority has confirmed the case and said there's a risk of a human plague epidemic spreading in the city. This, by the way, wasn't the first suspected case of this newly reported plague. Earlier this month, two other adults were found to be affected. They both are brothers and they're being tested at two separate hospitals. The brother reportedly ate marmot meat. Marmot, for those of you who don't know, is a type of rodent. A total of 146 people, who they've been in contact with, have been isolated and are being treated at local hospitals. Bubonic plague is a bacterial disease that is spread by flies living on wild rodents such as marmots. It can kill an adult in less than 24 hours if not treated in time. Last year, a couple died in the western Mongolian province of Bayan-Ulgii after eating raw marmot meat. The researchers are now concerned about further mutation so that they can transfer from person to person. That's probably the worst thing that can happen while we're already battling a full-blown pandemic. People are obviously not happy about this whole situation that we're in. Here are some Twitter responses to this news about the new disease. No! I beg for mercy. I canât cope with any more such news... https://t.co/3CtrIrAVII â anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) July 5, 2020 True that Itne virus hum biology class me na padhe honge jitne ye log iss saal invent kar chuke he ð¤£ð¤£ â Appu (@Appu_Jr1) July 5, 2020 We wish everything happening in 2020 was 'Fake News' Please tell me it's fake news. â Asha (@iamAshaLatha) July 5, 2020 Let's not step out of the house only. @PMOIndia seal boarders till end of 2020 . â SVDragnov (@SDragnov) July 5, 2020 We really hope we're not looking at a serious disease here. 14. From being portrayed as perennial macho men with a penchant for saving damsels to showing their vulnerable side and being open to emotions, Bollywood's portrayal of male characters has sure come a long way. Back in the early 80s, men were shown as larger-than-life characters with the focus mostly on this burning rage that they carried within them all the time. The concepts of 'ladke rote nahi hai' and 'mard ko dard nahi hota' were pretty much a constant back in the day for Indian cinema but now, things have changed drastically as male characters are challenging stereotypes. Here are 7 brilliant male characters that we have seen in Bollywood movies, who opened the dialogue around the notion that men are not just about being 'strong', 'tough', 'angry' and 'manly': 1. Shahid Kapoor As Aditya Kashyap - Jab We Met © T-Series Aditya Kashyap in Jab We Met is a very beautifully written character and anyone who has seen the movie can attest to that. Here we have a man who wants to create a safe environment for a woman, a complete stranger, who's travelling with him. He is humble, poised, and someone who thinks about others before himself. He makes sure that Geet is comfortable in the journey with him, showing the audience that men can be trusted and are not just mere stalkers, whose goal is to simply chase down the woman, irrespective of her wishes. "Haan, main tujhe bahut pasand karta hoon par woh mera problem hai. Tujhe tension lene ki koi zaroorat nahin. (Yes, I love you but thatâs my problem. You don't have to worry about it)," this dialogue by him just goes on to show the depths of his personality. 2. Vikrant Massey As Amol - Chhapaak © FoxStarHindi When you fall for someone, one of the first things to strike is looks and beauty. But, Amol in Chhapaak is here to show you a different side of men who believe that love is not just about falling for looks alone and that the person on the inside also matters. Amol falls for Malti's courage, ethics, and how she deals with all her sorrows. That in itself is what makes her beautiful to him, even though her face was left disfigured from the acid attack. 3. Shah Rukh Khan As Kabir Khan - Chak De! India © YRF Kabir Khan is one of the very few male characters, who is a feminist, that we have seen on the big screen. He coaches a team of female national hockey players and does not go easy on them just because they are women, as it should be. Khan sees them as hockey players, not as women, making it clear right from the start that gender does not matter to him when it comes to doing his job. However, he is also someone who does not hold back from reminding the girls from time to time how strong they are as women. True feminism. 4. Manav Kaul As Ashok Dube- Tumhari Sullu © T-Series Ashok Dube, another well-crafted character, shows how a man, in a household, is capable of making drastic changes to his life and give the reins over to his better half, if need be. His wife takes on a job of being an RJ at night who hosts a live show and talks to people, especially men, who get addicted to her voice. She slowly starts earning way more than Ashok and this, somehow, affects him. But he does not let himself be consumed by the negative feelings and becomes supportive of his wife and her venture. Well, this is a beautiful transition of roles that we should celebrate. 5. Ayushmann Khurrana As Kartik Singh - Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan © T-Series A lot has already been talked about this particular project on how it challenged the stereotypes surrounding the LGBTQ community in our country. Kartik is a character who is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the portrayal of gay men in Bollywood. He shows how being gay does not necessarily make one 'girly' or 'feminine', something a lot of people still think to this day, and that they are regular people who just want what other couples want- acceptance and acknowledgement. 6. Arjun Kapoor As Kabir Kamlesh Bansal - Ki And Ka © Eros Now When the movie released in 2016, people couldn't stop raving about Arjun's progressive character, a man who aspires to be a house husband. For years, we have seen movies with women taking command of the kitchen and running the house, but here we have Kabir who has no qualms in doing the household chores and letting his wife earn. 7. Amitabh Bachchan As Bhashkor Banerjee - Piku © Sony Entertainment Pictures Our dads may sure be liberal but we cannot, in no way, indulge in a conversation about our virginity with them. And then there is Bhashkor, who is changing that notion as he doesn't shy away in accepting, publically, that his daughter Piku is sexually active and he has no issues with that. These characters make us want to celebrate men in a very different way and we are glad that Bollywood is evolving towards a progressive direction through these brilliant characters. 16. Sushant Singh Rajput was no ordinary actor but a man who made sense in every argument made or projected in his interviews. He was a space junkie, a well-learned man, a lover of meta-physics, and someone who believed in being more of an actor than a star. Suddenly, people have started to realize that he was a gem that we lost but the only question that haunts us is where was this outpour of love when he was alive. Itâs been more than half a month that he is gone and people are still trying to wrap their heads around what happened. © MensXP Saif Ali Khan, in one of his recent interviews, said that all the love that is coming for Sushant is nothing but hypocrisy and gave valid points about the double standards of the industry. For those who donât know, Saif shot with Sushant for Dil Bechara and will be seen in a special role in the movie. Well, the Nawab of Bollywood has been giving interviews and when asked about Sushant, he has all the good things to mention about him. © MensXP In a recent live interaction with The New Indian Express, Saif mentioned that he felt Sushant was brighter than him. âI got the feeling he was brighter than I was,â told the actor. Saif added that he had a bright future and always wanted to talk about intellectual things. âI thought he had a bright future. He was polite to me and appreciated my guest appearance in the film. He wanted to talk about many topics like astronomy and philosophy,â said the actor. © MensXP Well, Saif has been appreciative of how Sushant was a nice human being and he liked the actor for his generosity. In another interview, he said, "He was very nice to me and he said he wanted to come and have a drink and talk about various things, which never happened, which I feel bad about. Maybe I could have, you know, helped in some way or not⦠I donât know. But after working with him, I quite liked him because he was nice,â said Saif. Saif also mentioned in one of the interviews that Sushant was talented and was interested in the same things Saif used to like. âI think he had very refined looks and was very talented. When I met him, I thought he was a little on the edge. And he was a little, I don't know - I think he was looking for something. He was interested in the same things as me in some ways like he liked astronomy, and he liked discussing some of this philosophy,â said Saif. © MensXP In an interview with Anupama Chopra, he said that his daughter Sara Ali Khan too was quite fond of him because he was intelligent, hardworking, and a good actor. âShe liked him very much. She was quite impressed with certain aspects of his personality. She told me he was very intelligent, that he could discuss, you know, Jean-Paul Sartre and he could discuss various aspects of philosophy and engineering and that he had learned how to shoot with a bow and arrow left-handed, and he was very fit as well as very hard-working, and a good actor,â said Saif. After knowing this much, it does feel that we have lost a gem who was a master of his craft and also was an intelligent human being who was different from many people running in the daily race of life. According to a report by Bloomberg, Mac computers will be housing Appleâs custom processors instead of chips from Intel. The report goes on to say Apple will be announcing the new move at its annual developer conference later this month. © daniel-korpai-unsplash The new chipsets are rumoured to be based on the same technology used in iPhones and iPads that are already industry-leading for its performance and power capabilities. Having said that, macOS have completely different requirements than iPhones and it would be interesting to see how Apple plans to integrate the new chips. Apple will be licensing the technology from Arm Limited and will have a different architecture as Intel chips. Developers will need to optimise their apps for future macOS products if this rumour turns out to be true. It will be the first time in 36 years Apple will be using their own chipsets for their laptops and computers. © radek-grzybowski--unsplash The shift to custom processors comes after Apple engineers got worried about sticking to Intelâs roadmap which would delay or derail Appleâs future plans. Bloomberg reports that Apple has been testing Arm-based Macs internally and have already seen sizeable improvements over MacBooks using Intel chipsets. Apple is aiming for more power-efficient chipsets that will enable the laptops to be even thinner and lighter. The report adds that Apple has been working on three different versions of its own processors. The processor is said to have its own graphics processing unit and a Neural Engine for machine learning and other types of AI learning. Apple has been working on chipsets for laptops for years and we may finally see their results at the annual WWDC conference scheduled for later this month. Apple is expected to announce new versions of iOS, TVOS, iPadOS, macOS and other improvements for the following year. Source: Bloomberg View the full article
  18. If you enjoy playing video games and have played a lot of single-player titles, then you probably already know what we're about to talk about. Some of the video games that I've played had such an emotional ending that they're better than most of the movies I've watched. Anyway, we're not trying to draw any direct comparisons here, but here's a list of games which we think had more emotional endings than movies and they're worth playing at least once. Life Is Strange Life Is Strange offers the kind of narrative journey that a few video games or even movies can match. It shows one of those video games that tells a compelling story and will keep your interest. I am obviously not going to spoil the game by talking about the ending, but all three installments (including the DLC) are great. The second installment, in particular, has multiple endings, and they all are quite emotional. The Last Of Us The Last Of Us is one of those games that'll stay with me for a very long time. For a game that's based on a post-apocalyptic world, The Last Of Us tells a very emotional story and weaves a great relationship between the two lead characters in the game, Joel and Ellie. You'll get so attached to the characters and the story, that it'll be difficult to let go of it once the story ends. Luckily, the sequel is coming out next month. The Walking Dead Telltale games know how to narrate a good story and The Walking Dead is a really good example. This is a game that spans across a few episodic seasons and collectively they all deliver a heart-wrenching story that's worth playing for. The game takes place in the popular comic and AMC TV series universe and you may even see a familiar face there, so be sure to check it out. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is a very important installment in the series because it marks the end of Nathan Drake's adventures in the game. You already know what they mean, right? Nathan Drake is one of those characters that you'll get attached to, especially if you play all the titles in the franchise one after the other. The final cutscene of the game pulled all the heartstrings for me and I was really sad to put down my controller. Red Dead Redemption 2 The Red Dead Redemption 2 narrates a story that's based around romance, redemption, revenge, and more. It's about living a character and making him the person you want to be with your choices. The story has you rooting for the protagonist Arthur Morgan, and it's all about helping the man find the peaceful life he desires while keeping all the relations in one piece. View the full article
  19. Like many Bollywood actors, Shahid Kapoor isnât a stranger to the world of fast, luxurious and exclusive cars. The 39-year-old performer owns several European brands from Jaguar to Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover, although after a 10-year long tryst with his 2010 Vogue S, the car is finally on the market for grabs. In this video by Fahad Munshi of Lucky Motors in Santacruz, Mumbai, weâre shown a thorough walkaround of the vehicle on sale, alongside a Hummer H3. In 2009, Land Rover offered only two engine options in the Range Rover in India. This Vogue S variant came powered by the highly acclaimed LR-TDV8 diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 271 Bhp. The British SUV was, at its time, one of the most sought-after luxury 4x4 vehicles in the world. © Range Rover This was true, especially in India. Shahid Kapoor was the first person to get the delivery of the 2010 Land Rover Range Rover in the country, which is why he received the keys at a special event from none other than Ratan Tata, who acquired the brand (along with Jaguar) from Ford Motors in 2008. © BCCL The car also carries a â700â VIP registration number on the plate, and it seems like Shahid has customised the SUV with an all-black theme, rounded off with blacked-out headlamps. © Youtube/Lucky Motors While some may think that the asking price of Rs 40 lakh is unreasonable for a ten-year-old vehicle, Shahidâs Range Rover has just barely 37,000 kilometres on it, which is very reasonable for a car of this age. © Cartoq Add to that the VIP plates, impeccable condition and of course, bragging rights and youâve got a pretty unique car on your hands. 20. All the 80s and 90s kids would agree to the fact that 'Music Phones' were big when they first started coming out. Everybody wanted to get their hands on one of them because of just how popular they were. Obviously, they don't get enough love these days given how a smartphone can do pretty much anything and everything now. But it's safe to say that a lot of those good old music phones were better at playing music than most of the smartphones that come out these days. Seriously, there are no dedicated music features these days. Even the speaker quality, besides on the high-end phones, is just okay-ish at best. So here's a quick look at some of the best music phones from the past that we'd love to have today - Nokia XpressMusic 5310 © Nokia This is the phone that probably comes to a lot of people's minds because of how popular it was back in the day. It came out in 2007 and had dedicated media controls on the side of the display. The speakers on this phone were louder than what you get on most smartphones these days. Nokia has now announced a new version of the XpressMusic and we can't wait to check it out. Nokia XpressMusic 5800 © Nokia After the success of the original XpressMusic feature phone, Nokia came up with the XpressMusic 5800 with touchscreen. It was one of the very first touch screen phones to go mainstream. This phone also had dedicated music controls and was running on Nokia's Symbian OS. What a great phone! Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman © Sony Ericsson Sony Ericsson had some really cool phones on the market back in the day and this was definitely a big hit. A walkman for listening to music that's also a phone? People went crazy for this particular phone and rightfully so. This phone had some cool music features like a dedicated key that allowed you to get a quick preview of the chorus of a song. Awesome, right? Moto Rokr E1 © YouTube Clip In a world where the iPod was dominating the music industry, Steve Jobs was worried about a cellphone company taking over the attention with multimedia features. So he decided to team up with another company to get an Apple-sanctioned phone into the marketplace first. He picked Motorola and the Moto Rokr E1 was released with Apple's iTunes. These were some of the great music phones from the past that were some of our favourites. In case you think we missed any of your favorite cellphones from the past, do let us know in the comments below. View the full article
  21. No matter what day of the week, you will find me playing games the moment I finish my work. While most movies these days turn out to be disappointing and have predictable plots, video games, on the other hand, offer more value and entertainment than ever before. Two years ago, I wrote a feature on how video games are already bigger than movies, today the industry has become bigger even in India. Games have also become a better medium for storytelling than movies right now. Here are 4 reasons why I prefer playing video games over watching movies: 1. Itâs More Immersive © CDProjektRed Games are known for having awesome character development and plot details that are not possible in movies. Since many games can run for over 20 hours, you get enough time to experience the story. In some games, you can even tell your own story by making key decisions or by developing a certain type of character. You can be evil in games or the good old hero trying to save the world, itâs your choice really especially in role-playing games. In movies and TV shows, you simply watch the main character do things while in games, YOU get to be the main character and experience the story for yourself. You can create how your character looks and what kind of clothes it can wear. You can even choose your characterâs voice and style of playing. Sure, not all games have the best plot but there are plenty of games out there with better storylines than most movies today. 2. You Live In a Whole Different World © Sega When playing open-world games, you donât only get to experience great characters but an entirely different world from your own as well. Some games feature a world with different islands, fauna and animals that you can interact with. We recently played Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the city of Midgar looks better than most cities in the world. Similarly, if you like a fantasy setting, you can check out the world of The Witcher series. If you ever wondered what Tokyo feels and looks like, you can check out games like the Yakuza series. There are so many different worlds to check out in games that can never be accurately represented in movies and TV shows. 3. I Donât Have To Deal With Bad Acting © naughty Dog Many movies feature actors that canât really act to save their lives. While iconic movies like The Godfather and other drama movies will always live-on; most movies today feature at least one bad actor that doesnât effectively suspend reality. However, while playing games, you can easily get lost in the world, narrative and gameplay for hours. Games now feature great voice-actors that make cut-scenes believable. Games like The Last of Us have a profound impact on players because of its great voice-acting and motion-captured cutscenes. It is also needed to point out that there are plenty of games that feature bad acting, animations and voice acting as well. Just like movies, we have bad games too and are not immune to bad actors either. 4. Video Games are Global © Unplash Whether you play PUBG or Rainbow Six Siege, you are bound to make friends from different regions to play the game together. Thatâs the beauty of video games, it connects people with each other from all over the world which isnât necessarily true for movies and TV shows. Games are developed all over the world and thereâs a high chance youâve played some of them. Ever played Mario or Contra? Both these games were developed in Japan. Played PUBG recently? It was developed by BlueHole based in South Korea. View the full article
  22. Early this Sunday, Mumbaiâs Nair hospital experienced nothing short of a Mother's Day miracle. After being turned down by seven hospitals, an expectant mother was taken in by Dr Ganesh Shinde of Nairâs Gynaecology department, where despite having tested positive for COVID-19, she delivered a set of healthy triplets - each of whom tested negative for the deadly virus. Itâs not too much of a stretch to say that sheâs been through one of the most dire 24-hours of her life this weekend, but if thereâs a Motherâs Day message to take home from here, itâs this: There is nothing more difficult on this Earth than being a mother. Being A Mother Is A Full-Time Job via GIPHY I think we all deserve some slack for not realising this as children. After being asked countless times about our ambitions and plans for the future, many of us wanted to grow up as soon as possible - no more rules to follow? That sure sounded great back then. And so, as we grew older into our teenage years, we threw ourselves into friendships, relationships and personal interests that came and went - all with the hope that we wouldnât grow old with regrets. All while our mothers stood by our sides and dealt with our mood swings, our avoidant behaviour and tendency to jump the nest. © Trimurti Films While we make progress on the front of women's rights inch by inch every day, itâs only been just over seventy years since the first womenâs rights movement marched onward in the western world - just a blink in the eye of human history. When our mothers were growing up in the late 20th century, many of them had to fight against social pressures the likes of which we take for granted today - especially as men. Having a child as an Indian woman came with many expectations that remain invisible to us today, especially if weâre not actively looking for them. Our mothers have sacrificed so much in the name of raising us - everything from career opportunities as working women to late nights and early mornings spent on household chores and family expectations. Not Just A Mom, But A Friend Too © Hope Productions Thatâs why, perhaps this Motherâs Day, when weâre socially distanced and donât have the means to produce grand gestures or expensive gifts, perhaps the most important thing we can give our mothers is the chance to open up. To have a tougher, but more honest conversation about the realities theyâve faced and the sacrifices theyâve had to make. One that they could not have with a young child by their side, but can definitely have with an older, matured one who also isnât just a son or daughter - but a friend to lean on as well. 23. Irrfan Khanâs impact on Indian filmmaking cannot be understated, no doubt. Across two decades of initial struggle and eventual worldwide success and fame, the actor has lent his talent to everything from some of Bollywoodâs most timeless films, to high-profile Hollywood castings and perhaps on a more day-to-day basis, several memorable advertisements throughout the years. While most recently remembered for his quick quips as a brand ambassador for LED manufacturers Syska - for whom the actor shot his last ad for in the midst of his gruelling battle with cancer. © SYSKA Irrfan lent his calm, collected persona to several major brands from all over the world - appearing in spots for everything from Vodafone to Mastercard. Rajiv Rao, former National Creative Director, Ogilvy India, worked with Khan on the Vodafone ads since the beginning. âWe were supposed to shoot in the night in Delhi for the Hutch ad,â he recalls. âBut he couldnât make it to the shoot for some reason and came the very next day. The shoot happened in Connaught Place in Delhi in a tiny tea shop. We shot the ad in the middle of the day in the Delhi heat, where he was supposed to have a âcutting chaiâ. I remember he had worked all night. He still came and made our shoot happen without complaining. He was excellent at the shoot.â Just one in a series of stories recalling the starâs humility and patience towards his work. Here are a few of his very best brand partnerships over the years: 1.Vodafone/Hutch Lena hai toh leh lo - the actorâs nonchalant attitude was a perfect fit for many brands on this list, but itâs fair to say that his delivery was perfected in this series of ads shot in 2009 for the telecom giant in partnership with Ogilvy & Mather. 2. Candid Dusting Powder Only Irrfan could make a medical powder brand cool - itâs also fun to see him cast alongside badminton champion Saina Nehwal in this quick TV spot from 2016. 3. LU Bakeri Nankhatai A really good example of Irrfanâs vocal range as a voiceover artist, this simple yet sweet ad crossed borders and gave us an unusual example of an Indian artist taking on a Pakistani brand - and speaking in Urdu to boot. 4. Mastercard One of the longer and more high-profile ads on this list, this showed Irrfan playing the role of a reserved pencil pusher opening up while travelling to attend a friendâs wedding in Jaipur. Shot by McCann, this also had a special connection to the actor, as many of his earliest efforts in the theatre took place during his youth spent in the Pink City. 5. Aegon Religare While most of Irrfanâs ad appearances show him as a slick, modern individual, this one flipped the script by casting him as a hilarious old man in disguise - taking note of the various expenses pensioners would have to face in old age. Itâs touching to notice that other than fans and movie personalities, several ad directors also wrote personal messages of support praising the actorâs professionalism and warmth - just take a look at this heartfelt letter written by Piyush Pandey, one of Indiaâs most well-respected and influential copywriters. Piyush Pandey is not on social media, so he asked me to post this message about Irfan Khan. pic.twitter.com/kvkRTe2TtA â Anant Rangaswami (@AnantRangaswami) April 29, 2020 I guess the next time we see those Syska ads, theyâll hit pretty differently. It is called the Warp Charge 30 wireless charger that uses proprietary technology to charge the OnePlus 8 Pro wirelessly at 30W which translates to 50 per cent top-up in just 30 minutes. © OnePlus The OnePlus wireless charger was announced for $70 in the US and â¬70 in Europe but never revealed the official pricing of the charger for India. But a recent leak has confirmed the wireless charger will retail in India for Rs 3,990; cheaper than any region OnePlus has launched this charger. The charger also has an in-built fan to keep the phone cool while charging wirelessly. It can also be used to charge other devices that support wireless charging however it will only charge at 5W when not using a OnePlus phone. © OnePlus Previous tests have shown that the fan on the wireless charger does make considerable amounts of noise. However, that can be avoided by using a Bedtime mode. This mode will let users turn off the fan manually but the charging speed will then be reduced at 10W. As the name suggests, this mood should be used during sleeping hours for a more silent performance than the fast-charging mode. The charger is expected to sell in India by next month when the country is expected to relax the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are also expected to sell alongside the charger albeit it is only compatible with the âProâ model. View the full article
