  1. After the demise of fashion giant Karl Lagerfeld, all eyes are on his cat. The cat, a red-point Birman named 'Choupette', is all set to inherit a part of the designer's multi-million dollar fortune, that will probably make her the richest cat in the world. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Jul 11, 2018 at 5:41pm PDT Karl Lagerfeld, fashion visionary and the Creative Director of Chanel, passed away on 19th February, and his feline companion Choupette, whom he referred to as the heiress of his fortune, will inherit a part of it. Lagerfeld's net worth is an estimated 195 million dollars. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Jun 18, 2017 at 10:10am PDT Not that Choupette needs the money, because she already lives an extremely lavish life and also is sort of a social media celebrity herself, with thousands of followers on Instagram and Twitter. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Mar 1, 2017 at 9:11am PST Choupette already has earned more than 3 million dollars herself, by doing high end modelling gigs. Depending on how much more money she inherits, she might overtake 'Blackie' as the richest pussycat in the world. (The record for being the richest cat in the world is currently held by a cat named Blackie, who inherited 7 million pounds from his British owner in 1988.) View this post on Instagram A post shared by Choupette Lagerfeld (@choupettesdiary) on Jan 1, 2017 at 10:21am PST Guess you want to trade lives with her now? We do, too.
  2. They say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Since fashion is subjective, we don't expect everyone to understand every trend. But when companies create bizarre products that are listed for ridiculous prices, we can't help but be shocked. Gucci's Cruise '19 collection features a pair of 'vintage distressed sneakers' that have us shook. The shoes look pre-dirty and worn and we're just not sure who would actually want to own a pair. Take a look at these babies. © Gucci © Gucci The product detail on the website lists that the shoes are inspired by vintage sportswear patterns from the 70s and is treated for an 'all-over distressed effect'. We don't know about distress but these just look plain dirty and worn out. They look a little too vintage, if you ask us. © Gucci If you're already frowning over the bizarre product, wait till we mention the price of these kicks. The Screener GG Sneaker is retailed at 870 USD which converts to Rs 61,938. That's pretty damn expensive for a pair of old worn-out looking shoes. © Gucci As if the Gucci 'racist' sweater controversy hadn't stirred enough trouble for the brand, this shoe is getting trolled by the internet too. Take a look at what some Twitter users had to say about this product. Gucci is really out here selling the sneakers your mom uses for gardening and Sunday cleaning for $800 pic.twitter.com/Eh5wEBQMSc — camille (@cxmillexxxx) October 30, 2018 The poor try to look rich and the rich try to look poor! ð — BROOKLYNBREAD (@Rinseyjones) November 7, 2018 When ur born rich a f but don't wanna be a called a snobby daddy's boy at school = Gucci's New Vintage Sportswear-Inspired Dirty Sneakers Cost $870 USD #gucci #guccifromthehood https://t.co/ektXQtoKIl — Nadia. K (@nadiakhairinas) November 7, 2018 After the Croc Bag, we weren't ready for another bizarre shoe just yet. On the brighter side, you wouldn't have to wash these sneakers.
  3. Has it ever happened to you, that you got back home with your date after a romantic dinner, and as soon as you took off your shoes, your date fainted? Well we hope not (and that was a hyperbole), but trust us, nothing will kill your *** life and your social life in general faster than smelly feet. It's super unpleasant, and more importantly, extremely embarrassing. © Getty Images No one wants to experience that damp, musty odour coming from your socks. Most men don't know how to get rid of it, and whenever they seek help, there's usually a long list of things that are presented to them that are effective but time-consuming. But worry not, for we are here, and we have a super easy solution that will take less than a minute every day. © Getty Images One needs to understand that the main reason behind feet odour is the sweat they produce, and bacteria and fungus trapped inside shoes and socks thrive in that moist, warm environment. If one can find a way to take away that moisture, odour can be significantly reduced. The best way? The good old, always handy, talcum powder. © Getty Images Every day after taking a shower, make sure to dry your feet properly - especially the spaces between the toes and your nail corners. Once that is done, put some talcum powder/baby powder on your feet and spread it all around with your hands. Then wear a pair of clean socks (you can also spray some powder inside the socks before putting them on). Use some anti-bacterial or anti-fungal powder for amazing results. © Getty Images And voila! You'll notice a difference instantly. Of course, apart from this, you definitely cannot underestimate the importance of maintaining feet hygiene and always washing them properly. Try not covering your feet up all the time and wear open toed footwear if you suffer from it all the time.
  4. Try tossing any idea or concept towards Amul and you can trust them to blow your minds away with their creativity. Time and again they have proved why people love their creative side more than their butter. Recently, they won or should we say cried together with millions of hearts, by paying homage to the CRPF jawans martyred in the deadly Pulwama terror attack. Earlier, they paid tribute to Vicky Kaushal's 'Uri' by showing everyone the 'Makhan Ka Josh'. #Amul Topical: Homage to our CRPF martyrs... pic.twitter.com/Q6mEl3eV7I — Amul.coop (@Amul_Coop) February 15, 2019 Now, Amul has won praises from people for their take on Ranveer Singh's blockbuster movie 'Gully Boy'. The illustration shows Alia, Ranveer and Siddhant's characters posing with butter and a slice of bread in their hands. Amul's version of 'Apna Time Aayega' is the only anthem that matter for every foodie out there - 'Apna Time Hai...Khayega!" #Amul Topical: Film 'Gully Boy' connects with audiences! pic.twitter.com/hWiGIatQ7E — Amul.coop (@Amul_Coop) February 18, 2019 Alia Bhatt even posted about the same on social media. Even before its release, 'Gully Boy' had blockbuster written all over it and now that it has hit the theatres, the movie has lived up to the expectations quite well. Apart from Ranveer Singh, people are also loving the performances of Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz and Vijay Varma in this movie directed by Zoya Akhtar.
  5. DJ Marshmello has a big fan following across the world and even enjoys a stellar fan base here in India. The man, known for the gigantic face that he puts over his head, was recently in news when he announced a collaboration with Indian composer Pritam and singer Shirley Setia for a song called 'Biba'.When the song finally dropped, it instantly became a hit and soon all his fans started asking for a video as well. The video finally released two days ago and boy, it's probably one of the best tributes to none other than the King Khan himself! Who knew that Marshmello was a fan? SRK makes a brief appearance in the end and shakes a leg with the DJ himself. We see a hybrid version of SRK & Marshmello dancing on different Shah Rukh songs through the video. ð¤ @iamsrk pic.twitter.com/ayCctGaHvp — marshmello (@marshmellomusic) February 15, 2019 His Indian fans are of course loving the video! 6. While modern day romance fails in extremity today, we still cling on to that hope of making everything porous and walk through the nuances of an equation, without giving it much purpose. After the advent of dating apps, the romantic behaviour between two people changed with time and there was definitely a slight curve in how relationships or any sort of romantic dynamic works today. © Instagram The generation that grew up post the 90s has trouble dealing with the likes of patience. Not because they're not inherently patient people, but because patience is no longer a prerequisite that's required to see the eventuality of a fruitful relationship. The 90s was an era without mobile phones, constant meet ups or even chatting. There were no DMs, no texts, but there were humble beginnings, and sleeping and waking up with a solid thought always on one's mind, without knowing what's going on in the other person's mind. Not because you didn't want to know, but because there was no way to find out unless you spoke to them over a wired phone, aka a landline. Obviously we're not in the 90s anymore and couples who're thorough with the philosophies of this generation know just how easy it is to communicate anything at anytime. So, then why aren't relationships malleable and long lasting anymore? Why does no one make much of an effort? Why is it so simple to let go, making boredom and not wanting to work hard a default flag bearer for crumbling relationships? Something to think about, isn't it? © Instagram Well, in a literal needle in the haystack situation, I came across a couple, who'd been acting like they're from the 90s, wherein they were absolutely brand new! They certainly proved me wrong and made me believe that old-school love and lasting relationships aren't always a myth and they dwell in the realms of genuine hardships too, if you try hard enough. Meet Siddhant and Naina. Two people who're individually so comfortable in their skin, they had no qualms about coming together and making their dynamic as stable as breathing. The two are young and in love and have been together for 5 years now, which means they started their journey when they were just 21! Siddhant and Naina set a benchmark for all couples old and new to take relationships a little more seriously, by being grounded and true to their roots and by displaying ample patience and understanding of what it really takes to make a relationship as solid as possible. © Instagram We became "phone friends" in high school but never actually met each other till much later. She was still hung up on her ex and I was in love with someone else and I guess we just found some solace in each other. Not in a romantic way but just in a 'here is this disembodied voice on the other end of the phone and this person is kinda fun to talk to.' Anyway, we lost touch soon after until we finally met again when were both older and the attraction was immediate - Siddhant That's how equations begin most times. You meet someone, you like their energy, you go ahead and speak to them and if your thoughts and ideas form similar semblances, you connect and continue that dynamic further. Both Siddhant and Naina were young and absolute novice to a 'romantic' space and they built it from the scratch to hold on to something at a time where holding on is just passé. They've endured most hardships relationships throw your way, including blood boiling fights, long-distance and understanding how friendship works side-by-side in a dynamic that's becoming stronger each day. © Instagram We are best friends and we connect on every level. And added to that he is the best human being I know. So I think I'd pick our first fight as a memory I can never forget, which was over something ridiculous on our way to watch Inception. We went through the silent treatment and the anger bubbling. That was the moment I realised this human being can also REALLY get on my nerves. - Naina Their First Date Ever They didn't choose a bar or a club or have rendezvous with drinks. I mean, it's believed they would because they belong to the generation where people seek thrill and adventure to get to know a stranger. You know, the inconsequentials of city life. But they didn't want a sense of instant gratification. They did the old school coffee date to get to know each other better and maybe see where their equation went after. We met at a cafe on a roof in Hauz Khas village, had a few beers and ate pizza. We were in this weird place where we were almost too friendly. Nobody was making flirty advances or anything, we were just chatting like old buds. I remember thinking that the cafe was totally empty, why wouldn't he just kiss me and I think when it finally occurred to him it was too late. - Naina © Instagram The imposition of making the overture of any relationship a social extravaganza to fulfil our societal needs and wants in today's day and age rules rather high. No one takes the time out to find out more than they should from the other person. Either it's having a drink or two at the local watering hole, where you and your SO surrounded by friend and acquaintances, or it's meeting each other over a lot of drinks to lower inhibitions. But here we have young guns, who'd established a long lasting equation, with silent promises to make it work as and when, over a cup of coffee! The Best Learnings From A Long-Term Relationship The thing about long term relationships if you start really young and make it till the end is you learn a lot. From yourself as a person and of course from the other person too. You learn early on how to give, how to commit to a moment, how to become absolutely selfless and flawless while dealing with certain obstacles in life. You treasure things that are imperative and you stop mocking patience as an obscure tool. You feel complete. Couples today, who're superfluous with their feelings, or callous with their associations, seldom get a chance to learn the significance of empathy and attachment, while also realising the importance of being an individual. In my relationship with Naina, I've learnt how to be confident, believe in myself, speak my mind, take no shit, be honest, be loyal and learn to accept people and understand where they're coming from. - Siddhant © Instagram We thrive in a hook-up-break-up generation, where *** is not a limited want anymore. Callous flings happen all the time, every time and the word commitment is losing its supposed meaning. While millennials love to experiment in open relationships, polyamory, extra-marital triumphs, flings, casual ***, bisexual curiosity, the entire thread of making a commitment more transparent is wavering off from people's minds. But then we have some couples like Naina and Siddhant who're holding on the very existence of 'love and friendship' and shaping it as a long-term commitment goal, even at 26. This is what we want to retain, in a space where everything is so fragile and intangible, and we really hope more couples aspire to be like them and their easy going, beautiful philosophy of a long-term relationship. © Instagram We completed 5 years together in October last year. Now I'm looking forward to a milestone and he rolls his eyes at me every time I hint at it. We've grown together over and over. He really is my best friend and we have that ability to look at each other as girlfriend and boyfriend but also as human beings/friends. We look out for each other like that. I think how Sid's grown is that he's become more vocal and confident about what he wants, what he loves, what he doesn't love and I think I've become calmer and more level headed because of him. - Naina
  7. Akshay Kumar is the undisputed and unconquered Khiladi of Bollywood, who enjoys some insane levels of fame and popularity. His crazy fanbase can do anything, literally anything for him or to meet him and this guy from Haryana just proved the same. How far can you go for your idol? Stalk them on social media, wait outside their house for hours just to get a glimpse, build a temple just like Amitabh and Rajinikanth's fans did for them, or tattoo their idols' names on their wrists. © Instagram But this 20-year-old from Haryana just went a little too far in expressing his love for 'Kesari' actor Akshay Kumar. In a typical filmy drama, Ankit Goswami from Sonipat, Haryana was arrested for allegedly trespassing into Akshay Kumar's house in Juhu. Reportedly, in his quest to meet Akshay, Ankit searched for the actor's address on Google and then travelled to Mumbai to meet him. When he was denied entry by the guards, he tried to break into his house post midnight, by jumping over the boundary wall. An officer said, "He climbed the wall at 1.30 am and entered. He was spotted by the guards, who got a hold of him and alerted the police." © Instagram However, he couldn't break in as he was caught by a security guard. Ankit is now in judicial custody and was charged under IPC for trespassing. Guys, not everything you see in Bollywood movies is meant to be tried and tested in real-life. Source: Hindustan Times
  8. One annoying problem that almost every guy in India faces, and doesn't know how to deal with, is that of 'dark armpits'. The climate in India is so tricky, that along with the pollution and temperature fluctuation, it gives rise to dark, unattractive underarms - irrespective of your overall complexion (not that colour/shade is important, it's just the conspicuous unevenness that's the issue). The result? Even if you're jacked, you're hesitant to wear sleeveless vests and racer-backs - even in the gym! Now, that's not fair. But worry not, for we have the perfect home remedies that will get rid of your dark armpits and lighten them up in less than 2 weeks. 1. Use coconut and almond oil © Getty Images One of the most important reasons why people get dark underarms is because they don't moisturize the area. Yes, the general consensus is that it's already hot, and that area is already damp with sweat, so there is no need to moisturize it. It's a huge misconception, and that also gives rise to less blood flow in that area, thereby causing dark, undernourished skin. Start massaging the area with coconut and almond oils at least once a day (preferably right after a shower), to see visible differences in the skin colour within 2 weeks. 2. Exfoliate with sugar © Getty Images More often than not, dry skin accumulated in your armpits result in the patchy, dark skin spots. You need to exfoliate your underarms to get rid of it and get an even complexion. The best way is to use sugar. Take some white/brown sugar, and mix it with a little bit of olive oil. Use the paste to exfoliate your underarms for a couple of minutes, and leave it on for about 5 minutes or so. Wash it off with water. 3. Use a lightening agent like lemon © Getty Images Lemon/lemon juice is a natural skin lightening agent. Cut a lemon in half, and use rub it against your underarm skin for a white. Leave it on for a bit, and wash it off with water. Try them for 2 weeks, and get rid of your dark underarms. You're welcome!
  9. Last year, PM Narendra Modi was announced as the world's most followed leader across all social media platforms. In fact, his social media presence and active response to his followers' tweets and posts speaks volumes about why so many people follow him. Even today, no other leader (not even Donald Trump) gets to enjoy such fame and popularity on social media, or so we thought. © Wikimedia Sorry to break this news to you PM Modi, but, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has successfully managed to dethrone you and has now become the biggest rage on social media. From being a favourite fodder for memes to getting weird hashtags to trend, Mamata Didi (as people lovingly call her) is breaking the internet like a boss. © Twitter While she is currently busy protesting against the Central government and PM Modi is meeting people from the Bollywood fraternity; people on social media are busy making hilarious memes and parody videos on these two. One such video is this what I like to call 'Didi Ka Gussa', which has started doing the rounds on the internet once again, thanks to an FB page called 'Unofficial PMO India'. This video is pure gold and PM Modi's rap is even better. Can we say, PM Modi is a better rapper than 'Gully Boy' Ranveer Singh? After watching this video I am sure you will agree with me. The video also has a cameo of Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav.

  11. 2019 is a visibly significant year for the world of television as the most famous show of the 21st century is now nearing its end. Fans are gearing up for the premiere of 'Game of Thrones' Season 8, which would also mark the grand finale season of the series. via GIPHY The fandom for the show is unmatched which makes this legend a greater one from every aspect. Other than 'Game of Thrones', many potential stories are brewing and will hit the small screen this year. Here is a look at all the HBO shows which must be on your list, maybe just to get over with the GOT hangover: 1. Big Little Lies - Season 2 Based on a story by best-selling author Liane Moriarty, the first season of 'Big Little Lies' was a prudently plotted tale of murder and yummy mummies topped with a masterly twist on soapy American Drama. The show will be back with Season 2 and unearth the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and vicious ferocity of sound parenting. via GIPHY The main characters Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman) and Jane Chapman (Shailene Woodley), Bonnie Carlson (Zoe Kravitz) and Renata Klein (Laura Dern), are all set to reprise their roles with Meryl Streep joining the cast as Celeste's Mother-in-Law. via GIPHY Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are back as Executive Producers with David E. Kelley tackling the script. We wait to watch if 'Big Little Lies' sequel continues to explore the dark waters without popping the soapy bubbles. 2. True Detective - Season 3 The long-anticipated third season of the police drama debuts in January 2019. The show portrays the story of Detective Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali) who worked on the case 35 years back. Wayne and his partner Roland West (Stephen Dorff) investigate the disappearance of two kids. via GIPHY The Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali leads a stripped-down cast of characters, with similar partner dynamics to Season 1, through a Southern setting and a time hopping mystery. Directed by Nic Pizzolatto, the third season looks far more interesting and we are already expecting a good number of twists this time. 3. Watchmen Damon Lindelof (the showrunner of HBO's 'Watchmen') believes that the series will be influenced by contemporary politics and would resonate much with the film version. This plot will introduce newer characters and an almost similar storyline. Based on the comic book by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the American drama series may echo the lives of Trump or Putin. © Warner Bros The Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons portrays an older version of Adrian Veidt along with Emmy-Winner Jean Smart as FBI agent investigating the murder. Nearly a decade after the controversial film adaptation, this is one HBO show which is slated to open to an anticipated audience. 4. Euphoria 'Euphoria' is a teen drama starring actor-singer Zendaya. The series is written by Sam Levinson, with Drake and Future The Prince joining as the Executive Producers. Based on the Israeli series of the same name created by Ron Leshem, Euphoria follows a group of high school students as they navigate through drugs, ***, social media, depression, love and identity crisis. © HBO Directed by Augustine Frizzell, the ensemble cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, Storm Reid, Eric Dane, and Algee Smith to name a few. 5. Veep - Season 7 The Primetime Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Comedy Series, 'Veep' will premiere in Spring 2019. Though, ostensibly an American version of the 'Thick of It', creator Armando Iannucci allowed a fresher look at the machinations of politics across the pond. via GIPHY This Political satire comedy series stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus who deftly essays the role of Selena Meyer, the Vice President of the United States (or "Veep") leading her to win five consecutive Golden Globe nominations and six consecutive Emmy awards. via GIPHY Also starring Anna Chlumsky (Chief of Staff) and Gary (Tony Hale), the series went on hiatus in 2017 after Julia was diagnosed with breast cancer, the series is making a comeback with its last chapter. Relish each episode as this is the final season of the HBO Comedy. 6. Barry - Season 2 Created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, this series seamlessly amalgamates crime drama about contract killing, hits, and mobsters with a comedy about a lonely, lost guy who accidentally ends up on stage and happens to like it. Bill Hader stars as the title character, a hitman in the Midwest who moved to Los Angeles to indulge his acting aspirations. via GIPHY However, the best part of the show is Henry Winkler essaying the role of Bill's acting teacher who won his first-ever Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in Comedy Series. via GIPHY The first season won critical acclaim and strong ratings but left an unanswered question for the viewers, what happened to Detective Moss? The second season is back to explore that cliffhanger while the assassin-turned-actor protagonist keeps trying to put his bleak past behind him. 7. Chernobyl Produced by Sister Pictures and The Mighty Mint, 'Chernobyl' is the first HBO/Sky project to be greenlit through an international partnership to build a big-scale drama. This project was adopted under a $250 million multi-year co-production investment deal. via GIPHY Directed by Johan Renck, this series retells one of the world's worst manmade catastrophes, the explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant in Ukraine in 1986. via GIPHY Stellan Skarsgard plays Boris Shcherbina, the Soviet official charged with handling the fallout, Emily Watson is a nuclear scientist who wants to unveil the reason behind the explosion and Jared Harris plays Valery Legasov, the Soviet's man on the ground after the crisis. The series will outline how people tried to deal with the immediate aftermath and how it was planned to cover up. 8. Succession - Season 2 Jesse Armstrong's comedy-drama, 'Succession' Season 1 was undoubtedly a must watch series last year. Set in New York, the dysfunctional drama follows the dynasty's disintegration and is based on the lives of international media icons like Rupert Murdoch, Robert Maxwell and William Randolph Hearst. via GIPHY Brian Cox plays family patriarch Logan Roy, a broadcast magnate. In his quest to hand over his business to his first born Kendall (played by Jeremy Strong), it turns out that his son accidentally kills a waiter. Logan agrees to take care of the situation if Kendall quits his aggressive takeover plans. The second season is slated to pick up the aftermath of the first's finale and viewers can continue to enjoy the high family's antics on HBO. 9. Catherine The Great The first look at Oscar-winner Helen Mirren's historical limited series, 'Catherine the Great,' is promising. 'Catherine the Great' commanded supreme power throughout Russia for almost half of the 18th century and her reign was laced with political upheaval. The series displays her politically tumultuous rule coupled with her sexually charged court. © HBO Her passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (Jason Clarke) comes into the frame too. Amid scandal, intrigue and immense conflict, they develop a devoted relationship, overcoming their adversaries and together serving as the architects of modern-day Russia. The drama has been written by Nigel Williams and directed by Philip Martin whose body of work includes 'Prime Suspect' and 'The Crown'. This is the latest project in the partnership between HBO and Sky. 10. Divorce - Season 3 Sarah Jessica Parker can easily take the credit of gifting HBO '*** and the City', which has remained one of the most popular shows ever. Years later she is set to bring the fans a treat as Frances, a woman in New York with a squabbling marriage. via GIPHY HBO has given a nod to 6-episode Season 3 of 'Divorce' and Sharon Horgan renders heartfelt touch to the drama. The plot develops when France's good friend Diane (Molly Shanon) fights with her husband Nick (Tracy Letts) at her 50th birthday party making Frances realize that she cannot allow her own marriage to turn this horrific. via GIPHY Both Horgan and Parker are intent on exploring the pain of a failed marriage. 'Divorce' is painfully accurate with the profound message that hope must be omnipresent, at least on the telly.
  12. Rick and his motley bunch might be the most famous bunch of zombie-wranglers to ever get a prime-time spot. But excellent as 'The Walking Dead' is, it's not the only awesome zombie show around. So if you've already binged on 'The Walking Dead' and need more to satisfy those cravings for 'braaains', check out any of these: 1. Z Nation The zombie apocalypse is in full swing and it's not just the undead you need to worry about, but also the rather-more unscrupulous living. But no, don't for a minute assume Z Nation's some sort of low-budget attempt at riding 'The Walking Dead' wave. This is a bonafide cracker in its own right. Over-the-top action, zany humour, and nail-biting suspense, it all comes together in a gleefully bloodthirsty romp as our heroes make a last-ditch attempt to discover a cure. Zombie strippers? A giant zombie cheese wheel bulldozing everything in its part? A zombie baby? Zombies getting stoned? You'll find it all here. Best of all, this SyFy show doesn't shy away from getting rid of fan fav characters. 2. Santa Clarita Diet Say hello to Sheila Hammond (the effervescent Drew Barrymore). She and her husband Joel (played by the master of facial expressions, Timothy Olyphant) are regular folks from the suburbs. Regular folks with a regular life. Staying outta trouble, raising a kid, and in general, just being a regular family. But things are about to change when Shiela upchucks enough vomit (and what looks like an organ) to cheer up your average, gross 10-year-old on the night before a math exam. You guessed it - sweet and quiet Sheila Hammond is now a zombie, with some unfortunately timed craving for living flesh. Join the Hammonds as they try figuring out what happened, and also deal with a wave of adversaries - everything from nosy neighbours and mad scientists to talking heads and corrupt cops. See, who said the suburbs were boring? 3. iZombie Parties are fun. Unless you're at the wrong one, like Olivia Moore, and get scratched by a zombie who's tripping on something downright evil. Luckily, she's a doctor. Which means she can get a job as a Medical Examiner and can chomp on the dead instead of wandering the streets looking for brains like other, less privileged zombies. Now, while it's no fun being a zombie (you don't enjoy 'normal' food, relationships can be hard, and you need to keep it all under wraps for fear of vigilantes), there's an unintended side benefit: Liv can 'see' the last moments of those she eats. Which means even Sherlock Holmes can't hold a candle to her in solving crimes. She's also got her own crime-fighting posse: colleague Dr Ravi Chakrabarti, and homicide detective Clive Babineaux. Together, they solve crimes and at the same time, go up against drug (and brains) dealer Blaine who's usually up to nothing good. 4. Helix A team of scientists find themselves investigating a mysterious disease at an Arctic research station. But the chaps who run the station would rather bury the problem than let the outside world discover they've created, what are in effect, zombies with the speed and bloodthirstiness to make it tough going even for seasoned commandos. Nothing seems to work, and there seem to be loads of secrets floating around. Watch Helix for its fantastic aura of foreboding and doom. The icy wastes of the Arctic and the blue-tinged atmosphere of the research station make this seem almost like a new outing of the Resident Evil franchise. And we mean that in a good way! 5. Ash vs Evil Dead Once upon a time, there was a horror movie called The Evil Dead. It grew up (or rather, spawned sequels), and by the third film in the franchise, it was an all-out comedy (Army of Darkness). Never heard of it? Turn in your horror fan card. Ash (Bruce Campbell) from the movie returns in this TV show set 30 years after the happenings in the film. Unfortunately, it wasn't all happily ever after for our hero, who still works a dead-end job and lives in a crappy trailer. But evil won't sit still and it's up to our very politically-incorrect, chauvinistic warrior-hero (assisted by some new friends) to ward off never-ending legions of 'Deadites' (think of them as demons that inhabit corpses). Yes, it's not a zombie TV show in the strictest sense of the term - the Deadites are far more conniving and dangerous than a half-eaten zombie shuffling along - but it's fun (and very, very gory).

When most of us were busy working in office or travelling to work, the interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal was deciding most of our finanicial fates, in the Union Budget 2019 that was presented today. While people were waiting with bated breath to see what's going to happen, there was something that none of us saw coming - announcement of tax breaks. People's happiness knew no bounds after Piyush Goyal announced full tax rebate for those whose annual income is up to Rs 5 lakh. Reuters Further, people earning up to Rs 6.5 lakh may also be relieved from the tax burden if they can show investments of Rs 1.5 lakh. Looks like Mr. Goyal's briefcase was actually a Pandora's Box that unlocked the ultimate happiness for the middle class public. After the budget was announced, people started having 'Lagaan' feels. Just like Aamir Khan and co. breathed a sigh of relief after they won the match and did not have to pay "Dugna Lagaan", people on Twitter too lost their calm after the tax rebate was announced. 14. Akshay and Twinkle are known for their funny and optimistic opinions all over social media and it's fun and encouraging to read through them from time to time. Recently Akshay re-tweeted a small video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where Modi was having an interactive session for students appearing in the board and other entrance examinations, telling them that there's more to life than just exams! © Twitter He was motivating students through an interactive session called Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0. and Akshay Kumar could thoroughly relate to the video and what PM Modi was saying, and he shared it on his Twitter handle. The video was captioned as: "Something I related to... I was never good at academics but with God's grace, my parents' blessings and hard work, I think I managed pretty well. With exams around the corner, I would like to reiterate to students and parents, there is more to life than just exams." Something I related to...I was never good at academics but with God's grace, my parents blessings & hard work, I think I managed pretty well. With exams around the corner, I'd like to reiterate to students & parents, there's more to life than just exams.https://t.co/olZ0Bi1M6q — Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) 30 January 2019 I think this is a great example to set for the younger generation today, who are stressed beyond belief about the pressure that academics puts on them. If they have pertinent role models like politicians and celebrities reiterating the fact that academics and examinations aren't the only things that determine what life really is all about, then the impact is a lot heavier and students may find some relief reading these words from the people they look up to, in stressful times. © Pinterest Akshay too clearly reiterated PM Modi's stance on examinations and how they shouldn't build fear amidst students, and gave an example from his own life, where he wasn't good at academics but that didn't deter his path to achieve what he truly wanted too. I bet the students will find some relief and gratitude upon reading the national award-winning actor's words. © Twitter On the work front, we'd just like to say we love watching Akshay Kumar play a cop (and he has numerous times) and he's coming back as one once again, in Rohit Shetty's 'Sooryavanshi'. While Rohit is still deciding who the leading lady for the film might be, we already know Akshay is playing the lead of the ATS (anti-terrorist squad), in this drama-packed action feature. The shoot will start around April for this one after he's wrapped up two other projects- 'Good News' and 'Mission Mangal'. © Twitter Earlier, there was a row of rumours claiming Shetty's 'Sooryavanshi' is a remake of the Tamil movie 'Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru' and that he's bought the rights to the film too, but the 'Simmba' director dismissed these rumours and said that 'Sooryavanshi' is an original film. Well, that's to be seen in time, we suppose. For now let's just take some motivation from what Akshay has re-tweeted, in the wake of examinations looming upon millions of students.
  15. POCO F1 was launched last year and has been in the news quite a lot, thanks to its pricing and offered features. It is still the cheapest phone to house a Snapdragon 845 processor, along with minor additions like liquid cooling. Xiaomi's POCO initially pushed the F1 as a performance phone, built for those who want speed. Slowly, the brand improved the camera output via multiple software updates and even gave out many new features in the POCO launcher. This made the phone have a good balance of features over time. © YouTube DxOMark is regarded as a formidable benchmark to test camera performance. They tested the POCO F1's rear cameras in terms of quality, and the device performed at the same outstanding level as the iPhone 8. The POCO F1 got a score of 91, at par with the iPhone 8 and very close to the Note 8. Taking a look at the results of the tests, DxOMark praised the device for fast and accurate autofocus while shooting both photos and videos. The camera also recorded “pleasant” and “vivid” colours in photos and videos “in all lighting conditions”. The POCO F1 shines in capturing stills with its fast autofocus, eye-pleasing colours and accurate white balance. © DxOMark The phone scores 90 points in the video department which is the same score that's awarded to the iPhone 8. Thanks to Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), the POCO F1 is able to reduce focus time significantly. We must keep in mind that the iPhone 8 costs two times more than the POCO F1. The POCO F1 sports a dual rear camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor along with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor for depth sensing. The iPhone 8 has a single 12-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilization. © Reuters This isn't the first time POCO's camera has been appreciated. In a blind camera test last year, it scored the second position, beating even the likes of iPhone XS and Google Pixel 3. Considering the price, the POCO F1 is turning out to be a no-nonsense package that can deliver on performance, as well as above average camera. We're already hearing rumours about the POCO F2, and hope it'll continue forward the same legacy. Source: DxOMark
  16. One of the most asked questions on any men's grooming forum is 'what is the best way to get rid of dandruff?', and rightfully so. Most men suffer from dandruff, and it's one of the most annoying problems to have. Plus, even though it's just dry skin on your scalp, it counts as an 'embarrassing issue', somehow. What most people don't know is that dandruff and an itchy scalp can be dealt with easily, using natural ingredients from your kitchen that won't damage your hair. While anti-dandruff shampoos help, the best remedy for dandruff for the long run involves using natural ingredients. Here are the best home remedies for dandruff, which you can get right inside your kitchen: 1. Lemon & Coconut Oil (c) YouTube While lemon gets rid of dandruff, coconut oil nourishes your scalp and hair gently. Warm some coconut oil, and mix it with an equal volume of lemon juice. Massage your scalp with it, and wash off with a mild shampoo after half an hour. 2. Curd (c) Stack Exchange It might sound weird and outright messy, but curd is amazing for dandruff treatment. Apply curd all over your scalp, and wait for about 45 minutes. Rinse with a gentle shampoo for smooth, dandruff free hair. 3. Fenugreek/Methi (c) Ayurveda Next Door 'Methi ke paranthe' are not the only amazing thing Fenugreek is capable of. Soak some Methi seeds overnight, and mash them to make a paste after draining excess water. Apply it, wait for about half an hour, and wash it off with a gentle shampoo. 4. Neem Leaves (c) Specialty Produce Neem is the best antibacterial ever. Make a thick paste by grinding wet neem leaves in a grinder, and apply the paste on your scalp. Wait for about half an hour, and rinse off. You can use a mild shampoo.
  17. Everyone loves Stranger Things and Black Mirror, but you'd be doing your inner geek a great disservice by ignoring the oh-so-many more fantastic sci-fi shows out there. Which is why we've come up with a list of series that should make you as happy as a mad scientist who's cracked the secret of time travel: 1. 12 Monkeys Move over Hollywood, TV's doing it better. That's the lesson you draw from '12 Monkeys'. Sure, the 1995 movie (directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt) was a fun watch, but this show really takes time travel adventure to the next level. via GIPHY An incredibly detailed plotline, a lot of old-fashioned action, characters you grow fond of, and even dollops of zany humour (We bet Emily Hampshire's Jennifer Goines will become one of your fav characters in just a few episodes) make '12 Monkeys' one of our fave shows. 2. Altered Carbon It's the 24th century and technology has evolved to the point we can now store human consciousness in a small disk, making us pretty much immortal. But that doesn't mean humans will stop being human - yup, people still get murdered. How do you deal with that? via GIPHY Well, if you're rich beyond imagination, you wake up in your new body, and then you hire a former rebel to track down your killer on the gritty streets of future LA. Sounds a bit like 'Blade Runner'? The debt it owes to that seminal flick is obvious. But that doesn't make it any less deserving of praise - it's a great blend of cyberpunk futurism and old-school film noir. 3. The Expanse You know a TV show's got something going for it when Jeff Bezos announces Prime Video will be picking it up. That's what happened when 'The Expanse' was cancelled. Fans screamed out in anguish, but Bezos swooped in to the rescue. And no, he wasn't playing the indulgent billionaire - if anyone knows what's a good deal, it's the chap who owns freakin' Amazon. via GIPHY 'The Expanse's' astonishingly accurate science will make physics nuts swoon, the space scenes are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and the intrigue and tension can make an Oscar-winning drama look tame. Utterly brilliant storytelling and filmmaking, that's what 'The Expanse' is. 4. Travelers In the future, the planet is dying, and humanity's not really having a great time. But our descendants have figured out the secret of time travel. No, they don't use their newfound tech to go make a killing on the stock market. Instead, they do the wise thing and send in teams of 'Travelers' back to our present. via GIPHY Travelers who hide amongst us by only occupying the bodies of people when they're about to die - they're from the future, after all, so they know that stuff (duh). And what's their task? To subtly nudge humanity away from a path to self-destruction. But all's not what it seems - there are factions trying to stop this, and even fellow Travelers with an axe to grind. 5. Westworld Science Fiction meets cowboys in this highly addictive HBO show. Set in the future, 'Westworld' is the tale of an amusement park where the rich can go live out their fantasies of being back in the Wild West. via GIPHY But things take a darker turn when the androids that work there begin to show signs of sentience. It's smart, it's fun, and it's got enough emotional depth for even those who don't like most sci-fi shows. We can't recommend this enough! 6. Misfits From 'ol Blighty comes this new-age tale of superheroes. A bunch of teenage delinquents, stuck doing community service for various anti-social deeds (teenagers, we tell ya!) find themselves granted mysterious and hard-to-control superpowers. via GIPHY But these aren't one-dimensional superheroes of yore - they're just kids stuck in a strange situation and they need to save themselves before anything else. 7. The Man in the High Castle Based on a book by the legendary Philip K Dick (Blade Runner, anyone?), 'The Man in the High Castle' is a riveting romp through an alternate world - one where the Axis powers won World War II. It's set in the sixties, but one without hippies, the Rolling Stones, or the Mustang. via GIPHY Instead, the United States has been divvied up between the Germans and Japanese, and to say they rule with an iron fist would be an understatement. But there's hope: A band of rebels is fighting against the occupying forces as well as they can (and not faring too well), and there are signs reality may not be as fixed and predetermined as we all fear. 8. Firefly Older readers amongst us will be intimately familiar with this rollicking space western. To the younger reader, we can only describe it as 'Star Wars' for the TV era. via GIPHY Joss Whedon's 'Firefly' only lasted one season, and that was a decade-and-a-half ago, but it's just so much fun, you need to go watch it. And when the credits of the final episode start rolling, take a second before you start cursing the exec who cancelled 'Firefly', and thank your stars that Whedon also made a movie ('Serenity') that acts like a sequel (or second season).
  18. If we go down the whole inclusive narrative (which is the correct thing to do tbh), all smiles are beautiful. However, anyone who denies that they have not desired pearl-white teeth at some point or the other in their life, they're simply lying. White teeth are attractive not only because of their aesthetic appeal, they are also an indicator of good dental hygiene, which is in fact a desirable thing. Keeping that in mind, we have listed out 5 super effective home remedies that will help one get visibly whiter teeth in less than a month's time. 1. Oil Pulling © Shine365 Oil pulling is done by taking a teaspoonful of oil in your mouth, swishing it around for 15-20 minutes, and then spitting it out. It's an ancient technique that detoxifies your body, starting with the mouth. 2. Drinking less tea/coffee and quitting smoking © Yournewswire Quitting smoking will considerably decrease nicotine staining. Excessive consumption of coffee, tea, and strong dark sodas also stain your teeth, the effects of which can be long term. Everyone should make a conscious attempt to avoid these food items. 3. Brushing with baking soda © Orawellness Baking soda has natural whitening properties, and is a natural abrasive. Plus, it helps in creating an alkaline environment in your mouth, thereby restricting bacterial growth. All of these result in whiter teeth. 4. Eating fruits like apple, papaya, and pineapple © Health and Mind Care Enzymes found in these fruits will naturally help whiten your teeth, on regular consumption. 5. Brushing and flossing © Markham Dental Centre This one seems basic, but it's the most important step. Teeth staining happen mainly because of food stuck in your mouth for a long time. Brush properly (with vertical movement for your front teeth in a way that cleans the crevices) twice and day, and never go to bed without brushing post dinner. Flossing once a day will make sure food is not stuck in between your teeth, and will also take care of excess plaque.
  19. In case you didn't know, the trailer for the movie 'Luka Chuppi' dropped yesterday and it was pretty well recieved. It looks like the perfect millennial love story and we all know how perfect Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon are for that. The trailer is obviously hilarious and the funny dialogues and scenes were perfect to turn into memes; so, of course that's what happened. People mainly focused on two dialogues - “Bhaisahab yeh kya kar rahe ho?” and “Sharam na aaiya tujhe yeh sab karne se pehle?” - which were hilarious on their own in the trailer but became even better when people started giving their own context. 20. The much-awaited teaser of Salman Khan's 'Bharat' is out and looks like the Eid of 2019 is going to be a great one for both Salman and his fans. The teaser begins with an overcrowded train entering a railway station in Pakistan, hinting at the time of Partition of India. Then enters the 'Dabangg' Khan aka Salman and takes over the 1 minute 30 seconds video as Bharat, a man who is beyond caste, creed, religion and surname. In fact, in the voiceover, Salman Khan says that his father named him Bharat, after his country. © Salman Khan Films In the teaser, Salman appears to have multiple professions and adventures. He first appears as a badass motorcyclist who jumps through a ring of fire like it's nobody's damn business. He is then shown as a Navy officer and then an ageing boxer. Honestly, this 1 minute 30 seconds video looks better than the 2 hours 40 minutes called 'Race 3'. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, 'Bharat' also stars Katrina Kaif, Jackie Shroff, Sonali Kulkarni, Disha Patani and Nora Fatehi. For those who don't know, 'Bharat' is a remake of a 2014 Korean movie called 'An Ode To My Father'. 'Bharat' is expected to release in June during Eid.
  21. They say a true man is shaped not only by his success, or his wealth but also by the goodness that's in his heart. It's not determined by his possessions but only if he shares them with the world for the betterment of mankind. Hollywood, for one, is blessed with philanthropists who have gone the extra mile to give back to the society to be remembered for their goodness. Here are five Hollywood icons who continue their efforts of making the world a better place, one good thing at a time: George Clooney George Clooney is well known for his engagement to stop the human rights atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan. Clooney founded the Not On Our Watch with his 'Ocean's 11' co-stars Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt, and producer Jerry Weintraub, which works to uplift the suffering populations of Sudan. His charity has donated millions of dollars to help those suffering in the region. Clooney was named the United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2008, to help raise public awareness, and support for the U.N's peacekeeping efforts around the world. Hugh Jackman The Wolverine star started The Laughing Man Foundation, which through its chain of coffee shops, supports coffee farming communities across the world by investing in programs that focus on health, growth, and success for coffee farmers and their families. Started after a promise made by the star to his friend, an Ethiopian coffee farmer, Dukale and his family, the Foundation works for supporting the production of sustainable coffee and communities associated with it. Leonardo DiCaprio Since 1998 The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has been working to protect threatened ecosystems with a focus on Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation and Climate Change. With over 50 million followers, the star's impactful work was recognized when he was designated as the United Nations Messenger of Peace for Climate Change and received the 2014 Clinton Global Citizen Award. Following the notion of great deeds, here's a striking video by Seagram's 100 Pipers Music CDs, that reminds us that the greatest legacy one can leave behind, is an act of goodness – an act that makes the world a better place. Matt Damon Actor-producer-screenwriter, Matt Damon started H2O Africa in an attempt to mitigate the water crisis in Africa and gather support for clean water programs in critical areas. His organization merged later with Water.org that focuses on providing clean water to underprivileged across the world. He is also an ambassador for ONEXONE, a non-profit foundation committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children. Will Smith The MIB star with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, founded the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation to benefit inner-city community development, youth educational projects and underprivileged children and their families. He has also supported several charitable organizations that work in South Africa. Heartwarming, isn't it?
  22. Video game revenue has been on the rise for the past few years and it reached a new peak of $43.8 billion. That's 18% up from previous year and has surpassed the projected total global box office number for movies. The numbers were released by the reliable NDP group and Entertainment Software Association. In fact, we predicted this over two years ago as games like GTA V, Fortnite, Fifa 19, PUBG and others are literally taking over the world. The increase in Video Games revenue could be attributed to a variety of factors. Free-to-play games such as Fortnite, PUBG Mobile and even AAA games have implemented micro-transactions in their games that may have resulted in an 18% revenue increase. In fact, Fortnite made almost $3 billion in profit last year. The same could be said about PUBG as the game also managed to rake in a $1 billion in revenue in 2018. Last year, it was projected that global box office revenue from around the world would hit $41.7 billion, according to comScore data. In fact, Video game revenues also surpass streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime where it is estimated to rake in $28.8 billion. Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix said in a shareholder letter “We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO,” the company's shareholder letter stated. “When YouTube went down globally for a few minutes in October, our viewing and signups spiked for that time…There are thousands of competitors in this highly fragmented market vying to entertain consumers and low barriers to entry for those with great experiences.” According to te NPD group analyst Mat Piscatella, revenue in video games comes from a variety of sources i.e. hardware sales, micro-transactions, digital and physical game sales and mobile gaming. With keeping trends in mind, the video game revenue will steadily increase in 2019 and 2020 thanks to new consoles launching soon and blockbuster games like Anthem, The Division 2, and Death Stranding are on the horizon. 23. A movie trailer comes out, people on Twitter make memes on it - you know the drill. There is absolutely nothing that can escape from getting memed and when it comes to a movie like 'Total Dhamaal', you know it's begging to become the next big meme. So, of course, like always, Twitter did not disappoint, not that we ever doubted that. The trailer came out yesterday and it's still the top trending video on YouTube. Guess people really love these movies. But, it was trending on Twitter for another reason as well. As soon as the trailer was out, so were the hilarious reactions on it. The movie has possibly one of the biggest ensemble cast in recent times that includes Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever and the original cast including Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Riteish Deshmukh. While the huge star cast was enough to create excitement, it also gave room to a lot of people to make memes on and everyone took advantage of that. 24. Famous for its beautiful mountainous landscapes and holy shrines, the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) has truly lived up to its tag of 'paradise on earth'. If the natural beauty enticed the visitors, the artistry of local artisans further allowed the J&K handicrafts industry to make a name across the globe for their exquisite designs and craftsmanship. But, the Indian state that was once labelled as the 'Valley Of Paradise' has undeniably become the 'Valley Of Death'. Today, this strife-torn state is only famous for the bleak stories of violence, lethal attacks, militant insurgency and never-ending protests. The education system has degraded to the extent of almost being non-existent. The infrastructure is still a work in progress. The supplies are limited. And, to top it all, the presence of Indian military forces has led to restricted movements of the locals in their very own state. While the situation is not yet ideal in the region, the youth in J&K have found solace in sports in a bid to escape all that has affected them and their families over the years. We've seen the likes of Parvez Rasool making a name for himself in cricket, and, more recently, the spirited Real Kashmir football team proving their mettle in the ever-competitive I-League. Now, the beautiful state of J&K has given India another sporting gem in the form of Saqlain Tariq. © Pro Volleyball League Born in Poonch - one of the most remote districts of J&K, bounded by Line of Control (LoC) on three sides, Tariq has spent a major part of his life hiding from insurgency and consistent shelling which often resulted in the loss of life and property. Evacuating his house, taking shelter in makeshift places and haunted by the fact that any moment could be his last; Saqlain faced it all. While the youngsters of his age would ideally find themselves cribbing over gadgets and other material gains, Saqlain was just happy to be alive. In a place where breathing was no less than a luxury, Saqlain knew that there wasn't much he could do. His education took a toll, getting a job was always going to be difficult and the future looked bleak. But, just when all hope seemed lost, the 21-year-old found a ray of hope in volleyball - a sport that gave him an identity and made him feel that he mattered. Picking up the sport at the age of six, Saqlain's journey in volleyball was greatly influenced by his family's support and enthusiasm for the game. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my family. They've supported me in the thick and thin of life. All my achievements in volleyball is an outcome of their beliefs in me," emotions get the better of Saqlain as he credits his family. "Since I could remember, my father was running a local volleyball club in Poonch. He used to take me to the practice sessions when I was a kid. Over the years, I developed a liking towards the sport. But then, there were some problems. It wasn't that easy," the 21-year-old reveals before getting comfortable in the couch. © Pro Volleyball League Saqlain's mother, just like our own, was overwhelmed by the fear of losing him every time he went out to practice. "She (mother) was really concerned about my well-being. Given our state of affairs, she was probably right in her own domain to fear for my life. After all, she had lost her loved ones and seen too much in her life. But, this is where my dad stood out and ensured nothing was going to affect my growth as a volleyball player," he adds further. Honing his skills and improving his game at his father's facility, Saqlain's talent was just too hard to go unnoticed. And, this when his father Mohammad Tariq Khan, a state-level volleyball player himself, took a call that would eventually change the life of his son. "My father couldn't make the cut for the national team. And, he knew, if I stayed here (J&K), my fate will be the same. I would have faced survival issues and, maybe, I would have become a stone pelter. So, against the liking of my mother and other family members, he sent me to Khanna (near Ludhiana) for studies," Saqlain recalls with a smile on his face. But, for a youngster who shares a close bond with his parents and never left his home earlier, staying away from family wasn't easy for Saqlain. "I was there (in Khanna) for a few months before the homesickness crept in. For the first time in my life, I was on my own, dealing with day-to-day problems by myself. It took a toll on me. And, as a result, I told my father that I want to return home," the 6-feet-3-inches tall player reveals. "My father spoke to the warden to grant me a few days leave and I returned home. I was happy that I was finally going to see my family and all. But, my father wasn't happy with my decision. When I reached home, my father didn't speak me to me once. And, after a day or so, I realised why. Realising the sacrifices of my parents and the dreams they had for me, I was left with no option, but to return to Khanna. And, the moment I told my father about my decision, he was elated," Saqlain talks about the learning curve that went on to play a pivotal role in his journey as a volleyball player. © Pro Volleyball League Since that day, there was no turning back for this youngster. He played his first nationals for J&K when he was in the eighth standard and rose through the ranks on the back of an improved showing in the domestic circuit. Soon, he found his way into the national team. Named as the captain of the Indian team, Saqlain had his international outing at the Asian Championship in Sri Lanka in 2014 when he was just 17. Thriving in the position of a setter, Saqlain also went on to represent India at the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Games where he played a crucial role in his side's bronze-medal finish last year. "When I went abroad to participate in the international tournaments, I was kind of shocked to see the level of competition there. Countries like China, Japan and South Korea have dominated the sport in Asia. But, the fact that Iran surprised everyone with a gold medal in men's volleyball at the 2018 Asiad shows that it's all about improving. It was something that we (Indian players) can learn from. That's why I always cherish international exposure," Saqlain makes a valid point. On the back of hard work and perseverance, Saqlain, then, managed to convince U Mumba Volley to shell out a whopping Rs 1.1 lakh for his services in the upcoming edition of the Pro Volleyball League (PVL). An initiative of Baseline Ventures and Volleyball Federation Of India, the first edition of the PVL is set to begin on 2nd February with Kochi Blue Spikers taking on U Mumba Volley in the first match. The league will see six teams fighting for the title which will be lifted by the winner on 22nd February in the final in Chennai. "I have waited for a long time to get an opportunity like the Pro Volleyball League. I want to thank the Volleyball Federation of India to bring such a league to the fore. It is going to be very beneficial for players like me. Since it also involves foreign players, the league will help us in improving our game by learning new things from them. It's a great platform for the Indian players to prove their mettle and popularise the game in the country," Saqlain lauds the advent of Pro Volleyball League. © Pro Volleyball League As a 21-year-old, Saqlain's love for Punjabi songs and, more particularly, for Bohemia might make him just another youngster, but when asked about his message for the youth in the Valley, Saqlain answered with maturity. "Sports are the need of the hour for the Kashmiri youth. I have so many youngsters calling me up and seeking guidance. And, I always encourage them to brave all odds and maintain their self-belief. Our state has so much talent across sports, but the lack of facilities and training centres hasn't helped their cause. I would really urge the concerned authorities to take notice of the talent from the Valley and nurture them with a prospect of making the country proud," Saqlain signs off. Coming from a region where people have a hard time focussing on their lives, Saqlain didn't just survive, but he concentrated on the very thing that acted as an escape route from all the hardships - his love for volleyball. From living in fear to becoming the first spiker from his state to represent India in any age group, Saqlain, at a tender age, has become a beacon of hope and is the perfect embodiment of success derived against all odds, on the back of persistent hard work.
  25. There's always been a battle between gamers who play on different consoles and LG took it to the next level to find out who was better. LG teamed up with Activision (The company behind Call of Duty franchise) to find out which gamers are the best. © Pexels The study used LG's Elite Reaction Test where participants were asked to click on targets as quickly as they could, in order to determine the best accuracy. The test had over 1,400 participants and was tested on every platform i.e. PS4, Xbox One and PC. LG says that their study found Xbox players to be “better” at video games as compared to people who favoured PC and PS4. The study further revealed that PC gamers came dead last which sounds kind of surprising. It also said that on average, Xbox players would hit 78 per cent of the targets while PS4 players managed 74 per cent. PC players, on the other hand, were only able to hit 70 per cent of the targets. Even though PC players weren't able to hit more targets than console players, they did have a faster reaction. In the test, several red targets were displayed on a screen and were given 20 seconds to click as many as possible to green as they appeared. © MensXP This activity by LG seemed more like a marketing gimmick than a proper test. First of all, players had to confirm their platform preference which sounds a little dodgy as anyone could have lied on the form. There's also a chance that the participants were not evenly split across platforms that could affect the final outcome. Finally, LG did not use a game to test reactions times or accuracy and instead chose a questionable “Red-target” test. © Pexles What LG seems to forget is that there's a lot more to gaming than just being accurate. In order to be the “best” gamers, you not only need quick reactions but need to have some form of skill as well. Not to mention, PC gamers are also used to playing on higher frame rates than console players, which may not have been factored into the test either. Overall, this entire test smells a little fishy. If you want to find out what your reaction time is, you can do this test for yourself here.
