  1. In case you have not watched today's finale, then here's a spoiler warning for you. For everyone who had watched and reacted and commented and lamented , you are not alone! Today's episode has left most fans with a cocktail of thoughts and before anything else, can I please take a moment of how brilliantly Bran orchestrated it all? Like Ekta Kapoor needs to sign him up for her next show. Bran can see anything right? So he knew the Iron Fleet was in Dragonstone and could kill Rheagal? He told Sansa Jon's heritage knowing it would turn Dany nuts. He knew Dany would go mad and wipe out King's Landing. Bran orchestrated a terrorist attack to take power in a crisis. — AlternateHistoryHub (@AltHistoryHub) May 20, 2019 When you don't contribute the group project and still get an A #GameofThronesFinale #GameofThrones #GOT #GOTFinale #DemThrones #TheFinalEpisode pic.twitter.com/tZDmThF5gn — Game of Thrones Memes (@IronThroneMemes) May 20, 2019 Bran watching Dany burn innocent people in King's Landing but knowing his time has arrived pic.twitter.com/YwXKl89UfG — Steadman™ (@AsteadWesley) May 20, 2019 Now with Bran out of our system, Dany's fall was sure a shocker for a second with how swiftly it ended for her at the hands of her lover. The way Drogon cried after he saw Daenerys was dead... you could hear his pain and heartbreak. His mother was dead. One of the hardest scenes I've ever had to watch the whole series. #GameOfThonesFinale #GOTFinale pic.twitter.com/Gy3WFNxSjH — felipe (@espinosasguey) May 20, 2019 Also, if you think about this, you've got to give it to Drogon. With GOT down the road, what next for us? There's still time for a show to take over, until then let's drink to some disappointment and a flaming thought of how Bran was the real player of this game.
  2. While it is the general belief that being a celebrity who enjoys considerable fame, means you eat, breathe, roll around and even poop cash, the same might not be true at all times. People's celebrity status often makes them seem almost 'invincible', but what we tend to forget most often is that at the end of the day, even our most favourite and top celebrity is human, and that means they are not above the diktats of fate. The wheels of fortune can turn for anyone, no matter how successful and famous you are at any given time, and these five popular Bollywood celebrities are proof that when it comes to money, you can never be too confident. One wrong investment, one callous move and your entire bank balance can go for a complete toss. These 5 Bollywood actors lived to tell the tales of their bankruptcy and here is everything you should know. 1. Amitabh Bachchan © Instagram One of Bollywood's all-time biggest stars, Amitabh Bachchan had once shared with the media how he went bankrupt in 2000 with Rs 90 crore as debt. Reportedly, 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' became his only saving grace. He had said, “In the year 2000, when the entire world was celebrating the new century, I was celebrating my disastrous fortune. There were no films, no money, no company, a million legal cases against the company and the tax authorities had put notice of recovery on my home.” 2. Preity Zinta © Instagram Preity too didn't seem to have great luck donning the producer's hat. Reportedly, after her production 'Ishkq in Paris' crashed at the box office, the film's writer-director Abbas Tyrewala filed a case against Preity for non-payment of dues. Apparently, Preity had to put her apartment on rent to clear the dues, and along with a little help from good friend Salman Khan she got out of the soup. 3. Govinda © Instagram Govinda's bad luck with finances came into light when he confessed about being broke at his daughter's film premiere. An emotional Govinda shared how he barely managed to get by for days and struggled to even hire a taxi or rickshaw. 4. Abhay Deol © Instagram Reportedly, Abhay Deol too paid a heavy price (literally) for turning producer. His home production 'One By Two' was a major failure at the box office and made the actor suffer a huge financial loss. Things apparently got so bad that he had to sell his homes to repay all the loans. 5. Shah Rukh Khan © Instagram Megastar and Bollywood 'Badshah' Shah Rukh Khan was also on the verge of going completely broke after his home production 'Ra.One' and its disastrous innings at the box office almost sent him packing. King Khan confessed that the production of the film cost him a fortune and the film's crashing almost crushed his bank balance.
  3. No matter what part of the world we are in, education is always given a ton of importance. In a way, it is projected as the only key to attaining wisdom, that would ultimately allow us to lead a life we are not only proud of, but one that also takes care of all our material needs throughout our lives. (c) Vinod Chopra Films Yet, what most people, especially in our society choose to overlook, is the fact that an education isn't the only “key” to getting there. A sharp mind, crafty skills and an inherent talent can also bring all that, and much more, to a person's life. Recently, during an appearance on 'The Kapil Sharma Show', 'Student of The Year 2' actor Tiger Shroff was asked by host Kapil Sharma what was the difference between a real and reel college, to which Tiger said that he was not aware of the difference since he never attended college, to begin with. He added that immediately after school he joined the sets of his first film 'Heropanti'. (c) Twitter Yet, if we look at Tiger's career graph, we can easily say that not going to college, and not completing his studies hasn't made him any less successful in the line of work, he chose for himself. Why? Because he had other skills, and a passion for his craft to make up for the lack of higher education on his resume. Just like Tiger Shroff, these following 5 actors also never attended college. Read about them here: 1. Aamir Khan (c) Twitter Aamir Khan was only 16-years-old when he acted in a silent film titled 'Paranoia'. His performance fetched him so much appreciation that he decided to ditch the idea of studying further and got into theatre instead. There was no looking back post that, and soon he became a full-time actor. 2. Alia Bhatt (c) Twitter Alia had just graduated from Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai, when she had to start shooting for her debut film with Karan Johar in 2012. Alia has often expressed that she was never into academics and enjoyed extra-curricular more than studying. We suppose acting was her best bet after all. Look at all the performances she 'dhoptoed' the audience with recently! 3. Salman Khan (c) Twitter Bollywood's big brother went to school at St Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai. It is reported that he got himself enrolled in St Xavier's College but never attended because he wished to kick start his film career. Clearly, that was the best decision he made. Right? 4. Deepika Padukone (c) Twitter Deepika went to Sophia High School in Bangalore but could not complete her education because of the constant demands of her modelling career. She did get herself enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from IGNOU, but quit eventually to focus on her modelling career full-time. 5. Arjun Kapoor (c) Twitter Arjun Kapoor's tryst with education hasn't been a very memorable one. Arjun attended Arya Vidya Mandir school in Mumbai, where he studied till 12th grade. However, he failed to clear his class 12th exams, and he quit his studies altogether. These Bollywood A-listers with just their school education to back them, besides truck-loads of talent, prove that success does not restrict itself to people with good degrees on their resumes. It'll come to those who follow their passion, work hard to live their dreams and know how to utilise their skills and talents to make a name for themselves and live life king size.
  4. The idea of motorsports is just a cog in the wheel of India's mass opinion. We consider it a largely elitist hobby that is only affordable for a privileged few, despite being among the world's largest automobile manufacturers. Maybe that's why the country has barely contributed to the global motorsport scene, both in terms of producing world-class race drivers as well as racing technology. Part of the Mahindra & Mahindra automobile conglomerate, Mahindra Racing is out to change the latter, and eventually, influence the former. First things first; Mahindra Racing is the only Indian team (and one of the founder teams) in the Formula E Championship, a quickly growing class of international motorsport that uses only electric cars. It has already garnered a sixth of the total viewership of the Formula 1 around halfway into the fifth season of its existence. A total of 11 teams are contesting for the team championship with two drivers representing each outfit in the 2019 edition. Click here for Formula E rules, points system and more Mahindra Racing had finished on the podium (at third) a couple of seasons ago, followed by a close fourth last year. This season, they were at a healthy third as I arrived in Paris on the eve of the ePrix on Saturday. Jérôme d'Ambrosio of Belgium, who drives the #64 for MR led the driver's standings by one point. “The fundamental line that we use in Formula E is,” Mahindra Racing Team Principle Dilbagh Gill tells me on the sidelines of the race track, “you don't go to the race, the race comes to you.” Dilbagh has had a more than a decade-long journey with Mahindra and comes on the back of a colourful CV with various international projects. He speaks with fervour about being an international pioneer in this field and you might recognise him from passionate mid-race garage visuals. © Mahindra Racing Naysayers were sceptical about the no-sound 'disadvantage' of these cars, the 'slow' speed of the race and the feasibility, he tells me. But Formula E has come a long way with 11 teams in contention this season, with the likes of Porsche and Mercedes said to be joining in from 2020. “It (Formula E) has become a genuine form of racing. It's no longer like Formula 1. This season, the seven races have had seven winners from seven different teams. And you still don't know who will win the eighth one,” he says. “Second part is if you see any traditional forms of motorsport, only males used to watch it. That is also changing, where it is becoming more family oriented. When the father, who is into motorsports and he brings his kid, he is actually having a conversation during the race with him, because they can speak to each other with the loud sounds of the Formula 1.” As a result, the female demographic has warmed up to the idea. “In F1, 80 per cent of the audience is male and 20 per cent is female. Here, it's 52 per cent male and 40 per cent female and 8-10% kids.” The renaissance of EVs in the 21st Century (electric cars held several performance records over internal combustion engine cars but fell behind in performance during the first decade of the 20th century, notable electric-only racing series have shown an upward trend in both cars and bike circuits. Apart from Formula E, there are the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy, the World Rallycross Championship, the World Solar Challenge and the MotoE World Cup. In other racing events, electric vehicles are competing alongside combustion engine vehicles, for example in the Isle of Man TT and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and in some cases winning outright. In January 2017, a pure electric car participated in the Paris-Dakar Rally and completed the entire route of 9000 km through Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia. The vehicle had been specially designed and built for the race. The car had a 250 kW engine (340 hp) and a 150 kWh battery. The battery consisted of several modules. Each module could be charged separately by a power cable to speed up the charging process. The obvious question here is that how does this global electrification impact India? “To a large extent, the user is millennial, says Dilbagh, “They are now delaying the decision to buy the first car. An Uber can pick you up from anywhere at the press of a button, so what's more convenient can be sought. That's why they are delaying those decisions. They are also getting conscious about the mobility coming from the electric and the conversation about sustainability.” With Mahindra Racing, he believes, new electric mobility technology also reaches the end-user quicker. “The transition from race-to-road is much higher and faster. What you see in the car today literally can be in a car within 18 months. While in a conventional model, it takes six years. We say that 2030 (with reference to India's Mission 2030 of going electric-heavy) is far away, but it is just 11 years away and in the next 11 years, Mahindra Racing will have 15 alterations in developing a new car (one race technology every Formula E season).” But where does that take us in terms of motorsport in India? Barring the maiden edition of the Formula 1 that took place in the then-newly inaugurated Buddha International Circuit in Noida, India has stayed away from the global motorsport map. Of course, due credit has to be given to Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok, but the impact has been hot and cold. Racers have not really lined up to participate in competitions like Indian Formula Manipal DJS Racing Indian National Rally Championship JK Tyre National Racing Championship SPCE Racing 4ZE Racing. “We just need a little bit more clarification in terms of regulations in India, because a lot of other drivers in the championship are still fighting the tax problems, they couldn't drive in Formula One. There is no clear directive yet, as to where does motorsport fall in terms of taxation,” says Dilbagh. Mahindra Racing is now aspiring to further its long-term goals by escalating driver education in India. They want to use the data from the race track and find a way to reach out to public transport and truck drivers in the country for better efficiency. Electric is the way forward after all. “There is a huge shift from three peddled and now going two to one peddle drive. While we talk of passenger cars also, if we can take some of this data and put it in commercial vehicle, you can increase the range by 15-20 percent by just using a peddle inside. At the end of the day you get more mileage and money. Mileage to money there is direct correlation.” I came to Paris with very little knowledge about e-racing but by the end of the weekend, there has been so much to take away despite a bittersweet race day for Mahindra Racing (where Jerome crashed and the team was unlucky to not start the race at the pole position). The beauty of Formula E lies in the fact that the eight race of the season saw its eighth winner, from the eighth distinct country. If we can find a way to channel the passion of the drivers, the ambitions of the manufacturers and the will of the powers-to-be, there could still be hope of saving the environment in a manner that is both simple and modern. © Mahindra Racing © Mahindra Racing
  5. You see, it's actually true when they say 'not all heroes wear capes'. Ask someone who has known a superhero in all flesh and blood, someone who came into their life when their every breath was hanging by a thread. Call them whatever you choose - saviour, messiah or guardian angel, but the fact is, they indeed are heroes who have ditched the capes, and bear such courage in their hearts that's only second to a lion's. So yes, not all heroes wear capes. Some wear khaki uniforms, Indian Navy hats and even regular clothes, but they all have one thing in common - all of them would put their own lives on the line to save the people around them. Check out the inspiring stories of these 6 dedicated officers who went beyond the call of duty, and risked their lives to save others: 1. RPF Constable Jagbir Singh Rana © Twitter The RPF constable was most recently in the news for his bravery and ultimate sacrifice that saved five lives at the cost of his own. Constable Rana was patrolling the busy tracks between Adarsh Nagar and Azadpur railway stations when he was killed by a Shatabdi Express while saving a couple and some children from getting hit by trains. He managed to bring the couple arguing on the tracks to safety, but during a second round while trying to save a few kids, he couldn't get off the tracks on time and got hit by a train. Constable Rana died on the spot. 2. Lieutenant Rahul Dalal © Facebook While out on the beach with his wife at the Vypin beach in Kerala, Lieutenant Rahul Dalal noticed a gathering of curious onlookers along the beach. When he got closer he realised that someone was drowning and crying out for help. Strong evening currents didn't help the situation and stopped others from helping the poor guy. Lt. Dalal jumped right in and was almost crushed under the drowning man's frantic attempts to get to safety. However, despite the strong currents and the odds the lieutenant managed to bring the man to safety. 3. Constable Raj Kamal Meena Brave constable Raj Kamal Meena of PS Khyala saved the life of a boy drowning in Bawana Canal. Rajkamal went to Bawana for a raid but when he saw the child drowning, he jumped in the canal to save him. Proud of Ct Rajkamal. @DelhiPolice @LtGovDelhi pic.twitter.com/FDcwJJz4Gc — DCP West Delhi (@DCPWestDelhi) February 4, 2019 Constable Meena who is posted at the Khyala Police Station in New Delhi, was going about his work as usual one day, when he noticed some children playing near the Bawana Canal located in West Delhi. Since it was known for being a dangerous spot where many unfortunate incidents of drowning had taken place, he went to warm them. But by the time he could reach, one of the boys jumped into the calm and began drowning. However, constable Meena's quick thinking and courage saved the boy's life who could have drowned in the deep waters. 4. Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh © Twitter Uttarakhand cop Gagandeep Singh became an internet sensation after he stopped a lynch mob from punishing and taking away a Muslim youth's life, based on foolish trepidations that had provoked a Hindu mob to take the matter in its own hands. Sun-Inspector Gagandeep Singh showed commendable courage when he single-handedly prevented the mob from harming the Muslim youth in a Hindu temple, where he had allegedly gone to meet his Hindu girlfriend. 5. Constable Sudarshan Shinde © Twitter When a dangerous fire broke out at a pub in Mumbai's Kamala Mills compound, constable Shinde had been patrolling in a nearby area. As soon as he heard about the fire, he rushed to the spot. Some people had gotten trapped inside due to the blaze and excessive smoke. However, constable Shinde was able to help some of them who had turned on their mobile torches. However, when he found some unconscious people inside, he ignored his own safety and rescued them by carrying outside on his own shoulders. He managed to save many lives that night when the fire claimed 14 lives. 6. Head Constable Abhishek Patel © Twitter Head constable Abhishek Patel posted in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district became a hero for 400 young school children after he risked his own life to save theirs. It was reported that a bomb was found near a school in Chittora village, and upon finding it Patel picked up the 10kg bomb and ran for a kilometer carrying the bomb on his shoulder. A 12-second video of his sprint had also gone viral on social media.
  6. The moment I said I was going to attend an eSport event in India, a few of my friends burst out in laughter. They simply couldn't resonate with the idea of sitting in a large room staring at a big screen, watching a bunch of players, well, play a game. If you put some thought into it, then you may even start to think that they have a point. Unlike the appeal of the live experience of a traditional sport, where you can actually see professional players perform in front you, in eSports you're just watching a some players sit like statues and become a part of the computer they're playing on. And on top of that, you literally have to watch one of the big screens that are fitted in front of you to see what the players are doing. It's the exact same content you could consume from the comfort of your couch at home on platforms like Twitch. Then why do people pay big bucks to attend something which they can watch for free without breaking a sweat? © Adela Sznajder/ ESL Well, that's exactly what I was itching to find out. So, I attended one of the biggest eSports event in India last week and I am happy to report that I have a lot to share. And, I mean, a LOT! SPOILER ALERT!! If you're a passionate gamer, then let me tell you that's it's worth every penny you spend. But if you're one, then I am guessing you probably already know that, right? Last week, I attended one of the biggest Dota 2 tournaments in the world that's hosted by ESL One. It was the first time I had attended an eSports event ever, and I was filled with mixed emotions. So here I am, pouring my thoughts away to give you an idea of what it's like being a part of an event like this and what goes into putting up such a show. The Arena - Theatrical fanfare! © MensXP/ Karthik Iyer The moment I stepped into the arena, I felt as if I walked into a virtual world. A world, which I had only seen through my computer screen. The stage was lit in red and blue lights, and it was surrounded by big screens, so the entire arena could watch what the players are doing. I entered the arena right before the action, so all I could hear was narratives from commentators coupled with a background sound to build the hype. Together with the lights, commentary, and some base-heavy thumps, the arena felt nothing short of a concert or a pro sporting event like, say, a boxing match. There was some serious energy in there. The arena was also draped with advertising slogans and hoardings of brands like Intel, Vodafone, DHL, and more. And as you can see, there's also a Mercedes standing right smack in the middle, which belongs to the player who's deemed the most valuable throughout the tournament. © MensXP/ Karthik Iyer After I found a comfortable seat to settle, the players of the two teams that were about to battle it out in a do-or-die match were introduced. It was 'compLexity Gaming' vs 'The Pango'. The introduction of the roster, mind you, was an enjoyable sight of its own, with players entering the arena from behind us. I could hear the commentator introducing the players with their game-tags instead of their names. Interesting, indeed! “Welcome Naive-, Iceberg, Ghostik, XSvamp1Re, CemaTheSlayer from team Pango; the roster that'll be going against complexity Gaming”, he said. The crowd started cheering and hooting as the players walked through the center towards the stage, waving hands and throwing high-fives. The turn out wasn't overwhelming, but it was enough to fill the room with excitement. © Adela Sznajder/ ESL The players were allowed to walk in on the stage with their own set of peripherals that they are comfortable with, as long as they go through the referee who makes sure that they are not bringing in any exploits to gain advantage in the game. The crowd started settling in for the action, as the players were setting up their rigs and loading the game. I could hear a lot of distant chatter about what the people around me thought the game was going to be like. Each of them were making their own predictions. Honestly, I was quite surprised to see the sheer amount of knowledge some of these people had, and also their involvement in the game. I remember talking to a 'Pango' fan next to me, who started narrating me what the roster should be doing in that particular match to win. © Adela Sznajder/ ESL As the match started, the Dota 2 fans around me started showing their passion for the sport. It's one thing to sit home and watch the players play their game, and a completely different thing to sit among the people who know the game so well that they literally gushed out of their seats in excitement after watching their favorite player pull a solid victory move. It's a great feeling that you'd get only by experiencing the event firsthand live in front of you. I couldn't sit through the entire 'Best of 3' game, since I had I rush for the backstage tour where the real magic happens. But here are some really cool pictures from the event which you probably won't find anywhere else - A Geeky Gathering Backstage The ESL One team was kind enough to take me and a bunch of other journalists for a backstage tour of the event, to show us how their teams were running the show behind the scene. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take any pictures or record video while we were backstage for some obvious reasons, so I suggest you put on your imagination hat and start grasping as much as possible. From massive computer rigs to human-sized machines controlling the lighting system, the backstage is where's it's at. “All the computers that you're going to see here, and on stage are running on the most powerful tech that we can get our hands on”, said Seth Bull, the partner manager at ESL who's taking care of all the backend operation during the event. © Adela Sznajder/ ESL For the record, all the computing power that was necessary to run the operations at ESL One was provided by Intel. “Why we love working with Intel is because they provide us with some of the best and reliable tech we can get our hands on”, added Seth. Seth took through various areas of the backstage like 'Player Lounge', which, as the name suggests is a place where players can hangout after a match. We also saw 'Team Rooms', which is essentially room in which the players gather right before and after a match to discuss or even practice a game or two. As we were rushing through the huge backstage area, I couldn't help but notice the piles of empty monitor boxes that were lying around. Almost all the monitors used at ESL One (or at least the ones I could see) were ASUS monitors. Some of them were the ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q (FHD) while others were the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ (4K) units. From the monitors on-stage to the monitors used backstage by the operations team, ASUS is what I could see. © Adela Sznajder/ ESL The TV Production room was where the real work was being done. There were close to a hundred people working together to make sure that the steam was up and running at all time without any issues whatsoever. Seth made it a point to tell us that the level of production work that was going down inside that room was almost equivalent to what you'd see on high-profile events such a 'World Championship' games, etc. During our tour, the entire production unit was closely monitoring the systems as one of the most anticipated games of the season between “Mineski” and “Natus Vincere” a.k.a “Na'Vi” was underway. We could hear the crowd going crazy behind us as the players were walking on to the stage. Anti-Cheat Measures & Other Exploits “ESL's main team in Cologne, Germany is the one that's monitoring all our game data and keeping an eye out for any sort of anomalies“, said Seth, when we asked him if there were any anti-cheat measures in place. We were also told that ESL works with a lot of companies that provides anti-cheat software for games like Dota 2 and Counter Strike. Again, thanks to Intel, the computers both on and off stage have 'Hot Swap Drive Bay' so that each player has a copy of game ready at all times with all the optimum playable settings. Not only does it helps the team save some time, but it also means that no one can access the game files without authorization and tamper the files in any possible way. Also, there was no internet connection for the computers on-stage, an they all were connected to a LAN, ensuring that there's nothing getting into their systems. Intel's booth Was Fun Too Intel, in case you don't know, is one of the main backers of ESL One eSports event, and the company had set up a huge booth at the event venue. Intel's booth was honestly one of the coolest parts of the event as they had a lot going in there. There were a ton of gaming laptops and custom gaming rigs in the booth, and all of them were open for all visitors to check out. © MensXP/ Karthik Iyer I couldn't get good pictures of some of the awesome gaming rigs in the booth mainly because of how packed it was, but I did manage to check out Acer Predator Thronos. Yes, it was the first time checking it out and I am glad that I stopped by. The Predator Thronos, Alienware's Area M51 were clearly some of the coolest products on showcase. © MensXP/ Karthik Iyer I also had a chance to sit and talk with Frank Soqui, VP & General Manager, Gaming at Intel. Lee Machen, General Manager, Gaming Sales at Intel and Prakash Mallya, VP and Managing Director, Sales and Marketing Group, Intel India were also present for interaction. I had a great time chatting with them, discussing gaming, hardware, and more. The Final Say Setting up a huge stage like the one at ESL, and putting up such a massive show without running into any technical difficult is not easy feat. Of course, ESL is working with top brands in the industry like Intel to ensure smooth functioning, but handling logistics worth over $2 million is something that's worth appreciating. © MensXP/ Karthik Iyer The event, in my opinion, was as much a festival as it was a tournament. Could I have watched the entire event from the comfort of my home? Yes, absolutely! However, I wouldn't have heard the loud cheering or the crowd in real time or I wouldn't have witnessed the enthusiastic gamers literally jump up from their seats to show their excitement. Granted, I haven't experienced some of the bigger sporting events such as the Wimbledon or the Super Bowl yet, but experiencing the ESL One Dota 2 eSports competition with hundreds of strangers will undoubtedly go down as one of the geekiest gigs I've ever been a part of. © Adela Sznajder/ ESL Oh BTW, 'Keen Gaming' beat 'Mineski' to win ESL One Mumbai.
  7. The last Honest Review Ft. Zain & Shantanu.... Or maybe not?
  8. 25 years ago, when a premature baby took birth in retired Lt. Col. B.D. Saha's family, asphyxiated as he was taken out of her mother's womb, the doctors had sensitised them to the possibility of severe brain damage and other medical problems that may occur as the child went on to grow. “On the fourth day since Ankush's birth, his heart had stopped functioning. He was a preterm baby who was going blue and black, clenching his fists as he gasped for air,” recalls the father of Ankush Saha, the athlete with intellectual disability, who went on to win silver at the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. You and I are different. We look different, our likes and dislikes are different and different are the ways in which we learn new things. There are various people in the world, 200 million to be exact, who deal with intellectual disability (ID) and fail to comprehend and learn new skills at a speed similar to that of an average human being. Having said that, they too have the passion to strive for greatness and have excelled in all walks of life, sometimes far more than us, the “normals”. Albeit, their journey is that much more difficult, it is their resolve to make good of their lives in this testing world that helps them go places. When it comes to sports, a global nonprofit body known as Special Olympics, looks to put people suffering from ID under tough test of fitness, strength and skills, and reward them with great laurels for their dedication towards the discipline. In 2019, the organisation held the World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi and the Indian contingent of 284 athletes displayed excellence as they bagged a total of 368 medals which included 85 golds, 154 silver and 129 bronze, making it their most successful performance in the nine times they have participated. But all this information is available just a click away on the internet. What continues to remain aloof from the ever expanding grasps of the world wide web are the tiny but important details that not only influence but also run the lives of such special athletes. I decided to do something about it. In the past couple of weeks, I got in touch with some Indian Special Olympics medallists and got to spend some quality time with their families. From representing India at the World Summer Games to the idea of a life after retiring from sports, here's what no one else will tell you about the lives of Special Olympics athletes of this nation: Becoming A Special Olympian With Uncertain Future Dinal Jain - Special Olympics Medallist In order to be named a 'Special Olympics athlete' a person must have an intellectual functioning level (IQ) below 75; significant limitations must exist in two or more adaptive skill areas; and the condition must manifest itself before the age of 18. State meets are organised all around the nation where two athletes per sport are selected from every state for national level competitions, following which the World Summer Games selections take place. After winning gold at state and national level, the athlete must attend and pass through a tough selection process in four consecutive camps post which a letter is sent to the athlete's parents saying that they are a member of the final contingent. Having said that, the grueling process may not bear fruits for these sportspersons the way their parents had hoped. According to the policy guidelines of Special Olympics Bharat (SO Bharat), Indian body under Special Olympics, the selection criteria states: “An athlete is eligible for selection only once for World Games to ensure exposure to maximum number of athletes in India.” So, even if special Indian athletes, who are involved in popular sports like swimming, do bag medals at the World Games, they will not be allowed to compete ever again, just because there are dozens of swimmers with ID and SO Bharat believes in giving others the opportunity to go for the Games. “The policy guidelines of SO Bharat follows the practice of giving a chance to more and more Special Athletes to participate at the SO World Games. SO Bharat has over 1.4 Million Athletes registered with them. More and more Athletes are encouraged to participate in this transformational experience,” Mr. Victor R Vaz, National Sports Director, Special Olympics Bharat told me over email. Need For Coaches Who Understand Special Athletes In the case of the coaches for special athletes, the job expects you to have a lot more than just the knowledge about the game. It requires you to be patient, understanding of people with special needs and have the ability to make them understand their roles. “You need to spend more time with them and figure out different ways to make them understand what needs to be done,” says Sharath Gayakwad, 2010 Asian Para Games bronze medallist, who coaches Special Olympic medallists like Shashank Mahesh and Dinal Jain in Bengaluru. Sharath Gayakwad, 2010 Asian Para Games bronze medallist and Coach “When it comes to Down Syndrome, Autism or any special category, the mood swings remain the same and handling them is a very tricky thing. The coaches must be selected keeping their ability to manage these problems along with the knowledge of the game,” says Gayathri Mahesh, Shashank's mother. “Coaches should be selected on the basis of their experience, as it should, which I could not see in Abu Dhabi (during the 2019 World Summer Games). Most of the coaches claim to be working in special schools but they failed to understand the smallest needs of the special kids,” said another parent who chose to remain anonymous. How Is Special Olympics Bharat Contributing? According to Special Olympics Bharat's website, their vision is “to transform communities by inspiring people throughout the world to open their minds, accept and include people with intellectual disabilities and thereby celebrate the similarities common to all.” They have taken multiple initiatives such as the Athlete Leadership Program (ALPs), Healthy Athlete Program, Young Athlete Program and Youth Activation that aim to focus on their leadership skills and help them become independent based on the principles of sports. Ankush Saha - Special Olympics Medallist However, some of the parents feel that the organisation is not doing enough. “After the World Summer Games, they don't even look at us. That's the end of the Special Olympics, that's the end of the child,” the anonymous mother shakes her head in disappointment. Coaches on the other hand, believe that the organisation does provide some support to the athletes. “When it comes to the facilities, we do have the infrastructure. Of course it is not up to the mark of USA, China or Australia but we do have some good facilities,” says Gayakwad, who coaches swimmers at Bengaluru's Pooja Aquatic Centre. Once Retired, What's Next? No matter how rosey the present may feel for these athletes, the future for some of them does not look too promising. Athletes like Shashank who train to swim faster every single day are also on medication to slow their movements down due to his Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Such is the paradox that is creating major concerns for the parents about their children's lives once they are done with sports. “He (Shashank) is on medication and that in itself is pulling his strength and stamina down… He has lost his confidence because he feels like he is getting tired too quickly,” says Mrs. Mahesh. It is therefore imperative for special athletes to look for an alternative career than sports. “Shashank is done with his school and will soon will get his college degree, too. What kind of a job opportunity am I looking at for my son, now? Maybe the role of taking files from one room to another. Is he made only for that?” asks the concerned mother. Shashank Mahesh - Special Olympics Medallist, With Mother “Sports helps them improve their confidence, personality development and social behavior. Alongside sports participation they can always learn different vocations which could be resorted through other NGOs. There are opportunities beyond sports as well, in Special Olympics that can be availed,” Mr. Vaz says. During the time I spent with these athletes, I got to inspect their traits and the way they manage to carry on with their day to day lives. People like Shashank who suffer from moderate autism have quite a few extraordinary talents. Passionate for the things they want to pursue, with no strings attached to social expectations or materialistic desires, they also have excellent memory. Such characteristics are not only ideal for the betterment of the society but any international organisation would love to bring such attributions to their team in a heartbeat. People have asked me a million times as to why I am after this story so badly, what is it that has kept me invested in the uncut, unfiltered version of their lives when all the major publications had decided to turn a blind eye? This is why. The lives of all 12,43,246 such athletes with intellectual disabilities must be given the attention and appreciation that they deserve. People like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have the following of millions and millions of Indians, as they should. They have worked and hustled hard to reach where they have but so have Ankush Saha, Dinal Jain and Shashank Mahesh.
  9. From artsy nooks and streets, renaissance architecture, beautiful museums, picturesque landscapes to the breathtaking alps and lakes, Switzerland is hands down the most beautiful country in the world. As for those with calculators in their hands and the perennial question on their minds, yes it is one of the most expensive countries, but trust me it's totally worth it. You get what you pay for. After all, it ain't called 'Heaven on Earth' for no reason. And I am not talking to those who click selfies in traffic while coming to Gurgaon and post it with '#wanderlust'. I am talking to those who actually love to travel and are willing to go to any place to experience new things. Just like most of you people, my dream of travelling to Switzerland finally came true two weeks ago. Thanks to Switzerland Tourism and their fine hospitality, I got to experience how beautiful Luzern, Engelberg and Mount Titlis are and how there's so much more left to see than what meets the eye. MensXP You can find innumerable pictures of Switzerland on the internet, but what I captured on my phone is something you get only when you experience it all on your own. Switzerland is so beautiful that even these pictures I clicked on a phone look like the works of a professional photographer. MensXP If you ask me, I will say March is the best time to go. You get to experience surreal things and lots of winter sports activities. MensXP You can watch the sudden rain showers turn into a sunny day, while sipping hot chocolate in a boat cruise in Luzern (aka Lucerne). MensXP MensXP MensXP You can just stand in the snow and the backdrop will make you feel like you've entered Narnia. MensXP MensXP And, you can travel to Mount Titlis in minus 20 degrees and come back alive to talk about it. MensXP You can walk through the Glacier cave and manage to capture its beauty, despite your phone covered with frost. MensXP MensXP Switzerland is one place where you cannot crib about bad pictures, and if these pictures did not convince you, then here are some more that will make you fall in love with the place all over again. 10. The recent Ethiopian Airlines crash has once again put the Boeing MAX 8 aircraft in the spotlight. Just five months ago, another MAX 8 being operated by Lion Air crashed, taking the total toll to 346. Aviation is statistically the safest mode of transport, and two crashes within such a short period are alarming. Following the crash, more than 40 countries have grounded the aircraft until further investigations are carried out and changes are made. India's DGCA has also grounded the aircraft and currently Spicejet and Jet Airways operate the plane. With more than 400 aircrafts on order from Indian carriers, the MAX 8 plays a pivotal role in boosting India's aviation market. © Utkarsh Thakkar / @vimanspotter Boeing's MAX series is the successor of 737 Next Generation family (737-700/800/900), and the company is relying on it to churn out profits. Even Boeing has been making aircraft for decades, and its expertise is often unmatched. So, the only question that arises is, how can a modern airliner be this unsafe? The MAX series was Boeing's response to Airbus's A320 NEO family. NEO stands for New Engine Option and while the fuselage remains unchanged, the engines are completely revamped to offer better-operating efficiency. Regional airlines worldwide require planes that are cheaper to operate, especially when aviation fuel is extremely dynamic globally. To compete with the NEO, Boeing started the MAX series and offered up to 14 percent more efficient engines along with increased cabin comfort. But, this came with a small challenge. © Boeing The Ethiopian crash investigation will take months to conclude, but initial data suggest striking similarity between the two crashes. The preliminary report on Lion Air crash is out, and we'll be relying on it to understand MAX 8's major flaw. The MAX 8 is powered by CFM's Leap 1B engines and they are significantly bigger than the previous CFM 56 engines (used in the 737 NG). Adding to this, the 737 was designed decades back and has an exceedingly low ground clearance when compared to the A320. To perfectly fit the new heavier and bigger engines, Boeing had to make minor changes in the design ranging from lengthening the landing gear to moving the engine slightly forward. © Aviation International News It was found that the bigger engine meant the plane handled certain situations differently and there was also a slight shift in the centre of gravity. The relocation and new engine design created an upward movement, nudging the plane's nose upwards. If the nose is lifted sharply, the plane will continue gaining altitude and could also stall mid-air. A stall is when an aeroplane cannot generate enough lift to continue flying. To compensate this upward movement, Boeing added a new system called MCAS (Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System) that prevented the plane from raising its noise to extreme levels. The system would automatically adjust the horizontal stabilizer and bring down the nose. To make these adjustments, MCAS relies on data from the Angle of Attack sensors. © Wikimedia (AoA sensor for reference) These sensors are located on the nose of the aircraft and calculate the angle at which the plane is climbing or descending in comparison to the oncoming air. In the case of Lion Air, faulty sensors triggered the MCAS and automatically the system tried to bring the nose down. According to the flight data recorder, automated MCAS repeatedly pushed the plane's nose down following take-off. The most surprising part of the MCAS though is Boeing hasn't mentioned the addition of this system during pilot training or manuals. This meant the pilot were unaware that a programmed system is trying to bring down the nose. Even if the pilots tried to takeover manual controls, MCAS cannot be simply stopped by moving the yoke. They need to manually trim the aircraft to gain control, but how will they know this procedure when the existence of MCAS is unknown to them? © Reuters The Lion Air pilot had more than 5,000 hours of experience and the Ethiopian pilot had more than 8,000 hours. Preliminary reports do not point towards any kind of crew error. Reports say pilots have in the past complained about a similar nose-down anomaly in FAA's database (US regulator) as well. Following the Lion Air crash, Boeing issued a bulletin to airlines operating the 737 MAX 8 advising pilots how to override the MCAS system. This week, the plane maker also announced it's working on a long-term plan to rejig the system and update shall be applied in the coming months. © Reuters We'll have to wait for the Ethiopian crash report to clear the air whether it was the same MCAS issue that caused the incident, or are there any other flaws in the airliner. Boeing has described the MAX series as its fastest-selling family of planes, with more than 5,000 orders placed to date from about 100 customers. The last time an aircraft suffered successive fatal incidents was the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 in the 70s. 11. We find love in the strangest of places. All while a seemingly unthreatening person manages to disarm us with that one look or smile casually thrown our way, which leaves our heart craving for more, so much more! The arena of online dating happens to be one such space where most of us venture into without any set expectations of what might come our way. That is mostly because this entire scene of online dating bears an air of mystery and suspense around it - a sort of a thrill that has succeeded in luring even a few “hermits” around us. You never know who you will meet in this virtual world, and even if you think you like the person you behold on the screen going by their bio, likes-dislikes and hobbies et al., you cannot be too sure unless you meet them up close and see for yourself if the two of you are worth another shot. Souvik Thakur Sure, this might be true in 99% of the cases, though there still exist a few who get so lucky with their online dates, that they end up signing the deal of spending an entire lifetime with one another. Such is the story of Souvik and Upasana, who met each other on an online dating website, and so fiery was their chemistry from the very onset, that the couple ended up marrying each other within a year of their first official date! It all began in late 2017, or more specifically 22nd October 2017 as Upasana would point out when the two first found out about each other on an online dating platform. Souvik is quick to add that, “it was her smile that caught my attention,” and he didn't waste any time in getting in touch with Upasana after that. “It was love at first sight (for me), even though we were living in two different cities then. I was in Delhi, while she was in Kolkata,” adds Souvik. Remembering that fateful night, Upasana recalls, “I remember that Sunday. I had a night recess and after I woke up, I saw a notification of his request. After reading his message, I shared my phone number. Within a second he called me, and we started talking. He spoke for an hour and by the end of it, he proposed me for marriage.” Souvik Thakur We know, that almost sounds like a Japanese bullet train of dating on the move. But you know what, in the matters of the heart, when you know, you know. Whether it is a matter of knowing someone for an hour, a year or even ten years for that matter, you simply know it when you find 'the one'. However, we wonder, if their first virtual meeting was so zippy, imagine all the fire alarms that must have gone off when the two met each other for the first time, for real! You guessed it, for both Souvik and Upasana, their first date remains one of the greatest highlights of their relationship so far. It was 25th December 2017 when they finally met in person after constantly being in touch for a little over two months. While Souvik recalls the day for their exploration of the City of Joy, eating and shopping their hearts out and making memories together, it was much more special for Upasana. Souvik Thakur “It was 25th December and he had come down from Delhi to meet me. Naturally, it was special for me. We met at Esplanade, the heart of Kolkata. Then we went to Princep Ghat. After spending some quality time on the bank of river Ganges, we went to taste Biryani from Kolkata's famous Biryani shop. Then he surprised me by gifting me a yellow-green from a famous boutique,” shares Upasana. The saree, as Souvik tells us, was a gift to celebrate their first date. And they say men are not romantic and thoughtful enough. Anyhow, that's definitely one memorable first date the two had, won't you agree? However, from the numerous memories the two share between them, for Souvik one of the most unforgettable ones is when the two spent some quiet time alone in each other's company on the terrace at his place - “(the) terrace is a very special place for me. I love to read, write, sing on the terrace. Finally, I took her to my special place in the house,” recalls Souvik. Our man here had finally found the woman to share his special place with, and we all know that's a big commitment all by itself, even though many women don't know it at the moment. But since things were already moving in the fifth gear for the couple since the beginning, the real deal was never too far behind. Souvik Thakur Soon after their first meeting, Souvik couldn't wait to take the next big step. He had all the plans laid out. But like it is usually in the case of love, things don't come easy. Sure enough, Souvik had a hurdle to move past before he could claim his lady love, and make her his for the next 'seven lifetimes'. Since Souvik was living in Delhi for work, it meant that for Upasana getting married would be a lot more than just tying the knot. So when Souvik popped the question, Upasana couldn't accept the proposal instantly, even when she wanted to. “I would have said yes, but couldn't. Since he lived in Delhi for the sake of his job, and I didn't want to relocate from my hometown Kolkata, I clearly told him so. He was very disheartened, but tried to convince me to make the move. After 15 days, he succeeded. I agreed to move to Delhi.” Once this was taken care of, things picked up speed and their families got involved. The date for the wedding was set and finally, on 2nd December 2018, the couple got hitched. Even though most things happened in a blur in their relationship, married life has come with its own share of lessons and experiences for the couple. Souvik Thakur According to Upasana, their journey from bachelorhood to being married has changed their perspective about relationship and love. As a married couple, they are becoming more and more responsible with every passing day. Even Souvik agrees that the relationship has taught him to choose his battles wisely, adjust and compromise where necessary and take important decisions keeping each other in mind. However, with all things said and done, the newlyweds believe that their relationship has taught them to love selflessly and accept each other's quirks. “We are two very much different people. She is loud and expressive, whereas I am soft and calm. But we love to eat, travel & listen to music together. These are the binding factors of our relationship and our lives”, says Souvik. Souvik Thakur For Upasana, however, the most unique quality of her husband is that “he is a very good human being, funny and he is very passionate towards his work.” The couple may be completely opposite in nature and personality type, but these traits help to balance their relationship and add depth to it. Married for just two months today, the journey so far has been a revelation for the couple in a lot of ways. Not only are they getting to know each other more deeply, but they are also evolving as individuals as they take on this journey called life together.
  12. Yesterday, a FaceTime bug that would let users eavesdrop on call recipients went viral for all the wrong reasons and since then the company has disabled the feature for the time being. What people don't know is how the bug was discovered in the first place. Now you can answer for yourself on FaceTime even if they don't answerð¤#Apple explain this.. pic.twitter.com/gr8llRKZxJ — Benji Mobb™ (@BmManski) January 28, 2019 A teenager discovered the bug when he was trying to organise his friends to play the popular battle royale game 'Fortnite'. Grant Thompson, a 14-year-old high school student managed to discover the bug accidentally and has now become the hot topic of discussion. After already being in a call with his friend, Thompson tried to add another friend to the same call and discovered that he could hear his friend even though the phone call was unanswered. © Apple “We were pretty shocked at first because it was still ringing on his phone,” he told NBC News on Tuesday. “After that, we tested it for about half an hour to see if it worked every time.” My teen found a major security flaw in Apple's new iOS. He can listen in to your iPhone/iPad without your approval. I have video. Submitted bug report to @AppleSupport...waiting to hear back to provide details. Scary stuff! #apple #bugreport @foxnews — MGT7 (@MGT7500) January 21, 2019 Since the discovery, the teenager and his mother tried to alert Apple of the problem but did not get noticed by the company. The mother even tried to use a law firm's letterhead in a letter to get Apple's attention. When those efforts were met with no response, they then turned to the Apple bounty program where users are paid to find bugs in iOS. However, that didn't work out either as it required them to be registered as a developer and have the technical knowledge to file the bug report. Finally, they made a YouTube video which was later picked up by media outlets and went viral. Source: NBC News
  13. Looking back in time, I had always wanted to become a cricketer and my entire childhood was spent on the pitch. Then came the shock for me, as just like many talented young players, I could not clear the national trials and sadly had to put the bat down. My parents and teachers asked me to focus on the dreaded board exams. Back then I was extremely skinny. So skinny that my ribs were visible to the naked eye! People assumed that just because I was skinny, I was weak, which resulted in me getting bullied. This got to my head at times and I wanted to hit back but since I was way too skinny, they would often overpower me. This constant body shaming was bringing down my morale and confidence. Then I thought that if I would gain some weight, people will stop picking on me and I could stand up for myself. I joined a gym solely for this purpose. When I went in, I couldn't even lift a 2.5 kg dumbbell and even bodyweight exercises would hurt me. I was yet again bullied at the gym. I got frustrated within a week with all the bullying at the gym and decided to quit. Later that night, I saw Yash Anand's body transformation on YouTube. He was skinny just like me. Actually, even skinnier! But with consistency and hard work he built a great physique. This motivated me to forget about my bullies and just focus on my goal. Since that day there has been no turning back. Week by week, I overcame my weaknesses and got stronger. I learned from different Indian YouTubers and made my diet that fitted my lifestyle and budget. Training I usually follow two muscle groups a day routine and split it up into push-pull. Compound movements still are the core of my training. Progressive overload plays another big factor in muscle growth that I have always kept in mind. Eating I counted the calories that I needed in order to put on muscle mass and that was about it. I cook all my meals and keep a check on how much I am consuming and what all I am eating throughout the day. My ultimate goal is to build a physique like Hrithik Roshan, and I believe that in the last 2 years I have made some progress towards my goal. And I will continue to better myself each day.
  14. Let's take a walk down the memory lane and remember those different types of charts we would go buy for school. They were usually something like 'types of fruits' or 'types of flowers' but there were some particular charts that had directions to become the ideal child. We all remember the 'adarsh balak' and now even Stephen Fry does. The English comedian, actor, and writer stumbled upon a framed 'adarsh balak' chart at his doctor's office and was so confused by it that he decided to share it with his 12.7 million followers. Decidedly odd of my doctor to hang this in his surgery. I've tried to live up to it though. Haven't managed to "Pray Almighty" or "Join NCC", otherwise I'm getting there. pic.twitter.com/Dl52jaqang — Stephen Fry (@stephenfry) January 19, 2019 When a 61-year-old man is just about getting close to becoming the ideal child, then why was so much pressure put on us when we were kids? He was so fascinated by this chart, he went ahead and found more of them when someone asked. I'm afraid to say that the closest I could find was this ... make of it what you will pic.twitter.com/m5Yc6uvg1T — Stephen Fry (@stephenfry) January 19, 2019 This obviously sparked the interest of desi Twitter and so many people shared a lot of other charts in the comments. 15. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have been trending in the last few quarters. Similarly, the hot word back in 2014-15 was "wearable". This included any gadget we could wear -- smartwatch, smart band, spectacles, ring, clothing, shoes, and more. For decades we've seen sci-fi movies featuring wearable technology, and so we expected the boom to be huge. But the segment has received a lukewarm response and is still counted as a niche category. Remember the time when tablets were a huge deal and expected to take over the world? Sure, tablets too are selling in millions, but these sales are nothing when compared to smartphones. Phones have been leading the consumer market forever now, and there's no sign of stopping it. What is stopping wearables from gaining traction? When will this segment become mainstream? And, who are the current industry leaders? Here's everything you need to know! 1. Very Limited Practicality © Samsung Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy S3 Frontier are among the most powerful smartwatches, but in day-to-day life, you barely find any use. Except for passive health tracking and HR, you get notifications delivered to your wrist. That's it. If you go for the Apple Watch LTE variant, independent calling is possible, but that's exactly why it's niche market. Nobody wants to spend so much on a "smartwatch" when they have an equivalent phone and can spend the same amount on a luxury watch, that commands more class. © Apple There is no doubt that they have made daily tracking very simple and it's extremely helpful for fitness freaks, but when the same functionality can be ported to a "band" as well, then what's the use of a smartwatch? Remember Google Glass? It was a smart spectacle that had a small HUD (Heads Up Display) along with a camera. It failed. While the failure was because of different reasons, consumers just couldn't understand the practical use of wearing a small display right in front of you. 2. They Are Too Expensive © BCCL The Apple Watch Series 4 will easily cost you an upward of Rs 40,000. For the same price, you can get a flagship OnePlus 6T, or some more and even an iPhone. Why would one want to spend so much on a timepiece that has limited functionality when a complete phone is available? Even if we consider other gadgets like the Samsung Galaxy S3 Frontier, it costs at least Rs 25,000. On the other hand, smart bands cost just a fraction of the amount and are capable of detecting HR. Companies like Fitbit are concentrating on health and fitness, while WearOS OEMs are very confused about what they want to do. This leaves behind an enormous vacuum in the pricing slabs, there are a lot of affordable smart bands, and ultra-expensive smartwatches, but no middle ground. 3. Stupidly Low Battery Life © iGeeksBlog Even after buying an Apple Watch, you'll have to charge it every day. Same applies to almost every other smartwatch out there, exceptions being the Amazfit Pace and Fitbit Versa. But, while the two offer battery life, they offer no feature except for notifications and passive health tracking. Even though the charging time is considerably less, the point is about having to remove the watch, plug it in and follow the routine every day. Also, you won't be able to go more than a day without the charger. 4. They Need To Stop Looking Nerdy © BCCL Apple Watch has a class-leading design, so does the Samsung Galaxy S3 Frontier and Gear Sport. Fitbits are built for intensive activities and are more on the ergonomic end. Fossil does a splendid job as well. But, pretty much all other WearOS devices suck in terms of design. If you want to make a segment mainstream, stop making it look like it's built for a niche crowd - "the nerds". The phase is gone, a normal consumer wants flaunting rights. And, rectangular plastic design's are not helping the cause. 5. Privacy Matters © Mashable There have been a lot of concerns regarding one's privacy around wearables. Like I said earlier, the Google Glass has been mired in controversy thanks to the little camera it had. Nobody wants a real-time camera watching or recording them without permission, especially when an individual is in control of it. Snapchat's Spectacles are built for exactly the same audience, record as much as you can, but it has an LED on the front to notify others. There have been multiple incidents when hackers got into wearable devices and collected GPS as well as health data of soldiers who resided in an army base. Germany has barred the sale of activity trackers to children and more concerns are always brewing.
  16. If I look back, it was during my boarding school days when fitness first happened to me. Thanks to the ethos of the school, we were equally pressed to be physically fit as we were to be good at academics. From doing push-ups, pull-ups, sprints to yoga, I almost started learning everything about fitness right from my boarding school days. Days Of Being Skinny Though I loved being an outdoorsman, I was still pretty skinny. The craze of building a good physique started when I was in 10th standard, as I used to do pull-ups every day on an old iron bar running across our dormitory. This was followed by 50-100 push-ups. After doing this for months on end, I noticed an impressive difference in my biceps, chest and the back. I was hooked! Since the food served at the hostel kitchen massively lacked protein, I was still skinny and stuck at 45 kilos. The Bullying Motivated Me! Since I was a skinny little fellow, my classmates made it sure to take my case. I was called names, picked up and thrown around and pushed around throughout the day. On the face of it, I acted cool. Deep inside, this bullying added the fuel to my fire to getting jacked. Hostel Food Growing up in a hostel, food was a major issue. I needed more food to put on weight but never actually got enough. Luckily though, by the time I entered 12th standard, I had managed to put on 5 kilos of weight and graduated proudly out of school. Stepping Into A Real Gym I got admission in Bangalore for my higher studies and it was there where I first saw a real gym. The bodybuilders there astonished me and I was hooked onto the dream. I immediately took the membership and started working out the very next day. The Nutrition Confusion So, now I had access to machines, but what I didn't have was the knowledge about the right nutrition. I kept eating whatever I got and performed exercises with poor form. Back in the day, there was no YouTube or Facebook to look at and learn things, so I did what I could pick up from the bigger guys in the gym. Despite going to the gym everyday, I saw no legitimate results. The bigger guys suggested me to get on steroids and tutored me to believe that only steroids can get me bigger. Luckily, I didn't go ahead as I was aware of the adverse effects of anabolics. Then I joined a group on FB that promoted the keto diet like a religion. I gave the diet a try and was left in a miserable condition. I lost fat and along with that whatever little lean muscle I had. Soon after, I stopped doing that and also stopped following the group. Reading The Right Things I then joined a really credible FB group and started reading nutrition research papers, instead of following 'bro-science' experts. Whatever good info I came about, I applied that in my training and nutrition. The rest is rock and roll history. Slowly and steadily, I got into fitness professionally. After realizing that natural bodybuilding is a joke because of untested competitions, my interest shifted towards Powerlifting, which was a turning point in my life. Since then, I have competed in 2 powerlifting meets. Presently, I am also doing a training course by GetSetGo Fitness to take my career further ahead in the fitness industry.
  17. Durga Singh's Karan and Arjun are back and showing the whole world how to spend a perfect Sunday - by watching their own movie 'Karan Arjun' together after 23 years. Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood's Baadshah and Sultan, were chilling together and walking down the memory lane, when most of us were busy watching 'Sooryavansham' for the 1234567th time on TV. Honestly, I have seen Hira Thakur drink that damn poisoned 'kheer' so many times, it doesn't even bother me any more. Film Kraft Anyway, coming back to Bollywood's OG brothers, Salman posted this video on his social media today, where he is watching 'Karan Arjun' with SRK at a party. For all those who thought that things were not fine between SRK and Salman, watch this. They are not only working on movies together, they are even attending parties together. View this post on Instagram Karan + Arjun ... fond memories @iamsrk A post shared by Salman Khan (@beingsalmankhan) on Dec 30, 2018 at 2:00am PST Salman even captioned the video, "Karan + Arjun...fond memories @iamsrk." Earlier, Shah Rukh visited the 'Bigg Boss' house to promote his movie 'Zero'. Unless you were living under a rock all this time, Salman has done a cameo in 'Zero' and even shared the video of the song on social media, "Dost ke naam, dosti ke naam, isqh karne waalon ke naam, isqhbaazi ke naam! #IssaqbaaziOutNow @iamsrk." 18. 'No Shave November' just came to an end last Friday, and those of you who participated this year might now be looking like a totally different version of yourselves. The newly earned, full face of stubble, or wackily (over)grown beards, have been a matter of immense pride, but now with the curtains drawn on 'No Shave November', we can already guess about the inner struggle you might be going through. For the first-timers, it's all about the next step now, while for others, the plans have already been laid out. Whether you plan to keep that look on or ditch it for a cleaner look, grooming yourself is still key given that we've officially hit the month of December. © MensXP Now, some of you might be unaware of how to look after your mane and beard the right way, and that's understandable given that the very makers behind one of India's most popular men's grooming brand 'Ustraa', went through the same struggle as you, not so long ago! It was at the crucial age of 35 when the grit and resolve of friends Rajat Tuli and Rahul Anand were tested. Rahul and Rajat had been working with an IT firm in Hyderabad which was hitting major losses before finally tasting the dust. This entire process found the duo relocating first from Hyderabad to Mumbai and then finally to Delhi, before they suddenly found themselves altogether broke and unemployed. With no intention of going back to work for someone else and no savings to fund their personal business venture, Rajat and Rahul sold their office laptop to an ex's father for Rs. 50,000 and launched their first startup with it, which is today popularly known as 'Happily Unmarried'. © MensXP 'Happily Unmarried' was born out of the founders' personal experiences of struggles when trying to set up a house (and life) as single men. The brand went on to cater to the lifestyle-related needs of young, unmarried men. They did have their own share of challenges though, as from being newbies with no business background to drawing no salaries in the first year, were just a few struggles they faced. Yet, in the face of numerous setbacks, Rahul and Rajat stood tall against all odds. Their perseverance and faith in their products paid off, because today, as we all know, 'Happily Unmarried' has become a hugely popular brand. So obviously, when the time came to expand, the duo decided to give their luck another try and enter a totally new and (quite) unexplored area in the Indian market. Talking about this next big step, Rajat Tuli, in an exclusive interview to MensXP, said, “Till five years ago, what you were getting in terms of men's grooming, was what you were getting 25 years ago. So while the men had evolved, the products that were made for them hadn't.” © MensXP This became their threshold and after much deliberation, which was then followed by thorough market research, Rajat and Rahul decided to enter the men's grooming sector. And once they did, boy, did they turn up the heat or what! Their new men's grooming brand's name was called 'Ustraa', and as simple and on-point as the name is, so are their range of products! What started out as an employee's complaints regarding lack of good beard products in the market, took a whole new form in the many grooming products that Ustraa offers, right from beard oils, aftershave balms to shaving creams and body wash. Such was the popularity and reach of Ustraa, that within a year of their launch, they had touched over 1000 towns across the country! Catch Rajat Tuli spill the beans on Rahul and his personal journey to build their dreams into a reality. Learn why the M.I.C.A graduates were called stupid and how that 'stupidity' transformed their lives with Happily Unmarried and Ustraa's inception, besides a lot more!

  20. Sometimes, some people are just at the right spot and end up capturing a moment of a lifetime. This is exactly what happened when a photographer happened to be at the Yosemite National Park in New York and managed to capture the exact moment when a guy proposed to someone. Who wouldn't want to have that moment with them forever? That's the reason Matthew Dippel, the man behind the photograph, took to Twitter to find the couple and give them this special gift. Twitter help, idk who these two are but I hope this finds them. I took this at Taft Point at Yosemite National Park, on October 6th, 2018. pic.twitter.com/Rdzy0QqFbY — Matthew Dippel (@DippelMatt) October 17, 2018 As we all know, sometimes the internet can be a great place with people helping each other and that's why the picture soon went viral, with everyone trying their best to help find the couple. But, even with so many retweets and everyone sharing the picture, there was still no luck. Update #2: Still no luck. A lot of people saying they found them but doesn't turn out to be the right couple. If you honestly think you found them message me please! I can't keep scrolling through the comments to look. Thanks everyone! — Matthew Dippel (@DippelMatt) October 19, 2018 Honestly, that's not them, you can easily tell. 21. The megastar aka the living legend of Bollywood turned 76 today, and if you couldn't manage to queue up in front of Jalsa to wish him on his birthday, I am guessing most of you would have wished him on social media already. Amitabh Bachchan is the undisputed and unconquered king of Bollywood, but what makes him special are his unique fans, who go to extreme lengths to prove their love for him. Big B has a crazy fanbase both numerically and literally and even if you don't trust my words, these instances will make you believe that it's true: 1. A Truck Full Of Samosas © Instagram In 1982, when Amitabh Bachchan got fatally injured on the sets of 'Coolie', a samosa vendor prayed for his speedy recovery. After he was discharged from the hospital and was doing fine, the vendor sent a truck full of samosas to the actor's residence. He asked him to touch the truck once, so that he could distribute the samosas as prasad to his fans. 2. A Temple In Kolkata © Instagram Amitabh Bachchan is undoubtedly a living legend in Bollywood, a megastar who is not only loved but worshipped by his fans. But, in Kolkata, he has an actual temple built in his name. It is also said that the fans managed to get their hands on the same shoes he wore in 'Agneepath' and placed them on the very chair he sat on in 'Aks'. The temple walls have 'Jai Shri Amitabh' written on it and people sing a customised aarti for him. 3. Stalked Jalsa & Threatened To Commit Suicide © Instagram A female fan once threatened to commit suicide outside Bachchan's house, when the guards and the police didn't let her meet him. She also wanted to be employed in Jalsa, so that she could stay under the same roof as him. 4. A 100 Year-Old-Fan © Twitter There was a time when Big B's 100-year-old fan forgot everyone, even her family members and wouldn't even eat. However, she was motivated to eat when she was told that Bachchan will meet her. T 1126 -Bernadine D'Souza a fan who turns 100 years on 18th !!!! 22. Craig Monson, also known as the gangster bodybuilder, is a relatively unknown name in the bodybuilding community and most reading this article may not have even heard his name. Even though relatively less popular, he was one of the guys who were an integral part of the golden era of bodybuilding, that is, the 70s and the 80s. So Who Was This Bodybuilder? © Twitter You may have heard his name from CT Fletcher in his very first YouTube video and CT claimed that Craig was one of his early inspirations and motivators that got him into the gym. Why Was He Called The Gangster Bodybuilder? Craig was a member of a gang called The Avenue in the 1960s and one of the early members of the well-known street gang called The Cribs. He was known for being in and out of the prison a lot during the 60s and the 70s. A Few Facts About Craig Monson That Made Him Make A Huge Name During The Golden Era Of Bodybuilding He was crazy strong. He used to frequent the Venice Beach Gold's gym and rub shoulders with the famous bodybuilders of the time like Arnold Schwarzenegger. He would draw large crowds to the beach whenever he lifted there due to the crazy amount of weights he could lift. Some examples of this would be doing 500 pounds for 10 reps for bench press and 585 pounds for 5 reps. He would lift 225 pounds behind the neck tricep extensions. © Twitter He was the biggest bodybuilder of the 70s and the 80s. In his offseason, he would weigh around 310 pounds and on stage, the highest he had been was 274 pounds. That crazy amount of mass was not even something one would imagine getting on stage those days. He also had 23 and 1/4 inch arms. He used to compete in amateur shows during his gangster years and during those years, he used to compete naturally without taking any anabolic steroids. Even when competing naturally, he got up to 240 lbs in his offseason. © Twitter His inspiration to compete in pro shows came from Arnold after seeing Arnold doing a guest posing routine as Conan the Barbarian. The Barbarian character sort of spoke to his personality and drove him so much that he decided to get back to competing. © Twitter In the early 80s, someone at his gym was giving him steroids in the guise of vitamins and he did not realize it at the time. Once he did, he instead went to a doctor to get the actual prescription and went on from around 240-250 to over 300 lbs. © Twitter The show that got into pro-level bodybuilding was the Mr. World show which was held in Switzerland in the early 80s. He went to that show weighing 270+ lbs and there were no bodybuilders that had even reached 260 on stage during the time. The show placed him 5th but the crowd was so unhappy that they got vocal about their angst. This made the judges reconsider the placing and took an audience opinion instead. In doing so, Monson was crowned as the World champ in that show. © Twitter He is relatively unpopular mainly due to his dark past and his gangster days but Monson was really one of the big names that popularized the sport during the golden era of bodybuilding. © Twitter Author bio: Pratik Thakkar is the co-founder and director of GetSetGo Fitness, an online fitness company. 23. Bodybuilding as a sport became an altogether different monster in the 90s. The 70s and the 80s were dominated by smaller waists and aesthetic physiques whereas the 90s indicated the dawn of the mass era. The 90s began the era of being as big as possible along with being shredded. It was dominated by famous personalities like Dorian Yates, Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, Ronnie Coleman, and the likes. Nasser El Sonbaty AKA 'The Professor' © Bodybuilding.pic.archives He was an IFBB pro who participated in 53 pro competitions always being placed very high in the rankings. His most notable wins would be the Night of the Champions and the Arnold Classic in 1999 where he beat a bunch of spectacular athletes to the throne. Here are a few interesting facts about 'the professor': 1. He Was A Real Smart Fellow Nasser El Sonbaty was half Serbian, half Egyptian and hailed from Germany. He was a highly learned man and graduated college with a handful of degrees in history, political science, and sociology. He even spoke 7 languages fluently. 2. His Guest Posing Earned Him The Nickname The professor was a name not just given to him for the sheer amount of intelligence he had but also due to one typical aspect of his guest posing. He would wear round glasses during his guest posing shows. The round glasses and the intelligence put together earned him the nickname of 'the professor'. © Youtube 3. He Was Very Open About His Drug Usage A lot of pro bodybuilders even today fool their fans into believing that the sheer size and leanness they carry can be achieved naturally to sell a bunch of shit supplements to their followers. Kinda slitting their throats and laughing their way to the banks. Not 'the professor' though. He was very open about his usage of anabolic steroids for bodybuilding along with substances like human growth hormone and diuretics. 4. He Was Called The 'Uncrowned' Mr. O Nasser El Sonbaty used to almost always place in the top 5, the 1997 Olympia was his best performance and almost everyone who has seen clippings of that show believes that he was the more deserving athlete to win the coveted Sandow. The professor really brought it to the stage that day and hands down beat the existing champ and the winner of that show, Dorian Yates. Dorian Yates had suffered a tricep injury just 3 weeks before the show and due to that, his arms and overall conditioning were not on point. The professor beat him in all the poses but still did not win the title. He came second in that show but was the champion for people who watched that show. © Bodybuilding-pics 5. He Died Due To Suspected Steroid Abuse The professor lost his life in the March of 2013 due to kidney failure and heart complications at the young age of 47. He needed a heart transplant and could not get the same on time and died due to multiple complications. His autopsy showed that his heart weighed two times the weight of a normal adult male heart. Note- All this can be linked back to steroid usage and you cannot deny the fact that the anabolic steroid built muscle comes with a hefty price to pay. This is not to take anything from his complications and I am pretty sure he would have had a significant impact in shaping the future sport had he been alive today. 24. Imagine you are scrolling through your Facebook feed, the autoplay is turned on and you are greeted by a wild cacophony of sounds that instantly make you cringe and you wish you could get a detox done, right then and there. But alas, that is not to be. There is no coming back from the trauma of living through Tahir Shah's 'Eye To Eye' even if it was merely for a few seconds. While most decent human beings would try to recuperate from the shock and let it go, I decided to turn my pain into a means of mass torture to put things in sync with the 'Morose Monday' #feels. In the last few years, numerous 'viral' songs hit our screens and made us pull at our hair in the sheer hope that anything besides this, would be a better source of agony. So I decided to pick the 7 most terrible (read dardnaak) viral songs in the recent years that made our ears bleed. 1. Dhinchak Pooja 'Selfie Maine Le Li Aaj' & 'Dilon Ka Shooter Hai Mera Scooter' With 36,118,838 and 12,160,485 views respectively, who would guess these are a sham in the name of songs? When Dhinchak Pooja's 'Selfie Maine Le Li Aaj' came out, it was so widely circulated across social media platforms that you couldn't have escaped it even if you tried. The pain was for real and lasted for weeks to come even after you went ahead on a social media detox. 2. Pikotaro - 'PPAP' (Pen Pineapple Apple Pen) While the obscure lyrics of this one apparently made the song “catchy” for some and even evoked laughter at first, I wouldn't say I could tolerate it for a second time, even as it was picking up the pace in India. My Instagram and Facebook feed was literally blowing up with this guy's face and his strange song talking about a non-existent fruity pen that nobody really gave a shit about. Also, what was with that outfit?! 3. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan - 'Love Charger' God must have his ways of bringing people to justice because after putting people through this torture, it is only a miracle the victims have survived to tell their stories. I wonder who wrote such horrid lyrics and then added such ear-puncturing music to produce such a ghastly composition that will trouble generations to come, who have access to this god-awful piece. 4. Om Prakash - 'Bol Na Aunty Aau Kya' It is with a heavy heart that I am including this song to the story, because neither the song nor the lyrics possess anything of value to go viral. The lyrics are sexist, demeaning and introduce rape as the normal outcome of wearing short clothes or hanging out with friends. The very fact that people found such a derogatory song entertaining and funny is appalling, to say the least. 5. Vennu Mallesh - 'It's My Life Whatever I Wanna Do' Another masterpiece that shattered the little semblance of tolerance we had for upcoming talents. Who decides to fund such songs and even rent out an entire studio for such a joke of a music video? And to top it all, this went viral because, of course, we had never heard anything of the sort before. 6. Rinku Bhabhi - 'Mere Husband Mujhe Pyaar Nahi Karte' I wouldn't lie but I had a fit of laughter the first time I heard this song. I know I said the first time because I am guilty of having heard it two more times when my sister and best friend decided to make me relive the moments of “ecstasy” during two different occasions. I really cannot say I can make much sense out of this. 7. Taher Shah - 'Eye To Eye' & 'Angel' I really have no words for these two jewels right here, but if you have heard these songs, know that your life wasn't the same after.
