Paying Tribute To Chester Bennington, Coldplay Performed A Soulful Version Of Linkin Park's ‘Crawling'
As Coldplay kicked off the North American leg of their tour this Tuesday, Chris Martin decided to close the show by honouring the late Chester Bennington.
Performing at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in front a packed crowd, which also included Mike Shinoda, Martin paused the show to pay tribute to Bennington who recently committed suicide.
Martin dedicated the song to “anyone who's missing someone” and after a false start, Martin stopped and told the crowd: "I know this is probably going to end up on YouTube so I want to do it right."
Then he proceeded to play a soulful, stripped-down version of Linkin Park's Grammy award-winning ‘Crawling', which obviously struck a chord with the fans in the stadium as everyone was still mourning the loss.
Shinoda later confirmed through his Twitter that he was indeed there, and called the performance and the choice of song ‘beautiful'.
Thank you @coldplay ðð½ It sounded beautiful.

After his death, the band wrote a heart-breaking tribute to him. "Dear Chester," it read. "Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through out family as we come to grips with what has happened.
"You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realised. In the past few days, we've seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world."
RIP Chester Bennington.
