Indian Army Will Finally Get Bulletproof Jackets After A Dangerous Wait Of 9 Long Years

Superheroes wear capes, but real heroes wear the Indian Army uniform and protect us with all their might and courage on the front-lines. They brave the toughest of the weather conditions and situations to ensure our safety, and honestly no amount of words can ever express our gratitude for their bravery and selflessness.

However, it's saddening to see that our soldiers, who don't think twice before putting their lives on stake, do not even have the necessary life-saving kit at their disposal. It was only last year that these brave hearts got bulletproof helmets and after a long wait of nine years, our jawans will now get bulletproof jackets.

Yes, you read it right. NINE years after a request was made to provide more than 1.86 lakh bulletproof jackets, the government signed a 'Make in India' contract on Monday. So, finally our jawans will get hold of the life-saving kits they were in desperate need of.

SMPP Pvt Ltd, a Delhi-based company, signed this contract worth Rs. 639 crore after stringent field evaluation trials were conducted. According to the reports published in The Times of India, SMPP chairman S C Kansal said, “The new jackets meet the most advanced GSQRs 1438 (technical parameters) standards of the Indian Army. These bulletproof jackets have 'Boron carbide Ceramic' which is the lightest material for ballistic protection.”

According to the army, which has been trying really hard to get these jackets for its soldiers, the new jackets will have modular parts that provide protection and flexibility to the soldiers operating in different operational situations. In fact, the jackets are said to be designed in a way that it can sustain the impact of even the hard steel core bullets, which can save the lives of jawans during any operation.

It's truly disheartening to see that the army was until now struggling to make do with the old bulky jackets, which do not provide much safety. But now that the contract is in place, we hope that after a life-threatening wait of nine years, the soldiers get those bulletproof jackets at the earliest.
