India Scripts History By Smashing Malaysia To Win 1st Ever Mixed Team Badminton Gold At CWG 2018

It might be drizzling here in India, but it is pouring gold for our Indian athletes at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

And with our hearts filled to the brim with pride, let's break this news to you that India has lifted another gold medal at the ongoing CWG 2018. And this victory is bigger than anything else so far, because this is the first ever gold we have won in the mixed team badminton category.

India defeated three-time defending champion Malaysia to bag this gold and the credit entirely goes to the smashing performance by stalwarts Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth, Ashwini Ponnappa, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty. However, it was Saina Nehwal who hit the last nail and helped India script this iconic history.

First, the pair of Ashwini Ponnnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy claimed their victory against Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying with their gripping performance in the mixed doubles match.

In the following match, 25-year-old Kidambi Srikanth beat Lee Chong Wei by 21-17, 21-14.

However, things took a backseat when Malaysia's Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong overpowered Satwiksairaj and Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty in the men's doubles match. But, just like every cloud with a silver lining, Saina Nehwal came around and defeated Sonia Cheah Su Ya in the women's singles match and brought home the first-ever gold we have ever won in this category.

Twitter was flooded with congratulatory messages for the team and India's epic victory.
