    Transcript of Kulbhushan Jadhav?s second confessional statement 
    "I am Commander Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav. Number 41558 Zulu of the Indian Navy. I am a commissioned officer in the Indian Navy and my alias name was Hussain Mubarak Patel.

    And I was basically... I'd visited Karachi on two occasions in 2005 and 2006 for basic intelligence gathering on Naval installations and subsequent detail.
    Basically gathering information on the landing sites around Karachi and various naval vessels or whatever I could gather about the Navy.
    The RAW officials had started sniffing that the Modi government will be in power by 2014. So I was inducted and my services were handed over to Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
    And the aim was to see that all the activities around the Makran Coast and Karachi and Balochistan interior. Turbat and Quetta were to be organised and nicely coordinated.
    Subsequently, me along with Anil Kumar had a meeting with Alok Joshi, wherein the plans and the finalisation of the activities along the Makran Coast and Karachi were finalised.
    I was stationed in Chahbahar, the Iranian Port City under a fictitious name 'Hussain Mubarak Patel' and I was running a business there "Kaminda Trading company".
    It was a discreet non-embassy based operation exclusively meant to conduct meetings with Baloch insurgents and terrorists.
    The aim of these meetings was always to see that the aims and the targets of RAW to conduct the various terrorist activities within Balochistan are conveyed properly to the insurgents and any kinds of requirements of them are conveyed back to the RAW officials.
    My purpose of this time visit to Pakistan was to establish and meet the basic leadership of Baloch sub-nationals, the BLA or the BRA and establish and Infiltrate around 30 to 40 RAW operatives along the Makran Coast for Operations along with Baloch sub-nationals and miscreants or terrorists.
    The aim was to have RAW operatives on field so that they could facilitate and help the Baloch sub-nationals in carrying out precision targets to be carried out.
    Precision, I would say, sort of a military, sort of a connection to the entire operation.
    Balochistan doesn't have a movement on the sea, so the aim was to raise within the Baloch sub nationals a sea front, so that the activities could be properly coordinated from the sea side and subsequently taken on further inwards, may be Quetta or Turbat or maybe interiors of various places.
    The subsequent activities which were then handed over by RAW when I subsequently started working for Research and analysis wing, the main aim was focused to Balochistan and the Karachi region. The idea was to see to it that the sub nationals with in this region were facilitated and supported financially and with arms and ammunition, weapons and some kind of maybe man and material movement also across the coast. 
    So me being a naval officer I was given the task of seeing that how they could be landed across the Makran coast, between Gwadar, Jewani or whichever suitable points were there across this belt. And the main ideology beyond this was that the economic and the various activities which go along the CPEC region between Gwadar and China had to be distorted and disrupted and some destabilized so that the aim was to just basically raise the level of insurgency within Balochistan and the Karachi region. 
    Research and Analysis Wing through Mr Anil Kumar has been abetting and financing and sponsoring a lot of activities within Balochistan and Sindh. The entire Hundi and Hawala operations are undertaken from Delhi and Mumbai via Dubai into Pakistan and during one such important transaction was the 40,000 dollars which was transferred to Baloch sub Nationals via Dubai. Also the finances which are coming into Balochistan and Sindh for various anti-national activities are coming through consulates in Jalalabad and Kandhar and the Consulate in Zahidan. 
    These are very important consulates which are used by Research and Analysis Wing to transfer dollars into the Balochistan movement.
    And one such instance was where I was directly involved and I was observing the transaction was when 40,000 Dollars were recently transferred from India via Dubai to one such Baloch National operative within Pakistan.
    Research and Analysis Wing and Mr Anil Kumar on behalf of RAW had been sponsoring regularly the various terrorist activities within Pakistan. Especially Hazara Muslims, Shia Muslims who move around on pilgrimage between Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan were basically to be targeted and killed. They were already being done, it was being done but the level had to be raised to the very high level so that the movement completely stops.
    Then the targets on various workers of FWO who were conducting construction of various roads within Balochistan and the third major activity was the IED attacks which were being carried out by the Baloch sub nationals within Quetta, Turbat or various other cities of Balochistan.They were being directly sponsored by RAW.
    Mr Anil Kumar has been sponsoring sectarian violence across Sindh and Balochistan and also sponsoring various assassinations across this same region so that instability or some kind of fear is set into the mindsets of the people of Pakistan, and in one such process SSP Chaudhary was assassinated. This was a direct mention by Mr Anil Kumar to me.
    The various financing which subsequently happened for the TTP and various other Afghan anti Pakistani terrorist groups led to the attack by TTP on one of the Mehran Naval Bases in which a lot of damage was cost to the Pakistani Navy. Other sort of radar installation attack, the Sui pipeline gas attack, then attacks on civilian bus Stations where some I suppose Pakistani Nationals were being targeted by Sub Nationals and murdered and massacred so that a sort of disruption in the CPEC is done that was being funded and directly supported by Mr Anil Kumar. He wanted it to be raised to the next level so that complete disruption and complete stoppage of the Economic corridor between Gwadar and China is achieved.
    One of the operations which was being planned by RAW officials along with Baloch insurgents was a military style attack on Zahidan Pakistani consulate. The aim was to either attack it with a grenade or some kind of RPG or IED attack or then try to harm the consulate General or some kind of vicious attack on the Pakistani consulate in Zahidan. It was being militarily planned, the RAW officials were involved in Iran and the Baloch Sub Nationals who were supposed to carry out the attack or facilitate the entire process were being involved and I was well aware of the plan which was being conducted and how it was being planned.
    RAW was sponsoring the setting up of the modern website, a new website which was being already run through Nepal which the Balochistan movement was carrying on, on the Cyber world and the creation of the website, the previous maintenance of the already existing website was being handled by the Research and Analysis wing from Nepal, Kathmandu which was luring people from within Pakistan for various activities to be carried out in the future.
    This time while crossing over into Pakistan I travelled all the way from Chahbahar in a private Taxi along with Rakesh to the Iranian Pakistan border near Sarawan. From wherein I crossed into Pakistan along with Baloch Sub Nationals and after about an hour or so I was apprehended by the Pakistani authorities in Pakistan.
    Basically the movement into Pakistan for me was, I was on a visa and official visa in Iran and I was moving with my passports so I carried my passports with till the border almost so that if Iranian authorities or Iranian people who are about to check me or I am stopped or checked I should have a legitimate reason for movement with in Iran and my subsequent movement into Pakistan and then backwards. While I was not intending to having being caught so on my movement backwards again I would have had a legitimate reason to go about, With that passport with the legitimate visa of Iran.
    During my judicial proceedings which were held under the field General court martial, I was accorded a defense council by the officials here which were conducting the entire proceedings.
    Today I genuinely after the time having spent in Pakistan I feel very ashamed and I genuinely seek pardon of the acts and sins and crimes I have committed here against the Nation and the people of Pakistan."

    RAWALPINDI: Indian spy Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav has filed mercy petition to Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday, seeking forgiveness for his espionage, terrorist and subversive activities.

    In his plea, Commander Jadhav has admitted his involvement in espionage, terrorist and subversive activities in Pakistan and expressed remorse at the resultant loss of many precious innocent lives and extensive damage to property due to his actions. Seeking forgiveness for his actions he has requested the Chief of Army Staff to spare his life on compassionate grounds.
    Commander Jhadev had earlier appealed to the Military Appellate Court which was rejected. Under the law he is eligible to appeal for clemency to the COAS (which he has done)and if rejected, subsequently to the President of Pakistan.
    His second confessional video, in which he can be seen accepting his acts of terrorism and espionage is also released so that the world should know what India has done and continues to do against Pakistan.

    KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh AD Khawaja said on Thursday that the performance of police officers is being monitored, adding that those showing dereliction of duty would be removed from the office.

    The IGP Sindh was addressing a ceremony of police officers here, where he sent a warning to those present.
    AD Khawaja also ordered police to initiate a crackdown on street crimes, drug dens, and also on smuggled Irani petrol and diesel.
    The gathering included Karachi police?s officers such as DIGs, SSPs, DSPs, and SHOs.
    The IGP Sindh has been a victim of a tug of war between judicial orders and the Sindh government.
    On May 30, the Sindh High Court extended the stay order against the removal of the provincial police chief by the Sindh government.
    A notification issued by the Sindh government that replaced AD Khawaja with Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was suspended by the SHC on April 3.

    Khawaja was appointed as the IGP on March 13, 2016.

    KARACHI: Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Omar Shahid said on Thursday that the arrest of the escaped prisoners is the topmost task for the police.

    The SSP CTD in a press conference called the escape of the two prisoners a dangerous thing. The two were members of banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and managed to escape Karachi?s Central Jail on June 15.
    SSP Omar Shahid said that his department has expressed reservations over the jail?s security earlier too.
    He said that it would be requested to transfer the cases of the dangerous terrorists to military courts.
    The role of the central jail?s administration would also be investigated, said SSP CTD Shahid.
    He further said that more prisoners would be made a part of the investigation process regarding the prison break.
    The two under-trial prisoners, Sheikh Muhammad Arif Firon and Ahmed Khan Arif Manako, were present in the jail?s judicial complex for a hearing when they managed to escape, said an official.

    Following their escape, 12 police personnel, including the jail superintendent and his deputy, were arrested at the behest of the Sindh law and prisons minister. A case was also registered against them in the New Town Police Station.
    The two suspects who escaped, Sheikh Muhammad and Ahmed Khan Arif Manako, were arrested by the CTD in 2013 over their involvement in dozens of targeted killings.

    LONDON: England cricketing great Andrew Flintoff is to try his hand at a different type of live performance -- starring in a musical, it was revealed on Thursday.
    The 39-year-old former England skipper -- who played 79 Tests and was man of the series in the epic English success in the 2005 Ashes series -- is taking the lead role of Kevin Chadwick in ´Fat Friends´ on a tour of England.
    The curtain will go up on the show -- which was originally a hit TV show written by award winning writer Kay Mellor -- in Leeds, Yorkshire, in November.
    Flintoff -- who is affectionately known as ´Freddie´ -- has also appeared in Mellor´s TV drama ´Love, Lies and Records´ due to screen on BBC.
    "Having had the pleasure of recently working on an episode of Kay´s latest TV series, it´s great to have the opportunity to work with her again," said Flintoff.
    "I loved the TV series and think Fat Friends - The Musical, is going to give people a great night out. I´m really looking forward to it."
    For Mellor, there were no second thoughts about casting Flintoff.
    "I was introduced to Freddie at one of our TV casting sessions -- it was clear to me that he could leave his cricket bat behind, embody a character, and understand the drama. It was a no-brainer... he got the part," she said.
    "Then, as we were talking through Fat Friends - The Musical, I wondered if Freddie could sing.
    "I am thrilled and delighted that Freddie is able to join us for our run at Leeds and part of the tour as well... I can´t wait to start working with the super talented cast we´ve got so far."

    COLOMBO: Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga faced an investigation Thursday after he compared a government minister to a monkey following criticism that the country´s cricketers were too fat.
    Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekera said he ordered an inquiry after Malinga lambasted him for questioning the endurance of Sri Lankan players following their failure to reach the Champions Trophy semi-finals.
    "He is now under investigation for making statements to the media in breach of his contract with Sri Lanka Cricket (board)," Jayasekera told AFP.
    "In my criticism of the appalling fitness levels of our players, I did not name Malinga, but he has chosen to put the hat on and attack me publicly."
    Malinga told a television network the minister knew nothing about cricket.
    "I don´t care about criticism from those who are simply warming chairs," he said. "What does a monkey know about a parrot´s nesting hollow? This is like a monkey getting into a parrot´s nest and talking about it."
    Jayasekera said some Sri Lankan players had pot bellies that stopped them moving and that often they could not hold catches.
    Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed was twice dropped in his side´s Champions Trophy win over Sri Lanka. Both catches were off the bowling of Malinga, who ended up with just one wicket for 52 runs.
    Jayasekera said he ordered a fitness test on the team after their return from England last week and found that most of them carry too much fat.
    "The typical body fat amounts for a cricketer should be about 16 percent, but most of our players have over 25 percent," Jayasekera said.
    "I want the results analysed and in future no one will be included in a national squad if they are above 16 percent."
    Malinga, 33, was a surprise choice for the Sri Lanka squad as he has played little international cricket in the previous 18 months because of injury.
    Just prior to the Champions Trophy, however, Malinga won the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) title with the Mumbai Indians.
    Malinga was the only player excused from Sri Lanka´s high altitude training camp before the Champions Trophy, because of the IPL campaign.
    "They improve their fitness level just to bowl four overs at the IPL," Jayasekera said, referring to Malinga. "These guys are not interested in playing for the country, they play for the IPL because of the money they get."
    Jayasekera said he was also making fitness a key requirement for other sports before an athlete can participate in overseas tournaments.

    ?After Kohli?s catch was dropped [by Azhar], I said that do not worry, God will help us and compensate for it. And you saw that right off the very next ball, he was out.?
    Hasan Ali, the winner of the Golden Ball and Player of the Tournament, discussed his famous celebration style on the show.

    LONDON: Afghanistan and Ireland are poised to become the 11th and 12th members of Test match cricket´s close-knit club on Thursday when the sport´s governing body meets in London.
    It´s been almost two decades since Bangladesh were the last country to be granted Test status but International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive David Richardson believes both Afghanistan and Ireland have impressive credentials.
    "It´s never wise to try and make a call too early, but certainly the applications of both are very well founded," said Richardson.
    "They both, on the face of it, meet the majority, if not all, of the full member criteria that has been set.
    "I´m optimistic that they´ll be given serious consideration to have every chance of succeeding."
    No longer rank minnows, Asghar Stanikzai´s Afghanistan are up for consideration following their victories over Ireland in the Intercontinental Cup in March.
    Unlike the sport´s other major players, Afghanistan was never a colony of the British Empire.
    Instead many Afghans´ first contact with the sport took place during the 1980s and 1990s, as refugees fled to Pakistan to escape the Soviet invasion.
    Cricket struggled under the Taliban, who viewed sports as a distraction from religious duties.
    But it has become hugely popular in the country since the regime was toppled in a US-led invasion in 2001.
    Recent successes, particularly in last year´s ICC World Twenty20, have further raised the country´s profile.
    Spinners Rashid Khan, who idolises former Pakistan international Shahid Afridi, and Mohammad Nabi both made their mark in the Indian Premier League.
    Khan was the sixth-highest wicket-taker in his debut IPL with 17 scalps, and the pair broke into the top 10 of the ICC one-day international bowling rankings during the just-concluded tour of the West Indies.
    ´Best decision of the century´
    Their former batting coach and former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif said a place among the Test nations was well deserved and would benefit them in the future.
    "Afghanistan deserves Test status because their performances are good. Once they get to play Tests, more and more players will come forward just like happened in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh -- Kenya suffered because they were not awarded," he told AFP.
    "I think it will be the ICC´s best decision of the century."
    Last year, Afghanistan´s national team shifted its base from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Noida, Delhi, while India´s former batsman Lalchand Rajput replaced Pakistan´s Inzamam-ul-Haq as their national team coach.
    There are nevertheless questions about how well Afghanistan and Ireland will do in the game´s longest format.
    Bangladesh famously floundered for their first decade while New Zealand took 26 years to win their first Test.
    Ireland, meanwhile, have beaten the West Indies, England and Pakistan in their time.
    However, standing on the verge of Test status is a far cry from the years when the highlight of Ireland´s season was the visit for a one-off match by the touring Test team to England or, in alternate years, a two-day game at Lord´s against MCC, invariably made up of Minor County players.
    The old Irish Cricket Union was founded in 1855 -- Phoenix Cricket Club, founded 25 years earlier, is one of the oldest in the British Isles -- but it was not until more than a century later that the Ireland team first made the rest of the cricket world take notice.
    On July 2 1969, Ireland dismissed the West Indies for just 25 at Sion Mills in a match recorded for all time by television.
    It has gone into folklore that the West Indies, who had flown in the night before, after the conclusion of the Lord´s Test, had immediately availed themselves of some typically generous Irish hospitality.
    But whatever the truth of that, they were bundled out in 25.3 remarkable overs.
    Ireland knocked off the runs for the loss of one wicket, but with the game over so quickly, the teams agreed to play on and West Indies even had a second innings, reaching a more respectable 78 for four, after Ireland had declared on 125 for eight.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Uzma Kardar disrupted State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb?s press conference by walking up to the dais and asking her to leave.

    Uzma Kardar remarked that Marriyum had been speaking since the past hour. ?We also have to speak,? she said.
    Following this, PTI workers insisted that Marriyum Aurangzeb leave. Soon, police officers intervened to stop the incident from escalating and dispersed the PTI workers.
    After the commotion, Aurangzeb chided the PTI workers for their behaviour. ?What kind of behaviour is this? They [PTI workers] are always attacking everyone.?
    If the conversation is not what they want, then they start complaining, she said.

    ISLAMABAD: State Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb criticised on Thursday Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan for failing to submit a reply in the foreign funding case against his party in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

    ?What happened at the ECP today? PTI must give a reply,? she said while holding a press conference.  
    She remarked that Imran took money from "Jews and Indians" to fund his party. If that is not the case then why hasn?t the PTI chief submitted his reply to ECP? she asked, adding ?Imran Khan is used to playing by his own rules now.?
    ?Whenever Imran Khan is questioned, he doesn?t even appear before the court,? she said, adding ?this should end now.? Imran Khan is a liar and involved in money laundering, she alleged.
    She also said that the ruling Sharif family appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which was formed after the Supreme Court?s verdict in the Panama case, only because of Nawaz Sharif. The name of Shehbaz Sharif and Captain Safdar?s did not even come up in the Panama case and they appeared as witnesses. She criticised calling them accused in the case. 
    Nawaz Sharif presented his entire family in front of the court just for the nation, she added
    She remarked that the case is just related to off-shore companies, however, the opposition have made the case to be one of corruption.
    The JIT is investigating the private businesses owned by the Sharif family, she stressed.

Photo: prideofpakistan.com TEHRAN: Pakistan?s Ambassador to Iran, Asif Ali Durrani, in an interview with Iranian Student?s News Agency (ISNA), said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor will benefit both Gwadar and Chabahar ports.
    When asked about the Gwadar and Chabahar ports, Durrani commented that both the ports complement each other and that the goal of the China-Pakistan corridor is to promote regional trade in South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East.
    He also said that Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project will be completed within the next two years. The project was halted due to the sanctions imposed on Iran, preventing investment in the region, but since sanctions had been lifted the work is in progress.
    Durrani stressed that Pakistan will refrain from taking sides in a dispute between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
    According to Durrani, Pakistan wants ?unity and peace? among Muslim countries and seeks to fight terrorism and extremist activities. He hopes that the neighbouring countries will resolve their problems through negotiations.
    ?It was in this spirit that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Iran last year with the view to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia. We sincerely hope that the two brotherly countries would be able to resolve their outstanding differences through dialogue.?
    He further said, ?We do not take sides on issues which may cause disunity between brothers. Our participation in the alliance is consistent with our policy of achieving unity among the Muslim countries.?
    He remarked that an agreement had been made between President Rouhani and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to improve economic relations and increase bilateral trade by $5 billion in the next five years. According to statistics issued by the Iranian government, bilateral trade had seen a surge of 28% in 2016-17.

    Somali fashion star has made the history as the first hijab-wearing model on the cover of the top American women?s beauty magazine Allure.

    Halima Aden who is only 19 years old, flaunted Nike?s high-performance hijab on the cover of the July issue with a caption which says ?This Is American Beauty?.

    In an interview to the magazine, Halima said, "I have much more to offer than my physical appearance, and a hijab protects me against ?You?re too skinny,? ?You?re too thick,? ?Look at her hips,? ?Look at her thigh gap.? I don?t have to worry about that.

    ?Every little girl looks up to her mom so much ? that?s your first hero,? she added.
    Halima Aden was born to Somali parents at a refugee camp in Kenya and made history in 2016 as the first hijab-wearing contestant in the Miss Minnesota Beauty Pageant.

    Halima Aden is also a student at the St. Cloud State University and has signed to international model management firm IMG Models.

    Photo: Geo News screen grab LASHKAR GAH: A powerful car bomb on Thursday struck a bank in Afghanistan´s Lashkar Gah city when civilian and military government employees were queuing to withdraw their salaries, causing multiple casualties, officials said.

    At least 50 wounded people were rushed to hospital, government spokesman Omar Zwak told AFP, with another official warning of multiple fatalities.
    No group has claimed responsibility for the latest in a series of brazen attacks during the month of Ramadan, but it comes as the Taliban ramp up their annual spring offensive.
    The insurgents control large swathes of Helmand province, of which Lashkar Gah is the capital.
    "Around 12 noon a car bomb exploded at the entrance of New Kabul Bank," Salam Afghan, police spokesman in the city, told AFP.
    "It happened at a time when civilians and officials had lined up outside the bank to collect their salaries."
    Washington is soon expected to announce an increase in the US military deployment to bolster Afghan forces, who are struggling to contain the Taliban insurgency. American military commanders in Afghanistan have requested thousands of extra boots on the ground.
    US troops in Afghanistan now number about 8,400, and there are another 5,000 from NATO allies, a far cry from the US presence of more than 100,000 six years ago. They mainly serve as trainers and advisers.
    The Afghan conflict is the longest in American history, with US-led forces at war since the Taliban regime was ousted in 2001.

    Zayn was interrogated twice when he traveled to the US as a member of One Direction. 
    Recently, in an interview, Zayn Malik opened up about the incident and said that he was subjected to interrogation when he traveled to the US in the beginning.
    The Pillowtalk star said he had to undergo questioning and "further processing" due to his name and ethnicity as he was raised as a Muslim.
    "The first time I came to America, I had three security checks before I got on the plane; first they said that I?d been randomly selected, and then they said it was something to do with my name, it was flagging something on their system" Zayn Malik said.
    "Then when I landed, it was like a movie. They kept me there for three hours, questioning me about all kinds of crazy stuff. I was 17, my first time in America, jet-lagged off the plane, confused. The same thing happened the next time too" he added.

    Photo: AFP  Instant messaging service WhatsApp?s voice-calling service, earlier blocked in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was operative early Thursday according to local media reports.
    WhatsApp groups and social media pages were abuzz with the new development that left the expatriate community in UAE elated.
    In November last year, WhatsApp officially rolled out the video-calling service, but mobile phone users in UAE could not access the service due to regulatory compliance.
    Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, including video calling, were restricted in the UAE, with country's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) allowing only licensed providers to offer such services.
    Numerous Dubai and Sharjah-based users confirmed that the voice-calling feature was working fine on both WiFi connection and mobile data since Thursday morning, the Khaleej Times reported.
    Authorities are yet to confirm the new development.
    According to a TRA statement, "VoIP services are still a prerogative of the licensed providers who reserve the right to provide such services through their networks. Companies wishing to offer such services must coordinate with the licensed telecom providers in the UAE."

    She remarked that Taliban ?safe havens? are inside Afghanistan not outside, given that large areas of that country are now under the Taliban?s control. 
    She reasoned that the resilience of the insurgency in Afghanistan cannot be explained away by convenient references to external "safe havens" or ?support centres?.
    Pakistan, she asserted, is committed to not allow its territory to be used for terrorism against other countries. Pakistan's successive military operations are eliminating all terrorist and militant groups from its tribal territory bordering Afghanistan.
    She told the council that Pakistan is ?implementing border controls, including the fencing and monitoring of vulnerable sections of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.?
    Both the countries, she stated, have suffered at the hands of terrorism and should cooperate with one another in order to eliminate terrorism from the region.

    The department sprang into action to crack down on sweetmeat vendors in the province ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
    Nearly 240 kilogrammes (kg) of ready-to-sell sweetmeat and 400 kilogrammes of inferior quality ingredients were disposed of, PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal.

    Hearing a contempt of court case against the federal government on Thursday, Justice Athar Minallah also suspended the government?s second notification over the issue, released on June 6.
    A Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party worker on Monday had filed a contempt petition against the federal government over the non-implementation of an earlier IHC order setting aside the placing of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the Frequency Allocation Board and Public Procurement Regulatory Authority under the relevant ministries.
    Muhammad Nawaz had petitioned the court seeking contempt proceedings against Fawad and Cabinet Division Joint Secretary Dr Iram Anjum Khan for not implementing the court?s previous decision.
    On Thursday, the judge questioned when the approval from the Council of Common Interests (CCI), if any, was taken for reissuing the notification. He further observed that the notification was reissued after playing with words following its striking down by the court earlier.
    Justice Minallah also ordered the production of the summary which led to the government reissuing the notification after the first one was declared illegal by the court.
    In March this year, Justice Minallah had annulled the government?s Dec, 2016 notification which placed the regulatory bodies under the ministries whose work they were supposed to oversee.
    The petition filed on Monday stated that the federal government reissued the notification on June 6 by playing with words without any decision, approval or CCI consent.
    ?No decision or approval of the CCI has been obtained by the respondents as is required under the Constitution and the order of this court,? the petition stated.
    The petitioner prayed the court to initiate proceedings against the respondents, suspend operation and effect of the ?contemptuous notification? till the conclusion of the case and punish the ?delinquent? officials.
    He had also requested the court to issue a compliance order of its earlier judgment in its true letter and spirit.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will not tolerate any drone attacks on its territory, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria on Thursday that while referring to an Iranian drone shot down in the country's airspace on Wednesday.

    The UAV was shot down in Balochistan's Panjgur District along the Pak-Iran border. "The drone was hit by Pakistan Air Force jets as it was unidentified and flying around three to four kilometres inside Pakistani territory," a statement issued by the ministry had stated. 
    Drone attacks are against Pakistan's integrity, remarked Zakaria. 
    During the weekly media briefing, Zakaria also said that Pakistan gives importance to its relation with the United States. Pakistan wants to work with the new US administration, he reiterated.
    "Pakistan will not let its land be used against other countries.? Operations against terrorists seek to serve our national interest, he explained.  
    On relations with Afghanistan, he said that ?we will welcome any delegation from Afghanistan visiting Pakistan.? Two-way visits will help strengthening Pakistan-Afghanistan ties, he added. 
    He stressed that Pakistan and China are working to restore peace in Afghanistan. "Border management with Afghanistan is essential," he said, adding that border management will help control the movement of terrorists.

    WELLINGTON: New Zealand wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi has retired from international cricket but will continue to play in franchise-based Twenty20 tournaments around the world, the country´s cricket board said on Thursday.
    The 36-year-old played four one-day internationals and three T20 matches for Australia in 2008 and 2009 before switching his allegiance back to his native New Zealand in 2013. 
    Ronchi went on to play four tests, 85 ODIs and 32 T20 matches in total with this month´s Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh his last for the Black Caps.
    "It was a dream come true," Ronchi said in a statement released by New Zealand Cricket. "I can´t think of a better time to have been involved with New Zealand cricket.
    "From the 2015 World Cup campaign, through to the overseas tours of that time and some amazing games and series, it´s been a genuine highlight for me."
    New Zealand coach Mike Hesson called Ronchi, known for his ability to score briskly with the bat, the perfect team man.
    "We´ll remember Luke fondly for the energy he created in the field and his selfless attitude towards the team," Hesson said.
    "He was always prepared to play a role for the greater good of the team; to do what was required even if that risked sacrificing his wicket.
    "Luke was one of the best glovemen going around and I think that´s often overlooked in a game increasingly dominated by batting and run-scoring. He was a very skilful wicket-keeper, and a very destructive batsman."
    Ronchi´s sole one-day international century, 170 not out off 99 deliveries, came against Sri Lanka in 2015. His highest test score of 88 was made on his debut against England in Leeds the same year.

    Some of the biggest names in British music, including Stormzy, Robbie Williams and The Who, released a charity single on Wednesday to raise funds for people affected by the fire at a tower block in west London.
    The song, a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water", also features performances from Leona Lewis, James Blunt and a large choir made up of local people, some of whom survived the blaze.
    A total of 79 people died in the fire, which swept through the 24-storey Grenfell Tower on June 14th. Many people are still unaccounted for and authorities have suggested that the death toll will continue to rise as rescue workers continue to search.
    The single is an initiative of pop impresario and TV talent show judge Simon Cowell.
    In a departure from the original version of the song, Cowell's version opens with grime artist Stormzy rapping: "That could have been me up there / waving my white plain tee up there", a reference to people trapped in the blaze.
    Reaction to the song on social media was generally positive, with Twitter user Sarah Styles saying the song was "absolutely beautiful", while user Amy Elizabeth said the song left her "covered in goosebumps".
    The song was made available for sale and radio play on Wednesday and Cowell tweeted that a video would premiere on British television that evening. All proceeds from the song are to go to the London Community Foundation.

    England players shake hands with South Africa players at the end of the match/AFP SOUTHAMPTON: Jonny Bairstow made a dashing 60 not out as England thrashed South Africa by nine wickets in the first Twenty20 international at Southampton on Wednesday.
    England, set just 143 to win, reached their target for the loss of only one wicket with 33 balls left.
    Opener Alex Hales was 47 not out, his unbroken second-wicket stand with Bairstow worth 98 runs.
    But the foundations for a victory which put England 1-0 up in this three-match series were laid by their bowlers.
    They restricted South Africa to 142 for three after Proteas skipper AB de Villiers won the toss.
    De Villiers made 65 not out and Farhaan Behardien an unbeaten 64 in an innings where fast bowler Mark Wood took two for 36.
    The fourth-wicket pair´s unbroken partnership was worth 110 runs after they came together with South Africa 32 for three -- which represented a recovery after they had slumped to seven for two.
    But South Africa´s total still looked short of a competitive score on what is usually a good batting pitch.
    Spinners Liam Dawson (four overs for 17 runs) and debutant Mason Crane (four overs for 24) both bowled tidily on their Hampshire home ground.
    ´Lost our way´
    "The result doesn´t look good for us," de Villiers told Sky Sports.
    "We lost our way at the start, had to rebuild and we were 20-30 runs short in the end," the star batsman added after a match where South Africa failed to get the boost they were looking for after their first-round exit at the Champions Trophy one-day international tournament.

    England new-ball duo David Willey and Wood both struck with their opening deliveries.
    Left-arm paceman´s Willey´s had Jon-Jon Smuts out for a golden duck when he pushed forward tentatively and played on.
    Wood then followed suit when Reeza Hendricks pulled his first ball to a leaping Willey at mid-wicket.
    Left-hander David Miller fell for nine when caught behind off Wood.
    De Villiers, stepping well outside off stump, slog-swept Willey to complete a 49-ball fifty.
    Behardien pulled Wood for four for his fifty and next ball hit him straight back over his head for six but it was too little too late.
    Roy, returning to England duty, was in good touch.
    After managing just 51 runs in eight one-day international innings so far this season, Roy made 92 for Surrey in their One-Day Cup semi-final win over Worcestershire last week.
    On Wednesday, he struck three sixes before, on 28, he was lbw to medium-pacer Andile Phehlukwayo after missing an extravagant reverse-sweep
    Bairstow, however, kept the runs coming with sixes off leg-spinner Imran Tahir and debutant left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.
    South Africa´s day was summed up when Hales drove Tahir to long-on, only for Behardien to drop a routine catch with the ball going for four. Tahir´s next delivery was smashed for six by Hales.

    Photo: Reuters  Daesh militants on Wednesday blew up the Grand al-Nuri Mosque of Mosul and its famous leaning minaret, Iraq's military said in a statement, as Iraqi forces seeking to expel the group from the city closed in on the site.
    It was from this medieval mosque three years ago that the militants' leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared a self-styled "caliphate" spanning parts of Syria and Iraq.
    ''Blowing up the al-Hadba minaret and the al-Nuri mosque amounts to an official acknowledgement of defeat,'' Iraqi Prime Minister said in a brief comment on his website.
    The Iraqis called the 150-foot (45-metre) leaning minaret Al-Hadba, or "the hunchback." Baghdadi's black flag had flown over it since June 2014.
    Daesh's Amaq news agency accused American aircraft of destroying the mosque, a claim swiftly denied by the US-led coalition fighting the militant group.
    "We did not strike in that area," coalition spokesman US Air Force Colonel John Dorrian told Reuters by telephone.
    "The responsibility of this devastation is laid firmly at the doorstep of Daesh," US Army Major General Joseph Martin, commander of the coalition's ground component, said in a statement.
    The media office for Iraq's military distributed a picture taken from the air that appeared to show the mosque and minaret largely flattened and reduced to rubble among the small houses of the Old City, the historic district where the militants are under siege.
    A video seen on social media showed the minaret collapsing vertically in a belch of sand and dust, as a woman lamented in the background, "The minaret, the minaret, the minaret."
    The mosque was destroyed as Iraq's elite Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) units, which have been battling their way through Mosul's Old City, got within 50 meters (164 feet) of it, according to an Iraqi military statement.
    An Iraqi military spokesman gave the timing of the explosion as 9:35PM (1835 GMT).
    "This is a crime against the people of Mosul and all of Iraq, and is an example of why this brutal organisation must be annihilated," said US Major General Martin.
    Iraqi forces said earlier on Wednesday that they had started a push toward the mosque.
    ''This will not prevent us from removing them, no, killing them not removing them, inside the Old City,'' Lieutenant General Abdul Ghani al-Assadi, senior CTS commander in Mosul, said in a video posted over a messaging app.
    The forces on Tuesday had encircled the group's stronghold in the Old City, the last district under Daesh control in Mosul.
