  1. Date nights during this ongoing pandemic can sometimes be tricky if distance is the dampener. While going out for movies is a luxury we all have forgotten and also crave, thanks to the magic of the internet, it is still possible to catch a movie with bae while you both are miles apart. Here are some romantic Punjabi movies which are easy to understand and also easily available on OTT platforms for the next date night: 1. SufnaThe last 2 years have seen Punjabi star Ammy Virk rise up high in terms of his music, selection of movies and his highly anticipated Bollywood debut in 83. Sufna is a very simple, sweet love story between two people struggling with their own circumstances and dreaming of being with each other. A really good pick for that movie date night. 2. Laung LaachiIf you haven’t watched the movie then you obviously have heard this song and danced to it at some point of time last year. Starring the gorgeous Neeru Bajwa in the lead role, this is a simple tale of a woman and a man trying to make sense of life after an arranged marriage gets them together. The husband tries to woo his wife and help her chase all her dreams. This movie is a good reminder that dreams that are fulfilled together, bring two people closer than ever. 3. QismatI like to call it the Punjabi version of Rockstar , or something on those lines at least. The fact that a super hit song inspired the makers to plan and produce a whole movie is proof enough that besides being a wonderfully made movie, the songs of this film are something that need to be on your playlist. 4. AfsarAnother innocent tale of two people trying to get together in a world full of people with cruel intentions. This is an old-school romance movie and hence it is perfect to watch it with bae when all you want is some mush with that tub of popcorn. 5. Manje BistreThis two part romcom stars Gippy Grewal and Sonam Bajwa in the lead roles. The romantic tale follows a man who falls for his sister’s friend while she is already engaged to another man. A lot of confusion follows as love blossoms in between. View the full article
  2. The 'Dhoti' is one of those rare items of clothing, which has often been grossly misunderstood. While most men today start sweating at the thought of walking around in a dhoti, let alone having to drape it themselves, a more versatile or comfortable piece of men's clothing does not exist - there, we said it. © Eros International Thankfully, films have often made an honest attempt to change this sartorial mindset. Let's take a look at 13 such songs that perfectly captured the humble dhoti in all its rustic, desi glory. 13. Tose Naina Lage - AnwarEven though the bright yellow dhoti in this classic piece of music has less to do with fashion and more to do with the sartorial expression of love by the blue skinned Lord Krishna, the sheer beauty and grace of the visuals make us want to drape one too, every time we see it. 12. Sarsariya - Mohenjo DaroEven though this period piece didn't do much at the box office, Hrithik's unique way of draping the dhoti here is pure goals. The super tight frills and the almost harem-pant like fitting would be a hit on the ramps, even today. 11. Dhivara/Khoya Hain - Baahubali - The BeginningDon't we all remember being absolutely mesmerized and even slightly terrified looking at Prabhas's stunts in this surreal, almost dream-like sequence? He did all of that, wearing a dhoti. Just imagine. 10. Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan - Hum Dil De Chuke SanamEven though it's very difficult to focus on anything else other than Aishwarya's dreamy eyes and her unearthly beauty in this video, Salman Khan is wearing a black silk dhoti here which is a sartorial power move. Ah, the good old Bhansali school of aesthetics! 9. Chalak Chalak - DevdasSRK and Jaggu Dada both are drunk in this song, but the stylistic abandon with which they are keeping up with the gracefully seductive Madhuri says a lot about how comfortable and classy the dhoti can be, if you know how to handle it right. 8. Baawre - Luck By ChanceNow, even though Hrithik isn't strictly wearing a dhoti here but an amalgamation between a dhoti and ultra loose Harem pants, we just had to include this here because of the sheer glamour Mr Roshan brings with those lowers. Just look at them! Only he can do this, and no one else. 7. Pacha Bottasi/Panchhi Bole - Baahubali - The BeginningThis song sort of got famous because of all the wrong reasons, remember the controversy? Keeping that unfortunate aspect aside, we couldn't help but marvel at Prabhas's super colourful dhotis. They need to come back! 6. Dhak Dhak Karne Laga - BetaMadhuri Dixit was rechristened as the 'Dhak Dhak Girl' post this song - such was her grace, poise, and sheer power when it comes to making a seductive statement on screen. However, people almost didn't notice Anil Kapoor's super classy black dhoti because of Madhuri's fiery appeal in her orange saree that took over the screen. We noticed though, Mr Kapoor! 5. Nagada Sang Dhol - Goliyon Ki Rasleela - Ram LeelaWhile Deepika Padukone established herself as a dancer par excellence with this song, Ranveer added another feather in his already overloaded cap by proving that when it comes to traditional experimental clothing, he is the king that rules them all. 4. Chaand Chhupa Baadal Mein - Hum Dil De Chuke SanamMaking a simple terrace top look like a dream garden, only with the help of aesthetics, is something only Mr Bhansali can pull off. While Aishwarya looked out of this world in her periwinkle blue ensemble, Salman was equally classy in his all white dhoti-kurta. Why do we not dress like that more often? 3. Morey Piya - DevdasThis song takes place inside Sumitra's head, as she dreams about her daughter Paro finally getting to unite with the love of her life, Devdas. While Kirron Kher delivered a performance that no other actress can even think of imitating, SRK and Aish looked straight out of a fairy tale. SRK's simple white dhoti was perfection - as far as the surrealism of this song goes. 2. Aayo Re Sakhi - WaterThis song is an underrated gem that not a lot of people even know about. John Abraham looking super sharp in a well-tailored coat paired with a dhoti - while getting wet in the rain and enjoying himself. Need we say more? 1. Ang Laga De - Goliyon Ki Rasleela - Ram LeelaTo put it succinctly, this rightfully occupies the top spot because Ranveer Singh with that ripped and bronzed physique looks like a seductive sartorial God in that flimsy, flowy white dhoti. There simply does not exist a more sensual outfit. Take notes, boys! What other songs would you add to this list? View the full article
  3. Clutter breakers are the need of the hour in this rapidly evolving Hindi film industry. Moreover, with filmmakers choosing to stay away from formulaic storytelling, some talented actors are choosing films with irreverent themes. With the advent of OTT platforms, democratisation of content, and production houses deciding to back up films with good storyline, we are now seeing a new version of stardom not dependent on numbers but content. This change is absolutely the need of the hour and the viewers have also started giving more importance to good content over other factors. Here we have curated a list of talented actors including Sayani Gupta, Vinay Pathak and more who have opted to play unconventional roles time and again, and proved that a dynamic story is what the audience really wants to watch. 1. Sayani Gupta © Sayani Gupta/Yoodlee Films Sayani Gupta is one such promising actor who has proved her mettle in many out-of-the box films. She held her own in Shonali Bose’s Margarita With A Straw opposite Kalki Koechlin, Leena Yadav’s feminist narrative Parched, Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15, and a much-discussed Amazon original series, Four More Shots Please! Not to forget mainstream films like Jolly LLB 2, Fan, and Baar Baar Dekho. But her breakout film is the recently released Axone. Helmed by filmmaker Nicholas Kharkongor, this Netflix film is produced by Yoodlee Films. It not just makes important points about racism and cultural stereotypes in society but also gives Sayani enough room to be a feisty protagonist with agency. What makes the film even more important is that it is arguably the first mainstream Hindi film based on the life of an ordinary North-eastern citizen who deals with subtle and overt racism every day. The movie premiered at the BFI London Film Festival, debuted in India at the 21st Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival last year, and also stars Dolly Ahluwalia, Vinay Pathak, Tenzin Dalha as well as Northeastern actors like Lin Laishram, Asenla Jamir, and Lanuakum Ao. 2. Jitendra Kumar © Jitendra Kumar/Yoodlee Films Jitendra Kumar is another unusual success story who had no prior connection with films. An IIT Kharagpur alumnus, he started exploring theatre, began to trend in The Viral Fever (TVF) shows like Kota Factory, the acclaimed Amazon original Panchayat, and played a significant role opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in the comedy Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. His latest release that got him rave reviews everywhere was Apurva Dhar Badgaiyann’s Netflix release, Chaman Bahaar. The film has Jitendra portraying the aspirations and forbidden desires of a small-time 'paan-waala' in love with a young girl. The film garnered mixed reviews because of its disconcerting subject but his performance was acclaimed widely by the audience as well as the critics. 3. Aparshakti Khurana © Aparshakti Khurana/Yoodlee Films One more actor who has carved a niche in the industry with his choice of roles is Aparshakti Khurana. With the 2019 film Kanpuriye directed by Ashish Aryan, he has finally come full circle. Khurana has been a lawyer, an RJ, a TV host, and has played supporting roles in many blockbusters like Dangal, Badrinath ki Dulhaniya, Stree, and Street Dancer. It is in Kanpuriye (streaming on Hotstar) though, that he finally played a lead role along with Divyendu Sharma, and Harsh Mayar. His character Jaitun Mishra is a mix of a Basu Chatterjee’s naive heroes and Anurag Kashyap’s cynical, worldly-wise protagonists and he does this fine balancing act seamlessly. 4. Rasika Dugal © Rasika Dugal/Yoodlee Films Then there is Rasika Dugal who is fast becoming the face of alternative storytelling on the big screen and OTT platforms with powerful performances in films like Kshay, Qissa, and Manto as well as Amazon favourites Mirzapur and Made in Heaven. Her role in Hotstar’s Out of Love and performance in the Netflix series Delhi Crime also impressed the critics as well as her fans. This mathematics graduate and FTII alumnus has risen to this point in her career through a long journey. In 2018, she played the role of helpless wife and mother in the National Award winning film - Hamid. Directed by Aijaz Khan, the story showcased not only shone light on the deeply problematic politics of war in strife ridden Kashmir, but also gave Rasika Dugal a chance to showcase her range of acting talent. This moving adaptation of the play, Phone No. 786 by Mohd. Amin Bhat went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Urdu at the 66th National Film Awards. 5. Vinay Pathak © Vinay pathak/Yoodlee Films Vinay Pathak - another stalwart who has done a wide variety of work in film, Tv and theatre, has delighted us always with his choice of unusual roles. Starting as a Channel V VJ, he went on to etch memorable performances in films like Khosla Ka Ghosla and even pulled off leading roles in offbeat offerings like Dasavidaniya, Bheja Fry, and Gaur Hari Dastaan. In Chappad Phaad Ke, an incisive film (the first Hotstar original film) directed by Sameer Hemant Joshi, Vinay Pathak again displays his versatility. With great insight, he plays Sharad Gupchup, a protagonist emblematic of middle-class ambivalence towards money and moral uprightness. View the full article
  4. Whenever people are talking about Priyanka Chopra, they end up using the words second-hand embarrassment more often than not. A lot of people agree that she crosses over to the cringe territory with a lot of what she does and it has been amplified so much more since she is one of the biggest Indian representation on an international level. From making statements that make no sense to doing stuff that makes us shake our heads in disappointment, she has made almost every desi person say that 'we don't claim her'. The desi girl has had so many cringe-inducing moments, but nothing can beat these five. Let's get some second-hand embarrassment together, shall we? 1. Photoshopping herself in a picture View this post on InstagramI’m always with you @nickjonas 😜😍Congratulations @jonasbrothers! I’m so proud of all of you! #suckerA post shared by (@priyankachopra) Nick Jonas awkwardly standing alone in the middle was hilarious and yes, Priyanka was just trying to be funny and a good wife by photoshopping herself in there. The intention was good but how are you going to photoshop yourself in such a way that you're whiter than actual white people? Like always, this was followed by a lot of trolling, and rightfully so. 2. The truly eerie vibe of this videoPriyanka Chopra shows her appreciation for first responders by clapping from her balcony during coronavirus lockdown. pic.twitter.com/f6wViUmlAw — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) March 24, 2020 She tried to celebrate Janta Curfew back in March, something that was happening in India, on the balcony of her mansion that is clearly not in India and also seems to be miles away from any civilization. The entire video is so bizarre and has such haunted vibes that it was mocked even in the USA. I kind of feel bad for Nick who was probably recording this video. 3. "Shexy shexy shaari"Happy 5-Month Anniversary to this embarrassment from Priyanka Chopra pic.twitter.com/H90sLSANui — Laraib (@ThandiLaash) November 15, 2019 Now this is something that haunts not just me, but so many other people. We really need a support group to deal with Priyanka saying "shexy shexy shaari". Why would you subject us to this atrocity, PeeCee? What have we ever done to you? As soon as I think I’ve found peace of mind I remember priyanka chopra saying “shexy shexy Shari” and then I get secondhand embarrassment & wanna scream at the top of my lungs all over again — sukhi (@mairanotmaria2) July 2, 2019 4. Her take on India rockDostana is Rock Music. DDLJ is a Superhero movie. Fashion is Horror. pic.twitter.com/vtcc18StNK — Old School Mausa (@AdvancedMaushi) September 18, 2015 What do you suggest to Bono when he asks about Indian Rock music? She has the answer. "The two men I found amazing were Bono and Bruce Springsteen. Bono asked me if there was rock in India. I consider myself a good brand ambassador and immediately sent him Rockstar, Rock On and Dostana as he wanted one of my films too." Just everything about this is too much to handle. 5. "Girl, don’t yell. We’re all here for love" The best for last, this started a revolution online of sorts. Remember the little phrase "girl, don’t yell. We’re all here for love" and how it was all over Twitter last year? The entire incident was too embarrassing on Priyanka's part as she just dismissed someone asking a question, and told them to not yell. 3. You claim you're "here for love" but elsewhere, you're NOT for love. That's the whole point. You're only HERE for love. Positivity culture is such bullshit and nearly always reeks of privilege and dismissal. 4. Patriotism and warmongering are two completely different things. — Imaan Sheikh (@sheikhimaan) August 11, 2019 View the full article
  5. For as long as one can imagine, human beings have always been smitten by the idea of pushing their limits. We might have evolved over the years, but putting our bodies to the ultimate test is a fad that continues to capture everyone's imagination. Today, we live in a world where maintaining fitness is no longer an option, it's a necessity. But, the parameters of ascertaining good fitness levels are vague. In the world of social media dependency, people are more concerned about attaining bulging biceps and sporting chiselled abs. But, fitness isn't about the exterior, it's all interior: strength, stamina and endurance. In a bid to get more clarity on the true virtues of fitness, MensXP got in touch with Kieren D'souza. The renowned ultramarathon runner first grabbed limelight after becoming the first Indian to qualify and, thereon, finish the Spartathlon - a 246-km footrace from Athens to Sparta held annually in Greece - in 2016. © Nivea An endurance athlete for almost 10 years now, Kieren, earlier this month, completed a rigorous Nivea Men 42k trek to the famed Deo Tibba peak in Manali. Competing in his first ultrarun since the lockdown, Kieren completed the trek, a run covering more than 126 km which usually takes 5 days to cover, in an unbelievable time of just 18 hours. "So I started to run from Mall road in Manali. I went up to Sethan where the Hampta Pass trek starts and crossed Hampta Pass into Lahaul & Spiti. I then climbed Rohtang pass and ran down back to Mall road in Manali. It was a new experience of my running a long project route and I completely loved it," Kieren said. "I ran a lot of the Hampta pass route with my head torch off as it was a beautiful full moon night. Crossing two 4000m-plus passes in one day on my two legs was a completely amazing experience. I took the wrong trail coming down from Hampta Pass and that just added to the adventure. While running down Rohtang, a lot of my friends joined me along the way running beside me and at the finish, so many people were waiting for me to come to the finish line which was all such a beautiful experience," he added. While it sure seems like a walk in the park, the astronomical results Kieren is able to deliver are derived on the back of rigorous training and hard work. "I like to train very specifically for a race and spend a good 10-12 weeks training for my focused races. It is usually a lot of running, 6 days a week about 8-10 runs in a week (2 runs most days), my lower mileage weeks are around 80-100km and higher mileage weeks around 150km. Along with this, I focus on a regular strength training and mobility work as well," he revealed. © Nivea For someone who took up endurance running after being captivated by the sheer simplicity of the sport, Kieren stunned everyone after completing his first 100k run (ultra) at a tender age of just 19 years. Since then, there has been no turning back for the champion runner who went on to surprise people with his stamina and fitness. So what's Kieren's secret? "My diet is pretty simple really. I like to eat local and seasonal things as much as possible. I also like to add a lot of variety to the foods I eat. I try my best to keep junk food at a minimum. Over this, I also take regular multivitamins, zinc, magnesium supplements etc. I do a lot of bodyweight work and mobility work as well. I do also tend to lift weights a few times in the month. Exercises like lunges, squats, L-sits planks and variations of these are a staple," Kieren opened the lid on his diet and training regime. Staying hydrated is one the key things that can affect one's race and Kieren pays special attention to it. "With all these years of running, I have come to a point where I understand my body fairly well to plan my hydration. I tend to have regular sips of water every 30mins when it is cold or pleasant weather and when it gets a bit hotter, I tend to drink more water at least 500ml an hour," he disclosed. © Nivea When it comes to strategising, Kieren focusses on pacing and maintaining good form during a race. "Pacing is a very important factor in endurance racing. The way I like to do it is to pace smartly and in my comfort zone in the first 50-60 per cent of the race before I start to push hard to finish strong. Good form allows you to run economically and spend less energy which allows you to run strong," Kieren said. Revealing the five essentials one must have for a race, Kieren said: "Since I run in the mountains a lot, a waterproof jacket is a must, sunglasses, gels, Nivea Men 42k Deo is a must before I start my run to keep me odour free throughout and the Nivea men 42k Shower gel after my run to help me feel fresh and clean. This always heightens the experience of racing". A man who has made a career out of his passion for running and travelling, Kieren highly recommends endurance running to others. "I would love to see more and more people accessing the amazing outdoors and running is the easiest way to get started. I would suggest people start small and do things around where they live and also work consistently. The outdoors is best enjoyed with friends," he signed off. View the full article
  6. The Chakkiliyan community from the southern state of Kerala, for centuries, have been cutting their own hair. In the last couple of decades, they began travelling more than 40 kilometres to neighbouring villages for this basic service of getting their hair cut at a parlour. This is because, by virtue of belonging to a scheduled caste, they were not allowed to access the only two barbershops within the Vattavada village that practised caste-based discrimination. © iStock Now, a government-run barbershop has opened this week in the village for the purpose of not excluding any community from consuming the grooming services. “People belonging to all social segments are visiting the barbershop and no one is abstaining from its services,” VM Mariyappam, a locally elected politician, told The News Minute. © iStock Moreover, the village body has also gone ahead to cancel the license of the two existing barbershops for denying entry to members of the Chakkiliyan community. “It [discrimination] is based on a 400-year old culture set by Tipu Sultan [18th-century ruler of the kingdom of Mysore in south India]. If a barber was cutting the hair of the king or his ministers, he was prohibited from cutting anyone else's hair,” said S Rajendran, the lawmaker who inaugurated the salon. © iStock The social ostracisation of the community was first bought to the lawmaker's attention three years ago. Therefore, the local administration started the process of launching a government-run community barbershop that would not adhere to any caste-based discrimination. “We shut down two other barbershops in the area that were resisting the change. I think now the community will not face these issues,” he added. © iStock Even though practising caste-based discrimination is a punishable offence under Article 14 of the Indian constitution, in 2017, there were more than 5,000 offences against Dalits across the country. Many such incidents also go unreported. The centuries-old caste system based on hierarchies still has prevalent practices in the village despite the law that needs to end. They have also been barred from places of worship water wells, farms, and community kitchens. “Children are conditioned from a young age to keep separate glasses or utensils for Dalits. Those who don’t question this practice, end up propagating it,” said Ashok Das, editor of Dalit Dastak, a magazine and YouTube channel covering caste-based oppression and struggles. © iStock In fact, not being able to access basic services like salons, community kitchens, wells, places of worships hinges the quality of the community. Interventions like a community-supported government salon count as proactive steps in fighting those discriminations. We hope more such steps are taken soon. View the full article
  7. With the digital world entering into our lives, we have every comfort in our desired spaces, and entertainment sources aren’t left either. Thanks to the advent of these OTT platforms, we can watch movies on our laptops or home theatre at our own comfort. Well, OTT has opened doors for more talent, and actors or filmmakers have more room to express their vision through their skills. It can’t be denied that OTT platforms are slowly replacing the concept of watching a movie only in the theaters. Thanks to OTT, a pantheon of actors has gained recognition and for a few old artists, it has become a place to rejuvenate their careers. Here are 6 men from Bollywood who were getting forgotten but OTT platforms gave them the second chance to prove their mettle and it turned out to be the best shot for these actors. Saif Ali Khan It was in 2018 when Saif got huge success because of the web series Sacred Games. Well, Sacred Games changed the entire game for Saif and the status of the OTT platforms in the country. Saif’s career was declining with every commercial flop that he was giving and it was Netflix's Sacred Games that got him back on track. Abhishek Bachchan It’s undeniable that Bachchan is a great actor but he failed to make a mark as a brilliant actor in the industry as the audience didn’t accept him or welcomed him in the way he should have been. This year, he starred in the web series Breathe: Into The Shadows and it has opened the shut doors again for the actor. Bobby Deol He recently had success with Netflix’s original film Class of 83 and MX Player’s web series Aashram. His career too was on a deteriorating stage and he was almost getting forgotten but OTT platforms have given him the chance to be remembered by people for his acting skills and not his DJ act. Vivek Oberoi Vivek might have been someone that people talked about in the 2000's but his presence faded after giving a few great films. It was Inside Edge that changed things for him and he was back again. Sharman Joshi Sharman has films like 3 Idiots and Rang De Basanti to his credit but his career completely fizzled out. It was Alt Balaji’s web series Baarish that reminded people of him and his brilliance in acting. Amit Sadh Amit Sadh might be a great actor but he never got his due till Breathe happened and thanks to the series, he was back in the business. Who do you like the most from our list and think that he is the star of the OTT platforms? View the full article
  8. We’ve all seen James Bond and other similar spy movies that either have some nifty gadget or a tool that has been disguised as a real-world object to listen on their targets. Well, many of these gadgets in movies are fictional however that does not mean plenty of them weren’t invented and used by spies during the cold war era. Espionage is risky work and in order to protect yourself from getting caught; you need device gadgets that can help you on spying or at times even kill your target. Here are some of the spy gadgets that actually exist in real life and were used by spies a long time ago: 1. Shoe With Heel Transmitter © Flickr_Mike Fitzpatrick Western diplomats in the 1960s and 70s would operate in eastern Europe and be cautious of what they would buy from the local market. In fact, diplomats would avoid buying shoes and clothes from the local store to avoid having something planted in them. They would instead get their clothes vial mail order which some secret service in Romania used to their advantage. They would secretly install a transmitter inside the heel of shows by intercepting mail at the post office. A recording device in the heel of a show was once discovered during a routine room sweep that revealed a signal. However, the signal disappeared when all the diplomats left the room. 2. A Pen That Could Kill © aaron-burden--unsplash Alexander Dmitrievich Ogorodnik was stationed in Moscow when he was spying for the Americans at the Soviet Foreign Ministry. However, he requested a lethal pill that he could in the event he was ever caught by the KBG. He then received a pen by the CIA that had a secret compartment containing the lethal pill. Ogorodnik was arrested by the KGB after someone betrayed him and he offered to write a full confession during his interrogation. However, when he was handed the pen containing the pill, Ogorodnik bit on it and died soon after. 3. An Umbrella That Could Kill © Reddit_u_NinetiethPercentile A Bulgarian secret service agent used an umbrella to kill dissident Georgi Markov in 1978. The umbrella was modified to inject poison into a larger with a press of the trigger. This particular umbrella contained a ricin pellet, KBG’s preferred position for assassinations. The poison cannot be traced and a room full of deadly umbrellas like this one was discovered in Bulgaria in 1999. 4. Tree Stump Bug © Spy Museum.org Sometimes you need to spy on your targets without them even noticing and this Tree Stump Bug was used by American to spy on a Soviet airbase. The stump was solar-powered which meant it did not require any risky battery changes. The bug intercepted communication signals from the airbase, beamed them to a satellite which was then sent to a site in the United States. The bug was discovered by the KBG eventually and a replica of it sits in the spy museum in Washington. 5. Dog Doo Transmitter © Wikipedia Commons Yes, that does look like dog shit but it is actually hollowed out to store important messages. It would be used as a dead-drop so that case officers and sources could communicate with each other without actually being seen together. People often like to stay away from Dog doo however there was always the risk of it being thrown off or discovered accidentally. A similar version of this also had sensors that could detect enemies from up to 1,000 feet away. The antenna would transmit a warning to the CIA via radio signals in case it sensed a vibration. 6. Robot Fish © CIA A robot fish was developed by the CIA to collect underwater signals from Russian crafts. The fish was given the name “Charlie” and could be controlled by a radio remote. The fish resembles a catfish and contains a microphone in the body. What’s impressive is that the robot fish has its own propulsion system in the tail to navigate around enemy vessels. 9. The ‘Time Travel’ genre can be really interesting to experiment with, and when done correctly, can lead to the audience asking questions they had never even thought about in their lives. Broadly speaking, there are three kinds of movies based on the idea of time-travel First category involves stories like Back To The Future and Looper that not only have certain uniqueness to the story but have also opened the gates to discussing the numerous paradoxes that ‘time travel’ can give birth to Then there are movies that stretch the possibilities of time travel such as Avengers: Endgame that received a lot of criticism for leaving behind a lot of loopholes in terms of how moving across time worked in their universe. And finally, the third category consists of those films that not only made a mockery of the concept but abused it to such an extent that even Thanos would want to kill himself. We are here to talk about this third category, especially from the Hindi film industry: 1. Love Story 2050 You’d think that the movie makers would be commended on trying something as gutsy as time travel but Harman Baweja’s Love Story 2050 left no scope, whatsoever. The movie shows how a man who loses his loved one ends up going FORWARD IN TIME, where he meets the reincarnation of his to-be dead wife and brings her back in time to live with him “happily ever after”. There is also a demi-god in the film for some reason and Priyanka Chopra has red hair because she’s from the future… It’s really something special. 2. Fun2shh Oh god, they dragged the great Paresh Rawal into this as well, didn’t they? The complete name of this film is Fun2shh… Dudes in the 10th Century and they don’t even try showing a time travelling machine. Vikram, Ajay and John D'Souza crash into a random wall and travel back to the 10th century where they have to deal with Emperor Babushah and his Indian soldiers dressed in Roman-gladiator uniforms. Of course they fall in love with the Emperor’s daughters and bring them to the present before their father takes them back to their time. Vikram and Ajay then find the exact replicas of the two ladies and start running after them shouting “yeh toh wohi hai” as the movie ends. 3. Action Replayy “Inspired” by Back to the Future, this Akshay Kumar film tells the story of Bunty who travels back in time to figure out the reason behind the failed marriage of his parents (Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai) and try to make them fall in love back when they were younger. After succeeding in his master plan Bunty returns to his present and surely his parents are deeply in love with each other. The movie, as you can relate, ended up being a big disaster for the producers, got an IMDB rating of 4.2/10, and critics called it “mind-numbingly dull” and to be in “a very different league of disaster”. 4. Baar Baar Dekho Heavily inspired by Adam Sandler’s Click (which wasn’t a big hit either), Baar Baar Dekho shows Jai (Siddhart Malhotra) time travelling through his life, experiencing the various mistakes that he has committed over the years, leading to an unhappy life, a broken marriage and a lot of self-loathing. It also consists of the easiest expositional escape in which Jai wakes up realising whatever he had witnessed was just a dream and makes things right with his girlfriend, Diya (Katrina Kaif). It left a sour taste in the mouths of the critics who called the leading characters “cardboard” and said that the two actors lacked the “emotional range” required to pull off a movie as unorthodox as this. The only good thing about this movie was its songs, which were fantastic, TBH. View the full article

  11. I don't even remember the last time there was an original song in a Bollywood movie. (Okay yes, this is an exaggeration, but there are way too many remixes and not enough originality.) Yet again, an iconic song has been remade for an upcoming movie and people don't know how to feel about it. The song Hasina Pagal Deewani has left people divided. On one hand, people are liking Kiara Advani and she's looking great in the video, but on the other hand, everyone is simply done with remixes of old songs being used in movies now. Well, we all know the reputation of T-Series when it comes to stuff like this, so no surprises there. Another burning question people had about the video - why the hell are they eating their clothes? Extremely valid. And, if we're comparing videos, the original couldn't be more opposite of this. While people are actually excited for Kiara Advani's role in the upcoming movie Indoo Ki Jawani, the remake question still stands. 12. US President Donald Trump often says things that confuse people and make them wonder if he really knows nothing or just pretends to be kinda dumb this way. His recent comment proved that he has no idea how forest fires work. In a new, illogical and unscientific claim, he said that ‘trees just explode’. When he was asked questions related to the US wildfires as to how they started, his reply shocked people across the globe. Great to be back in Philadelphia. Thank you Pennsylvania, see you again soon! #MAGA pic.twitter.com/l82C4TdlAE — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 15, 2020 He further supported his argument by saying that wildfires are caused by poor forest maintenance which makes them more combustible. He said, "There has to be strong forest management. With regard to the forests, when trees fall down after a short period of time, about 18 months, they become very dry. They become really like a match stick. They just explode." Forest fires across California, Oregon, and Washington burnt over five million acres this year and forced thousands of people to leave their homes. The towns have been completely ruined by infernos and have pumped out noxious fumes that have polluted the air for days blocking the Sun and making it extremely difficult to breathe. 13. Bollywood is standing divided after Kangana Ranaut spoke about the drug cartel in the industry. She went on to tweet that everyone should give a drug test and she is on a mission to clear the ‘gutter’ of Bollywood. With each passing day, we think it’s getting uglier and there seems to be no end to it. Now, Urmila Matondkar has joined the dialogue and has hit back at the Manikarnika actor with three strong and sensible statements. View this post on InstagramA post shared by (@urmilamatondkarofficial) In an interview with India Today, Urmila raised these valid points in response to Kangana's remarks about Bollywood 1. Urmila said that Kangana also needs to acknowledge the state of drugs in Himachal Pradesh. “The entire country is facing the menace of drugs. Does she (Kangana) know Himachal is the origin of drugs? She should start from her own state,” she told India Today. 2. She also questioned Kangana for always playing the victim card. She said, “If one person shouts all the time, doesn’t mean the person is speaking the truth. Some people want to crib all the time and play the victim card and if all that fails, they play the woman card.” View this post on InstagramA post shared by (@kanganaranaut) 3. She also questioned why Kangana was quiet all the time and why didn’t she give all the information she had to the police. “Why did this person who has been given Y-security from the taxpayers’ money didn’t give information about the drug nexus to the police?” she added. For the uninitiated, Kangana had claimed that she feels unsafe in Mumbai and even compared the city with Pakistan occupied Kashmir which created a big controversy. Do you agree with what Urmila said in her statement? Let us know in the comments section below. View the full article
  14. Whether he's on the field or off it, Virat Kohli has a knack for making headlines owing to his ever-growing popularity amongst fans across the globe. An outright winner, Kohli, just like his favourite footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, hates to lose. And, that's exactly why the Indian captain is always on his toes when it comes to improving himself to get an edge over his opponents. While there hasn't been much cricketing action due to the Coronavirus outbreak this year, Kohli is now raring to go in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is slated to begin from 19th September in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 31-year-old has been seen sweating it out in the training sessions and practice matches with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad to prepare for the upcoming season. Kicking off the IPL season with a football match has been a tradition at RCB for many years. It was all smiles in the camp when AB’s Cool Cats took on Virat’s Hot Dogs. ️ 🥅#PlayBold #IPL2020 #WeAreChallengers #Football pic.twitter.com/W8F8vmVocw — Royal Challengers Bangalore (@RCBTweets) September 8, 2020 If batting for countless hours in the nets to practice his shots wasn't enough to highlight his hard work and dedication to the sport, the fact that Kohli was recently seen setting the ground ablaze with his dribbling skills in an all-RCB football match, further shows his unmatched levels of fitness. But Kohli isn't just a hard-worker, he's also a smart worker. For a man who's responsible for sparking a fitness revolution in Team India, Kohli knows that giving your body the much-needed rest is just as important as pushing it to the limits in training. That's exactly why the RCB captain was recently seen chilling out in what looked like a much-needed pool session. View this post on InstagramA proper day at the pool yesterday 😃🏊A post shared by (@virat.kohli) Taking to Instagram, the Delhi cricketer shared a series of photographs from his team's pool session. In the first photo, Kohli was seen flaunting his chiselled abs while floating in the pool. In the second photo, Kohli was seen chilling with his RCB mates by the poolside. The last photo showed him having a gala time in what looked like some candid contest of pool volleyball. As soon as Kohli's post surfaced on social media, cricket fans took turns to give their views on it. While some wished all the luck to Kohli and RCB for the upcoming IPL season, others were just left in awe of the Indian skipper's admirable body. Amongst those who commented was Bollywood star Varun Dhawan who seemed to be smitten by Kohli's physique as he wrote 'ripped' on the post. View the full article
  15. Despite being one of the original eight teams to have been a part of the Indian Premier League since its inception, Kings XI Punjab has more or less been an average franchise. Even with a loaded roster over the years and some of the biggest names from Indian and international cricket such as Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, KL Rahul, Chris Gayle and Glenn Maxwell, they have somehow managed to not win even a single IPL trophy. In fact the only time the team made it to the final was in 2014 and were a part of the final four during the inaugural season of the league. Other than that, Punjab has been in the bottom half of the points table, letting their fans down one season after another. 17. Many people come to master the art of ‘laying low’ and getting away with no major episodes disrupting their peaceful lives. However, the same cannot be said for most public figures and celebrities. Things get especially interesting when politics is added to the mix and we have enough examples to prove our point. © Facebook Ravi Kishan One such personality who fits the bill is actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan, who is a popular celebrity in Bhojpuri as well as Hindi film industry. Almost three-decades-old in the entertainment industry, Ravi Kishan started his political career in 2014 by joining the Congress party to contest the 2014 General Elections. Come 2017, he cut his ties with Congress and jumped the gun to join the BJP. As luck would have it, Ravi ended up winning the 2019 General Elections and is now a Lok Sabha MP from Gorakhpur. However, it seems, ever since his move to politics, Ravi Kishan has landed himself in controversies more often than not. Let’s take a look at some of the recent controversies involving Ravi Kishan that made headlines. 1. The Bollywood Drug Cartel Comment © Facebook Ravi Kishan The most recent instance that’s made Ravi Kishan the talk of the town, especially in B-Town, is his comments on the impact of narcotics in Bollywood, when he recently raised the issue of the Hindi film’s industry’s alleged links with drug cartel in Lok Sabha. It didn’t sit well with a lot of people including the Shiv Sena and veteran Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan, who went out to raise the issue in the parliament yesterday and said that she was hurt and embarrassed that “that a Lok Sabha member from the industry (read: Ravi Kishan) spoke against the industry yesterday. "Jis thali mein khate hai, usi mein chhed kartein hai.” Jaya Bachchan’s comments have now pinched Ravi Kishan, who said that he didn’t expect a senior to make such comments. 2. India ‘Hindu Rashtra’ Comment © Facebook Ravi Kishan Last year, amid raging protests against the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill by the Union Cabinet, Ravi Kishan had courted major controversy when he made the error of calling India a "Hindu Rashtra" on the basis that the majority of the population belongs to this religious community. During an interview Ravi had said, “The population of Hindus is 100 crore, so obviously India is a Hindu Rashtra. There are so many Muslim and Christian countries, so it is amazing that we have a country called 'Bharat' to keep alive our culture.” Sure enough, people didn’t approve of him making that kind of overarching remark and called him out on it left, right and centre. As if that wasn’t enough, he even went on to add that “(CAB) Protesters have gone mad. Let them protest.” 3. When Ravi Kishan Landed In A ‘Sweat’ © Facebook Ravi Kishan Earlier this year, amid the mass migration of migrant workers due to the coronavirus lockdown, a video of Ravi Kishan went viral which was used by people to call him anti-poor and anti-labourer. The video showed Ravi inside a moving car where he could be heard scolding his colleagues for making him travel in an overcrowded car and forcing him ‘to smell the odour emanating from sweat’. When the video went viral, Ravi Kishan clarified that the video was from 2017 and his statement was being taken out of context and used against him. He went on to add that the conspiracy was hatched to put him in bad light and that the misunderstanding was created deliberately. 4. The Infamous Educational Qualification Controversy © Facebook Ravi Kishan Like is the case with most politicians across the board, where educational qualification isn’t up to par with a candidate’s portfolio, Ravi Kishan too found himself in a similar position. Ahead of the 2019 General Elections, a complaint against Ravi Kishan claimed that there was discrepancy in his educational declarations on his election affidavit. It claimed that during the 2014 elections, Ravi Kishan had claimed he was a Commerce graduate, however in the 2019 affidavit he declared himself as “intermediate pass”. Ravi Kishan was even faced with cancellation of his candidature over the allegations. Seems like controversies won’t let him live in peace. View the full article

  19. Having a patchy beard is not really a problem, in fact, it's quite like any other beard style, which can look great too. But if having a full and luscious beard is your goal, there are a variety of tips to help make it happen. However, there's no magic wand that can help you grow a crop of new hair out of the blue, but there are ways in which you can make your patchy beard look thick and appear fuller: 1. Let The Beard Grow © iStock When your beard is in a growing phase, it can appear patchy in the first few weeks. Give it time as it can be unruly but as time passes, the patches can start filling up, giving it a thicker appearance. 2. Use Heavier Stylers & Conditioners © iStock There are certain kinds of products that are suitable for a patchy beard as they help in giving it a fuller appearance. For example, beard oil can help keep it soft but if you use a beard balm, its nourishing and conditioning technique can take control over stubborn beard hair. These stylers help the longer strands in evening out over the patchy areas. Try it out. 3. Brush It © iStock A beard comb helps in distributing natural oil all over. You don't need to use it all day long, rather start with a morning routine. Brush your longer hair to cover the bald patches. Use a beard balm post this step to style them. Be gentle during this process, as you are trying to create an illusion here. A few swipes with a comb are enough to make this work. 4. If Nothing Works, Dye It © iStock If the patchy spots are way too visible, your next best bet is dyeing your facial fuzz. This might look like a far-fetched idea but it actually works. A colour remote to your natural hair colour can make your beard look thicker and denser. Match the colour of your whiskers with the dye or with the hair on your head. This trick creates a fuller look. 5. Pay Attention To Your Lines © iStock It's okay if you have a patchy beard or spots in between, you can still make the beard look even and in some cases, also thicker. Take the help of your barber or opt for a fade that helps with the patches. If you keep the lines of your beard neat and tidy around your cheekbones and jawline, your beard is sure to stand out with a fuller appearance. 6. Disguise Patchy Spots © YouTube/ James Welsh While there are a lot of makeup products now for men, there's one product called a beard filler pencil that will also do the trick of hiding the patchiness. So, if you have smaller spots, just take the pencil and start filling the area. This way you can disguise a patchy beard like a pro. 7. Try Minoxidil © iStock This may not be a natural remedy but it helps promote hair growth. By rubbing the solution on your beard follicles, the hair strengthens and thickens as well. But, before you take this into consideration, talk to your dermatologist, as the experts can tell you if using Minoxidil is the right way to go or not. Once prescribed, make a plan and supply your beard with the goodness of this remedy. View the full article

  21. Thrillers always make for an enticing watch when the mind is running amok, given how a good rom-com just does not cut it and watching comedy doesn't suffice either. Whenever I want to exercise my mind a little bit, watching a good thriller helps a lot. While shiny expensive cars, a big ensemble cast, magnificent locations definitely add on to the aesthetics, a good storyline doesn’t need all that jazz. Here are 5 underrated Bollywood thrillers which managed to keep us hooked more than any big-budget blockbuster did: 1. 13B Probably one of the most underrated movies of all time, this thriller is a must-watch if you still haven’t given yourself the opportunity to be enticed by a good story. © Big Pictures The film follows a family which moves into a new apartment but suddenly things start going awry. Watch it for the gripping scenes. Also, with a budget of merely Rs 6 crores, this film is insanely well-made. 2. Kahani Trust Vidya Balan to work and deliver excellence on any script she chooses. Badla You’d think that with Big B’s name attached to a movie, the budget would be crazy high. Not really. This crime thriller was the surprise package of 2019 which had no fancy backdrops, no extensive ensemble star cast and yet, managed to leave a strong mark on the minds of the audience. With a budget of Rs 10 crores, this film gets a little predictable in some parts but always leaves you wanting more, courtesy the strong performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu. 23. Growing facial hair can be challenging but once you take the plunge, there are several beard styles that await your attention. Beards have now become an asset for men and if you are in the mood for a quick trim and want to try styles that will transform your look, here are some of the most iconic beard styles of all times that you should give a shot, at least once. 1. The Corporate Beard © Getty Images If a thick or a full beard isn't your thing, a corporate beard with neat and sharp sides will be enough to go with your work wardrobe. If this is a beard style that inspires you, keep your cheeks and neckline clean and maintain the beard with beard oil. The best bit about this beard is that it accentuates your facial features. See exhibits Ben Affleck and George Clooney for example. 2. The Stubble © Instagram/John Legend_Fanclub We call stubble a classic and it is one of the many beard styles that has a rugged edge to it. To keep the good-looking stubble, you need to keep your cheekbones, area around the lips and hair on the jawline, sharp and well-trimmed. Since this beard style is much shorter, going for a moisturiser to prevent your skin from turning dry is a must. 3. The Beardstache © YouTube/flashback filmmaking We can't ever get over Henry Cavill's moustache from Mission: Impossible -Fallout. He sported it with stubble and the hybrid of these two styles is called a beardstache. To nail this look, grow a beard and trim the edges of your moustache a bit shorter than usual. Take scissors and carefully give it a shape. 4. The Full Beard © Instagram/Shahid.Kapoor.Fanclub If you are someone who doesn't reach out for a trimmer often, a full beard is a must-try for you then. The unkempt beard style isn't much of an exercise. Just a bit of maintenance, with a few drops of oil and beard comb, the untidy yet striking beard style can add suaveness to your look. 5. The Van Dyke © Instagram/Brad Pitt_Fanclub The simple moustache along with a goatee combo is probably not a beard style that all men would want to try but this one became quite iconic back in the day. This beard style is for men who aren't into growing a full beard or usually face patchy beard issues. This look is classy and requires minimum maintenance with a pair of scissors and the right amount of moisturising products. 6. The Full Goatee © Getty Images A goatee has been around forever and it has become a classic. While this beard style suits only a few face shapes, it still brings about a lot of difference to your whole look. It tends to look unflattering on round faces but can look good on angular faces. The style is versatile and all it needs is a trimmer to keep the edges well-groomed and sharp. 7. The7 Hollywoodian © Getty Images It's not a full beard, rather it's an extended goatee with a moustache and a chinstrap. There are no sideburns to this beard style, rather it defines your jawline without taking attention away from other facial features. The style is versatile and suits rounder short faces, giving it a longer appearance. But making it look Hollywoodian, is something only a pro can do and hence, do give the job to your barber to do the right fade for your facial hair. View the full article
  24. Ever wondered about a mouse having a drug addiction? Well, given that it's 2020 and nothing is impossible, of course, this happened. The term 'party animal' was proven to be quite literal in Canada, recently. Don’t believe us? Read on. Recently, a mouse was spotted leisurely munching on some cannabis leaves and was then captured lying flat on its back in New Brunswick, Canada. Growing a limited amount of cannabis is quite legal in Canada, and the mouse was apparently taking full advantage of that. The owner of the place, Collin Sullivan, noticed that his crop was being stolen. One day he finally caught the culprit. "For 2 days in a row I've caught this little pot-head taking leaves off of my plant and eating them until he passes out," he wrote on his Facebook post. "He's missing an ear so it may be self med for his PTSD but I still think its time for an intervention. I'll let him sleep this one off but when he wakes up he's getting a real stern talking to," Sullivan added. It definitely seems that the plant had quite an 'impact' on the mouse, and the man decided to keep an eye on him for a few days to check if there were ill-effects of the drug. Later, he took to his social media account again to share an update on the mouse's condition a day later: "So it's been a couple of rough days for our little baked buddy here and despite a bellyache and a wicked bad case of the munchies I think he'll make a full recovery. He's been weaned to 1 medium leaf per day and seems to be adjusting well. One day at a time, My Friend, One day at a time." Soon about a week later, the mouse was released back into the wild. The final update read: "On the Rodent to Redemption! After a long and desperate battle with addiction this little mouse has grinded up his struggle, picked out the seeds and stems and is ready to roll out... I may have been the one to open his cage but he was the one who set himself free. So long my friend, till we meet again." He also expressed as to how it was only for speed issues that he converted the bike to petrol. Just looking at the motorcycle, one can judge that Gaurav has managed to put together parts from various other vehicles. The front fork tires are made from a bicycle and the rear half seems from some other motorcycle. He has also put in rearview mirror and lights on the motorcycle. © Twitter/ANI We are not sure if the bike can do speedy rounds on the road but the bike is getting famous on the internet.
