Senate chief threatens to resign on disagreement over amendment
ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Friday threatened to resign after expressing his displeasure over the re-voting on an amendment to Article 60 of the Constitution.
According to reports, Law Minister Zahid Hamid requested the Senate chairman to give him permission to move a motion on re-voting on Article 60, in his response Rabbani said that he cannot give his permission over the matter, as the voting has already been done on the matter once.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party leader Farooq H Naik supported Hamid's plea.
Rabbani, in protest, handed the Senate proceedings over to Deputy Chairman Maulana Ghafoor Haideri and left for his chamber after threatening to resign from his position.
Members of the Senate from opposition and treasury benches visited Rabbani?s chamber to resolve the matter.
