The annual El Clasico clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona is arguably one of the biggest spectacles in the history of football. Tensions soar at an all-time high, emotions run wild and verbal exchanges between the players are all part of the package.

But when Barcelona's Jordi Alba picked on Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic during the 1-1 draw at Camp Nou, he possibly couldn't have imagined that his jibe would blow up in his face.

The Barca left-back told Kovacic: "You're an idiot, learn to speak Spanish, fool. Learn to speak first, you moron. Walk on, shut up, you're stupid."

While Alba's comments came in Spanish, he failed to realise that Kovacic was actually able to understand every word of his cowardly insults. 

Despite being at Madrid for just 18 months, Kovacic has already proven his proficiency in the local language. Apart from Spanish, Kovacic also speaks Italian which he picked during his stint with Inter Milan.

If that's not enough, he is not bad at English and German either. Then there's his native Croatian and he even began his Real Madrid presentation last summer by speaking in Catalan which was certainly enjoyed by the press in Catalonia.

Calling a man, who can speak five different languages, an idiot for not speaking Spanish is surely something Alba will find it hard to forget.
