Journos Accompanying Mamata Banerjee In London Were Caught Stealing Silverware At Official Dinner
I honestly don't know if I should laugh at this news or just die of embarrassment because it's that bizarre and unexpected.
While on an official visit to London, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, was accompanied by a bunch of senior editors who were handpicked by their organizations. But, even after being carefully selected for this important trip, some people still don't know how to behave, especially when they are kind of representing the country outside.
Basically, the journalists decided to just steal some of the silverware from the large table they were sitting at for an official dinner, stealthily putting all of that in their bags and purses. But, unlucky for them, the security staff at the luxury hotel they were staying at saw the whole incident through CCTV cameras. I can't even imagine the sticky situation the staff must have been β whether to keep quiet or embarrass the dignitary in whose honour the dinner had been thrown.

Okay, I'm leaning towards embarrassment now, because it doesn't really feel that funny now, but the second-hand embarrassment I'm getting right now is making me uncomfortable.
When the security informed the journos that their acts had been caught on camera, almost everyone put everything back, feeling completely mortified. However, there is always one person who never owns up to their mistakes and goes into denial mode immediately.
This one guy just insisted that he hadn't stolen anything, since he was not aware of the CCTV cameras. However, he confessed after the hotel threatened to call the police and was let off with a Β£50 fine.
His newspaper confirmed the incident to Outlook: ( https://www.outlookindia.com/website/story/senior-journalists-accompanying-mamata-to-london-steal-silver-cutlery-during-off/306637)βIt's true.β
A lot of people, including journalists, took to Twitter to condemn this shameful act, because let's be honest, it's so cringeworthy.
Can't rule it out.
This news is gold. Every paragraph of this article is gold. Gradually, these people are gonna steal all of London and bring it to Kolkata and declare it as London. https://t.co/SdwiU0mSBm
