78-Year-Old Grandma Deadlifting 102 Kilos In The Gym Is Putting Our Lazy Bums To Shame

What's the heaviest you can deadlift? Have you been slacking in your trips to the gym? While we twenty-somethings give ourselves excuses to skip gym every second day, here is a grandma well in her seventies lifting dead weights like they are balls of wool for knitting.

Shirley Webb, now 80 years old, left the most ripped of men gaping in astonishment when she set a new record for lifting 237 lbs (107.5 kilos) in Illinois at the ripe age of 78. Till a few years ago, the grandma was a regular senior citizen until a few years ago and the only exercise she was getting was mowing her lawn. She needed support even while climbing stairs.

Life changed after she began training in a gym and started lifting weights under the guidance of her trainer John Wright. In about 6 months, she could lift weights over 90 kilos. Instantly, she became a hit at her gym and younger gym-goers began looking up to her. This video of hers lifting 225 pounds (102 kilos), which has over 17 million views, has been putting even the most ripped of men to shame.

At 80 today, she can deadlift 260 pounds (approx 118 kilos) and holds 6 American records recognised by USAPL (USA Powerlifting). Shirley began at an age most people retire from life and resign themselves to their bed. While we make excuses for skipping leg day, this grandma is clearly winning at life.
