Last month, Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia was left disheartened after being ignored for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, which was eventually awarded to Virat Kohli and Mirabai Chanu. Punia had won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games earlier this year, but still, he was snubbed by the selection panel. Thus, there was no surprise to see a disappointed Punia threatening to take legal action against the move. For an athlete who worked day in and day out to eventually bring laurels for the country, Punia's misfortune to somehow miss out on India's highest sporting honour was quite shocking. The failure of a country to acknowledge the hardships of their sportspersons surely sets a bad precedent, often leaving the athletes demotivated. But, Punia is an athlete of a different breed - one that believes in responding where it matters the most. Channelling all his disappointment and aggression, Punia gave a befitting reply to the Indian selection committee - who ignored him for the Khel Ratna - with a historic performance in the 2018 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary. I was probably 5 or 6, when my dad bought me my first pair of denims. I was obsessed with them! Until I gained weight and they stopped fitting me! Is denim a pizza or a burger? I'd say, a Hawaiian pizza. I love wearing denims, as much as I love pineapples on my pizza. Maybe a crime, but it's all about your guilty pleasures sometimes. Ever had a smelly jeans moment? Never! I feel ambushed & get paranoid when my clothes start to stink. I'm a mess (lol). How often do you wash your jeans? The more you wash denim, the more it'll fade & loose it's appeal (especially black jeans). So, I wash them once in a month! Ever tried dungarees? I have! Love or hate skinny jeans? Absolutely adore skinny jeans! But I wear them only once in a blue moon. Your go-to denim outfit? In summers—tank tops & distressed denim shorts. I prefer wearing minimal clothing in the heat! Actually, I even go commando at times. In winter, my denim jacket is a must. Your go-to denim brand? Levi's & H&M. One unusual denim hack that only you know of? To fade-wash your jeans, take baking powder & apply it on the fabric. Now, grab a few sketch pens & add colour to your denim (in whichever way you'd like). After a while, run some Hydrogen Peroxide (readily available at pharmacies) all over the fabric, (with the help of a cotton dab) to arrive upon your DIY-ed pair of fade-wash jeans! Ever committed a denim faux pas? Multiple times! I visited a casino in Goa recently, wearing distressed jeans like a boss. In a matter of minutes, I had to head to buy myself an alternate pair of jeans, to gain entry inside. My jeans could be excessively distressed for their dress code, but in my defense—I was too drunk to notice. '30 days of Denim' is a social experiment of sorts, or in layman terms, the ultimate Denim guide, on how to inject your personality, and inherent sense of self into, say, a basic-ass pair of jeans. It fits like a dream and enhances the running stance. It’s light and looks pretty sturdy. But the interesting part here is that it can also double up as an ‘inside-the-gym’ shoe. It's been almost four years since Yusuf Pathan last featured for India on the international circuit. But the right-hander is back in the news for a unique feat he achieved after signing up for the Hong Kong League. The explosive batsman has become the first Indian male cricketer to sign for an overseas franchise-based T20 league and feels that it will be ideal preparation for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). "I firstly want to thank the BCCI and BCA for giving me the NOC. I am really excited about this venture and I think it will be good preparation for the IPL. That is why I signed for it," Yusuf, who plays for KKR in the IPL, revealed.
