  1. Indians are hailing airman Darshan Shah who is serving as an aerospace medical technician in the US Air Force for pursuing a religious waiver to allow him to wear tilak while in uniform. The waiver was approved after two years’ wait and the Hindu community in the US and India are expressing their gratitude towards the US military officials. © Twitter Shah is assigned to the 90th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron and has been seeking a waiver since he joined the military. He has been wearing the tilak chandlo (a red dot inside a U-shaped marking) on his forehead since he was in third grade and considers it as his identity. © Darshan Shah “I feel like that’s a part of who I am,” said Shah who is a follower of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottan Swaminarayan Sanstha or BAPS. “I’ve been through a lot, and I feel like my religion is helping me through a lot as well in life. When I wear this uniform, that’s an identity as well. But I feel like I have my full identity when I have the Tilak Chandlo on my forehead,” he added. © India Today Through an official communication of the 90th Missile Wing Chaplain Corps, he thanked the US Air Force for letting him wear the tilak. He said, “We live in a country where we’re allowed to practise and have faith in what we want. That’s what makes this such a great country. We’re not persecuted for what we follow or believe. If it wasn’t for the first amendment, I wouldn’t be able to do this at all. I wouldn’t be able to be who I am while being a military member or even a citizen.” Shah plans to become a commissioned officer and serve as a doctor once he completes his degree. He plans to serve in the Air Force for at least the next 20 years. © Airman 1st Class Charles Munoz Religious faith and sentiments can often conflict with the rules and regulations of an institution that requires people to be viewed equally and without discrimination. A very fresh incident happened in India where female Muslim students in Karnataka were asked to remove hijab since it was not a part of the uniform. This created a political and religious row and protests on the streets. © Indian Express A lot of people on social media couldn’t help but relate this incident to the Hijab row. They called out the irony about religious bias in “secular India” and hypocrisy of people who are showing gratitude but won’t support or worse oppose the hijab protest. The same NRI uncles will oppose hijab in schools in India, hypocrisy. — Abhijith (@twelverabhi) March 24, 2022So what is the issue with wearing hijab in Indian Universities? Pls explain. This right is justified but that right isn't? — SAhmed (@SA_Humanitarian) March 22, 2022Thank Ishwar Shah lives in a country which allows him so , In Hidustan he might be thrown out at school level for wearing Tilak. — Stoic (@SachinS56500785) March 23, 2022You all want freedom to practice Hinduism in America where you just settled a generation ago. But here in India muslims are outsider after centuries of living. — Tara khan (@TaraKhanS) March 23, 2022 How is it different? Both religious displays are a choice, both aren’t conventionally a part of the uniform and both incidents happened in secular and democratic countries. Maybe we can learn something from the US Air Force, along with thanking them for making a religious waiver for an Indian-origin Hindu. View the full article

  3. Harry will appear on the Intrepid warship, however, he will not be allowed to wear his military uniform
  4. Nothing escapes the hawk-eyed netizens/fashion police who notice the tiniest sartorial sins on screen. It has happened multiple times that costume designers and filmmakers have goofed up in making the costumes and outfits of the characters in the movie, which were either historically inaccurate, culturally inappropriate or simply weird enough to irk fans. © Bhansali Productions From the wrong military uniforms to controversial outfits and accessories worn by actors, fashion in films have ended up outraging fans and fashion freaks alike. © Zee Studios Here are all the times costumes in movies sparked controversies: 1. Royally Exposed Midriff In Padmaavat © Bhansali Productions Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat was accused by the Karni Sena and Rajput caste organisations of portraying their queen Padmavati in a bad light and tarnishing her image. One controversy also surrounded the popular song 'Ghoomar', where some said a woman of her stature would never dance in front of people like that. Her ghagra-choli with exposed midriff was also edited and concealed, lest anyone found it to be “unbecoming” of the character. 2. The Case Of Wrong Uniform In Rustom © Sandeep Unnithan Many Bollywood movies are guilty of making goof ups with military uniforms and Akshay Kumar’s Rustom is also one of them. Akshay plays a naval officer and his uniform is all flawed and the sheer lack of research is to be blamed for that. From epaulettes facing the wrong direction to two medals of Kargil war 1999 (the movie is set in 1959) there is plenty wrong with the navy uniform donned by Kumar. 3. Saree, Not Saree In Bharat © T-Series Something that irked fans more than Selmon Bhoi’s song, ‘Slow Motion’ in Bharat was the thing (we don’t know what to call it) worn by Disha Patani. It was claimed to be a saree but desis were adamant that it wasn’t even close to the traditional attire they knew of. She wore a yellow chiffon fabric around her waist and twisted the end into a rope style pallu that went over her shoulder. If it was a saree, they should be sorry. 4. The Belt With The ‘Kirpan’ In Dishoom © Eros International In the song ‘Sau Tarah Ke’ Jacqueline Fernandez is seen dancing in a white dress and a belt around her waist which has a ‘kirpan’ (a knife which is among the 5 articles of faith in Sikhism). This was probably supposed to be a fashion accessory but ended up offending the entire Sikh community who demanded the removal of the song, citing cultural appropriation. The ‘kirpan’ was edited out, while the belt stayed. 5. Vicky Kaushal’s Badges In Sam Bahadur © Instagram/Vicky Kaushal Another uniform mistake was pointed out by a retired Indian Army officer as soon as Vicky Kaushal dropped the first glimpse of his upcoming movie where he is playing the field Marshal of India, Sam Manekshaw. He said, “Vicky Kaushal...is wearing wrong colour badges of rank. Sam was a Gurkha, never wore brass, always black badges.” The movie isn’t released yet and people are hoping the filmmakers make the correction before it hits the screen. View the full article

  11. Farhan Akhtar has time and again proved that he's not just a great actor but also an impeccable dresser. In fact, his laidback, functional sense of style has been a source of inspiration for many over the years. Farhan was last seen in the film, The Sky Is Pink and is now commencing projects like Toofan and Don 3, both of which are scheduled to hit the theatres next year. © Viral Bhayani Before the pandemic hit, the actor would be seen every now and then in inspiration-worthy outfits. From walking the ramp with Shibani Dandekar to twinning with her at the airport, he loves dipping his toes in exciting trends as well. © Viral Bhayani Case in point, recently he was seen stepping out of his car in a rather interesting outfit. Take a look at what he was wearing here: © Viral Bhayani He was seen wearing a jacket with the logo 'Todun Taak' which could possibly be a reference to the song that goes by the same name by Johny Rawat. Underneath the jacket, he was wearing a neon green t-shirt. He completed the look with velcro sneakers with an orange swoosh from Nike. These sneakers also had blue and white colourways. With white being the dominant colour, the sneakers were reminiscent of school shoes that we all wore as kids. © Viral Bhayani The velcros were attached to these shoes instead of laces as it would be tough for kids to tie knots back then. This is perhaps why most kids preferred velcro sneakers over the ones with laces. Coming back to Farhan Akhtar, he was also seen wearing tie-up shorts, another silhouette that takes us back to our childhood. This is perhaps why we think his outfit was a tribute to his school uniform. For Farhan Akhtar's next film, Toofan, the actor is going to return to his buffed-up self as first seen in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. We can't wait for the film to release next year. View the full article
  12. Siddhant Chaturvedi isn't exactly a sneakerhead when compared to the rest of his brethren from the B-town. As opposed to most Bollywood celebs who have often been seen wearing some of the most flamboyant and unhinged sneakers ever made, Siddhant has much subtler preferences and poised taste when it comes to footwear. © Instagram/siddhantchaturvedi That being said, he does know how to make a statement or two, even with some really basic sneakers. © Viral Bhayani At the premiere of Deepika Padukone and our January 2020 cover star, Vikrant Massey's upcoming film, Chapaak, Siddhant was spotted wearing one of the coolest and most understated pairs of chunky white sneakers. Well to be honest, they kind of looked like a pair of sneakers that children wear to their schools on PT days, which make them even cooler. © Viral Bhayani First, let's get to the rest of his outfit. Siddhant is wearing a rather simple and laidback salamander orange crewneck sweatshirt from Jack & Jones, and rather sombre and classic pair of denim jeans from Levi's. The slim-fitting denim and the sweatshirt look rather dope on him and further add to the boy-next-door charm that the actor has. © Viral Bhayani As for his accessories, Siddhant's decision to keep it simple is actually a good one. When you've got an outfit as basic as this, you don't need to put on every watch, bracelet, and wristband that you've ever owned. A simple and tastefully made watch is sufficient. © Viral Bhayani Finally, coming to the sneakers themselves, they are a pair from Skechers, and legit look like one of those pairs of sneakers that students wear to their PT days. © Viral Bhayani That being said, the sneakers, with their chunky soles, and black and white lace loops do look cool, and make for a really hipster-looking pair of dad-sneakers. This just goes on to show how normcore has become the new norm. © Viral Bhayani All we'll say is that Siddhant does make a compelling case for dressing down for a grand event. Hats off, man, take a bow. View the full article
