Virat Kohli Fumes In Anger After The Animated Lungi Celebration In Centurion

After missing out in the first Test, Virat Kohli silenced his critics and carried the baton for his side in the first innings with a brilliant knock of 153 runs during the second Test against South Africa in Centurion. With the Indian cricket team desperately seeking a win to level the three-match series, their batting unit - which has failed miserably so far - was expected to rise to the occasion.

However, what eventually unfolded in the second innings was far from the kind of performance you'd expect from the world no. 1 Test side. Chasing a target of 287 runs, India once again had a forgetful start to their innings, losing both their openers - Murali Vijay (9) and KL Rahul (4) - for a mere 16 runs.

And, the onus was once again on the Indian captain who walked out in the middle to partner Cheteshwar Pujara in the final session of Day 4. Given Kohli's performance in the first innings, the Delhi lad was expected to steady the chase for the visitors and see through the day ensuring India doesn't lose any more wickets.

But, a rampant South African debutant had other plans - the ones that were going to leave Kohli, Team India and their fans absolutely devastated. On the final delivery of the 16th over, Lungi Ngidi got one to nip back that trapped Kohli right in front of the stumps. The Indian skipper's decision to go for a review went in vain as he was hit in line.

If Kohli's dismissal wasn't enough, the animated send-off from Ngidi baffled the Indian captain. As the South African players waited for the decision to be made by the third umpire, Kohli had started walking back. When the giant screen at the venue showed the replay and confirmed the on-field decision would stay, Ngidi could not hide his joy.

The paceman, looking at his team's dressing room, celebrated by punching the air. He was over the moon to have got the big wicket of Kohli. However, the Indian batsman, as he slowly walked back to the pavilion did not like the youngster's way of giving him a send-off. He turned back and uttered few words under the helmet and carried on to the dressing room.

Clearly, the Indian batting mainstay wasn't happy. But, going by Kohli's exploits in the series where he himself was seen giving send-offs to the South African batsmen, it was arguably one of those rare moments when the aggressive Indian cricketer got the taste of his own medicine - only this time by a rookie who was later seen blushing on camera.

Soon after Kohli's dismissal, while former Indian players and fans expressed their disappointment, the South African supporters revelled in the bowling genius of young Ngidi.
