ISLAMABAD: A resolution against State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Tariq Bajwa was submitted in the Senate on Monday.

The resolution signed by 40 senators seeks the removal of Bajwa from the post. According to the resolution, Bajwa?s was not eligible for the post as per SBP rules and his appointment is not in line with the law.

On July 7, the federal government had appointed former bureaucrat Tariq Bajwa as the new governor of the State Bank.

The seat had fallen vacant in April this year when Ashraf Mehmood Wathra completed his three-year term as the SBP governor.

Bajwa retired last month as the finance secretary
