Apple Discontinues The iPod Nano And iPod Shuffle

We must all gather for a very sad day in the lives of every music enthusiast and audiophile as Apple has officially decided to discontinue the iPad Nano and iPod shuffle. Apple updated their iPod lineup on Thursday and the company has decided to discontinue the last two iPods that did not run the company's iOS software like the iPhone and the iPad.

"Today, we are simplifying our iPod lineup with two models of iPod touch now with double the capacity starting at just $199 and we are discontinuing the iPod shuffle and iPod nano," an Apple said in a statement.

However, Apple has reduced the price of the iPod touch and it now comes with a minimum of 32 GB of storage and has a higher model with 128 GB of storage space.

© Apple

The iPod shuffle and nano essentially played only music and did not function like any other Apple products. In fact, the two types of music playing devices had not been updated since its launch in 2005.

Ever since the launch of the iPhone and other smartphones with in-built music players, the mere existence of a mp3 player became redundant.

The original iPod is probably one of the most special devices made by Apple as it paved the way for the iPhone and was also the company's first consumer product besides their computers. In fact, in the early days of the development of the iPhone, it was referred to internally as the iPod phone.

© Apple

The reason why Apple may be phasing out the iPod is simply because they are not compatible with the AirPods. Apple has also invested a great deal of money into Apple Music which is also not supported by the two discontinued iPod models.

Regardless of what may be the reasons behind the iPod's demise, it is an end of an era as Apple will no longer be selling any form of the traditional music players.
